This month in Disney Doodles, we’re focusing on witch characters, and what they may wish to do or see if they had a chance to visit a Disney Park. In the 1989 film “The Little Mermaid,” Ursula is a sea witch who seeks to trap Ariel (and other ocean residents) in magical deals. What would she do if she had the chance to visit Magic Kingdom Park? “Ursula is a sea witch looking to rule over the seas,” said Artist Ashley Taylor. “It’s easy to imagine her wanting to start her quest by taking over at Pirates of the Caribbean.” View the full article

With the arrival of 83 dogs and one very special cat rescued from The Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian, H.A.L.O No-Kill Rescue animal shelter in Sebastian, Florida, was in desperate need for linens. Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, a Disney Vacation Club property, and Walt Disney World Textile Services answered the call for help and donated 600 pieces of linen – a combination of blankets, sheets and towels. A group of Disney VoluntEARS from Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, including the resort’s General Manager Paul Hart, delivered the linens to the nearby shelter and gave some much-needed TLC to the “potcakes,” a mixed-breed found in The Bahamas. Who could resist those lovable faces? After Hurricane Dorian moved off the island, the Humane Society of Grand Bahama was left with no food or medical supplies to care for the animals. Together with H.A.L.O., they quickly formed a plan to rescue 83 dogs and bring them to Florida. H.A.L.O.’s Director of Development Allyson Bootes told us that she was ecstatic to learn that Disney was able to help. “We are so appreciative of the linen donation and the help we received from the Cast Members down the road at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort,” said Bootes. “We were in a critical period of need after the hurricane, and this support could not have come at a better time!” The donation of linens was critical to the shelter’s ability to care properly for the dogs since all of the bedding used during the 14-day quarantine period had to be disposed to prevent the spread of disease. This is one of many ways Disney is continuing to help those impacted by Hurricane Dorian. The Walt Disney Company, led by Disney Cruise Line, committed $1 million to non-profit relief agencies to help hurricane relief and recovery efforts in The Bahamas. The company also has donated food, water, medical supplies, cleaning supplies, generators and construction materials, which the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have delivered to points in Nassau and the Abacos and others have helped deliver in Grand Bahama for those most affected by the hurricane. In addition, Disney Cruise Line is supporting its Bahamian-based Crew Members who live in impacted areas. So far, Disney has provided an additional $500,000 in supplies for these communities and direct aid to employees. View the full article

We’ve got huge heart eyes for ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — we just don’t always have the funds to indulge in their unlimited tasty meat skewers, teriyaki noodles, and signature bread pudding as often as we’d like to! (Especially dem noods!) ‘Ohana And while we’ve always had a knack for finding crafty ways to get our favorite ‘Ohana eats on without booking a Dining Reservation for the super spendy restaurant — like this super under the radar $60 twilight feast or how you can secretly get ‘Ohana’s famous bread pudding after 4PM at Tambu Lounge — we just unearthed even more ‘Ohana secret menu items! Located in the Polynesian’s lobby upstairs next to ‘Ohana, Tambu Lounge was THE spot to grab a drink at the Poly before there was Trader Sam’s to fill that rum-filled void we never knew we had in our hearts! We’ve enjoyed many a Lapu Lapu here! And since Tambu Lounge shares a kitchen with ‘Ohana, we’ve known for quite a while that you can actually ORDER SOME OF ‘OHANA’S MENU ITEMS HERE! Tambu Lounge What we didn’t know until last night is that Tambu Lounge has now become a literal decadent den of ‘Ohana delights! How is this possible? What’s the sitch with these $5 noodles? Don’t worry — we’re about to spill all our deepest ‘Ohana secret menu SECRETS! ‘Ohana The printed menu of Tambu Lounge’s nibbles includes Conch Ceviche, Shrimp Cocktail, Beef Tataki, Crispy Chicken Spring Roll, and a Mixed Grill Kebab served with a savory peanut sauce. Tambu Lounge Menu But don’t be fooled! Tambu