Trick or treat! Disneyland Resort is bringing a new event to guests of all ages this Halloween season: Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party at Disney California Adventure park. This separate-ticket party treats guests to multiple new experiences that are fun for the entire family, from the new “World of Color” spectacular – “Villainous!,” to an interactive “Descendants”-inspired dance party, a stage show with Mickey Mouse, and a mysterious Disney villains walk-through experience. Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party will add to the fun of Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort, celebrated from Sept. 6 through Oct. 31, 2019. Highlights of the new separate-ticket event include: “Villainous!” – The new “World of Color” show weaves a Halloween tale about a young girl named Shelley Marie. This twisted tale carries Shelley on an unforgettable journey, exploring the villainous side of Disney characters through fountains, lights, lasers, projections and special effects. “Villainous!” shows that, deep down, there’s a little villain in all of us. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail – Transformed into a wondrous and ethereal world of Disney villains unlike anything seen before, Redwood Creek will be tricked out in a dreamlike environment. This new experience unfolds in a series of scenes, each creating a hauntingly beautiful dream-space of color, sound, light and shadows, as stories emerge from the darkest night to create an enchanting world. Immersive Treat Trails – Enjoy trick-or-treating at the new, wonderfully wicked treat trails throughout the park. Iconic characters such as Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” or even Oogie Boogie himself will surprise and delight. Additional treat trails will feature oversized cauldrons full of treats for all guests to enjoy. DescenDance– A new pulsing party in the Backlot area of Hollywood Land is inspired by the popular “Descendants” franchise from the Disney Channel. As the DescenDance begins, a spell is cast, summoning the greatest dance crew from the Isle of the Lost to throw down and lead everyone in moves that are set to the biggest hit songs from the “Descendants” films. “Frightfully Fun Parade” – The guest-favorite parade is coming to Disney California Adventure park for the first time! The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow starts the procession, followed by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse who lead the cavalcade of characters and many mischievous Disney villains who are ready to stir up some trouble along the parade route. Mickey’s Trick and Treat show – Perfect for young guests, this new, interactive stage production invites kids of all ages to join Mickey Mouse and his pals as they throw a one-of-a-kind Halloween party! Enjoy dancing, not-so-frightening scary-tales, and candy at the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land. Character encounters – Meet beloved Disney characters – and villains, too. We’re often struck by the interesting names Walt Disney World devises for attractions, rides, and restaurants, and we know lots of you are, too. So we’re taking a look at some of the most clever Disney World restaurant names — and why they’re called that! Cinderella Castle ‘Ohana — Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort If you haven’t visited this popular table service restaurant in the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you might think the name comes from Disney’s animated hit Lilo & Stitch, but in truth, the restaurant came first! (Although you can meet Lilo and her ‘dog’ Stitch at breakfast!) And at ‘Ohana, it’s all about family. That’s because ‘ohana means family in Hawaiian! Lilo at ‘Ohana Not only does ‘ohana refer to your immediate family, in a broader sense it means your extended family, your cultural family, and your global family. So at ‘Ohana, your waiter is your cousin, and the family style service echoes the sentiment of togetherness and shared experiences. (Also there’s ‘Ohana Bread Pudding, which we find really brings people together!) ‘Ohana Bread Pudding with Sauce Get the recipe for ‘Ohana Bread Pudding here! Whispering Canyon Cafe — Disney’s Wilderness Lodge You know where we’re going with this one! Whispering Canyon sounds like a peaceful spot to explore in the wild, right? But at Walt Disney World’s Whispering Canyon Cafe, whispering is not on the menu. Though the restaurant’s antics have a bit of a hit-or-miss quality right now (see our dinner review for our take on this), traditionally Whispering Canyon Cafe has been loud, raucous, and full of fun. Ask for ketchup, and you get all.the.ketchup. Someone Asked for Ketchup . . . Turns out irony is not dead — and Whispering Canyon is keeping it alive! From pony races to giant cups of soda, when the antics are on, this restaurant’s name becomes part of the joke! Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ — Disney Springs When Homecomin’ came to Disney Springs, that meant one thing for lots of guests: Fried Chicken. That staple comfort food is a Chef Art Smith specialty, and we knew it would be delicious. Less certain: the restaurant’s name! It started as Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming (with Florida Kitchen Southern Shine tacked onto the end). Here, the Florida Native and James Beard award winning Chef Art was literally coming home to launch this new Florida restaurant. But just over half a year later, the ‘g’ was dropped, an apostrophe added, and Homecomin’ was born. Homecoming Sign — back in the day! The new moniker was a dialectical and tonal change, bringing the name more in line with the restaurant’s overall style and vibe. The laid-back atmosphere and menu full of comfort food mean you can drop your ‘g’s and relax! Beaches & Cream — Yacht and Beach Club Resort Beaches & Cream is a popular, old timey soda shop that specializes in classic food like grilled cheese and tomato soup and wows diners with massive sweet treats like the No Way Jose sundae. Beaches & Cream is a play on peaches and cream, a simple, soul-satisfying dessert that provides comfort and familiarity to those who love it. No Way Jose’s Close Up Beaches & Cream manages to evoke that comfort while also identifying its location (at the Beach Club!) and giving a hint to its signature treats (ice cream galore!). That’s three connotations in one clever name! Victoria & Albert’s — Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Victoria & Albert’s is a historically interesting name, inspired by Queen Victoria and her husband, Albert, Prince Consort. The Victorian Era, named after England’s second longest-reigning queen, was the height of power for England and was characterized by richness, exclusivity, and conservativeness. Main Dining Room at Victoria & Albert’s Disney’s award-winning Victoria & Albert’s is all that and outstanding food. Dining here is pricey even by Disney standards, but the service, food, and overall experience are top-notch — not just at Walt Disney World, but in the actual world (we’re talking AAA Five Diamond Award, James Beard Foundation Award nominations for Best Chef South, etc!). Bittersweet Chocolate Dome on Praline Crunch Like the queen for whom the restaurant is named, Victoria & Albert’s strives for prominence in the world and finds it. Click here to read our most recent review. Interestingly, for years the restaurant referred to all of their servers as either “Victoria” or “Albert” depending on their gender. The practice has, thankfully, been dropped. Le Cellier — Epcot’s World Showcase, Canada Pavilion Le Cellier, je t’aime. In this case, the language and the translation matter. Le Cellier reflects Canada’s rich French Canadian heritage, but it uses a term that won’t scare anyone off because this isn’t a fancy French restaurant; it’s the cellar! Inside Le Cellier Le Cellier matches the expectation set by its translation in the decor, which plays with arches, light, shadow, and stone to create a moody dining space. The food, we’re happy to say, is typically good, which is why this restaurant is so popular (despite the steep prices and two-credit requirement on DDP!). Poutine at Le Cellier And, bien sur, there’s plenty of poutine. See what we thought in this review of three types of this Quebecois delicacy! Tangierine Cafe — Epcot’s World Showcase, Morocco Pavilion Tangierine Cafe is another wonderful place name that provides a frame of reference for the restaurant it identifies. Tangier is the third most populated city in Morocco with nearly one million residents, and it’s been an important port for centuries. In fact, the fruit tangerine took its name from this city. And now you see how Tangierine Cafe is more than a clever place name; it’s a play on words, too. Tangierine Cafe The food at Tangierine Cafe reflects the popular foods of Morocco (and the wider region) and has a freshness that is, perhaps, also implied by its fruit-themed name. And we are big fans of this quick service spot as an alternative to more traditional theme park fare. Vegetarian Platter at Tangierine Cafe in Epcot’s Morocco Pavilion: is it right for you? Dining at Walt Disney World is exciting for so many reasons, not the least of which is the thoughtful design from restaurant names to dining rooms to menus. With so many new restaurants still to come this year, we look forward to decoding the names and eating all the things. Click here to browse through our 2019 Disney Restaurant Ultimate Guide! As Easter weekend approaches, I thought it would be fun to cruise the Disneyland Resort in search of “bunnies.” You may or may not be surprised to hear that there is no shortage of the floppy-ear critters around the resort – too many for a single Walk in the Park column. Here are a few favorites! The most prominent bunny at the Disneyland Resort is probably The White Rabbit from Walt Disney’s 1951 classic animated feature “Alice in Wonderland.” The White Rabbit can of course be seen inside the Alice in Wonderland attraction Fantasyland. However, he can also be seen as a statue between the attraction and Matterhorn Bobsleds and as a bronze figure in the Central Plaza (near the Partners statue). Be sure to also keep an eye out for his house, which is situated next to the Mad Hatter hat shop. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of Walt Disney’s original animated characters, has a home at Disney California Adventure park on Buena Vista Street. Visit Oswald’s for great resort gear and the occasional character appearance. There are six adorable bunnies to ride on the all new Jessie’s Critter Carousel in Pixar Pier. Giddy up! And while you’re at Disney California Adventure park, stroll on over to San Francisco Street near The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure for a character encounter with Judy Hopps of “Zootopia” fame! Back in Disneyland park, Roger Rabbit is always up to something in Mickey’s Toontown. Ride a rotating taxi through Roger’s world on Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and experience a dizzying detour through the life of a toon. Mind the dip! Travel through Hundred-Acre Wood and look out for Rabbit on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in Critter Country. Lastly, for a limited time, you can meet the Easter Bunny himself at Disneyland park (intermittently throughout the day in Town Square). If you are participating in the Eggstravaganza scavenger hunt, search for Thumper as an Easter egg! Yes, “bunnies” abound at the Disneyland Resort. How many will you spot during your next visit? Feel free to leave your list in the comment section below. View the full article

