We know what you’re thinking after reading that title. Magic Kingdom Christmas Tree Does it EVER get cooler at Disney World?! Well, there are several days throughout November through February that it can get pretty chilly out — especially in the mornings and after the sun sets. When this happens, you’ll see a few things around the parks start to change just a little bit. Let’s talk about it! There are four things that you can expect to happen as soon as those temperatures drop. Characters and Cast Members get warmer clothes! Yes, in the winter, you’ll see characters and Cast Members with slightly different looks! We saw the Step Sisters walking around Magic Kingdom in their warm and cozy long sleeves. Anastasia and Drizzella Iconic Cast Member costumes throughout the parks will be complemented in the winter with the addition of coats! One of our favorite wintertime looks is for the Haunted Mansion maids. They’ll wear either a short overcoat with lace trim that looks like something out of an American Girl Doll catalogue, or they’ll wear a long cloak that looks perfectly Harry Potter-esque. It’s so fun! There’s an emphasis on hot beverages! Throughout the hot months, you’ll see water stands to stay cool and help you stay hydrated. In the winter, however, the emphasis is put on staying warm. You can find lots of hot chocolate options! Hot chocolate is sometimes offered at quick service locations as an extra lil offering to stay warm and cozy! Keep an eye out for signs advertising hot cocoa at places that don’t usually serve it! The camels stop spitting! The camels! You know the ones. On and nearby the Magic Carpets of Aladdin ride, you’ll typically find spitting camels that will leave unlucky riders with a wet head. The pesky camels stop spitting! In the winter, these camels stop their spitting. Much appreciated from most of us! You’ll find stands selling hats and gloves. In the summer, you’ll find cooling towels and fans that are for sale at stands around the parks. Hats and gloves for sale! In the winter, you’ll find hats and gloves instead! Oh, and sometimes, merchandise locations will put out extra racks of sweatshirts and hoodies because they anticipate that folks might be chilly. And there you have it! While these super chilly days are rare throughout the year, they definitely DO happen throughout the typical winter months. Make sure you prepare for these occurrences and dress in layers, because although it might be super chilly with the sun down or not quite up yet, it can get up to the high 70s at midday. We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news and tips, so follow along for more! Looking for more ways the parks change in the winter? Click here! We visited the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays on opening day and tried nearly every. single. food item at the holiday kitchens. 2023 EPCOT Festival of the Holidays We wandered around EPCOT trying all the new and returning menu items at all the booths. There were some AMAZING new desserts, some awesome returning meals, and unfortunately, some not-so-great items. Out of everything we ate at the festival (which was a lot), there were 15 things we would not recommend buying this year. Before we get to the list, you can watch our video of all of the fun at the festival right here! Meals Tamale With Plant-based Chorizo At the Nochebuena Cocina, we had the Tamale with Plant-based Chorizo for $5.50. We were a bit disappointed with it as we were hoping for much more chorizo. The flavors of the sauce dominated the dish, and overall, it just wasn’t well-balaned. Tamale with chorizo, plant-based cotija cheese, and spicy red chile sauce If you’re a tamale fan and would like to have one while you’re at the festival, we would say opt for the Tamale de Barbacoa at Las Posadas instead! We loved this! The breading was so good, and it was filled with meat. There was a great smoky, barbecue flavor that we really enjoyed. If you eat meat, then we highly recommend this tamale! Tamale de Barbacoa Lamb Kefta Kebab At Tangierine Cafe, you can grab the Grilled Kebabs for $6.25. While the chicken kebab was great, the Lamb Kefta one was not our favorite. There was a strange sweetness that we didn’t expect, and it threw us off. When it comes to lamb, we hope for a savory option, but this was not that. Grilled Kebabs with carrot-chickpea salad and garlic aïoli Montanara We tried the new Montanara at Tuscany Holiday Kitchen for $9. Now, we did really like these. The flavors were good and bright. The dough went well with the parmesan and the flavorful sauce. But it made this list because we just thought it was a bit overpriced. You’re paying $9 for some fried dough and sauce. We would recommend these if they were a cheaper. Montanara: Fried house-made pizza dough with Pomodoro sauce, parmesan, and fresh basil Farfalle Salmone Also at the Tuscany Holiday Kitchen