  4. We all love a good love story, and this #FeelGoodFriday, we have one that’s “on par” with the best of them. Renz Guiao first met cast member Dom Perry through a mutual friend, and the two hit it off immediately. Once Renz knew she was the one, he decided to surprise Dom with a proposal where they shared their first date – Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf. Cast members at the mini-golf location were excited about the idea and jumped right in to help Renz create an “un-fore-gettable” moment. “They were incredible!” Dom recalled, “They gave us some space but were close enough to get really nice shots and even took video of the entire proposal. They were really respectful of the moment.” After Dom said “Yes,” the cast members came together to create a tunnel of golf clubs for the newly engaged couple to walk through. Then, just as they turned around, it began to snow. “That was so special,” Dom added. “They didn’t have to add anything, they could have just been there, but they really participated in the moment and made it so much more special than either of us had imagined.” Congratulations on your “hole-in-one” engagement, Dom and Renz! We hope this magical moment has you feelin’ the love as you go into your own Valentine’s Day weekend! View the full article
  5. It’s finally here!! Valentine’s Day has swooped in (and struck us with Cupid’s arrow)! La Cava del Tequila And, while there are SO MANY things to do in Disney World for the holiday, we’re ready to get our sip on at one of our fav places to grab a drink in Epcot! Just in time for Valentine’s, the Pomegranate Margarita is looking as pretty as ever at La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico Pavilion! Pomegranate Margarita and Heart-shaped Jello Shot The drink has a rose petal salt rim (!!!). And in celebration of Valentine’s Day, La Cava is also giving away a margarita gelatin heart AKA a jello shot with every purchase! Rose Petal Salt Rim While the rose petal salt rim has been at Frontera Cocina, it’s new to La Cava! Buuut, as we were sipping on the drink, we didn’t really taste the rose. The pomegranate seeds and salt overpower the rose petals just a bit too much (even though we would have loved to have a hint of rose). Although we could hardly taste the rose, we did still enjoy the salt rim! And rim didn’t affect how SUPER tasty the marg is! The drink has more of a classic flavor with the mix of the pomegranate juice. Pomegranate Margarita The addition of the slightly floral jello shot makes the whole thing delicious and a fun way to celebrate the holiday! (Plus, your Insta pics will look sooo cute.) We were able or order both to-go so we could enjoy them as we continued our journey around Epcot. Heart-shaped Jello Shots Um, chips and queso with the Pomegranate Margarita sounds like the PERFECT way to spend Valentine’s Day in the Disney Parks! Check out all of the Valentine’s Day drinks and treats in Disney World here! Will you be grabbing the Pomegranate Margarita for Valentine’s Day today? Let us know in the comments below! 6. Today is Valentine’s Day — which can either be a good or bad thing depending on how lucky in love you are! Dockside Margaritas at Disney Springs Marketplace But no matter if you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day, Dockside Margaritas in Disney Springs has some fun-themed drinks for the occasion! All month long they’re serving up two specialty drinks — one for those who’ve met their special prince or princess, and one for those who, well, let’s just say you haven’t found your happily ever after yet! You can toast to romance with the Sweetheart Punch, a lovely concoction made from Malibu coconut rum, BOLS peach schnapps, and pineapple juice! To say that it closely resembles the Imagination Pink Punch is putting it mildly. As you may recall the Imagination Pink Punch also featured coconut rum, peach schnapps, and tropical juices along with a pink sugar rim and a pineapple wedge for it’s finishing touch! The Sweetheart Punch is nearly identical except it’s made with coconut rum, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, and sour mix. It’s also a little more on the red side and it’s garnished with an orange wedge! Sweetheart Punch Read more about the Imagination Pink Punch here! We found the flavor or the Sweetheart Punch to be very strong and tart! Just like we found with the Imagination Pink Punch, the Malibu coconut rum really shined through. The sugared rim was really yummy too, and we found ourselves sipping the drink without the straw so we could balance out that tartness with the sweetness of the pink sugar. Sweetheart Punch Click here for the Ultimate Guide to Valentine’s Day Treats in Disney World! But like we mentioned, even if you’re not a fan of Valentine’s