We know many of you have been looking for an update on Disney Skyliner and are glad to share that it has reopened to guests today. Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and we are improving how we communicate with guests during their flight with Disney Skyliner. We again offer our deepest apologies to the guests impacted by the malfunction that resulted in extended operating delays on Oct. 5. Beginning today, guests may travel aboard Disney Skyliner from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. However, system updates later this week will result in the following modified operating hours for Oct. 16-18: Oct. 16: The Disney Hollywood Studios line will be closed while the other two lines will be available from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Oct. 17-18: All lines will be open from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Similar to ski lift systems, Disney Skyliner may slow or come to some stops during the ride, particularly when we need to accommodate guests who require additional time to load their cabin. We want to assure you that the comfort of every guest is important to us. As a reminder, Disney Skyliner connects Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to four Disney resort hotels: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (and the forthcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort, a Disney Vacation Club resort set to open Dec. 16, 2019). We greatly appreciate your ongoing patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you back aboard Disney Skyliner. View the full article

CELEBRATION, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2019) – Today, Newsweek announced that Disney Cruise Line topped its list of brands that exemplify America’s best customer service for the second year in a row. Customers ranked Disney Cruise Line as the no. 1 company overall, across a variety of industries, as well as in the cruise line operator category. “Great service is at the heart of everything we do,” said Jeff Vahle, president of Disney Cruise Line. “If you have sailed with us, you know that our Crew Members pay close attention to the details. They take the time to understand your preferences and go out of their way to turn ordinary encounters into magical moments. It’s what we are known for at Disney, and we couldn’t be prouder of this recognition from Newsweek.” Newsweek and Statista identified America’s Best Customer Service brands based on an independent survey of more than 20,000 U.S. customers who have either made purchases, used services, or gathered information about products or services in the past three years. Customers were asked whether they would recommend brands to friends or family and to assess brands in the following areas: quality of communications, professional competence, range of services, customer focus and accessibility. For a full list of awards, visit Newsweek.com. Disney Cruise Line blends the magic of Disney entertainment with the excitement of ocean cruising, offering incredible onboard experiences and itineraries to the sun-drenched destinations of the Caribbean year-around and awe-inspiring seasonal sailings throughout Alaska and Europe. Most Caribbean itineraries also include a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s award-winning private island in The Bahamas. Plus, for the first time next year, Disney Cruise Line will set sail from New Orleans onboard the Disney Wonder. The world of “The Princess and the Frog” is brought to life like never before onboard the Disney Wonder, which features exciting new enhancements, including the addition of a New Orleans-themed lounge that transports guests deeper into the heart of the city’s iconic French Quarter. Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its horizons, with new ships scheduled for delivery in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The name of the highly anticipated fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, Disney Wish, was recently announced along with the ship’s featured stern characters – Rapunzel and her feisty sidekick Pascal. The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and will set sail in January 2022. All three new ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas and, at approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. While the Disney Skyliner only opened September 29th, Disney World has already dealt with some technical difficulties. Disnet Skyliner Due to a collision, many guests were left stranded inside the gondolas for up to 3 hours (yikes). Buuut, it appears the issues regarding the Skyliner has been resolved ’cause they’re back open! Disney World announced that the Skyliner would be closed until