is the Farfalle Salmone for $10. This is also new this year but we thought it was a bit disappointing. It was just lacking flavor. You could taste a hint of salmon but it wasn’t as creamy as you would expect. Also, the sauce thickened the longer it sat around, which gave it a weird texture. Farfalle Salmone Affumicato If you’re looking for a better salmon option, head over to Yukon Holiday Kitchen for the Seared Salmon! For $7, you get salmon with butternut squash purée, maple-bourbon glaze, and fennel-arugala salad. It was an honorable mention on our best of the fest list and for good reason. Seared Salmon Desserts Chocolate-covered Toffee Brittle While the Chocolate-covered Toffee Brittle at Holiday Hearth Desserts looks cute and festive, it is not one we recommend. It was incredibly hard, even for toffee. It was thick and difficult to bite into. It’s just not easy to enjoy something when you’re afraid you’ll break your teeth on it. Chocolate-covered Toffee Brittle Instead, we would HIGHLY recommend the Apple Caramel Crumb Cake for $4.75! It is possibly the best dessert we’ve ever had at an EPCOT festival. It’s so good. Apple Caramel Crumb Cake Mouse Crunch The Mouse Crunch made with M&M’s chocolate candies also at Holiday Hearth Desserts is certainly pretty and Instagram-worthy. But we felt for $6.50, we could probably make this at home. There are plenty of other sweet treats we would rather spend our money on. Mouse Crunch made with M&M’s chocolate candies Peppermint Sundae At Holiday Sweets and Treats, we tried the Peppermint Sundae for $6.25. However, this did not seem like much of a sundae. It was more like a chocolate shake with some peppermint bits sprinkled on top. Not that the flavor is bad, it’s just not what is expected when you order a sundae and it was pretty basic. Peppermint Sundae: Chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and peppermint candy Jingle Sugar Cookie Sunshine Seasons has a Jingle Sugar Cookie for $3.99 as part of the cookie stroll. In the past, we’ve really enjoyed this cookie, but this year took us by surprise in a not-so-good way. This cookie was surprisingly hard. Other than the M&M’s that were on top, this is just a simple sugar cookie. Unless you need it for the cookie stroll, we would say grab another cookie instead! One of our top pics for an alternative would be the Black and White Cookie from L’Chaim. Jingle Sugar Cookie made with M&M’s chocolate candies Spiced Chocolate Cookie The Spiced Chocolate Cookie for $3 at Nochebuena Cocina was lacking the spice. We actually thought this cookie was a bit bitter, having a very dark chocolate flavor. We thought there would be more holiday spice flavor, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Spiced Chocolate Cookie Red Velvet Mini Bundt Cake Another one at Holiday Hearth Desserts that we would skip is the Red Velvet Mini Bundt Cake with Cream Cheese Icing. It is $4.75 and is certainly cute, but the flavors are pretty basic. This is another dessert we think we could easily make at home instead of paying for it at the festival. Red Velvet Mini Bundt Cake with Cream Cheese Icing Drinks Frozen Caramel Hot Chocolate If you LOVE caramel then you might like the Frozen Caramel Hot Chocolate with TWIX cookie bar pieces and whipped cream. There is mostly only a caramel flavor here which makes it VERY sweet. We would skip it and get either the Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini or the Le Joyeux de Noel cocktails at La Marche De Noel Holiday Kitchen. Frozen Caramel Hot Chocolate with TWIX cookie bar pieces and whipped cream Butterfly Lantern The Butterfly Lantern drink at Shanghai Holiday Kitchen is $4.50 and, sadly, it tasted like medicine. We did not care for the pear and lychee combination as it gave it a very off-putting flavor. Butterfly Lantern Cinnamon Apple Cider The Cinnamon Apple Cider is $3.75 at Swirled Showcase. It’s not bad, we just found the cinnamon flavor to be a little overpowering of the apple flavor. It’s cold and refreshing, but we would probably opt for the Frozen Apple Pie drink here instead. Cinnamon Apple Cider Gingerbread Milkshake At the Refreshment Port near the Canada pavilion, we had the Gingerbread Milkshake for $4.75. We’ve enjoyed this shake in the past, but for some reason, it came out having that medicine taste as well this year. It was also very messy because as the whipped cream melted it got everywhere. Gingerbread Milk Shake If you’re looking for a shake, we would suggest heading to Connections Eatery for the Coquito Milk Shake instead! Coquito Milk Shake So Many Wishes Again, this drink isn’t necessarily bad. The So Many Wishes drink at Connections Eatery is $6.29 and it is SUPER sweet. This drink tastes like a pomegranate Jolly Rancher. People who love sweet drinks would probably enjoy this, but we had a hard time with all the sugar. So Many Wishes For other drink