Star Wars seems to be all the talk lately with the soon to be opening of Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios and the mega announcement of the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening dates for both Disney World and Disneyland. And following suit, it seems as if a popular Star Wars overlay might be sticking around a bit longer than expected. ©Disney It’s no surprise that guests love Hyperspace Mountain in Disneyland. This Star Wars-themed overlay allows guests in Disneyland to be a part of the Star Wars universe in a unique way as they fend off crossfire from starfighters and TIE fighters. This overlay returned to the park on May 4th and was suspected to stick around through the end of the Summer. Now, according to the Orange County Register, it seems as if the overlay is here to stay through Disneyland’s spooky season. The OCR states, “that means Space Mountain won’t get the Ghost Galaxy ride overlay this Halloween season.” Currently, there are no times listed on the Disneyland website for Hyperspace Mountain beyond August 22nd. So, hopefully, the times will be updated soon to reflect this change! But nothing is confirmed until announced by Disney, so stay tuned! We’re about 7 weeks out until we can wine and dine at Epcot’s 2019 Food and Wine Festival, you guys! 2019 Festival Map And, while we have the menus for the featured stations, the booth set-ups are just now being set up around the World Showcase. We’re so close, we can almost taste it! So far, we have seen four fan favorites (and some of ours too!) currently set up. Japan Booth Japan, our first stop, is the home again this year of the Teriyaki Chicken Bun. The steamed bun filled with chicken, vegetables, and a sweet teriyaki sauce was packed with flavor at the last Food and Wine Festival. We can’t WAIT to try it again! Front of the Japan Booth As we make our way over to the next booth, China is kicking back into action this year with the Kung Fu Punch. China Booth Mixed with vodka, triple sec, mango syrup, and orange juice, we seriously thought this was one of the tastiest (and strongest) drinks featured on the map. Front of the China Booth One deep inhale, and you know you’re at the Morocco booth with the incredible smells. Morocco Booth We’re ready to go to chocolate heaven with the Chocolate Baklava made of rolled phyllo dough, toasted almonds, and dark chocolate sauce. Front of the Morocco Booth We also spotted the L’Chaim! Holiday Kitchen booth on the promenade, which hasn’t yet been re-dressed as the Brazil booth for the festival! This year, our favorites — the Pork Belly and the Cheese Bread — will be back again! L’Chaim Booth And remember that Flavors From Fire made an appearance last week over there in Future World! This is where you can get my BELOVED SMOKED CORN BEEF CHIP NACHO THINGS! (Oh, they are SO good.) Flavors from Fire Booth Visible The booth construction makes the upcoming start of the 2019 Food and Wine Festival that much sweeter. See you there! What booth are you looking forward to the most this year? Let us know in the comments below! Related posts: Join Us on the Cookie Stroll at Epcot’s International Festival of the Holidays! The planet of Batuu is bustling with creatures and aliens that serve integral roles within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Find exotic creatures in the merchant stall or encounter aliens running their own businesses. As you journey through the land, you may come across these creatures and aliens along the way: Dok-Ondar In Batuu, Dok-Ondar is the proprietor of a unique intergalactic curiosities shop, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. He is an alien hailing from the planet Ithor. When visiting his collection, be prepared to see a variety of oddities, from taxidermic creatures to holocrons and more. Some travelers know him as the “gatekeeper” of the black market in Black Spire Outpost, so try not to cross him! While taking inventory, he is known to order his assistants around between incoming calls. Ollopom Sometimes mistaken for plants, ollopoms are gentle aquatic rodents found in the Gungan swamps of the planet Naboo. Naboo is the home planet of Padmé Amidala, as well as the Gungan Jar Jar Binks from “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” You can find one of these fascinating creatures of disguise, Ollie the ollopom, bobbing in the water when visiting Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Ollie was a gift from Hondo, who found it in an unmarked cargo. Sarlacc This infant sarlacc, named Simpi, may seem adorable to some, but this creature is the same type of carnivorous giant seen in the sand pit in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.” Growing up to 100 meters long, the massive mouth of these sarlaccs can turn someone’s good day to bad if swallowed whole! Dok-Ondar keeps this little sarlacc (procured by none other than Han Solo and Chewbacca as told in the Marvel Star Wars comic series Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge) in