  1. December 2nd is a VERY important day in Disney World. Disney’s Hollywood Studios Dapper Day is having its holiday outing at the resort, and we are SO ready to see everyone all dressed up. In case you didn’t know, Dapper Day is a twice-a-year event that happens at both Disney World and Disneyland when people dress up in their best retro fashion and get all…well…dapper. This year, we’re at Dapper Day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a park we might argue that is PERFECT for the occasion. If you’ve never been to a Dapper Day event, it’s a lot of fun. We love seeing all the outfits people put together (and, in many cases, some make their own outfits). So, let’s take a look at some of these AMAZING folks right now. Check out these three, who put together some super festive looks together for today. You can find them on Instagram at @littleantiqueme, @malloryrhoden, and @kvalasek. LOVE the retro Christmas vibes! We’re also in love with this look, and we’re a little obsessed with that houndstooth skirt. Well done, @rocketeerlady! That houndstooth skirt, though These purple and blue colors are UH-mazing for the season. We love seeing couples dressed up together. Thanks for letting us take your photo, @imagemariastudio! SO dapper We’ll be looking for more Dapper Day looks throughout the day, so keep checking back for more photos. 2. Go to Disney World enough times, and you’ll quickly find out that not everything is magical. Look out for crowds! And we’re talking about everything — the crowds, the heat, the wait times, the most random Florida weather. The list can go on and on, but let’s narrow things down a bit. Let’s talk about a couple of the nasty “challenges” you’ll face in Disney World! Let’s waste no time and dive right in! The Reality of Orlando Most of the time Florida is basically paradise. You don’t have to worry about snow or harsh weather. You can almost guarantee that you’ll be seeing sunny weather. But that’s not exactly the whole story. You almost want to insert a comment here that goes like, “With great power (great weather for Florida) comes great …” and that’s what we mean. You’ll feel that “summer heat” almost all year long! The reality is that for most of the year, at least 10 months of it, Orlando is really, REALLY hot and HUMID. You’re basically guaranteed to start sweating profusely by your third step outside. This is why we’re always recommending that you have your hydration and sun protection game on lock. If you come to Disney World from March to November, just remember that you’re going to feel the heat and humidity. That’s Just Uncivilized Now, let’s chat about our fellow Disney-goers. Most of the time, they are awesome, but you will encounter a small group that seems to have left all their manners at home. Trash cans You’ll find trash on tables, babies getting changed in spots you’d never believe, and other things you can’t even imagine — it’s like the uncivilized edition of the Most Magical Place on Earth. The trick here is to keep your cool, focus on the good stuff (you’re on vacation at Disney World!), and let the fun and excitement overshadow those not-so-magical moments. That Second Virtual Queue Drop With park hopping coming back, you’d better believe that the “battle” for the second virtual queue drop is going to be even more intense. TRON As you know, the slots are limited, so the best advice we have is to stay on your toes, plan your day wisely, and try to have fun with the challenge. Navigating the virtual queue is already drama, so try to lighten things up and keep having fun. Hogging Up the Quick Service Lines Park hopping isn’t the only thing coming back in January. The Disney Dining Plan is also making a return. So let’s give you a picture of the next challenge you’re surely going to face. So, you’re hungry and standing in line at a quick-service joint, and the folks in front are holding up the line because they’re trying to decode the Disney Dining Plan like it’s some cryptic message. *Insert massive delays here.* Columbia Harbour House This is the perfect situation for you to whip out your phone and make use of Mobile Order. Skip all of that drama and slow down. That way you can have as hassel-free of a meal as possible. Maybe throw in a dessert, too! 6. We love park hopping. Yes, we do! We love park hopping. How about you? Getting ready to park hop in Disney World Thanks to the Park Pass Reservation system, park hopping has looked different than it used to. The one rule that has stuck around for years about park hopping is that you can’t enter your second park until you’ve scanned into your first park of the day, and that you can’t hop until 2PM. But soon, these rules will be changing! Starting January 9th, all-day park hopping is returning for most guests. To get ready for its return, let’s go over 15 of the best tips for park hopping in Disney World. There are a lot of tips, 15 of them, so let’s dive right in! Book breakfast reservations at your favorite restaurant (even if it’s not your favorite park) and then immediately hop to whichever park you want to! Rope drop your favorite rides, then immediately hop to a less crowded park, and then go back to your first park at night, when lines are shorter again. Here’s a challenge for you. Go to all four parks in one day. (Ride one ride at each park) Genie+ Use the multi-Genie+ option to your advantage! While you’re hitting