I’m a Disney World reporter, and whenever I say that, people have a LOT of questions!

It’s a pretty rare job, and so friends, family members, and strangers are often curious about what it is that I actually do on a workday. Me and my reporter teammates get asked many of the same questions over and over again, so I’m coming clean today! I’m here to answer the most popular questions about my job.
How Often Do You Go to Disney World?
Typically the first question I get asked when I tell people what I do for work is, “How often do you go to Disney World?” The answer will vary slightly between the reporters on our team, but for me personally, it’s usually 2-4 times a week.

Like most jobs, we work 5 days a week. Several of us on the reporter team are hybrid reporter/writers, which means that I work from home on the days when I’m not in the parks, writing articles like this one! I also use those work-from-home days to help cover major news on the blog or to write the restaurant reviews that I cover when I’m out in Disney World.

It’s a nice balance, because being out in the Florida sun for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, can take a toll on your body! Especially when you’re doing 15,000+ steps per day.
Does Disney Pay You?
Another common question I get asked frequently is if Disney pays me or the company to cover news in the parks. And the answer? A resounding NO. Disney Food Blog is not associated with The Walt Disney Company or Walt Disney World, as we’re a third-party site run by fans. We’re not employed by Disney, and they don’t pay us to cover the news in the parks or for any of the other locations.

However, sometimes Disney will invite us to media events in the parks or at other locations. During those instances, we will always disclose that information in our articles and social media posts. Even at media events, we’re not required to review our experience positively, and we constantly strive to be as honest as possible (we’ll definitely tell you if something is “bad” or not worth the cost). The vast majority of food we eat, hotels we stay in, tours we review, etc., are paid for by Disney Food Blog.

As for me, I get paid directly by Disney Food Blog. This is a real job like any other career out there, and the company makes money through a variety of methods (yes, like ads on the website and YouTube channel) so that all of us employees can be supported!
Is There Really Enough to Cover in the Parks ALL Day?
Surprisingly, YES! Before I took this job, I didn’t realize just how much Disney World news there was to cover, but it’s honestly shocking. During my park days, I’ll spend an entire 8 hours walking through the parks to search for news.

These news searches typically include looking for new merchandise in all the gift shops, checking restaurant menus for new items, and searching for updates on the major construction projects around Disney World. In one shift, I typically have time to hit 2 or more locations, which could include any of the theme parks, Disney Springs, or any of the Disney World hotels.

And then sometimes, my day will also be filled with snack reviews, restaurant reviews, or special events! There are plenty of ways that my day could be filled when I go to Disney World, and no two days are ever the exact same.
Does Disney World Ever Lose Its Magic?
As a die-hard Disney World fan, you’re probably expecting me to answer “No!” to this question. However, I’ve got to be honest! Disney World doesn’t really lose it’s magic per se, but if I go several days in a row without any major updates to cover, it can get a smidge mundane.

When I visit the parks, I’m not having the same experience that a regular visitor has — I’m spending all my time observing and searching. I’m not usually hopping on rides or watching shows, and the job can actually be pretty challenging when there’s a lot to cover in a short amount of time and the pressure is on to get that cupcake photo just right.

It’s a different mindset visiting Disney World for work than it is to visit for a vacation, but even on those work days in the parks, I’m often reminded how magical the place can be. I’ve been witness to many people’s first reactions at seeing Cinderella Castle, plenty of happy hugs when kids meet their favorite character in person, and more Main Street, U.S.A. proposals than I can count! And I’d be lying if I said those moments didn’t put a massively goofy smile on my face every time.

Just being IN the parks and enjoying the atmosphere is often enough to remind me how cool my job is and what a blessing it is to go to Disney World as frequently as I do. Even when I’m just walking from gift shop to gift shop, checking things off my list, I’m quickly reminded that I’m surrounded by thousands of people making the happiest memories of their lives…and that mood is infectious!

We’re not impatient…not really. Okay, maybe we’re lying. We are! We need more details about this year’s EPCOT Food & Wine Festival STAT.
Food and Wine is here!
The EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is kicking off later this year, so we don’t expect to know much more about the festival for a while. Disney did reveal a few things that are returning to this year’s festival. However, we want to know the most important thing: When will we get the full menus for the food booths at the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival?
In order to make the best prediction, what we need to do is look at previous festivals. In 2019, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival ran from August 29th through November 23rd, the same dates as the 2024 festival. The menus were released two months before the festival on June 28th. If things are truly going back to the way things were, we could expect to have menus at or on that same date.
2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival
However, 2020 was a weird year for the festival. Disney World temporarily closed in 2020 due to the ongoing global pandemic. The festival ran from July 15th through November 22nd, and we didn’t have menus until July 9th — right before Disney World reopened.
This was the longest-running EPCOT festival EVER, but Disney was trying to drum up more attendance in the parks during a time when people weren’t traveling much. Note this was a more abbreviated festival, without the seminars and food demonstrations from previous years.
Food & Wine 2020!
In 2021, the festival returned and ran from July 15th through November 20th. We didn’t get menus until July 8th!!! Again, Disney was cutting it short. We got a little more notice for the 2022 festival, which ran from July 14th through November 19th — we got menus a few weeks early on June 29th.