options, we really liked almost everything we got at Joffrey’s this year! The Horchata Cold Brew made our best of the fest list, and we enjoyed most of the others there. Horchata Cold Brew There are so many new and returning eats and drinks at the Festival of the Holidays! Even though these weren’t our favorites doesn’t mean you wouldn’t enjoy them. And with all the other options available, there’s something for everyone. For more holiday news, keep following DFB! World of Frozen recently opened in Hong Kong Disneyland, but Disney has no plans on stopping there. Arendelle Castle Back in September, Disney announced its plans to increase its investments in parks, entertainment, and experiences for the next 10 years. That means $60 billion in the next decade compared to $30 billion in the previous. But what does this look like for the Disney parks? Disney’s Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro had some thoughts. Disney had previously stated that they plan to continue expanding their theme parks. World of Frozen seems to be just the beginning for the entertainment giant. In an interview with USA Today, D’Amaro assured us that Disney has “no shortage of space or stories” to continue adding expansions across its national and international parks. Arendelle Alongside D’Amaro in the interview were Disney CEO Bob Iger, Frozen’s creator and co-director and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee, and Disney Entertainment Co-chairman Alan Bergman. D’Amaro credited Lee and Bergman with continuing to give the company stories to use for generations to come stating, “Our ambitions here are clear. These two have given us amazing stories. And I plan to tell those stories.” ©Disney via IAAPA Expo 2020 Presentation When discussing the expansion opportunities D’Amaro commented, “At the Disneyland Resort, we’ve talked about the project called DisneylandForward. Essentially, we have enough space there to build a new Disneyland if we’d like. Walt Disney World was always designed to be expanding. You know what we’ve done at EPCOT … Our international parks are doing so well for us, and we have space and ambition to continue to go on that front.” EPCOT Many plans are already underway such as the Zootopia land in Shanghai that opens next month and another Frozen-inspired land being constructed in Paris. But according to D’Amaro, there are lots of ideas that are in the “blue sky” phase of development including the ideas for a new land in Magic Kingdom. D’Amaro added, “Rest assured, we have Imagineers running very quickly in the background.” ©Disney We might not have seen the end of Frozen, either. Lee stated, regarding Frozen, “Expanding in (the) parks makes total sense because I think for generations, young kids and families and adults are going to love the movies, the merchandise, the rides, what they see on Disney+, the music, the stage play.” Bob Iger at World of Frozen We may be waiting for more details about these “blue sky” projects, but in the meantime, Disney has announced many new and upcoming additions to the parks in the U.S. and abroad. We’ll be on the lookout for more details as we continue to get closer to 2024! Until then, keep following DFB for more Disney news! Disney announced that EPCOT’s transformation would be completed in December 2023. EPCOT While Disney World is always changing and updating, EPCOT has seen a MASSIVE overhaul. Walt Disney proclaimed, during the beginning ideas of EPCOT, that it would “always be in a state of becoming.” And this transformation is doing just that, bringing EPCOT into a new state of past, present, and future. But what exactly has all changed since the transformation began? That’s exactly what we’re here to tell you about. New Worlds Let’s start with one of the most important changes that we’ve seen inside EPCOT. If you’re trying to get around, it’s important to know the names of the areas you’re trying to get to. What once was known as World Showcase and simply Future World (or commonly designated by the attractions you find in the area, for example– The Land and The Seas), are now separate “neighborhoods’ named World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. Neighborhoods on a map This change may seem small, but it lays the foundation for all the other changes. Now, you can locate where the next attraction you want to go to is fairly easily by matching it to the neighborhood it belongs in. But this was just one of the many changes we have seen at EPCOT. Entrance EPCOT’s transformation really begins at the park’s entrance. Disney is known for getting all of your senses involved in your experience and the changes to EPCOT have even included new music as you walk into the park. You can also see that the Leave A Legacy monoliths have moved and been given a colorful upgrade. Leave a Legacy Walls in EPCOT If you walk a little further into the park, near