up rides in the morning while crowds are lower in one park, book your Lightning Lanes for your NEXT park. You can try to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind twice in one day. (Grab a Lightning Lane in the morning and then you’ll have a pretty good chance of snagging a virtual queue at 1PM since you’re already in the park by then.) Cosmic Rewind Use the long days to your advantage by starting at Animal Kingdom (because if you rope drop, you could finish the entire park and leave by 11 potentially, especially if you use Genie+). Don’t forget that you can go into a park, get your favorite snack, and then leave immediately. Rope drop at Hollywood Studios, then run to EPCOT for lunch, and then return to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic and more rides! Fantasmic! Skip the lines and save time by getting those Lightning Lanes! Stack Hollywood Studios for the end of the day while intermittently fitting in rides from the other parks, and remember you can modify the time on the same ride to make it later and work with your evening stack. Remember most shows don’t run all day (so if you’re parking hopping a lot, make sure you’re in the right park at the right time for live entertainment) Festival of the Lion King It could be easier to have a car if you plan on hopping a lot. Disney transportation can take a while and is unpredictable. With driving, you are in control. If you drove to your first park, check the hours before you leave your car there and take Disney transportation to your second park. (If the first park closes earlier, that could mean a big hassle for getting back to your car.) Remember that it takes time to get from one park to another (usually more time than you think). If you’re park hopping for a dining reservation or individual Lightning Lane, allow an HOUR. If you are a rope drop to close person, start with the park that opens earlier and finish with the latest park. 7. The holiday season is here, and that means it’s time to curl up a cup of hot cocoa, snuggle up with our favorite blanket, and watch ALL the holiday movies. ©Disney If you’ve got Disney+, there are plenty of holiday movies to watch, including The Muppet Christmas Carol, Home Alone, and Christmas with Walt Disney. But there’s a NEW holiday movie on the streaming service, too, that you might not know about, and it has some pretty big stars in it. That movie is a short film called The Shepherd, and it stars Ben Radcliffe and John Travolta. The movie follows a young Royal Air Force pilot flying home on a foggy evening. Then, his radio and power cut out on his plane. Just as he’s about to give up hope, a good Samaritan appears through the fog. ©Disney The movie is available on Disney+ now and sounds like the PERFECT way to kick off the holiday season. While you’re streaming on Disney+, be sure to check out the full holiday section to watch all your favorite holiday movies, TV shows, and more. Yes, that includes Frozen, which is listed as a “Winter Favorite” (but is it a holiday movie? Well, that’s for you to decide.) Stay tuned to DFB for more! 8. Okay, where are our cookie lovers at? Holiday cookies Now, we love cookies, too. We just literally made our way around EPCOT’s World Showcase to eat cookies in a special Cookie Stroll. We visit Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs on a regular basis. However, we just found out that Subway is about to release a MASSIVE footlong cookie — and they plan on giving it out for FREE. Yep, Subway wants to offer cookie fans a chance to check out its NEW footlong chocolate chip cookie (), which will be coming to the fast food restaurant in January. In the meantime, you can get regular cookies through December 31st and support the Subway Cares Foundation — each cookie sold will go towards this program. ©Subway Also, for a limited time, Subway MVP members can get a FREE cookie with the purchase of a six-inch or footlong sub. 11. Regardless of knowing how unhealthy McDonald’s might be, we just can’t stay away. McDonald’s Something about the deep-fried, salty burgers and fries keeps us going back for more. However, McDonald’s has most notably opted for faster food over fresher, better-quality items. But now, the popular fast-food joint is opting for quality as it works to stay in the running with other hamburger restaurants. According to the Wall Street Journal, over the past seven years, McDonald’s has been hard at work revamping their hamburger sandwiches, including its signature burger, the Big Mac. Big Mac Since the pandemic, McDonald’s has been doing great in terms of capital, as the outbreak pushed people to use fast-food drive-throughs over being close together at sit-down restaurants. But with other burger options so readily available, such as Five Guys, the famous fast-food restaurant is making some changes. ©Business Insider Chris Young, McDonald’s senior director of global menu strategy, commented, “We can do it quick, fast, and safe, but it doesn’t necessarily taste great. So, we want to incorporate quality into where we’re at.” The company is incorporating over 50 changes to its burger menus around the U.S. These changes include updates to the Big Mac, such as smaller batches of patties being cooked for a more uniform sear, more special sauce, fresher lettuce, and pickle, more melty cheese, and a new buttery brioche bun with more randomly scattered sesame