Day, Dockside Margaritas still has your back with their Black Heart Margarita! It features tequila, orange liqueur, black cherry syrup, and sour and lime juices! Black Heart Margarita This one looks like one we’ve seen before as well — in fact, the ingredients are nearly identical to the super popular Black Magic Margarita Dockside was serving during the Halloween season! It looks like they swapped out the sinister-looking black rock salt rim for a reddish sugar rim instead! This version of the drink is served with tequila, Cointreau, sweet and sour mix, and black cherry purée. Black Heart Margarita Read our review of the Black Magic Margarita HERE! The Black Heart Margarita tasted like a delicious, class marg to us with a subtle cherry flavor. This drink was also pretty tart, so we appreciated having the sugar rim instead of the salt rim to enjoy with it! We have a feeling folks of every FaceBook status will be enjoying this one, despite its name! Black Heart Margarita The Sweetheart Punch costs $11.50 while the Black Heart Margarita will set you back $16. And while Valentine’s Day will end at the stroke of midnight tonight (even though we like to think every day is Valentine’s Day!), you’ll be able to order both of these lovelies until the end of February! Which drink would you order — the Sweetheart Punch or the Black Heart Margarita? Let us know in the comments below! Related posts: REVIEW!!! Refurbishments in Epcot Test Track and Test Track SIMporium Test Track and Test Track SIMporium remains surrounded by construction as they receive some TLC. Refurbishments in Disney World Water Parks Typhoon Lagoon And if you’re a water park kind of person, you’ll want to head towards Blizzard Beach. Typhoon Lagoon Refurbishments in Disneyland Haunted Mansion Now, across the country, work blazes on behind many, many scrims in Disneyland. Haunted Mansion, for instance, is receiving some UPDATES (oooooh!) and will reopen with a few potential changes in the springtime. Haunted Mansion Construction Tarps Check out everything we know about the Haunted Mansion closure! Snow White’s Scary Adventures “I’m wishing…I’m wishing…” for Snow White to come back! Another significant set of construction barriers is up over in Fantasyland to hide the work being done on Snow White’s Scary Adventures. Imagineering teams are working to bring a new scene and a new vignette to the attraction, but there’s still no announced reopening date. Snow White’s Scary Adventures construction Click here to learn more about the changes coming to Snow White’s Scary Adventures! King Arthur Carrousel And just across the way, King Arthur Carrousel has matching construction barriers (twinsies!). It takes a lot of work to keep this ornate and historic attraction in tip-top condition, so we haven’t heard a reopening date for this one either. King Arthur Carrousel Want to learn more about the Carrousel closure? Click here! Refurbishments in California Adventure Red Car Trolley With Grizzly River Run back open, the only refurbishment closure in Disney California Adventure is the Red Car Trolley. Much like Magic Kingdom’s railroad, the route for the trolley is interrupted by exciting new construction. That’s right, it’s Avengers Campus so we’ll hope that the trolley returns to service with the opening of the new land in the summer. Big Red Cars billboard Click here to learn more about the upcoming Avengers Campus! And there you have it! That’s alllllll of the refurbs in Disney World and Disneyland this week! Fantasia Collection And while earlier we spotted a new Fantasia Jewelry Collection at Disney World celebrating the 80th-anniversary of the classic film, it was only the beginning! Quite frankly, as much as we loved the Dooney and Bourke AristoCats Collection and Park Life series, they’ve really outdone themselves with the new Fantasia Collection! 13. With the Epcot transformation bringing some MAJOR construction to the park, it looks like it’s finally time to say goodbye to the Electric Umbrella. Electric Umbrella sign While it appeared for some time that the originally slated construction on the restaurant was delayed, the Future World area (where Electric Umbrella is located) is currently undergoing a redesign for the AMAZING new Epcot! And as of today, the Walt Disney World website is listing updated hours for the quick service location. You’ll see in the screenshot below that Electric Umbrella will be open from 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM on February 15, 2020. Electric Umbrella page screenshot However, for dates starting February 16, 2020, the page reads “No Times Available.” Electric Umbrella page screenshot It is worth noting, however, that the webpage has seen changes on this possible closing date from time to time. Still, with the website noting a closing “this winter” regardless, it does seem that the time may be upon us. Electric Umbrella has been a staple quick-service location in Epcot with its chicken nuggets, burgers, desserts, and other eats, and we’ll miss grabbing a burger and fries underneath the glow of those perfectly retro-Epcot neon umbrellas inside. Umbrella Lighting Not to mention the lovely covered seating area outside, from which we enjoyed the view of the Fountain of Nations many a time (well, before the Fountains were closed, too, that is…). Outdoor seating at Electric Umbrella View of the Fountains Still… though we’ll be without the ol’ Umbrella, we won’t be without a few classic quick service eats while in Epcot. 