Spaceship Earth you’ll find a new water feature. The new fountain, along with the three new acrylic pylons and 12 new flags, bridge the past, present, and future of EPCOT together. The pylons look especially beautiful at night! Spaceship Earth and the new fountain Spaceship Earth Before we step inside any of the world “neighborhoods” too far, let’s talk about how Spaceship Earth has changed. During the 50th Anniversary celebration of Disney World, the four icons from each park became the “Beacons of Magic” at night. When the 50th celebration ended, Spaceship Earth kept the new lighting and now you can capture new shows presented on the big ball. Spaceship Earth during EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays World Celebration At the very beginning of EPCOT, CommuniCore East and CommuniCore West were near the center of the park and served as the park’s “Main Street.” But they were eventually removed to make way for Innovations East and West and Mouse Gear, the central shopping center. However, in 2023, it seems we are bringing back some old-school features in a reimagined way. Mouse Gear Mouse Gear was officially closed in 2019 and has been replaced with Creations Shop. And Innovations East and West are completely gone and instead you’ll find Connections Eatery, Connections Cafe (Starbucks), and Club Cool (which was reimagined and updated as part of the transformation). Connections Cafe & Eatery in EPCOT Yet to come in World Celebration is Dreamer’s Point. This will be a new location with the NEW “Walt the Dreamer” statue and beautiful gardens, a wishing tree, and a story fountain. “Walt the Dreamer” Also still to come, are CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall –throwing back to the old names for the park’s central hub. Disney has said that these will serve as a “home base” for EPCOT’s festivals and live entertainment. We’ve been keeping an eye on the construction as it’s due to be done in about a month or a little more! CommuniCore Hall World Discovery World Discovery has seen a couple of big changes within the transformation (other than its name). Space 220, a new restaurant, was opened in 2021 adding to the Mission Space area. You take a simulated “elevator” into orbit 220 miles above Earth. Space 220 Universe of Energy– Ellen’s Energy Adventure featuring Bill Nye the Science Guy closed permanently to make room for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind which officially opened in 2022. It became EPCOT’s first-ever roller coaster and quickly a fan-favorite ride in Disney World! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind World Nature World Nature recently became home to the brand new attraction Journey of Water– Inspired by Moana. This walk-through attraction takes you on a journey with water as you learn and play. Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana Not only did the attraction featuring Moana open, but Moana herself has come to EPCOT! You can now meet the young way-sailor near the new attraction’s entrance. Moana in EPCOT And over in The Land, you can watch the new film Awesome Planet, which debuted in 2020! Awesome Planet World Showcase Many people will be able to tell you about one big transformation that happened over at the World Showcase. The France pavilion got an entire expansion! Now you can join Remy on his Ratatouille Adventure which opened in 2021. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Along with the new ride, an all-new restaurant came to France– La Crêperie de Paris. You can get counter service or talk service at this crepe shop that features a delicious menu from celebrity chef Jérôme Bocuse. La Crêperie de Paris And finally, the finale, literally and figuratively. Luminous: Symphony of Us is set to debut on December 5th! It is a nighttime spectacular in honor of Disney’s 100th Anniversary. Luminous replaces Harmonious which had previously replaced IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at the start of the transformation. ©Disney There have been a few other changes and additions around EPCOT such as the addition of the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along, also in the France Pavilion, and the new restaurant, Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya, in the Japan Pavilion. And we’re sure in the many years to come, EPCOT will continue to be in the “state of becoming.” We’re looking forward to the completion of this transformation and to enjoying all the new additions to their full extent. Christmastime in Disney World is one of the most popular times to visit! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party There are tons of things to do around the parks during the day — from trying seasonal treats and taking in all of the decor to meeting Santa Claus. If you want to get the most holiday cheer in during your vacation, however, you might want to check out Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. At this special ticketed event, you’ll get to try some exclusive party snacks, meet all kinds of characters in their holiday best, watch party-exclusive entertainment, and more. But, this event is popular, so if you want to take part during your trip, it’s important to plan ahead. We’re in the parks every day, and there is one thing we see time and time again on party days. Day-of tickets are rarely available! These parties sell out! When tickets first go on sale, it might look like there is plenty of availability for the week of your trip, but don’t let that prevent you from booking ahead of time. You can start booking your tickets online well in advance, so we recommend getting them as soon as you know you’ll be going! Even on the slower weeks, it’s uncommon for tickets for a specific night’s party to be on sale that morning, so you shouldn’t count on snagging your tickets when you get to the park that day. Hello from a snow-filled Main Street, U.S.A! If you do happen to miss out on grabbing your tickets ahead of time, though, make sure to talk to a Cast Member about your options. Currently, there are only two dates left for the party listed online — December 12th and December 14th. However, we spoke to a Cast Member at City Hall in Magic Kingdom today who said there are actually four dates available, so you might still be able to find something that works for you. We are in full-swing holiday mode! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge And we are always on the lookout for holiday treats! While visiting a couple of Disney World Resort hotels the other day, we picked up four seasonal items and gave them a try! We stopped by Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and grabbed a few sweet snacks! Overall, all four hit the spot and we think you’d enjoy them. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge The Mara The Mara is where you can find some gingerbread goodies and other holiday treats that go along with their gingerbread display which includes a baby giraffe, Ginger-affe, and a baby zebra, Debra. Animal Kingdom While we stopped by the hotel, we picked up the Gingeraffe cookie and the Mickey Santa Hat Tart! The Gingeraffe cookie is $6.79 and the Mickey Santa Hat Tart is $6.49. The cookie is a sugar cookie (greenery) and gingerbread (giraffe) cookie combo with white chocolate, M&M’s, and a holiday wreath. Gingeraffe cookie It is a soft, chewy, and thick cookie. It’s not a very strong gingerbread flavor with a lesser spice flavor which was nice as it didn’t taste artificial. It is adorable and almost the perfect holiday cookie. We really enjoyed it. A quick word of warning though–they are fragile due to being so soft. Gingeraffe cookie The Mickey Santa Hat Tart is a vanilla tart with pistachio cake, chai mousse, and caramel ganache. As you can guess, it has a lot of flavors competing for the spotlight. Mickey Santa Hat Tart Not one individual flavor stood out more than the others. The tart is hard and crunchy with the cake being pretty crumbly and dry. The mousse had a soft, creamy texture and the caramel ganache was delicious. Each flavor separately was great, but in one large bite, it became a lot. The dessert is also large and easily shareable, so that’s a bonus! Inside the tart Pop-Up Holiday Bar We were a little surprised by a pop-up holiday bar when we arrived at the Animal Kingdom Lodge! It has several options ranging in price. Pop-up Holiday Bar menu We decided to try the Holiday Fruitcake Mule for $18. The mule is Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey, Hella Cocktail Co. Apple Blossom Bitters, Cranberry Juice, and Rosemary topped with Ginger Beer. Holiday Fruitcake Mule First off, if you don’t care for mules or ginger beer in general, you probably wouldn’t care for this drink. It is very festive. Our reporter said she felt like she was at a holiday party sipping a holiday cocktail. The ginger beer is prominent with the whisky coming through slightly. There was a healthy flavor of cranberry and a nice twist with the rosemary! It’s fun getting to find and try all new and returning holiday treats around the parks and hotels. Be sure to stop by all the different locations to try them all! The only true constant about Disney World is that it’s always changing. Frontierland at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom is an absolute Disney World icon. From the towering Cinderella Castle to the futuristic Space Mountain, Magic Kingdom has no shortage of Disney Parks legends. However, out in Frontierland, one notable mountain isn’t showing its usual shine. Splash Mountain officially closed its gates earlier this year and with that, made way for a new attraction — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The new ride is making good use of the old Splash Mountain but has