From flight prices to checked bag rules, 2026 has been a strict and tougher year for traveling! Baggage claim! We have been getting a lot of news regarding flights in 2026, and it doesn’t look like there are any signs of it slowing down. Based on how everything has gone this year so far, there are some things you need to be aware of if you’re bringing a checked bag. Prices Have Gone UP As jet fuel prices have gone up, checked baggage prices have also gone up. Almost every airline has increased the cost of bringing a first and second checked bag onto a flight. Delta Air Lines now charges $45 for the first checked bag, and the $55 for the second. Southwest Airlines charges $45 instead of $35 for the first checked bag, with the second checked bag costing $55. Baggage claim at MCO! United Airlines charges $50 for the first checked bag, and JetBlue charges $39 for the first checked bag during off-peak travel times, or $49 during peak times like the summer and major holidays. Finally, American Airlines charges $45 for the first checked bag and $55 for the second, while a third checked bag will cost $200. Baggage claim Weight Flights have been getting stricter this year, especially when it comes to checked baggage. If you have a flight this summer, make sure to pay attention to your bag’s weight. The standard maximum weight for checked bags on flights is 50 lbs, and airlines are buckling down on that a little more. We recommend weighing your bag on a scale at home before you make your way to the airport! Orlando Airport New Rule About Batteries! There have been new rules being put in place on bringing lithium-ion batteries onto flights. Strict portable charger policies are becoming “industry standard among major carriers, following a string of fires sparked by lithium-ion batteries onboard flights operated by several different airlines last year.” American Airlines requires travelers to keep any portable charges that they have with them visible and within reach while being used. American Airlines Passengers will be limited to two portable chargers that do not exceed 100 watt-hours each. The airline also noted that any portable chargers that contain lithium-ion batteries intended to charge personal electronic devices can not be stored in overhead bins and cannot be recharged during the flight. So, be aware when you’re packing portable chargers, and which kind you’re packing. American Airlines Carry-On Size We’ve been in situations where we had a bag that was larger than the regular carry-on size, but we were using it as a carry-on. When we got to our gate, we ended up having to check the bag. Again, flights are seemingly getting more strict. So pay attention to the size of your carry-on when you leave for the airport, because they may make you check it, even if it’s a tiny bit bigger than the average carry-on. United Airlines Full Flights Lastly, be aware that busy flights are 100% overestimating how many carry-on bags there are when boarding passengers. They almost always ask people to volunteer to check the carry-on at the gate. If you know you want yours in the overhead bin, it may be best to make sure you’re in an early boarding group. Disney Cruise Line is deepening its commitment to making a real difference in the communities it calls home with a major expansion of The Play Project, a community-led initiative that’s bringing new energy to youth sports and play spaces across The Bahamas. This next chapter will deliver upgraded facilities to even more islands — now with new collaborators, including ESPN — with refurbished baseball fields, basketball courts, and track and field grounds in Eleuthera, Nassau, and Abaco. The goal is to create more places for kids to be active, compete and simply be kids. “Through The Play Project, our teams are working with community leaders in Eleuthera, Nassau and Abaco to provide youth with safe places to play, learn and connect,” said Joey Gaskins, regional public affairs director for Disney Cruise Line. “This next phase builds on the magic and momentum of our first year by expanding to more communities while introducing new sports and strengthening bonds between Disney and our port communities.” Impact Over a Year in the Making The mission began when Disney Cruise Line opened Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in 2024. Seeking to create vibrant spaces for Bahamian youth, Disney teamed up with the global nonprofit love.fútbol and local residents to design essential play spaces. In its inaugural year, efforts were focused on South and Central Eleuthera. Six primary schools — P.A. Gibson, Deep Creek, Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound, Wemyss Bight, and Green Castle — received revitalized play spaces. This massive undertaking in 2025 was fueled by the hands-on dedication of more than 230 Disney VoluntEARS, who worked alongside Bahamian officials, teachers, and students to create what has become a community-led success story. One year later, The Play Project has created more than 32,000 hours of annual play for local children. As The Play Project moves into its second year, this successful model in Eleuthera has served as a blueprint for growth, allowing