  1. After Universal Orlando made a TON of announcements and gave new details about its upcoming Epic Universe park, the third park at the resort, many believe that Disney World needs to step it up and add a new park. Disney World entrance sign Some analysts believe Disney will announce a fifth park soon (although it hasn’t happened yet, even after Disney’s Q1 2024 earnings call), but what exactly should that park be? What should its theme be? We decided to go to the Disney experts, aka YOU, our DFB Readers to see what you thought. Let’s just say, you have some strong opinions about the matter! Something with more thrill rides Some of you aren’t concerned with a specific theme but think that Disney World needs a park with more thrill rides to compete with Universal. Michael wrote, “A theme park that gives Universal some competition. Thrilling rides, bigger and better coasters.” What? Mission: SPACE isn’t thrilling enough? Robert commented, “Disney Worlds Fair….Go back to Disney’s Roots. Fair rides, roller coasters, thrill rides. Something more exiting. Of course all themed as only Disney can do it. Put hotels in or right on the perimeter of the park so guests can just walk right in.” Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind We do agree that a new theme park should also mean some new hotels! What Disney’s New $1.5 Billion Investment Could Mean for the Parks Something like Tokyo DisneySea Many of you like the concept of Tokyo DisneySea with its themed ports (not to mention its upcoming Fantasy Springs). This gives the park a chance to bring in a variety of themed lands, which could work well for Disney World. ©Disney Brittany can visualize it: “An aquatic Tokyo DisneySea type park with lots of steampunk and Atlantis, Little Mermaid, just a beautiful park modern / interesting park. With lots of waterfalls. I can picture it in my head.” Tokyo DisneySea Spencer took that idea even further: “If Tokyo Land Company can take the best of MK and DL. We should take the best of what the Asian parks have. Base it on Tokyo DisneySea and then add, Mystic Manor, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, Arendelle and Zootopia.” 10 MAJOR Announcements from Tokyo Disney That Will Have You INSTANTLY Booking a Trip Villains Park Okay, the OVERWHELMING response is that our readers REALLY want to see a Villains Park. Now there have been discussion for YEARS about such a park called Dark Kingdom based on a lot of speculation about unrelated Disney Parks projects, rumors, and people who insist Disney needs to make a Villains-themed park happen. So it seems like this concept remains VERY popular with Disney fans. Hades at Oogie Boogie Bash in Disneyland Kim said, “I like the idea of a Villains Park. There is a lot of cool theming you could do.” Lisa greed, “Villains! They need some love!” (Yes, Villains need love, too.) Meanwhile, Tina had some SERIOUS ideas, “Villains with Maleficent’s castle being the anchor of the park. And like others are saying, geared toward older kids. Have more thrill rides, with a smaller kids section like US- IOA. There are so many awesome Disney villains to build attractions, shows, and dining experiences around.” Fire-breathing Maleficent Mary also had some great ideas, “Villains with coasters aimed for the more mature crowd. Give Universal Studios and Sea World a run for their money with some great Coasters. The Teens will LOVE this. And maybe add some type of small city Walk adjacent to it, that has bars with bands and DJs for dancing—- like the old Pleasure Island. It would do awesome!!” Captain Hook So yes, a lot of you want to see a Villains Park happen. We wouldn’t be mad about it — how much fun would that be?!?!? Hey, Disney, are you paying attention? We Went to All Four Disney World Parks in 63 Minutes! So as you can see, our readers have some pretty great ideas when it comes to Disney World’s fifth park. Now, as we said, Disney has not confirmed a fifth park, although there are still plans for a Magic Kingdom expansion, as well as a DinoLand re-theme in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As for the fifth gate, though, we’re all just still holding our breath and waiting for that announcement. 7 Tried and True Disney World Essentials From Amazon Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 2. We’ve recently learned even more about Disney’s BIG plans for its streaming services. ©Disney First, the company has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery to bring ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery sports coverage into one streaming service. And although Disney+ seems to have lost some subscribers, its average monthly revenue per paid subscriber increased by 9% domestically. Overall, the company seems to be very confident about one of its major goals (and CEO Bob Iger’s #1 priority): to have streaming become profitable in 2024 (yep, this year). During Disney’s recent Q1 2024 earnings call, the company’s CFO, Hugh Johnston, said, “We still expect to reach profitability at our combined streaming businesses in Q4 of fiscal 2024 and have never been more confident about our path to creating a strong and sustainable streaming business, with growing subscribers over the long term and, ultimately, double-digit operating margins, a business which we fully expect to be a key earnings growth driver for the