Have you heard of the COOLEST and HIPPEST new spot to hang out at the Disneyland Resort? If not, then you need to fly on over to the planet of Batuu to visit the Black Spire Outpost, where you’ll find a fun cantina hidden away among the streets of the outpost. Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the notorious watering hole where smugglers, bounty hunters, and weary travelers of all ages can come partake in some out of this world refreshments. Step inside and you’re greeted with the musical stylings of DJ R-3X (also known as DJ REX), the former Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours. With his quirky banter and rad beats, you’re sure to have a good time as you partake in concoctions made from unique “otherworldly” ingredients from across the galaxy. One of these concoctions is the Hyperdrive (Punch It!) – a non-alcoholic specialty beverage featuring Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, white cranberry juice, black cherry purée, and Sprite. Or you can sip on the Jabba Juice, a yummy beverage featuring Simply Orange with pineapple, kiwi, cantaloupe, and blueberry popping pearls. For the adults, the Fuzzy Tauntaun is a delicious concoction with peach vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice with tangerine, pure cane sugar, and “buzz button tingling” foam. And while you’re partaking in these refreshing treats, you can even snack on some Batuu Bits for a light and crispy galactic snack. To make your trip planning easier and give you more flexibility, Oga’s Cantina now offers advance reservations, which are highly recommended because walk-in opportunities are limited. Soon, Oga’s Cantina (as well as Savi’s Workshop) will follow the 60-day reservation process currently offered for restaurants and experiences requiring reservations. For more information and to make reservations, visit the Disneyland.com/Cantina or the Disneyland app. To learn about all food and beverage offerings throughout the Black Spire Outpost, check out our Foodie Guide to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Happy snacking, travelers! View the full article

In my role with Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, I have the privilege of working with some of the leading animal care experts who are responsible for the care of thousands of animals, including lions. It’s one of the many reasons I love this job. It’s been especially exciting over these past few days to see our Guests engaging in special opportunities to learn more about lions as part of The Lion King “Protect the Pride” campaign. Last week, we introduced you to our pride at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the Caring for Disney Animals video series. Today, we’re going to round out this series about lions by having one of our animal keepers, Lori, tell you more about what we feed the lions here, and what some of Dakari, Kamari and Kinsey’s favorite enrichment activities are. Of course, you can always visit the lions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with your friends and family to learn more about this incredible species. And it’s not too late to make this ride an even more memorable experience with your friends and family. For every guest who rides the Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Florida during opening week of The Lion King film (July 19 – 25, 2019), the Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2 (up to $350,000) to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund to help double the number of lions across Africa by 2050. Theme park admission is required. Although the special donation period for Kilimanjaro Safaris Expedition is ending this week, there are even more ways to help Protect the Pride! You can also learn more about the work Disney is doing to promote conservation of wildlife throughout the world. Let’s work together to keep the conservation conversation going! View the full article

More than 350 Disney Parks Blog readers joined us at AMC Disney Springs 24 for a special red carpet opening night screening of Disney’s “The Lion King.” During the event, special guest Don Hahn, who is one of the original producers on the animated “The Lion King,” stopped by to spend time with fans. Don, who loves the characters Pumbaa and Timon, took the stage and talked about the legacy of “The Lion King” and how the story has continued to resonate with audiences for more than 25 years. He also hosted a special inside look at the event especially for Disney Parks Blog readers! The night also included a variety of photo opportunities before and after the film at Disney Springs. Several readers posed with stilt walkers and other performers and musicians during “The Lion King” celebration. As you may know, Disney’s “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon, and utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way. Thank you to everyone who made “The Lion King” meet-up so magical. If you weren’t able to join us, be sure to see Disney’s “The Lion King’ in theaters now. View the full article

