  1. Today, we’re hearing of another new opening coming soon to Disney Springs. Scott Joseph’s Orlando Restaurant Guide is reporting that George Miliotes is slated to open a wine bar in the near future at the shopping and entertainment district. According to Joseph, Wine Bar George is the working name of the new spot, which is currently planned for a location just across from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar. This wine bar would join other niche shops along this new stretch, which include Joffrey’s Tea Traders Cafe, Vivoli Il Gelato, and the recently-opened Ganachery. The project is still in the development stage, so the opening date is still up in the air. However, it is clear that the wine bar will be an independent business, rather than a Disney-sponsored spot. We Can’t Wait to Check Out This Brand New Wine Bar! Miliotes, together with Chef Clifford Pleau, helped to put Disney’s California Grill on the culinary map. The two were at the restaurant’s helm when it opened in 1995, and they helped to make it a destination to locals as well as guests vacationing at the Walt Disney World Resort. In 2002, Miliotes and Pleau departed Disney to work for a local restaurant group. Miliotes is one of only 3 certified Master Sommeliers in the Central Florida area. Currently, he conducts wine education classes locally for others who are seeking sommelier certification, and wine education promises to be a unique aspect of the new venue. As information continues to develop about this newly-announced spot, we will keep you posted! But now, let’s hear from all of you. Will you welcome the addition of a wine bar to Disney Springs? 2. Nestled in the imposing shadow of Mt. Everest, Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks is the perfect place for tired and hungry travelers to stop in for a quick bite to eat or a refreshing beverage. For climbers who are returning from their ascent, a stop at the bar is considered tradition. The Trek Snacks menu varies throughout the day, with delicious pastries in the morning and more substantial bites like sushi and sandwiches in the afternoon and evening. Pastries include assorted muffins and Danish, croissants and an indulgent chocolate twist. Healthful snacks like fresh fruit, crudité and hummus, edamame and an Asian noodle salad are available. The Smoked Turkey Sandwich, Bahn Mi (roasted pork topped with pickled vegetables, cilantro and sriracha dressing), Som Tam (Thai shrimp, green papaya salad, crushed peanuts and chilis) and sushi are a perfect meal for the weary traveler. For dessert, cookies, brownies and ice cream treats (including the popular Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar) are on the menu. GalleryThirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park view allAt Thirsty River Bar, look for specialty cocktails such as the Khumbu Icefall (guava rum blended with coconut and raspberry puree), Himalayan Ghost (Snow Leopard vodka, guava, and Odwalla lemonade) and the Durbar Margarita. Non-alcoholic drinks are also available, like the Flying Yak (mango puree blended with coconut water and pineapple juice) and the Pink Lotus (strawberry puree, lychee and Odwalla lemonade). The bar represents the kind of cultural collision that has become of hallmark of the villages that serve as base camps for Everest trekkers. Originally the home for a popular Sherpa family, mementos have been tacked on the walls by travelers, but the rest of the décor is sparse and functional aside from the stable tack. 3. Is it the costumes? The aroma of gingerbread and cocoa? It’s probably that the Voices of Liberty just know how to combine beautiful harmonies. And when they perform their holiday songbook, I can’t help but feel a little more merry. Here is the eight-part harmony, a cappella group performing a combination of carols, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” with “Angels We Have Heard on High.” You can enjoy the Voices of Liberty at the American Adventure Pavilion in Epcot. What songs would you like to hear them sing? Hark! 4. Every family has their holiday traditions. In my family they all seem to center around baking, sweets and the regret that comes from so much baking and so many sweets. But, regardless of what traditions your family holds dear, I’m betting the most important part is spending quality time with the ones you love. And in 2016 I can’t think of any better way to spend that time together, all while getting into the holiday spirit, than by taking a European holiday getaway on an Adventures by Disney Danube River Cruise. There are few things, if any, more charming than Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary in the winter. Adorable towns and cities decked out in holiday décor, Christmas markets brimming with mulled wine and one-of-a-kind crafts, twinkling lights and, if you’re lucky, even a light dusting a glistening snow. And with Adventures by Disney you can warm up with a hot cup of cocoa onboard an equally charming river cruise ship as you cruise past Budapest spectacularly illuminated, celebrate a holiday luncheon in Vienna and more. Oh, and did I mention that it’s all completely stress free? How often can you say that about the holidays? With Adventures by Disney, you can rest easy knowing that every detail is planned for you. Need more convincing? Check out just a few of our top reasons why this vacation is an ideal getaway for your family. 