company.” ©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters So, if Disney+ just lost subscribers, how will profitability become obtainable for the company? Well, there are a few ways streaming is going to bring in more money for Disney. One, technological advances will help bring in more revenue. Disney has already created some new tech that will integrate shopping and gaming experiences into its streaming services that could double as interactive ads. ©Disney Another way that Disney hopes to bring in more revenue is by making Hulu content available on Disney+ for subscribers who pay for both. That feature is already available as a beta version, with an official launch of the feature happening in March 2024. Disney also hopes that more customers will choose to bundle streaming services and that this new feature will encourage that. ©Hulu Of course, Disney’s big partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery for streaming sports content will also bring in the $$$…if the company is allowed to continue with plans for the service. The service will be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, with each company owning one-third of the product. ©ESPN In November 2024, Disney partnered with Globoplay, a streaming service in Brazil, to provide Disney+ through a combined subscription package to those who have Globoplay in Latin America. Disney+ continues to spread its streaming service across the globe. ‘Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers’ Disney+ Ad in Hollywood Studios We also have to mention Disney and Hulu’s crackdown on shared passwords. Shared accounts outside of the same household will no longer be allowed on the services, but Disney mentioned that it is planning to offer a feature to add additional accounts to a subscription for an additional fee. This will also bring in additional streaming revenue. That, plus recent price hikes for streaming services, puts Disney well on track to reach its profitability goal this year. We’ll be keeping an eye on any updates about Disney’s streaming services, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 3. There are Disney collectors, like those of us who collect Minnie Ears, Loungeflys, and nuiMOS. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Then there are Disney COLLECTORS, who own parts of Disneyland history, Thor’s hammer (you know, from the Marvel movies), an actual Disneyland Skyway gondola, and more. Well, remember that auction we told you about where Figment’s SKIN was being sold? That same auction now has a Star Wars character’s REAL hands up for bidding. Okay, so you might be thinking this auction is for the prop hand used by Luke Skywalker or Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars movies. But nope, this is for a PAIR of hands from another character. You can bid on a pair of hands that belong to C3-PO as worn by actor Anthony Daniels. Yep, you can get the Protocol Droid’s actual HANDS from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. ©Prop Store Auction You’ll also find a few other interesting items up for bidding, including a Sandworm Puppet from Beetlejuice, Marty McFly’s western shirt from Back to the Future, Star-Lord’s blaster from Guardians of the Galaxy, Kylo Ren’s prototype helmet from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a piece of hand-painted Daredevil art from Marvel Comics, and more. ©Prop Store Auction So if you’re into collecting movie memorabilia, including Disney movie memorabilia, you might want to check it out — you know if you have the cash to spend (let’s just say these items sell for a LOT of money). The auction will take place from March 12th through 14th. We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney items up for grabs in auctions and let you know when we spot something interesting, so stay tuned to DFB for more. When are you headed to Disney World next? 4. FINALLY! Two long-term closures that have plagued Disney World for a WHILE are going to come to an end within the next couple of months. Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle Let’s check out these exciting updates and take a look at ALL the temporary closures and refurbishments that will affect Disney World from February 11th through the 17th. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, 1900 Park Fare is a table service restaurant where you could meet characters at their Supercalifragilistic Breakfast and Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner. This restaurant has been closed for a long time, but Disney has finally announced an opening date and BIG changes coming soon! ©Disney 1900 Park Fare will reopen with NEW dining offerings starting April 10th, 2024. One of the signature menu items here is the Floridian Strawberry Soup. Luckily, Disney announced that this menu item will RETURN! Strawberry Soup at 1900 Park Fare And as part of the reopening, there’s another big announcement — new characters will be available to meet at the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Mirabel, and Tiana in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will all be present to “celebrate the power of a wish.” Mirabel For breakfast and dinner, you’ll be able to enjoy a buffet meal. There will be new menu offerings available that pay homage to the new characters and their stories. Check out more changes coming to 1900 Park Fare