NEWS: 60-Day Rabies Alert Issued at Disney World
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
There’s some big health news that you need to be aware of if you’re headed to Disney World in the next two months. Epcot Entrance According to Orange County Florida Health, “The Florida Department of Health in Orange County is issuing a 60-day rabies alert for a two (2) mile radius around the intersection of Interstate 4 and Epcot Center Drive in southwest Orange County.” This alert was issued yesterday, June 8th, after a feral cat tested positive for the disease. Since this cat may have been in contact with other animals, the Florida Department of Health recommends avoiding contact with feral cats, stray dogs, and other wildlife while in this area. So, make sure to be on the lookout for you and your furry friends as well. Source: orange.floridahealth.gov Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox. The Disneyland Resort is the ultimate vacation destination this summer. If you visit Disneyland park, here are 10 not-to-miss experiences: 1. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – The largest single-themed land expansion in Disney Parks history, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now open, with new experiences for you to live your own Star Wars adventure. While you immerse yourself in the remote planet of Batuu, sample galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Disneyland is utilizing a virtual queueing system for the new land, as needed, to allow guests to enjoy the rest of the resort until it is their time to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.* More information can be found on Disneyland.com. 2. Daytime Parades – The popular “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” puts music in motion with Disney characters, performers and two new parade floats, which debuted earlier this year. Catch this fan-favorite before its run ends on July 17. Starting July 18 through August 1, Mickey Mouse and his friends are joining the world-famous Disneyland Band for special performances of “Mickey and Friends Band-Tastic Cavalcade.” This delightful procession with live music and a host of favorite Disney characters also features colorfully adorned Main Street, U.S.A. vehicles and special show moments where guests can dance and clap along with their fantastic friends. 3. Main Street Electrical Parade – The beloved Main Street Electrical Parade returns to Disneyland Park Aug. 2, for a limited time. This spectacular pageant of nighttime magic and imagination will bring guests of multiple generations a sense of wonder, joy and – for some – warm nostalgia as it travels down Main Street, U.S.A., through Sept. 30. 4. Splash Mountain – Take a musical cruise that ends in a thrilling five-story splashdown on a Disneyland park favorite attraction, Splash Mountain. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this summer, this log flume ride first opened for guests on July 17, 1989. 5. Sleeping Beauty Castle – Fresh from an extensive refurbishment, this beloved icon is back and more beautiful than ever, as it shimmers with enhancements, charming pixie dust and new color tones. 6. “Disneyland Forever” – This captivating fireworks spectacular returned in early June, showing just how magical the magic kingdom can be. The sky-high celebration features sparkling pyrotechnics, immersive projections and other effects that transform Disneyland into an enchanting canvas, taking you on a breathtaking journey. 7. Hyperspace Mountain – Hurtle through hyperspace with the return of Hyperspace Mountain. For a limited time this summer, the high-speed Star Wars-themed overlay brings a galactic adventure to Space Mountain. 8. Haunted Mansion – Head to the home of 999 happy haunts for a spooky tour! This beloved attraction is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer. In August, choose to attend one of the “The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving” after-hours events! 9. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – Hop aboard the wildest ride in the wilderness! Located in the heart of Frontierland, this guest-favorite attraction is thrilling, high-speed adventure that takes you past the spires and buttes of the old West and into the tunnels and shafts of a dark and mysterious mine. 10. 