Westward Ho Refreshments is a small, permanent kiosk located in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland. It’s across from Prairie Outpost and Supply and just around the corner from Splash Mountain. Westward Ho Refreshments Though it’s small, the menu at Westward Ho has some big offerings. This is the home of Candied Bacon (for breakfast and lunch!), Corn Dogs, and a Sweet and Spicy Chicken Skewer. (See our review of the Candied Bacon and Chicken Skewer from their original location at Liberty Square Market!) Candied Bacon and Chicken Skewers But today we’re after a cup of Joe! Cold Brew Coffee ($3.79) at Westward Ho has long had the option to add a flavored syrup ($.50 additional), with flavors including Caramel, Hazelnut, Vanilla, and Pumpkin. But on today’s visit, we noticed that Pumpkin syrup has been replaced by a Seasonal syrup. Cold Brew Coffee with Syrup Aaaaaand…in case you’re wondering, the Seasonal syrup at present is…pumpkin. So while it looks like Westward Ho is laying the ground work to start changing up their Seasonal syrup flavor, for now it’s the same-old with a new name. Cold Brew with Syrup Ironically, for a while now pumpkin has been unavailable (though still listed on the menu). Now that the designation has changed, pumpkin is back. Go figure. Cold Brew with Syrup So even though it’s ten million degrees (give or take a few) in central Florida right now, you can get your pumpkin on! Just, you know, ask for the Seasonal syrup add-in. Are you a pumpkin-flavor-all-year kinda person? Let us know if you seek out this fall flavor even in the middle of summer in the comments below! Each month the Coca-Cola Store Rooftop Bar in Disney Springs puts out a new Drink of the Month! Simply Razzle Dazzle And this month it’s the Simply Razzle Dazzle. Of course we had to give it a try — it’s SO HOT in Orlando right now that anything icee deserves a sample! Simply Razzle Dazzle Menu The drink is muti-colored with layers of red, white, and blue — perfect for July! It’s made with Fanta Blue Icee (SOLD!), Simply Lemonade, Evan Williams Peach, and Evan Williams Cherry. So, the drink itself was super delicious. But, fair warning since the liquor is poured at the bottom of the drink — you may find the first sip the be a bit overwhelming if you don’t stir it up! Simply Razzle Dazzle But the flavors mix together really well! And surprisingly enough, it wasn’t too sweet! This is likely thanks to the more tart flavors of the lemonade. You’ll find this drink at the Coca-Cola Rooftop Bar in Disney Springs for $10.00. Have you ever visited the Coca-Cola Rooftop Bar? What was your favorite drink? Let us know in the comments below! All aboard the Wildlife Express Train as we journey back to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Wildlife Express We’re excited to head back to the location, but fair warning…things look a little different this time around. Rafiki’s Planet Watch closed back in October of 2018 and for a while; and while we knew it would reopen eventually, we weren’t too sure what the location’s fate was going to be. Disney later announced that they had BIG plans for Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the Conservation Station! And today we can officially explore those big plans as the the Conservation Station has reopened with a new and fun activity. ANIMATION CLASSES!! Animation Experience We have seen variations of this animation activity at the resorts and long ago at Hollywood Studios (and animation classes are still going strong at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort). But the classes at Studios, to lots of guests’ dismay, were replaced when Star Wars Launch Bay was created. But now, the fun and FREE Animation Experience is back, folks. Animation Experience So, let’s explore changes that have been made to Rafiki’s Planet Watch Conservation Station and the Animal Kingdom’s version of the Animation Experience together! First, we hopped on the Wildlife Express Train. The trip was the same as it was before, and we saw a few backstage areas at Animal Kingdom. Backstage at Animal Kingdom But, the spiel was different as the announcement mentioned the new animation experience and Walt Disney himself! Wildlife Express Train Service Now, this IS a FastPass+ option and luckily we were able to snag one! But don’t fret if you aren’t able to get one. There are quite a few class times throughout the day. Animation Experience Showtimes If you do have a FastPass though, you can check in at this kiosk as you’ll have a guaranteed seat. FastPass+ Check-In FastPass+ Check-In Guests without FastPasses will be welcomed in afterward to fill in the empty spaces. Animation Experience Our animation experience began with us watching a movie of a Meerkat. (Hmm…I wonder if this is a clue… . ;-D) Meerkat Movie Then, the class began! Now, the biggest difference between this animation class and the ones that were offered at Hollywood Studios is that you’ll now only be drawing Disney animals. Animation Experience And currently, the class will focus on Lion King characters as a part of Animal Kingdom’s Celebration of The Lion King that is taking place! So, we had the opportunity to draw our favorite Meerkat, of course! Timon! The Making of Timon Like the Meerkat video we watched at the beginning of the class, there is a little video for each animal that will be offered. The videos were actually