Lounge also has secret ‘Ohana eats you can order from the bartenders after 4PM! You just have to be brave enough to speak up and ask for ’em! That’s how we nabbed ourselves this tasty ‘Ohana dinner on the CHEAP! It’s basically a WHOLE ‘Ohana meal (minus the veggies…we are somehow ok with that!) and we didn’t even have an ADR! ‘Ohana Feast at Tambu Lounge That Mixed Grill Kebab that’s printed on the menu? While it isn’t as secret as the other ‘Ohana items, many folks may not realize that the meat is the EXACT SAME deliciousness that ‘Ohana serves in its restaurant! Mixed Grill Kebab The kebab includes four shrimp, two pieces of chicken and two pieces of sizzlin’ steak — he’s a meaty boy for only $13! Plus, it’s served on a bed of greens so…that counts as your veggies, right?! Mixed Grill Kebab Okay, now for the stuff you won’t find on the printed Tambu Lounge menu, but you can order if you’re in the Polynesian-know (wink-wink!). Check out the loaf of ‘Ohana pineapple-coconut bread we scored! The cost was $6, which was a little steep considering it was just bread with some butter, but the fact that it’s ‘Ohana bread made us have to get it! ‘Ohana Bread And the moment you’ve all been waiting for… you can now order the ‘Ohana Teriyaki Noodles! Just look at ’em all delicious and begging to be eaten! Better yet, they only cost us FIVE BUCKS! ‘Ohana Noodles Whaaattttt?!! We’re still pinching ourselves, but it’s the glorious reality that is happening right now at Tambu Lounge. A Cast Member confirmed that folks had been asking for ‘Ohana’s noodles so often that they’ve finally given in! It’s not the size-of-our-heads bowl of noodles we were hoping for, but for only five bucks (that’s only a bit more than a bottle of water at Disney), we think it’s worth the money! Our entire ‘Ohana feast only cost us $24 before tax! Can you believe it!? What a time to be alive! Of course, if you really want to go in for the FULL ‘OHANA Experience, you can also get ‘Ohana’s potstickers and sticky wings at Tambu Lounge! ‘Ohana Sticky Wings That should help you fill out your meal — and your stretchy pants! ‘Ohana Pot Stickers You’ll want to make sure you save some room for dessert because you won’t want to miss out on the signature ‘Ohana bread pudding you can also get from Tambu Lounge. It’s one of the best-kept secrets of this Polynesian watering hole that we’ve been lucky enough to know for quite a while. It has to be, in all seriousness, one of our all-time favorite desserts at Disney World! Just look at that rich banana caramel sauce and melty vanilla ice cream — I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING! ‘Ohana Bread Pudding By our count, you can now get a total of six, yes SIX ‘Ohana menu items at Tambu Lounge — that’s practically everything except their salad or veggies. (And ‘Ohana salad is such a game changer that we wouldn’t be surprised if they gave in on that soon, too!) So if you’re looking for another sneaky way to eat some ‘Ohana grub at low, low prices (well, a lot lower than it costs to eat AT ‘Ohana, at least!), get on down to Tambu Lounge for some five-dollar noods and tell ’em your DFB friends sent you! Wanna see how you can enjoy a full ‘Ohana meal in your pajamas? Click here! Are you excited about scoring this ‘Ohana deliciousness for a lot less mullah and no reservation required? When we heard it was Hennessy week at Wine Bar George, we knew we had to get down there fast! Wine Bar George Because the NEW Dole Whip Cocktail we told you about earlier today? It’s around for THIS WEEK ONLY! Listed as the Cognac Colada on the menu, this Dole Whip Cocktail is made with Hennessy Black, Dole Whip Pineapple, Coconut, Espresso, and Banana — sounds intriguing, right? Some of these ingredients peaked our interests for sure — coconut, espresso??? Dole Whip Cocktail But this is easily one of our new fave of the Dole Whip drinks we’ve had at a Wine Bar George! Dole Whip Cocktail The espresso flavor is nice and strong! We thought it needed a strong coffee punch to balance out the sweet fruit flavors of the banana and pineapple. Meanwhile, the Hennessy wasn’t as sweet as the booze Wine Bar George typically uses in these spiked Dole Whip drinks, so if you like a cocktail that is bold, but not too sweet, you’ll want to try this! You can find the Cognac Colada at Wine Bar George THIS WEEK for $13.00. Will you be hittin’ up Hennessy Week at Wine Bar George? Let us know in the comments section! Related posts: News! We’re happy to report that