further notice, but we’re excited that the new transportation system has finally re-opened for guests’ use after being closed for a little over a week. We express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and continue to work with each guest individually.” Disney Skyliner Now Open Although we might not ever fully know went wrong that day and why the gondolas piled up, we do know what it’s like to actually be stuck inside the Skyliners for three hours, thanks to DFB followers! We might be halfway through Spooktober, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the terrifying treats in Disney World! BoardWalk Bakery And, we’re taking you over to the BoardWalk for some frighteningly fun desserts for the Halloween season! The BoardWalk Bakery is serving up some sinister snacks this Fall! While we spotted the new Vampire Mickey Topper on the Banana Pudding… Halloween Banana Pudding …our sight (and fangs) were set on the Bat Caramel Cream Puff flying into the bakery! While the soft cream puff isn’t new, the chocolate bat wings and edible purple glitter sprinkled on top are giving it a Halloween makeover! Bat Caramel Cream Puff Since the dessert was kept in the cooler, the cream puff was nice and chilly. After one bite, the pastry melted in our mouths along with the sugar on top. Bat Caramel Cream Puff Although the caramel flavor in the cream wasn’t very strong, the custard was light and airy instead. The chocolate wings added a nice crunch and that bonus chocolate-caramel flavor to tie it all together. Bat Caramel Cream Puff You can flutter into the BoardWalk Bakery and get your Bat Caramel Cream Puff for $4.29 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit! Looking for more Disney World Halloween treats? Last week, Disney announced its 2020 Free Dining promo for ALL kids (ages 3 to 9) . Free Dining That got us thinking… could Disney be releasing its actual 2020 Free Dining packages soon? For years now, Disney has run a special offer giving guests a free Disney Dining Plan with their purchase of various vacation packages. Free Dining basically means you’re paying zero for your food, and is super popular! Not only is this a great way to plan ahead and budget, but it also has the potential to save you beaucoup bucks…if it’s done right. It’s also one of the many ways that Disney draws in guests each year! BUT…the million dollar question is always: WHEN is Disney going to announce Free Dining?? Read about how to how to maximize your Disney Dining Plan credits here! Enchanted Rose When Will Disney Announce Free Dining for 2020? Let’s break it down and see if we can figure out some potential timeframes: 2019’s Free Dining promotion was announced in early January for guests booking trips in the late summer to mid-fall when crowds generally tend to thin out at Disney World. This was UNPRECEDENTED. We’d seen Free Dining announced in April for years, and were expecting it in April again! But, alas, January 2nd was the sweet spot for Free Dining in 2019. But THEN…the plot THICKENED! In July this year, Disney released a SECOND unprecedented round of free dining dates for the late fall to winter season — even extending free dining stays over Thanksgiving and Christmas, some of the BUSIEST times to visit Disney World! Mickey Waffles at The Plaza Restaurant So we expected April 2019 based on previous years, but we got January and July?!? Well, we think the double Free Dining in 2019 had a lot to do with Galaxy’s Edge. Disney expected massive crowds in the Fall for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and may have run the Free Dining promotion in late Summer to pull in guests earlier, ideally alleviating some of the Fall crowds. But perhaps those expected Fall crowds didn’t materialize — at least not on the booking engines — and so Disney ran the Free Dining promotion again for Fall and Winter to bolster lagging hotel sales during that timeframe. What does that mean for 2020? Could Disney totally be flipping the script on us again and release its 2020 Free Dining at any moment? If this year’s taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected! So we’re gonna be ready in early January for an announcement! Here Are Three Things You Need To Do To Snag 2020 Free Dining As Soon As It’s Announced! FYI, y’all, free dining goes FAST! Yep, it sells out very quickly, so you want to be able to jump on it and take advantage ASAP. Dessert is basically one of the essential food groups, in our opinion. Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe Desserts And, pie? It’s definitely higher up on the scale of deliciousness. Whenever we’re in the parks, we’re always on the hunt for some seriously great pie, and last year we tasted AH-MAZING mini pies from Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes. But, shhh! We’re letting you in on a possible Disney World secret that might have you running to your grocery store instead of Animal Kingdom to satisfy your sweet tooth. We got a scoop from a reader that there was a similar sumthin’ sumthin’ to the Mini Mango Pie offered at Yak & Yeti found at Kroger and Publix, so we had to go take a bite (y’know, for research purposes!!). Kenny’s Mini Mango Pie had a shortbread cookie crust and a purée of fresh mangoes as the filling. Kenny’s Mini Mango Pie After we took off the packaging (and smelled all that mango-y goodness)… Kenny’s Mini Mango Pie … We thought it looked pretty similar to the Mini Mango Pie in Animal Kingdom, right down to the slightly crumbly crust. Mini Mango Pie at Yak & Yeti The appearance wasn’t the only thing that was similar, you guys. The pie itself tasted REMARKABLY like the one served at Yak & Yeti with its thick buttery crust and sweet —yet tart— mango flavor. Kenny’s Mini Mango Pie While we can’t confirm that Disney World uses Kenny’s Pies, we did some digging on the company’s website and saw that their Mini Chocolate Silk Pie… Kenny’s Mini Chocolate Silk Pie … Also looks a lot like the same one we tried at Yak & Yeti! Mini Chocolate Silk Cake at Yak & Yeti Coincidence?? We think not! You can get the Mini Mango Pie and Mini Chocolate Silk Pie both from Kroger and Publix for $1.99, which is LESS THAN HALF the price of the $4.99 pies in Animal Kingdom (!!!). Plus, if you really love the flavors of these desserts, you can even get full 9″ pies in some stores. Full Kenny’s Pies Even though Disney World dessert crawls are the BEST, you can head to the store instead of the parks for these little guys! Have you tried Kenny’s Pies before? When Disneyland Resort’s White Water Snacks was renamed GCH (that’s Grand Californian Hotel) Craftsman Grill earlier this year (read all about it here!), we hoped the quick service spot wouldn’t lose its charm or its tasty menu of eats. The verdict? The restaurant remained as charming as ever (no changes besides signage, that we can see). And the menu? Still delicious. GCH Craftsman Grill Snacks Seating Area We enjoyed the crunchy and creative End of Summer Slaw Dog in August (read our review!), and we almost never turn down a cupcake or a donut here. This month’s WILD DOG is super awesome as well — here’s our review of that one! (This duo celebrating Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was colorful and tasty!) And we’ve found White Water Snacks to produce some great outside-the-Park-gates breakfast, too. And now that White Water Snacks is GCH Craftsman Grill, we’re back for more morning eats! The breakfast menu at Craftsman Grill is small but powerful with an array of options that include classics and spins on classics. And our Disneyland correspondent Heather (breaking the Insta-fast @DiningInDisney!) has found a few breakfast entrees you have to put on your Disneyland Resort dining bucket list ASAP. Craftsman Grill Breakfast Menu We’re starting with a Breakfast Burrito: a warm, handheld option packed with scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon bits, and tater tots. This was one of the items we loved on our last breakfast visit, and it did not disappoint. It’s served up with sour cream and pico de gallo for some freshness. Breakfast Burrito It looks chaotic inside, but the combination of tater tots, eggs, and bacon bits (distributed throughout like little nuggets of salty pork gold) is filling, delicious, and really decent sustenance if you’re heading into a Park after. (Maybe let yourself digest for a bit before jumping onto Guardians…). Note that the previous incarnation of the Breakfast Burrito did not contain bacon, so if you’re vegetarian, see if they can make one for you without the bacon. Breakfast Burrito The Avocado Toast is a fresh-tasting and relatively light breakfast option. It’s comprised of grilled sourdough, crushed (and guacamole-like) avocado, two poached eggs, pomegranate seeds and drizzle, olive oil, parsley, and (surprise, surprise!) celery leaf salad! Avocado Toast The freshness of the herbs (parsley plus the celery leaf) really elevates this toast, and the pomegranate drizzle and seeds are an interesting, sweet-sour addition. Definitely worth a try if you’re a fan of the components. Avocado Toast But Heather’s favorite dish of the morning — and one she insists we all order as soon as humanly possible — was Biscuit French Toast. (Has anyone else tried this? Is this a thing? How is this not a thing?) Biscuit French Toast These buttermilk biscuits are given the French toast treatment, and served with toffee sauce (sorry: TOFFEE SAUCE!!!!!) and bruleed