seeds for a “homemade look.” The original Big Mac often lacked sauce and fresh lettuce Some of McDonald’s old practices that made them so popular in the beginning (which were removed for efficiency) are even making a comeback and being revived to bring back quality. Now they are running campaigns marketing “our best burgers ever” and the Hamburgler is returning to advertise these fresher, better burgers. Ronald McDonald, Grimace, Hamburgler, and Birdie Crocs ©McDonald’s x Crocs McDonald’s came in “13th among U.S. chains based on the number of recent customers calling their burgers desirable,” according to the Wall Street Journal, with only 28% of people saying they craved their burgers. This put McDonald’s behind some popular fast-food chains as well as several fast-casual locations like Smashburger and Five Guys. The company hopes this new push for better burgers keeps their company alive as the economy slows and the competition ramps up. Regardless, we’re excited to try these new, revamped burgers. Magic Kingdom We are able to go to different Disney World restaurants and be able to share with you, our readers, our experience. We do this to bring you some knowledge so that when you’re planning your next Disney vacation, you might be able to try new restaurants you have never been to. We were recently invited to have dinner at a steakhouse at Disney World that we bet you didn’t know existed. Atmosphere The Bull & Bear restaurant can be found at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, which is located on Disney World property. The Waldorf Astoria can be found in the Bonnet Creek section of Disney World. ©Waldorf Astoria Orlando When entering the hotel, you can feel the elegance of the space. With gorgeous floors and a beautiful chandelier, you’ll forget you are in Disney World. Waldorf Astoria Hotel Lobby This restaurant is modeled after the original Bull & Bear Restaurant in New York City. The restaurant recently underwent some renovations and now has an updated interior, as well as some new menu items. Bull & Bear When you walk into the restaurant, you’ll check in with the host and soon will be escorted to your table. The dark, moody interior of dark greens and brown will set the tone for an elegant meal. Host Stand The tables are all well spaced so it allows for more privacy. The chairs are comfortable and large, allowing you to relax for your meal. It’s beautiful The restaurant is surrounded by large windows, giving you a gorgeous view of the pool and night sky. Depending on your reservation time and view, you might be able to catch a glimpse of fireworks from EPCOT. The place setting was beautiful, and our server let us know that the dishes were from France. Table Setting Menu Here’s a look at the menu. For starters, you can choose from Oyster Rockefeller, Tuna Tartare, or Dry Aged Yellowtail Crudo. There is also a seafood tower that serves either 2 or 4 people. ©Waldorf Astoria Orlando For main dishes, you can order Escargot & Gnocchi, Veal Oscar, or Fried Chicken. Of course, they offer a few different cuts of steaks for you to order as well. ©Waldorf Astoria Orlando For sides, there are Asparagus, Frites, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and more. ©Waldorf Astoria Orlando As for desserts, they offer The Lemon, which is in fact a lemon, a Chocolate Bar, or La Fraise. ©Waldorf Astoria Orlando Drinks To start off our experience, we were given a tablet to look through different cocktail and wine options. They had an extensive wine list, as well as some cocktails. Drink Menu First, we were able to try a mocktail. They do not have a name for it, but the servers told us they enjoy creating different mocktails for guests with different flavors. Ours had lime and pomegranate juices and was topped with beautiful edible flowers. The mocktail Next, we ordered the margarita. Now, we enjoy a good margarita, and this one was different. This one comes with a chili pepper on the side that you can use to flavor the rim of your glass. Margarita If that wasn’t enough spice, the drink is topped with chili oil giving this margarita a lot of flavor and heat. You can see the oil sitting on top of the drink so that the first sip you take, you get a lot of spice. Spicy Eats To begin, we were given four bread options to choose from. We started with the sourdough topped with poppy and sesame seeds and a fig & rye piece of bread. These were coarse but moist. However, the next two were our favorite. Sourdough & Rye The brioche is topped with butter and rosemary. We’re still dreaming of this one. It was fluffy, sweet, and set our expectations high for the dinner. We also tried the parmesan focaccia, which was light and buttery. Brioche and Focaccia The chef then sent out an amuse-bouche, which was the Pasta Explosion. This light bit is Pata Negra de Bellota with Parmigiano Reggiano for $23. Our server told us that the pasta explosion was meant to be consumed in one bite. They suggested it sit on the roof of our mouth to dissolve. It was creamy and cheesy. Pasta Explosion For our first starter, we ordered the Florida Fresh Corn Chowder. The corn comes fresh from a farm in Jacksonville and in the middle of the soup, you’ll find a Truffle & Robiola Sandwich — think a miniature grilled cheese. We’re not exaggerating when we say that this is one of the BEST soups we’ve tried. It was thick, sweet, and creamy. For $18, we did