64th Anniversary of Disneyland Park – If you’re looking to celebrate 64 years of magic at The Happiest Place On Earth, Disneyland will commemorate its role as the original Disney theme park on July 17 with festivities including “The Happiest March on Earth” with favorite Disney characters and more. Luxo Ball Cupcake And one of our new friends seems to be missing from their star-studded cupcake spot at All-Star Movies Resort. Here’s what the cupcake looked like before! Forky cupcake You can read our full review of the original Forky cupcake here!! It looks as if the cupcake has only received a makeover on the outside, with Forky being replaced by a few more of those super fun hollow white-chocolate Luxo Balls. Whether you’re shopping or dining in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort, you might notice that Mickey Mouse and a few of his favorite pals have popped up along the way! To tell us all about it, we chatted with our Manager of Resort Enhancement, Phil Rahn, who shared more about the inspiration for this darling décor. How did the idea for this overlay come to life? It’s so creative! The Disneyland Resort Enhancement team was inspired by anamorphic art installations as seen in public spaces all over the world. This installation is about fun in the summer sun! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse having a picnic in a park, Donald Duck chasing his hat in the summer breeze, Goofy slipping while eating his ice cream and some fun summer icons. The artwork styling was pulled from the series, “A Mickey Mouse Cartoon.” What went into deciding which characters to choose? And the poses they are in? We decided to celebrate our “Fab 5” as the core characters for this overlay. Mickey Mouse had a big year with his birthday, so we thought it was appropriate to continue celebrating him and his friends. Their poses are inspired by their personalities. Is there a certain spot you recommend to stand, to get the best view of the art? The installation is designed with the spirit of discovery in mind and is meant to be interactive. When you approach the planters, you see elements of each character randomly placed about; but as you shift your perspective, you begin to see the image as a whole. We really want our guests to have fun in search of that discovery moment! For those who have a challenge finding that right perspective, we have “stand here” markers on the ground at each planter. The markers are Mickey Mouse’s shoe print. How many types of plants are used to surround the art? More than 40 different varieties! Each planter brings bright colors and textures to support the scene, such as strong reds and yellows for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, sunflowers for Donald Duck, daisies for Daisy Duck and wild Gomphrena around Goofy. Pluto, Chip and Dale have Lions Tail for height and Carex grasses to play upon the idea of Pluto protecting his yard from the pesky mischief-makers, Chip ‘n Dale. A variety of topiaries were inspired by cartoons, distinctively-shaped in spirals, globes, cones, cubes and pyramids. Can you tell us about the team who put this together? More than 20 Horticulture and Resort Enhancement Cast Members play a part in the design, fabrication, installation and maintenance of the overlay. The revival of leaf planters has changed the face of Horticulture and Resort Enhancement in the Downtown Disney District. It’s brought forward a whole new creative outlet for both of the teams and allowed us to collaborate in wonderful new ways! Each season, the Downtown Disney District surprises and delights visitors with innovative, eye-catching visuals. Keep a look-out this fall, when more even more surprises pop-up in the planters! Guests can “indulge in savory hors d’oeuvres with a taste from the Witches Cauldron—a kettle of gooey and creamy spinach dip with ciabatta crostini, assorted Halloween flatbreads and more.” Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place this year on select nights from November 8 until December 22, and includes the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration, and new holiday fireworks hosted by Minnie Mouse, plus complimentary cookies and hot chocolate! Cinderella Castle at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Of course, Disney fun after dark extends beyond the theme parks. Toledo — Tapas, Steak, & Seafood is Gran Destino Tower’s rooftop restaurant. This Spanish-inspired spot is loaded with style, views, and thoughtful bites and beverages. You can click HERE for a FULL PHOTO TOUR of this exquisite space, and now we’re back with a FULL REVIEW. Toledo — Tapas, Steak, & Seafood This was a LONG dining experience, so settle in for some fun! Atmosphere This elegant space is built to take advantage of the views that sweep over Walt Disney World, with proximate views of Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Whether diners are seated at an interior table or a window-adjacent one, floor-to-ceiling windows are visible from everywhere in the space. Toledo Dining Room Massive windows with arched details allow diners to see for miles — or to see just as far as the nighttime spectaculars at the neighboring Parks if they wish! Cast members describe views from Toledo as being “glimpses” of fireworks; still, we think