8. Today’s Moms Panel Monday shares different Moms’ Views on planning a large family vacation. Lauren from England asked the Disney Parks Moms Panel about traveling with 12 family members of all ages to Walt Disney World Resort in May. She wants to make sure everyone in the family has a magical vacation. Our Moms Panelists to the rescue! A dozen Panelists stepped up with some really unique and fun ideas for the entire family. Moms Panelist Brenda suggests experiencing the live entertainment offerings so the whole family can have fun together, like Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot and Enchanted Tales with Belle at Magic Kingdom Park. Susan suggests attractions that are top picks for her family including Festival of The Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Living with the Land at Epcot. Panelist Andrea shares some “off the beaten path” ideas like exploring Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom Park or becoming a Wilderness Explorer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. And Moms Panelist Whitney made me laugh with her advice based on her own large family gathering experience in the parks. You can find this question with the all the panelist’s answers as well as other helpful questions and answers on the Moms’ Views section of the Disney Parks Moms Panel. 9. Though we still have a week or so left, it’s definitely safe to say that 2015 has been another big year for the ever-popular Be Our Guest Restaurant in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Learn About: Be Our Guest Restaurant -- LunchMagic Kingdom Disney World RestaurantsLooking back over the past year… February brought the announcement that lunch at Be Our Guest was ending its FastPass+ test for Disney Resort guests and opening up Advance Dining Reservations to anyone who wished to dine there. In March, we received word that breakfast would be coming to this spot that had only previously offered lunch and dinner. It was also announced that Advance Dining Reservations would be accepted for this new meal as well, even though — like lunch — breakfast is considered a Counter Service meal. In the weeks and months to follow came a flurry of Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs) made by guests focused on their Disney World vacation plans. Perhaps you have even made one in the time since, which might mean that you may be — at this very moment — getting ready to depart shortly for your Disney World vacation! (LUCKY YOU!!) Be Our Guest Restaurant sign If your dining time is for breakfast or lunch at Be Our Guest you have the option to pre-order your meal within 30 days of your reservation, and today we’re going to look at how that process works. (The pre-order process does not apply to dinner at Be Our Guest, which, as always, is considered a Table Service meal.) The pre-ordering process is not new to Be Our Guest Restaurant. When lunch was available specifically to Disney World Resort guests via FastPass+ testing, participating guests were presented with the option to pre-order their meals. Though the FastPass+ days are long behind us for Be Our Guest Restaurant, everyone with a My Disney Experience account — which you can create through the Walt Disney World website — now has the ability to pre-order their meal within 30 days of their dining reservation (not to be confused with the 180-window in which you can actually make your Advance Dining Reservation). My Disney Experience page on the WDW website If you’re wondering where to begin the pre-order process… well, that depends on when you make your reservation. If you book your meal within the 30-day pre-ordering window, you will immediately see a link to “Place Your Order” in the confirmation window that pops up after you make your reservation, and a link will also arrive in your confirmation e-mail. However, for those who booked a reservation outside of the 30-day pre-order window (a wise decision, considering how quickly things still book up here), you can log into the My Disney Experience site once you are within the 30-day window. If