enjoy this and would order it again. Florida Fresh Corn Chowder Next, we ordered The Tomato for $24. This consisted of Confit Heirloom Cherry Tomato, Burrata Mozzarella, Pumpernickel, Arugula, White Balsamic Caviar, and Basil Foam. The Tomato From the outside, it looks like a juicy tomato, however once cut, you see that it is burrata. The outside of the burrata is actually covered in a gelatin-like coating that tastes like tomato. This was such a fun twist on a normal tomato salad. It was sweet, light, and refreshing. The flavors worked so well together in this dish, and having the basil foam was such a fun way to add that classic ingredient. Look inside Our final starter, which was recommended to us by the server, was the Wagyu Carpaccio. This $24 dish is Shaved Truffles, 18 Month Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano, and Pushed Egg Yolk. While the dish does not come with the Bull & Bear Frites, servers highly recommend ordering them together to balance out the dish. Wagyu Carpaccio and Frites The servers recommend wrapping the wagyu around the frites and dipping them in a combination of Truffle Red Wine Sauce and Peppercorn Sauce. The warmness of the frites with the chilled carpaccio made for a light bite. Paired with the sauce, they were tangy and very flavorful. Wagyu Carpaccio It was time for entrees, and there were so many on the menu to choose from. However, we decided on the Bull and Bear Carving Board. While this comes with a $300 price, you get a LOT of food for it. It comes with Tomahawk Steak, Fried Chicken, Maine Lobster Tail, and a Choice of Two Sides. We know, $3oo is a lot, but look at this board! Carving Board First, the presentation is phenomenal. The board comes with a beef fat candle that they use to pour over your steak. The server will cut the steak off the bone and plate it table side for you. Tableside The Tomahawk Steak is a 38oz Allen Brothers Prime that has been dry-aged for 32 Days. It’s massive and great for sharing. If you want the steak cooked at different temperatures, they will bring a skillet to the table to do that for you. The meat melted when cut. It was savory and peppered well. Tomahawk The Maine Lobster Tail was a large lobster tail. It was buttery and fresh. It was tender and flavorful — the perfect addition to any steak, and it comes with clarified butter to pour over it. Lobster Tail Bull and Bear is known for their fried chicken. This had to be one of the most tender pieces of chicken we’ve ever cut into. It cut like butter and was thick and juicy. It is served on top of Yukon Gold Mash Potatoes and Gravy. Fried Chicken For our side choice, we chose the asparagus. These were flavorful and sauteed well. They were flavored in oil olive and pepper and were a nice healthy addition to our meal. The other side dish we chose was Applewood Smoked Bacon Mac & Cheese. This mac and cheese is baked and is very flavorful. We loved that the breadcrumbs were on top to add texture. Mac and Cheese Believe it or not, it was time for dessert. There were so many things that looked delicious, so the decision was hard. That is a great part of Bull & Bear, the staff will go out of their way to recommend dishes to you, which we really appreciate. Dessert Menu Ultimately, we decided on the La Fraise for $25. This dessert is a Strawberry Shortcake, with Strawberry Sauce and Liquid Nitrogen Strawberry Ice Cream Prepared Tableside. The strawberry ice cream was indeed prepared tableside by our server. This was such a memorable way to enjoy dessert. Table-side ice cream This was incredible and our favorite part of the meal. The ice cream was light and tasted very fresh. The shortcake was fluffy and moist. While strawberry shortcake is a very normal dessert, the presentation of this is what blew us away. This was the perfect way to end our meal. La Fraise Nosh or Not You should visit Bull and Bear if… You are looking for a dining experience. We can say this is a dinner we will remember, and we spent 4 hours at our meal. You are looking for a fine dining restaurant. This was one of the nicest restaurants we’ve been to at Disney World and you’ll feel like you’re in New York. You should look elsewhere if… You are looking for a family experience. If you are traveling with young children, this is a fine dining restaurant and is geared towards adults. You are looking for a quick meal. This dinner is meant to take a while, so if you are in a rush to get to the fireworks or a Lightning Lane, this isn’t the restaurant for you. Overall If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind, elegant dinner experience, this is a wonderful option. The staff was very knowledgeable, patient, and kind. You could tell that they were truly passionate about the food. We truly enjoyed every dish we tried. We left full and it was a dinner we won’t forget. Bull & Bear However, this is not a quick meal. We did spend a total of 4 hours here, and while we did eat a lot of food, we think it is best to have this be your only evening plan. This is also an expensive meal. You will want to come here on a nice date night or come to celebrate a special occasion. If you enjoy fine dining, we would recommend making a reservation and visiting Bull & Bear. It is likely a dinner you won’t forget. 10 Disney World Restaurants Every First-Timer Should Have on Their List! Need Disney Restaurant Advice? 