bananas. The Biscuit French Toast is topped. with. bacon. Biscuit French Toast This entree is a fantastic balance of salty (toffee sauce, smoky bacon) and sweet (bruleed bananas, also toffee sauce). And the texture of the bruleed bananas? Delightful. Biscuit French Toast, we are HERE for this. Biscuit French Toast Call it whatever you want, if GCH Craftsman Grill serves up dishes like these that combine thoughtful flavors and fresh ingredients, it’s going to be a restaurant to return to over and over again. And the fact that it’s quick service? And doesn’t require a Park ticket to enjoy it? That’s the real crafts, man. Where do you breakfast at Disneyland Resort? Let us know in the comments below! Namaste from a very relaxed DFB team in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! The Tree of Life Between soaring on the back of a Banshee, barely escaping carnivorous dinosaurs, and going on a two-week safari, we were beat! So we decided to pay a visit to one of our favorite places to relax: the Nomad Lounge! The Nomad Lounge is conveniently located on the pathway towards Pandora. You’ll find it attached to Animal Kingdom’s Signature Restaurant Tiffins. It’s easily accessible from Discovery Island, Africa, and Pandora — but we enjoy it so we’d even make the trek across the park! Nomad Lounge Atmosphere The Nomad Lounge is designed to be a traveler’s retreat. You’ll spot banners with wild animals and exotic locations hanging from the ceilings, as well as curtains that are reminiscent of the mosquito nets you’d need in far-off places. Nomad Lounge The seating is comfy, with large cushy chairs and sofas set up in little groups for your party. Nomad Lounge Seating Area You can also sit at the bar if you’d prefer! Nomad Lounge Bar We love the cushy seats, but our favorite part of the Nomad Lounge interior is above our heads. Around the ceiling are questions intended to spark conversation with your family — or maybe even a friendly fellow traveler! Travel Questions Another of the best features of the Lounge is the giant wrap around porch. Nomad Lounge Porch The porch faces a “river” and trees, and truly makes you feel like you are in an exotic oasis! Nomad Lounge Porch View Toto, we aren’t in a theme park anymore! (Except we ARE. Which is crazy right?!) During our visit it was quite nice out (read, less than 95 degrees) so we opted to sit at a big comfy booth outside. Outdoor Seating Now that we’re all comfortably seated, let’s get to eatin’ and drinkin’! If you want to see MORE photos of the Nomad Lounge decor, check out our full photo tour here! Eats One of the best things about the Nomad Lounge (and the attached Tiffins), are the signature cocktails. They have several options that aren’t available anywhere else on property. Previously, we’ve tried the Hightower Rocks, Leaping Lizard, and the Night Monkey. Hightower Rocks But today, we decided to sample a new cocktail — and hopefully find a new favorite! Nomad Lounge Menu First up, we chose the Snow Leopard Salvation. It’s main ingredient is Snow Leopard Vodka, which donates a portion of their proceeds to protecting the endangered big cat. Cocktails and helping a big kitty? Yes please. Snow Leopard Salvation In addition to the vodka, the Snow Leopard Salvation is made with Belle de Brillet Pear Liqueur, Mint, and Lime Juice topped with Ginger Beer and garnished with fresh mint and a lime. Snow Leopard Salvation We loved this drink! The mint and lime were very refreshing — perfect for a warm day on the porch. We also enjoyed the kick from the Ginger Beer, which gave the cocktail an “exotic” twist. It wasn’t overwhelming, though, like some other ginger beer drinks we’ve tried, so even if you aren’t a huge Mule fan, you might still like this. Nomad Lounge Menu We also opted for the Sinaloa Sangria. Our server let us know that unlike lots of Sangria at Walt Disney World, this is made FRESH at the lounge (aka not Beso Del Sol from a box) and that sold us! Sinoloa Sangria The Sinaloa Sangria is made with Miquel Torres Rosé Wine, Barsol Quebranta Pisco, and fresh Fruit. The Chilean sparkling rosé made the drink incredibly refreshing, and it was perfect for patio sippin’! Unlike lots of sangria on property, this one wasn’t sickly syrupy or overly sweet, with just the right amount of dry from the wine. We loved it! Simple and beautiful, this one made my favorites list. Next up, time to pick out a few small plates. Nomad Lounge Small Plates Menu In the past we’ve enjoyed the Pork Ribs, Vegetarian Sliders, and Truffle Poutine, so today we decided to sample some different offerings. First up, the Tiffins Bread Service. Tiffins Bread Service This very-shareable plate is presented in an adorable manner — it reminded us of campfire