a special tank that simulates arid atmospheric conditions. Hondo Ohnaka For visitors that remember “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels” animated series, Hondo Ohnaka is the infamous Weequay pirate turned “legitimate” businessman that may or may not serve as a smuggler now on Batuu. When boarding the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, you’ll encounter Hondo instructing new recruits on his mission to deliver coaxium, which is of importance to both the First Order and the Resistance. If you decide to deliver the restricted items for his business, Ohnaka Transport Solutions, don’t expect any of the profits! Wampa Wampas are accustomed to the cold weather on the planet Hoth. These carnivorous creatures are covered in white fur, horns and claws for survival. You may remember seeing an encounter with one during Luke Skywalker’s Hoth adventure in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” Thankfully on Batuu, Dok-Ondar has secured a taxidermic wampa for spectators to admire, as well as other taxidermic creatures on the wall. This prized possession is worth a look when you visit Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. Dianoga Dianogas are slimy, tentacled carnivores that thrive in dark hiding places. For visitors that remember “Star Wars: A New Hope,” a Dianoga attacked Luke Skywalker in the Death Star trash compactor. Now, you can spot two hiding on Batuu. Next time you stop to drink at the water fountain in the Black Spire Outpost marketplace, check to see if the eye of “Tiny” pops out of the water tank above. If you want to see a juvenile known as “Toothy” in Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, peek inside the tank and see it up close! Worrt An adoptable creature is the frog-like worrt found at the Creature Stall in the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace. This carnivorous amphibian is a native to the planet of Tatooine, famously seen outside Jabba the Hutt’s palace in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.” Be careful of its powerful tongue, as it snatches unsuspecting rodents and insects on the way! If you stop by Oga’s Cantina, you can also spot a worrt in one of the amphibian tanks. There is a plethora of other fascinating inhabitants to be found on Batuu, so keep an eye out during your next visit to Batuu. View the full article

Kona Island at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort seems to have a deep craving for bacon lately. Candied Bacon First, they introduced three flavors of chocolate-covered bacon and now we have spotted a Bacon Chocolate-covered STRAWBERRY! Seems like a strange combo, right? Bacon-covered Strawberry Well, it sorta was and it sorta wasn’t at the same time. When taking a bite, you’d either taste strawberry OR bacon. We never really felt as if you could taste both at the same time even if they were in the same bite. Bacon-covered Strawberry The chocolate honestly was forgotten as it was so overpowered by the salty bacon. Bacon-covered Strawberry Speaking of overpowering, that bacon was definitely the most powerful flavor to us. Bacon-covered Strawberry So, yeah, it’s a fun and interestingly strange idea. But sadly, it didn’t really work for us! If you’re looking for other bacon options, we suggest trying out the chocolate-covered bacon instead. Bacon-covered Strawberry The strawberry is listed as a seasonal treat at Kona Island and will cost ya $4. And sadly, this is not a Disney Dining Plan snack credit option. And as far as other strawberry options, there are plenty of choices at Kona Island — read about them here! What do you think about this strange treat option? Let us know in the comments below! For those of you who loved the Reese’s Pieces Cupcake from Beach Club, we’re happy to announce that the Goofy Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake that replaced it a while back is a great and similar option. Disney’s Beach Club Resort Though the Goofy Cupcake has been around for a while, we thought it deserved a full review! The previous Reese’s Pieces cupcake sold at the Marketplace was a good dessert in a pinch. And over the years we got a bit attached to it! But when it disappeared, the Goofy Cupcake came in and basically serves as the Reese’s Pieces Cupcake’s replacement. Reese’s Pieces Cupcake For starters, we think that the Goofy Cupcake is a much cuter version of the Reese’s Cupcake that came before it. And we think Disney has done a great job with the fondant Goofy ears and the white chocolate hat. Goofy Peanut Butter Cupcake For flavor and texture — Goofy scores points. This cupcake was much moister than its Reese’s counterpart in our experience. Goofy Peanut Butter Cupcake We were a bit disappointed that there was no filling, but we were BIG fans of the bright orange peanut butter buttercream. We thought that the flavors were super simple and really delicious. Goofy Peanut Butter Cupcake So, the major differences between the two was the consistency