this unique perspective on the World will be a sought-after experience. Toledo Dining Room In addition to the stunning views, Toledo really brings some style to the table. As is the case with the entire Tower, materials are thoughtfully selected to create dimension, balance, and contrast. Wood and wood-like materials are used in tandem with metal, and curved lines contrast with linear shapes. Seating at Toledo Table settings are simple, detracting not at all from the surrounding design or the views. Though we do think there may be an argument to be made for tablecloths in a higher-end location like this. Seating at Toledo The vast menu, a glass of water, a wine glass, and a candle are utilitarian and not at all fussy. Table Setting Additional silverware is brought to the table in a small earthenware pot, along with small plates for sharing apps and other goodies. We’re wondering if this is supposed to make us think of an artist’s studio, seeing as so much of the new tower is art-inspired? Otherwise, it’s kind of strange. Silverware Presentation We were shown to a window-side table and enjoyed views of Lago Dorado, Three Bridges Bar & Grill, and the World beyond. Seating That view included Disney’s Hollywood Studios, easily recognizable for the Tower of Terror. But we spy with our little eyes: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! What do you think? You want weekly construction updates from Toledo? Okay, if we must. Views of Hollywood Studios As dusk approached, the view changed, with lights now visible on Tower of Terror in the distance. Dusk Views Back inside, two olive trees anchor the interior design, celebrating the history of olive oil production in Spain, which supplies about half of the world’s olive oil. (Fun fact: it’s said that the Phoenicians first brought olive trees to Spain, so if you’re enjoying some EVOO, thank the Phoenicians!) Olive Tree in Toledo Other decor elements at Toledo include grand metal light fixtures that cast light and shadow around the space at night, their shapes alluding to Gaudi’s signature style. Lighting And even with all of this, you won’t be able to help but to look up. The curved ceiling running down the center of the restaurant is vaulted to provide a sense of airiness, but the design is all energy and brightness. Vaulted Ceiling It features a stained glass design similar in spirit to that used in the downstairs Barcelona Lounge, and the colors change here at Toledo, tapping into the potential for light and color to create mood. Toledo Ceiling Changes Color Day or night, this is a piece of evolving art befitting a restaurant infused with 1930s avant-garde. Toledo is glossy, artistic, elegant, and bright — a special place to enjoy dinner atop the entire World. Eats The menu at Toledo features an array of tapas, steak and seafood entrees, and beverages with specialties and ingredients representing the cuisines of Spain. Toledo Menu The Beverage Menu at Toledo features a limited — but quality — selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Beer and Hard Cider include options from Spain, America, and Belgium. Beverage Menu Beverage Menu Cocktails include the Sangria Tinto also offered in Barcelona Lounge and Dahlia Lounge. Beverage Menu Sangria Tinto Fountain soda, iced tea, lemonade, and Zero Proof Cocktails make up the offerings without alcohol. (Is anyone else loving the “zero proof” designations? So fun.) Beverage Menu The wine list at Toledo is extensive, and a large wine storage area is visible from the dining room, too. Wine Fridge Gran Destino Tower celebrates that 80% of its vintages are from Spain, with California wines also being offered. Beverage Menu Beverage Menu Categories of food items on Toledo’s menu include Pintxos (small plates), Cazuela (Spanish for cooking pot and referring to a variety of dishes), House Boards (with cheese and charcuterie), Entrees, Sides, and Desserts. There are also kids’ appetizers (a la carte) and kids’ Create Your Own with both entree options and sides options. Pintxos Our server shared that Pintxos at Toledo are “pinches” or what the French call amuse-bouche: a bite-size portion that packs a big flavor punch. As such, you can try several small bites (rather than small plates, as is typical of tapas) and experience a lot of unique flavor combinations. Cazuelas are designed to capture the spirit of cooking a hearty meal in a pot, and dishes from this section of the menu are served in small terra cotta pots in that tradition. The spirit of these dishes is warm and homey — comfort food, like if grandma made you a pot of chicken noodle soup — only it’s Rioja-braised Chorizo. Cazuelas At an earlier media event, we photographed two of Toledo’s Cazuelas: Charred Octopus and the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers. Plated Dishes at