When menus were released by Disney World earlier this month for its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge dining locations, there was one notable absence: alcoholic beverages. Love it or hate it, Walt Disney World restaurants typically serve adult beverages, and we expected to see some appear on the World’s Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo and Ronto Roasters menus. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo And now, with under a month left until the 11-acre land opens to the public, online menus have been updated for both eateries. Now two specialty alcoholic drinks have been added for both Docking Bay and Ronto Roasters. Docking Bay’s offerings include the Takodana Quencher ($15) comprised of Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum, Blue Curacao, Simple Orange Juice, Pineapple, and Kiwi and the Gold Squadron Lager from Blue Point Brewing Co. ($13.25), a Galaxy’s Edge exclusive beer that’s offered in Disneyland’s Oga’s Cantina. (Oga’s Disney World location has yet to release its full menu, but we expect to see exclusive beers on the menu there, too.) Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo Menu Ronto Roasters in Disney World’s Black Spire Outpost will offer the Coruscant Cooler (named after a Star Wars universe planet) will mix Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, and Cranberry and Lime Juices. Ronto will also serve Trandoshan Ale (another Star Wars-inspired name) from Concrete Beach Brewery out of Miami. This beer does not appear on Disneyland’s Oga’s Cantina menu, leading us to believe it may be a Disney World exclusive. Ronto Roasters Menu We’ll keep our eyes peeled for Disney World’s complete Oga’s Cantina menu and let you know as soon as it’s released. In the meantime, stick with DFB as we bring you all the latest from Disney World’s upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Are you looking forward to tipping back a new beverage on Batuu? It’s already August and it’s time for back-to-school shopping (can you believe it?!) Although my school days are over, I always enjoyed this time of year when I could pick out an all-new wardrobe and check off items on my school supply list. I swung by a few of my favorite shops at Disney Springs and scoped out this year’s must-have items to add to your list. Check it out! Backpacks We all know backpacks are an essential back-to-school item and Disney Springs has plenty to choose from. There are so many new and colorful designs inside World of Disney themed to Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Disney foods, Mickey Mouse, The Haunted Mansion, and more. Those of you looking for smaller backpacks will find an abundance of Disney Parks Loungefly designs themed to your favorite Disney character or attraction at DisneyStyle or World of Disney. Looking for more of a simple bag? Swing by Vera Bradley and Kipling for totes, wallets, backpacks and more. You can even personalize your item in store—just ask a team member for more details. Stationary Discover a few items that will add a bit of magic to your school days ahead. These classic Disney Parks pens are one of my favorite souvenirs from Walt Disney World Resort and pair nicely with a Disney notebook from WonderGround Gallery at Marketplace Co-Op. I spotted this colorful Mickey Mouse design from the Celebration of the Mouse Collection celebrating various styles of Mickey artwork. Apparel From trendy socks to lightweight jackets, World of Disney has everything you need to be the ultimate trendsetter on your first day back-to-school. If you’re need of staples like tees and pants, stop by UNIQLO only a short walk away. This store is one of my favorites to pick up casual outfits for anyone in the family. Shoes Stay comfy with colorful boots, sandals, pumps, ballet flats and more at Melissa Shoes. They even have an adorable miniMelissa collection with Disney styles for kids. The best part? Every pair is made from eco-friendly, hypoallergenic material. If you’re looking for an athletic shoe check out the HOVR collection from UNDER ARMOUR BRAND HOUSE. These running shoes offer the best of cushion, durability, bounce, and efficiency and were the winner of the 2019 Runner’s World “Recommend” Award. Dorm Rooms Add some warmth to your dorm room or college apartment with whimsical treasures and uplifting art prints from Sugarboo & Co. I love their collection of handmade, over-sized throw pillows—a great accessory for your bed or living room. I can’t wait to see what items you pick up during your back-to-school shopping spree. Share your photos on social media using #DisneySprings. Who knows—you might even be featured on our @DisneySprings Instagram handle! View the full article