It’s finally time for us to get an INSIDE LOOK at Disney’s Skyliner gondolas and answer some long-held questions about cooling, wheelchair accessibility, and comfort! Disney’s Skyliner The Orlando Sentinel reported today — with video!! — that the Skyliner system will consist of 300 gondolas in 8 bright colors with 22 character cars and will travel nearly 60 feet in the air over Walt Disney World at the system’s highest point! This will afford riders with one-of-a-kind views overlooking lakes, trees, parks, and more! Disney’s Skyliner Views And that’s just the system by the numbers! The Sentinel spoke to Thomas Mazloum, the Disney senior vice president who oversees resorts and transportation, who explained that the gondolas will feature thoughtfully designed cross-ventilation crafted with the Florida climate in mind. Cross-ventilation in Disney’s Skyliner Additionally, the windows of the gondolas are designed to reflect sunlight away from the vehicles, maintaining a comfortable temperature inside the cabin. Disney’s Skyliner with vented, reflecting windows Seating will consist of wooden benches capable of holding ten passengers, with accessibility for wheelchairs. (ECVs were not specifically mentioned, but we expect they, too, will be accommodated in the cabins. Disney’s Skyliner Seating As we’ve reported, the gondolas have been in testing for weeks, with guests of the parks looking skyward to take in the new transportation vehicles as they whizz by — as fast as 11mph!! — in their white plastic coverings. Trips from Skyliner resorts and theme parks will take between 5-15 minutes, depending on the distance you’re traveling, and loading is described as continuous in the Skyliner stations, with the capability to pause the system to allow wheelchairs to board. Disney’s Skyliner No opening date has been announced for the Skyliner system (just “fall 2019”), but the Sentinel reports that cast members are expected to begin riding the vehicles in August, and the timeline for testing is described to be “months” long. Disney’s Skyliner So will the Skyliner be open in time to shuttle Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge guests to and fro? That remains to be seen — and you can bet we’ll be watching! Is it just me or do the holidays always sneak up on us? We’re already less than a week away from Easter and I’m just beginning my shopping. (Please tell me I’m not the only one!) Lucky for me, Disney Springs is hoppin’ with fun and delicious finds to make the perfect Easter basket. Need some ideas? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered—but first brunch. There’s no denying that Disney Springs boasts an incredible line-up of dining destinations and brunch is no exception. Wine Bar George recently debuted Wine Country Brunch available Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. featuring a menu of favorites like Burrata, Eggs Benedict, Fresh Toast and so much more. Buffet options include Maria & Enzo’s (with the guest of honor, the Easter Bunny) and STK Orlando. Specialty à la carte menus can be found at Enzo’s Hideaway and The Edison. (Reservations are recommended so hop to it and make yours here.) Looking to build your own basket this year? Add a little Disney magic with the all-new Disney Parks Wishables collection. These adorable little plush just debuted at Once Upon a Toy and come in 4 different sets. (As a Disney foodie, the Frozen Food Set is my favorite.) The best part? They come in blind bag packaging so your little ones can guess which plush they’re getting. If your kiddo loves larger huggable plush, swing by the Build-A-Dino by Build-A-Bear Workshop at T-REX and customize your own bunny, sloth or dino with colorful Easter-themed attire to match. Over at Basin, fresh scents are a-plenty featuring new Easter egg bath bombs in three popular fragrances including Pink Sugar, Satsuma, and Water Lily. Fresh cut soaps are also available in spring floral designs. Looking for a fully-assembled basket? Goofy’s Candy Co. is bringing back their popular Disney baskets compete with delicious goodies—plus don’t forget about your greeting card. Lovepop has some “egg-stra” exciting pop-up designs at a newly opened kiosk in front of Paddlefish. Be sure to treat yourself while you’re shopping. This week only, Sprinkles is paying homage to your favorite Easter snack, Peeps! Find them in Lemon Strawberry flavors through April 21. (Keep an eye out on a future Easter foodie guide from Alex for more details on treats from Amorette’s Patisserie and The Ganachery.) What kind of Easter basket are you building this year? It’s time to head back to Disneyland Resort to see What’s New! We found lots of construction — and related scrims — plenty of fun new merchandise, and a sweet cupcake! Sleeping Beauty Refurbishment Disneyland Resort Construction Sleeping Beauty Castle is still under scrims and scaffolding. There’s no end date for this refurbishment, but work includes repairs of damage to the castle roof from the park’s 60th celebration in 2015. Sleeping Beauty Refurbishment We also peeked through the construction walls and saw work being done on the walkways around the castle. Peek through the construction walls around Sleeping Beauty Castle And nearby — sadness! — the Donut Cart is behind construction walls! We’ve gotten some pretty solid confirmation from cast members that the donut cart has been demolished and will not be returning, but that the donuts will still be on their same schedule — deliveries in the morning and at 5pm — and will be sold at Jolly Holiday instead of at the donut cart.