Okay, so let’s look at last year’s festival, in 2023. The dates were from July 27th through November 18th, and once again, we didn’t have menus until about three weeks earlier, on July 3rd.
So what does this mean for this year’s festival? Well, the 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival runs from August 29th through November 23rd. Although we would LOVE to get menus a few months early like in 2019, we think we’ll probably only get those menus several weeks to a month in advance. So we expect Disney to release full menus around August 1st at the earliest. That seems like FOREVER AWAY!

We’re also waiting to see if we get announcements about the return of seminars and demonstrations since those have been gone since 2019. EPCOT will soon have new dedicated spaces for festival activities, including seminars and demonstrations, with the opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, so we certainly think there’s a chance those will return.
Of course, we won’t know anything until Disney makes these announcements, so for now we just have to wait…impatiently.

If you can’t wait to get your SUMMER started a bit early, you need to get to Disney Springs ASAP!
Three words: Dole Whip Marg!
The Swirls on the Water Dole Whip stand at Disney Springs is typically a BIG hit with us when we’re craving something sweet and looking for a way to cool off. We LOVED their last Dole Whip sampler, which was just released earlier this spring, so you can imagine our excitement when we saw they had CHANGED their menu once again. What kind of Disney foodies would we be if we didn’t decide to take one for the team and treat ourselves to a few sweet snacks on a sunny afternoon once again? Here’s how it went!
One of our favorite stops at Disney Springs just got 3 brand NEW menu items to try out and they’re giving all the summer vibes! If you’ve been searching for the best way to beat the heat of the Florida sun while taking in all the shops, eats, and live entertainment around the shopping district, we’ve got the perfect quick stop for you!
Swirls on the Water
Swirls on the Water just changed over their seasonal menu items, and let us be the first to say these new treats are stunning! This restaurant kept a new spin on a classic that we’ve grown to love by switching up the flavors in the Dole Whip Sampler flight, adding a gorgeous Matcha Cone, and wait for it… a Dole Whip Margarita Float! Ok, looks like we’ve got your attention now so let’s dig into each of them!
New menu items!
We’ll start with arguably the most interesting of the 3 treats — the Dole Whip Margarita Float. This treat is a combination of mango and lime swirled Dole whip flavors topped with chili-lime seasoning and diced mango floating in a cup with a lime-flavored margarita and garnished with a lime slice for $17! Unfortunately for us, Swirls on the Water was out of the diced mango on this visit.

Everything about this float WORKS beautifully! It’s a head-turner for sure because of all the bright colors combined to bring this float to life. It’s refreshing and a blast of citrus to your taste buds. It tastes just like you would expect a lime and mango swirl of Dole Whip would, but it’s so much more too.

Once you make your way down to the chilled margarita, you’re in for part two of this treat. The margarita here is definitely lime-flavored, though it isn’t terribly strong. As for the chili-lime seasoning, you’ll find that it adds a low-back-of-the-throat heat to your mouth which is enjoyable but not distracting. But we’re warning you not to slurp this one down too fast because there is a limit of 2 per person due to the alcohol found in the float.
Next up it was time to try out the Matcha Cone, and this one literally oozes summer sweetness! It’s made of strawberry and coconut-swirled Dole whip flavors served in a matcha waffle cone and topped with gooey strawberry sauce and coconut flakes for $5.99.

Oh gosh, if you’re all about some sweet yet fruity flavor, you’ve met your next match! This Dole whip flavor combo between the strawberry and the coconut gives a strawberries and cream taste when swirled together — you know, kind of like those cream-saver candies (which were heavenly)!
She’s a bit melty, though!
The coconut flakes are lightly toasted, giving them a little bit of a crunchier texture. All of these flavors are wrapped up like a present on Christmas when you finally get down to that matcha waffle cone (cue the drool) especially when your dole whip has sat in it for a little while and made it softer than when it was freshly made. Our ONLY complaint for this one is that since the waffle cone is made of matcha we found ours to be on the thin side and we needed to eat FAST! Once that dole whip started melting it went straight through the end of our cone which got sticky fast.
Last but certainly not least, you knew we had to try them all once again with the signature Dole Whip Sampler flight! As we mentioned before this is THE reigning champ here at Swirls on the Water but this version brought together the strawberries and coconut flavors found in the Matcha Cone, the mango and lime flavors found in the Dole Whip Margarita Float, and the classic pineapple and vanilla flavors for your third sampling all for $7.99.

That’s right! You get to try a portioned cup of all three swirled combinations for the price of one treat, pretty neat, huh? So let’s break it down.
I think you already know how we feel about the strawberry and coconut swirl…

… but we CONTINUE to sing the praises of how much we LOVE the pineapple and vanilla swirl!

