We spotted this new collectible ABC mugs down at the Emporium on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. From A to Z, every letter is decked out in a Disney Parks-inspired design. That makes twenty-six new mugs that we need to add to our growing list of things we need, but don’t have room for. Don’t worry though, we will make room! ABC Disney mugs display Aloha! This mug’s Polynesian vibe has us craving Dole Whips. ABC Disney A mug You should probably be careful with this mug on the wildest ride in the wilderness. Disneyland is slaying the Minnie Ear game right now! Not only did we spot the new Mickey Balloon Ears here last week, but today a new set of Mulan Minnie Ears have just debuted! Mickey Balloon Ears Oh, and did we happen to mention they’re almost as fabulous as the incredible Mulan herself? You’ll see what we mean in a sec because these little babies are absolutely STUN-NING! Check out the gorgeous new Mulan Minnie Ears! While the live-action remake doesn’t come out in theaters until March 27th, we’ll be sporting these beauties around the Disney parks in the meantime! Mulan Minnie Ears The side with the blue bow is accented with a gold medallion of a dragon while the centerpiece also features a fan with Chinese writing on it! Mulan Minnie Ears Meanwhile, each ear is made out of a red silk-like material and has a round Chinese symbol printed on it in gold! Mulan Minnie Ears The other side of the headband is much simpler and features a green bow. The ears can be worn either way, depending on what Mulan mood you’re feeling the most! Mickey Musubi is a savory treat found at Ulu Café in Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa which is so popular it’s even been given its own Disney Wishables food plush tribute. Aulani Wishables The Mickey Musubi features fried Spam, soy sauce, and sticky rice along with nori wrap to form that classic Mickey shape. And now, a MINNIE Musubi has hit the scene! With MANY thanks to our friend @disneyhawaiimoms on Instagram (who also previously provided the adorable photo above), we can show you the new Minnie Tamago Musubi, complete with pink bow! Exciting news! We finally have some new details to share with you about the new Mickey Shorts Theater — including WHEN it’ll open! Mickey Shorts Theater And while we already knew the new theater experience would be debuting sometime in March, we can now officially confirm it’ll be happening on the SAME DAY as Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway’s big grand opening! The new Mickey Shorts Theater is located in the spot where Star Wars: Path of the Jedi used to be. Not only are we expecting this place to look super adorable when it opens March 4th (ah, hello Mickey Mouse theater seats!), but we just found out the Mickey Shorts Theater will be releasing an all-new Mickey short entitled Vacation Fun! ©Disney But that’s not all! In addition to Vacation Fun, you’ll also be able to catch a few clips from some of your other favorite Mickey shorts, including Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg and Outback at Ya!. ©Disney After the show, there will be special photo opportunities for you and your family to strike a pose with! Over here in the States, we’ve been enjoying the fun of going back and watching some of our favorite old Disney movies and TV shows on Disney+ for a couple of months now, but our friends over in Europe still have to wait until next month before they can binge-watch the adventures of Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian. Disney+ Before the service goes live in Europe, Disney is offering a special limited-time offer that can save some serious cha-ching! If you live in the United Kingdom, you can subscribe to Disney+ annually right now for £49.99 ($64.57). In Germany, the offer is €59.99 ($64.90) for the year. This special discount will be available until the day before Disney+ goes live in Europe. Disney+ Streaming Service Once Disney+ is up and running, the price in Britain will jump up to £59.99 ($77.48) annually and Germany’s price will increase to €69.99 ($75.72) a year. Ever since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in Disneyland, we haven’t been able to get enough of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Even though we’ve given you some tips and tricks on how to get some of the best runs, there’s a new hack you’re going to want to try the next time you visit Batuu! Thanks to our friend @carlyewisel, we learned about a new Smugglers Run mode that will basically make your entire party laugh so hard, the entire galaxy might hear you. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run While the flight on the Millennium Falcon usually has Hondo Ohnaka’s voice guiding you to coaxium canisters, the latest hack lets you skip Hondo altogether to encounter Chewie instead! You can actually get Chewie to yell at you and your crew as you fly through the galaxy. And, according to FreshBaked! there’s an exact way you have to hack this mode with a crew of 6 team members! Before the ride starts, do NOT activate your position right away (it’s a trap!!). Instead, make sure the left and right pilots push their controls to the far left or right and far up or down. And, once the pilots have done that, they can push their activation button. Pilots’ controls Behind the pilots, the “engineers and gunners need to hit one of the white buttons on their console before hitting the orange activation button. Kind of like using the shift key on a keyboard.” After the Cast Members give you the clear to launch, you’ll get to listen to Chewie yell for the span of Smugglers Run! But, be sure each member of your party does every step or Hondo will make an appearance instead! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run This sounds like a wild way to spend your flight through the galaxy with your crew (and we can’t wait to try it ourselves!). If you want to watch “Chewie Mode” before you try it, you can check out FreshBaked!’s how-to video for all the details. This was successfully completed in Disneyland. It’s time for “Vacation Fun!” The newly re-imagined Mickey Shorts Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will debut March 4 to feature a one-of-a-kind animated short featuring everyone’s favorite mouse and his leading lady. The original animated short, “Vacation Fun,” celebrates Mickey and Minnie’s favorite vacation memories, plus a few new adventures! “Vacation Fun,” which is exclusive to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, will feature new animation and clips from favorite Mickey shorts, including Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg and Outback at Ya!. After the show, guests can make even more memories by stepping into life-sized versions of beloved animated Mickey shorts, where they can pose for photos with family and friends. Existing shorts from the Mickey Mouse television series that are being used in the post show photo experience are Yodelburg, Potatoland, Entombed and Panda-monium. Music is an essential part of the magic in Frozen: A Musical Invitation, a new show which premiered at Disneyland Paris in Walt Disney Studios Park last November. To learn more about the music that brings it to life this unique interactive experience, we talked with Matt Walker, head of Walt Disney Imagineering’s Music Studio, and senior music creative director Yaron Spiwak. Keep reading for a few inside details on how the team adapted the iconic music of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen for this all-new show! How did you adapt the music to the needs of the experience? Matt: Frozen: A Musical Invitation is an immersive theater, multi-media experience. Because of that, it draws from all our different backgrounds: live performance theater, attraction and film. It’s one of the things that makes this job fun. Yaron: One of our first challenges was – when you first enter the room – we had to find a way to recap the movie for guests without using any dialogue. So, we created this medley that encapsulates a lot of the songs in a way that’s both poignant and heroic, which gets guests excited to see the show. The first time the show directors heard it, they got very emotional. I did, too. How did you stay true to the original music? Matt: It’s very important for us to produce music that belongs and feels authentic to the original film. The first step is determining the creative needs for that production. We would sit with the creative team in Paris to discuss their needs. For example, how can we take the beloved music of Frozen and re-arrange it, re-record it so that the guests have the same experience they had in the film and even take them to a higher level of immediacy and intimacy? We also researched heavily the original orchestrations and then began to adapt those for the needs of the show. Were the original songwriters involved in the project? Matt: Absolutely. We want to make them feel as enthusiastic and excited as we are about our project. When I showed Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez the recording of Andrew Cottee and how he adapted the arrangement of “Let It Go,” bringing even more fever to the piece for this particular production, they were moved to tears. It was a beautiful experience. How was it recording at Abbey Road Studios in London? Matt: Since we were going for this almost magical, ethereal quality of different moments in the score, when we were able to book Studio One at Abbey Road – the world’s largest recording space – we knew we were in for a phenomenal treat. It was great to see the