chic. The Tiffins Bread Service comes with various types of breads, as well as three unique spreads served in…tiffins, which are basically metal lunchboxes. Let’s take a closer look at what comes with this set up — starting with the breads. Tiffins Bread Service Breads There is a Pomegranate Foccacia bread, which happens to be Tiffins Signature recipe. This bread is nice and moist, with a slight hint of sweetness from the pomegranate. Pomegranate Foccacia Bread The second bread option is a crispy piece of baked pita, which reminds us of a tortilla chip. It doesn’t have much flavor, but it’s got a nice crunch and is a perfect blank canvas for the dips. Crispy Pita And lastly, a veggie pita bread which was soft in texture. It’s nice and soft, but still sturdy enough to load dip onto. We really enjoyed the hint of garlic and subtle pepper flavor throughout. Veggie Pita Bread Now what will you be able to slather onto those carbs? Three delectable spreads. Tiffins Bread Service Dips First up, a coriander yogurt. This dip was very creamy (not shocking as the main ingredient is yogurt), and the coriander was a fun spice to highlight. It’s not overwhelming, but if you’re not a fan of yogurt-based dips or coriander, this one likely won’t be your favorite. Creamy Coriander Yogurt The second dip is a Curry Chutney. This one was the table favorite, thanks to the strong curry spices that came through along with the chunky-but-not-too-chunky texture. Curry Salsa And finally, a Fig Tapenade. This was certainly the sweetest of the trio, with a strong fig flavor through the spread. Fig Tapenade Overall, we really enjoyed the Tiffins Bread Service, and the ability to mix and match the dips and breads. Some of our table’s favorite combos were the Curry Chutney and Crispy Pita (almost like Indian chips & salsa) and the Pomegranate Foccacia with Fig Tapenade (the sweetest two items worked well). This dish comes with a very generous portion, making it one of the most shareable options on the menu — perfect to accompany afternoon cocktails with a friend! We also were eager to try the Wagyu Beef Sliders. Wagyu Beef Sliders The sliders come as a pair, are topped with Tomato-Pear Jam and are served with Yucca Fries. Wagyu Beef Slider Cross-Section These were FABULOUS. The meat was moist and tasty, all on its own. And we really enjoyed the slightly sweet Tomato-pear Jam as a compliment to the savory, perfect beef. And the buns were simple and chewy, but solid enough to hold up to the patty. Wagyu Beef Sliders – Tomato-Pear Jam We’re glad they kept it simple with the sliders. And we’re glad they come with yucca fries! These crunchy, golden beauties are a simple star in their own right. They have a very similar taste to regular fries, but slightly more starchy. We love them dipped in ketchup provided! Side of Yucca Fries And pro-tip: you can order the yucca fries without the sliders! It’s not on the menu, but just ask. We highly recommend it if you’re sharing the sliders with someone. Overall Overall, our return visit to the Nomad Lounge was a delight. The unique cocktails were refreshing and the perfect way to cool off during a hot day in Animal Kingdom. The small plates we tried were tasty and perfect for a hearty snack, or even a meal depending on how hungry you are! The food is a bit adventurous, so it’s possible the pickiest eaters won’t consider this their first choice — but for most, the small but mighty menu will likely have something appealing. But truly, the best thing about the Nomad Lounge is the location. It feels like an exotic oasis, far away from theme park crowds. The cast members there have always been a highlight for us, and super knowledgable. A visit to the Nomad Lounge is the perfect way to spend a relaxing hour in Animal Kingdom — we promise you’ll leave refreshed and ready to climb Everest! Want more Animal Kingdom Must-Eats? Schinkennudeln: Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions, and Cheese (KA) – $4.25, DDP Snack Eligible Behold– The Schinkennudeln! This is our highlight of the Germany booth. Schinkennudeln: Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions, and Cheese The portion size isn’t quite as large as some of the others on this list, but the level of richness of this offering might knock you down for the count! There’s plenty to share here (though you may not want to!). Jerk-spiced Chicken with Roasted Sweet Plantain Salad and Mango Chutney Yogurt (GF) – $5.50, DDP Snack Eligible While this dish has been on the menu at Islands of the Caribbean for a few years now, it hasn’t been a stunner until this year. Now, much to the delight of the noses of passersby, the Jerk-spiced Chicken is finally getting the attention it deserves and is being