It’s just a matter of weeks until we get to explore all of the new restaurants and dining locations at Black Spire Outpost in Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! And today we’re getting a little more insight into the menu items available on Batuu! Meiloorun Juice, Turkey Jerky and Ronto Wrap ©Disney Parks The Official Disney Parks Blog highlighted a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Chef in its ‘Every Role a Starring Role” series this morning, and she’s giving us insights into the cuisine coming to Black Spire Outpost! Chef Amy Benson Chef Amy Benson leads a team of chefs who will execute the menu for Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when the land opens on May 31. Chef Benson notes that her counterparts at Walt Disney World have created the menu that both lands will serve to Batuu diners. Plating A Galaxy’s Edge Vegan Dish Chef Benson adds that dishes are all inspired by the Star Wars universe, with names that immediately evoke places familiar to fans. She also highlighted three dishes from Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, including at least one that will feature Korean influence: the Smoked Kaadu Ribs. Sure, this week delivered a huge day of celebration and fun over at Hollywood Studios for the park’s 30th Anniversary. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in a matter of weeks at Disneyland Park, and if you have visions of exhausting waits for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, the land’s first major attraction, Disney wants you to know that there will be some comfort available for those facing long lines. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter Disney will be offerings snacks for purchase for those in line. No specifics have been released, but we would expect simple packaged snacks and bottled water (and perhaps additional bottled drinks). A slew of new sweet treats have arrived at Magic Kingdom (with more popping up on May 9 — see them all here!!), and Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies is celebrating the main mouse with the Mickey Milk Shake! Mickey Milkshake The Mickey Milk Shake is a play on Mickey’s favorite colors — and two sweet garnishes that make it fun for everyone! We’re starting with this shot of the yellow cotton candy because… well, it melted. Fast. Mickey Milkshake The cotton candy is accompanied by a soft white Mickey-shaped marshmallow! We’ve seen a couple incarnations of this marshmallow at Auntie’s over the past several months, and we love it! Mickey Milkshake Despite the softness of the marshmallow, the edges are clean, and you can really appreciate the Mickey shape. Mickey Milkshake Let’s just briefly mention the black and white straw that is jammed unceremoniously through Mickey’s head… this is a paper straw (see why this matters here!), and it’s wide enough to actually drink this thick milk shake. Mickey Milkshake The shake itself is strawberry flavored, and it’s pretty clearly made with strawberry syrup. The color is just a little too vivid to be real fruit; plus: no seeds. But it’s tasty and will cool you down now that temps are rising in the Kingdom! Mickey Milkshake This is a super-sweet shake that you’ll probably want to share. One of the things we love most at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is welcoming babies to our family, and the animal care team is delighted to announce the birth of a healthy baby western lowland gorilla! Mom Kashata delivered the infant Wednesday morning, May 1, and both mom and baby are doing well and bonding onstage at Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail with the rest of the family troop. The entire family even joined in the celebration of the new baby’s arrival with a special enrichment tactic to reveal the baby’s gender. Guess what – it’s a girl! And her name is Grace! Kashata and the baby’s father, Gino, were chosen to breed through the Species Survival Plan (SSP). The program is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and ensures responsible breeding of critically endangered species, such as western lowland gorillas, so they will have healthy, genetically diverse populations for years to come. The team of Disney animal care experts has decided to name the baby Grace after the GRACE gorilla sanctuary in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is dedicated to helping gorillas orphaned by poaching. Animal care experts from Disney’s Animal Kingdom have spent more than 10 years helping the GRACE team and local community rehabilitate orphan gorillas and protect the species in the wild. Guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom can join in the celebration of the baby’s arrival by visiting Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail and may catch a glimpse of Kashata and the baby. Earlier today, Disney’s Hollywood Studios kicked off its 30th anniversary celebration with a special cavalcade of Disney characters on Hollywood Boulevard! Mickey and Minnie Mouse led the festivities honoring the past, present, and the new, exciting future of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The park’s 30th anniversary celebration included some exciting updates, including the announcement of an upcoming Toy Story Land