Greetings from Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort! We’re back with another update sharing what’s new at the West Coast shopping and dining district! World of Disney in Downtown Disney Since the last time we visited Downtown, there has been quite a decent amount of new merchandise added! Plus, while dining locations like Ballast Point and Tortilla Jo’s have re-opened, one location has re-closed! Let’s recap! Merchandise Update at Downtown Disney World of Disney The bulk of the new merchandise we’ve spotted came from World of Disney. We had heard about a new Haunted Mansion face mask dropping at World of Disney, but when we arrived to check them out, we discovered a whole new collection of face masks! Enchanted Tiki Room Masks Designs included the Enchanted Tiki Room, “it’s a small world”, Tomorrowland, and more! Hello – “it’s a small world” Mask AND we found the Haunted Mansion mask everyone’s been talking about! But there weren’t that many left in stock! Haunted Mansion Mask The face masks cost $6 each and come in a variety of sizes! Read more about the new face masks in Downtown Disney We also discovered a ton of new water bottles! Staying properly hydrated is key when visiting a Disney park, especially in the summer months. And what better way to get your daily dose of water than in true Disney style? Since it launched a few weeks ago, most of this popular series has remained well stocked at World of Disney (including those beloved spirit jerseys!). The last discovery at World of Disney is another item we’ve previously found in Disney World, the Millennium Falcon Loungefly backpack! Guests Read Starbucks Closure Sign Both Starbucks locations have been open since Downtown first welcomed Guests back on July 9th, and the length of this closure is unknown at this time. Just like most of Disneyland Resort, the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California remains closed; but their concession stand is OPEN for business! ©Disney El Capitan Theatre That’s right — you won’t be able to see any Disney films screened in this fully-restored movie palace, but you CAN stop by to pick up some fresh popcorn and a few Mickey Pretzels if you want to! The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is owned by Disney and used by them for many of their movie premieres. With films such as Mulan, Jungle Cruise, and the Avatar sequels now being rescheduled, it might be a while before we get to see El Capitan debut a new Disney flick. As Hurricane Isaias takes aim at Florida’s east coast, the state is preparing for the arrival of the storm. ©WESH While Orange County officials aren’t expecting to feel much of the impact from Hurricane Isaias in the area, they’ve said they’re still prepared to weather the storm. Orange County is included in the state-of-emergency order issued by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In a Friday press conference, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said he believes the county is well prepared for the storm. He also said if residents of coastal counties evacuate, hotels in Orange County can take them in. Quoting figures from Visit Orlando, Mayor Demings said about 84% of hotels are open and only about 32% of rooms are occupied. Orlando Sign As of Saturday morning, Hurricane Isaias is on track to skirt up Florida’s east coast as early as Saturday evening. Ever since we saw the construction walls surrounding Homecomin’ when Disney Springs reopened on May 20th, we’ve been eagerly anticipating Shine Bar & Social. New Shine Bar & Social Sign Chef Art Smith had somehow managed to keep the project secret and we only found out about the new outdoor walk-up bar after Disney Springs began welcoming back guests! Recently, we saw a new Shine Bar & Social neon sign get installed, and today, it looks like an ENTIRE BAR has just magically appeared! We’ve stopped by Homecomin’ several times since its reopening for their Rise & Shine bunch and to refill our Homecomin’ squeeze bottle sippers! They’ve also begun distributing their signature moonshine cocktails in BULK to-go containers lately too! Since we’re very familiar with the layout of this fine southern establishment, we were very surprised to see a bar had virtually sprung up overnight right next to the new sign! Homecomin’s Shine Bar & Social For now, the new outdoor bar isn’t open and it’s only staged with a few bottles and other props, but we can tell this patio bar is going to be quite the place to BE when it officially opens! Homecomin’s Shine Bar & Social We had the chance to sit for a spell and chat with Chef Art Smith a few weeks ago. He told us since Homecomin’ enclosed its former outdoor patio to provide additional indoor (and air-conditioned!) seating, he was eager to build a spot for guests to sit back outside and sip on some moonshine — just like you would on a traditional southern porch! Homecomin’s Shine Bar & Social Well, it’s starting to look more and more like we’ll be doing that very soon! We’ve also been told guests will be able to order food off of