16. It looks like our forever summer vacation may be coming to an end, friends! ©Disney While we’ve been joining the ranks of Agent P to defeat Dr. Doofenshmirtz around Epcot’s World Showcase the past few years, it’s looking like it may be time to say goodbye to one adventure and hello to a new one! Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure in Epcot no longer has times listed beyond February 17th on the Walt Disney World website. Since this is what usually happens when a location closes permanently or even for refurbishment, we have a feeling this could be the end of the line for the Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure. (Insert sad Perry the Platypus noise here.) ©Disney Before the Phineas and Ferb themed attraction came to the parks, guests were able to put their secret agent skills to use previously with the Kim Possible version of the scavenger hunt. But, with the changes coming to Disney Channel and a newer audience, the World Showcase Adventure got a makeover with a platypus detective and evil scientist instead! Phineas and Ferb Ferb, what are we going to do today now that Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure is ending?! Well, you don’t have to worry as this experience is likely going to be replaced with a new one! Remember back in December, when Disney announced that a DuckTales World Showcase Adventure would be making its way to the Disney Parks mobile app soon? Well, we’re thinking that just might be the new experience that will move in if Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure does indeed come to an end on February 17th. ©Disney During the adventure, “guests take a trip around World Showcase discovering exotic destinations, exciting mysteries, and maybe even a few thieves, villains and supernatural guardians of ancient artifacts.” And, we are SO game to spend some time with Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack, Webby, and others during our scavenger hunt! Scrooge McDuck Read more about the DuckTales World Showcase Adventure here! It is important to remember that dates often change in Disney World, so Agent P’s could very well be opened beyond February 17th. So we will be sure to keep you posted on the situation! Although we are sad to see Agent P’s go, we are very excited to see what Disney has in store for this new World Showcase Adventure. 19. Ah, Disney World — the Most Magical Place on Earth and, potentially, also the place with the most construction barriers on Earth! Okay, okay, maybe we’re exaggerating; but there is a LOT of construction in Disney World right now. Just think about all of the different refurbishments we’re seeing around the parks! Construction Outside of Test Track Cool Wash Well, we like to be on top of the closures and construction and upcoming stuff so that YOU guys know how to plan around all of it. And that means keeping an eye on the building permits and patents that Disney World files. Sometimes we see permits for work that’s visible in the parks, like for the upcoming Regal Eagle Smokehouse in Epcot or for the maintenance on Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom. However, a lot of the permits and patents we see are for work that isn’t visible to the public…yet! So, here are a few secret, backstage updates that you CAN’T see in Disney World! While the permits are often vague, the information can be pretty telling as to what’s going on behind the scenes. Construction Update Hollywood Studios Mickey Shorts Theater On January 17th, we spotted TWO permits filed for work over at the address for Mickey Shorts Theater in Hollywood Studios. The first of the permits was for “show-set elements added to [an] existing structure.” With the opening of Mickey Shorts Theater coming up on March 4th, it makes sense that they’re closing in on some of the creative elements of the building. Mickey and Minnie Shorts Theater Speaking of creative elements, the other permit for Mickey Shorts Theater indicated the installation of graphics from a signage company. So, new signage is going up around the theater, behind