the initiative to expand into Nassau and Abaco and continue its mission of bringing the magic of play to students across The Bahamas. New Partners, New Possibilities Disney Cruise Line tapped into the power of The Walt Disney Company to bring ESPN’s “Take Back Sports” initiative to help drive support for The Play Project. “Take Back Sports” aims to reverse the decline in youth sports participation by dismantling barriers such as rising costs and providing free programming to ensure that sports remain within reach, inclusive, and — most importantly — fun for the next generation of athletes. “The Walt Disney Company and ESPN are working to make youth sports more accessible,” said Kevin Martinez, vice president of ESPN corporate citizenship. “We’re thrilled to support young athletes with resources so kids can take advantage of the many life skills that sports have to offer.” In The Bahamas, this initiative aims to reduce barriers to youth sports, providing resources to athletes, parents, and coaches alike, and the introduction of ESPN and “Taking Back Sports” will help to amplify local stories of resilience and joy. Team Spirit and Homeruns in Eleuthera This year, The Play Project returned to where it all began, revitalizing even more spaces in South and Central Eleuthera. Whether it’s resurfacing baseball fields at Tarpum Bay or installing new playgrounds at Emily G. Petty and Emma E. Cooper schools, the goal remains the same: creating a lasting legacy of play. “Disney Cruise Line continues to show its commitment to communities in Central and South Eleuthera with the expansion of the Play Project initiative,” said Hon. Clay Sweeting, Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs and Member of Parliament for Central and South Eleuthera. “Programs and corporate engagement like this are an important part of the incredible economic development Eleuthera is now experiencing.” Looking Toward a Bright Future The momentum won’t stop in Eleuthera. Disney Cruise Line and international non-profit love.fútbol will also lead community “build days” in Abaco and Nassau this summer. “We see play as a powerful platform for creating lasting impact for children and the places they call home,” said Manoel Silva, chief operating officer of love.fútbol. In Nassau, DCL is collaborating with the Buddy Hield Foundation for a total revitalization of the sports spaces at Woodcock Primary School, culminating in a community basketball tournament hosted by Bahamian NBA star Buddy Hield to tip off the opening of the new facilities. From repaved courts and professional painting to new volleyball poles and basketball rims, the school will be transformed into a vibrant hub for student athletes. By August 2026, students across the Bahamas will have access to even more rewarding play environments. This initiative is a cornerstone of Disney Cruise Line’s year-round commitment to the people of the Bahamas — an effort recently recognized on Forbes’ 2026 List of America’s Best Brands for Social Impact. Happy Star Wars Day, everyone! May the 4th be with you! Star Wars time! We’re checking out all the Star Wars snacks and popcorn buckets you can get right now in Disney World. From tiny lightsabers to chocolate X-Wings and more, here’s your full guide to Star Wars snacks in Disney World. First, we started in Hollywood Studios, where we tried the Your Chosen Path Cupcake for $6.79 at Backlot Express. It’s a cookies and cream supcake with marshmallow buttercream, a white chocolate X-Wing, and milk chocolate rocks. Inside, there’s a secret lightsaber color that will reveal itself once you start eating. Your Chosen Path Cupcake This treat melts fast, so be ready to eat it quickly! The cookies and cream frosting is rich and sweet and truly tastes like real Oreos. The small milk chocolate rocks on top added a nice crunch, and the chocolate X-Wing was a fun white chocolate treat. It doesn’t quite blend into the flavors, but we enjoyed the Star Wars twist. The frosting on the bottom had a subtle vanilla flavor that felt a bit thicker, but overall, this cupcake was very messy but very fun. It was filling and an easy one to share around the table. Ours was red on the inside At the Milk Stand, we tried the Pink Milk for $9.79, a plant-based rice milk with sweet, fruity notes. Pink Milk This was so fun! We’ve had the blue and green milk for years, but this was such a fun twist. It almost tasted like a candy without the tartness. In a way, it reminded us of bubblegum but with a more strawberry and fruity flavor. It’s the same consistency as the other milk, too, and is a lighter take on the other flavors. It’s like a slushy We also have the Pink Milk Cooler with Rum for $18, which is the same drink as the Pink Milk but with an alcoholic twist. Pink Milk Cooler This tasted just like the other pink milk but with rum! The alcohol is served on top, so you’ll want to mix it before drinking. The fruity flavors were more muted since the alcohol really came through, and we thought the drink was smoother and less sweet than the traditional version. If you want in on the fun but don’t feel as connected to a normal slushy, this is a fun, adult version. Another treat we tried here