and the look. Peanut butter fans will be happy with this one as well. Goofy Peanut Butter Cupcake You can find the Goofy Cupcake at the Marketplace locations at both the Yacht and Beach Club for $5.99. It can also be purchased with a Disney Dining Plan snack credit!! Love Disney Cupcakes? Check out our 2019 Disney Cupcake Crawl CHALLENGE! As part of our commitment to inspire the next generation of maritime professionals, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of students onboard the Disney Dream from the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps when the ship was docked in Nassau recently. The timing of the tour could not have been more perfect since it fell on “Day of the Seafarer,” which is celebrated annually on June 25, and recognizes the unique contributions made by seafarers from all over the world. The Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps is a program instituted under the Bahamas Maritime Authority to introduce and prepare high school students for employment in the maritime industry. While onboard the students explored the ship’s engine room, toured the bridge, went behind-the-scenes of The Walt Disney Theater and participated in a panel discussion with the ship’s captain, Andy McRonald, along with other senior officers. Captain Andy shared with us that he could not think of a better way to celebrate the day then touring this energetic group of aspiring maritime professionals onboard and giving them a glimpse into the world of cruise ship operations. Take a look at their day: This tour is a part of Disney Cruise Line initiatives focused on inspiring youth to pursue maritime careers. Most recently, Disney Cruise Line also announced that it will sponsor four scholarships at the LJM Maritime Academy for female cadets aspiring to become ship captains and shipboard leaders. The scholarships, one for each of the ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, will include tuition to the three-year program – two years of study at the academy and one year of service aboard a Disney ship. Other programs include the debut of Captain Minnie Mouse who will make the rounds on all Disney ships and visit port communities including those in The Bahamas. Later this year, Captain Minnie Mouse will also appear in an all-new, onboard youth activity being developed for Disney Cruise Line ships where young captain hopefuls will practice STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills in a fun, interactive marine-themed activity. Early mornings and late nights in Magic Kingdom may get 10x easier for Grand Floridian and Polynesian Village Resort guests! Cinderella Castle There is so much construction going on around Disney World right now. From the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Skyliner Gondola System, the parks are going all out to make travel much more convenient for guests as the 50th anniversary approaches for Walt Disney World. And now there may be another convenience in the works that we’ve been hoping for for a LONG time… . A recent permit filed under the Florida State Department seems to indicate that a walkway may be built between the Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom at some point. Or at least Disney World is laying the groundwork, so to speak, to allow for one to exist. The Grand Floridian Since there is already a walkway between the Polynesian Village Resort and the Grand Floridian, this would mean that Polynesian Village Resort guests would also have walking access to the Magic Kingdom from their resort hotel. And while there is a monorail system station at both resorts — and boats are available to and from the Magic Kingdom from both the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian — with this potential walkway, guests would be able to walk straight from their rooms to the Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours or take a stroll back after fireworks on the walkway, avoiding the lines and crowds at the monorail and boat boarding stations. Polynesian Village Resort Currently, only Disney’s Contemporary Resort has direct walking access to the Magic Kingdom, so this is an exciting and long-awaited development if it turns out to come to pass. Our fingers are crossed! Are you excited as we are about the Grand Floridian walkway? Let us know in the comments below! NASSAU, BAHAMAS (July 12, 2019) – As part of Disney Cruise Line’s commitment to inspire the next generation of maritime professionals, Disney Dream shipboard officers hosted a group of students onboard from the Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps (BMCC) while the ship was docked in Nassau. The International Maritime Organization’s “Day of the Seafarer” is celebrated annually on June 25 and recognizes the unique contributions made by seafarers from all over the world. During the tour, the students explored the ship’s engine room, toured the bridge, went behind-the-scenes of The Walt Disney Theater and participated in a panel discussion with the ship’s