Toledo (from earlier media preview event) These are what we might consider to be tapas-sized dishes, packing bold tastes in a small package — but bigger than the Pintxos! Plated Dishes at Toledo (from earlier media event) Appetizers and Entrees offer variety for food lovers of all persuasions. Appetizers like Heirloom Tomatoes and Romaine Salad play up fresh produce while entrees like Hanger Steak and Scallops showcase proteins. Appetizers and Entrees Sides at Toledo offer some interesting options like Blistered Shishito Peppers and Mediterranean Broccoli. And Desserts celebrate chocolate, coffee, and fruit — sometimes all at once! Sides and Desserts The Kids’ Menu at Toledo is a wild affair, with plenty of activities to keep the kiddos occupied during your meal. Kids’ Menu The menu offers some customization, with kiddos selecting one Entree (including options like Grilled Steak, Sustainable Fish, and a Beef and Mushroom Blend burger) and two Selections (Roasted Whole Carrots, Macaroni & Cheese, Chocolate Pudding, etc.). Be sure to speak up if your kids have special requests (like if they really wanted chicken nuggets, which aren’t available, but would settle for mac and cheese as their entree instead); there’s no guarantee the restaurant can accommodate, but we know they typically try! Kids’ Menu The inside of the kids’ menu features games with a Descendants theme. Inside that Kids’ Menu Yeah, it’s a lot. We began our meal with two colorful, inspired appetizers: Heirloom Tomatoes and Savory Churros. Heirloom Tomatoes and Savory Churros As promised, Heirloom Tomatoes highlights this artisanal food — those heritage tomatoes that have not been cross-pollinated and that maintain historic flavor, shape, and color. Here, they’re celebrated. Our dish was plated with fresh purple, orange, red, and yellow tomatoes of different sizes and varieties. They tasted incredibly fresh. Heirloom Tomatoes The tomatoes are accented by fresh slivers of stone fruit — peaches and plums for us. The sweetness was a nice accompaniment to the tomatoes. Heirloom Tomatoes Farmer’s cheese — pressed cottage cheese — is dropped in small spoonfuls onto the tomatoes. Yogurt crisps are placed on top. These added some fun texture — almost wafer-like. Heirloom Tomatoes Fermented garlic puree is unceremoniously splattered onto the plate, creating some edible art (or a cringy mess, depending on your perspective) and loading the dish with garlicky flavor. Overall, this appetizer is a light, flavorful foray into the freshness of Spanish cooking. Heirloom Tomatoes Savory Churros go another direction. These fried fingers of dough are crispy, colorful, and not at all what you expect if you’re a theme parks churro kind of person! Savory Churros For starters: they’re savory, dusted with a fine layer of cheese rather than cinnamon and sugar. Micro-basil adds some pops of green, and the churros are fried golden brown. Savory Churros We love the fun and freestyle shape of these churros, which are essentially several wonky fingers of fried dough intertwined in a pile of delightful fried doughness. Simply put: Savory Churros are fun! Savory Churros Savory Churros are also delicious. The golden fried dough (made with simple all purpose flour) is very satisfying, with exactly the mouthfeel and crunch you want from a churro. Savory Churros Seasoning here is minimally spicy — similar to Old Bay. But with a squeeze of lemon (provided with the dish), it’s terrific. Totally crave-worthy. Savory Churros The Romesco Sauce that comes with the churro brings some nuttiness and heat, and while it, too, was tasty, it’s not entirely necessary. These Savory Churros sing all on their own. Savory Churros For Entrees, we started with Golden Tilefish. This was our least favorite dish of the night because the fish itself was…fishier than we expected. Tilefish is generally described to be a sweet fish with flavor closer to shellfish. Ours was more fish, less sweet. Golden Tilefish The composed dish is interesting to look at, with a haphazard approach that gives the dish some energy. Sadly, that energy didn’t make its way into the components of the dish. Golden Tilefish The petite potatoes, shaved fennel, and roasted cauliflower florets tasted flat. The brightest element of the dish — Valencia orange sauce — wasn’t enough to lift the other elements. Golden Tilefish Overall, we say this one is a pass. But if you love the taste of tilefish, you may well want to give this a try. Golden Tilefish Our second entree, Manhattan Filet, was wonderful and clearly the winner of this dinner. The meat was the star of the dish: succulent and flavorful with a terrific sear on both sides. Manhattan Filet Olive oil-potato puree is a good accompaniment to the meat, and the ratio of protein and starch is good. Manhattan Filet Charred green