  1. With a collection of new initiatives, Disney Cruise Line is making a splash to inspire the next generation of female leaders in the maritime industry. The debut of Captain Minnie Mouse, new nautical youth programs and new scholarships are designed to empower girls and young women to pursue careers in the cruise industry and chart a course for success. Introducing Captain Minnie Mouse We know how Disney characters have a unique ability to inspire and connect with children. Now at Disney Cruise Line, Captain Minnie Mouse will encourage young girls around the world to consider a career in the maritime industry. She will spread the message of exploring new horizons, both by land and by sea. Captain Minnie Mouse, in her crisp new uniform with smart white trousers or skirt and a bold red jacket emblazoned with captain’s insignia, will make the rounds on all Disney ships starting in April. Empowering Women through Maritime Scholarships This year, Disney Cruise Line will sponsor four scholarships at the LJM Maritime Academy in The Bahamas for female cadets who aspire to be ship captains and shipboard leaders. The scholarships, one for each of the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, include two years of study at the academy and one year of service aboard a Disney ship. Nautical Fun for Children at Sea Onboard Disney Cruise Line ships later this year, Captain Minnie Mouse will appear in an all-new youth activity where young captain hopefuls practice STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills in a fun maritime-themed activity. Children will hone their STEM and problem-solving abilities – skills that play an important role in the maritime industry – in a series of engaging, hands-on activities. The interactive experience will be a journey of discovery, exploration and imagination that will be offered in Disney’s Oceaneer Lab aboard all Disney ships. Why Knot – Taking Nautical Fun Ashore As part of a commitment to encourage future generations to pursue careers in the maritime industry, Captain Minnie Mouse will visit children in some of Disney Cruise Line’s homeports and ports of call. Children will have an opportunity to meet Captain Minnie Mouse and be inspired by her “can do” qualities and ability to tackle any goal she sets her mind to. As part of these local community visits, Captain Minnie Mouse will be accompanied by a female Disney Cruise Line officer or crew member to showcase their roles in the maritime industry and raise awareness about career choices for women aboard a cruise ship. Exclusive Captain Minnie Mouse Merchandise To celebrate the excitement of Captain Minnie Mouse at the helm, Disney Cruise Line is unveiling a special line of merchandise, exclusive to the Disney fleet. Items in the nautical-themed collection of apparel and gifts tout the tagline, “You Can Call Me Captain.” A brand-new Captain Minnie Mouse plush will be introduced this summer. Captain Minnie Mouse also takes the spotlight on a new PANDORA Jewelry charm, available for purchase exclusively onboard. In the future, girls will get to dress the part with a Captain Minnie Mouse makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, available exclusively on Disney ships. At this special salon, children can transform into seafaring captains, inspired by their favorite mouse. View the full article

  3. You may not think sushi and bowling go together… but they sure do when you’re at Splitsville Luxury Lanes! And the newest of the sushi offerings at this dining-and-bowling spot is the Galaxy Roll! Galaxy Roll @SplitsvilleORL Twitter Ahi tuna is seared in kimchee ponzu with spicy krab mix, avocado and cream cheese and is rolled in soy paper and topped with baked spicy shrimp mix, eel sauce, sesame seeds and scallions. Though we found out about the Galaxy Roll on Splitsville Orlando’s Twitter, it’s also showing up on the menu for the new Anaheim location as well. Greetings from Disneyland Splitsville Luxury Lanes! Is this new item a nod to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? Maybe. (Probably, actually. We’ve seen Disney nods at Splitsville before… remember the Beauty and the Beast roll?) In any case, it seems like this newest roll will be out of this world! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! 4. Magic Kingdom can be a bit overwhelming at times. You want to be sure to make the most of your experience, to have a good time, and to create lasting memories. Main Street USA A fun way to accomplish all three of these things at once is by taking Magic Shot photos throughout the park! Disney PhotoPass photographers are usually sprinkled throughout the parks and — based on their locations — they may have unique Magic Shot opportunities. A Magic Shot is when Disney adds a little bit of pixie dust to your photo. This may mean that Peter Pan will be flying overhead or that Stitch will appear next to you eating an ice cream cone. Disney changes their Magic Shot options pretty frequently, and they have released information on their current favorite Magic Shots at Magic Kingdom. The first Magic Shot is located at Magic Kingdom’s main entrance. It features Peter Pan flying overhead! ©Disney Ooo this photo makes us want a Premium Mickey Ice Cream