noticeably been under construction all year, giving Frontierland an eyesore or an extra dose of intrigue, depending on how you look at it. As the attraction construction continues to make progress, the aesthetic of Frontierland also continues to shift. Let’s take a look! Construction is moving along Scaffolding along the mountain has been a constant sight this year and is slated to continue into next year. Recently, the one-time Laughing Place was given a fresh coat of paint. As of now, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open in late 2024, so expect this sight in Frontierland for a while longer. More installation The ride, which picks up after the events of The Princess and the Frog (2009), takes riders through a transformed salt mine on the way to a Mardi Gras party, coming across familiar faces along the way. The land around the salt mine has also been transformed as well, with a Tiana’s Foods water tower and new tree installations. Mural at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Frontierland is also getting some more bayou charm in the form of art. The ride queue mural art is meant to represent the creation of Tiana’s Foods, showcasing Tiana’s professional journey while simultaneously including elements of family, friends, music, and camaraderie. Mickey Beignets Additionally, in homage to New Orleans culture, Disney plans to fill the queue with the scent of fresh beignets. While there has been no formal announcement, we’re hoping that more bayou flavor comes to Frontierland in the form of a beignet stand. Model of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at the 2022 D23 Expo Right now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a work in progress that adds some character to Frontierland. When it opens, though, it promises to present a delightful queue full of great music, smells, and art, a fun ride, and some New Orleans charm that will make Frontierland the place to be! It’s been more than three years since Disney World reopened from the pandemic, but some things still haven’t quite gotten back to normal. EPCOT The Voyage of the Little Mermaid show still hasn’t reopened in Hollywood Studios, and many people are hoping to once again dine at 1900 Park Fare sometime in the future. Several gift shops are still closed (including the Stage 1 Company Store in Muppets Courtyard), and the Tinker Bell meet and greet hasn’t returned to Magic Kingdom since March 2020. But while we wait on all those things to come back…you may be happy to know that a shopping spot has reopened in EPCOT! In World Showcase Plaza, the main entry pathway to the World Showcase area of EPCOT, there are several kiosks that have been out of commission since the pandemic. The kiosks have been used for different things in the past, from merchandise to activities to Disney Vacation Club informational stands, but they’ve most recently been under construction. One of the kiosks in question Now, the kiosks are back open for merchandise during the Festival of the Holidays! This is a great way to use this space, and makes it easier for you to check out the merchandise available if you don’t want to head into a gift shop or walk all the way back into World Showcase. You can grab festival merchandise here! Having these shopping options open in the middle of the park reminds us that the rest of the EPCOT transformation is set to be completed very soon! In December, Disney plans to reopen the middle of the park — the area that has been blocked by construction walls for several years. Inside the kiosks We’re excited to see progress in this park that has been under construction for several years now, and we can’t wait to see what comes next! How Hotels Are CHANGING in Disney World in 2024!
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
We could stay an entire week at Disney World and only visit the resorts! But alas with the new year comes new updates and changes to our homes away from home. Coronado Springs Resort Gran Destino Tower If you’re visiting Disney World in 2024, you’re going to want to grab your pen to jot down these changes coming to Disney World hotels. When you’re not walking the parks, you’re probably at the resort pool, right? If so, you’ll want to know about upcoming pool closures coming early 2024. The resorts affected will be Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter. Caribbean Beach Resort Say it’s not so! The Calypso vibes at the old Spanish citadel will temporarily be unavailable in early 2024. The Fuentes del Morro Pool at Caribbean Beach will be undergoing routine maintenance from January 2024 to late March 2024. During this closure, guests are invited to swim in any of the 5 leisure pools found at this hotel. Looks like these updates will be done just in time for the summer months! It’s Scales the sea serpent! If you are hoping to slide down “Scales” the giant sea serpent on