  1. We’ve got a BIG update out of Frisco, Texas, where Universal’s newest park is in progress, and on track to open later this year! ©Universal Universal Kids Resort is preparing to open to guests this summer (though no official opening date has been announced just yet), and while this park is geared towards kids and their families, we can’t wait to check out the seven themed lands this park will have to explore. Now, there’s a big update to share that confirms the park should be opening later this year — casting has now opened for the park! According to WFAA, the park recently released a press release stating that, “The resort is looking for team players who want to help create those unforgettable memories for families while prioritizing safety and enhancing the community.” The park is looking for both part-time and full-time workers, and perks of the job include complimentary tickets to the park, recognition programs, discounts on merchandise, food, and stays at the Universal Kids Resort Hotel, and more, according to the press release. ©Universal Those interested in auditioning have to be over the age of 18 and have to be interested in being an actor, or a costumed character and/or performer. Callbacks will be held on March 9th and 11th from 10 AM to 5 PM. To submit yourself, you’ve got to fill out the park’s interest form, which confirms that current open roles are for animated costumed characters, movers/performers, and actors. ©Universal The website also details the company’s values, such as doing the right thing, being team players, making safety a priority, and more. It also lists benefits employees will get, which include career development, financial planning support, a 401K retirement plan, medical, dental, and vision health plans, a wellness program, vacation time including paid holidays, and much more. ©Universal On the audition form, it indicates to “See details included in the audition announcement for video specifics” when it comes to submitting a video to be considered. To see all roles currently open at the resort, you’ll want to check the list here. You’ll want to check back frequently, as it seems more opportunities will open up closer to the opening date. 2. Pin trading at Disney World is one of those beloved park traditions that could honestly use a serious glow-up. Pin Board For as long as most of us can remember, the experience has been a little… hit or miss, and not always in the fun, unpredictable way. Between questionable pin quality, chaotic online drops, and in-person release days that basically turn into a footrace, there’s a lot of room for improvement. We’ve rounded up a few new rules and changes that Disney Adults are genuinely, desperately hoping Disney World will adopt sooner rather than later. An Authenticity Board Like Disneyland’s If you’ve traded pins over at Disneyland recently, you may have noticed something we’re absolutely jealous of here on the East Coast. Disneyland has been rolling out a special display board with a glass top that’s managed by a cast member who’s trained to actually tell the difference between authentic Disney pins and the infamous “scrapper” pins that have flooded trading boards for years. Pin Trading merch at Disneyland For anyone who’s spent time trading at Disney World only to realize later that you walked away with a counterfeit, you know exactly how frustrating this is. We’d love to see Disney World adopt this same system across all four parks. Having a knowledgeable cast member and a dedicated board that prioritizes legitimate pins would genuinely restore a lot of trust in the trading experience and make it feel like the special tradition it’s supposed to be. A Better (and Fairer) System for Online Pin Drops We have to be real with you: getting a pin from the Disney Store online during one of those online drops feels basically impossible. You can be logged into your account, refreshed and ready to go before the drop even goes live, and still walk away empty-handed every single time. It’s demoralizing in a way that only fellow pin collectors will truly understand. ©Disney Disney doesn’t necessarily need to overhaul its entire online shop, but a more accessible and fair system for these drops would go a long way. We will say they recently added a virtual queue system for drops, and it does help. You just need to know when to get online. Set an alarm and be ready to go. Otherwise, you will still miss out on the pins you want. Numbered Wristbands for Every Park’s Release Days Here’s one that Disney World could honestly implement tomorrow, and we’d be singing their praises. If you’ve been to EPCOT for one of its Tuesday pin releases, you may have already experienced this: cast members have started handing out numbered wristbands to guests before they even enter the park, which means the release itself isn’t a mad sprint to see who can get to the building first. Disney World Parade Space Mountain pin It’s such a simple concept, but it makes the whole experience so much more civilized and enjoyable. Nobody wants to feel like they’re in an obstacle course just to have a shot at adding a new pin to their collection. Bringing that numbered wristband system to releases at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom would make things more equitable for everyone and honestly, just a lot more fun. Limited Edition Disney World has the opportunity to make pin trading feel like the magical, community-driven experience it was always meant to be. These changes wouldn’t require a massive overhaul, just a little more intention around a tradition that so many of us genuinely love. Keep it right here at DisneyFoodBlog for even more from Disney! 