We all know which restaurants are popular at Walt Disney World. They’re the table-service ones that are nearly impossible to get an advance dining reservation at or the counter-service spots that never have any tables open so you end up eating your food on top of a nearby trash can (no judgment — we’ve all done it!). Char Siu Pork But what about some lesser-known Disney World dining options? We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite underdogs; the restaurants and menu items that most park guests often overlook. Here are our top 5 things that people aren’t eating at Disney World, but oughta try!!! The Gibsons Sandwich King Cheeseburger At Disney Springs’ BOATHOUSE Walt Disney World is home to many over-the-top eats, but The Boathouse’s Classic Cheeseburger is simplicity done right. You see, The Boathouse is managed by the Gibsons Restaurant Group, an iconic Chicago-based steakhouse, and these guys know a thing or two about meat. The Boathouse The all-beef burger is made from a custom blend exclusive to The Boathouse. And while you may think this fancy steak and seafood restaurant doesn’t fit into your budget, the Gibsons Sandwich King Burger won’t make you delay your next mortgage payment! Gibsons “Sandwich King” Burger Hop Champion An excellent beef burger is topped with pepper jack, fried peppers, and more fixin’s along with a spicy aioli that makes this one of our favorite burgers on property…and that’s saying something! Gibsons Sandwich King Burger The Baseline Tap House California Cheese And Charcuterie Plate At Hollywood Studios Tucked away between Muppets 3D and the ever-popular Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant, the unassuming BaseLine Tap House often gets passed by. The small-ish taproom boasts a fantastic outdoor patio which usually has plenty of seating available, and the $10 Charcuterie Board is not to be missed. You’ll receive a generous portion of California-produced cheeses and meats including chorizo and calabrese salami accompanied with cornichons, grapes, and toasted baguette slices. The board is a perfect size for sharing or can be made into more of a light meal with the addition of one of Baseline’s soft Bavarian Pretzels and Californian Craft Beer Flights! BaseLine Tap House Charcuterie You can check out our full BaseLine Tap House review here! “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork At Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Navigation Co.’s Skipper Canteen While this table-service restaurant hasn’t been a smash hit with the majority of parkgoers, its become a cult-favorite among more adventurous eaters. Jungle Skipper Canteen Sign The flavor profiles are not what you typically expect to find in theme park cuisine and the restaurant itself is a feast for the eyes, offering three unique dining rooms — The Mess Hall, The Falls Family Parlor and the Society of Adventurers and Explorers (S.E.A.) secret room. The Jungle Cruise’s distinct brand of humor is told throughout many visual gags, props, decor, and artwork. In addition to all the comedic details you’ll see, you’ll be served by your very own rib-tickling skipper! Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen S.E.A. Room As for eats, the delicious “Hardy Har Char” Siu Pork has notes of sweet chili, soy, and seared garlic. Char Siu Pork If you don’t dine on swine, “Tastes Like Chicken” Because It Is features a pile of chicken and vegetables served over a bed of fried rice with a mouth-watering hoisin sauce. Tastes Like Chicken The Skipper Canteen also does an amazing job at preparing veggies. Often the side vegetables are so perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, they’re as delish as the main entree! Take a look at our full Skipper Canteen reviews here to see if its a must-go place for your family! Brunch At The Grand Floridian Café While just a short monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, not many park guests think to grab a quick bite at The Grand Floridian before hitting the parks. It’s a shame because this quiet, tranquil restaurant would become their instant favorite if that were the case. Grand Floridian Cafe Dining Room The caliber of food at The Grand Floridian Café can’t be overstated enough and the menu’s prices are an excellent value given the food’s quality. We’ve filled up many times on the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles — a moist piece of chicken hand-dipped in tangy buttermilk batter and drenched in crispy cornflakes served over a soft, warm waffle with hot honey-like syrup — yum! Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffles Or for an even more kicked-up brunch, enjoy the upgraded Mickey Waffles! These aren’t just your regular Mickey-shaped waffles. Your upgrade includes a specialty syrup and three additional toppings combinations to choose from such as sugar cookie crumbles with whipped cream, strawberries and strawberry sauce, or mandarin oranges with chantilly cream, craisins, and citrus-pecan syrup just to name a few! Mickey Waffle with ALL the toppings! And the trio of benedicts ain’t half bad, either! Trio of Benedicts Check out our Grand Floridian Café breakfast review here! Bread Service You may have walked right by Nomad Lounge on your way to Pandora: The World of Avatar without ever even noticing it was there! This sleepy little bar has a super-comfy vibe from its plush outdoor patio furniture to its cozy and intimate indoor seating. Since the bar serves as the lounge for Tiffins, Nomad Lounge offers many of the same signature Tiffins cocktails and small plates. This is a great way to try a Tiffins drink or dish without spending a fortune. Nomad Lounge A fantastic option for a snack is the Tiffins Signature Bread Service which costs $11 and features a variety of flatbreads served with Indian-spiced tomato chutney, spicy coriander yogurt, and fig tapenade. If you enjoy this tasty appetizer, we recommend you check out the Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanaa Indian-style Bread Service. At $17 you’ll be feasting on an even wider selection of breads and spreads with great up-close viewing of Animal Kingdom Lodge’s resident zebras and giraffes! Bread Service at Sanaa! We hope you’ve enjoyed our journey off the beaten path and will explore some of these less familiar places on your next Disney World vacation. And if you can’t get into your must-do restaurant, don’t forget to check out our video all about alternatives to Disney World’s most popular restaurants here! In just the past few years, Walt Disney World began installing refillable bottle stations (officially called hydration stations) in its Parks and Resorts. To date there aren’t many, but with the many pushes Disney is making to be more eco-conscious (see their controversial plastic plans here!), we expect more will be installed in the future. And lots of readers have expressed interest in these stations, so we’re here with answers for all of your refillable bottle station questions! Refillable Water Bottle Station What are refillable bottle stations? These are water fountains specifically designed to refill bottles. Whether you bring your own water bottle into the Parks or want to reuse a water bottle you bought in your Park travels, these refillable bottle stations make it possible to refill your bottles without having to do that comical and unfruitful bottle tilt at a typical water fountain. Where can I find these wonders of bottle filling technology? Presently we’ve confirmed five refillable bottle stations, but it feels like there’s more being added on the regular. Some of the earliest were spotted in the queues of Nav’i River Journey and Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora. These are accessible only to those waiting in line. We’ve also spotted a station at the Hollywood Studios bus stop and Skyliner restrooms. Hollywood Studios Entrance Restrooms Readers have noted that there’s one at the Kidani Village bus stop at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the most recent addition we’ve seen is at Cosmic Ray’s in Magic Kingdom. At present, these hydration stations are not noted on Guide Maps. How do they work? Refillable bottle stations are designed to send a single stream of water into the mouth of your water bottle without touching the bottle. There’s an outline of a bottle in the filling station that has a sensor. This sensor recognizes when you hold or place a bottle in front of it. Once the sensor senses a bottle is in place, it will automatically send that stream of water into the bottle. As long as you’ve aligned the bottle correctly, it should fill quickly without splashing. Refillable Water Bottle Station What if I like ice cold water? We have found that the water in the refillable stations is cool (but not cold). So if you’re fine with slightly-cooler-than-lukewarm water, you’re set to go. If you prefer freezing cold water, you may want to find a nearby quick service location that will give you a (free) cup of ice that you can dump into your bottle if it has a wide enough mouth. But hey — in zillion degree weather in Orlando, just about any water is better than no water. Do I need a bottle with a filter? The refillable bottle stations do filter the water that is dispensed into bottles. However, in our experience, the water still has that distinctive central Florida taste. So if you can’t stomach that iconic flavor, you’ll want to bring a filtered bottle that helps eliminate it or bring along flavor packets for your water (which you can buy at any grocery store and bring along with you, or order from a grocery delivery service). Why would I use one of these? For starters, they typically refill a bottle efficiently and without wasting as much water as the tip-a-bottle-in-a-water-fountain approach. They also don’t have quite as much danger of someone’s mouth just having touched the spout as water fountains do. But also, the refillable bottle stations keep a tally of how many plastic bottles have been saved by utilizing the refill station, and that’s a great thing for the environment. Refillable Water Bottle Station at Cosmic Ray’s We’ll keep an eye on this developing situation and update if any additional information comes to light. But in the