you are not yet within the 30 days, you’ll see a note letting you know the date that window opens for you, as in the example below. Screenshot: Reservation details in My Disney Experience outside of 30 days By the way, let’s say you made your Advance Dining Reservation via phone by calling (407) WDW-DINE, and do not have a My Disney Experience account. No worries — you can link the reservation confirmation number you received to your account even if you create it after making your reservation. Once you are inside the 30 Day window of your reservation, you’ll find an updated link to “Place Your Order” on the right within your reservation details. Screenshot: Reservation details in My Disney Experience within 30 days I went through this process via my computer, but you can also enter into the process through the My Disney Experience app on your smartphone or tablet by selecting “My Reservations” and choosing your Be Our Guest breakfast or lunch reservation. From here, the process is clear and very user-friendly, but I’d still like to walk you through so you can know what to expect when your 30-day window for pre-order arrives. While the general steps are the same for both breakfast and lunch, we’ll be looking at a lunch reservation today. The first window to open after selecting “Place Your Order” provides a lot of great info, including the fact that you do NOT have to pre-order your meals if you prefer not to; ordering kiosks will still be available upon your arrival. You can also make changes to your selections any time before your arrival. Third, if you cancel your order for any reason, it will not affect your standing reservation. Screenshot: Beginning the Pre-order Process From here, you can click the green “Start Order” button to get going! Immediately you’ll see the first screen of the menu. (Fret not! The Braised Pork Coq au Vin Style is still available, as you’ll see later in the post; I was just limited to what displayed on my screen for this particular screenshot.) Screenshot: Beginning the Pre-order process Before we go into ordering — and viewing the rest of the menu — I’d like to point out a few features that may be of interest. In the upper-right corner you’ll see some expansion options, including “Have a Dining Plan?” Expansion options on upper right If you click it, you’ll find the standard Disney Dining Plan info, reminding you of your entitlements through the program. Dining Plan Entitlements Also on the upper left, you’ll see an “Allergy-Friendly menu” expansion option, which is there for dietary needs. When you expand this, you can select to display only items made without your choice of the following: corn, eggs, fish, milk, peanut, shellfish, soy, tree nut, or wheat. Dietary Preferences Now on to the food! I only showed you one portion of the menu above, but it actually took several screen shots for me to include each section, from soups, entrees, and beverages to desserts and Kids Meals. Screenshot: Be Our Guest Soups for Lunch French Onion Soup Screenshot: Be Our Guest Entrees for Lunch Braised Pork Screenshot: Be Our Guest Beverages for Lunch Screenshot: Be Our Guest Desserts for Lunch Master’s Cupcake Screenshot: Be Our Guest Kids’ Meals Though you’ll see descriptions under most items, when you click the “Plus” (+) sign by the item name, you may also get a picture, as seen here for the Tuna Nicoise Salad. Screenshot: Tuna Nicoise Salad description and customization options Additionally, limited customization may be an option. With the Tuna Nicoise Salad, you may choose to deselect the poached eggs on your salad, and choose if you would like your dressing on the side or tossed in with your entree. This little window is also where you click “Add to Order” to… well, to add it to your order . Once you do, the item appears in your Order Summary on the right hand of the screen. BAM! Screenshot: Order Summary Further options for customization, of course, depend on the item you select. For instance, when you choose to view more information about the Carved Prime Chuck Roast Beef Sandwich, you’ll find you can choose your preferred side item (French Fries or Green Bean Jardiniere) as well as opt out of the horseradish sauce or the veggie toppers. Screenshot: Carved Prime Chuck Roast Beef Sandwich description and customization options There is no special section to enter additional notes, however. So if you’re in need of further customization, it may be best to wait until your arrival day and speak with a Cast Member prior to placing your order at the restaurant. Of course, after perusing the menu a bit more, you may change your mind, and that’s totally fine. Just hit the “X” next to the item in the Order Summary as seen above, and confirm that you would indeed like to remove the