our dear friend Avocado Toast is STILL having a moment at Disney World as we just discovered a new version of this super-trendy eat! Avocado Toast Is it a meal? Is it a snack? Who really knows! What we DO know is where you can get your hands on this tasty little number! We had a fruitful trip to Disney’s Polynesian Resort last night! Not only did we discover a Mike Wazowski Cake, and a new Pumpkin Spice Latte, but we also ran into one of our most favorite things to nosh on ON THE PLANET — Avocado Toast! Avocado Toast Read our review of Kona Island’s Pumpkin Spice Latte here! We found the new Avocado Toast offering at Kona Island — it’s also where we snagged the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Hold up — Pumpkin Spice Latte and Avocado Toast at THE SAME SPOT in ONE EVENING??? How were our millennial minds not exploding?! Somehow we held it together long enough to give you the REVIEW! Avocado Toast The Avocado Toast from Kona Island was truly amazing — the multigrain toast was crunchy yet soft in the middle and the creamy rich avocado complemented the egg nicely! There was lots of yummy arugula too, that added a fresh, peppery note and the cherry tomatoes brought a bright, big pop of flavor to the party! Avocado Toast Plus there was lots of goat cheese and the toast was dressed in lemon juice and herbed sour cream. Hey — if it tastes as good as it looks (and it does!), we’re not even mad that one piece cost us $12! Avocado Toast If you’re in the mood for something light and fresh, then this Avocado Toast is a delight! We could see it being especially popular for breakfast — however, monetarily-speaking, the savory Pork Nachos at Tambu Lounge are seriously legit and probably a better bang for your buck! Pork Nachos at Tambu Lounge For even more Avocado Toast action, check out Disneyland’s Tangaroa Terrace’s new menu — you can read our full review here (including their version of Avocado Toast!) The Nepola family from Pembroke Pines, Florida is now one of the five finalists in the running to be named the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year! The Nepolas have volunteered with HandsOn Broward since 2015. Parents, Justin and Jackie with daughters, Mia and Ava work tirelessly for the projects they volunteer for, whether they’re building gardens, distributing school supplies or packing meals for families in need. Recently, the family took on two big events as project leaders, Night On The Streets and the Florida AIDS Walk. Due to inclement weather, the two events were rescheduled to the same day and, without hesitation, the Nepolas kept their word to handle both, despite the extra work this would require. This example, and many more like it, shows the family’s dedication to serving their community and making the world a better place! The Nepolas were one of thousands of families across the country nominated for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year contest by schools and nonprofits registered with the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. They now join the Orlando, Aguirre, Bell-Wallace and Jeevanayagam families, as one of the five finalists in the running to win. On Friday Oct. 11, Good Morning America will launch a nation-wide online vote where you will be able to vote for the family that you think should be named the first ever Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year! Make sure you tune into GMA and visit Disney Parks Blog on Friday for a recap of the all the amazing finalists and details on how you can vote! You can also join the conversation by sharing the families’ stories using #VolunteerTogether The winning family will be announced on GMA on Nov. 1 and will receive a dream vacation to Walt Disney World where they will be the guests of honor at a special event to celebrate Family Volunteer Day on Nov. 23. Recently, a NEW churro spot known as Sunshine Churros opened two locations at Disney Springs. We reviewed all of their churro options and were pretty blown away with the flavor and quality! Sunshine Churros Now, we’re BACK to try their new fall addition — the Pumpkin Spice Churro. The Pumpkin Spice Churro is a plain churro covered in pumpkin spice sugar and served with a cream cheese frosting. Pumpkin Spice Churro We dunked this baby in the cream cheese frosting and instantly fell in love. We’re not gonna lie, we’re pumpkin lovers, so it would be hard not to like something pumpkin-flavored. Pumpkin Spice Churro But, the flavors were so was nice and