filmed right in the park with Animal Kingdom’s residents. AND fun fact!! Thee animators for the new live-action Lion King film actually came to Animal Kingdom and did 3D imagining of many of the animals. So….the Simba you see in the live-action was likely designed after the Lion seen on Kilimanjaro Safaris. Pretty cool, right? Lions on Kilimanjaro Safaris The class lasted about 20-minutes and was instructor-led, just like the other animation classes have been. Animation Experience We were able to see and follow along as the animator gave us steps, and the animator’s drawing was displayed on a screen. Animation Experience This is the paper, pencil, and clip board were provided. Animation Experience AND here is our final project! Timon To motivate you even further, there were also pictures around the Conservation Station of Walt and other Disney animators using live animals as inspiration for their own drawings! Walt Disney Animating The rest of Rafiki’s Planet Watch looks about the same as it used to be. Including the petting zoo opportunity! So there’s plenty to do here, and it’s still the perfect place for a parent-and-toddler getaway, or to escape the crowds for a bit. And now — you can try your hand at animation as well! What do you think about the return of the Animation Experience? Let us know in the comments below! Related posts: News: Tiffins Prix Fixe Menus! Plus: Review of Two New Eats in Pandora! Our celebration of Disney’s “The Lion King” continues this weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort with a special opportunity we think you’ll enjoy. On Saturday, the voices of young Simba and young Nala – JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph – will be honorary Grand Marshals for the 3 p.m. Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom Park. Following the parade, JD and Shahadi will continue celebrating at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – which is commemorating the release of the new film and the 25th anniversary of the original animated classic. At the park, we have a whole pride of summer entertainment, eats and treats and new items honoring some of your favorite characters and moments from “The Lion King.” Disney’s Animal Kingdom also has a special tie to the new film. The movie’s production team spent six weeks at the theme park researching naturalistic backdrops that helped inspire scenes from the movie. If you haven’t seen the film trailer, Disney’s “The Lion King,” directed by Jon Favreau, journeys to the African savanna where a future king must overcome betrayal and tragedy to assume his rightful place on Pride Rock. Along with JD and Shahadi, the all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. Join us this Saturday afternoon at Magic Kingdom Park for the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade and then go see Disney’s “The Lion King” in theaters July 19. Also, Disney’s “The Lion King” original motion picture soundtrack is now available. View the full article

One sure way to feel like you’re on vacation is dining poolside – the cool breezes, the California sunshine, beautiful blue water, a stunning setting and an amazing menu. That’s what you’ll find at the new GCH Craftsman Bar at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at the Disneyland Resort. This gorgeous new poolside lounge is open to all guests,* so you can be on vacation almost anytime you’d like! Disney’s Grand Californian’s hotel design is inspired by the Gamble House in Pasadena and GCH Craftsman Bar continues this story by embracing many of the unique Arts & Crafts details and materials. The signature clinker brick, stone columns and shady trellis set the stage for al fresco dining amid plush, residential-style patio seating. The venue’s structure is inspired by the Gamble House’s original garage and current book store with its exposed rafters, shingled walls and wood accents. Throughout the lounge, you’ll notice the motif of wisteria vines and blooms, a prominent design element in the Arts & Crafts movement, which is a symbol of welcoming and good luck. The Craftsman Bar celebrates this lovely, delicate vine on the light fixtures, the trellis and many of the artisan-crafted elements around the bar. A custom tile mural features a wisteria vine that was hand-carved and glazed by a local artisan in Pasadena. The Craftsman Bar marquee is a mix of stained glass, metal and wood, with the wisteria vine seamlessly woven across these multiple materials. The new pool gate, made by the same artisan who originally created the Sun Gate, the Moon Gate and the Arbor Gate when the hotel opened, has created the Meadow Gate featuring a variety of creatures, celebrating nature in California, including a quail, butterfly, honey bee, grasshopper and ladybugs. Previously on the Disney Parks Blog, we shared the wonderfully delicious menu selections! A few highlights are the shareable dishes, such as Double-Baked Beef Nachos, the Maine Lobster Quesadilla, the Black Truffle-Charred Cauliflower Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Artisanal Pizzas and Shawarma Chicken Skewers. The kids’ meals have six different choices little ones are sure to love. Which dessert? Try them all! A Root Beer Float, the Waffle Churro Sundae and the Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie Fingers are all sweet-tooth satisfiers. Over at the bar, enjoy a signature