the scenes. We can’t wait to see it! Want to know more about the Mickey Shorts Theater? Click here! Resort Hotels Fort Wilderness Campground Building There is nearly always construction going on at Disney World’s Resort hotels, so we pulled out a few of the most interesting projects to talk about. First, there’s a whole new building going up at Fort Wilderness Campground! The permit is for a “Back of House” building at Fort Wilderness so it’s likely administrative! Welcome to Fort Wilderness! Disney Springs Le Cirque du Soleil And we’re finishing up our round-up of permits in Disney Springs! We found a permit for Le Cirque du Soleil where Disney World has contracted a service to install new graphics for the upcoming show! We can’t wait for the opening of Drawn to Life that’s coming in March. With such a close opening date, we can’t help but think that these graphics are finishing touches! ©Cirque Du Soliel To learn more about Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life, click here! Patents Sure, Notices of Commencement give us all of the info on current construction projects at Disney World, but we also like to keep an eye on invention patents to see if we can spot any FUTURE projects. As a company on the cutting edge of tech, Disney tends to come up with a lot of inventions (many of them related to the film industry), however, we occasionally spot a patent that could apply to the parks! Augmented-Reality Image Customization First off, we spotted a patent for Image Customization Using a Persona. Essentially, this device would allow the creation of a customized photo experience using augmented reality. A user could select a persona like “cowboy” or “ninja” (or even “Rey” or “Indiana Jones!”) and then pose for a picture. The AR would then apply a costume to the person, whatever pose they’ve chosen. Here’s a figure that sort-of explains the process, but if you’re still confused, don’t worry! ©Disney The good news is a prototype of this invention already exists! Check out the below image for how a person in an AR costume would appear. Remember, the costume is fit to the pose, he hasn’t posed within the costume! It’s pretty neat stuff. ©Disney As for how this patent could be used in the parks? We could totally see a guest-facing experience where you could wear the costume of your favorite character for a souvenir photo. Of course, we’re just guessing as this invention could just as easily be used in film, but it would be really cool to see something like this in the parks! In Epcot’s upcoming Play Pavilion perhaps? We’ll have to wait and see! Pepper’s Ghost in a Vehicle Another interesting patent we’ve found recently is for Auto-Stereo Imaging for Viewing in a Vehicle. That’s a pretty tech-heavy way of saying “Portable Pepper’s Ghost.” “Pepper’s Ghost” is a practical effect using mirrors and light that Disney uses a lot to make it look like there’s a holographic or ghostly figure in the room. You’ve seen a pretty big example in the ballroom scene of Haunted Mansion. All those dancing spirits? They’re Pepper’s Ghost! This new invention would allow a Pepper’s Ghost effect to move along with a ride vehicle creating the opportunity for some pretty cool effects. The patent includes a few examples. In the below image, you can see a Pepper’s ghost projection of a fun fact above a real elephant. ©Disney Potentially, as you rode along a ride, Pepper’s Ghost could make all kinds of images appear in front of the real scene that your ride vehicle is passing. The patent even includes the opportunity for gesture controls! So, a user could scroll through fun facts or aspects of the Pepper’s Ghost projection just by moving their hands. We’d love to see this used on an attraction in the park and can’t wait to see the ways that Disney applies this technology. ©Disney Fun fact! One of the inventors behind the Pepper’s Ghost patent also worked to help make Lenovo’s AR Experience “Jedi Challenges” a reality. This AR gaming headset came out in 2017 and allows a player to engage in lightsaber battles with 3D Star Wars characters like Kylo-Ren or Darth Vadar. Because of limited replay value, “Jedi Challenges” is no longer for sale by Lenovo but you can find it from various third-party sellers online still! ©Disney The reason we bring this up is that the tech used for “Jedi Challenges” looks awfully similar to the concept art for the Lightsaber Experience onboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, sans the headset. Maybe a similar form of AR or Pepper’s Ghost will be used! Disney is constantly coming up with new innovations, so the Lightsaber Experience could be entirely different from either of these recent technologies — but we can’t wait to find out! Star Wars Lightsaber Experience And there you have it! That’s our check-in on some of the more interesting…and sometimes mysterious…permits and patents that Disney has filed recently! As always, we’ll keep an eye on the behind the scenes side of things to see if we can spot any good info to help inform your trip planning. Until next time! What do you think some of these mystery permits are for? Do you like hearing about some of the behind the scenes construction in Disney World? Let us know in the comments! 