subtle. It didn’t scream pumpkin, but instead gave us little hints of pumpkin. Pumpkin Spice Churro We were amazed by how fresh the churro was. It had the perfect balance of crunchiness and airiness. And we could have bathed in a sea of the cream cheese frosting, it was THAT good. Pumpkin Spice Churro You can find this at Sunshine Churros for $6.25. Whether they’re learning advanced language skills or pursuing a Master’s degree, our Cast Members are reaching their educational goals and dreams – all thanks to Disney Aspire. This groundbreaking education program, which recently celebrated one magical year, provides a variety of degree and certificate programs with 100% of costs covered by Disney. For Miranda Tong, a Guest Communications Specialist who has been with the Walt Disney Travel Company for almost ten years, putting her #DreamsWithinReach means earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with aspirations of pursing a legal or security role at Disney! “I’ve always been drawn to criminal justice so when I saw that it was available through Disney Aspire, I was so excited. This is my passion,” said Miranda. Miranda has always had a passion for research and wanted to go to college to learn and grow in the field of criminal justice, but shortly after she began taking classes, she pivoted to start her family. Her first priority shifted from her educational dreams to raising her children, but now that her kids are grown, she says it’s time to put her career goals back in view. “As I got older and my kids started to go to college, I thought ‘it’s my turn,’ and with Disney Aspire, I decided to put myself first,” shared Miranda. When Miranda first heard about Disney Aspire, she thought that it was too good to be true. After seeing how accessible it was and witnessing many of her coworkers enroll in the program, she realized it was time for her to go back to school. That was when Miranda’s Disney Aspire journey began. “This program has changed my life, as it’s given me the opportunity to follow my dreams of pursuing a career in criminal justice. I would’ve had to go out of my way to do this, but Disney put this program in front of me and they’re handing me my dreams,” said Miranda. “Disney has given me a great opportunity to continue working at a job I love, with people I love – all while pursuing my passions.” Miranda is well on her way to reaching her dream career in criminal justice and she has even received two Dean’s List certificates from Bellevue University in the process! “It was such a great feeling to receive my Dean’s List certificates,” she recalls. “It was hard for me to find my groove at first, and I didn’t even know if I could earn it. It was great to know that I still have the knack to learn.” Since launching in 2018, this unique program has been helping eligible Cast Members like Miranda to pursue their dreams. Stay tuned for more stories about how Disney Cast Members are putting their #DreamsWithinReach with Disney Aspire! Learn more about Disney Aspire by visiting aspire.disney.com. View the full article

Something’s blowing into Florida from the Windy City, and we’re not just talking ’bout the cooler weather! ©Portillo’s You midwesterners will know how exciting this news is, as the beloved Chicago-style restaurant chain has just announced it will be opening its third location in Florida right next to Disney World! Portillo’s is a household name in the north, famous for its Italian Vienna beef sandwiches, char-broiled burgers, and Chicago-style Vienna beef hot dogs served with the traditional poppy seed bun, neon green relish, celery salt, tomato, onion, with or without sport peppers, and mustard…BUT NO KETCHUP!! (Well, since we’re not in Chicago, they’ll make an exception and give you some ketchup if you’re reeaaally nice!) ©Portillo’s Even though they’re grilled offerings are usually the star of the show, Portillo’s also has some amazing freshly prepared salads, like the delicious Chopped Salad which has tiny ditalini noodles, crispy bacon, gorgonzola crumbles, and giant hunks of roasted chicken! It’s so good that you wouldn’t even know it’s healthy, well moderately… ©Portillo’s The biggest draw to Portillo’s though has to be its Chocolate Cake, which you can buy whole or by the slice at their restaurants! ©Portillo’s And under the category of things you didn’t know you needed in your life until this moment, file away the Chocolate Cake Milkshake, because, um, yeah, it’s seriously one of the most delicious