This combo is definitely the creamier of the three samplings and it’s garnished with a pineapple wedge (which is actually quite large for the cup’s sample size). Sure this is a combination of Dole whip flavors you can find in multiple places across Disney World, but it’s popular for a reason. The creamy vanilla flavor meets the tart pineapple flavor and you’re in for a sugar rush that’s practically an out-of-body experience!
Try the new Matcha Cone
So if it wasn’t already apparent, we’re HUGE fans of Swirls on the Water and their latest creations they’ve added to the menu and we hope to see them stick around for a while. If these sound tasty to you, you’ll want to plan to grab them soon because we can’t guarantee how long they’re set to have them on the menu before they think of something next!

It is time to start buying yourself a new pair of flip-flops!

The weather is getting warmer, and we’re digging out our summer clothes. But let’s be honest, one of the best parts about summer is getting to buy all new outfits. There’s nothing like wearing a new swimsuit, beach hat, skirt, or sandals. Luckily, a popular sandal store in Disney Springs has just reopened, so you can run there now to your new favorite beach shoe!
We were strolling around Disney Springs, Disney World‘s shopping and dining district, the other day when we happened to notice one of our favorite summer stores had reopened from a brief refurbishment!
Havaianas is a cute shop that sells adorable sandals! The shop closed in the middle of April for a brief update, and it has now reopened.

The store did not move, so you can still find it at The Landing in Disney Springs. However, the inside looked refreshed and full of cute options!

There are walls FULL of flip-flops for your choosing!

They even have some fun new charms that you can attach to your shoe. We were shown a few different options that are available in-store.

Goodbye Croc charms, we’ll be decorating our Havaianas sandals with these Mickey charms!

We don’t necessarily recommend wearing flip-flops in the parks since you do A LOT of walking (unless that’s what you prefer), but sandals like these make great pool, beach, and outing shoes! This is a fun store that reopened at the perfect time.

Staying in a Disney World hotel can feel a little strange (you are away from home, after all), but there are things you can do to make yourself feel more at home.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Hotel Room
Maybe you bring your own pillow, or a stuffed animal from home (no judgment here). However, we’re the first to admit that there are a few things we do in Disney World hotel rooms that may seem a liiiiiittle strange, but they work, we promise!
Bringing Toilet Paper From Home
This one isn’t THAT strange, but to some (especially those flying to Disney World), this may seem totally out of the ordinary. Let’s be honest though — that Disney World toilet paper isn’t even close to being okay.

It does the job, yes, but if you’re someone with sensitive skin or you just know what you like, there’s nothing wrong with bringing your own toilet paper to use in the hotel room! If it means you’ll be more comfortable, go for it!
Analyze All The Hotel Bathrooms
Speaking of hotel bathrooms, if you’ve got little ones, or someone with mobility issues, you may be analyzing photos of every single Disney World hotel bathroom before you book.

Not every Disney World hotel has a shower/tub combo, some are only a shower, which can be a problem for small kids who aren’t used to showers (Disney World is NOT the place to get them used to them, trust us), or for those who need to sit in a tub instead. We have room tours of different hotels up on our website, and you can also check Disney World’s website at any time for the most up-to-date photos and information!
Send A Bus Scout
One of the things you unfortunately can’t do from your My Disney Experience app is see what buses are on their way to your hotel. This means your whole group could get ready to just stand at a bus stop for 20 minutes waiting for the next one, which is frustrating.

The solution? Send a bus scout! This is one member of your group who heads to the bus station before the others and can see when the next bus is on the way. They’ll send a text back to the rest of the group letting them know when to be there (tell them about 5 minutes before the current listed time, just to be safe), and that way the whole group isn’t waiting unnecessarily!
Use Hey, Disney!
Hey, Disney! is a bit of a controversial newer feature in Disney World hotel rooms. This is a virtual assistant, similar to an Alexa, that will answer questions about Disney World, play Disney music and soundscapes, tell Disney bedtime stories, and so much more!
“Hey Disney!”
This can be a SUPER helpful tool if you’re rushing around your hotel room — just shout out “Hey, Disney!” and ask when the parks open/close, when the fireworks show is that night, or how to get from one place to another. Or, if you’re struggling to unwind after a wild park day, turn on some soundscape to relax.
Bringing A Trash Bag NOT For Trash
Who wants to do laundry on vacation? Not us! But you also don’t want your smelly clothes stinking up your clean ones, or your room. This is why we suggest bringing an extra trash bag!

Have everyone put their dirty clothes in the trash bag (or everyone can have their own, if you prefer) and keep them closed otherwise to keep it all contained. Then, at the end of your trip you can either do laundry at the hotel and pack all clean clothes again, or just pack all the dirty ones and wash them when you get home!
Tying a Balloon Somewhere in The Room
Now this one sounds REALLY strange, but we promise there’s a good reason! If you’re visiting Disney World in the summer, it’s likely you want your hotel room to stay really cool to be refreshing when you return.