here! Typhoon Lagoon Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will be reopening on March 17th, 2024! Typhoon Lagoon Wave Pool The water park has been closed since November 2023 while Disney worked on some refurbishments and spruced up the place. While the park was closed, visitors could instead go to Blizzard Beach Water Park, which was still open — but that’s about to change too. Blizzard Beach will be closed as of March 17th, 2024, so March 16th will be your last day to squeeze in a visit if you want! Blizzard Beach Water Park The water parks may close when it’s especially cold outside, so keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to double-check that one is open before you go. Learn more about Typhoon Lagoon here! Those aren’t the only current closures in Disney World, though. Check out this list to see more rides, restaurants, and attractions that are currently being affected by refurbishments. Magic Kingdom Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree closed on January 27th, 2024, for refurbishment. The show is closed for now! Disney announced that a NEW show is coming to Country Bear Jamboree, with the bears learning an all-new act. The new show should open THIS SUMMER. Learn more about the changes coming to Country Bear Jamboree here! If you’re looking for a way to celebrate this attraction as it’s closing down, check out these Country Bear Jamboree Collectible Plushes on Amazon! Disney WDW 50th Country Bear Jamboree Collectibles The set comes with three collectible plushes: Teddi Barra, Big Al, and Henry. View on Amazon The Barrel Bridge on Tom Sawyer Island The Barrel Bridge on Tom Sawyer’s Island has been completely missing for several months. When it first went missing, we asked a Cast Member what was going on. They told us that it had been removed for repairs and would be back soon. Barrel Bridge We’ve checked back every single day, but every day we’re disappointed to see that it’s still gone! There’s no word on when the bridge might return. Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace This restaurant’s location is prime real estate, just off Main Street, U.S.A., by the entrance to Tomorrowland. It seems like it’d be a no-brainer to reopen it so that guests have more options for eating and can take advantage of that huge dining room! Dining room Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain closed over a year ago for a long refurbishment. The ride is being re-themed to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with a Princess and the Frog theme. Check out all the progress! The new ride will reopen sometime in 2024. Disney originally said “late 2024,” but in recent updates, they’ve removed the “late” and are just going with “2024” — does that mean it could open SOONER? We’ll be watching for more updates on the opening timeline. Faux painting happening! Disney also recently released lots of new information about this ride, including a hint that there will be Splash Mountain Easter Eggs throughout the attraction! Splash Mountain vs. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: Huge Changes After One Year If you miss Splash Mountain or want to celebrate the new ride, you should check out our DFB t-shirts! We have a Splash Mountain Farwell Tour shirt… DFB Exclusive! …and a Tiana tee as well! Check out our new Tiana-inspired merch! Disney’s Hollywood Studios Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has been confirmed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” It’s Official: A NEW Snack Stand Is Coming to Hollywood Studios Disney’s Animal Kingdom Kali River Rapids Kali River Rapids usually closes early in the year for refurbishment since water rides like this tend to be less popular during the winter months when it’s colder than usual. No one wants to get soaked if it’s chilly outside! In 2024, it closed on January 8th. Kali River Rapids Disney has announced that Kali River Rapids will be closed through mid-March. Right now, Disney’s calendar shows that this ride should reopen on March 16th, but Disney hasn’t officially confirmed this as the reopening date. Disney dropped a major HINT about the Animal Kingdom Encanto expansion! EPCOT Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is still closed in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when it might reopen. Florida Blue Medicare Lounge The restaurant is kind of open right now — it’s functioning as a lounge with just a couple of drink options. However, we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen! Something NEW Arrived in EPCOT Ahead of the Flower & Garden Festival! Disney World Hotels Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is going to be closed until late March 2024. Fuentes del Morro pool During this time, Disney says that “guests are welcome to swim in any of the five leisure pools” at Caribbean Beach Resort. Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter The Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter will be closed from January 2024 to April 2024. Doubloon Lagoon If you’re staying at this hotel during the pool’s closure, you can still go swimming at the Ol’ Man Island Pool at Port Orleans Riverside. 