Bar SO badly. And did you spot the dripping hidden Mickey? This perfect castle photo can also be taken on Main Street U.S.A. ©Disney This Magic Shot can be taken on Main Street U.S.A. It looks like Mickey is holding a Polaroid of the family, such a cute keepsake! ©Disney This Magic Shot features a few of our beloved Muppets friends. You can take this photo on Main Street U.S.A. ©Disney Have you ever wanted wings like Tink? I know I have. Well, guess what… you can get your very own pair by taking this photo in Fantasyland. ©Disney Doesn’t Stitch look so cute and…hungry? We think this is a really fun photo for the kiddos. You can take this photo on the bridge leading to Tomorrowland! ©Disney Pascal is one of our favorite favorite Disney side-kicks, so this one makes me really excited! This photo featuring Pascal can be taken in Fantasyland. ©Disney The Haunted Mansion has received a lot of buzz lately after Disney announced that the ride now features an on-ride photo. But, Disney doesn’t stop there when it comes to spooky Haunted Mansion photos. After exiting the ride, guests can take a Hitchhiking Ghost Magic Shot! ©Disney Look at this little sweetie! You and your little ones can take this adorable photo with Sebastian from The Little Mermaid near Prince Eric’s Castle! ©Disney In front of Beast’s Castle (Be Our Guest Restaurant) families can take a Magic Shot photo with Lumiere. Isn’t it a great family photo? We sure do think so! ©Disney As always, if you want a Magic Shot taken, just ask the Disney PhotoPass Photographer. Sometimes they will offer, other times they will not. So, just make sure to ask! Also, if you plan on taking a large number of photos while on your Disney vacation, you may want to look into the Memory Maker. This is a ticket add-on that grants you unlimited picture downloads. The cost is $169 if you purchase the Memory Maker in advance. What is your favorite Disney Magic Shot? Let us know in the comments below! 5. Greetings from Epcot!! We took a stroll around the park and found some awesome new merchandise, adorable new jelly candies, and of course, construction updates! Spaceship Earth Take a lap around Epcot with us while we show you what’s new! What’s New in Epcot’s Future World We are so excited about the Guardians of the Galaxy ride opening in 2021, so we snagged a few new pictures of the construction. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction The attraction will live in a newly constructed building, with the queue in the now-extinct Ellen’s Energy Adventure building. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction Guardians of the Galaxy Construction The attraction will feature state of the art ride vehicles and is projected to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. Guardians of the Galaxy Construction Also coming to Future World is a new space-themed restaurant between Test Track and Mission Space. Space Restaurant Construction Progress The Space Restaurant promises to be like nothing we’ve ever seen before! You can read more details here. Mission Space + Construction Crane We spotted the construction crane behind Mission Space on our last walk! The Space Restaurant is scheduled to blast-off in 2020. Further along in Future World, we noticed something unusual at the Garden Grill Restaurant. Foliage Outside Garden Grill They’ve put a bunch of potted plants outside the entrance! Don’t worry — dining and characters will continue as normal. We believe these are just up to cover some routine maintenance and “facelifts.” Foliage Outside Garden Grill What’s New in Epcot’s World Showcase First up, in the shops of Norway we found the cutest jelly candies! Swedish Jelly Horses They are shaped in the traditional Swedish Dala Horses! Too cute, right?! Swedish Jelly Horses As we ventured into China, we noticed Lotus Blossom Cafe has already removed the Foo Beer Cocktail from the main menu, but you can see it on signage near the register. Foo Beer Cocktail Previously, the drink was listed with tequila, but now you can choose between tequila, peach schnapps, dark rum, triple sec, or amaretto. Which would you choose? Nearby at Pizza al Taglio in Italy, they’ve added registers outside where you order, and then pick up at the window. Pizza al Taglio This is a pretty popular spot (as it should be — the pizza is delightful) so this makes sense to help with the crowds. In the American Adventure Pavilion, there are still construction walls up. America Pavilion Construction Looks like they are continuing on some new brick work, with some stones being laid since we were last here. America Pavilion Construction America Pavilion Construction We headed to Japan to check on the construction there as well. A new Signature Restaurant is opening, but as of now, we don’t have any opening dates yet. But you know we will share them as soon as we get more details! Japan Signature Restaurant Construction Japan Signature Restaurant Construction More details on the new restaurant can be found here! In France, we spotted our second adorable bag of gummy snacks — these gummy kicks! Gummy Kicks We also found this touching tribute drawn on the chalkboard in Les Vins de France. <3 Notre Dame Chalkboard In the United Kingdom, we noticed a name change