onions and sherry vinaigrette add pungent aroma and acid (respectively) and really brighten the dish. It’s balanced in a way that makes the steak even more of a showcase — as well it should be. Manhattan Filet Our doneness was perfect, and the steak retained its moisture, making it a truly satisfying dish. Manhattan Filet The next dish is a Side — and it’s a substantial one! ‘Bravas’ Potatoes is essentially a celebration of potatoes, and these feel like a special version of comfort food. Don’t you want to dive into that bowl? ‘Bravas’ Potatoes Fried potatoes are tossed with seasoning and topped with pimenton aioli — Spanish smoked paprika aioli. The smokiness of the paprika comes through powerfully, and it really works. ‘Bravas’ Potatoes The hearty potatoes are topped with fried herbs that add some crunch and more flavor. For as deceptively simple as these potatoes sound, they are also fun and playful. And the portion is huge! Definitely share these with your potato-loving crew (or make a meal out of them, if you’re the potato fan in the group)! ‘Bravas’ Potatoes Desserts at Toledo are sweet, miniature masterpieces, as stunning to look at as they are fun to eat. This isn’t surprising when you learn that one of the pastry chefs at Toledo was on the opening team at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. The same attention to detail and high level of pastry skill is evident. Dessert Menu The dessert menu includes a selection of beverages as well as plated sweets. All of the Hot Beverages with Alcohol are also available in Barcelona Lounge, but at Toledo, you can get your coffee printed with latte art. Dessert Menu Sweet Wines come from Spain and Portugal and are served by the glass. Dessert Menu Hot Beverages without Alcohol also mirror Barcelona offerings, which is to say they’re delicious and strong! Dessert Menu From the quartet of dessert offerings, we ordered the Chocolate-Avocado Mousse, and the avocado really comes through! But first, let me answer the questions I KNOW you’re thinking — “seriously — the mousse is just in a little spiral on the plate — basically two raspberries worth of mousse — and THAT’S $10?!???!” Yes. Yes to both questions. Sometimes fancy desserts don’t make sense to us, either. Case in point. Chocolate-Avocado Mousse Anyway — back to the actual food review — we didn’t love that we could taste the avocado so prominently. We expected it to provide creamy texture, so it was a bit of a surprise that it also provided so much flavor. But it wasn’t horrible, and if you’re more familiar with avocado desserts, you’ll enjoy this. Chocolate-Avocado Mousse The other major component of the dish, strawberry basil sorbet, was a little less enjoyable than the mousse, unfortunately. The basil was far too prominent, and it overwhelmed the strawberry flavor. Strawberry Basil Sorbet We enjoyed the garnishes on the dish which included yummy vanilla meringue and crunchy crumble. (But that doesn’t mean it’s worth $10. For $11 you can get a No Way Jose the size of your whole head…and it’s 100% amazingly delicious. So…yeah… .) Chocolate-Avocado Mousse The Tapas Bar was by far the favorite dessert of the evening. The menu describes this as a ‘progressive’ dessert, and with each delineated bite, the diner gets a completely unique (and delicious) flavor experience. Tapas Bar The flavor progression begins with Spanish coffee and moves through crunchy chocolate, raspberry mousse, lemon curd, and vanilla mousse. Tapas Bar Each component is well thought-out, from the tiny meringue kiss to the bitter chocolate curl. And because it’s designed to be progressive and in perfect ratio, you can really slow down and enjoy each bite singularly. No rushing through the Tapas Bar; take your time, linger, and enjoy. Tapas Bar Inside the bar portion of the Tapas Bar is a two-layer treat that’s part mild chocolate crisps (think tiny wafers all chopped up) and rich chocolate cake. It’s decadent and interesting and a great palette for the stronger topping flavors. Inside the Tapas Bar And with that: we’re full! Happy and full. Toledo — Tapas, Steak, & Seafood does not disappoint…that much. Nosh or Not? Journey to Toledo if: You’re ready for a relaxing and delicious night out 15-stories above the World! You love Spanish food, culture, and art. Small plates and bold flavors are your cup of tea… or, in the case of Gran Destino Tower, gin. Enjoy a meal elsewhere if: You’re not ready to dive into the flavors of Spain. Tapas isn’t your thing… and the entrees are too fussy for you. You don’t have time (or the inclination) to enjoy table service dining on vacation. Overall Some logistics before we dive in: at present, Toledo offers a 10% discount for Annual Passholders and DVC Members, but it does not accept Tables in Wonderland. This is subject to change, so be