6. There’s one (tiny) neighborhood in Disney World that just might be the sketchiest community in the world. This place is RIFE with crime Yes, we’re talking about the Tiny Train Town in the Germany Pavilion, where we’ve witnessed criminal behavior, outright lawlessness, and, dare we say…MURDER? Yes, tragedy has fallen upon the citizens of Tiny Train Town yet again…but DFB is on the case! We decided to pay a visit to the Tiny Train Town, and once again, we were met with disaster. First, we think someone had a little too much to drink at the pub because he’s literally fallen face-first into the dirt. Or maybe he got unruly in the pub, and the bouncers tossed him out. Either way, he might need some help. Someone got thrown out of the pub Also, have you ever heard the phrase that marriage can be murder? Well…this guy just got married, and it, apparently, killed him. There’s the bride just standing there…doing NOTHING. Is she a wanna-be Constance Hatchaway? Did she just push him out the door and down the stairs? We feel bad for this poor wedding guest who thought she was just witnessing a wedding. Is her name Constance? These two men got into a really big tussle, and it looks like they managed to knock each other out. Can’t these Tiny Town Train citizens just get along? (The answer is “no,” because this town is like something out of the Wild West, and they are ALWAYS up to no good). The sheer lawlessness of it all Anyway, we also witnessed someone who got kicked to the curb…well, more like OFF the curb. Look at that woman sitting so calmly there — we think she might’ve pushed him. The guy kneeling behind her looks suspect, doesn’t he? Is he trying to hide? He ain’t seen nothin’, officer (who are we kidding? There are NO cops in Tiny Train Town — we think the citizens scared them off). He got kicked to…well…off the curb Here’s the thing that concerned us the most about our recent visit to the Tiny Train Town. All of these men in white look like the Jammitors. Wait…has anyone seen the Jammitors recently? Has Tiny Train Town gotten to them?!?!?!?! Is that a Jammitor? However, the murder spree seems to have spread to this man and his cow, too. Like, who would do that? We’ll tell you who…someone who lives in Tiny Train Town. It’s okay, farmer Mike and Bessie…we’ll get to the bottom of this and find out who did this to you! We do think that the lizard on the roof is looking mighty suspicious. NOT THE COW! Needless to say, this is the most dangerous neighborhood in Disney World, and we’re just going to put out a tourism advisory suggesting no one visits here until we get to the bottom of all this crime. We’ll keep an eye on Tiny Train Town for you and keep you updated, so be sure to stick around for more episodes of “Chaos in Tiny Train Town” (working title for our soon-to-be true crime Tiny Town podcast). 7. Universal Studios has been the talk of the town recently. Universal Orlando News of the newest Universal Orlando theme park, Epic Universe, has gone viral. 5 new themed lands along with new rides, restaurants, and shops will be opening up sometime in 2025. But Epic Universe isn’t the only new Universal theme park we need to be on the lookout for. A possible Universal destination could be in the works in the UK, and now, they have the backing of the local government. Back in December 2023, we informed you that Universal had purchased land in Bedford Borough and had announced that they are considering creating a new theme park there. The Universal spokesperson had then stated, that they are “still very early in planning this potential project.” Universal Orlando Now, according to the Independent, the UK government is looking to help bring the theme park to fruition. Labour MP of the Bedford constituency, Mohammad Yasin, has acknowledged that the park would bring “enormous prosperity and jobs” to the area. The Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, stated, “I’m very familiar with that scheme – I’ve been briefed on it myself, and I know the Chancellor has been involved in this as well.” Minion Land in Universal Orlando At a Transport meeting, Mohammad Yasin asked, “Given road infrastructure funding has already been allocated until 2025, will the Government commit to supporting this exciting project and funding the substantial road improvements that will be necessary for this plan to go ahead?” Harper answered, “We will look very carefully at the proposals put forward, and I know the Government will want to do what we can to make sure that this exciting proposal comes to fruition.” Universal Orlando Dr. Sabrina Mittermeier, a theme park historian, shared with BBC that while it is common for local communities and governments to support projects like this for economic reasons, it can come with hefty price tags for improvements to roads and infrastructure, all of which are at the cost of the state. For example, she shared that “France had to put in a lot of money to pay for road and rail improvements to accommodate millions of visitors,” when Disneyland Paris was created. Universal Orlando Currently, NBC Universal bought what was a former brickworks location in Bedfordshire and Comcast Corporation acquired land near the market town. No new information regarding the possible future theme park has been shared by Universal, but the fact that the government is ready and willing to support the project is a very positive sign. In the meantime, we’ll be watching for more details, so stay tuned to DFB! 8. One of the most important things to pay attention to during your Disney World trip is the wait times! Disney World requires a LOT of walking! You pay SO much money to get into the parks, so you want to make the most of your time right? That’s why we’re always tracking the changes in wait time patterns and boy, do we have an update for you today. Wait times have been decreasing at a steady pace across the board, but times increased at EVERY attraction in one Disney World park this week. You may think it’s Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom…but this actually happened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Below, you will find the average wait times at every attraction in all four parks. 