However, some Disney World hotel rooms have an AC system that stops when it doesn’t detect movement, so power isn’t being used to keep the room cool when no one is inside. If you don’t want it to turn off, you can buy a balloon from the Disney parks and tie it somewhere in the room! This way, when the balloon moves around, it’ll trigger the AC system and keep things cool!

After a year-long hiatus, a popular Disneyland offering is about to return!
Fantasmic! in Disneyland
In April 2023, tragedy struck Disneyland Park when the Fantasmic! dragon went up in flames, causing the nighttime spectacular to be shelved for over a year. After a long wait, Fantasmic! is finally returning on May 24th, 2024 and it appears its dining packages are coming back in full force, as well!
Starting today, May 7th, 2024, reservations for Fantasmic!’s dining packages are AVAILABLE!

The first announced package includes reservations for Blue Bayou Restaurant in New Orleans Square for a multi-course dining experience in addition to reserved seating for a viewing of Fantasmic! when it returns.
Reservations can be booked on the Disneyland website.

In the past, Fantasmic! had dining packages for both Blue Bayou and River Belle Terrace. Disney will continue to roll out Fantasmic! dining package information that could include more restaurants as we get closer to that May 24th return date, so make sure to check back here at DFB for the latest updates!

Starbucks has a NEW summer drink on the menu for a limited time, and it seriously took us back to one of our favorite childhood memories.

Come with us to try out the NEW Summer-Berry Starbucks Refresher and find out why this is going to be our go-to drink for as long as it’s available.
Starbucks announced the new Summer-Berry Starbucks Refreshers, so we immediately went to Main Street Bakery (the Starbucks location in Magic Kingdom) to pick one up!
Summer Berry Refresher
The drink has a mix of berry flavors (specifically, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries), and it has raspberry-flavored pearls added in as well. Note that the pearls aren’t boba — they’re the little popping pearls that you sometimes find at frozen yogurt shops.
You can get a refresher with a base of water, lemonade, or coconut milk. The one that’s made with coconut milk is called the Summer Skies drink. We grabbed a grande water-based drink, and it was $6.99.

We LOVED this drink. It’s exactly what it claims to be: refreshing! We really enjoyed it with the water base and thought it might not be quite as good with the lemonade base, as that would add more tartness and sweetness when the berry syrup and pearls are already bringing plenty of those flavors. However, if you’re looking for a really flavor-blasted drink, you might love the lemonade version!

When we first took a sip, we knew it reminded us of something nostalgic, but it took a couple more sips for it to sink in. This tastes very similar to Berry Kool-Aid! And we mean that as the highest compliment possible. It’s a grown-up version (not quite as sickly sweet), and we felt like we were kids again, sipping Kool-Aid in front of Cinderella Castle.
Our reporter said, “It is giving ‘My budget has grown up, but my soul has not.'”
New refresher
UPDATE: Another DFB team member tried out this drink and said it reminded her of the blue Jolly Rancher, so that means it’s doing double duty with the nostalgia.
We can’t wait to try it with coconut milk, too! It seems like the creaminess will upgrade the flavor even more.
Make sure to head to Starbucks to grab this new refresher soon! Their announcement said that these drinks will only be available for a limited time (starting May 7th), but they didn’t specify how long exactly they’ll be on the menu. These are available in U.S. stores. If you’re in Disney World, you can pick one up at any of the Starbucks locations at the resort:

- Creature Comforts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Trolley Car Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Connections Café at EPCOT
- Starbucks at Disney Springs West Side
- Starbucks at Disney Springs Marketplace
Don’t forget about the other drinks and treats in Starbucks’ summer line-up, including the White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew, the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino, the Orange Cream Cake Pop, and the Pineapple Cloud Cake.

Disney CEO Bob Iger returned to his job in 2022 and has since been busy working on several key priorities he has for the company before he departs again in 2026.

Although his job includes working with everything going on with the theme parks and Disney movies, he stated then that his number one priority was making Disney’s streaming profitable. On May 7th, the Walt Disney Company held its second quarter 2024 financial earnings call and we learned more about how streaming is working out for the company.
During Disney’s Q1 2024 earnings call, the company still seemed on track to reach profitability with streaming by the fourth quarter of 2024.
First, we can take a look at the growth in subscribers overall. Compared to the end of 2023, paid Disney+ subscribers in the United States and Canada have increased to 54 million, resulting in a 17 percent growth between December and March. Internationally, Disney+ and Hotstar subscriptions decreased to 63.6 million from 65.2 million — resulting in a 2 percent drop. Disney+ Core subscribers increased by more than 6 million in the second quarter, and Disney+ Core ARPU increased sequentially by 44 cents.

Now, let’s see what Disney’s average monthly revenue per paid subscriber looks like. This number decreased by 2 percent domestically. Internationally, on the other hand, average monthly revenue increased by 13 percent. International monthly revenue (excluding that from Hotstar) increased from $5.91 to $6.66 due to “increases in retail pricing and a lower mix of subscribers to promotional offerings.”