sure to check with Disney before you dine here so there aren’t any surprises. Toledo is one Table Service credit on the Disney Dining Plan, with the Deluxe plan getting diners a tapas option along with an entree, beverage, and dessert (standard plan doesn’t get a tapas option). We learned from our server that management at Toledo hopes to keep the restaurant a one-credit restaurant in order to make the experience of dining here more accessible to more people. Of course, this, too, could change, so we’ll be watching and update as necessary. But what do we think about Toledo? It’s a play in contrasts. Stark black and white in the decor contrast with soft grays and blues. Endless views are contained by dramatic metal arches. Bold flavors battle with small bites. Our dining experience wasn’t perfect; we weren’t massive fans of a couple of the dishes we tried. But the experience — from the exceptional service we received to the lovely design of the space to the setting atop a 15-story-high tower — is memorable. Disney has officially announced a BRAND NEW PARADE! Tomorrowland Sign After a few new paint jobs within the land, we’ve now noticed that the whole dang SIGN is gone! Yup, you read that right…as of today, the Tomorrowland sign is GONE. And we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Stitch didn’t steal it! Missing Tomorrowland Sign The sign is likely being refurbished. OR it may even be replaced by a brand new sign. What’s your guess? Removal of the Tomorrowland Sign We’re not gonna lie, the Tomorrowland entrance looks pretty freakin’ strange without it. Don’t ya think? Removal of the Tomorrowland Sign And you know what’s been left in its place? Two, large gray boxes, which were likely left to cover the holes the sign had left in the ground. Removal of the Tomorrowland Sign With the addition of TRON and Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary quickly approaching, it only makes sense that a few changes would be made throughout Tomorrowland and the rest of the park. Stay tuned to find out what they’ll be! We’re interested to see what changes, if any, Disney makes to the sign and the rest of Tomorrowland. Are you? Whether it’s our unique brand of magical fireworks at sea, the unforgettable all-day family fun on the beaches at Castaway Cay, or the adventure of ocean cruising aboard our classic ships – the readers of Travel + Leisure agree that Disney Cruise Line is the “World’s Best.” They chose us as the No. 1 Ocean Cruise Line among those carrying 2,200 passengers or more as part of the publication’s annual World’s Best Awards. Through this annual survey, thousands of Travel + Leisure readers pick their favorite destinations, hotels, resorts, spas, airlines, tour operators, rental-car agencies, cruise lines and more. The results will be published in the August issue and are available online now at travelandleisure.com. Of course, all the credit goes to the thousands of Disney Cruise Line Crew and Cast Members. After all, they’re the reason why Disney Cruise Line has been recognized with hundreds of distinguished awards from the travel industry since first setting sail in 1998. As our president, Jeff Vahle, says, “they are the secret to our magic!” Service was among the list of criteria readers used to rate Disney Cruise Line, as well as staterooms, food, destinations, excursions and value. As one reader put it, “The best part of the cruise was the service that we received. The waiters knew exactly what my kids liked after the first night. They were attentive to detail, kind, and entertaining.” There are so many things to be excited about when it comes to Disney Cruise Line! Not only are we building three new ships and developing a new private island, next year we add New Orleans as a home-port and make highly anticipated returns to the Hawaiian Islands, Puerto Rico and Greece. Pacific Wharf Cafe is one of our all-time favorite places to eat in Disneyland’s California Adventure. For real, everything there is simple…yet amazing. The Cheesecake Bread Pudding at Pacific Wharf Cafe They have great soups, bread bowls, and salads…comfort food galore. But, obviously, the seasonal desserts are the winners in our book. Recently, there have been a lot of bread puddings going around — and they are crazy good, you guys. We didn’t think that they could get any better after the last seasonal bread pudding Pacific Wharf had on their menu. Let us tell you, though… We were so wrong. The Cherry Cheesecake Bread Pudding is an actual masterpiece. The Best Dessert at Pacific Wharf The graham cracker bread pudding is filled with cherry cheesecake and topped with whipped cream, glazed cherries, and more graham crackers. Cherries, cream cheese, and graham crackers galore! This bread pudding is every cheesecake lovers’ dream (according to our