your next Disney getaway, you’ll have to wait until after April 2024 to do so. That’s only because the Doubloon Lagoon pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter will be closed from January 2024 to April 2024. Guests will have access to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside‘s Ol’ Man Island pool. The walk from the French Quarter to Riverside is approximately a half mile. But the view of the Sassagoula River is beautiful! Look at that view! We can’t wait to say Aloha! to the new Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Tower in 2024! We’ve been paying close attention to the progress being made on the tower, and they have made huge strides in the past months. The view these new villas will offer is something out of a fairytale. If you were at the airport this weekend and thought it seemed extra busy, you were definitely correct. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) just confirmed that yesterday, November 26th, saw RECORD-BREAKING crowds for air travel. Orlando International Airport is VERY busy The huge crowds of travelers trying to get home after the holiday may have encountered some issues as thousands of delays and cancelations affected U.S. airports. The TSA posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the administration screened over 2.9 MILLION travelers at airports throughout the United States, which is an agency record. November 26th was officially the busiest day EVER for air travel since the TSA’s inception in 2001. The Thanksgiving travel period officially began on Friday, November 17th, and runs through Tuesday, November 28th, so there may still be big crowds at the airport today and tomorrow. Crowds Before the holiday travel began, the TSA predicted it would screen 30 million travelers at U.S. airports between November 17th and the 28th. TSA Federal Security Director Greg Hawko said, “TSA has been preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday travel period for the past several months. We have worked closely with the airlines and airport to ensure that we have a comprehensive staffing and operational plan that ensures we will be ready for the increase in departing passengers” (TSA). Orlando International Airport Check-in With the heavy traffic came some cancelations and delays. According to FlightAware, there were 7,939 delays of flights into or out of the U.S. on November 26th and 55 cancelations. Airplane The TSA reminded travelers to prepare for their trips and plan to be at the airport early if they’re flying during the holidays. They also shared some tips to help passengers get through security faster: “Unpack your bag before you pack it: To avoid bringing prohibited items in carry-on luggage, start with an empty bag or suitcase.” If you’ve been vacationing or visiting family, it’s easy to keep throwing things into your suitcase and then just zip it up quickly on your way home. However, make sure you double-check the contents before you close that bag! “Make sure your Known Traveler Number (KTN) and correct date of birth are in your airline reservation so you will be eligible for TSA PreCheck screening.” Remember that “children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane when traveling with an eligible parent or guardian on the same itinerary.” Also, “this holiday season, teenagers ages 13-17 can accompany TSA PreCheck-enrolled parents or guardians through TSA PreCheck screening when traveling on the same reservation and when the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on the teen’s boarding pass.” “Make a plan for traveling with holiday foods. Most foods can be carried through the TSA checkpoint, but there are some items that will need to be transported in checked baggage.” “If it’s a solid item, then it can go through a checkpoint in a carry-on. However, if you can spread it, spill it, pump it or pour it – and it’s larger than 3.4 ounces (100 ml) – then it should travel in a checked bag.” “Food items often need some additional security screening, so TSA recommends placing those items in a clear plastic bag or other container when packing them at home and then removing those items from your carry-on bag and placing them in a bin for screening at the checkpoint.” “Plan ahead to request passenger support. Travelers or families of passengers who need assistance may call the TSA Cares helpline toll-free at 855-787-2227 at least 72 hours prior to travel with any questions about screening procedures and to find out what to expect at the security checkpoint. TSA Cares also arranges assistance at the checkpoint for travelers with specific needs.” “Plan to arrive at the airport early and prepare for every step of the travel process. There is no substitute for packing your patience and arriving early.” ©AP We’ll keep watching for updates that might affect your holiday travel plans, so stay tuned to DFB!