milkshakes on the planet! It’s literally like drinking a piece of their moist, chocolatey cake through a straw! ©Portillo’s The new Portillo’s will be located on the intersection of Palm Parkway and Daryl Carter Blvd in Lake Buena Vista — about a 10-minute drive from Disney Springs! So, not too far away! Are you excited about Portillo’s opening a location near Disney World? Let us know in the comments below! Today, the Bell-Wallace family from Pickerington, Ohio became one of the five finalists in the running to be named the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year! The Bell-Wallaces volunteer story began seventeen years ago when Kevin and Carey Wallace approached Dreams on Horseback to ask if they could offer a therapeutic horse program for their four-year-old daughter Morgan, who had been diagnosed with autism. Kevin and Carey were so impressed with Morgan’s progress, they have been dedicated to supporting the program ever since. Morgan’s grandparents, Darlene and George Bell also joined as volunteers, with Darlene going on to create a new program to help support veterans experiencing PTSD. Now, every event at Dreams on Horseback features the volunteering efforts of the entire Wallace-Bell family —all three generations of them! The Bell-Wallace family were one of thousands of families across the country nominated for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year contest by schools and nonprofits registered with the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. They now join the Orlando and Aguirre families as one of the five finalists in the running to win. 23. The nonprofit or school who nominated the family will also receive $10,000 to continue their important work in the community. If you and your family would like to get involved with family volunteering, you can visit Points of Light to find opportunities in your area or search DIY projects that cover a variety of issue areas. Nonprofits and schools in the U.S. can join the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program and earn Disney Parks tickets by hosting volunteer family events. Hey, all you POG-aholics! If you can’t get enough of the tasty pineapple, orange, and guava juice concoction that can be found at places like ‘Ohana and Tusker House… You may be happy to know that we just discovered a new tasty incarnation of this glass of liquid sunshine! Pineapple, Orange, Guava Juice (POG) Get ready to meet POG juice’s slightly more sophisticated, (but just as yummy!) cousin, the Frozen POG Wine Slushie! We saw a menu advertising the Frozen POG Wine Slushie for $9 at Kona Island in Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The drink was listed as Tropical Wine Slushie, but a closer inspection of the fine print revealed the main ingredient of this cold masterpiece was none other than, you guessed it, POG Juice! Frozen Pog Slushy The frozen POG Juice is mixed with Moncalvina Moscato and Pineapple Soda which enhanced the sweetness of the POG Juice while adding even more fruity notes! Frozen Pog Slushy We grabbed ours in the evening, but you can totally snag the Frozen Pog Slushie in the AM, too! Disney isn’t letting the Arendelle Aqua trend go… Ice Elixir After reviewing EVERY Arendelle Aqua treat, we spotted ANOTHER Arendelle Aqua-inspired creation at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The Ice Elixir from Polynesian’s Barefoot Pool Bar is made with Tanquery Gin, Blue Curaçao, lemon, and pineapple! Ice Elixir Honestly, after trying ALL of the Arendelle Aqua drinks around Walt Disney World, this one wasn’t our fav. There is a very powerful pineapple flavor that is quickly followed by a sour flavor. The gin then seemed to be an afterthought. Ice Elixir We did love the color and think this is a great option for all the mega pineapple lovers out there. But, sadly it didn’t thaw our frozen hearts… If you’re looking for a delicious Arendelle Aqua drink, we suggest the Aqua Arctic Punch from The Daily Poutine instead. Ice Elixir The Ice Elixir is available at the Polynesian’s Barefoot Pool Bar for $12.00. Looking for more Arendelle Aqua goodies? Then, be sure to check out the following links below! Here It Is! At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the animals on the Kilimanjaro Safaris are clearly the stars of the show… but did you know they also served as inspiration for Disney’s “The Lion King” – in theatres now and available on digital Oct 11? Filmmakers spent several months