directors’ and the producers’ eyes light up when they heard the music for the first time live. Yaron: To hear the same thing you’ve heard so many times played by real instruments is really magical. I always think of recording sessions like a holiday. It was a slam dunk weekend when basketball’s biggest stars and greatest fans descended on Chicago for NBA All-Star 2020, and what better way to celebrate than to bring a little Disney magic to the heart of the action? Minnie Mouse helped kick off the weekend festivities by surprising athletes after the NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Sports® basketball game and applauding their accomplishments on the court. Minnie then had a spotlight moment of her own, taking center court ahead of the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. The Special Olympics athletes helped to cheer her onto the court and celebrate everything that makes her Positively Minnie, including being a sports fan! Throughout the weekend, Walt Disney World Resort shared the excitement and energy of NBA Experience with basketball’s biggest fans. The new first-of-its-kind venue at Disney Springs lets fans experience the NBA through 13 immersive basketball-themed activities. Coming June 5-11, 2022, Orlando will also host 4,000 Special Olympics athletes, 1,500 coaches, and over 10,000 volunteers from across the United States at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort! The 2020 Food & Wine Festival is officially kicking off THIS WEEK in Disney California Adventure! Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival Although we’ve already spotted a few of the booths being set up, we’re super excited to find even more of our favorite returning (and NEW!) spots making their way into the festival. While we’ve been giving you a sneak peek at all the eats and treats coming to the Food & Wine Festival, we’re checking out some of the booths being set up around Disney California Adventure. 2019 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival Passport Back again this year with Chicken & Waffles, Golden Dreams is ready to serve up some brunch for guests! (California eatin,’ here we come!) Golden Dreams Booth LA Style is also returning for the 2020 festival. Buuut, now the booth is offering alcoholic MONKEY BREAD! Um, yeah, we’re pretty excited about this one. LA Style Booth And, last but not least, One in a Melon is a NEW booth for this year’s festival! River Belle Terrace in Frontierland at Disneyland Park is a classic table service restaurant in a great location: right along the Rivers of America! In addition to serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, River Belle Terrace also offers the Fantasmic! Dining Package, which includes a meal and a reserved space to watch the nighttime spectacular. River Belle Terrace Find out what we thought of the views and EATS from our latest visit in this review! Atmosphere The name River Belle Terrace just sounds like it’s packed with charm, right? And it is, indeed! It’s designed with quaint little details in mind. The patio with seating overlooking Rivers of America offers green umbrellas trimmed with tassels and filigreed cafe-style chairs. View from River Belle Terrace Inside the dining room, the same chairs and the ornate floral wallpaper give the space a garden feel. That’s helped by massive paned windows that allow tons of light in during the daytime hours. River Belle Terrace Dining Room Table settings are simple and clean, allowing the louder, mostly floral design elements to stand out. You’ll see wall sconces, chandeliers, and baskets of faux flowers hanging from the ceiling. It’s… a lot. But in a good way! River Belle Terrace Dining Room The menu here has seen plenty of changes over the years, including the most dramatic in 2016, when the restaurant transformed from a quick-service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to a table service location serving lunch and dinner. Finally, table service breakfast was added in July 2018 to round out the daily schedule. Eats We dined for lunch and tried items from Starters, Entrees, and Seasonal Offerings… because Cookie Butter Monkey Bread. But we’ll get to that in a bit. Starters For the first Starter, we tried one of River Belle Terrace’s classics: Loaded Tater Tots. We first spotted tot dishes here when the restaurant introduced Secret Menu Tots back in 2017 — read about those here! This starter consisted of crispy tater tots topped with bacon, cheese sauce, corn salsa, barbecue sauce, and a tiny bit of micro-cilantro. Loaded Tater Tots The bacon was cubed and delicious, while the creamy cheese sauce added lots of richness. These were some tasty tots! We loved the flavor combination and would definitely indulge in these again! Loaded Tater Tots Our second