15. When it comes to Disney World hotels, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort comes to mind as being one of the BEST for many folks. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort With its elaborate theming, close proximity to Magic Kingdom, and great perks, people love to stay here; but lots of us struggle to get past that high price tag. Well, what if we told you that there was a way around that uber-high price? Yep, we know just the trick to stay at one of Disney World’s most beloved hotels for A LOT LESS. David’s Vacation Club Rentals is the largest and most well-known Disney Vacation Club (DVC) rental company, and they can be the perfect solution! Let’s start with a couple of basics: DVC is basically Disney’s version of a time share, where you purchase points that count toward stays at Deluxe Disney Hotels. And because DVC requires its members to use their points by a certain date…or lose them completely…some of those members find themselves in a bind if they can’t travel within the stated timeframe. Disney’s Grand Floridian With David’s, you can rent the points that these members can’t use, and stay at Deluxe Villas for a fraction of the cost! It’s a win-win! Grand Floridian There are DVC Villas at the Grand Floridian, so you can use the points that you rent from David’s to score these stays for cheaper. And because you’re using the points that a DVC member can’t use, they benefit from you using those points! Grand Floridian For more information, you can visit David’s Vacation Club Rentals‘ website to learn all the different ways you can save. We’ve used this system many times before, and we always count on David’s. You can find information about it in your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. We headed down to the atrium to get a good spot…along with…everybody else, apparently. The dark room before the lighting Tons of guests were gathered around the tree to watch the lighting. Some of our favorite characters started off the event and counted down to the big moment with us. Almost time! And once the tree was lit, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus came out to say hello and wave to the crowd! The whole room was lit up and it really made for a fantastic start to our first night. 18. The EPCOT Festival of the Holidays has started, and it’s one of those events we look forward to every year. Candlelight Processional Not only do we get SUPER excited about all the food (and you can read our reviews here), but we also love the Storytellers in each country’s pavilion. However, the BEST part of the festival could be the Candlelight Processional, which brings in celebrity narrators and a LIVE choir to tell the story of Christmas. And while it’s very rare for narrators to drop out of the event, that’s exactly what happened this week. The Candlelight Processional recently had some celebrities cancel their appearances, but now we know why one of those narrators couldn’t make it. One of the celebrity narrators who recently dropped out was Ann Margret, who was scheduled to narrate the event on November 28th and 29th. She was replaced by Ashley Eckstein. However, Simi Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Barbie) also had to drop out on November 30th. ©Marvel | Simu Liu Simi Liu took to social media to explain why he couldn’t narrate at this year’s event. “I’m so absolutely gutted to have to drop out of this year’s Candlelight Processional at Disney World,” he wrote on his Instagram story as he cited a “health scare” as his reason. He continued: “For those who were looking forward to seeing me, know that I was equally looking forward to being a part of your holidays. The health of myself and my family are of paramount importance to me. After all, that’s the spirit of this season! And so, after some health scares I’ve made the difficult decision to stay at home. Something tells me this isn’t the last you’ve seen of me at Candlelight though… let’s all keep fingers crossed for 2024!” ©Marvel The actor narrated the Candlelight Processional in 2022, so it’s likely we will get to see him return in 2024. In the meantime, MercyMe’s Bart Millard filled in. These scheduling changes do occasionally happen, although it’s rare. We’ll keep you updated on ALL Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 19. We go to Disney World everyday. Disney World Despite how frequently we visit, we still make mistakes. Yep! We still learn more and more about the parks and how to better navigate them each time we go. The parks are ever-changing, and no two days are ever the same. So, it’s safe to say that we’ve made our fair share of mistakes. Today, we’re here to share those mistakes with you so that you don’t make them like we did! Here are 8 mistakes we made at Disney World in 2023: 1. Got caught at the parks with no rain gear. No matter what the forecast says, ALWAYS pack rain gear in your park bag. Those Florida thunderstorms come out of nowhere! Rain on Main Street There were definitely days in 2023 that we got absolutely drenched because we left the rain gear behind. 