Each day this week, we are helping guests maximize their magical vacations at the Walt Disney World Resort. Today it’s not about families and it’s not about couples. Instead, it’s all about your squad! Did someone say road trip? Count us in! The Mission You and your tribe have three days to soak in as much magic as possible, so panelists recommend creating “challenges” or goals for the fun-filled weekend. First goal, four parks in one day. According to Angie, this absolutely can be conquered as all it takes is careful planning, well thought out FastPass+ selections and just a bit of determination. Minnie Van Connected by Lyft is also there to help you accomplish your four parks in one day goal. No need to worry about bus arrivals or ferry schedules as Minnie Van Service is a fantastic way to get around the Walt Disney World Resort. As you and your friends travel from park to park you can plan your next attraction and the ever-important snack list, all while being whisked around in a Disney-owned and operated vehicle. All of this is accessible to you through the Lyft app! The Relaxation According to the panelists, a girls’ weekend definitely calls for a spa treatment. Ashley P. highly recommends treating yourself at Senses – A Disney Spa and Salon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. A custom pedicure experience with complimentary light refreshments is a magical way to spend some time with your favorite gal pals at the Walt Disney World Resort! And did you know there are actually two Senses on property? Senses – A Disney Spa at Saratoga Springs Resort offers a wide variety of spa treatments including massage therapies, facial treatments and body therapies and wraps. Salon by the Springs, located at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, is also a wonderful place to pamper yourself and your best buddies! The Food Because what is a friends’ weekend without some amazing food? Yes, you can find out-of-this-world restaurants in Disney Resort hotels, Disney Springs and theme parks, but how about eating around the world without ever leaving Epcot? You could begin your evening with a glass of wine at Monsieur Paul, where you can also delight in an appetizer that captures the flavors of France. Then take a short stroll over to England where you and your besties can enjoy delightful British fare such as fish and chips or bangers and mash at Rose & Crown Dining Room. Cap this close to perfect night off with one, or maybe even two, scoops of Italian gelato at Gelati. If your getaway happens to take place between August 29 and November 23, 2019, you won’t want to miss Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. Try amazing food from countries around the world and enjoy some of your favorite bands at the Eat to the Beat Concert Series. This year 36 musical acts will perform at The American Gardens Theatre three times nightly from August 29 through November 19. For more great tips and suggestions on planning your next girls trip, or for general Disney vacation planning questions, come visit us at the DisneyParksMomsPanel.com and get a personal answer from one of our knowledgeable panelists. There are only two more days left in our series and if you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World for a special occasion, you are not going to want to miss tomorrow’s post! The grand opening of Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort included its unique restaurant Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, which has quickly become a guest favorite, and is one of my favorites too! Sitting atop this great new resort, Tolédo offers a rich menu that features dishes, small plates (tapas) and desserts inspired by the cuisine of Spain. And speaking of desserts, one of my favoritos is the “Café con Leche” Choux: dark chocolate mousse with a vanilla custard or “nata montada.” You can even end your dinner with a selection of beverages that showcase Spanish coffees, brandies, and dessert wines. We all have that “one movie” that turned us into Disney fans and for me that movie is “The Lion King”. When I first heard The Walt Disney Studios was planning a live-action version I was over the moon and couldn’t wait to relive the story on the big screen again. (Of course, I knew exactly where I would be going!) There’s nothing quite like seeing a Disney film during opening weekend at AMC Theatres at Disney Springs. We celebrated the big night with some of our Disney Parks Blog readers who got the red-carpet treatment and a little surprise and delight from “extROARdinary” stilt walkers. Guests also got to hear a little from special guest Don Hahn, one of the original producers on the animated “The Lion King”. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Don to get his thoughts on the new film and hear about his amazing career working with Disney Legends. Check it out! “The Lion King” just celebrated 25 years and continues to be such a beloved Disney film for fans of all ages. What’s it like to now see the story being retold with new technology as a live-action film? It’s a little odd and exciting at the same time. It’s like you’re raising a child and you send them off to summer camp and they look a little different. We had no idea that The Lion King would be so successful 25 years ago and seeing what Jon Favreau and the entire team has done with the story is nothing short of a modern miracle! The music in “The Lion King” is so impactful—can you share a little more with readers on how important music is in storytelling? Music is key in storytelling and Disney does it so well. You see music in key moments of film when a character is moved by deep emotion and so much so that they have to sing. Music represents emotional expression and what it means to be human. It’s just as important as the visuals and talent and is a key tool in the toolbox. When it all comes together it creates magic. Who’s your favorite character in “The Lion King” and why? I love Pumbaa and Timon because they’re so funny and offer a welcome relief in the film but I also really love Rafiki. He represents this wise old man you often see in many popular stories and helps lead Simba on his journey of growing up. One of my favorite scenes is when Rafiki is leading Simba through the forest to that iconic moment when he sees his reflection and realizes his father is with him. You’ve had a really amazing career so far producing many Disney films and collaborating with incredible people including Disney Legends. Was there anyone in particular you’ve worked with that was really impactful to your personal or professional life? There’s been quite a few— Woolie Reitherman who was one of Disney’s Nine Old Men was a big influence on me. Walt gave him the studio when he decided to pursue his work with the theme parks and I was just so impressed by his work and I learned so much from him. I actually had my own “circle of life” moment because he was teaching me his job which I would later take on as a producer. I also learned a lot about animation and music from Walt Stanchfield, Howard Ashman and Hans Zimmer. I had no idea how influential they would be at the time! I know you’re a creative at heart whether it be working in film, writing or even painting. Is there any advice you have for our readers who are aspiring creatives? Don’t just wait for the phone to ring or for an opportunity to find you—make your own goals and listen to the passion in your gut. Today is the golden age for making your own content and there are so many tools and resources than ever before for creatives. Go out in the world and tell your story no matter how many people read it or see it. Create for yourself. Anything else you’d want to share with readers of the Disney Parks Blog about the live-action “The Lion King”? Stories are meant to be retold and it’s exciting to see that happening. There’s a whole new generation of filmmakers of people who haven’t grown up with the animated films and I think that’s exciting. I didn’t know Walt Disney but I know he was forward-thinking and I think he would really be excited about the future. There’s always a new story to be told around every corner and it’s our job as storytellers to tell them. See #TheLionKing in theatres now! Get your tickets here. View the full article