Starter was the Creamy Pimento Cheese Dip that we loved back in January when it came with a massive pretzel. (How massive? This massive!) This incarnation is a bit different, with “toasted bread” which seems to be knobs of pretzel bread. But the bread was so hard, it made the dish difficult to eat, and we didn’t enjoy it as much. Hopefully that soft, salty pretzel will come back! Creamy Pimento Cheese Entrees Moving on to main courses, we started with the Beef Brisket Sandwich with smoked provolone, fried onions, and house-made sauce on a toasted onion hoagie roll. It’s served with baked beans and the choice of another side. You can select from coleslaw, seasoned tater bites, or seasonal vegetables. Beef Brisket Sandwich Yes, the seasonal vegetables were cubes of butternut squash and brussel sprouts on our visit. And yes, we got just four total pieces! The sandwich, though? A terrific, slightly messy, really tasty option! The key was the smoked provolone, which came through in every bite and stood up to the savory flavors of the beef. Beef Brisket Sandwich The Fried Chicken Sandwich is another great option (it just barely edged out the Brisket!). This is a large fried breast of chicken topped with barbecue sauce, coleslaw, and fried jalapeños served with beans and tots. Those jalapeños! Such a cool (and slightly spicy) addition. Fried Chicken Sandwich The zesty barbecue sauce tied everything together and contrasted well with the crunchy, creamy coleslaw. Such a satisfying flavor combination. Fried Chicken Sandwich But River Belle Terrace can also do elegant dining, as evidenced by the Citrus Herb-Crusted Cornish Game Hen with seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes. This was a surprising menu item for a theme park, but it was an impressive portion. The meat was a little dry, especially because there was no sauce on the plate. A little pan-gravy or jus would have helped a lot. The flavors were good, but the dry meat was a bit of a disappointment. Note: since the time of our visit, this menu item transformed into a Southern-Fried version. Maybe this will prevent the meat from being dry in the future! Citrus Herb Crusted Cornish Game Hen We’re ending our talk of Entrees with Skillet Mac & Cheese, which we were hoping would be bursting with flavors of pimento, manchego, and provolone cheeses… but it wasn’t! The pasta and its cheese pairings were surprisingly bland. Skillet Mac and Cheese with Pimento The toppings — fried onions, brisket, chives, and bread crumbs — were good, but the mac was on the blander side. We like our mac and cheese to rock independently of the toppings. We’d probably skip this one in the future. Skillet Mac and Cheese with Pimento Seasonal Offerings And now for the Seasonal Offerings bit of the menu, which is just that: seasonal and frequently changing. Thankfully while we were there, we were able to indulge in some knock-down delicious Cookie Butter Monkey Bread! We loved this last January, and it’s still fabulous! A speculoos cookie topped off a scoop of vanilla ice cream that was slathered in cookie butter sauce. All of this topped gooey monkey bread spotted with cinnamon. Cookie Butter Monkey Bread Everything about this was delicious, especially when the ice cream began to melt and all the components melded together. We’d love to come back for this dessert again in the future so we’re hoping it’s there on our next visit! Do note that this can come and go without notice, so see what the seasonal offering is on your visit! Cookie Butter Monkey Bread Lunch at River Belle Terrace was a delight almost across the board! With the exception of too-hard rolls, dry meat, and bland mac and cheese, we still found several things to celebrate here. Nosh or Not? Steer yourself to River Belle Terrace if: You love the quaint dining room and patio and want to enjoy them for a spell. The comfort-food inspired menu appeals to you. You’re looking for a table-service restaurant that offers Fantasmic! Dining Packages. Head downstream if: You don’t have time for table service meals. You aren’t interested in the American-style food offered here. This part of the park isn’t your jam, and you’d rather spend time elsewhere. Overall River Belle Terrace is as charming as its name implies, and the food is decent, too. This table-service spot is ideally located for people-watching if you’re on the patio or adjacent to one of the massive windows, and the option of partaking in the Fantasmic Dining Package makes it additionally appealing. We will keep coming back for those Loaded Tots and gooey Monkey Bread — and you may want to try those out for yourself, too! They have also added a Salmon Flower Ikura to the menu. This is fresh-cut salmon with salmon roe, spinach and watermelon radish, and chilled ramen tossed with poke sauce.