on the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. Chicken and Mushroom Pastry The Cast Members let us know the Yorkshire Fish Shop dish hasn’t changed — except it’s now called the Chicken and Mushroom Pasty. Check out our review here! International Gateway has changed as well! The main entrance is now blocked off, and Guests are being directed towards a temporary entrance. International Gateway Construction Security checks take place under the overhang by the ticketing windows. International Gateway Construction And temporary touchpoints have been set up for park entry. International Gateway Construction International Gateway Construction What’s New in Epcot’s Shops and Stores — New Merchandise! “Hippity hoppity Easter’s on its way!” And you can celebrate with these adorable flags spotted at a Flower and Garden Kiosk in Germany. 12. Just over 12 months since Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced a bold $100 million commitment to support children’s hospitals around the world, leaders from Disney and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, debuted a suite of experiences, murals and interactive art aimed at providing comfort and inspiration for children and families. The initiative, called Disney Team of Heroes, builds on The Walt Disney Company’s long legacy of delivering comfort and inspiration to families with children facing serious illness. Disney Team of Heroes combines Disney’s beloved characters with the unparalleled creativity of its employees and cast members to bring classic stories to life in innovative ways that are designed to reduce the anxiety of a hospital stay. “As the name ‘Team of Heroes’ implies, at Disney we know that if you want something to be timeless and touch the hearts of millions, it requires a talented team to bring it all to life. That is why we are so fortunate to have Texas Children’s Hospital and our advisory board help guide on this effort,” said Elissa Margolis, senior vice president, Enterprise Social Responsibility. “We could not have done this without all the guidance, partnership and collaboration from doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, child life specialists, creative teams, tech leaders and also, importantly, parents.” To reimagine the patient journey, Disney consulted a Panel of Experts that included physicians, caregivers and child life specialists who stated that the Company could make the greatest impact by focusing on moments of highest anxiety for children and families in hospitals, such as arrival and transitions to examination and operating rooms (including the “kissing zone,” in which patients and their families separate before the child undergoes surgery). Teams from every line of business across The Walt Disney Company came together to deliver solutions that are simple for hospitals to implement, sustain and scale. The concepts unveiled at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) today are designed by many of Disney’s creative and technology experts, storytelling and experience experts, and the world-renowned Imagineers, who set out to bring a little bit of Disney magic to families during a challenging and uncertain time. The teams at Disney took a holistic approach to the program, which encompasses a range of experiences, from reimagined public spaces that create a warm and inspiring atmosphere for patients and families; to personal moments that empower patients and build connections to caregivers and hospital staff; and engaging content that will be accessed across a variety of platforms and transformative events. They also focused on opportunities to engage hospital staff, who are an integral part of these magic moments Disney has created for patients and their families. In TCH’s public spaces, Imagineers today unveiled Magic Windows, which provide mesmerizing views into the active, living worlds found in the stories of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars; and Magic Portals, which engage patients and families with games and favorite characters from across the worlds of Disney. Breathtaking murals, intended to draw one’s imagination into the vibrant environments of Disney’s classic stories, have been designed with a magical twist: The characters from each mural spark to life in stories and games that can be accessed via the Disney WOW app on mobile devices. The Disney WOW app activates augmented reality experiences that help create a more personal journey for each patient—one of the program’s key objectives. A child can literally wear their favorite character, thanks to themed hospital gowns that feature costume style designs from Disney, Marvel and Star Wars. Newly designed wristbands, which debut today, help staff recognize the favorite character of a child and also serve as symbolic “tickets” to special experiences and spaces throughout the hospital. Patients select their wristband and their chosen character remains with them throughout their hospital journey via personal experiences that include care packages, and the delightfully charming Magic Art, which delivers fun, animated, inspirational messages to patients. An array of colorful Disney-themed products featuring characters patients know and love are intended to