was the Kerkoiden Blue Cake for $5.29, which is made with a spiced vanilla shortbread cookie with ginger cream cheese icing. Kerkoiden Blue Cake The blueberry flavor really came through, reminding us of a blueberry muffin! The cookie has a layer of icing on top with a sweet vanilla flavor, adding a smooth sweetness that blends well with the blueberry. This is a pretty messy snack, and your hands might be dyed blue at the end, but it was a nice, affordable snack to keep you going throughout your Star Wars day. A simple, but tasty, cookie Heading to Docking Bay 7, we tried the Moof Juice with Rechargeable Lightsaber Swizzle Stick for $15.99. This is Simply Fruit Punch, Simply Orange with Pineapple, and Chipotle-Pineapple served with your choice of rechargeable lightsaber swizzle stick. Moof Juice with Rechargeable Lightsaber Swizzle Stick Perfectly refreshing! It wasn’t too sweet, and we think it’s one of the better alcohol free drinks you can grab around Galaxy’s Edge. The juice flavors all blended together with a strong citrus taste, and we think kids are really going to enjoy this one. Plus, you get a pretty cool lightsaber. At Disney Springs, we grabbed the Bright Suns Chocolate Mousse for $9, which is a milk chocolate mousse, lemon curd, tangerine, and brown butter cake at Amorette’s Patisserie. Bright Suns Chocolate Mousse A chocolate lover’s dream! The brownie is dense and fudgy with a full of dark chocolate shots, while the mousse is very light and chocolatey. The dark chocolate decoration is very delicate and will start melting as soon as you touch it. The brownie was a bit difficult to eat since it’s pretty dense, but it was still great to eat. Brownie time! New popcorn buckets were released, too! We grabbed the Salvaged Protocol Droid Popcorn Bucket, which looks like a droid head. Salvaged Protocol Droid Popcorn Bucket I think it’s the eyes that make it look so cool! He looks pretty familar! You can also grab the Bantha Sipper, which is far too cute. Bantha Sipper What a great Star Wars Day! Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more of the best Disney news. Disney adults do not casually prepare for vacation. We research. We optimize. We pack like we’re heading into a lightly themed wilderness survival scenario with snacks, chargers, backup chargers, blister bandages, and at least one purchase that makes other people say, “You bought what for Disney World?” Enter the Oura Ring. ©Amazon And honestly? I get it. If you’re the kind of person who wants to know whether you’re actually rested enough for rope drop, whether that EPCOT festival day cooked your battery, or whether your body is quietly filing a complaint after three straight park days, the Oura Ring has become a very tempting little piece of tech. The Amazon angle makes it even more appealing, because this is one of those purchases that practically begs to be bundled with the accessories you already know you’re going to want five minutes later. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Oura Ring 4 in Ceramic Midnight The headliner here is the Oura Ring 4 in Ceramic Midnight, Size 7, which Amazon lists as tracking sleep, activity, women’s health, and AI-powered insights, with Android and iOS compatibility and up to 8 days of battery life. Amazon also flags this as a “size before you buy” product, which is not just friendly advice. It is a warning from the gods. ©Amazon Because here’s the thing: Oura Ring 4 sizing is not standard ring sizing. Amazon’s Oura Ring 4 Sizing Kit says that directly, and notes that buyers can get a $10 Amazon credit toward their Oura Ring 4 purchase after buying the kit. That is exactly the kind of practical Amazon perk I love, because it gives readers a way to avoid guessing their size based on vibes, delusion, or one ring they bought at Claire’s in 2007. Look, this is not a “do you need this to survive Disney World?” item. You do not. People have been walking into Magic Kingdom for decades without a titanium smart ring whispering data into their phones. ©Amazon But if you’re already the type of traveler who watches your sleep, recovery, stress, and activity levels, the Oura Ring makes a weird amount of sense. It’s subtle, it doesn’t take up wrist space, and it’s built for the person who wants health insights without looking like they’re wearing a tiny tablet to dinner. Oura says membership unlocks the full experience, including personalized health insights, and that new members get their first month free before the membership continues at $5.99/month. That’s worth mentioning, because this is not just a one-and-done purchase. This ring arrives with a tiny subscription-shaped side quest. ©Amazon Still, I can absolutely see why Disney fans are into it. This is the same audience that will debate shoe strategy, mobile order timing, monorail math, and the ideal number of backup batteries for one humid afternoon. A ring that quietly tracks whether your body is thriving or staging a rebellion? That’s catnip for us view ON AMAZON BOVIPO 4-in-1 Charging Station for Oura Ring Gen 3 Charger And this is where Amazon starts doing what Amazon does best: whispering, “You’re already here. You may as well get the accessories