reviewers, of course…you should absolutely try one yourself to be sure ;-D). There’s a lot of sweet-tart flavor going on with the cherries, and the creaminess of the cheesecake is a rich foil for them. Then, of course, graham crackers?!? The Cheesecake Bread Pudding Sign We have to admit that this is our favorite bread pudding so far. That is, until the next one is somehow EVEN MORE delicious. We’re saying you’ll definitely want to purchase this at Pacific Wharf for $5.39. Seriously, how do these bread puddings keep one-upping each other?! Have you tried the Cheesecake Bread Pudding yet? Lots of change is on the horizon for Walt Disney World Resort. With the closure and relocation of many fan-favorite locations at Epcot, and the construction of new attractions and the Disney Skyliner, it’s clear to see that lots of new opportunities are on the horizon. Blizzard Beach Now, it seems that even more change is on the way as we’re spotting a lengthy refurbishment period for Blizzard Beach Water Park this year. Though Blizzard Beach typically experiences an annual refurbishment period during the later months of the year, this closure seems to be a bit longer. In the last few years, Blizzard Beach has closed for refurbishment beginning in October, but this time we’re seeing on the Disney World website that the waterpark will be closed starting in the beginning of September. Blizzard Beach Refurbishment And according to the Blizzard Beach calendar, we are seeing that the location will at least be closed through the end of 2019. Blizzard Beach Refurbishment We will be sure to keep you posted with updates as they are released. So, be on the lookout! (: But if you’re planning to hit up Blizzard Beach in September, switch your sights to Typhoon Lagoon! What do you think about the changes happening around the parks? We’re returning to Walt Disney World’s Gran Destino Tower this afternoon to share Barcelona Lounge‘s late-morning through midnight offerings of spirits, wine, beer, and light bites! Barcelona Lounge Yesterday we explored this beautiful space, with its Gaudi-inspired stained glass bar, golden hanging lanterns, and soaring columns, in our FIRST LOOK. Click here to see more from the Lounge! Suffice to say, it took our breath away, and we’re thrilled to be back in the space — this time for a look at some drinks and eats! Check out our We’re LIVE post HERE for links to other Gran Destino Tower reviews and photo tours! Barcelona Bar We tried a few of the bartender’s recommendations for cocktails (two featuring gin from the Tower’s extensive collection) and two of the light, Spanish-inspired eats offered in the Lounge. Barcelona Lounge Eats and Drinks Drinks Barcelona Lounge has a large and diverse menu of beverages, with a thoughtful focus on gin tonics. The gin tonic is a popular drink in Spain, and at Barcelona Lounge, guests are encouraged to have a little fun with theirs. Barcelona Lounge Menu Of the three Specialty Cocktails we tried, two of them — the Gran Gin Tonic and the Santa Maria Collins — feature gin. The Sherry Cobbler, unsurprisingly, celebrates sherry. Cocktails at Barcelona Lounge The cast members we spoke with at Barcelona Lounge were eager to share their knowledge and recommendations. The Gran Gin Tonic is the signature drink of Gran Destino Tower, but for Barcelona Lounge patrons who don’t want to be overwhelmed with gin flavor, bartenders recommend the sweet Costa Del Sol with sweet-and-sour, pineapple, and fresh fruit. Gran Destino Gin Tonic We tried the Gran Gin Tonic, which makes a great first impression in orange and green. A sprig of rosemary adds some height to the glass and is a strong aromatic (so maybe remove before drinking if you’re not a big fan). Gran Gin Tonic The components of the Gran Gin Tonic ($13.00) are Tanqueray Gin, House-made Saffron-Orange Tonic, and Soda Water. It’s the saffron-orange tonic — made in-house — that gives the drink its distinctive color. Gran Gin Tonic But the orange and saffron also lead the way in the drink’s flavor, which is powerfully orange and a bit sweet. Gran Gin Tonic As a signature drink, it leaves an impression — a good one — and is an appropriate representation of the complex and beautiful Tower. Gran Gin Tonic The Santa Maria Collins ($11.50) likewise showcases gin, this time Puerto de Indias Strawberry Gin with Lime, Strawberry, and Club Soda. A little bit sparkly, a good amount of sweetness, and a lot of fruity notes make this drink dangerously easy to drink. Highly recommend — but pace yourself! Santa Maria Collins Just as a note: we were told the Tini Sucio ($12.50) has been a popular choice, and as it’s essentially a dirty martini, we’re not surprised. The bartenders are also well-versed in helping patrons Build Your Own Gin Tonic ($13.00) from the array of choices. Tonics Specialty