3. Okay, who’s ready for even MORE new Starbucks drinks? Trick question, because the answer is US! Now, we’ve already tried some of the new spring menu that just dropped recently (and we had thoughts), but Starbucks isn’t done yet with spring flavors. Starbucks in Magic Kingdom Yep, that’s right. Even MORE new spring flavors will be hitting Starbucks menus soon, and we’ve got ALL the details. Trust us…you’re going to want to run to Starbucks to check these new drinks out because they all sound AMAZING. A new mid-spring menu is set to hit Starbucks on April 7th, so mark those calendars. It will feature some brand NEW drinks, including new matcha and chai drinks, as well as new energy refreshers, which will include the new Mango Strawberry Energy Refresher, Mango Strawberry Lemonade Energy Refresher, Pink Drink Energy Refresher, and the Mango Dream Energy Refresher. We love Starbucks! You will also be able to make any Refresher an energy refresher by adding more caffeine and B vitamins. You’ll also have the choice to make it caffeine-free. However, what REALLY sounds good is the Iced Ube Coconut Cream Shaken Espresso, which is “bringing together espresso, notes of coconut, and the subtle sweetness of ube.” This drink will only be available for a limited time. You’ll also be able to order the new Iced Mango Cream Matcha and Iced Mango Cream Chai. ©Starbucks You can bet we’ll be in line at Starbucks in Disney World on April 7th to try out some of these new drinks, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 5. It’s one thing to experience Disney World as a guest. You might run into the busyness of the day, the long wait times, and everything that comes with being a guest at Disney World. 6. It’s no secret that Disney World’s hotels are loaded with dining options, from quick service eateries and food courts to award-winning table service restaurants. However, the best all-you-care-to-enjoy restaurant at a Disney hotel may be hiding a bit under the radar. Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding Sebastian’s Bistro, which Disney calls a place where guests can transport their “taste buds to ‘island time’ with delightful family-style dishes infused with rich Latin and Caribbean flavors”, is located at the Moderate Tier Caribbean Beach Resort. Themed to the calypso-singing Sebastian the Crab from The Little Mermaid, Sebastian’s Bistro features a bright and vivid color palette, and thematic touches in line with the resort’s island vibe. Sebastian’s Bistro Currently, for $39 per adult or $21 per child, guests can indulge in the all-you-can-enjoy Taste of the Caribbean Menu, which includes house-baked pull-apart rolls, a salad, oven-roasted citrus chicken, slow-cooked mojo pork, grilled chili-rubbed beef, sustainable baked fish, cilantro rice and beans, vegetable stew, and grilled vegetables, and house-made coconut-pineapple bread pudding for dessert. The restaurant also offers a similar-flavor plant-based menu. Taste of the Caribbean Platter In addition, the restaurant offers enhancements that can be added to the meal: Crab and Seafood Cake with Tropical Mango Slaw and Guajillo Aïoli for $13.00 and Fried Coconut Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce for $10.00. Inside the restaurant In addition, the Bistro offers a stocked drink menu including specialty cocktails, sangrias, Caribbean rums, beers, and mocktails. The Spice Necklace Salad As we put it after our most recent visit, “Seriously, great food, and you can have as much of it as you’d like? That’s a win in our book!” especially for the price! As if all that wasn’t enough, if you time your meal right, you can catch an outstanding view of the EPCOT fireworks views from Caribbean Beach. Luminous from Sebastian’s Bistro Next time you’re considering where to eat at Disney World, keep Sebastian’s Bistro in mind! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney dining tips from across the resort. 