too.” ©Amazon One of the add-ons we’re highlighting is the BOVIPO 4-in-1 Charging Station for Oura Ring Gen 3 Charger. It’s designed to work with an Oura Ring Gen 3 charger. It also functions as a multi-device wireless charging station for products like iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Samsung Galaxy devices. In other words, this is for the person who wants one tidy charging setup on the nightstand instead of a spaghetti bowl of cords and regret. ©Amazon That said, here is your friendly reality check before anyone rage-clicks “Add to Cart” at 1:12 AM: this specific BOVIPO charger listing is tied to Gen 3, while the featured ring above is Oura Ring 4. So this is not a “grab blindly and trust the universe” situation. This is a “double-check your charger compatibility like the responsible adult you briefly become when electronics are involved” situation. view ON AMAZON 10-pack of ring covers The sleeper hit in this little Amazon lineup might actually be the 10-pack of ring covers compatible with Oura Ring Gen 4 / 4 Ceramic and Gen 3 Horizon / Heritage. These silicone protectors are designed to help prevent scratches, support charging with the cover on, and work for people wearing the ring during workouts or other daily chaos. And frankly? That makes sense. ©Amazon Because if you’re wearing an Oura Ring to Disney World, that ring is about to experience things. It’s going to grip ride lap bars, scrape against park bags, bump into mobile order counters, get whacked by stroller handles, and possibly take one direct hit during an aggressive sunscreen application in Fantasyland. A ring cover is not glamorous, but neither is realizing you scratched your expensive smart ring because you were trying to carry a coffee, a poncho, and your dignity all at once. ©Amazon This is also very Amazon-coded shopping, which I mean as a compliment. You buy the ring, and then suddenly you’re buying the protective covers because obviously. Because of course you are. Because deep down, you already know Future You is clumsy. view ON AMAZON The biggest reason this works as an Amazon story is convenience. You can buy the ring, grab the sizing kit first if you’re being smart, toss in the protectors, and sort out your charging setup all in one place. That is very appealing for Disney travelers, who are already building trip-prep carts like they’re assembling a mildly unhinged survival kit for a weeklong expedition into churros, crowds, and weather that feels personal. And unlike buying just the ring and calling it a day, the Amazon route lets you build the whole ecosystem around it. That’s the pitch. Not just “here’s a smart ring,” but “here’s the smart ring, here’s how not to order the wrong size, here’s how to protect it, and here’s a charging option you need to verify before you commit with the confidence of a man buying a lightsaber after two beers in Galaxy’s Edge.” We’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney souvenirs and essentials, so don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more! May the 4th be with you! Yes, we’ve made that joke all day, and no, we’re not tired of it yet. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge There is no better place to celebrate Star Wars Day than by going to Disney Parks! Now, we’re not the only people who want to celebrate this iconic holiday in the theme parks, and that means the crowds have arrived like the Millennium Falcon. Starting us off in Hollywood Studios in Disney World, it was BUSY, but that’s to no one’s surprise. Here’s a look at the marketplace… Marketplace …and Ronto Roasters (gotta get those Ronto Wraps!). Ronto Roasters Busy, busy. Galaxy’s Edge Wait times weren’t too wild. We saw Rise of the Resistance get up to 95, but later in the day, it was only at 80 minutes. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was around 40 minutes, too. Our underrated favorite, Star Tours, was a walk-on (per usual). ©Disney A lot of the crowds come for the evening, when there’s a lightsaber meetup. When it gets dark, everyone lights up their lightsabers in front of the Millennium Falcon. Check out the pictures from last year! Lighting up the night with lightsabers Over in Disneyland, the crowds looked very similar (partly because the lands look so similar). Disneyland We definitely felt the crowds in the walkways. A bit hard to walk through There were quieter moments while walking around, which we appreciated. Again, people are likely waiting to come till the evening, so it’s a bit darker (and cooler) out. Moments of calmness Wait times looked very similar in Disneyland, with Rise of the Resistance being at 75 minutes, but Smugglers Run was only 15 minutes, while Star Tours was at 25 minutes, so a bit of a switch-a-roo. There are a lot more cabins in Star Tours in Disney World! In the meantime, make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news. You may be tired of hearing the words “major changes,” “closures,” and “Disney World” all in the same sentence, but we’re here, yet again, to warn you that in just ONE week, a massive change is going to take place in Magic Kingdom that you need to know about! The Diamond Horseshoe Disney World’s