  1. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we’re releasing special poster art inspired by the Mickey short “Yodelberg” in our ongoing series celebrating the March 4 debut of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! As you can see, our new “Yodelberg” poster features Mickey longing to visit Minnie at her mountain chalet. In the video short, Mickey realizes that a potential avalanche and some unexpected surprises threaten to put an end to their yodeling duet. You’ll soon be able to experience the surprises of Mickey’s cartoon universe like never before at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. During each adventure, you’ll enter the NEW Mickey Mouse cartoon short “Perfect Picnic” for an one-of-a-kind adventure where anything can happen. Why? Because here, mouse rules apply! And before experiencing Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, you’ll see posters of these existing award-winning shorts that might have previously premiered at the Chinese Theatre – all created specifically for the attraction by Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Television Animation. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for more exclusive poster art inspired by the video shorts in the coming weeks. In the meantime, be sure to check out the “Yodelberg” short for a look inside an amazing cartoon universe you’ll be able to enjoy at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway beginning March 4, 2020, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and later at Disneyland park in 2022. 8. It’s February 13, which means it’s Villaintine’s Day! Today is the day the Disney Parks Blog celebrates all things Disney villain. Why celebrate villains? Because without them, there would be no Disney heroes! Think about it. Every terrific hero must have a suitable foe, like Peter Pan and Captain Hook in “Peter Pan,” Aladdin and Jafar in “Aladdin,” Anna and Prince Hans in “Frozen,” and so many others. Disney Villains also have some of the most memorable songs in a film, like Scar’s cunning “Be Prepared” in Disney’s “The Lion King”; Dr. Facilier’s ominous “Friends on the Other Side” from “The Princess and the Frog”; and Tamatoa’s crabulous “Shiny” in “Moana.” Disney villains add so much character to Disney films – and they’re equally memorable to spot at our parks, whether it’s watching “Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade,” playing Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, or attending a Disney Villains After Hours event at Magic Kingdom Park. This year, we’re encouraging you to honor this cast of quirky characters by downloading and sharing these Villaintine’s Day cards. Please be sure to check out the terms of use before you download these. View the full article
  9. Before everything goes to sweetness and light, let’s take a day to celebrate the decidedly wicked…or at least Disney wicked! Designer, LeeAnn Clayton, has created an Ursula wallpaper featuring one of our favorite villains casting an eerie glow on her sweet invitation. Ursula knows all about being wicked – she is a sea witch after all! Add this wallpaper to your desktop or mobile device now, and please be sure to check out the terms of use about using the wallpaper before you download it. Stay tuned to the blog this week to see what our other designers have come up with! View the full article
  10. It was a big week for those planning a Walt Disney World vacation! Cinderella Castle The recent price increases may have thrown a curve ball at your upcoming trip, but amongst the madness a new ticket add-on option was added! The new Water Park and Sports Option can be added to the existing One Park Per Day option, the most basic ticket available. With this new option, you’ll have access to one theme park of your choice AND you can visit one water park, golf course OR a sports facility. This includes Blizzard Beach Water Park, Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, NBA Experience, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course, and the Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course. Enjoy a day at Blizzard Beach! I’m sure you’re thinking… Is it worth it to buy this option? The biggest thing about the Water Park and Sports option is that it’s a flat rate of $70.00, as opposed to the sliding scale pricing of the Park Hopper. With the Water Parks costing outright $69.00 and the other options’ entry fees considerably cheaper, we’re not seeing the benefit in purchasing this ticket add-on just yet. As always, you can still buy any water park ticket or sports ticket at any time during your vacation, so we’re curious to see how long this very niche option lasts. Learn More About Walt Disney World’s Recent Price Hikes Here! What do you think of this Walt Disney World ticket add-on? Let us know! 15. We’ve recently noticed that many of the Joffrey’s Coffee and Tea Company locations throughout Disney World are no longer serving one of our caffeinated staples — a.k.a. the Frozen Cappuccino! Joffrey’s Kona Mocha And in its place, there’s a new drink called the Frozen Kona Mocha. Who does this guy think he is moving in on Frozen Cappuccino’s territory?! We were feeling a little uneasy about the change-up, so we stopped by our favorite spaceport today to refuel and sample this new colder-than-cold brew concoction! The menu we saw today at Joffrey’s Revive in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland shows that the Frozen Kona Mocha has officially stepped in as the Frozen Cappuccino replacement — which is mysteriously no longer listed! Joffrey’s Menu We’re not sure if the Frozen Cappuccino is gone for good or will reappear someday, but in the meantime, you’ll be able to get your coffee slushy fix with the Frozen Kona Mocha instead! We’ve seen it on the menu so far at just about every Joffrey’s kiosk