7. If you’re heading to EPCOT and only planning to snack and stroll around World Showcase, we need to talk. EPCOT’s World Showcase We love a good festival booth and a scenic lap around the lagoon as much as anyone, but there are a few experiences in World Showcase that deserve way more hype than they get. Some are totally free, some cost a little extra, and all of them are the kind of things that can turn a good park day into a core memory. If you’re skipping these, you’re doing EPCOT wrong. Let’s start with something that is criminally underrated. Not Stopping at KidCOT I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t KidCOT just for little kids? Technically, yes, but also no. The KidCOT Fun Stops are tucked inside every pavilion around World Showcase, and they’re one of the easiest ways to actually interact with each country instead of just walking through it. KidCOT At each stop, Cast Members from that country guide kids through a simple craft and chat about where they’re from. It’s low key, it’s free, and it gives kids something to look forward to in every pavilion. Even better, it forces you to slow down and actually go inside the shops and galleries you might normally breeze past. Italy’s KidCot Station If you’re traveling with kids, this is a must. It breaks up the walking, gives everyone a mission, and turns World Showcase into a scavenger hunt of sorts. And if you’re not traveling with kids, at least appreciate the vibe. There’s something really special about seeing Cast Members share pieces of their culture in such a personal way. Skipping Voices of Liberty Over at The American Adventure in the America pavilion, the Voices of Liberty perform multiple times throughout the day, and every single time we stop, we’re reminded why this is one of our favorite live performances in all of Disney World. Voices of Liberty This a cappella group performs inside the rotunda, and the acoustics are unreal. You’ll hear patriotic classics, traditional folk songs, and harmonies that will genuinely give you chills. It’s the kind of performance that makes you pause mid snack and go, wait, why is this free? Voices of Liberty It’s also a great way to get off your feet for a few minutes without committing to a full attraction. You can stand, sit on the floor, lean against a column, whatever works. The show is short, sweet, and powerful. If you’ve never taken the time to stop and listen, add it to your list immediately. Not Booking the Behind the Seeds Tour If you love Living with the Land, then the Behind the Seeds tour in The Land pavilion is about to be your new obsession. Behind the Seeds Tour This guided walking tour takes you backstage inside the greenhouses where Disney grows produce used in EPCOT restaurants. You’ll learn about hydroponics, sustainable farming, and all the weird and wonderful fruits and vegetables you never knew existed. Yes, you will feel like you’re on a field trip. Yes, it’s still awesome. Behind the Seeds tour It’s relatively affordable compared to other tours on property, and it gives you a whole new appreciation for what you’re floating past on the boat ride. The next time you ride Living with the Land, you’ll be pointing out plants like you work there. Not Rope Dropping France for Breakfast Finally, let’s talk strategy. If you’re entering through the International Gateway, or even if you’re coming in from the front and willing to hustle a bit, going straight to the France pavilion first thing in the morning is elite behavior. France Pavilion Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie is serving up fresh pastries, baguette sandwiches, and coffee before most people have even decided where to start. Grab a table before the crowds build, order a croissant or pain au chocolat, and just sit. Watch the pavilion wake up. Listen to the music. Soak it in. Ordering counter at Les Halles There is something about having a quiet breakfast in France while World Showcase is still calm that feels very main character energy in the best way. It sets the tone for the entire day. Jambon Beurre from Les Halles World Showcase is so much more than a loop of food booths and pretty buildings. If you carve out time for these experiences, you’ll walk away with more than just snack photos. You’ll leave with stories. And honestly, that’s what EPCOT does best. 11. The World Showcase has been one of the most popular areas at Disney World since EPCOT first opened back in 1982. Yet, despite how beloved the area is, there are still some secret rules and hidden gems that many guests aren’t aware of. Germany Pavilion From under-the-radar treats and tasting areas to breathtaking views of the World Showcase Lagoon, these hidden gems could change your whole approach to a trip around the world at EPCOT. Try the Frozen Mint Tea in Morocco World Showcase has SO MANY well known snacks and drinks, that sometimes it can be easy to forget about a favorite. That’s why we’re here to remind you of things like the Frozen Mint Tea. The mint flavor and sweetness of this drink work really well together to create a refreshing option. You can also get the Frozen Mint Tea with Bombay Sapphire Gin, so you can get a drink that counts towards your drinking around the world. Frozen Mint Tea Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya Window Seat Japan’s Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya not only provides “a variety of mouthwatering izakaya-style delicacies, including savory skewers, crispy