restaurant as well as a “Toy Story” pop-up merchandise location and new park logo. Here’s a quick rundown: New Toy Story Land Restaurant – Roundup Rodeo BBQ will be an immersive restaurant coming to the park that’ll surround guests with a whimsical kaleidoscope of toys, games, and playsets to give them yet another dining experience that could only be had in Toy Story Land. Toy Story Mania! Merchandise Shop – In celebration of Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” a pop-up merchandise location will be opening at Toy Story Land later this month. Located at the exit of Toy Story Mania!, this shop will feature a variety of “Toy Story” products, including new items commemorating Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” film. New Disney’s Hollywood Studios Logo – The park’s new logo, which emphasizes the transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios was unveiled today. The logo features BB-8 from Star Wars, Woody and Mickey Mouse. Wonderful World of Animation Projection Show – And to top off the anniversary celebration, the park’s new nighttime projection show debuts tonight. During the show, the façade of the Chinese Theatre is magically transformed, displaying a stirring tribute to animation that includes spectacular sequences celebrating themes like magic, family, adventure, romance and friendship. Disneyland Resort food and beverage offerings are more than a meal—they epitomize Disney storytelling. For the past 19 years, Chef Amy Benson has been a part of the resort’s culinary team, beginning her Disney journey at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa where she developed her skills. Now, Amy is helping to bring to life the tastes of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is opening May 31 at Disneyland park. Whew, after a long day of reviews we thought it might be nice to sit back and relax with a cocktail (which we have to review anyway, so we’re not really sitting back and relaxing at all…but let us have this, OK?). Banana Split Cocktail Hollywood Studios has released a TON of treats today in celebration of their 30th Anniversary, including Incredibles Macarons and Lightsaber Churros. And next up is what SOUNDS to be a whole lot of fun in a glass — the Banana Split Cocktail. This one includes Vanilla Vodka, Crème de Cacao, Crème de Banana, Strawberry Monin, and Pineapple Juice. Sounds incredible, right?! Super sweet! Dessert-in-a-glass! And it was…fine. But we’ve reviewed better cocktails. Banana Split Cocktail Yep, very sweet. Somewhat refreshing. But we didn’t get all the flavors — we could barely taste the banana after the first sip — and it’s a Banana Split Cocktail…shouldn’t it taste more like bananas? We can’t help but think it would have been about 10x better taste- and texture-wise if it had been a frozen cocktail. What did YOU think if you tried it? We’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios today for the big 30th Anniversary Celebration, and we have made our way throughout the park tasting and reviewing all (and we mean ALL) of the limited time treats. Slinky Dog 30th Anniversary Logo ©Disney While eating and drinking our way through the park we have encountered a few really delicious treats, like the Lightsaber Churros and the Mickey and Minnie Celebration Cupcakes. But NOW it’s time to share one of our favorite cocktails of the day…and it has a special addition that we know you’re going to love! We are toasting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ 30th Birthday with the Celebration Fizz Cocktail! But, what separates this from the rest of the treats we’ve indulged in today? Well…we will answer that for you guys in two simple words EDIBLE GLITTER. Celebration Fizz The Celebration Fizz Cocktail has a rim of edible gold glitter that is a nod to the Golden Age of Hollywood. It’s party time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where the 30th anniversary celebration is still going strong. Over at Catalina Eddie’s on Sunset Boulevard, guests can celebrate with the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Verrine! Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Verrine This dessert is one of four 30th Anniversary Verrines that guests can tuck into during this limited-time celebration. The others are a Tres Leches Verrine, a Raspberry Mousse Verrine, and a Key Lime Pie Verrine. This one strikes a delicious balance between sweet and tart, thanks to fresh blueberries, creamy cheesecake, and tart lemon custard! Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Verrine The layered dessert is heavy on the cheesecake — but it totally works because the lemon custard is bright and tart, providing a hint of a pucker! Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Verrine The base is made of fresh blueberries (no graham cracker crust here), and subsequent layers are cheesecake, lemon custard, cheesecake, and (beneath the 30th anniversary square) a little more lemon! Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake Verrine Garnishes include that white chocolate 30th piece featuring a smiling Minnie and Mickey, some crispy pearls, and more fresh blueberries! We’re back with another sweet treat in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Buzz Lightyear in Mickey’s Cavalcade at the 30th Anniversary Celebration This time? It’s the Playful Luxo Ball Mousse at BaseLine Tap House and The Trolley Car Café in honor of all things Pixar! Now… we LOVE adorable treats and that’s why we had to pick this little guy up…but we’re sad to report that it didn’t blow us away when it came to flavor . The Playful Luxo Ball is honestly kind of a weird combination of a mousse and a tart. Our taste-tester said she may not have been blown away by the flavor since the mousse happens to be Passion Fruit/Mango flavored, which she isn’t a big fan of. Playful Luxo Ball The treat had a nice texture overall with the bottom being moist, yet hefty enough to hold the dessert. The Playful Luxo Ball certainly is an abundant mix of flavors including Banana Sponge Cake, Caramel Chocolate, and Rice Croquant. The little rice pieces added a good crunch and texture to the bite! Playful Luxo Ball So…if you like a fruit-flavored mousse, this adorable little treat just might meet your mark. It’s the 30th anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but that’s not the only park having some fun with food today! Over at Magic Kingdom several new sweet treats are making their debut today, including this whole new Wish Granted Donut from Sunshine Tree Terrace! Wish Granted Donut This donut makes quite the first impression! From the shock of blue cotton candy to the thick layer of gold sprinkles, it captures the spirit of the movie (not to mention the film’s beloved Genie!). Wish Granted Donut The base is a yeast donut, so it’s more pillowy than dense. The glaze is simple and not itself overly sweet, but it definitely struggled in the heat and was starting to melt a bit. Wish Granted Donut And then there’s that layer of crunchy gold sprinkles. Now there’s some sugar! The texture is intense, and we liked the crunchiness of it, but if you’re sprinkles-averse, this one isn’t for you. Wish Granted Donut And while the cotton candy is definitely something to remove and eat separately, we were just happy it didn’t melt completely before we had a chance to enjoy it! The Disney Wish Program is a collaboration between the Disney Parks & Resorts and approved nonprofit wish-granting organizations that make wishes come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions. Disney’s history of wish granting began when Walt Disney opened Disneyland® Park and hosted children from around the world. In 1981, Disney partnered with the newly launched Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant the Foundation’s first official wish – a trip to Disneyland Park for 7-year-old Frank “Bopsy” Salazar. About the Disney Wish Program Through our Disney Wish program, we fulfill first wishes referred by approved nonprofit wish-granting organizations that make wishes come true for children, ages two and a half to 18 years old, with life-threatening medical conditions. All wish requests must be submitted through a recognized and registered nonprofit wish-granting organization; we do not accept wish requests directly from individuals. Wish Request Process If you know a child who would like to participate in this program, please contact your local wish granting organization directly, as we are unable to accept requests directly from families or individuals. Wish Granting Organizations Organizations who are interested in registering with Disney Parks & Resorts as an approved wish granting organization must meet the following requirements: Must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, in good standing within the last 12 months and verifiable in Guidestar. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is 30 years old today, and to celebrate, Disney’s pulling out all the specialty treat stops! And The Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat is selling out fast! Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat In fact, cast members we spoke to said they might have more around dinner time today (5/1/19) at ABC Commissary, but they couldn’t promise it! (Though perhaps there’s still some hope that they’ll be available at the Fantasmic! snack carts for when the show rolls around tonight. Fingers crossed!) It’s easy to see why guests are clamoring to get The Sorcerer’s Hat, what with that shiny blue exterior and silver moon and stars. It’s a great approximation of the classic hat! Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat If you do manage to get one for yourself, you’ll find a shortbread base topped with lemon sponge cake, vanilla Swiss buttercream, lemon curd, and white chocolate glaze. Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat There are two chocolate discs to add that Mickey touch! And in the blue glaze: edible glitter! It really is a special treat to look at (and photograph). Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat Buuuuuut… we were disappointed with this one. That blue glaze was strange, and the interior wasn’t worth the trouble of getting through it. There’s very little lemon curd, and the buttercream and cake aren’t very magical at all. Sorcerer’s Hat 30th Anniversary Treat So this might be a treat for the ‘gram if you can manage to snag one, but if you can’t, there are much better-tasting treats available in the park for the celebration.