On the Hulu side, in Q1 2024, Hulu subscribers were up 1.2 million from the previous quarter. Now, Hulu subscribers have increased by a total of one percent if looking at both live television and streaming. Subscribers for both now sit at 50.2 million.

Disney also said, “Sports operating income declined slightly versus the prior year, reflecting the timing impact of College Football Playoff games at ESPN, offset by improved results at Star India.” Making ESPN the preeminent sports streaming service is one of Bob Iger’s most ambitious goals, so it’ll be interesting to see if these numbers turn themselves around during the second half of the year.

FANTASY SPRINGS is finally here in Tokyo DisneySea, and we’re here for a preview!

Fantasy Springs opens on June 6th, and we’re lucky enough to be in Tokyo right now checking it all out. We’ll be eating in Arendelle (and bringing you our FULL REVIEW) later this week! Disney has released some brand new photos of the area, so let’s check them out!
Fantasy Springs is Tokyo DisneySea’s newest port, and it includes lands themed to Peter Pan, Tangled, and, of course, the 2013 Disney film Frozen. Let’s head over to a Royal Banquet in Queen Elsa’s kingdom right now!

Stepping inside, you’ll see the lavish surroundings you would expect at a royal banquet. It’s like we were invited by Anna and Elsa themselves!

This place is PALATIAL. We can’t get over the detail in the floors, the matching motif on the wood columns and chair backs, and THOSE SOARING CEILINGS! A second dining room has a cozier feel, with the stone fireplace, and a china hutch in the corner. No doubt there are generations of family heirlooms in this room.

And there’s a third area that transports you to the castle’s portrait gallery from the movie.

Again with the inlaid floors, sconces, and other regal details that are blowing me away!

Guys, we’re gonna be pressed for time seeing everything in Fantasy Springs, but we might have to eat here three times because I want to sit in ALL of these rooms!
Yeah, if you’re thinking this restaurant is huge — it is. Royal Banquet of Arendelle seats 570 guests. Now this is a quick-service (fast food) restaurant (which is just CRAZY to think about grabbing your food at the counter in these regal surroundings, right?!). We’ll be getting to try the food here (and of course bringing you ALL the details later this week).
We’re most excited to see what’s served in Arendelle’s Royal Set. This meal has appetizers, and entree, and a dessert served in a basket.

Is that some sort of a pot pie?! And what has Olaf cooked up for dessert?! We do know you’ll be able to use Mobile Order at this restaurant.

Tokyo DisneySea’s highly anticipated new land Fantasy Springs is a dream come true for fans of Tangled, Frozen, and Peter Pan Fans! Officially set to open on June 6th, there are new restaurants, new rides, new shops…and it’s all got the same attention to detail that Tokyo DisneySea is known for around the world! Truly EPIC.
Now, Disney has been very tight-lipped about one of the land’s new restaurants. You’ll find it in Peter Pan’s Never Land, and it’s a tribute to your favorite band of ruffians and mine — The Lost Boys! Welcome to Lookout Cookout!

But don’t worry — even though it’s hard to look away, we’re gonna really try! How about this instead?

OK, that’s a little better, right? The Lost Boys cookin’ up some stew for you and me? Love it!
Now, when we check out the actual dining space, you’re going to see a serious island vibe! This feels very Swiss Family Robinson, right? With the teapots hanging from the ceiling? But what’s not very Swiss Family Robinson is that proudly displayed Jolly Roger! There be PIRATES in these parts!

Everything seems haphazard in here — in the way you’d expect a crew like the Lost Boys to collect, curate, and coagulate (ooh…kinda proud of that word series, not gonna lie) a bunch of found objects from the beach into a viable shelter! But I absolutely love the helter skelterness of the lines. Nothing is perpendicular or parallel here — it’s all just thrown together! And check out that rad totem pole!

This is pretty much everything I dreamed it would be! And while we’re not riding until a little later this week, Disney released a bunch of photos that we couldn’t help sharing!
The newest attraction is based on Tangled, Disney’s 2010 telling of the story of Rapunzel; and Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival is based on one of the film’s most iconic sequences. Let’s head inside!

In Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, we’ll climb into a gondola that seats about 16 guests (whom we get to share our romantic adventure with LOL)! We’ll find Rapunzel in her tower at first, singing “When Will My Life Begin.”

Helloooo from Tokyo DisneySea and its absolutely incredible new land, Fantasy Springs! We’ve been invited by Disney to preview the land, and we’re about to go inside for the FIRST TIME. So stay tuned for a whole bunch of LIVE experiences eating, riding, and exploring the Peter Pan, Tangled, and Frozen themed areas of the land!

But first, we have to share THESE! Disney released a bunch of media photos of the new land, including inside the restaurants and rides. And of course, we have to show you inside the real live Snuggly Duckling Restaurant in the Rapunzel’s Forest area of the park!