tempura, succulent sushi rolls and hearty okonomiyaki”, but also a fantastic view of the World Showcase Lagoon, including during EPCOT’s nighttime shows like Luminous. Shiki-Sai views of the World Showcase Lagoon Bonus Seating Located outside the Mexico Pavilion overlooking the World Showcase Lagoon, La Hacienda de San Angel generally offers one of the most unique dining experiences in Disney World. However, what some may not know is that the restaurant is only open during dinner, beginning at 4:00 PM. Before that time, the restaurant’s seating, which gives tremendous views of the water, is open to those who pick up quick service lunch from La Cantina de San Angel. La Hacienda de San Angel Wine Anyone? While many of World Showcase’s libation stations are well known, some guests are unaware that numerous World Showcase retail locations feature wine/beer bars/tasting areas in several World Showcase stores. For example, Weinkeller in Germany offers a great selection of German wines by the glass, as well as a Wine Flight, which lets you sample a few different wines, and sometimes an Artisanal Cheese Plate to pair them with. Weinkeller Even the most seasoned World Showcase visitors may not be aware of these hidden games scattered around the lagoon. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World tips. 13. We mention all the time about how much we love the dining options around Disney Springs, and since there are SO many restaurants, the menus are changing practically every week. Limited Time menu at The Basket at Wine Bar George! Wine Bar George is one of our absolute favorite restaurants out there, but sometimes you don’t have time to snag a reservation, or they’re all filled up. In either case, you can stop by The Basket at Wine Bar George, which is the quick service section of this restaurant. You won’t get access to the full menu, but there are some pretty great options to try. That’s especially true now that there’s a NEW limited-time Greek menu — it totally blew our minds! From March 5th-8th, you can experience this special Greek menu at The Basket at Wine Bar George, and trust us when we say you CANNOT miss it. We snagged three of the special items available and started with the Gyro for only $6! Gyro This might be one of the best deals we’ve seen in a long time. This is a full-size gyro with perfectly fluffy pita, delicious, well-grilled lamb, and delicious tzatziki and tomato. It was INCREDIBLE, and for only $6?! We couldn’t believe it! We were BIG fans! Next up were the Greek Fries for $10. These were perfectly done seasoned fries topped with tzatziki and dill, and it’s a HUGE portion. It could have easily been shared between three people, so that $10 price tag is incredible when taking that into account. Our only complaint is that there was plenty of tzatziki for the top, but it didn’t go all the way through, so by the time we had fries at the bottom, there wasn’t any there. Other than that, we loved it! Greek Fries Finally, we also tried the Frouzo for $16. The ouzo flavor is very prominent in this, so if you’re someone who’s not a fan of strong drinks, this may not be your thing. However, we found it to be delightful with fresh flavors of pineapple and lime to balance the alcohol out. There is a slight anise flavor coming from the ouzo, so if you aren’t a fan of licorice flavor, you might want to skip this. While it is a frozen drink, it didn’t come out overly thick, so if you think you’ll be a fan of the flavor profile but don’t usually enjoy frozen drinks, we suggest still giving it a try! Frouzo Overall, we cannot recommend this menu enough, and highly recommend you stop by this weekend to give it a try! We really hope these items will make their way back again in the near future, too, because we’ll be thinking about them for quite some time. More Recent Reviews! 14. Every year, the menu at Peppers Cali-Ente is all about bringing the heat to the DCA Food & Wine Festival! Let’s find out more about this booth. 2025 Booth The 2026 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival has officially started at Disneyland Resort and there are LOTS of things to do. From now through April 27th, you can devour some delicious eats and drinks, check out unique entertainment, and more. Wondering just what you can eat at Peppers Cali-Ente? Well, we’ve checked it out and now we’re sharing our FULL thoughts. Menu As the name suggests, the theme of the menu at Peppers Cali-Ente is all about bringing the heat! This spot serves up two food items, plus some specialty cocktails. 