at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge closely studying our animals and learning about their care and conservation from our animal care experts. I’m so proud of the end result – a stunning spectacular piece that celebrates the circle of life. Here’s a look at the role the park played in the making of the film. You can visit lions, hyenas, meerkats and more at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with your friends and family and learn more about the species featured in the film. Theme park admission is required. Today, the newly enhanced Disney Wonder is docked in the beautiful city of San Diego after completing her first Baja cruise of the season. Throughout the next month, this ship will take Disney Cruise Line guests to explore popular Baja and Mexican Riviera ports of call, such as Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán, Mexico. These itineraries, ranging from two to seven nights, highlight the region’s famous beaches and exciting water activities. Whether you are a snorkeling and scuba diving aficionado, or just like to enjoy the outdoors, these sun-kissed ports provide plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun. Families on our cruises from San Diego are among the first to experience the Disney Wonder enhancements that I gave you a first look at last week, like the New Orleans-themed French Quarter Lounge – a perfect companion to Tiana’s Place Restaurant. From Broadway-style musicals, including “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular,” energetic deck parties, world-class dining and extraordinary youth activities, there’s something for everyone aboard this remarkable ship. What’s more, all of our cruises from San Diego in October offer extra spooktacular fun with Halloween on the High Seas. This one-of-a-kind Halloween celebration features spooky parties, lively entertainment and elaborate décor, including the magical Pumpkin Tree. In fall 2020, the Disney Wonder returns to San Diego for more Halloween on the High Seas cruises to Baja and the Mexican Riviera. We’re traveling to Monstropolis with the new Mike Wazowski dome cake. Mike Cake That’s right, Mike Wazowski has finally found his place in the spotlight at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The Mike Wazowski dome cake is a chocolate cake with chocolate chips and a green chocolate ganache. This cake reminded us of the short-lived Stitch cake that appeared at Kona Island a few months ago, but we enjoyed this option a bit more. Mike Cake The cake was very light and airy and the flavors were simply delicious. Mike Cake The details on this little cake were so fun and we loved the bright green color! Warning: the cute green yummy ganache may stain your teeth and hands a bit. Mike Cake You can find the Mike Wazowski dome cake at Kona Island in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for $5.99 or a snack credit if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan! Looking for more Monsters Inc. treats? Then, be sure to check out the scary good Mike & Sulley Cookie Butter! Do you have your eye on the new Mike dome cake? Let us know in the comments below! From time to time I will be doing some Plein Air painting (from the field), from a new, inspiring location in the Disney Parks. I will share my sketches and experiences here on the blog each time. Today, I continue my “Sketches from the Park” series as I visited Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. When I was young I had a toy version of the Millennium Falcon that I loved to play with (ok, I still have it). So, naturally, I decided to sit down across from the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy for my sketching session today. I wanted to capture some quick sketches of the Falcon with the spires of Batuu rising up in the distance. First, was a quick ink and watercolor sketch in my small travel-sized sketchbook just to get things moving. I kept it quick and loose and just used one sepia-toned color to give it some life. After that, I got out my “datapad” to do a digital sketch with a little more detail and color from that same location. Check out the time-lapse below of this digital sketch to see exactly how it was created. I had a great time visiting Black Spire today to sketch a bit and enjoy the views. I hope you enjoy the art and keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for my next post from a new location in our “Sketches from the Park” series. See ya next time! View the full article
