  3. Did you know that the Haunted Mansion’s cemetery queue contains hidden references characters who were created for the attraction, but cut before the final version? That’s the topic our Imagineers look into in today’s celebration of the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park. One such character guests can spot as they travel through the queue is a mysterious one-eyed cat, who was intended to appear in the attraction and would’ve been a figure the Ghost Host would warn you about as you traveled through the mansion. Another is Sea Captain Culpepper Clyne, whose tomb you can find inside the cemetery, is a nod to an affect and a character originally created for the attraction by Disney Legends Rolly Crump and Yale Gracey years ago. In that version of the attraction, guests would encounter a sea captain just before a spooky ghost would materialize nearby. Both the one-eyed cat and Sea Captain Culpepper Clyne were cut before the final version of the attraction took shape. Check out the video above, in which Imagineers Steve Vagnini and Daniel Joseph share all the details! View the full article

  5. Luis Fonsi is not your typical papa, and he proved it when he visited Walt Disney World Resort last week with his family. The Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, best known for his worldwide hit song “Despacito,” celebrated Halloween Disney style by dressing up as Captain Hook during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park. Luis’ wife Agueda dressed up as Wendy, daughter Mikaela as Tinker Bell and his son Rocco was Peter Pan! Aren’t they adorable? Before the party started, they met Tinker Bell. They then changed into their costumes to meet the inspiration for Luis’ costume, Captain Hook! Followed by plenty of trick-or-treating at Not-So-Scary! Let’s take a look at Luis’ visit! You can see the Spanish version aquí. Recuerda, for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party nights, partygoers of all ages can dress in costume (guidelines here) and trick-or-treat throughout the park. The event requires a separate ticket that can be purchased here and is available on select dates through November 1st. Who are you dressing up as for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party? 6. Having been a Disney fan long before I was a cast member, visiting with a Disney filmmaker makes me feel like I’m walking among giants. Doing so with a filmmaker I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing for nearly two decades makes me feel like I’m catching up with an old friend. That was the case during a recent visit to Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California, where I sat down with “Ralph Breaks the Internet” producer Clark Spencer, an Oscar® winner I first met during the production of “Lilo & Stich” at the former Disney Feature Animation Florida studio at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In the years since, my interviews with Clark have chronicled his work on such films as “Bolt,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Zootopia” – each time deepening my appreciation for this fascinating filmmaker. Our latest visit was our first to take place on camera, allowing me to share his insights like never before. We discussed everything from his unconventional career path to the creative challenges his team tackled in moving Ralph and Vanellope out of Litwak’s video arcade and into the uncharted world of the Internet. In this first clip, Clark recalls his years of filmmaking in Florida and explains how lunch breaks in a Walt Disney World Theme Park underscored the purpose of the studio’s work. Look for a new clip from our conversation here on the Disney Parks Blog each Wednesday until “Ralph Breaks the Internet” opens in theaters on Nov. 21. View the full article

Pirates of the Caribbean Spirit Jersey That’s right — it’s a Pirates of the Caribbean Spirit Jersey!! 12. Walt Disney World seriously rocks when it comes to offering a wide variety of dining options, and while we often find ourselves gravitating toward fried delights like classic Chicken Nuggets and carbolicious eats like Sanaa’s Bread Service, we still like to get our veggies in. Occasionally. Okay, really only to justify eating more cupcakes, but I digress. Still, salads have their place, and we know that a lot of our readers enjoy the freshness and healthfulness of a plate of vegetables even when in a World full indulgent options. So we’ve culled our experience and that of our instagram readers for some great table service and counter service salad options that are satisfying and delicious. Thanks to our readers and followers for sharing their favorites! Here we offer the Top Five Table Service Salads at Walt Disney World! Hollywood Brown Derby Cobb Salad — Disney’s Hollywood Studios We’re starting off with the most renowned salad in all the World: the Hollywood Brown Derby Cobb Salad. This salad is an institution at the original Hollywood Brown Derby in California, and the Disney version of the restaurant has captured the original version of the salad perfectly. Cobb Salad at Hollywood Brown Derby The Cobb Salad is a combo of Greens, Turkey Breast, Bacon, Eggs, Tomato, Crumbled Blue Cheese, Avocado, Chives, and Hollywood Brown Derby Dressing. This salad strikes a balance between components that makes it completely satisfying. You’ll find it on both the appetizer and the entree menu; and if you’re dining at the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge, you can get it there, too! Jiko West African Koki Corn — Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge This salad option is a great way to mix it up a bit — because Jiko‘s West African Koki Corn doesn’t sit on a bed of lettuce. Instead, this combination of seasoned, cooked vegetables is served in an open, dry corn husk. The components include Mushrooms, Avocado, Poblano-Tomatillo Purée, and Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. Jiko Sign Jiko’s chefs have a great rapport with vegetarians and vegans, offering them even more options. This makes Jiko a fabulous spot to get a salad or to try another veggie-based dish. Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Fried Chicken Salad — Disney Springs If you seek the delicate balance between indulgent and healthful while you’re vacationing at Walt Disney World, head to Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, where the Fried Chicken Salad happily straddles that line for you. You’ll get a pile of the Chef’s famous fried chicken on top of a massive pile of mixed greens and other veggies! Fried Chicken Chopped Salad This is a filling and light option — even with the chicken — that will help fuel all your shopping fun in Disney Springs! Plaza Restaurant Chicken-Strawberry Salad — Magic Kingdom Plaza Restaurant is located near the hub at Magic Kingdom, and it’s a Disney World classic! We love the eats here — from the Plaza Loaded Fries to the Brisket Mac and Cheese. But if you’re looking for something notably lighter and healthier, the Chicken-Strawberry Salad is perfect for you. This salad combines lots of complimentary flavors, like Fresh Garden Greens, Grilled Chicken Breast, Cucumbers, fresh Strawberries, and Gorgonzola tossed in a White Zinfandel Vinaigrette Dressing. The sweet strawberries and the white zinfandel dressing are the keys to Chicken Strawberry Salad Ask for this one without chicken, and it’s a great option for vegetarians because the other components really carry the salad. Liberty Tree Tavern Colony Salad — Magic Kingdom Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square is one of our favorite table service spots, and the lunch menu features both the All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Patriot’s Platter as well as a la carte options. It’s on that a la carte portion of the menu that you’ll find the satisfying Colony Salad. This salad is comprised of Grilled Chicken, Washington Apples, Sweet Pecans, Applewood-smoked Cheddar, and Dried Cranberries tossed with Field Greens in a Honey-Shallot Vinaigrette. Colony Salad This salad is interesting for its components — including that delicious combination of pecans and apples! Leave off the chicken (or get it on the side to share with a tablemate) for a vegetarian option, and it’s still a delicious choice that won’t have you staging a revolution. Bonus: Boma Buffet — Animal Kingdom Lodge As is often the case with these lists, we couldn’t stop at just five. And in this case, the bonus is a bunch of salads! Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Boma is a buffet with tastes inspired by the countries and cuisines of Africa. And always on the buffet are a bunch of delicious salads. Curried Pasta Salad In addition to traditional salad with house-made dressings, there are also unique options like Lentil and Hearts of Palm Salad; Orange, Olive, and Fennel Salad; and Curried Pasta Salad. It’s not unusual to find half a dozen salad options, with specific salads varying from day to day. Papaya, Avocado, and Grapefruit Salad Yeah, Boma slays the salad game! And the soup game, but that’s for another day. Wanna know all our other Disney Food Recommendations?! The 2018 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, is now available! 21. As we previously shared, Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will join in on the holiday fun this year by dressing up for the holidays with fun new seasonal decor. Today we’re happy to share a first look at what our “Toy Story” friends – Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear – will wear in Toy Story Land this holiday season. Guests visiting during the holidays can expect to see Woody in a holiday vest adorned with a Christmas tree and presents, as well as a candy cane accessory for his holster. Jessie will also trade in her cowgirl vest for a red holiday vest trimmed in a peppermint pattern, while Buzz Lightyear will add a sparkly Santa hat to his out-of-this-world ensemble. Check out the video above for a sneak peek at what our friends’ holiday outfits will look like – and don’t forget to check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your holiday visit for the latest character greeting times and locations. In addition to holiday character greetings, guests visiting Toy Story Land beginning November 8, can enjoy the land’s new holiday decor, including including oversized cranberry-and-popcorn garland, a holiday card “selfie” of “Toy Story” pals, an oversized Hamm sugar cookie, Green Alien ornaments and more. The land’s attractions will also be plussed up for the season with new holiday audio or music: guests will hear sleigh bells ringing on Slinky Dog Dash, while Alien Swirling Saucers will offer two holiday tracks, plus themed lighting.