captain, Andy McRonald, along with other senior officers. “I could not think of a better way to celebrate Day of the Seafarer than with this energetic group of aspiring maritime professionals,” said Disney Dream Captain Andy McRonald. “It’s an honor to contribute to the future of the industry and offer Bahamian students a glimpse into the world of cruise ship operations.” The BMCC is a program instituted under the Bahamas Maritime Authority to introduce and prepare high school students for employment in the maritime industry. “The Bahamas and Disney share over two decades of a close relationship in the maritime sector,” said Captain Dwain Hutchinson, Bahamas Maritime Authority managing director and CEO. “We thank Disney Cruise Line for participating in the BMA’s vision of introducing young Bahamians to this key global sector.” The BMCC tour is a part of Disney Cruise Line initiatives focused on inspiring youth to pursue maritime careers. ### View the full article

When guests visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, now open at Disneyland Resort, they can experience everything from out-of-this-world galactic treats to thrilling flights on the iconic Millennium Falcon, and even mingle with local Batuuan residents! These residents bring the land to life and selecting our cast members to fill those roles was a crucial element, one that was led by General Manager of Disneyland Park, Kappy Thorsen. We’re eager to share Kappy’s Disney journey and her work that helped bring the land to life in this installment of #WomenBehindtheMagic! Kappy leads cast members and teams across the Disneyland Resort to create exciting experiences for guests each and every day. One of her most recent experiences even took her to a galaxy far, far away as Kappy spent the last two years preparing for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But before she started helping create the planet Batuu, Kappy grew up working for her family at Roaring Camp Railroads, a historic tourist railroad in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Whether she was scooping ice cream, selling tickets, or helping to clean restrooms, she “did it all” and took great pride in being a part of the family business. In fact, it was working with her family’s business that first sparked her interest in theme park operations. Each year, Kappy and her family would make the more than six-hour drive to visit the Disneyland Resort – a place Kappy knew she always wanted to work ever since she was a child. “Working for Disney has always been a dream of mine,” she shared. “My father was inspired by Disneyland – he was creative, artistic, and had an entrepreneurial spirit. I tried to emulate him from a very young age.” Heavily influenced by her parents and love of art, design and business, Kappy earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from San Jose State University. Upon graduation, she planned on applying for Disneyland in one of these fields. However, her father unexpectedly passed away, and her mother took over the family business which instantly changed Kappy’s path. “I put my Disney dream on hold to assist my family. I watched my mom become an influential female business leader in the community,” she reflected. More than a decade later, Kappy returned to pursuing her Disney dream. She applied for and accepted her first role at Disneyland park as the assistant manager responsible for the iconic steam trains. As she began this role Kappy was inspired by her mother’s leadership, something she continues to be motivated by today. “I often refer to my mom as my ‘hero’ because of her great courage, outstanding business achievements and character,” she says. “I would not be where I am today without her as my role model.” In her 20 year Disney career, Kappy has had various opportunities to advance her career across the resort, including attractions, guest relations, main entrance, transportation and parking, line of business, food and beverage, custodial and retail. “Each role taught me something new and challenged me in different ways, which prepared me for today. Every day is an adventure,” she shared. One of her biggest adventures to date was her role in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. A lot of coordination, preparation and partnerships were required to open a land of this scale. Preparing leaders and cast members for their new roles as citizens of Batuu was a monumental undertaking for the operations team and countless partners, of which she is very proud. Her days preparing for the opening of the land were often varied with different responsibilities. Regardless of the projects, one element always remained the same, interacting with cast members – the most rewarding part of her day. “Our cast’s dedication, passion and love of the Disney brand and Star Wars franchise is contagious,” she says. “They put everything into creating magic for our guests, which is amazing to watch! When visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests can interact with cast members in a whole new way – learn their stories, explore and play throughout the land like never before.” For Kappy seeing our cast members fully immersed in the story, interacting with the guests, was quite a memorable moment. “It was an emotional experience on many levels,” she explained. “My team and I helped bring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life for our guests. A dream job come true.” Kappy is one of the many women making magic for Disney guests and fans around the world. Guests can meet the citizens of Batuu when they visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge now open at Disneyland Resort. Stay tuned for next week’s installment in our #WomenBehindtheMagic series as we share more stories of the amazing women who helped make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge a reality! View the full article

One of my favorite things to do at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition and watch guests react with awe and excitement when they see lions. There is so much to admire about these majestic creatures so I’m thrilled to share our newest edition of the “Caring for Disney Animals” video series is all about African lions presented by Lori, an animal care expert on our team who is eager to share what makes these animals unique. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’re helping to care for and protect lions each and every day. It’s a great time to learn more about the pride at our park as we gear up for Disney’s groundbreaking new film, “The Lion King“ on July 19 and The Lion King “Protect the Pride” campaign. Did you know lions and other wildlife across Africa are facing a crisis? Since the release of the original animated version of “The Lion King” 25 years ago, Africa has lost half of its lions, and only about 20,000 remains. Disney is taking action to “Protect the Pride” and support the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) in hopes of doubling the number of lions in the wild by 2050. You can help “Protect the Pride” too – gather your friends and family and come visit the lions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. For every guest who rides the Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida during opening week of “The Lion King” film (July 19 – 25, 2019), Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2 (up to $350,000) to WCN’s LRF’s efforts to help double the number of lions across Africa by 2050. Theme park admission is required. For more information, visit Disney.com/LionKingProtectThePride. I can’t wait to see you out on the savanna! As I took my seat in the movie theater a few weeks ago to see “Toy Story 4,” I had one burning question. It wasn’t about the enigma that is Forky, or how Bo Peep and Woody would (finally!) be reunited, it was about Billy, Goat and Gruff. That’s right. Those fluffy sheep that shared a lamp with Bo Peep were all I could think about! Are they a three-headed sheep or three sheep molded together in porcelain? Have they had names this whole time? And finally, what happened to them? I’m sure plenty of you are familiar with the “Little Bo Peep” nursery rhyme, and my greatest fear was that our beloved Bo Peep would lose her sheep. Luckily, you can find these three fleecy girls all over “Toy Story 4” merchandise, and now, on a very special Disney Gift Card. This summer offering is available only throughout Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. The design features Billy, Goat, and Gruff, the unsung heroines of one of my favorite franchises, now adorned with stickers to reinforce their delicate porcelain as they perform not-so-delicate stunts all over the carnival grounds. And because nothing is too good for these sheep, the stars on our Disney Gift Card are treated with glitter so they sparkle in the sun! Activate with as little as $15 and use to pay for practically all things Disney! Perhaps you want to give your little ones (or yourself!) a budget; a Disney Gift Card gives them the freedom to pay for that “Toy Story 4” plush or cool summer treat they want, while giving them a keepsake of their trip! If the young ones (or the young at heart) have money left on the card at the end of your trip, no worries! A Disney Gift Card can hold up to $1,000 and never expire, so feel free to use your remaining balance to shop at a Disney store near you, on shopDisney.com, or save your Disney Gift Card until your next Disney Parks vacation! In our Disney Doodles series, artists imagine what different Disney characters would do or see if they had the chance to visit a Disney park. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines that Baymax from “Big Hero 6” would head to Tomorrowland for a relaxing ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover during a visit to Magic Kingdom Park. “Baymax is not fast. So the Tomorrowland Transit Authority feels like the perfect attraction for him to get around in a comfortable way!” Ashley said. View the full article
