In late March, Disney announced several new policies for guests visiting parks in Walt Disney World and Disneyland. And most of those new policies go into effect today, May 1, 2019. My Disney Experience App pop up with park rules Included in the new policies is a ban on smoking inside the parks. Park maps have been updated designating the new outside-of-entrance smoking locations accordingly. Animal Kingdom Park Map and Guide In Animal Kingdom, the only smoking location is outside the gates near the security stands. Animal Kingdom Park Map with new Smoking Area And as of today, the only Magic Kingdom smoking area is past the ferryboat and toward the bus stops. New Magic Kingdom Park Map Magic Kingdom Smoking Area Also this morning, many guests driving to the parks received this notice at the parking toll booth. New Park Rules In Effect May 1 As a reminder, these new policies include a ban on smoking in the theme parks, limitations on Stroller sizes (including a new Policy banning Stroller Wagons), and new rules surrounding the bringing of loose and dry ice in the parks. Now while we haven’t seen these stroller guides in Disney World parks yet, Disneyland has them on the ground to check your stroller size before going into the parks. We’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the park’s 30th anniversary! As part of the celebration this morning, the park had an energetic cavalcade of characters and cast members in dress from around the park. And that means we got a FIRST LOOK at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge costumes up close! Happy 30th Anniversary to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! In February we took a look at images of the costumes coming to Batuu (see that sneak peek here!), and now we’ve got an up-close look! At first glance, we’re seeing lots of neutral colors in shades of brown and gray — but pops of blue are a recurring theme, too! Citizens of Batuu Another theme? Layering! Those layers serve a purpose for Disney costuming, who wanted costumes to have a lived-in, mix-and-match quality. Citizens of Batuu And in the central Florida heat, those layers might not look so weather-appropriate, but Disney has said “Mesh panels make vests lighter, nylon makes a stretchy pant more unique, cotton creates a more breathable shirt. Comfort and durability are priorities when creating Cast costumes, so the team conducted a variety of tests to ensure the fabrics would wear well over time.” Citizens of Batuu We’re also seeing lots of hats (that we’re secretly hoping show up in merchandise locations!), which Disney has noted will be optional for the ‘Citizens of Batuu’ (a/k/a cast members) and useful in some types of weather. Citizens of Batuu Overall we’re loving the laid-back, practical designs and can’t wait to see them in Black Spire Outpost! Citizens of Batuu Also, how fun is it that cast members in Galaxy’s Edge will be referred to as Citizens of Batuu? Earl of Sandwich in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney has new cookies — and if that’s not exciting enough, a new sandwich wrapper, too! Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney Anaheim The Reese’s Cookie Bites come in a plastic to-go container and in a group of 8 for $3.99. They’re perfectly packaged for sharing (if you so choose) or for carrying around the parks to snack on throughout the day! Reese’s Cookies Despite being called “bites” these are actually pretty sizable! And the Reese’s are left in big chunks, so there’s no missing them! Reese’s Cookie In addition to this new-to-us cookie news, we noticed another, bigger change: sandwich packaging wasn’t gold as it always has been! Instead, sandwiches are being wrapped in a red, white, and blue foil that resembles the Union Jack! Reese’s Cookies Check it out! Same great sandwich, same shiny foil — but in a new design! Even up to this past weekend, the wrappers were that historic, ubiquitous gold, so this is a recent change. No word on whether it’s permanent, but we’ll check back in to see how this unfolds. TOMORROW, May 1st, is Disney’s Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary… can you believe it? In celebration of the big event, we were able to catch a glimpse of some of the merchandise that will be available for Studios big celebration. A hat, t-shirts, pins, a Tervis tumbler, and ornaments are a few of the limited release merchandise pieces that will be available at Hollywood Studios starting tomorrow. A few of these items have been already been previewed by Disney (view the post here), but it was really fun to get a closer look at the items — plus a few more! — at a special Walt Disney World media event today! All of the new merchandise has a very classic and timeless Disney feel that’s a great fit for an anniversary celebration. To kick this preview off, let’s take a look at this Mickey hat! We’re loving the stitching and the 30 years logo on the front. 30 Years Mickey Hat The hat has the Hollywood Studios logo and 2019 stitched into the back! 30 Years Mickey Hat We saw two t-shirt designs, one of which is an Annual Passholder exclusive. 30 Years T-Shirts The grey Annual Passholder t-shirt features the Hollywood Tower Hotel, the Millennium Falcon, Woody, Buzz, and more! 30 Years Passholder T-Shirt We also love the movie reel, it gives us total MGM vibes! 