Cocktails cover a wide range of flavors, including the Cafesito Conquistador, which features Cold Brew Coffee, and the two drinks we tried from this part of the menu: the Sherry Cobbler and the Sangria Tinta. Cocktails The Sherry Cobbler ($12.50) — aside from its clever name — is a tasty drink that finishes sweet despite the obvious presence of sherry. It combines Emilio Hidalgo Pedro Ximénez Sherry, Sweet-and-Sour, Orange, and Fresh Fruit. We also tried this one at Villa del Lago when it recently opened. Note that the two locations do share quite a few of the same drinks! Sherry Cobbler Sherry Cobbler gets a lot of flavor from the fresh fruit that’s used as a garnish and in the glass. We enjoyed drinking this one, too! Sherry Cobbler The Sangria Tinta (as it’s listed in the menu) is comprised of Garnacha Old Vines, Torres Magdala Naranjas del Mediterráneo, and Orange. Sangria Tinta The Sangria Tinta tasted fresh and light — making it another refreshing option for those hot Florida nights. Sangria Tinta Barcelona Lounge also offers a Spanish Margarita and a Pomelo Daiquiri, among other creative concoctions. Cocktails And the wine list at Barcelona Lounge offers many vintages from Spain and California. In fact, we were told that 80% of the wines offered in Gran Destino Tower establishments is Spanish in origin. Wine Wines And the Distinctive Spirits Collection — like the one in Dahlia Lounge — is impressive! Distinctive Spirits Menu Distinctive Spirits Additional offerings include Hot Beverages with and without alcohol, cold beverages like fountain drinks and cold brews, and Zero Proof Mocktails. Beverages We tried an espresso, Cafesito Delicioso. It was rich and intense in flavor, fortified with coffee liqueur. Cafesito Delucioso Earlier today, we also tried the Cafe Bombon, espresso with sweetened condensed milk. Coffee Menu It was another winner, giving us the kick we needed for more exploring! Overall, the drinks at Barcelona Lounge were terrific, leaving us wanting to try even more! Eats Barcelona Lounge also offers a small menu of light, Spanish-inspired bites. We sampled two, both of which include multiple components. Barcelona Eats We opted for the Spanish Charcuteria (because when have we passed up the chance to eat meat and cheese?) and A Taste of Barcelona. Food The Spanish Charcuteria ($12.00) consists of meats, cheeses, olives, and fig jam. It’s served with sliced, grilled sourdough. Spanish Charcuteria This was an amazing platter of food. The meats were flavorful and salty. The olives added a nice briny-ness to balance that out. Spanish Charcuteria We loved the fig jam which was very zesty and had strong citrus notes. Spanish Charcuteria The bleu cheese was super bleu-sy, which we loved. But if you’re not a fan of bleu cheese, you likely won’t care for this strong variety. Spanish Charcuteria The sourdough was a nice addition to the platter, too, with its light olive oil flavor and crispy crust. Spanish Charcuteria For the price ($12.00) we thought the Spanish Charcuteria was a bargain (in relative Disney prices, anyway). We’d definitely go back for this. But do note: cast members told us the dishes at Barcelona Lounge are prepared in a separate kitchen, and the staff here don’t have the flexibility to change out items on this dish, which comes assembled from that kitchen. Spanish Charcuteria Unlike the Charcuteria, A Taste of Barcelona, we discovered, can be customized insomuch as doubling up on one item if there’s something you can’t eat. Taste of Barcelona A Taste of Barcelona includes Marcona Almonds, Aceitunas (olives), and Marinated Manchego Cheese. Taste of Barcelona A Taste of Barcelona also comes with grilled sourdough. Sour Dough The Marcona Almonds are blanched and tasty — very easy and pleasant to eat and a great bar snack. Taste of Barcelona The Aceitunas are marinated and flavorful, and there are tons of them in the ramekin in which they’re served. Taste of Barcelona But the star on the platter — for us — is the Marinated Manchego Cheese. The marinade consists of cold-pressed olive oil, roasted red pepper, thyme, and orange zest. There’s a TON of flavor going on here, and it was delicious. Taste of Barcelona When sharing tapas at Barcelona Lounge, you’ll receive a simple place setting, including a small gray plate and gold-plated silverware. Dishware To be perfectly honest, our only complaint about Barcelona Lounge is that the barstools aren’t very comfortable. But that’s probably for the best because there’s no reason to leave once you’ve settled in. The food and drinks are top-notch, and the decor and feeling of the Lounge are compelling. We foresee a lot of evenings spent relaxing here, and that is the highest compliment we could pay. Want to see why the decor at Barcelona Lounge is making such an impression on guests?