Now, if going inside an honest-to-goodness real life version of one of the restaurants we’ve been begging Disney to create for years isn’t enough, let me assure you…it does NOT disappoint!
This restaurant is based on Tangled, Disney’s 2010 telling of the story of Rapunzel. It’s a rustic counter-service restaurant that makes you feel like you stepped right into the film. (Do you have your frying pan?!)

There seems to be plenty of room in here — enough for 620 guests according to Disney. And one of the focal points is the Rapunzel and Maximus mural!

Wood and flagstone flooring (are those flagstones?! someone correct me if they’re not…) is punctuated with massive, thick wooden columns which are topped in turn with a wooden beam ceiling. We are definitely in the forest here, my friends!

Another focal point is, of course, the STAGE. Because we ALL HAVE OUR DREAMS here at the Snuggly Duckling! The stage is held up with ale barrels and holds a rustic-looking, but still “grand” piano! The whole thing is very makeshift and depicts the scene from the movie perfectly.
The details are impeccable, though. Check out this puppet show featuring Pascal and Maximus!

Around the beams and lanterns, you can see Rapunzel’s stamp on the place, too, of course. Look at the whimsical paintings she’s done! They kind of look like strands of her hair!

The last focal point mural showcases all of our friends, including Flynn Rider, Rapunzel, Ulf, and more!

A new chapter of a story told a long, long time ago is finally getting ready to emerge from the deep, dark sea.
Ursula
Yes, we’re talking about Ursula, but not in The Little Mermaid movie. We’re talking about Disney’s new trading card game, Lorcana! A new chapter is set to debut soon and Ursula is the star of the tale. Let’s take a peek at what you can expect soon!
What is Lorcana?
Since August 2023, Disney and Ravensburger have released three collections of this trading card game — The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, and a Disney100 collection. Then, in March, a new set was released, Into the Inklands. Now, an all-new chapter will be debuting — Ursula’s Return! The game combines the thrill of strategy with the whimsy of Disney storytelling.

The story goes that players are “Illumineers” who have landed in a new realm, Lorcana. You must go on quests to search and find the “lore” that was spread out during Rise of the Floodborn when a flood of mixed ink was accidentally unleashed. Your goal in the game is to collect 20 lore (points) before the other players. Your quest to gain lore and challenge your opponents to slow them down.

Put simply, the game is a race to get 20 points by using the actions that are on each card. You can challenge your opponent and eliminate (banish) their cards that are in play to limit their opportunities to gain points. It’s a game of strategy with a bit of luck of the draw.
Ursula’s Return
Ursula is returning from the murky depths of her sea cave in the new chapter Ursula’s Return! An Ursula glimmer is ready to put plans into motion after being unleashed from the Great Illuminary. We’ll find out just what she’s willing to do for power when the new set releases in May.

The new cards will be for sale in hobby stores starting May 17th and everywhere else on May 31st. But don’t worry, we got a sneak peek at these new cards and just had to show you!
Two new starter sets, along with other items, will be available to purchase so you can build your deck.

A new Amber and Amethyst deck will feature the Madrigal family and more!

While the Sapphire and Steel set has a mix of powerful characters such as Anna and Hercules!

Two new foil cards will come with each starter set. Anna and Hercules are in the Sapphire and Steel set.

And Bruno and Mirabel foil cards are in the Amber and Amethyst set. (Yes, we’re talking about Bruno!)

Location cards were a new feature in Into the Inklands, and they have been continued in Ursula’s Revenge. We didn’t have particularly strong feelings one way or the other about location cards, and that remains true.
In the Sapphire and Steel set, you can visit the land of the gods — Thebes.

But in the Amber and Amethyst set, you can visit Casa Madrigal!

The difference is this set and the others is that you now have new actions, songs, locations, and characters to use in the game! Otherwise, the game is played the same with the same goal — race your opponent. It’s still a lot of fun with only two players or with a whole group. Plus, now you can plus up your deck even more!

Game Play
To play the game, you need your own deck of 60 cards. You can use one of the starter decks or mix-and-match cards from any of the different chapters. If you’re going for strategy, you can design a stacked deck of masterful items, characters, locations, actions, and songs. You do not need The First Chapter or Rise of the Floodborn to play the game; the new Ursula Returns cards can work independently. You can also get booster packs that gives you an additional 12 cards to help you customize your deck! New Ursula Returns booster packs will be available.