2. Thought it was a good idea to try the Powerade Mountain Berry Blast Float with Chocolate Soft-Serve Back in August, we decided to experiment over at Sunshine Tree Terrace and get a Powerade Mountain Berry Blast Float with Chocolate Soft-Serve instead of our usual Citrus Swirl. Bad idea. It was disgusting. We don’t know why we thought it was a good idea, but we do not recommend it. 3. Got lost in EPCOT. UGHHHH. Yes. We fell victim to Wallcot. Those construction walls are like a maze, and if you’re not careful, it’s totally possible to get lost. Wallcot The good news? Those walls are now coming DOWN! 4. Rope dropped Flight of Passage. We often recommend rope dropping as a way to score a shorter wait on popular Disney World rides as the lines tend to be a bit shorter when the park first opens. The most popular ride in the park Well, this trick doesn’t work as well as it used to in general, but it ESPECIALLY doesn’t work with Flight of Passage. You see, this attraction is Animal Kingdom’s most popular attraction, so EVERYONE heads there first. In 2023, there were times that we definitely waited LONGER during rope drop at Flight of Passage than any other time. 5. Buying Genie+ for Animal Kingdom We learned the hard way. Don’t waste your money on Genie+ for Animal Kingdom. Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom has the fewest attractions out of all the parks, so there’s plenty of time to experience all of them within the day. If anything, buy an Individual Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage for the reasons we mentioned before. 6. Tried to park at Disney World hotels. Disney World Cast Members have been cracking down on parking at the resorts. Lots of folks try to park here to walk to the parks, which is particularly frowned upon. However, Cast Members have recently not been allowing folks to park at the hotels to get quick service food. All-Star Movies Parking Before this year, we’d never had a problem parking for quick service, but this year we made that mistake a few times. 7. Budgeting the same as 2022. Each year, Disney World prices go up little by little. Sigh. We always tend to forget to budget just a little bit extra. Disney World We definitely had a hard time adjusting for a bit at the beginning of the year! So, for 2024, just be prepared for some price increases. 8. Waiting in line for food when we could have used mobile order. It’s 2023. Why are we waiting in long lines when we can just use our PHONES? Mobile Order Don’t make the same mistake we did. If a quick service restaurant has mobile order available, use it and save yourself some energy! And there you have it! We’ll continue to keep you all updated with more Disney news and advice! 20. We are HUGE rope-drop fans in Disney World, but, believe me, we’ve messed up BIG TIME! Cinderella Castle Making sure you do EVERYTHING you want while on vacation at Disney World is no easy feat even with tools like Genie+ and lightning lanes to help you out. That’s why it’s so important to use all the best tricks to your advantage! If you’re planning to rope-drop (e.g. be one of the first people in the parks — literally named because the Cast Members hold ropes over the entrances to the lands) Magic Kingdom before the park officially opens, you can LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES and really maximize your time! You’re so eager to get to Magic Kingdom after planning the best vacation yet, only to have that excitement take over your best intentions. The next thing you know all of your preplanning, well-timed advice you’ve heeded, and good ole fashion street smarts have gone by the wayside and you’re blinded by the light hitting Cinderella Castle. Sound familiar? Heed our mistakes and make sure you’re prepared for rope drop at Magic Kingdom so you don’t repeat any of these! It’s going to be a busy day! We’ve rounded up our BEST tips to help you not only get through rope drop but sail right through as easily as possible! Be Aware Of Your TOTAL Travel Time Parking at Magic Kingdom’s parking lot is a bit of a journey. While its distance from the entrance of the park adds to the atmosphere, it can definitely be a hassle and a time sink. Line for the Monorail to Magic Kingdom Make sure you’ve calculated your rope-drop with plenty of time to spare to get through the toll plaza to enter the parking lot, park your car, take the tram to the front of the TTC (or possibly wait a bit on it because it may be making rounds when you walk up), pass through security (assuming you’ve not alerted the metal detectors with your bag), and then walk to either the Ferryboat or Monorail. Monorail to Magic Kingdom Once you’ve gotten to the transportation there’s a short ride over to the front of the park where you’ll be greeted by the Cast Members scanning folks in for the day. This is all the more reason why Disney highly recommends allowing at least 1 1/2 hours when traveling within Disney World property — because sometimes getting from point A to point B is a process. Choosing The Right Strategy Your very first instinct when rope-dropping is to head straight for one of the most popular rides or attractions in the park… and if that’s what you want to use your rope drop time for, we say go for it! But allow us to challenge your thinking on that a bit. Magic Kingdom Hub If that ride wait time is the highest of all the other rides in the parks at that moment, it might not be the best use of your time. How many other rides do you think you could get knocked out while you would be waiting to ride that one ride? At least a few popular rides, probably — and there are a LOT of popular rides in Magic Kingdom whose wait times will grow throughout the day. We’ve used strategies like grabbing