As you may be aware, we are huge fans of the Cove Bar at Disney’s California Adventure. Offering amazing views of Paradise Pier, above par pub grub (hello, Lobster Nachos!), and terrific — even secret — cocktails, it’s got it all. View from Cove Bar Of course, we aren’t the only fans of this beautiful bar, as evidenced by the often-encountered lengthy wait times for a seat. Full Bar Seating at Cove Bar So we were excited to read in the ocregister that the Cove Bar is being expanded! No word yet on a completion date, or if any new food or drinks will be added to the menu along with the expansion. But more seating will definitely be welcome. Fun Wheel Overlooking Paradise Pier After all, it will allow that many more people to put a visit to the Cove Bar on their Disney Food Bucket List! Oh, and if it’s on YOUR list, be sure to ask for a Fun Wheel… Source: ocregister Is the Cove Bar one of your favorite spots in Disneyland Resort? Please let us know with a comment! Last night, hundreds of Disney Parks Blog readers gathered at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure park to celebrate “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular”. The panel discussion included Shelby Jiggetts-Tivony, creative executive with Walt Disney Imagineering, who oversaw the creation of the show; David Carriero, stage manager; and performers Jim Gruessing (Genie), Billy Kametz (Aladdin) and Cassie Murphy (Jasmine). We first met Princess Tiana in the 2009 release, “The Princess & The Frog”. First an ambitious and hardworking waitress who dreams of opening her own restaurant, Tiana’s dream is detoured when her kind heart leads her to help a Frog Prince (Prince Naveen) turn back into a human by kissing him – only to have her kiss turn her into a frog also. Tiana and Prince Naveen then go on a journey to find someone who can help them become human again, and along the way, she finds the strength to resist Dr. Facilier’s “deal” and also learns what’s most important in life – love. One year ago this month, we were … of course … celebrating the holiday season at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts! We also explored our history as we marked momentous milestones. Take a look back at some of the stories we shared with you in December 2014. Today in Disney History: Walt Disney Was Born in 1901 In honor of Walt Disney’s birthday, Jennifer shared this look back at the official announcement of Walt Disney World Resort. Building the Dream: The Making of Disneyland Park – Main Street Station Part of his “Building the Dream” series, commemorating the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, George showed us these images from the construction of the Main Street Station at Disneyland park. Watch Holiday Services Install & Unveil The Magic Kingdom Park Christmas Tree Jennifer showed us this amazing video, in which the Holiday Services department installs the massive Magic Kingdom Park Christmas tree overnight. Vintage Walt Disney World: Disney Carolers Nate shared this fun image of Disney Afternoon characters celebrating the holidays way back in 1990. Kermit Gets into the Holiday Spirit at Disneyland Park Even the Muppets were getting into the holiday spirit! Check out this video of Kermit the Frog at Disneyland park. I love celebrating holidays and special occasions because it gives me an opportunity to let family and friends know how special they are. Sometimes it’s the coveted gift that lights up loved ones. For others, it’s articulating what makes them so special through a note or card. Here are two ways to share your heartfelt sentiments at home and at Disney Parks. For the next holiday meal you host, consider sharing your sentiments through the place card above. On one side of this “gift”, write your guest’s name, on the other side, note what makes them special to you. Once all are seated at the table, let them know of your surprise message. For some, this “gift” will become a treasure … one they may keep to read again in the future. To help you get started, just print the card and you’re off to create a special memory. For family coming to Walt Disney World or Disneyland, your family and friends can help you create a similar surprise for your loved ones through our new Disney Magical Memories program. Here’s how it works: Let’s say your family is coming to Disney for a holiday visit or special occasion and you want to create an over-the-top Disney surprise for them. Begin by ordering some holiday gifts from our website for delivery to your resort room. At the end of your order, you’ll be asked if you’d like to invite family and friends to create a surprise for your loved one(s) through a free note that will be included in an exclusive Disney card and delivered to your resort room along with your gift. They will receive one card, but it can include numerous notes from grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. surprising them with a free special message. Oh and by the way, the card is an exclusive piece illustrated by Disney artist Charles Wissig. To learn more about this offer at Walt Disney World, visit our Disney Floral and Gifts website or call a friendly Dream Maker at 407-WDW-GIFT (939-4438)! For Disneyland, you can visit this Disney Floral and Gifts link or call 714-781-GIFT (4438). Today, for our continuing #DisneyKids series, I want you to meet an adorable little princess named Giselle. Giselle loves coming to Walt Disney World Resort, especially if it means she can wear one of her Disney Princess dresses or even other costumes like Tinker Bell from “Peter Pan,” or Russell from “Up.” Giselle’s magical Disney Parks experiences began last year when she made her first visit at the age of 4, wearing a dress that her mom, Kristina, made for the occasion. According to Kristina, Giselle, who has Down Syndrome, comes alive with happiness when interacting with Disney characters – creating moments that Kristina loves capturing on camera. Each time they plan a return visit to Walt Disney World Resort, Kristina creates new costumes for photos and fun. Kristina eventually posted a few photos online and the popularity of the images grew so much that Giselle’s Walt Disney World Resort photos became an internet sensation. These days, you can Giselle’s latest magical adventure on Facebook at “Giselle’s Garden.” Here’s a video from Giselle’s most recent visit when the family visited some favorite characters, including Merida from Disney•Pixar’s “Brave,” Anna and Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen,” and, of course, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. #DisneyKids: Meet Disney Superfan Giselle from Giselle’s Garden by Michelle Baumann: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

One of my favorite parts of this time of year is seeing all of the Gingerbread House Displays at the Disney World Resort Hotels! Better yet, I love spying all of the new festive sweets available at the displays. And this year, The Boardwalk Inn is hosting not only an updated display, but a few new treats as well… . For the past few years, the BoardWalk Inn has returned to celebrating its turn-of-the-century Atlantic seashore theme with its gingerbread display. Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe For 2015, the simultaneous display and shop (a la the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House) has been reimagined as Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe. Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe Sign The cut outs for picture poses surrounding the display are all Christmas themed, and look like something right on the Jersey Shore boardwalk! Display at Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe Display at Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe Like the other Gingerbread Displays, Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shoppe has plenty of holiday treats for sale. Gingerbread Cookies (Shingles and Mickey versions) are available alongside various Sugar Cookies. Gingerbread Cookies Sugar Cookies At just about every display you’ll find full loaves of Stollen — a traditional German fruit bread covered in sugar. Stollen Bread I think the bags of Caramel Popcorn go really well with the seashore boardwalk theme; you’ll find them next to the Peppermint Bark. Caramel Popcorn and Peppermint Bark Now here is the surprise… they have a selection of holiday-themed Gelato this year! Candy Cane and Gingerbread Gelato are your choices. It’s a pretty fun find; something a little different with some coolness during the not-so-winter Florida temperatures! Gelato Flavors You can’t smell all that gingerbread from the displays and not want to try something made with those festive spices, so I tried the Gingerbread Gelato first. Gingerbread Gelato They are in convenient grab-and-go containers, but the serving sizes aren’t very big (and note that, unlike many of the singular snacks, the Gelato is not available as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan). Gingerbread Gelato Label The texture of Disney World gelato is typically spot on… and here it’s no different . The gelato is soft and sweet. You can easily see all the cinnamon and nutmeg mixed throughout, and it really makes the flavors pop. Close Up Of The Gingerbread Gelato The Candy Cane Gelato is, first of all, wonderfully pretty to look at. Candy Cane lovers will be thrilled to see the amount of crushed candy on top! The gelato itself is also peppermint-flavored, so you have that great taste throughout. Candy Cane Gelato Between the peppermint gelato and all of that candy cane, I was really surprised to discover that the flavor wasn’t too overwhelming. It was actually very enjoyable, and a really refreshing holiday option. Before we go, I’d also like to share some of the other Christmas decorations you’ll find around BoardWalk Inn. It ain’t all gingerbread around these parts . Make sure you take time to check out all the beautifully-themed Resort trees during your own personal Gingerbread Display Tour! BoardWalk Indoor Christmas Trees The gorgeous garlands weighted down with hundreds of vintage ornaments are some of my favorite decorations in all of Walt Disney World. On a recent visit to Disney California Adventure park, I made a quick trip over to Refreshment Point located just outside of Humphrey’s Service & Supplies in Grizzly Peak Airfield. This quick stop