Open to the hotel guests and the general public, the menu features Artisan Pizzas, Duck Confit Tacos, the much “wowed” about Spaghetti Burger and Confetti Dessert Nachos, along with signature cocktails and mocktails.*** At the Disneyland Hotel, if you upgrade to the concierge level, you can also enjoy fantastic views of the fireworks from the E-Ticket Club located on the eleventh floor of the Adventure Tower. The Jungle Cruise-themed restaurant has recently added a few new options to its menu. So, grab your binoculars and explorer gear, and let’s check them out together! The first item we wanted to point out was the Pao De Queijo (which can typically be found at the Brazil booth during Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival). According to Disney, this is a “gluten-friendly cheese bread from deep in the Amazon served with chimichurri cream cheese.” ©Disney A few Tropical Serenade Sangrias have also been added to the menu. These are available in three different flavors — Frosty Pineapple, Cerulean Blue, and Pineapple Passion Fruit! The Frosty Pineapple drink is prosecco wine infused with pineapple and apple flavors. The Cerulean Blue consists of a Riesling white wine with hints of orange. Lastly, the Pineapple Passion Fruit is composed of passion fruit and pineapple blended with prosecco. Currently, these offerings are not listed on the traditional menu, but according to Disney, they are available. Just ask a Cast Member and they should be able to help you! We’ve seen some pretty unique food creations during our time eating our way through the Disney parks and resorts, like Disneyland’s new sour cherry beignets. Downtown Disney’s Uva Bar This burger from UVA Bar and Café in Downtown Disney may just be another unique menu item to add to the list! UVA Bar and Café serves burgers, gyros, salads, and more. Since they serve burgers, the location typically likes to mix up the menu by adding a burger of the month. And you’ll never guess what the current burger is. It’s a Pepperoni Pizza (!!) burger. Never thought I’d put those words in the same sentence but here we are… ©UVA Bar and Café The burger is made of certified Angus beef, fried mozzarella, marinara jam, pepperoni, fresh arugula, and pesto aïoli, and is served with garlic fries! You’ll find the Pepperoni Pizza Burger at UVA Bar and Café for a limited time. The meal will cost you $20 before an Annual Passholder discount is applied. It seems like yesterday when the original Disney’s “The Lion King” animated film was released. I can still remember how awestruck I was with the music, animation and a storyline about the battle for Pride Rock. Now 25 years later the remake stirs up my emotions in a much more powerful way. The film’s realism reveals the majesty of the lion, as well as the wondrous creatures in nature. If your little cub embraces the king of beasts and all animals, take them to Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here, they can board a rugged safari vehicle and behold a stately African lion perched on the grasslands. They can also spot hippos, giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs, crocs, and so much more. The safari is a good way to instill a love of nature at an early age, and teach about the crisis facing lions and other wildlife across Africa. Disney is committed to supporting the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund with the “Protect the Pride Campaign.” July 19 – 25, Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2 (up to $350,000) for every guest who rides Kilimanjaro Safaris in support of the Lion Recovery Fund. Watch as these little ones have a roaring good time aboard the safari, and support the cause. View the full article

Get ready to soar on the newest attraction at a Disney theme park, Soaring: Fantastic Flight, which opened today at Tokyo DisneySea Park. Based on the popular attraction, Soarin’ Around the World, the latest addition features new scenes and visuals for an experience exclusive to Tokyo Disney Resort. Guests of Soaring: Fantastic Flight embark on a journey over famous landscapes around the world, with the breezes and scents to match each scene. The opening event in Tokyo featured Japanese professional figure skater Rika Kihira. As one of the few women to have ever landed the triple axel jump in an international competition, Rika knows all too well what it feels like to soar. And of course, special guests Mickey and Minnie Mouse were there to join in on the fun! The new attraction also features the breathtaking Museum of Fantastic Flight, nestled in the hills of Mediterranean Harbor amidst the backdrop of an old-world Italian village. Dedicated to humankind’s enduring dream of flying, the museum celebrates Camellia Falco — a visionary innovator in the fledgling field of aviation — with a special retrospective of her life. A grand tour of the museum includes a magical visit from the spirit of Camellia and culminates with guests boarding her latest and greatest achievement — a flying vehicle of her own design called the Dream Flyer. Guests soon experience what Camellia believed, that our imagination can propel us into the future and take us everywhere in the world. And before guests know it, their spirits are sent soaring. Also opening the same day at the Hangar Stage in Lost River Delta, the brand-new Song of Mirage show features Mickey Mouse and his pals on an adventure to seek out the Rio Dorado (Spanish for “golden river”) and its legendary city of gold. Launching the same day, the Disney Fastpass, now available via the Tokyo Disney Resort app, offers guests faster access to 18 attractions including “Soaring: Fantastic Flight.” View the full article
