  1. As part of the multi-year expansion of the Disneyland Resort, we are upgrading, improving and adding new parking and transportation enhancements that have been long envisioned for the resort. The centerpiece of this plan is an all-new parking structure to be built on the current Pinocchio surface parking lot next to Mickey & Friends. This new 6,500-space structure is designed to dramatically improve parking and traffic flow throughout the resort. It is expected to significantly speed up guest arrival by providing a 60 percent increase in the number of access lanes and adding additional parking capacity on the west side of the resort. The additional parking capacity and access lanes will streamline vehicle arrivals on the west side of the resort and eliminate backups onto city streets. In addition, the tram boarding area will be reconfigured to enhance the transportation experience for guests parking at both the new structure and Mickey & Friends. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2018, with the structure set to open the following year. View the full article
  2. We have some exciting news to share with you today about continuing expansion and growth of the Disneyland Resort. For the first time in almost two decades, we will open a new Four Diamond hotel! Set to open in 2021, this hotel will transform the west end of the Downtown Disney District and anchor a new gateway to the Disneyland Resort. The stunning 700-room hotel will feature a sophisticated design and be a game-changer for Anaheim, creating a dynamic dining, entertainment and hotel experience for resort visitors and local residents. Extensive landscaping and water elements will create a resort oasis, showcasing nature on every level of the hotel. The hotel’s location embraces the iconic Disneyland Monorail with a dedicated platform inside the hotel for direct transport into Disneyland park. Guest rooms, public spaces and gardens will provide views of the Downtown Disney District. In addition, an upper-level restaurant and lounge will give guests a view of the popular Disneyland park fireworks. The ground level of the hotel will include shops and restaurants opening onto an expansive landscaped plaza complete with playful water features, creating a gathering place for guests and visitors. The new hotel also connects all four Hotels of the Disneyland Resort through lush gardens and beautifully landscaped walkways, transforming the gateway on the west side and creating a welcoming entry for our Disneyland Resort guests. And that’s not all. This new hotel creates great benefits for the community, generating approximately $25 million in new taxes in its first five years of operation that go directly to Anaheim’s general fund. It also will create thousands of additional construction and permanent jobs and attract new hotel guests to the resort area. Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2018, with a grand opening slated for 2021. Check back here for updates! View the full article

  17. Whether it’s dreaming up the magic or rehearsing intricate musical numbers, it takes a whole lot of pixie dust to bring an elaborate production from concept to reality on the high seas! Once the show is ready to set sail, the scenery, costumes and props are loaded onto the ship and installed in the Walt Disney Theatre. Fitting magical flying carpets, life-size horses and entire ice palaces inside a cruise ship is no easy feat. While the installation takes place, the cast polishes performances in final rehearsals – for the first time on the actual theater stage. Technical elements such as music, lighting and special effects are layered in during this time as well. From the snow flurries of “Frozen,” to the enchanted objects of “Beauty and the Beast,” to the spellbinding floating lanterns in “Tangled,” guests can step into the magic and become a part of these treasured stories. Then, it’s show time! At the end of a long journey of hard work, preparation and pixie dust, the curtain rises at the Walt Disney Theatre to bring beloved Disney stories and original productions to life exclusively for you! These dazzling spectacles are a beautiful blend of theater craft, technology and old-fashioned storytelling that deliver captivating and heartfelt entertainment like only Disney can do. Right now, the cast of our newest production, “Beauty and the Beast,” are onboard the Disney Dream getting ready debut the show. The musical premieres during the Disney Dream voyage departing Nov. 6, 2017, joining an incredible lineup of Broadway-style stage productions aboard the ship, including “The Golden Mickeys” and “Disney’s Believe.” Once again, we’re bringing you entertainment like only Disney can do. I hope you enjoyed this look at how we take an idea from script to stage, and I’ll see you in the front row of the Walt Disney Theatre! View the full article

  21. Today we’re happy to share a look at a new area planned for Toy Story Land we haven’t unveiled until now – Woody’s Lunch Box. When Toy Story Land opens in Summer 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will shrink to the size of a toy and explore all of the fun (and toys!) Andy has constructed in his backyard. This story continues at Woody’s Lunch Box, where Andy has used his lunch box and thermos to create a walk-up quick-service window that will serve up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats. In the rendering above, you can see that Woody’s Lunch Box – like the rest of Toy Story Land – has been adorably strewn about with some of Andy’s favorite toys and items from his lunch. You can even spot a green army man on a nearby lookout tower, keeping watch for Andy’s return. The Walt Disney World Resort will partner with Mini Babybel to bring this location to life. Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more information on Woody’s Lunch Box – and the menu of delicious items it will serve up – in the coming months. 23. If you follow our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers on her Instagram, you know she’s got a bit of a thing for the Haunted Mansion. (And hey, don’t we all ? ) Well, lucky for us, Heather’s friends and family treated her right for her recent birthday by ordering a totally epic specialty cake for her birthday dinner at Napa Rose at the Grand Californian Resort in Disneyland. It’s the Haunted Mansion-themed cake, and It. Is. EVERYTHING. Haunted Mansion Cake Let’s just break this thing down for a minute. First is the perfectly eerie purple frosting with black Haunted Mansion wallpaper accents and Haunted Mansion-approved script, written by some of the greatest ghost writers the literary world has ever known, I presume… Haunted Mansion Cake The sides of the cake? They mimic the wallpaper that’s the very quintessence of Haunted Mansion decor. And look at the roses! So much detail in those petals and leaves. Haunted Mansion Wallpaper Sides But the decorations on top completely take the cake, as they say… they’re two White Chocolate HITCHHIKING GHOSTS and the HATBOX GHOST, all bursting through the Mansion gates to wish Heather a Happy Birthday while she’s here in her corruptible, mortal state. Hatbox Ghost The ghostly blue paint job that gives the ghosts their spectral quality is pretty amazing. Hitchhiking Ghosts But we’ve kind of saved the best for last because this cake… my friends, it’s DOLE WHIP flavored! Pineapple cake is layered with pineapple cream, and it is mind-blowing. Inside the Haunted Mansion Cake So, remember, if you need to order a specialty cake from Napa Rose, they can totally hook you up BIG TIME! 25. After seeing the most recent trailer, I know I’m not the only one excited for the release of Disney•Pixar’s “Coco.” While the film will debut on the big screen November 22, Disney Springs guests can celebrate early with a family-friendly fiesta that will take place at Disney Springs West Side from October 27 through November 26, 2017. In the film, aspiring musician Miguel teams up with charming trickster Héctor on an extraordinary journey through the Land of the Dead. At Disney Springs, guests will get a taste of the bright and vibrant world of “Coco” through a medley of themed music, food, and décor daily from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. With a flurry of colorful papel picados planned and décor depicting scenes from the movie, Exposition Park will be a lively cornucopia of family-friendly fun. On weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), there will also be face-painting and activities for kids. Hungry for more? Springs’ Street Tacos Food Truck will serve up vanilla flan for a limited time, alongside their signature taco offerings.