2026 Peppers Cali-Ente Menu Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself! Eats First up, we grabbed the new Tajín Habanero Seasoned Wings for $9.50. These are made with Tajín chile-lime sauce. Tajin Habanero Seasoned Wings These were very spicy – absolutely covered in Tajin and lime! These wings were soft and tender with a great bite. We received a good variety of both flats and drums, and we enjoyed the mix. The portion size was very large and shareable. Tajín Habanero Seasoned Wings Next, we tried the Ramen Mac & Cheese for $9.25. This dish is comprised of Furikake crumble, fish cakes, green onions, and chile crunch. Ramen Mac & Cheese This was such a unique dish! This mac and cheese has a creamy and soft sharp cheddar sauce. We’re not kidding when we say creamy; it literally melted in our mouths! We weren’t a fan of the fishcakes, but the chili crunch was amazing! It brought a great kick that complemented the cheddar. We loved how the chili is on the side, so you can control how much spice you’re getting. Ramen Mac & Cheese Onto the drinks! Drinks In terms of drinks, we picked up the Pickle Whiskey Sour Cocktail. It’s a returning drink made with Bourbon, pickle juice, lime juice, and sweet and sour, garnished with Tajín Chile Lime Sauce, Tajín, and a pickle spear for $18.25. Pickle Whiskey Sour Cocktail This drink is pretty unique and not like something you’ll find anywhere else. If you drink pickle juice straight, you’ll love this. Because that’s what it’s like! We liked the crispness of the pickle spear, and the Tajin rim added a nice flavor. Pickle Whiskey Sour Cocktail Also available here is the Seaborn Strawberry Lemonade Margarita for $18.25. Seaborn Strawberry Lemonade Margarita This was very light and refreshing. The strawberry was very forward, with only a light aftertaste of the lemonade and alcohol. It was very yummy, but very dangerous! Seaborn Strawberry Lemonade Margarita And if you’re looking for something more kid-friendly, try the Strawberry Guava Lemonade for $8.50. It’s made with Simply Lemonade, strawberry purée, and guava syrup, topped with vanilla cream and freeze-dried strawberries. Strawberry Guava Lemonade This drink was very guava-forward. The guava syrup was so much stronger than the strawberry puree, despite the drink’s bright red color. The lemonade was very tart, which paired well with the sweet vanilla cold foam on top. OVERALL We’d rate this booth a four out of five. The drinks are great, but if spice isn’t your thing, the food here isn’t for you. We’d highly recommend the Tajin Habanero Seasoned Wings and the Strawberry Guava Lemonade. The only thing we didn’t like was the Pickle Whiskey Sour Cocktail – but other than that, this booth is a hit! Full Spread at Peppers Cali-Ente That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from! Click here to see FULL reviews of EVERY. SINGLE. 15. It’s time for our usual update on the Cinderella Castle repainting! Progress on Cinderella Castle! We recently went to the Magic Kingdom to check on the project, so we can get updated and so we can update you. Our most recent update is going to shock you with how much progress has been made! The agents at Small World Vacations know how to save money on your Disney Vacation! When you book your trip with Small World Vacations, their experienced agents monitor your reservation for possible future savings. They also compare discounts and figure out which one works best for your travel party, dates, resort, and touring plans. And they share expert tips and first-hand advice with you about your magical vacation. The castle is in the process of returning to its original color scheme of blues, grays, and gold accents — a color scheme we haven’t seen since 2020. From 2020 to now, the castle has been pink, blue, and gold, which was for the park’s 50th anniversary. Major progress is being made! The major difference this week is that the gray coloring is covering a BIG chunk of one side of the castle. It’s crazy to see how much work they’ve done. Some of the blues are really starting to pop! We’re thinking that the grey parts still need some detailing to be done. She’s getting a makeover! If you’re visiting the Magic Kingdom, the painting work is only done in the morning. So, you don’t have to worry about not getting those iconic photos in front of the castle, as the cranes are taken down at noon. The moat is gone! It’s been weird seeing the castle without the moat around it. The area definitely doesn’t look like how it usually does with everything going on. The fact that they started this in January and have made this much progress is crazy! We love seeing the progress! We aren’t sure when the castle is supposed to be complete, but Disney is aiming for later this year! We’ll be checking in often to see how the project is going, like we have been. 16. It’s no secret that a voyage on a Disney Cruise is pretty expensive, but the ship’s amenities as well as Disney’s private islands make up for that… as long as you know what you’re getting into! Disney Magic We averaged out the costs for a family of three (two adults, 10 year-old child) for a Disney Caribbean cruise from July 20th – 24th, 2026 (a Monday – Friday),and the costs were certainly nothing to sneeze at. The five-night cruise for three would cost $5,410 for an Inside room, $5,690 for an Oceanview room, $6,082 for a Verandah room, and $9,611 for a Concierge level room. Now, we have to stress that prices do fluctuate a great deal based on the length of