Cool KIDS’ SUMMER event is set to begin on May 26th and run through September 8th, and as part of the event, numerous additions are coming to the four theme parks. Over in Magic Kingdom, there’s one restaurant that’s about to close to make room for a summer experience, which means this will be your last week to dine here for quite some time! Many people walk straight by The Diamond Horseshoe in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square section. If people are craving the Thanksgiving-type meal all year, they usually head straight to Liberty Tree Tavern. That restaurant is delicious, don’t get us wrong, but The Diamond Horseshoe has the EXACT same menu, but often has way more reservations available. The Diamond Horseshoe The ambiance of the restaurant is intended to bring diners back to the Wild West saloons of days past, where cowboys would gather for a good, hearty meal, as well as some entertainment. Despite not being talked about often, it has very rarely let us down, and remains a hidden gem in the park. Diamond Horseshoe However, beginning next week, on May 16th, it’ll be closing to make way for a new experience arriving for Cool KIDS’ SUMMER. Jessie’s Roundup will feature beloved Toy Story characters like Woody, Jessie, and other friends as they encourage guests to participate in some “energetic fun.” Woody and Jessie! Now, this new experience will NOT involve eating, so the entire restaurant portion of this will be going away for the summer. Instead, you’ll be able to participate in crafts, dancing, and maybe even some yodeling from May 26th through September 8th. Disney hasn’t announced too many details about this new experience, despite being less than a month away from opening, but we’re still keeping our eyes out for the latest news to let you know more as soon as we hear it. While it hasn’t been confirmed, our assumption is that the restaurant will return to its full dining experience a few weeks after September 8th. More Recent Cool KIDS' SUMMER News! We go to Disney World almost every day, which means we’re always on the lookout for new gear and travel essentials that should make it into your park bag. We wore poncho pants in Disney World We’ve tried everything from water bottles to rain hats to mobile chargers to neck fans. Let’s talk about rain gear, though. Now, we’ve already discovered that shoe covers and ponchos are VERY handy to have in the theme parks, but what about poncho pants? No, really…those are a thing that exists, and we tested them in Disney World. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Get the Disposable Rain Pants, aka Poncho Pants Wearing our poncho pants Okay, for starters, rain is going to happen in Disney World, and you want to stay dry. So on the surface, poncho pants seem like a great idea. So we got this eight-pack of blue and clear poncho pants, but y’all…the material is SO thin. We’re talking produce bag thin. Eight-pack of poncho pants Another problem with these pants is that the leg is not open. It’s sealed. The legs are long enough to fit someone at least 7 feet tall, so you’ll want to cut the pants to length before you use them. However, they could be sealed so you can wear them over your legs and your shoes, but we really don’t think the plastic would last if you had them wrapped around your shoes. Poncho Pants Once you’re wearing the pants, they will certainly keep your legs dry, but that comes at a price. The price is that these will make your legs sweat because they are HOT. Plastic doesn’t breathe, and you’re going to be losing a lot of water weight when you’re wearing them. This doesn’t make them ideal for wearing in Disney World. They don’t breathe So you have to ask yourself…do you want your legs dry or sweaty? Considering these could dehydrate you pretty quickly, our vote is for wet legs. However, you can always try them out for yourself! view ON AMAZON We’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney souvenirs and essentials, so don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is reopening at Magic Kingdom soon, but when will be the best time for you to ride it? Big Thunder Mountain Railroad This coaster has been closed for a lengthy refurbishment, and it will reopen on May 3rd. Disney has announced that when the “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” reopens, it will not be available during Early Theme Park Entry for Disney resort guests. That leaves many guests wondering, when will be the best time to ride? The Updates According to Disney, the updates to the tracks and the trains were carefully “planned to preserve the attraction’s classic storytelling and trademark hootin’ an’ hollerin’ energy” while improving the ride experience. The new ride vehicles! In fact, these changes — and a “comprehensive review from their safety teams” — have even allowed Disney to lower the ride’s height requirement from 40 inches to 38 inches, allowing younger riders to experience the attraction even earlier! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad However, beyond these infrastructure changes, Big Thunder is also receiving a new show scene featuring phosphorescent pools, shimmering and illuminating iridescent stalagmites and stalactites in a spectacularly colorful recreation of natural caverns. ©Disney Best Shot: Lightning Lane Big Thunder Mountain will be added to the Magic Kingdom’s Tier 1 Lightning Lane options on opening day. If you want a shorter wait time, purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass is likely your best option. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Queue Entrance Other Times to Ride If you are unable to grab a Big Thunder Mountain Lightning Lane or do not want to purchase Lightning Lane, don’t worry! We have tips for you based on ride wait time trends we see. If you’re a morning person, we recommend rope dropping the attraction. While it is not a part of Early Theme Park Entry, you can head straight for it as soon as the park opens for the day. Will it be a walk-on? Doubtful, as other guests will have the same idea, but the wait during this time will likely be shorter than later on in the day. Big Thunder Mountain You can also head here to ride during the Festival of Fantasy Parade or during Happily Ever After for shorter wait times. Many guests start finding their spot for these things beforehand, and that can draw a lot of guests away from popular attractions. Bonus: riding Big Thunder Mountain during the fireworks is a blast! You do get a partial view of them, and it truly feels magical. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Finally, as a reminder, as long as you are in line for an attraction before park close, you are able to ride. This means if Magic Kingdom closes at 9 PM, and you enter the queue at 8:59 PM, you will be allowed to ride, barring any weather or mechanical issues. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad We can’t wait to see what the changes are like at Big Thunder Mountain when it reopens. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of those hotels where people don’t just book a room. They book a fantasy. A monorail fantasy. A Dole Whip fantasy. A “watching Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach while pretending your inbox doesn’t exist” fantasy. A “yes, this lobby smells expensive and I support that” fantasy. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort But here’s the catch: the Polynesian is big. Not “oops, wrong hallway” big. More like “why does my room feel like it’s in a different ZIP code from Capt. Cook’s?” big. And when you’re paying Deluxe Resort prices, your room location matters. Because there is a very real difference between “quick stroll to the monorail” and “begin the ceremonial migration to breakfast.” So while Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has hundreds of rooms, these are the specific rooms and longhouse locations you’ll want to know before you make your next request. Because at the Polynesian, the right room can mean fewer steps, better fireworks views, faster coffee access, and significantly less vacation grumbling before 9AM. The Lei of the Land The Polynesian is one of Walt Disney World’s original resort hotels, opening alongside the resort in 1971. It sits on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon and is organized around the Great Ceremonial House, which is the main hub for the lobby, shops, restaurants, monorail access, and general “I have arrived at vacation” feelings. Disney’s Polynesian Resort Instead of one giant hotel tower, most rooms are spread throughout smaller buildings called longhouses. Many of those longhouse names are inspired by islands throughout Polynesia and the South Pacific, which is why you’ll see names like Samoa, Fiji, Moorea, Tokelau, Rarotonga, Aotearoa, Pago Pago, and Niue around the resort. A fun little Polynesian tidbit? The resort’s longhouse names have changed over the years, with several buildings renamed in 1999 to better reflect island geography. So yes, if you ever hear a longtime Disney fan say, “Well, back when Moorea was Tahiti,” just nod respectfully and back away slowly. You have encountered a Resort Lore Elder. Welcome to the Polynesian! The Polynesian is also one of Disney World’s most transportation-friendly hotels. You can take the resort monorail, a water taxi, or even walk to Magic Kingdom via the Grand Floridian pathway. For EPCOT, many guests walk over to the Transportation and Ticket Center to catch the EPCOT monorail. Buses serve other destinations like Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, water parks, and Disney Springs. So let’s talk room locations. 1. Pago Pago Rooms 1125 and 1126: For the TTC Walkway Warriors If you are the kind of person who wants quick access to the Transportation and Ticket Center, Pago Pago rooms 1125 and 1126 are worth keeping on your radar. Polynesian Monorail Sign These first-floor rooms are especially convenient if you plan to use the TTC walkway often. That can be a big deal for EPCOT days, since the TTC is where you can hop on the EPCOT monorail. It’s also handy if you’re driving, since these rooms are close to the parking lot. This is not necessarily the most glamorous request on the list. We are not saying, “Behold, your cinematic lagoon vista!” We are saying, “Behold, fewer steps when your child has turned into a melted churro at 10:37 PM.” And sometimes, that is the greater luxury. These rooms are especially good for: Families with cars Guests planning multiple EPCOT days People who value transportation efficiency over scenery Anyone who wants to avoid the late-night resort death march This is your “I have logistics and I’m not afraid to use them” room request. 