cocktail, California wine or local craft beer. Innovative, garden-inspired drinks garnished with fresh fruit and herbs include the Craftsman Garden Cocktail, the Prickly Pear Rose, the Pineapple Ginger Margarita and the Kombucha Cocktail. Nearby, White Water Snacks has been renamed GCH Craftsman Grill. Nourish your appetite throughout the day with a hearty array of selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you’re in a hurry to get back to the parks, consider this restaurant’s grab ‘n’ go fare, such as beverages, salads, snacks and sweets. The GCH Craftsman Bar & Grill are both located in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and ready for your next visit. See you there soon! *The GCH Craftsman Bar & Grill are open to the public. The hotel’s pool area is available only to resort guests with a designated wristband. View the full article

We’ve got some exciting news to share today with the galaxy. We’re opening Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Dec. 5 at Walt Disney World Resort. If this date sounds familiar, many of our fans will recognize it as Walt Disney’s birthday. What better way to honor the ultimate storyteller than by introducing the most immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined in a Disney Park. When it opens, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will blur the lines between fantasy and reality and will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will be recruited to join Rey and General Organa at a secret base. Along the way, they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base, and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren. As soon as work is completed at Walt Disney World, Imagineers will head back to California to complete their mission at Disneyland Resort where Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will open on Friday, Jan. 17. Between now and then, we’ll have lots more to share about this immersive, multi-platform experience so keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for updates. View the full article

China Booth at the Food & Wine Festival We can’t wait to sip on this new drink when the Festival opens! What a fun way to celebrate the Year of the Pig! The next stop on the crawl also features a drink but it’s a weird one. You’ve been warned. Booth 5: Flavors From Fire At Flavors From Fire you’ll find the Swine Brine. This concoction features Jim Beam Bourbon, Dijon mustard, apple cider, lemon juice, and a whole piggy wing (because why NOT?). Swine Brine at Flavors From Fire This drink earned a spot on our Best of the Fest a couple of years ago — under the header of “weird and interesting” — and honestly it’s not THAT bad, tasting primarily like apple cider and bourbon and not much like mustard or lemon juice…or pork (thankfully). Once you’ve survived the Swine Brine you’ve got two more booths to hit up — and we promise no more weird drinks are involved. Booth 6: Italy Stop in Italy for the new-for-2019 dish Ravioli Carbonara: Parmesan and Pecorino Ravioli, Egg Yolk, Cream, and Bacon! Italy Booth at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Ravioli Carbonara — cheese ravioli and bacon!! — sounds amazing and we can’t wait to try it when the Festival opens! And finally, the “This Little Piggy” Crawl ends in Mexico with a new taco dish! Booth 7: Mexico You’ll end your bacon-and-pork-filled quest in Mexico noshing on the new-for-2019 Taco de Puerco: Shredded Pork Belly on a Corn Tortilla with Salsa Verde. Mexico Booth at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Shredded Pork Belly in a taco? Sí por favor! Add to this our list of dishes we can’t wait to eat at this year’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival. As Walt Disney World prepares to begin a new chapter in mass transportation with the advent of its Skyliner gondola system, Skyliner stations are starting to emerge from behind construction walls. Today we’re bringing you a look at Hourglass Lake station at Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts! Skyliner Station Restroom at Art of Animation Construction fencing around the Station’s restrooms has come down, revealing details about the new addition. The design is simple, featuring bright yellow posts and a blue awning. Skyliner Station Restroom The awning is reminiscent of a page turning in a sketchbook (or maybe that’s just our imaginations playing with the Art of Animation theme!). In any case, we think it’s cute! Skyliner Station Restroom Construction cones continue to block entry to the restrooms, and “Not in Service” signs are taped up beside each door. There are two entrances for restrooms, each with a unisex bathroom sign. This seems to indicate that these are single-occupant toilets, not multi-stall arrangements. We’ll have to wait to confirm this when the restrooms open. Skyliner Station Restroom A custodial closet is also built into the structure as well as two water fountains. (No bottle fillers here, unfortunately!) Skyliner Station Restroom Looking back toward Art of Animation Resort from Generation Gap Bridge (and the Skyliner Station), this is the view. View from Station The Skyliner station itself is still a work in progress, and some construction walls are still up. Skyliner Station from Art of Animation The Station features the same yellow and blue color scheme as the restrooms as well as an even larger ‘page’ awning. Skyliner Station On our visit this morning, a crew of construction workers was suited up to keep making headway on the Station. Work in Progress Work in Progress We spied two gondolas in station, including a Mrs. Potts and Chip cabin! (Just a sec — adding this to our bucket list…) Gondolas in Station This angle on the Station from the Art of Animation side gives us some perspective on the height of those towers and just how far you’ll be sailing over Hourglass Lake! Skyliner Station Over on the Pop Century side, it’s more of the same. The Station stands at the ready. View from Pop Century We’ll keep watch as construction wraps up on the Skyliner stations throughout Walt Disney World Resort and testing continues on the lines. We still don’t have an official start date for the new transportation system, but Disney expected cast members to begin rides as soon as August. And that means they’ll be plenty to see in coming weeks — and we’ll keep our eyes on the skies for ya! Take a look INSIDE a Skyliner gondola here! What do you think? Those of you that visited Disney Springs last holiday season probably came across new gourmet cotton candy offerings inside the Christmas Tree Trail. Our cast members were serving up fresh, made-to-order cotton candy on the spot including favorite holiday flavors like Candy Cane, Eggnog, and Gingerbread Man. Today, I’m happy to share that this popular new snack is here to stay all year long at Goofy’s Candy Co. at Disney Springs! The best part? You don’t have to wait until the holidays to indulge again. You’ll still find holiday flavors on the menu plus new summer additions including: Sweet Mesquite, Root Beer, Sour Apple, Strawberry Banana and Key Lime. Ordering is as simple as 1,2,3! Simply step inside Goofy’s Candy Co. to the cotton candy making station (you’ll spot it in the back corner behind the candy-making area.) Order your favorite gourmet cotton candy flavor and watch as it’s made right in front of you. Indulge in fluffy deliciousness. (Don’t forget to snap a photo before your first bite!) If you’re looking for something to beat the summer heat, Goofy’s Glaciers continue to be a guest favorite with over 7 flavors to choose from. (Mixing and matching is encouraged!) Try the “Goofy Glacier Apple,” “Orange You Happy Orange” and “Powerade® Mountain Blast” combination to create a glacier that matches Goofy’s signature colors. Guests 21 and older can indulge in the new Frozen Glaciers featuring your choice of Vodka, Rum, Whiskey, or Tequila for an additional cost. If you’re the ultimate Disney foodie, be sure to check out the newest phone case design from Otterbox for iPhone X or Xs. This trendy new case features artwork from the Disney D-Lish merchandise collection and includes an integrated Popsocket. (Perfect for selfies!) You can find this case at D-Tech on Demand at Marketplace Co-Op just a short walk away from Goofy’s Candy Co. Have you tried any of the new cotton candy flavors or glaciers yet? If so, I’d love to hear which one is your favorite. Share your photos of your snacking adventures using #DisneySprings. View the full article

We love heading to White Water Snacks each month to grab the Hot Dog of the Month. White Water Snacks And with fun options like the Jalapeño Pop-Dog and the Mini Corn Dog Nachos, we are always excited to see what the location will come up with next! (Oh, and by the way, the White Water Snacks sign is gone, now. See why a little later in the post!) But this time White Water Snacks has taken the Hot Dog of the Month to a whole new level with their Street Corn Dog. Oh yeah, this month’s hot dog is a corn dog, folks, and it’s pretty darn good. Street Corn Dog The Street Corn Dog is smothered in garlic aioli, crema, roasted corn relish, queso fresco, and tajin. It’s also served with a jalapeno and a lime in case you need to add a little more flavor power! Street Corn Dog The corn relish and garlic aioli presented interesting flavors with the corn dog that we really enjoyed! Though we loved the flavors, we actually ended up being a bit bummed, because after taking two bites all of the toppings FELL OFF. This meant that we were left with a boring average corn dog! So…maybe a fork and a knife is the way to tackle this corn dog. Street Corn Dog You can find this at White Water Snacks — which is getting a name change any day now — for $10.00! It’ll end up being $9.16 if you’re using an Annual Passholder discount. (: Street Corn Dog Overall, we think that it’s a yummy option and a great portion size for the price. Have you tried it yet? Have you always dreamed of ruling the jungle? Are you having an internal panic attack because you just can’t wait to see the new live-action Lion King film? Uniqlo Lion King Collection Well, then you have see the new Lion King merchandise that has recently roared into Disney Springs. This is not only the year that the new Lion King film hits theatres, but it’s also The Lion King’s 25th Anniversary. And to celebrate, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is decorated with a bunch of bright Lion King decor. They are also raising money to help save the Lions through the Disney Conservation Fund — you can read more about those efforts here! Celebrating The Lion King The Lion King celebration continues at Disney Springs in one of my favorite stores — Uniqlo. The store, which sells really cute Disney tees for a much cheaper price