cooked over an outdoor grill! Jerk-spiced Chicken with Roasted Sweet Plantain Salad and Mango Chutney Yogurt The portion is quite generous and definitely will need a fork and knife to tackle. Served over a bed of sweet roasted plantains and drizzled with a mango chutney sauce, these tropical flavors have us longing for an island getaway! Beef Brisket Poutine – $8.99 The menu at Refreshment Port is our daily reminder that most of life’s problems can be solved with a massive pile of fries! If you need something a little more rib-sticking to help you push through your day, grab these fries drenched in smokey brisket, beer cheese sauce (!!!) and gravy. Beef Brisket Poutine This won’t count as a Disney Dining Plan snack credit, unfortunately, but it’s well worth the dough for the big ol’ pile of crispy gooey meaty yumminess you’ll receive! This is definitely best shared amongst friends! Wanting to get a coveted spot at Be Our Guest? Trying to squeeze in a breakfast at Chef Mickey’s? Be Our Guest Ballroom Then, you might want to keep your fingers hovering over that keyboard because the Disney Reservation Center has officially announced My Disney Experience and the Walt Disney World website as their preferred method of booking and modifying table-service dining reservations. According to the Disney website, “Due to their overwhelming popularity, the My Disney Experience app and DisneyWorld.com will become the preferred home for booking and modifying table service dining reservations…” Disney Dining Reservations “Rest assured, as always, cast members at the Disney Reservation Center will continue to be available to help with reservations for groups of eight or more, same-day cancelations, in addition to other assistance guests may need, including Disney Resort hotel reservations, special offers, general questions and more.” Chef Mickey’s That certainly sounds like they want you to stick to online methods of booking when possible! We recently spoke to a Disney Reservation Cast Member to modify a Dining Reservation and, while they were still able to help, we were directed to modify our reservation ourselves on the Disney World website. You’ll definitely want to set an alarm for that booking availability, starting 180 days prior to your arrival date! We all have taken a few room souvenirs home from our stay at a Disney resort (I LOVE the smell of the shampoo — it sends me on serious vacay nostalgia). And, although you can get the full-size H2O+ bottles at many of the resort stores and online, sometimes the travel bottles are nifty little guys to keep with you for other trips you may go on. Disney Conservation Fund Goals However, in order to participate in conservation efforts, Disney has only somewhat recently started to stray away from those plastic bottles and towards refillable canisters in hotel rooms. But, a new law in California is about to nudge those efforts along a lot faster. California Governor Gavin Newsom just announced a law that will ban hotels from providing its guests with plastic shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or soap bottles. The new law, effective in 2023, will mostly impact hotels with more than 50 guests rooms. However, it will also change smaller resorts’ policies with less than 50 guests rooms in 2024. California hotels will definitely want to pay attention because they could be fined $500 for a first offense and $2,000 for any violations after that. Disneyland Hotel So, what does this mean for your stay at a Disney resort? Gran Destino Deluxe Suite – Club Access Currently, Disney Parks and the Disney Cruise Line have made some major changes by getting rid of plastic bags, opting for paper straws, and changing the MagicBand packaging. While they’re currently reducing plastic usage, the Disney Conservation Fund has still projected to make bigger changes in the resorts over the next few years by reducing in-room plastics by 80%. Paper Straws in the Disney Parks And, although Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line have started to use refillable toiletries, they aren’t everywhere just yet. Disneyland, on the other hand, is going to have to get with the picture sooner rather than later with the new law just around the corner. Refillable Toiletries If you’re getting ready for a Disney trip, you’ll have to reconsider if you want to be able to take your toiletries home with you. Even if you don’t want to travel with shampoo and conditioner on the way there, it might be a good idea to pack a few empty travel bottles to fill with the H2O+ products on the way back (if you love it as much as we do). H20+ Products Just save them for the next trip you go on, whether it’s Disney or another journey! ‘Cause adventure is out there!!