2. Moorea Rooms 3031, 3032, and 3033: For Fireworks Without the Palm Tree Photobomb Moorea is part of the Disney Vacation Club side of the resort, and it has a serious little perk: fireworks views. Now, rooms on this side of Moorea can offer views toward Magic Kingdom fireworks over Seven Seas Lagoon. But rooms 3031, 3032, and 3033 on the third floor are especially interesting because their views are not blocked by palm trees and they look out over the bungalows. This matters because a “fireworks view” can mean many things at Disney World. Sometimes it means Cinderella Castle glowing in the distance. Sometimes it means “I can see 41% of a burst if I lean over the balcony like I’m auditioning for a pirate movie.” Details matter, friends. Third-floor Moorea rooms can be a big win if you want that dreamy Polynesian experience: lagoon, bungalows, fireworks, and the smug satisfaction of not having to fight the Magic Kingdom exit crowd after Happily Ever After. ©Disney Tourist Blog The Polynesian has long been a favorite for fireworks viewing outside the park, and along the shoreline you can catch some of the best Magic Kingdom fireworks views without being physically absorbed into a Main Street crowd cloud. These rooms are especially good for: Disney Vacation Club guests Couples or families who love fireworks Guests who want a quieter, more scenic stay People who want balcony vibes with a side of castle sparkle Just remember: fireworks views depend on room category, room assignment, trees, weather, and the mysterious room-allocation goblin who controls our vacation destinies. 3. Tokelau Rooms 1947, 1948, 1930, 1901, 1902, and 1927: For Quiet Pool People Tokelau is another DVC longhouse, and if your vacation personality is “please point me toward the calmer pool before I perish,” this is the area to know. Rooms 1947, 1948, 1930, 1901, 1902, and 1927 offer a super short walk to the quiet pool, also known as the Oasis Pool. Disney describes the Oasis Pool as a more tranquil, all-ages leisure pool tucked among the resort’s lush gardens. Translation: fewer volcano slide shrieks, more “I would like to sip something cold and pretend I don’t have email.” The Lava Pool is the showpiece pool at the Polynesian, complete with a volcano, waterfall, zero-entry area, and 142-foot-long waterslide. It’s great. It’s iconic. It’s also where your relaxing pool afternoon can suddenly become a Marco Polo tournament with emotional stakes. Lava Pool at the Polynesian The Oasis Pool, meanwhile, is often the better pick for guests who want a calmer place to swim, lounge, or recover after a park morning that included 23,000 steps and one very intense mobile order debate. These rooms are especially good for: DVC guests who want quick pool access Adults seeking a calmer swim situation Families with kids who do better away from the main pool chaos Guests who plan regular midday breaks Basically, if your dream Disney vacation includes the words “pool break” and not the phrase “I can hear the waterslide from my soul,” Tokelau is your friend. 4. Rarotonga Room 1830 and Niue Room 1711: For Lobby, Buses, and Coffee Emergencies If convenience is your love language, look at Rarotonga room 1830 and Niue room 1711. These rooms are among the closest to the Great Ceremonial House and buses, which is a big deal at the Polynesian. The Great Ceremonial House is where you’ll find the lobby, monorail station, shops like BouTiki and Moana Mercantile, and dining options including Capt. Cook’s, Kona Cafe, Tambu Lounge, and ‘Ohana. In practical terms, that means you’re close to coffee, transportation, shopping, food, and a climate-controlled place to stand when Florida decides to become soup. This can be especially helpful if you’re traveling with little kids, grandparents, mobility concerns, or people who become emotionally unstable when breakfast is more than 300 steps away. No judgment. We are those people. Great Ceremonial House Rarotonga is particularly beloved for its central location near the Great Ceremonial House, while Niue is small, convenient, and tucked near both the central hub and pool areas. These are not necessarily the rooms you request when you want to feel hidden away from humanity. These are the rooms you request when you want your resort stay to feel easy. These rooms are especially good for: First-time Polynesian guests Families with strollers Guests relying heavily on buses or monorail access People who make frequent Capt. Cook’s runs Anyone who values “close to everything” over “remote tropical solitude” This is the room-request equivalent of sensible shoes. Not always glamorous, but deeply correct. 