30 Years T-Shirt The Tervis Tumbler features the new 30th Anniversary logo and a few of our favorite Hollywood Studios pals including Slinky, Kermit, Edna Mode, Olaf, and BB-8. Tervis Tumbler The size is also a really nice feature of this cup. It can carry a TON of liquid, so it’ll make for a nice park cup to use at water fountains. We have some “fantastique” news to share! If you have little ones, you may already know there are plenty of activities and attractions for them to experience at the Disneyland Resort. One of the most popular shows is Disney Junior Dance Party! at Disney California Adventure park where the littlest guests shake it off and laugh themselves silly with Vampirina, Doc McStuffins, Timon and more. Even Mickey and Minnie Mouse from “Mickey and the Roadster Racers” drive in from Hot Dog Hills to join the fun! To make things even more exciting, this Friday, the cast of Disney Junior Dance Party! are throwing a one-time bash to welcome Fancy Nancy, the beloved new Disney Junior friend who will meet and greet guests on Sunset Boulevard at Disney California Adventure! Greetings once again from Disney’s Hollywood Studios! As we celebrate 30 years of magic at Hollywood Studios, we are also taking a look at what’s to come for the future of the park (like a new restaurant in Toy Story Land!). For instance, we now have a look at the marquee design for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway! And Imagineers also shared more of what we can look forward to when Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opens in Spring 2020! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Concept Art ©Disney Not only is the ride inspired by the “cadence and comedy” of the new Mickey and Minnie cartoon shorts, but guests will also get to ride into the cartoon itself. Imagineers shared that it will be our adventure, as guests, but we’ll be “fish out of water” in Mickey and Minnie and the gang’s world! Expect to enter a zany, theatrical world of cartoon logistics and physics! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Concept Art Now, why is Mickey in the theater? Because he has a long history of film premieres, and in this particular instance, we as guests will be attending the premiere of “Perfect Picnic” which will be the new short for the attraction that will provide a portal from the human world into the hand-drawn cartoon world. “Mickey Mouse in Perfect Picnic” ©Disney The attraction will feature its own original song that guests “won’t get out of their heads”! Chris Willis worked on the music, and the entire attraction will be scored like a movie, with the attraction as a musical. Chris Willis Speaking of sound, they’re going “old school” with the sound effects for the attraction, which will be created by hand, foot, and voice, along with using sound effects from over the years. And this is SO cool… the presenters even shared live sounds from of one of the original three whistles used in Steamboat Willie, and that same whistle will also be used in the attraction to provide sound in Goofy’s part of the story! Lots of great stuff is returning from previous Star Wars celebrations, and there’s even more to share! ©Disney Disneyland will be creating limited time magic throughout Tomorrowland which will allow you to create your own Star Wars adventure. With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge quickly approaching, Disney wanted to give guests the opportunity to enjoy a bit of Star Wars fun before the land opens on May 31st — and what better day to do so than on May the 4th? And speaking of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge today we were able to get a LOOK BEHIND THE WALLS in Hollywood Studios. Check that out here! Hyperspace Mountain May the 4th be with you as you ride on Hyperspace Mountain! Yep, the Star Wars-themed overlay for Space Mountain is returning to Disneyland for a limited time. While riding, you will rocket into the battlefield with swarms of Rebel X-wing Starfighters and Imperial TIE fighters. ©Disney March of the First Order Also returning for May the 4th is the March of the First Order with Captain Phasma and her Stormtroopers. They’ll be marching through Tomorrowland for a limited time. Captain Phasma leading First Order Stormtroopers Special Photo Opportunity Disney also revealed that there will be a special photo opportunity available at Starcade, though specific details on what the photo op will be have not been released yet. Limited Time Food and Beverage Options Did Disney say Star Wars snacks? Disney did! They will be offering a few limited time food and beverage options for the May the 4th Celebration! Galactic Grill and Alien Pizza Planet will both be serving Star Wars-themed snacks, including a Dark Side Chicken Sandwich and an Outer Rim Pasta. Alien Pizza Planet — “A Better Place” Check out the Season of the Force menu at Galactic Grill for an idea of what Star Wars items have been served before! You’ll also be able to purchase a themed stein, sipper, and popcorn bucket that will be inspired by Star Wars legends. As part of the 30th Anniversary celebration of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Cast Members across the park are getting a present in the form of new Cast Member costumes in various areas around the park! Hollywood Studios Cast Member Costumes The rollout of new Cast Member costumes is already in progress and will continue on an ongoing basis. And one example that’s new in the park today are the new duds for the Cast at Oscar’s Service Station! The park is also sharing a first in-person look at one of the Cast costumes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at a Walt Disney World media event we’re attending today. Black Spire Outpost Villager Costume You’ll see this Black Spire Outpost Villager costume in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when the land opens on August 29, 2019! Black Spire Outpost Villager Costume Black Spire Outpost Villager Costume Although, I should clarify… because Cast Members will be able to mix and match their outfits and accessories, you’ll actually see various combinations of costumes when you’re on the planet Batuu! Each villager will look unique.