voyage, destination, and time of year, and this is simply an average baseline. ©Disney “I Wish I’d Known How to Schedule Palo Meals Around Rotational Dining” Let’s begin with a lesson I personally learned the hard way on my first Disney Cruise. For those who may be unfamiliar, the DCL uses a rotational dining system where passengers move to different included themed restaurants along with their waiter each night during their designated dining period. However, there are also other upcharge dining establishments on the ship, including the popular Palo installations. Palo Steakhouse So, on my first cruise, my wife and I scored a Palo reservation during our dining period, and while the meal was LOVELY, we didn’t get to see the Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure show. In retrospect, we wish we would have booked an earlier Palo reservation, then experienced the Frozen show while only ordering dessert or a drink. Olaf! “Ride Evacuations Happen on the Ship Too” During a cruise, a member of our team was evacuated from the Aquamouse water coaster when the ride’s water suddenly stopped flowing. Turned out a child had gotten stuck, and the whole ride needed to be evacuated. According to the, “the side of our slide just zipped down – like it was a tent – and a guy came in to evacuate us. “ Aquamouse “I Could Have Packed Lighter and Done Laundry” It can be tempting to overpack for a cruise. However, if you want to limit yourself to a carry-on bag — which can make the embarking and disembarkation process easier — you can simply do your laundry during your voyage! The ship’s 24-hour self-service laundry rooms feature washers and dryers and cost about about $3 per wash and $3 per dry, with any laundry detergent packets that you need on top of THAT will be an extra $1, but you can bring your own if you so choose. Luandry! Much like the Disney World hotels, you can be updated about the status of your laundry. Just check your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app so you can make your way back to the laundry room when it’s ready for ya to switch over OR pick up. But unlike the Disney hotels, we found it WAY easier to find time to get laundry done during those out-at-sea days without it feeling like it was interrupting the flow of the vacation. Plenty of machines “The Newer Vessels Don’t Have Continuous Running/Jogging/Walking Tracks” The newer ships in the fleet, like the Wish and the Treasure, don’t feature the same tracks that earlier ships did. Instead of having a continuous track like the other four ships have, the Wish and Treasure’s track is broken up, so you have to go up various stairs and cross-overs to actually complete a full lap of the vessel. Disney Treasure “Gift Shops Aren’t Open Until the Ship is At Sea” Finally, if you were planning to knock out all your shopping as soon as you get on board or wanted to grab some last-minute souvenirs before getting off, you’re unfortunately out of luck, as the ship’s stores are only open when it’s out of port and in the open sea. Disney just confirmed that the new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets will be a Lightning Lane Multi Pass option once it opens in the summer of 2026! ©Disney If you head over to Disney World’s website and look at Lightning Lane for attractions and experiences, you’ll see the upcoming ride has joined the Multi Pass list at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We never doubted that it wouldn’t be available as a Lighting Lane experience, but it’s nice to know that Disney has provided that confirmation. ©Disney When purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Hollywood Studios, you’ll be prompted to choose up to 3 multi-pass experiences and arrival windows. The decision for choosing is going to be a little more difficult, as you can only choose ONE experience between Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog Dash, and now Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (Summer 2026). Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster entrance Only one attraction at Hollywood Studios isn’t available for Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and that’s Rise of the Resistance. That remains the only attraction at the park that only has the Single Pass as a Lightning Lane option. Maybe that changes once Monsters Inc Land brings us the new roller coaster! Rise of the Resistance We’re excited for the new version of the attraction to open. It will feature animatronics of Scooter and the penguin audio engineers, who will be working hard to get Electric Mayhem to make it on time to their concert. We’ll be getting a VIP tour of G-Force Records, but under new management by The Muppets! We’ve also been told that G-Force Records has a new, unique look, as Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. 