10 Steps for Playing Lorcana
Setting Up
- Determine the first player by flipping a coin, rolling a die, or so on.
- Shuffle your deck. You can only have 60 cards in your deck.
- Set your lore tracker to 0.
- Draw 7 cards for your starting hand. You can look at the cards in your hand, but not anyone else’s hand!
- Alter your starting hand if you choose.
Beginning Phase of a Turn
- Ready — Ready your exerted cards by turning them upright. (Exerted cards were used the previous turn which means they end up sideways.)
- Set — Check for effects that happen at the start of your turn and follow their instructions.
- Draw — Draw a card from the top of your deck. The first player skips this step on their first turn.
Main Phase of a Turn
- Once per turn, you can put a card facedown into your inkwell at any time. (Your inkwell is basically like your bank and ink is the currency.)
- You can take any actions listed below, any number of times, in any order you want. This allows you to take full advantage of what your cards do in combination with other effects.
- Play a card. You must pay a certain amount of ink for your character to be played, but you have to wait for the “ink to dry” (your next turn) before you can use their abilities (unless the card specifies differently.)
- Use a character ability that doesn’t require them to exert. (Exert means turn sideways and be in position to be attacked by opponents.)
- Use an item ability.
- Use a location ability.
- Quest
- Challenge an opponent’s location or exerted character.
- Use an ability that requires them to exert.
There are detailed instructions for these steps in the quick start rules book that you get with a starter deck.

Overall, I love this game! I will continue to play it so I can enjoy the new plots and lore. I hope you all can enjoy this game as much as I do!

What’s a Disney World trip without something completely unexpected happening?

Unfortunately, we’re used to rides closing at Disney World — refurbishments or otherwise. However, it’s not every day we get footage from inside a broken-down attraction — and that’s just what we have for you today!
A reader sent us footage while evacuating Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Monday, May 6th, 2024 and we have to say — they might’ve lived our not-so-secret dream!

It appears something can stop us, after all! Our reader was stopped in the Daisy dance scene and was escorted out of the attraction by Disney World Cast Members.

An unfortunate reality is that Disney World rides can and will break down from time to time. Fortunately, there are some upsides! Cast Members will usually reimburse you with a free Lightning Lane pass that is eligible on most rides and you can catch a glimpse of some of the ride behind-the-scenes, especially when the lights are turned on!

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has targeted a new industry.

You might be familiar with DeSantis and his policies through his appointed board that oversees Disney World and the surrounding areas: the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board. Now, though, DeSantis is targeting a new industry outside of the theme parks: food.
DeSantis said in a press release that the law represented Florida “… fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals… Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef.”

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson echoed DeSantis, saying in the same press release that “Florida is taking a tremendous step in the right direction by signing first-in-the-nation legislation banning lab-grown meat. We must protect our incredible farmers and the integrity of American agriculture. Lab-grown meat is a disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity, and is in direct opposition to authentic agriculture.”
Good Meat – who, according to their website, are “the first company in the world to sell cultivated meat” – spoke about their disappointment with the legislation on their X account.

They wrote in part, “In a state that purportedly prides itself on being a land of freedom and individual liberty, its government is now telling consumers what meat they can or cannot purchase.” The company went on “The law is a setback for everyone: Floridians who deserve the right to eat whatever safe and approved meat they want; Florida’s technology sector, innovators and entrepreneurs; and all those working to stop the worst impacts of climate change.”

Disney World is rife with little snack stands, but not all of them are created equal!
Magic Kingdom
Some of the snack stands have hidden gems and our favorite treats (like Eight Spoon Cafe or Cheshire Cafe), while others are probably okay to completely skip. Recently, I stopped by one of these stands in Magic Kingdom to review its whole menu — let’s go to Westward Ho Refreshments!
Atmosphere
Westward Ho is a snack stand in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, located directly across the pathway from Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe. This small little spot usually doesn’t have much of a line, but it also doesn’t have any seating or tables.
Let’s go to Westward Ho!
They serve both breakfast and lunch/dinner/snack offerings here. I stopped by in the afternoon, so let’s check out the menu!

For lunch and dinner, there are only a few items on the menu at Westward Ho. You can get the Candied Bacon Skewer, the Corn Dog Nuggets, or the Jalapeño Poppers.

They offer several beverages, including Joffrey’s coffee and slushes.
Eats
Since there are so few menu items, I decided to order ALL the eats!
Full Spread
Starting out with the Candied Bacon Skewer, you can snag this meat-on-a-stick for $9.99, and it comes brown sugar-coated and served with chips on the side. This is probably the snack that Westward Ho is most known for.

The bacon was pretty fatty on the ends, which diminished the amount of meat on the skewer a little bit. However, my main issue is that it was INCREDIBLY sticky, making it somewhat challenging to eat.
That’s some thick bacon!
However, it was pretty yummy flavor-wise — very meaty with a bit of sweetness. I was expecting to be disappointed because it’s a fairly controversial snack, but I surprisingly enjoyed it! The major downside here is the price. It’s fairly expensive for a small portion, even with the chips.
This one is a bit controversial — some people love it and some hate it.
Next up was a meal you might not have known you can get at Westward Ho — Corn Dog Nuggets! These are the same as the ones you get at Casey’s Corner except they come with Lay’s chips on the side instead of french fries. Get the meal for $10.79.