item. Removing an item Then just have at it again until you’re pleased with your order! Ultimately, I went with my personal list of “Be Our Guest’s Greatest Lunch Hits”: Braised Pork, and The Master’s Cupcake (that’s the one topped with the Grey Stuff) for my dessert. And also a soda, ‘cuz self-serve refills are unlimited at Be Our Guest . Screenshot: Order Summary The total for the selections also shows up in the Order Summary, but you will not pay for your items until the day you dine (at that time, you would also clarify if you are using the Disney Dining Plan, and your credits will be adjusted accordingly). Upon viewing your Order Summary, you can review your order as well, which leads to this screen: Screenshot: Final Order Summary for Review And, finally, at the bottom right of the screen, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for… you’ll see green “Place Order” button. Screenshot: Place Your Order! Once you click it, CONGRATULATIONS! That’s a wrap! You have successfully sent your order to Be Our Guest Restaurant. Screenshot: Thanks for your order! Again, please note that you can change your order at any time before your arrival, so no worries if you have any second thoughts about what you want. After all, in the words of Lumiere, they “only live to serve” at Be Our Guest Restaurant! Now the only thing you have to do just happens to be the most difficult thing when it comes to ANY part of your Disney World vacation… WAIT for it to begin. Here’s hoping that pre-ordering your group’s breakfast or lunch for Be Our Guest will add a little more fun to the countdown! Do you like having the option of pre-ordering for a Counter Service meal? 11. Whether you are a social media shutterbug, crafty scrapbooker or the photog of the family, no Disney vacation is complete without plenty of pictures documenting your adventures! To help make the most of your theme park snapping, we’ve asked our talented Disneyland Chief Photographer Paul Hiffmeyer to dish out his best tips for capturing magical moments at the Disneyland Resort. Consider these helpful hints next time you are making memories in the parks: New View of Sleeping Beauty Castle When you’re photographing people, bring them closer to the camera. For instance, positioning them on the walkway of Sleeping Beauty Castle automatically brings them closer to you.Try shooting Sleeping Beauty Castle from a different angle, such as to the right or left of the forecourt walkway.Since Sleeping Beauty Castle is centrally located, come back at different times of the day to test different lighting conditions. Capturing the Beauty of Cars Land The best place to capture the scenery of the mountain range at Radiator Springs Racers is on the pathway next to Flo’s V8 Café, heading toward the arch by Pacific Wharf. For a new perspective of Route 66, try shooting from the steps of the Blue Sky Cellar. Ideal Lighting in the Parks Try to avoid taking photos of people when the sun is straight above you, as it casts shadows on their faces. This is a better time to take photos of the attractions and icons. If it is very bright outside, use the HDR setting on your phone’s camera to enhance the exposure. Some of Paul’s Favorite Shots Paul’s favorite group photo location is at the steps of Paradise Park (“World of Color” viewing area) with Mickey’s Fun Wheel in the background. He says that Cars Land makes a great photo subject any time of the day – especially at night because of how many interesting things there are to photograph, such as the vibrant neon lights and orange glow of the mountains.Memorable Disney Character Interactions Be sure to capture the interactions between a child and the Disney Character before taking the posed photo. There’s nothing quiet about this zippy drink, which combines 8 Year Demerara Rum, Anise Liqueur, Vanilla, and Ginger Beer. But Shannon went for the Red-Nosed Zebra. Red-Nosed Zebra After all, how can you go wrong with Aged Rum, Strawberry Puree, and Lemon and Lime Juices?? Sounds a little Kungaloosh-style in spirit to me! I’m thinking any and all of the fun drinks would go well with some of the amazing dishes at Trader Sam’s. Ahhhhhh — now I’m dreaming of a Tropical Snowstorm and a Pu Pu Platter! And how’s this for national spotlight: SportsCenter was broadcasting live from ESPN Wide World of Sports on Friday, December 11. NFL analyst Herm Edwards joined hosts Chris McKendry and Jay Crawford to discuss the biggest headlines in sports amidst the Division II Pee Wee Championship Game. More than 70 percent of today’s NFL players went through Pop Warner Little Scholars. And some of them culminated their youth careers hoisting the championship trophy at our house, just as many athletes did last weekend. What will these kids do next?