Homecomin’s regular menu which is quite the boon considering how hard it can be to snag an advance dining reservation to this popular spot! We’ve found some seriously cool Star Wars merch lately, from women’s tees to Millennium Falcon backpacks! Star Wars Shirt While we were there, we found TWO new ways to complete your outfit while expressing your love of all things Star Wars! Disney World has tons of Star Wars swag for fans to collect, but these items have a fun retro vibe about them that we can’t get enough of! The first new item we found was this windbreaker jacket! It’s the middle of summer, and you know what that means! It’s time to obsess over all things AUTUMN! While summertime is something we all look forward to every year, there’s something about fall that makes us want to skip August altogether and head straight into the changing colors in the leaves, Halloween, and hot beverages. Pumpkin Spice Latte One major sign that fall is on its way is the arrival of pumpkin flavored menu items at our favorite shops and restaurants — in particular the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks. With Starbucks locations all over Disney World, we could see this wildly popular drink arrive to the parks SOON! According to WESH News, Starbucks has announced that the unofficial mascot of fall, the Pumpkin Spice Latte, will return to the menu this year once again! West Side Starbucks While we do not have an EXACT date as to when everyone’s favorite “PSL” will make its way to menus nationwide, we can take a best guess based on last year’s schedule. In 2019, the latte appeared on the menu on August 27, so that means we SHOULD be less than one month away from its triumphant return! Starbucks Coffee!! We’re hoping the return of the “PSL” will bring along with it some of our favorite autumn and Halloween-themed Starbucks drinks from years past in Disney World! Disneyland is also known to serve up some spooky sips, like the Maleficent Frappuccino and and the Dr. Facilier Elixir! Maleficent Frappuccino and Dr. Facilier Elixer With Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and California Adventure’s Oogie Boogie Bash both canceled for 2020, we can sure use some extra autumn magic coming our way! Earlier, Tropical Storm Isaias was upgraded to Hurricane Isaias and the eastern coast of Florida remains in its potential path. ©Fox35 With Hurricane Isaias pressing northwest in the Atlantic, the U.S. National Weather Service has just issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Orlando, Florida in effect until Saturday, 1:00 AM EDT. Florida Warnings The Category 1 hurricane continues to bombard the Bahamas, including Nassau, Freeport, and the Abacos Islands, where flooding due to heavy rainfall is expected. Now, the system will likely be making landfall on the southern tip of Florida, affecting various regions of the state as early as tonight. Magic Kingdom It’s possible Hurricane Isaias could potentially strengthen and be upgraded again (to a Category 2 hurricane), and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed an order issuing a state of emergency for 19 eastern counties in Florida earlier today. At this time, Orange and Osceola counties (where Disney World resides) are not included in the state of emergency order, although a few inland Florida counties are. As of now, officials do not foresee the storm will require the use of their shelters, but they strongly caution those in the path of Hurricane Isaias to be prepared. Make sure you have provisions at the ready and power outages are likely to occur. See How Florida Has Been Rewriting Its Hurricane Policy This Year Walt Disney World Entrance Hurricane Isaias is expected to remain a hurricane for several days. That means other southeastern U.S. states might want to get food and water supplies together as well. Tomorrowland Earlier today, we posted that an iconic Tomorrowland Attraction had had an inexplicable and lengthy downtime for the past two days. Now, that downtime is over. That’s right, Carousel of Progress is back up and running! We were checking in on wait times in Magic Kingdom around 5PM today when we spotted that Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is no longer listed as temporarily unavailable. Disney World has been open again for a few weeks now, and the rides have been the main attractions. Magic Kingdom Most rides are OPEN in the parks. Though there are some expected closures, there have also been some UNEXPECTED closures like the Tomorrowland Transit Authority Peoplemover, and now Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, too! For the past two days, Carousel of Progress has not been running and has been marked as “Temporarily Closed” on the My Disney Experience app. This Morning’s Wait Times Well, we do like the sound of “temporary!” We’re not sure what the reason behind this closure is, but hopefully, the beloved and historic attraction is up and running again soon. Present Wait Times Stay tuned to DFB for ALL of the latest updates about rides and attractions in Disney World.