These nuggets are pretty much the exact same as the Casey’s ones! The breading has a little bit of crispiness on the outside, but it’s soft and a little sweet inside. The hot dog portion is fairly basic and tastes like a normal hot dog.
Delicious and golden
My favorite hack with these is to go across the walkway to Pecos Bill and get the queso for $1 to dip them in — even better than getting the plastic cheese from Casey’s Corner! In general, I prefer ordering these nuggets at Westward Ho because of the nearby queso, and the fact that I can throw the chips in my bag for a snack later.

The final food item on the menu here is the Jalapeño Poppers! They are breaded jalapeño poppers stuffed with nacho cheese and served with ranch on the side for $6.29.
Jalapeño Poppers
I was hoping for chunks of jalapeño inside these, but it’s really just fried chunks of jalapeño cheddar cheese, which was a little disappointing. These are definitely spicier than most “spicy” Disney foods, but not unbearable by any means. The ranch cools it off and brightens the flavor, but they feel empty on the inside and not substantial. I would’ve loved more flavor depth besides just spice and cheese, and I probably wouldn’t get these again.

And of course, I needed something to wash it all down! For my drink, I ordered the Minute Maid Premium Lemonade Frozen Slushy for $5.99.
Round it out with the lemonade!
This had a strong lemon flavor and was very refreshing. It melts quickly so you’ll need to drink fast, because it gets kind of syrupy once it melts. It’s not a wildly original beverage, but I would recommend it for lemonade fans.

So how did Westward Ho fare overall?
Overall
Of everything I had at Westward Ho, the only must-get for me would be the Corn Dog Nuggets. It’s much easier to get them here than at Casey’s Corner and I love the Pecos Bill queso hack! The lemonade might also be nice on a hot summer day.

But I was a little disappointed in the poppers, and the bacon was just a smidge too pricey for me to keep going back to try. I would love if they branched out with more snacks here in the future!
Nosh or Not?
Mosey on out west and stop for a bite if…
- You’re intrigued by the novelty of these snacks. This is the only place in the parks where you can get bacon on a stick or jalapeño poppers, so if you LOVE those treats, you’ll have to try them here!
- You want corn dog nuggets without the chaos of Casey’s Corner. I often order corn dog nuggets here if I don’t want to deal with Casey’s Corner or I don’t have the appetite to eat fries on the side — I can just through the bag of chips in my backpack for snacking later.
- You’re just in the mood for a beverage! They’ve got quite the selection of drinks here and the line isn’t usually too long.
Keep on shuffling and explore the wild west if…
- You want a substantial meal. Outside of the corn dog nuggets, none of these items really offer a substantial meal.
- You want to sit down and eat. Unless you plan on taking your food over to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe to sit down, you won’t find any tables here.
- You want a truly spectacular feast. Most of the items on the menu here are fairly middle-of-the-road. This isn’t exactly the place we’d recommend to knock your socks off.

A well-known Disney World restaurant’s menu is changing.
The BOATHOUSE
Over the last decade, The Boathouse has become one of Disney Springs’ best known restaurants, a favorite among locals and tourist visitors alike. However, a recent reader email tipped us off to a big change to the restaurant’s menu.
As of last May, the restaurant offered an entry serving of two filet mignon sliders and a side of fries for $16.50. The meal served as one of the better values on property. However, a reader brought to our attention that that had changed.
The earlier menu, with the 2 sliders and fries meal option listed under sandwiches.
According to their email – and a corresponding photo of the current menu – they sent us, “The filet sliders are now on the launch menu as an appetizer option. It comes with 3 sliders for $22. When I asked about it as a meal with the fries, I was recommend to order a side a fries ($10) to make it like the meal was before. I enjoyed this meal before as 2 sliders and a side of fries was a great portion and for less than $20 I believe.”

We checked with the Boathouse, and the restaurant confirmed that the sliders have been moved to the appetizer menu, with the side of fries replaced by a third steak slider.

While it’s sad to see one of the best value meals on Disney property slip away, a third slider at least makes the dish more suitable as a shareable appetizer. Stay tuned to DFB fort more Disney World menu updates.

Disney World is no stranger to icons — Mickey Mouse. Cinderella Castle. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Plastic cheese. Yes, the TRUE star of Disney World — plastic cheese. It motivates us to fly thousands of miles each year or hop in our cars each day to visit Disney World. But did you know you can actually get MORE of it?!
If you’ve ever gotten plastic cheese at Disney World and thought to yourself, “Life is good, but it could be better,” we’ve discovered what “better” truly is. Did you know that over at Backlot Express in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can get cups of plastic cheese that are nearly twice the size of the cheese at other restaurants?
This was a BIG cup, y’all.
Backlot Express serves its cheese in white paper cups, and it dwarfs what you can get inside the other Disney Parks, even the hub of plastic cheese, Magic Kingdom.

This quick-service restaurant is known as “A Warehouse of Good Eating” and is themed as a production warehouse packed with props and other details. It has classic offerings like burgers, fries, sandwiches, and salads, but, occasionally, you will also find a Star Wars-themed treat or two.