a Lightning Lane for the uber-popular Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for later in the day, and using that morning timeframe to knock out multiple rides — and sometimes even whole lands like Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Adventureland — before the park really starts filling up. So weigh your options and plan for what matters most to you! Let’s Talk About Early Entry If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you could get into the park BEFORE the official rope-drop entry. Yes, like beyond the holding area in the hub in front of Cinderella Castle. Early Entry If you’re able to take advantage of this extra 30 Early Entry minutes before the park officially opens, there’s an even better chance that you could knock out a few extra rides. But here’s where the MISTAKE comes in: be warned this isn’t for the FULL park. At early entry you’ll only be able to access Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. There’s PLENTY to do in each to keep you busy for 30 minutes, but just don’t bank on using this time to ride some of the other popular attractions like Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or Haunted Mansion. Those won’t be open until the official park opening time, so don’t get your hopes dashed! Define “Rope-Drop” We’ve seen a lot of disappointed faces as they round through the turnstiles at the entrance of Magic Kingdom only to discover they’re not actually the first ones to enter the park (or to already be in line for that matter) RIGHT as the park is opening. This happens because Disney World parks will often sneakily open before their posted opening time! Crowds If you want to be one of the first (or THE first) on an attraction in the morning, arrive closer to an hour prior to Magic Kingdom’s opening just in case. Yes, that means being in place on Main Street and not just getting to the parking lot. Let’s Stop At Starbucks On The Way! Another common mistake people make when visiting Magic Kingdom is thinking there won’t be a line in the morning at Starbucks. However, we’re here to tell you it’s just as busy here as it is at home. Starbucks If you’re used to grabbing your Starbucks early in the morning to start your day, you’ll want to arrive earlier than rope-drop to make sure you’ve had time to get through the line (BTW, it usually winds out the door and down Main Street U.S.A.) Now to help you out, we’ve found plenty of other places to grab your morning cup of coffee and chances are they won’t be as crowded since they’re not the first coffee stop you’ll see. You’re welcome! Be Sure You’re Actually In Line Ok, this is one that we’ve been guilty of lots of times and not just during rope-drop, but it’s very easy to do! We’ve stood “in line” behind a group of people only to realize later that they weren’t actually in line… which means neither were you this whole time. Tomorrowland crowds It’s totally fine to peer around that group to check and see if they’re moving up with the line, or look around for a Cast Member nearby that may be holding a sign for the end of the line. If you’re gregarious, you can even ask the folks if they’re actually in line! Maybe you’ll make a new friend! Rope-drop can be an awesome way to start to your day at Magic Kingdom if you’re willing to follow a little bit of friendly advice to help it go as smoothly as possible for you. 21. Some exciting new restaurants are opening in Disney World soon. eet by Maneet Chauhan Disney’s BoardWalk is getting two new restaurants next year — Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs and The Cake Bake Shop. Over at Disney Springs, two other new spots will be opening even sooner. Summer House on the Lake is set to open its doors sometime this year, and we’ve already seen a ton of finishing touches arrive. On the other side of Disney Springs, eet by Maneet Chauhan, a new restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef and Food Network star Maneet Chauhan, will be debuting soon too. Today, we got a closer look inside the dining room — come take a look! Maneet Chauhan shared a new video on her Instagram story today to give us a look at what’s in store for the upcoming restaurant. This new counter service spot is located in the Marketplace section of Disney Springs, and when it opens it will serve up “traditional flavor with modern flair.” In the video, we spotted a warm and bold color palette with reds, oranges, and blues and lots of warm lighting. ©Maneet Chauhan via Instagram We also noticed some typical quick-service tables and chairs around the dining room, with a couple of half-booths to choose from. ©Maneet Chauhan via Instagram There is also an outdoor dining area for when the weather is nice! ©Maneet Chauhan via Instagram Near the kitchen, you’ll find a self-service station where you can fill up your cup with Coca-Cola brand soft drinks, but bottles of soda and frozen drinks will also be available. ©Maneet Chauhan via Instagram We also spotted an area with merchandise! It looks like various shirts, hats, stickers, cookbooks, and more will be for sale once this spot opens, so you can grab some souvenirs on your visit. ©Maneet Chauhan via Instagram If you’re anxious to hear more about this upcoming spot — check out the menu here! We also had the chance to check out one of Chauhan’s other restaurants — Chauhan Ale & Masala House, located in Nashville, Tennessee. This