22. What began as an ambitious vision from Walt and Roy O. Disney more than 60 years ago has since grown into the largest and most visited theme park destination in the world. The story of Walt Disney World in Florida dates back to a November day in 1965. The Disney brothers joined the state’s Governor Haydon Burns in what is now the Thornton Park District of Downtown Orlando to announce the “Florida Project” – a bold idea that promised to bring happiness, innovation and opportunity to the state. Today, Walt Disney World welcomes millions of guests to Florida each year, fueling the state’s economy, creating jobs, and driving tourism that benefits communities beyond our gates. I’m excited to share that in honor of Disney’s history in the region and the bright future ahead of us, the Thornton Park District – a member of Orlando’s Main Streets program – has unveiled a new commemorative plaque at the site of the Florida Project press conference. A Full-Circle Moment in Disney and Florida History A dedication ceremony was held to celebrate this meaningful, full-circle moment for Disney in Florida. We gathered with community members, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle as the plaque debuted at the very same building Walt and Roy first announced their initial vision for what would become Walt Disney World. “Walt and Roy Disney didn’t just announce a theme park in 1965. They announced a partnership with a community that was ready to dream bigger about its future,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “With this plaque, we honor more than a historic announcement. We honor a relationship, with both Walt Disney World and our Orlando Main Streets, that bolsters our economy, strengthens our neighborhoods and defines our identity.” It is such an honor for us to have the Thornton Park District dedicate this plaque to Disney, forever linking our earliest days in the state to the vibrant community that surrounds us. We could not be more grateful for our Florida family. Disney’s Impact Across the Sunshine State What started as the Florida Project now spans nearly 30,000 acres in Central Florida. For reference, that makes Walt Disney World nearly twice the size of the island of Manhattan! With an ecosystem this massive, Disney has become a powerful economic engine for Florida, generating an influx of jobs, tourism and public revenue for the state. In fact, Walt Disney World is the largest single-site employer in the United States, supporting 80,000 cast members. Disney currently leads the industry in employee retention at a rate of over 80% and an average tenure of 12 years. This means that cast choose to build lasting careers here, some staying three times longer than the national average (BLS). Beyond our own workforce, Disney also supports thousands of small businesses, many who are local to Florida and employ additional workers. In total, one out of every 32 jobs in Florida can be attributed to Disney. Walt Disney World is also committed to creating happiness and positive change for communities across the state. Since opening in 1971, we’ve provided hundreds of millions of dollars in support to local nonprofits, schools and other organizations who help our neighbors in need. Our cast play a big part in that impact too and spent more than 170,000 hours giving back as Disney VoluntEARS in 2025. Honoring the Past While Looking to the Future More than 60 years after that historic day in Thornton Park, Disney continues to invest in Florida. This includes work that is underway right now, like Tropical Americas at Animal Kingdom, The Magic of Disney Animation, and a Monsters, Inc. land at Hollywood Studios, the largest expansion of Magic Kingdom with Cars and Villains-themed lands and more. “We thank the city of Orlando and the Thornton Park District for honoring this important part of our shared history,” Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle said. “This commemorative plaque celebrates our past and reflects the bold vision we need for the future.” Disney’s growth in Florida means more new stories and experiences brought to life, greater prosperity for the region and new opportunities for guests, cast and neighbors alike. As we embark on these new adventures together, the commemorative plaque in Thornton Park is a reminder of the great story that Disney and Florida have written side by side over generations. After all, there really is a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day. 24. Disney Imagineering just filed not one, but TWO big permits for Disney World! Disney’s Animal Kingdom We all know that Disney World has some MASSIVE expansion plans for the coming years. Over at Magic Kingdom, we’ll eventually see the addition of Villains Land and Piston Peak. In Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A closed to make way for a new Tropical Americas Land, called Pueblo Esperanza. Then, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’re seeing Monstropolis take over what used to be Muppets Courtyard. Well, we have some news on two of the four lands that are on the horizon — let’s take a look at the details! Encanto Ride First, let’s take a step in Animal Kingdom, where Disney Imagineering is hard at work