make hospital rooms feel more like home and a patient’s stay more comfortable. Care packages come filled with toys, games, books and activities that entertain patients; while an array of themed room décor items—from tray liners to cups—also helps to bring color and familiarity to the patient’s room and brighten his or her stay. Engaging content and events will provide welcome distractions for patients and create opportunities to spend time with family and friends. In addition to the Disney WOW app, patients can access stories, games and other entertainment offerings through the DisneyNOW app on mobile devices and enjoy them throughout the hospital or from the comfort of their room. A virtual reality headset, designed in partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation specifically for children’s hospitals, immerses patients in a new realm of fantastic experiences—filled with beloved characters and delightful story worlds—that they can explore from their own hospital beds, and a Mobile Movie Theater makes it possible for patients to view favorite movies with family and friends in various gathering spaces throughout the hospital. Disney has also created opportunities for hospital staff to connect with the program while forging deeper connections with their patients. Themed Staff Badges—each representing a favorite Disney character of the staff member who wears it—activate special and engaging moments for patients and family to enjoy throughout the hospital. Additionally, hospital leaders and staff will receive specialized training provided by Disney Institute to help them deliver an exceptional level of care, compassion, comfort and connection—along with a little Disney magic. The TCH pilot will enable the Disney teams to learn more, adapt and continue to strengthen the initiative overall for the benefit of patients, families and hospital staff. Additional concepts will be added over time, including a Comfort Corridor, which incorporates artwork and music to provide comfort and distraction for patients and families prior to surgery; and one-of-a-kind, story-themed Playspaces where anyone can play, interact and make new friends. As the program rolls out in additional hospitals here in the U.S. and around the globe, teams at Disney will continue to collaborate with experts to measure the impact of the work and ensure the Company is delivering on its commitment to ease the stress of a hospital stay in ways only Disney can. “The magic and joy we have all experienced at a Disney park is now apparent as you walk throughout our hospital, and I am looking forward to seeing how this special partnership enhances the patient and family experience at Texas Children’s,” said Dr. Larry Hollier, Surgeon-in-Chief, Texas Children’s Hospital. Easter Bunny Tail And this egg made our jaws drop a bit. Castle Egg A closer looks reveals that Mickey and Minnie are standing on colorful sprinkles in their classic outfits. These lead all the way up to the magnificent castle. Mickey and Minnie Castle Egg There is also a Tangled-themed egg this year. 14. In-Room Dining at Walt Disney World is a bit of a gamble. In the past when I’ve tried it, the food has been lukewarm at best, cold/old at worst, and not prepared very well. (Or rather, it may have been prepared well but didn’t survive its journey to my room!) So when I ordered In-Room Dining for breakfast at Walt Disney World’s Wilderness Lodge, I managed my expectations. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge But I’m happy (and frankly surprised) to say that it was actually pretty good! I was traveling with my son, so the Kids’ Menu Mickey Waffles were a must. Of course, with this view, it’s possible that anything would taste better! Those are the Copper Creek Cabins below and the Contemporary and Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle in the distance. We had some great fireworks views from this room! Kids’ Menu Mickey Waffles with Bacon The Mickey Waffles were crisp and well-cooked (very glad they weren’t soggy!), and the bacon was standard Disney bacon — not super crispy, but flavorful. Mickey Waffles The Ham and Cheddar Omelet was another decent item. It was warm, and the flavors were great. The breakfast potatoes (roasted with red pepper) had good flavor, too, though weren’t as salty as I would have liked. Ham and Cheddar Omelet We ordered a bowl of Fresh Mixed Berries, and these were exactly as advertised: fresh! The cereal-sized bowl was filled with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Mixed Berries Mickey Butter came on the side, and that’s always a fun addition. (Don’t mind that poor, mushed Mickey on the top; he doesn’t do mornings.) Mickey Butter Overall, I have to say this was probably the best In-Room Dining I’ve had at Walt Disney World. The food was tasty and still appropriately warm. And the delivery of the food was fairly speedy — especially when I compare it to room service I’ve ordered in the past. Of course, mileage will vary on In-Room Dining since lots of factors can affect the quality of the food you receive, but this time it was a win! Aloha Isle‘s Hei Hei Character Cone is currently unavailable. Hei Hei Cone Click here to read our review of the Hei Hei Character Cone!