5. Samoa Rooms 1610 and 1611: For Main Pool and Fireworks Energy Samoa rooms 1610 and 1611 are the ones to watch if you want to be near the Lava Pool, close to the beach, and well-positioned for Magic Kingdom fireworks viewing. The Lava Pool is the Polynesian’s feature pool, and it brings the full Disney resort drama: volcano, waterfall, waterslide, zero-entry area, and that “yes, we paid Deluxe resort prices and we WILL enjoy this pool” energy. Samoa’s location makes it a strong pick for families who expect to spend a lot of time swimming. Rooms 1610 and 1611 are especially appealing because they offer a very short walk to the main pool and are also close to the beach area for fireworks views. This is a great setup if your ideal evening looks like this: swim, dry off badly, wander to the beach, watch fireworks, return to room with sandy feet, pretend you’ll shower everyone before bed, fail. Polynesian Village Resort Guest Room Classic Disney parenting. Beautiful. Damp. Slightly sticky. These rooms are especially good for: Families who want quick Lava Pool access Guests who plan afternoon swim breaks People who want easy beach access for fireworks Anyone who likes being near the action If you want a calmer pool option nearby, Niue rooms 1705 and 1706 are also worth noting because they’re a short walk to both the quiet pool and the main pool. Samoa room 1601 is also a short walk to the quiet pool, making it another handy location if you want pool access without committing fully to Lava Pool Central Command. Bonus Pick: Aotearoa Room 1201 and Fiji Room 1322 for Island Tower Pool Access The opening of Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows changed the Polynesian’s geography a bit, in a good way. Island Tower opened in December 2024 and added more than 260 rooms, plus new amenities including Cove Pool, Moana’s Voyage splash area, Wailulu Bar & Grill, and tropical terrace gardens. Moana’s Voyage Splash Pad That means some existing longhouses suddenly became more interesting because of their proximity to the newer amenities. Aotearoa room 1201 is especially notable because it’s close to the Island Tower Cove Pool and Moana’s Voyage splash pad, while also being a short walk to Capt. Cook’s. Fiji room 1322 is another strong pick because it sits directly across from the Island Tower Cove Pool and Moana splash pad area. Disney describes Cove Pool as a zero-entry pool at Island Tower, and Moana’s Voyage as a splash area with life-size sculptures of Moana and her canoe. Basically, if you have little Moana fans in your group, this is not a minor detail. This is vacation diplomacy. These rooms are especially good for: Families with younger kids Guests who want to use the newer Island Tower pool area Moana fans People who want quick access to both newer amenities and classic Polynesian dining If the Lava Pool is too busy or too much, being close to Cove Pool and Moana’s Voyage can feel like discovering a secret side door into sanity. How to Actually Request These Rooms Now for the tiny but important bubble-bursting moment: Disney does not guarantee room requests. You can request a specific room number, but it is often smarter to request the feature that matters most to you. For example, instead of only asking for “room 1611,” you might say, “Samoa, near Lava Pool, first floor if available.” Instead of only asking for “Moorea 3032,” you might say, “Moorea, third floor, unobstructed fireworks view if available.” Beautiful views from the beach That gives room assigners more flexibility to match the thing you actually care about. Because if room 3032 is unavailable but room 3031 is open, congratulations, you still win. If you only asked for one exact number, you may have accidentally boxed yourself into a tiny administrative coconut. What Should You Prioritize? The best room request at the Polynesian depends on your vacation style. If you’re using the TTC often, Pago Pago is a smart request. If you want fireworks, Moorea’s third-floor rooms are the dream. If you want a calm pool nearby, Tokelau is a great DVC pick. If you want the easiest access to the Great Ceremonial House and buses, Rarotonga and Niue are your convenience champions. If you’re pool-focused and want beach access, Samoa is hard to beat. If you’re excited about the newer Island Tower amenities, look at Aotearoa and Fiji. Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Basically, the “best” room at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is not always the one with the fanciest view. Sometimes it’s the one that saves your feet, your patience, and your ability to get coffee without needing a sherpa. Your Polynesian Room Game Plan Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is one of the most beloved hotels in Disney World for a reason. It has the nostalgia, the location, the food, the transportation, the fireworks views, the pools, and the overall “I am on vacation and nothing can hurt me except this hotel bill” atmosphere. But with 847 rooms across a sprawling resort, your room location can seriously shape your trip. So before you check in, think about what matters most. Transportation? Fireworks? Pools? Lobby access? Quiet? A shorter walk to coffee because you are a human being with needs? Make the request. Be polite. Be flexible. And may the room-assignment gods bless you with a balcony, a good view, and a suspiciously short walk to Capt. Cook’s.