meantime, if it works for you, jump on the refillable bottle station craze! Will you use these refillable bottle stations? We recently shared the exciting news that the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program has inspired more than 2 million hours of volunteer service across America. Together, Disney and Points of Light—the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service—are encouraging nonprofit organizations and schools to make a difference with family volunteerism as part of the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. The program recognizes efforts of eligible schools and nonprofits who organize family volunteer projects by providing Disney park tickets to use as a reward for volunteers, contest prizes, fundraisers or in other creative ways. A Gift For Teaching—a nonprofit organization serving local students and the primary provider of free school supplies to teachers across Central Florida—is the most recent recipient of Disney park tickets through the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. A Gift For Teaching was surprised with this recognition during their Back-to-School Kids and Family Day. “The volunteer work done today by compassionate families is absolutely inspiring, and we know that kids who volunteer grow up to be adults who volunteer,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Director of Corporate Citizenship at Walt Disney World. “These opportunities for family volunteers wouldn’t be possible without our incredible local nonprofits and schools that are constantly improving their communities and changing the world.” Disney has a longstanding relationship with A Gift For Teaching, and Disney VoluntEARS frequently participate in volunteering opportunities with the organization, including the annual Back-to-School Supply Drive. “Providing free school supplies to local students in need is a fulfilling experience for our volunteers,” said Jane Thompson, executive director, A Gift For Teaching. “To be recognized by Disney for the family volunteer opportunities we offer is so heartening, and this reward will help us give back to our members as they continue to serve the community.” The success of the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program recently led to the launch of a nationwide search for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year. For more information on the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program or the search for the 2019 Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year, or to get a school or nonprofit you know involved, visit pointsoflight.org/disneyrewards. These dancers will lead everyone in moves set to songs from the Descendants films. After the dance crew is summoned back, the Backlot DJ will keep the party going with fun upbeat music! Frightfully Fun Parade The fan-favorite “Frightfully Fun Parade” from Disneyland will take over Disney California Adventure for the first time! Be on the lookout for the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow, Mickey and Minnie, and a few Disney Villains. ©Disney And, joining the show this year is Cheshire Cat himself! ©Disney Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show Mickey’s Trick and Treat Show is also hitting DCA for the first time this fall! The show will feature Mickey, dancers, Halloween stories, and candy!! You’ll find this show at the Disney Theatre in Hollywood Land. ©Disney Carthay Circle Halloween Magic There will also be new Halloween magic appearing on the facade of Carthay Circle. Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party, the new separate-ticket party in Disney California Adventure park, begins Sept. 17 for 20 select nights. You’ll be treated to an unforgettable night of Halloween fun packed with exclusive new experiences and entertainment, including the new “World of Color” show – “Villainous!” Today, we’re pleased to share some first looks at this nighttime spectacular! Oogie Boogie (from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas”) weaves a Halloween tale about a young girl (and all-new character created by Disney animator Eric Goldberg) named Shelley Marie. In “Villainous!,” Shelley has a decision to make about her Halloween costume for this year, and finds herself wondering if she could really be as strong and unique as some of her favorite Disney villains. This twisted tale carries Shelley on an unforgettable journey through devious encounters with The Queen, Ursula, Dr. Facilier, Hades, Jafar, Maleficent and more. Enjoy watching the villainous side of Disney characters through fountains, lights, lasers, projections and special effects. “Villainous!” shows you that, deep down, there’s a little villain in all of us. Oogie Boogie Bash, which takes the place of Mickey’s Halloween Party, will feature other new experiences – including an interactive “Descendants”-inspired dance party, a stage show with Mickey Mouse, and a mysterious Disney villains walk-through experience.
