‘Show Your Disney Side Week’ on ‘Wheel of Fortune’
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
A few weeks ago, I dropped a not-so-subtle hint here on the Disney Parks Blog that there might be more Disney fun coming on “Wheel of Fortune†this season. Well, the wait is over: “Show Your Disney Side†Week starts tonight on “Wheel of Fortune!†For this special week of shows, we wanted to bring our Disney Side to their Studio. So, we brought them a truckload of pixie dust – and, I literally mean a truckload – to help deliver the magic! Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy are there to share in all the excitement, as well. They had a terrific time with Pat Sajak and Vanna White, as well as meeting the Studio audience. (But … here’s the honest truth. It was part of my job to keep an eye on those guys, and when I wasn’t looking, a few “unplanned events†MAY have occurred. Which MAY have been captured on camera. And you MAY see in the shows. Ooops.) Here’s another first for Disney and “Wheelâ€: an entire episode dedicated to our Happily Ever After Side. More about that from my friend Michelle Smits at Disney’s Fairytale Weddings and Honeymoons on the Ever After Blog later in the week – but make sure you don’t miss Thursday night’s show! Because I know you love it when we can “lift the curtain†and give you a behind-the-scenes look at productions, we’re thrilled to offer up an all access pass! Check out this fantastic video for a look at how we moved attraction vehicles from Disneyland Resort, up the Santa Ana Freeway, to Culver City – I wish you could have seen the look on motorist’s faces as Dumbo went “flying†by! You’ll see the Characters “working†here, too. And … you’ll even get to discover what Pat and Vanna’s Disney Side is! The shows feature fantastic vacation prizes to both the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland Resort – a pretty good reminder that it’s time for you to be thinking about planning your next vacation to show your Disney Side, right? And there’s even a chance for you to win a magical Grand Adventure to enjoy with your entire family at the Walt Disney World Resort, just for watching. (Details on that are here.) Tune in all week starting tonight! Check your local listings for details. And … buy a vowel! ‘Show Your Disney Side Week’ on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ by Tony Shepherd: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article -

Last week, I shared with you some of our brand-new Port Adventures coming to Juneau during this summer’s Alaska sailings. Today, I’m excited to tell you about ways your family can experience Skagway’s great outdoors with Port Adventures new for this summer. Nature-lovers will find breathtaking views at every turn on the Skagway Adventure Hike, trekking through the alpine forest and snow-capped mountains of White Pass. In the Alpine Lake Canoe Adventure on Summit Lake, panoramic views of Alaska’s most enchanting scenery include towering mountains, lush green forests and crystal-clear water. Cooked up exclusively for Disney cruisers is the mouthwatering Klondike Campfire Breakfast at Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp. This is a great way to start your day. Who wouldn’t want to kick off their fun with a meal of steak, eggs and sourdough blueberry pancakes? After savoring breakfast, you’ll pan for gold, with everyone guaranteed to find the precious metal in every pan. If your family is more on the competitive side, you’re going to love Skagway’s new Klondike Family Challenge, where you’ll pan for gold, interact with dogs training for sled dog races and tour a brewery, among other experiences. Each part of this Port Adventure includes some friendly competition with other families, like seeing who can pan the most gold or who can pan the fastest. No matter who wins, at the end of the day each family gets to leave their mark by etching their names onto a wooden plank to be hung on the wall at the Klondike Gold Fields. These new experiences join a spectacular collection of Port Adventures for Alaska, from exploring glaciers and whale watching to a high-energy lumberjack show and exciting crab fishing tour. What’s on your family’s can’t-miss list? Soak in the Great Outdoors of Skagway with Disney Cruise Line by Arnaldo Zanonato: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

Continuing our look back at the amazing innovations that Disneyland has seen throughout its sixty years, we jump forward now to the 1960s and the invention of Audio-Animatronics technology. Inspired by an antique mechanical singing bird, Walt Disney was driven to bring what he saw as three-dimensional animation to Disneyland. He enlisted the help of Imagineer and Disney Legend Wathel Rogers to take the bird apart and see how it – quite literally – ticked. On June 23, 1963, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room opened at Disneyland. The first attraction to feature Audio-Animatronics technology was home to more than 200 singing birds, flowers and tikis. The following year, the first human Audio-Animatronics figure debuted at the New York World’s Fair in the state of Illinois’ “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,†which opened to great acclaim and later moved to Disneyland. In the years since, Audio-Animatronics technology has continued to develop at Disney Parks around the world. Many classics, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, continue to see new and even more impressive figures added as the technology continues to advance. What started as a curiosity for Walt all those years ago has grown into a Disney Parks legacy – storytelling technology that set a new standard and brought us all a little closer to the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.