started with an attempt to quench my thirst at our mix-and-match Coca-Cola Freestyle machines – which include your choice of more than 70 different soft drink options – and became something much more. New to the area – and definitely the essential item for any day trip or extended camp out – are the new Grizzly Peak Airfield canteens. Not only is it perfectly themed to the area, but it is definitely a great way to take your drink on the go. If you’re like me, I constantly struggle to finish my drink before hopping onto one of our beloved attractions. Now, I can fill it up and with a simple twist of the lid, secure it tight for the trip, no matter where it takes me. The new canteen is only $12.99, plus tax, and includes your choice of soft drink at the time of purchase. So the next time you’re at Refreshment Point, fill up your tank – or canteen in this case – and set your course for adventure. What do you get when you mix running with Disney? Running through our incredible theme parks, world-class entertainment and, of course, characters! In fact, many participants transform into the themes of our weekends and channel their favorite Disney characters while creating their costumes. With the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna right around the corner, I’ve collected pictures from last year’s event that really showcase the spirit of the weekend. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the only race weekend that has a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. Within these four races there are also two challenges: the Goofy Challenge and the Dopey Challenge. Wondering what that means? Keep reading! The Walt Disney World 5K is perfect for the whole family. The 5K theme is Pluto, and last year, runners really embraced their Pluto style! Minnie Mouse is the star of the Walt Disney World 10K, which is a great distance for runners of all skill levels. The Walt Disney World Half Marathon’s amazing 13.1 mile course is a runner’s delight, taking you through the magic, wonder, and sheer charm of Magic Kingdom Park, then on to Epcot, home of international World Showcase and Future World. The race concludes with a spectacular finish in the shadow of Spaceship Earth. The Walt Disney World Marathon is an adventure! Being the only course that takes you through the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the only true owner of this race has to be Mickey Mouse! There are two challenges within Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. First, if you are “Goofy” enough to run the half marathon and marathon back-to-back, you will have successfully completed Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge. That’s 39.3 miles in two days! The ultimate (and Dopiest!) challenge of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is the Dopey Challenge! The Dopey Challenge is 48.6 miles in four days. That is participating in all four races: the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon. In addition to the finisher medals, participants also receive the Goofy Challenge and Dopey Challenge medals upon completion of all four races within the pacing requirements. Whichever distance you chose, Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend has something for everyone. For more information on upcoming races visit runDisney.com. Participating in the upcoming races? What marvelous new merchandise is debuting at the Disneyland Resort? Here’s your first look at some exciting new offerings themed to some favorite super heroes. I admit I’m the first to get caught in the web of having to try this new apple. I think it’s safe to say you know who I’m talking about. So how did they do it? Magic, of course, along with super hero powers. This new apple has been dipped in rich caramel, covered in red sanding sugar and minutely detailed with chocolate to create the look of the mask. It can be found at Candy Palace and Hunny Spot in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District. Don’t despair, East-coast crime fighters – Goofy’s Candy Company and Candy Cauldron in Disney Springs will be offering it soon as well. What else? I’m glad you asked! If you haven’t had the chance to visit Super Hero HQ in Tomorrowland at Disneyland park to see all of the amazing new offerings, here’s one more reason to check it out! D-Tech on Demand recently expanded to both merchandise locations within the Tomorrowland Expo Center. What does that mean? When you visit Super Hero HQ, you can create your very own D-Tech on Demand case for any of the following devices – iPhone® 4/4S, iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6/6+ as well as Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy 4, Samsung Galaxy 5 and Samsung Galaxy 6. Once you have the perfect fit, select your favorite piece of art from 70 new themed designs featuring some of the characters that have assembled here. In approximately 10–15 minutes from start to finish, you’ll be ready to go! You can even personalize your phone case with your name! I know which one I have my eye on. I’m curious to know which super hero you’ll choose. Apple and Samsung are third party products and are not affiliated with this offer.