table-service restaurant has an impressive menu, so we’re excited to see what the award-winning chef does with her new spot. 22. Have you spent time in Disneyland’s brand-new land?! Port of San Fransokyo San Fransokyo Square opened up on August 31st in Disney California Adventure. It’s themed to Disney’s Big Hero 6 movie, with updated restaurants, gift shops, and character meet-and-greets. And we just spotted two new additions that you have to know about! Let’s check them out! Over at Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería in San Fransokyo Square in Disney California Adventure, we picked up the Gyoza Sausage Bun for $8.99. Gyoza Sausage Bun This is a Steamed Bun with Ground Pork and Vegetables, and it’s served with a Chili-Soy Dipping Sauce. (It reminds us of the Gyoza Bun at Tokyo Disney Sea!) Gyoza Sausage Bun with Chili-Soy Dipping Sauce The steamed bun was warm with a sticky texture and had a sweet-ish taste to it. The sauce has a bit of a sweet soy sauce flavor but it was mostly a strong chili spice. We loved it! Gyoza Sausage Bun with Chili-Soy Dipping Sauce The sauce is KEY here, because the pork and veg in the bun don’t have a ton of flavor on their own. Gyoza Sausage Bun For the price, this is a good, hearty option if you’ve been really hoping that Disneyland would bring in some Gyoza. However, if you don’t dip it in the sauce, it is a bit of a bland treat, so keep that in mind when ordering. Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería with Gyoza Sausage Bun Also, While we were in the area, we noticed that the Port of San Fransokyo had a brand new sign all lit up. Port of San Fransokyo sign Just one more touch that makes the area even more immersive. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on all the latest Disney news! 25. Could the latest MARVEL franchise film make history for the cinematic universe in one of the most unanticipated ways? ©GILBERT FLORES/VARIETY VIA GETTY; LAURA RADFORD/MARVEL We’ve seen Disney eventually find success for a couple of films that had a tepid response initially — like The Little Mermaid and Disney/Pixar’s Elemental. However, Disney’s latest installment to the MCU seems to be struggling at the box office, begging the question of just “what went wrong?” Chances are if you walked anywhere near a movie theater recently you’ve probably seen ample advertising for the latest installment to the MARVEL universe for Disney’s The Marvels. However, despite its huge marketing push, it appears that audiences just weren’t clamoring to get out and see the film quickly. AMC Theater In a recent article with EW, Bob Iger addressed the low numbers at the box office for The Marvels and believes “pandemic-related production restrictions” were to blame. “The Marvels was shot during COVID,” Iger said during a panel at The New York Times’ recent DealBook Summit, according to CNBC. “There wasn’t as much supervision on the set, so to speak, where we have executives [that are] really looking over what’s being done day after day after day.” ©McDonald’s This installment of the MARVEL franchise boasts a female-driven critical cast and crew like director Nia DaCosta (the first Black woman to helm an MCU film), Brie Larson returning as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan (a.k.a. Ms. Marvel), and Teyonah Parris reprising her character as Monica Rambeau. While the film’s reviews have been fine, it didn’t seem to garner the same appeal as some of the bangers that the MARVEL cinematic universe has turned out in the past. ©Disney The film opened in theaters in early November as the 33rd installment in the MCU. While we’re used to seeing billions of dollars from these big productions in the superhero franchise films, The Marvels premiered with a franchise low of $47 million domestically. Currently, its numbers sit at $77 million ($187 million worldwide), potentially setting it up as the first MARVEL film expected NOT to cross the $100 million mark domestically. ©Marvel When reflecting on what went wrong with this film, Iger mentioned that they might have to be more “realistic” about each film’s potential. Iger also cited a rise in demand for streaming as a contributor to the company’s theatrical struggles. “Disney+ you can get for $7 a month,” he said. “That’s a lot cheaper than taking your whole family to a film. So I think the bar is now raised in terms of quality about what gets people out of their homes into movie theaters.” ©Disney Another cause for concern seemed to stem from an excess of sequel films. “I don’t want to apologize for making sequels,” Iger said. “Some of them have done extraordinarily well and they’ve been good films, too.” Additionally, he went on to say, “I think there has to be a reason to make them. You have to have a good story. And often the story doesn’t hold up to — is not as strong as the original story. That can be a problem.” Iger has admitted that Disney has gone on to make “too many” sequels recently, however, “it doesn’t mean we’re not going to continue to make them.” Iger then went on to comment that several sequels for popular films are already in various production stages as we speak and that the company will continue to assess and greenlight continuing sequels if, “we believe the story that the creators want to tell is worth telling.” Be sure to follow us for the latest Disney news, updates, and more here at Disney Food Blog.