bringing Pueblo Esperanza to life. The new land will see three new attractions — a new carousel, an Indiana Jones ride, and a ride themed after Encanto. Disney Imagineering has been going crazy because the Encanto ride building structure has been completed. All the steel bars are in place, which means it’s time for phase two. Tropical Americas construction Now, it looks like Disney Imagineering can focus on building the themed sets that will immerse guests in the magical Casita. A new permit was filed yesterday by Walt Disney Imagineering, and the scope of work is defined as “Install set elements”. The permit is set to expire in one year, which tells us that whatever work is contained in the scope of the permit will be finished by early March 2027 — crazy! We also noticed that the address on the permit is for a demolished backstage trailer that used to be on land that is now part of the space that the Encanto attraction takes up. ©Disney The contractor listed on the Notice of Commencement permit has worked with Walt Disney Imagineering before, helping with attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure at Shanghai Disney. The contractor has also worked on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both parks. Their work for the lands included 3D Show Set Design, Building Information Modeling, show set theming for 15 ride scenes, and more. @bioreconstruct on X Back at the D23 Expo in 2024, when Disney announced that this ride was coming to Disney World, they described it as an attraction that would take guests throughout all of Casita, most likely meeting the Madrigal family along the way. This will be any Disney park’s first attraction inspired by Encanto, and seriously can’t wait. Encanto is coming to Animal Kingdom! Something is happening at Monstropolis Let’s move on to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where a Monsters Inc. Land is coming! Last year, we saw the closure of Muppets Courtyard as Disney got ready to start construction on Monstropolis. The new land will feature a first-of-its-kind roller coaster at Disney, along with some rethemed venues. This includes the building that once housed MuppetVision 3D. Construction for Monsters Inc. Land Walt Disney Imagineering filed another new permit, and this one calls for the installation of new set elements at the former MuppetVision 3D building. The contractor listed is Adirondack Scenic, who has been a popular contractor for Disney Imagineering for some time — the same one helping with the Encanto ride. The permit expires in a year, just like the other one, indicating that the work contained within the scope of this permit will be completed by early March 2027. Working on the Muppet Vision 3D building! We’ll be completely honest, we have no idea what this attraction will entail. Details have been pretty scarce on this attraction, unlike some of the details we’ve gotten on the roller coaster. The attraction has seen a few different names in early concept art, the most recent being “The Glob”. ©Disney It’s exciting to see the work that Disney Imagineering is putting in and the rapid progress that is being made, considering the scale of these projects. Disney World is going to look very different in a few years, and seeing its transformation is going to be amazing. 25. It’s no fun when you visit your favorite theme park only to discover that its hours have changed and you won’t have as much time there as you had hoped. Now, this is something that happens often, which is why we tell you that it’s important to check park hours before your trip so you’re on top of any early closures. Main Street, U.S.A. However, we also want to make sure you stay updated on park hours. So if you happen to be planning a trip to Disney World in May and wish to visit Magic Kingdom on May 13th, we’re going to tell you to reconsider your plans. That’s because Magic Kingdom will be closing early that day. We just recently checked hours for Magic Kingdom in May and discovered that the park will be closing super early on May 13th, at 5:30 PM. That means if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom that day, you will have to leave by that time. This generally happens when there’s some kind of special event planned at the parks, like special Cast Member events. You will have to leave the park early on May 13th Now, this might not be a problem if you have the park hopper option on your Disney World ticket — you can just hop over to another park. However, many visitors choose not to get the park hopper option, so you’d be losing valuable time in Magic Kingdom, as well as missing out on both the Disney Starlight parade and the Happily Ever After fireworks, both of which are quintessential Magic Kingdom entertainment. So our best advice is if you have a trip planned to Disney World for that week, save Magic Kingdom for another day. You don’t want to miss the nighttime fireworks! We’ll continue to keep an eye on park hours in Disney World to keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