than you will find inside the parks, has recently debuted a new Lion King collection. Adult T-Shirts There are a few different adult unisex t-shirts to choose from. Lion King Collection Many of the versions like the tee seen below come in kids’ sizes as well! So, you and your little lion can match as you go on a safari through the parks. Lion King Collection We’re digging this shirt that commemorates the iconic scene between Simba and Mufasa. We cannot wait to relive this tear-jerking moment once the live-action film hits theatres. Lion King Collection We’ve got no worries with the Hakuna Matata pocket tee! Lion King Collection Show your Scar love with the “I am King, I can do whatever I want” tee. Lion King Collection I think I need to buy all of these, so I can wear one each day leading up to the live-action Lion King film. Just a few more days, people! Lion King Collection Kiddo T-Shirts The kids’ tees have a few of the same design options as seen above. Lion King Collection But, many of them are in different colors! Lion King Collection We love this tee because mom or dad can rock the Mufasa version, while their little one wears the Simba tee. Lion King Collection Lion King Collection And finally, there’s a tee with our girl Nala on it. Every time I see this scene I can’t help but think of Mickey’s PhilharMagic. Lion King Collection The adult tees are $14.99 and the kiddo tees are $9.99. Which design is your favorite? And if you’re looking for more Lion King fun, make sure you take a peek at the links below! Bright Suns everyone! As the crowds remain shockingly low at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, it seems as if a few cuts or changes are on their way. Millennium Falcon The first to go, the Bright Suns Morning breakfast plate… According to Disneyland’s Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo menu, the Bright Suns Morning breakfast plate is no longer available Monday – Thursday. The menu notes that guests should visit the location for additional breakfast offerings Friday through Sunday, so it may pop up again over the weekend! Docking Bay 7 Menu Changes The dish features eggs (or…egg ball…as the case may be), sausage, purple potato hash, and a mini Mustafarian Lava Roll. Bright Suns Morning But the adult portion of the offering wasn’t the only thing to be cut from the weekday menu as the Bright Suns Youngling Breakfast is missing too! The youngling breakfast is a smaller portion of the dish, minus the sausage. We’re pretty bummed about this change because this was one of the best and heartiest offerings when it came to Galaxy’s Edge breakfast. You can read our full Bright Suns Morning review here! Bright Suns Younglings Breakfast This is also an interesting change because there is no longer a kids’ meal breakfast option Mondays – Thursdays at Docking Bay 7. Now, for those heading to Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in just about a month and a half — note that the breakfast option DOES show up on Walt Disney World’s Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo menu. For now. Be sure to check out our entire Disneyland Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo review here. We aren’t sure if or how long this change will stick around. The beloved Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland park celebrates 50 years of happy haunts this August. To add to the frightful fun, check out the new exhibit at the Disney Gallery: “Happy Haunts Materialize.” The exhibit gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the concept state of the Haunted Mansion. This “ghoul-ery” displays very early sketches and sculptures of the Haunted Mansion concept and shares how they evolved into what you experience today. Designs featuring original ideas for the Haunted Mansion line the walls, including concepts for the walk-through attraction that the Haunted Mansion was going to be. As you continue through the gallery, you’ll come across ideas that were never used, but inspired the Haunted Mansion that we know and love today. Among them are art portraits originally designed for the Portrait Hallway in the attraction. The portraits feature Dracula and Daphne from the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo. Much like their counterparts in the attraction, these portraits were also designed to change appearance. In the center of the exhibit, you can see the figures that were created as models for the actual ghosts and ghouls we see in the attraction today. Seeing these happy haunts out of their phantom state may give you a fright! Continue your celebration with the grim grinning ghosts at a special after-hours event for the Haunted Mansion. In August, “The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving” invites you to gather at 13th hour where Madame Leota will make a special appearance to conjure up the happy haunting. At this separate ticket event, enjoy themed food and beverages, after-hours access to select attractions in New Orleans Square and Critter Country, special estate merchandise, photo opportunities and lively entertainment featuring musicians, dancers and performers from beyond the grave. Learn more about the event, details and pricing, including how to purchase tickets here. Celebrate 50 years of spook-tacular fun with the Haunted Mansion at the Disneyland Resort. Come for a fright, stay for the delight! View the full article