22. On a recent visit to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort I found myself taking a breather in the Plaza Hub. It was dusk, or as photographers and romantics like to call it, “The magic hour.” On this particular evening that moniker definitely lived up to its promise. As I sat there watching the fading sunlight paint the white puffy clouds to hues of pink, and the Florida sky to deep shades of royal blue it all seemed appropriate, for before me was the elegant and regal visage of Cinderella Castle. Slowly as the last rays of sunshine said “Goodnight” the castle seemed to magically transform into a shimmering beacon of romance, hope and joy. It was truly a breathtaking moment and similar to one I’m sure many of you have enjoyed through the years. As night officially fell around me, I kept staring at the castle, cognizant of the “oohs” and “ahhs” of my fellow park guests as they too took in the sight with their handy cell phones and cameras. While they busily captured the moment, I started to think about the seemingly everlasting allure of “Cinderella” and how Magic Kingdom Park is home to the greatest romantic fairytale of all-time. By many accounts “Cinderella” is the most well-known, translated, and interpreted fairytale in the world. Although originating in 16thcentury German literature it is the 1697 interpretation by French poet Charles Perrault that forms the basis of most modern representations of the “Cinderella” story, particularly Walt Disney’s classic 1950 animated feature (celebrating its 70thanniversary on Feb. 15, 2020, and currently featured on Disney+) and Disney’s hit 2015 live-action film adaptation. While gazing at the castle I pondered: Cinderella and her story possibly holds the distinction of being represented more within Magic Kingdom Park than any other Disney Princess is represented at any other Disney park in the world. Here a just a few of the charming nods to the world’s most famous romantic fairytale heroine to be found within Magic Kingdom Park (and so appropriate to recall in this season of St. Valentine’s Day): Cinderella Castle– This globally recognized icon soars 189 feet into the heavens and features the exclusive and exquisite Cinderella Castle Suite. The mind boggles at the countless expressions of adoring affection that have been captured in photographs with Cinderella Castle as the backdrop. Cinderella’s Wishing Well– This romantic locale is a favorite spot for wedding proposals. Maybe one of you got engaged here? It’s also a reflective spot for kindness and positive thoughts. Monies from this wishing well are donated to charity and “help the dreams of children come true.” La Fontaine de Cendrillion– A bronze sculpture of the famed scullery maid (crafted by Disney Legend Blaine Gibson in 1965, six years prior to the opening of the Magic Kingdom in 1971) is the centerpiece of a quaint fountain in the courtyard of the castle. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique– If your little ones are seeking magical makeovers, look no farther! This popular spot is where girls and boys experience a royal head-to-toe transformation through the skilled magic of their Fairy Godmothers-in-Training, emerging as delightful regal princesses or brave knights. Prince Charming Regal Carrousel– This 100-year old majestic, swirling, centerpiece of Fantasyland features 90 unique, wood-carved, horses. Built in 1917 and debuting as the Liberty Carrousel at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan, this particular attraction opened with the Magic Kingdom in 1971. Cinderella’s Royal Table – Do you recall (As kids or young-at-heart adults) the fun and anticipation of entering the grand Banquet Hall, with its incredible stained-glass views of Fantasyland, colorful heraldry and dining with Cinderella herself? For many, this popular restaurant remains a favorite memory-making destination at Walt Disney World Resort. Princess Fairytale Hall– “Once upon a times” really do come true in this resplendent setting for royal encounters. Here Cinderella and her fellow Disney Princesses grant delightful audiences with their fans of both young and old alike. So, as you can see, with so many loving nods throughout Fantasyland, it’s easy to see the charm and romance that “Cinderella” represents living on, happily ever after, in Magic Kingdom Park.