in Magic Kingdom. Joffrey’s Kona Mocha The Frozen Kona Mocha has a strong chocolatey aftertaste, but as far as we could tell, the flavor wasn’t overpowering to coffee. We were big fans of the Frozen Cappuccino at Joffrey’s, and we think the Frozen Kona Mocha is equally delicious. Not too sweet like a frozen frappuccino from Starbucks can be sometimes! The Frozen Kona Mocha was also especially hard to drink with just the sippy cup lid, so do yourself a favor and grab a straw ’cause this puppy’s THICK! Joffrey’s Kona Mocha You can get the Frozen Kona Mocha for $5.69 at most Disney World Joffrey’s locations, so try one for yourself today and let us know what you think! And if you’re looking for a sweet treat to enjoy with it, take a look at these classic treats you’ll find over on Main Street, U.S.A. that just received holiday makeovers HERE! 17. It may technically be winter in Central Florida but we are still feeling them 80+ degree days (and we’re not complaining one bit)! Beautiful day in Walt Disney World! When we’re looking to beat the heat, our childhood favorite, LEMONADE, usually does the trick. On a trip to check out the Golden Oak Outpost in Disney’s Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the milkshakes were gone! They are now offering an Odwalla Lemonade Slushy and Sweet Tea Slushy that reminds us of the Lemonade and Sweet Tea Slushy they used to serve at Columbia Harbour House! Golden Oak Outpost Menu Both the Sweet Tea Slushy and Odwalla Lemonade Slushy are available separately, BUT you can combine them to create the drink made famous by the professional golfer Arnold Palmer! Lemonade and Sweet Tea Slushy Ours was a little heavy on the tea flavor but if you enjoy sweet tea, then this is the drink for you! This will definitely go down easy peasy lemon squeezy on those HOT Florida days! Lemonade and Sweet Tea Slushy Grab the Odwalla Lemonade and Sweet Tea Slushy for $5.49 from Golden Oak Outpost in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. 19. Y’ALL. We have seen a TON of Valentine’s Day cupcakes in Disney World this season. It seems like every day they roll out another one for us to try out, like the Chocolate Covered Raspberry Cupcake. Chocolate Covered Raspberry Cupcake Fun over-the-top flavors are great, but sometimes you just need a good, old-fashioned cupcake like the one we found one at Magic Kingdom’s Confectionery. We found this the a classic treat with a new seasonal look! This Valentine’s Day Cupcake is a classic red velvet cupcake topped with cream cheese buttercream icing, crunchy pearls, and chocolate ears. Valentine’s Day Cupcake While we enjoyed the classic flavors, the cream cheese icing hardly had any flavor. Overall, this would be a good pick for picky eaters in the group or if you’re just looking for a more toned down cupcake. 20. Disney takes immense precautions to make sure that its theme parks are a safe environment for everybody, but sometimes accidents happen, even at Disneyland. Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland A fire began on February 6th in Disneyland Park, but was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire has now been determined by state agencies. According to the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health spokesperson Frank Polizzi, as reported by the Orange County Register, “The fire was related to a generator supplying power to a building.” The fire backstage at Disneyland ©Orange County Register The fire originally erupted in a backstage area between the Disneyland Firehouse and the Emporium. The fire did manage to burn some of the landscape surrounding the Jungle Cruise before Anaheim Fire and Rescue as well as Disneyland’s own fire department extinguished the flames. Disneyland Fire Department While the fire did force Adventureland to be temporarily closed and caused isolated power outages, Orange County Register reports, “Disneyland officials said no visitors or employees were injured by the fire and no buildings were damaged.” While it can be scary to see things like this fire in the parks, Disney does take every step imaginable to make sure that their guests are safe and they do their best to resolve to fix any safety hazard as quickly as possible. 22. The Galactic Grill serves up counter service eats (and even some stellar Star Wars souvenirs) in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. Galactic Grill And a fun new find on the menu these days is a glittery galactic sweet that you can’t help but stare at before eating… Check out the Galactic Parfait! Galactic Parfait This “galaxy Parfait” layers blue cheesecake over a bit of chocolate cake and a mound of purple mousse at the bottom together with raspberry marmalade. Galactic Parfait The entire dessert is finished with a “Glitter Glaze” complete with edible silver stars and a hollow milk chocolate piece (which is slightly reminiscent of the Death Star in appearance). Galactic Parfait The components of this dessert — cake, cheesecake, and mousse — come together to make one very, very, VERY sweet treat. Galactic Parfait The raspberry marmalade does bring a bit of balance to the taste. And while we’d like to think that’s a bit of the Force in action, it really offers just a hint of flavor variation against the sugar rush. Galactic Parfait We highly recommend ordering some water to go along with it… we think you’ll need it after all that! We sure did. If you do choose to try the Galactic Parfait, you’ll find it at Galactic Grill for $5.99. Of course, you may be thinking, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” Galactic Parfait So which one will it be for you? Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! 24. If you were hoping to hear a rendition of “Gravity Blues” at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Disney World, it looks like you might have to wait a bit. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe After making a stellar return from his last road trip, our favorite inter-planetary DJ has once again left the building to planets unknown. We were sad to see that Sonny Eclipse, the cool cat from Planet Zork and a total wizard on the keys, wasn’t playing his setlist on stage again today. When we stopped by this past weekend he was missing from the stage and we were hoping he’d quickly return but, alas, he seems to be taking an extended leave of absence! Sonny Eclipse has left the building It’s not the same in Cosmic Ray’s right now without the corny jokes and those out-of-this-world tracks. Where did you go, Sonny? Sonny Eclipse when he’s usually entertaining We know it’s not too uncommon for Sonny to go missing. He IS an intergalactic superstar and can’t spend ALL his time in Cosmic Ray’s, after all! We don’t know how long Sonny’s planning on staying out on tour, but hopefully he doesn’t stay away too long and jets back into Tomorrowland soon! We’ll keep you posted when Sonny makes his glorious return back to Cosmic Ray’s! Do you know all the words to “Planetary Boogie” by heart? Let us know down in the comments! 25. Magic Happens is about to make history as it becomes Disneyland’s newest daytime parade! ©Disney Magic Happens Parade And while you’ll have to wait until February 28th to stake out your viewing spot for Magic Happens first shimmy down Main Street U.S.A. (or you can just snag a Magic Happens dining package which INCLUDES reserved viewing!) we had the opportunity to check a few things out a little early! We’ve already seen some of the artists’ renderings of the new floats and sketches of the costumes performers will be wearing when Magic Happens debuts, but we’ve learned so many new details about the parade and now we’re more excited than EVER! Magic Happens took 2 and a half years from concept to completion — so you can imagine how much heart, soul, and Disney’s signature attention to detail they’ve put into it! Magic Happens Concept Art ©Disney Disney used three main words for inspiration while creating Magic Happens — contemporary, artistic and whimsical. The modern soundtrack co-written by recording artist and performer Todrick Hall and choreography best embodies the contemporary feel Disney was going for, while the artistic element comes through in the fashion-forward costumes and floats which they described as “moving pieces of art.” Whimsical qualities are exemplified by “Disney magic” which is both whimsical and joyous! Todrick Hall Although you’ll have to wait to see the stunning new floats, to us, they look almost exactly like drawings! There are so many techniques used and details to look at! We also saw the new costumes in person. These feature stunning textures, fabrics, and a mixture of materials such as metallic heat pressed-vinyl that’s made to look like metal, laser cutting, riveting, and heavily embroidered elements! ©Disney See more drawings of the Magic Happens costumes here! Mickey’s float will come out first adorned with ribbons and waves of magic! The dancers will represent aspects of magic in their wardrobe and movement. And Mickey will be accompanied by Minnie, Goofy, and Chip ‘n Dale all outfitted in similar matching purple costumes like we’ve never seen before! They’re definitely more on the abstract side than the classic, traditional attire we’re used to seeing them in! ©Disney Moana is next and it’s true artistry in motion! Her float has huge, flexible LED screens that play images of the ocean’s waves! Disney says they wanted guests to see the magic of the ocean through Moana’s eyes! There are also tons of hidden Easter eggs to look for! ©Disney And while Maui and Pua will be chillin’ on their own little float (you’re welcome), we’re the MOST excited to see the remote-controlled Hei-Hei in his spinning basket along with performers dressed like the Kakamora! ©Disney Magic Happens Following Moana, we’ll get to see Coco! Miguel’s family are amazingly-detailed animatronics while the dancers are dressed as alebrije or like Miguel’s spirit animal, Dante! ©Disney After Coco, you’ll finally get to see the Frozen 2 chapter of the parade! The new Frozen 2 float was worked on simultaneously by the same production team that made the film! It features a new color scheme with a “fall-look” and even has an animatronic Sven on the back! Disney also told us “Elsa will be making it snow” — while we’re not exactly sure what this means, we can’t wait to see it! You’ll see performers representing nature made to look like trees with fantastic special effects makeup! ©Disney And now the grand finale! For the big ending of the Magic Happens parade, the storytellers wanted to include lots of Disney characters while freezing them in magical moments in time! You’ll get to see Cinderella with a stained glass music box float that looks like a pumpkin! Cinderella Float ©Disney There will also be The Sword in the Stone’s float. Arthur will be pulling the sword out of the stone, you know, just like in the movie! Sword in the Stone Float ©Disney A Princess and the Frog float will be next and it’s an exact replica of the one from the film. The colors of this one are especially stunning! Princess and the Frog Float ©Disney And the last float will be Sleeping Beauty-themed! Princess Aurora will be wearing a dress that shifts from pink to blue with some new technology! Her royal float is also embellished with a super shiny gold finish and almost 100 unique tapestries! ©Disney We can’t wait to see Magic Happens retell some of our favorite classic Disney stories and along with some new stories that haven’t been told in parades yet! We’ll be reporting live from Disneyland for Magic Happens inaugural run, so stay tuned! Check out our ultimate list of attractions that are coming soon to Disneyland (and Disney World) HERE!