9. It’s no secret that we love a good Target run. We’re seeing inflation all over the place! We love finding new essentials for our next Disney trip, little splashes of fun Disney whimsy to add to our home decor, and, of course, those impulse buys of best-selling books and cute accessories that somehow find their way into our baskets. Target already has a free loyalty program that offers shoppers deals and rewards, but with declining sales numbers, Bloomberg reports that Target is now considered a paid membership similar to Amazon Prime, Walmart Plus, and Kroger Boost. Target This new paid membership program could look to incorporate Shipt, its delivery service. And since its primary competitors like Walmart and Amazon have also adopted this membership strategy, it’s a consideration quickly coming close to reality. Disney stuff in Target No additional details were given about pricing, tiers, or what the paid membership would include, or even if Target Red Card holders could expect any additional perks or discounts. If it’s anything similar to Amazon Prime, Walmart Plus, or Kroger Boost, members can expect exclusive deals, discounts, and perks, such as free deliveries for groceries. The program, dubbed “Project Trident,” could roll out by the end of 2024. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this change. Stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest updates! 10. Disney made a few HUGE announcements recently. Attention, all you Disney fans, we’ve got some GREAT news. Moana in EPCOT Although we already knew that Zootopia, Frozen, and Toy Story 5 were on the way, Disney just shared some NEW timelines for these projects. We even got a few theme park announcements. Perhaps the most surprising announcement, though, was about a movie that NO ONE knew about called Moana 2. Even stranger is that Moana 2 is coming out in theaters later this year! Say what? Well, now we’re getting news that one of the original stars from the first movie could be back for the second. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that Disney was so enamored with the Disney+ Moana series that was in progress that the company decided to turn it into a feature-length film instead. Now, we would think that the voice cast for the series would have already been set since the movie is premiering this November, but it sounds like that might not be the case. ©Disney In fact, Disney announced that the film is set to be released on November 27th, 2024, yet according to Deadline, Dwayne Johnson is “in talks” to return as Maui for the sequel. Even more perplexing is that the Moana voice actress Auli’i Cravalho has not confirmed she will join the project. Deadline reports that the actress is “in talks, but they aren’t as close as Johnson’s.” ©Disney In an interview with ET, Dwayne Johnson commented on the new sequel. “It’s very exciting. I can’t wait for fans to see the film, the technology, the effects, cutting edge,” Johnson explained. “We all really went for it. We thought if we’re gonna make a sequel to something so beloved, let’s really go for it.” Additionally, we know that Lin Manuel Miranda will NOT be returning to write the music for the sequel. Disney dropped the first teaser trailer for the film, which you can see below. In addition, it seems like the live-action Moana movie is also still in the works, although it looks like it might get pushed back in light of this release. Johnson will both star and produce that movie, but Cravalho will not return as Moana, although she will act as an executive producer on the film. ©Disney We’ll be keeping an eye out for more Moana 2 updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 11. Disney recently held its Q1 2024 earnings call this week, and we got some pretty big announcements. ESPN feature at CES 2024 First, we learned how the Disney Parks were doing financially. We also learned about how Disney’s streaming services were doing. Disney also announced a new alliance with Fox and Warner Bros. for a brand-new sports streaming service. Well, one cable group is now calling for the Justice Department to review that alliance and service. Here’s the deal. Disney and ESPN are teaming up with Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery to make a joint streaming platform for sports assets. The new sports subscription streaming service would be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, with each company owning one-third of the product. ©ESPN According to The Wrap, ACA Connects, a group representing around 500 small and medium cable providers across the U.S., believes Disney’s plan creates an “anticompetitive sports streaming juggernaut.” As a result, ACA Connects has called for an antitrust review by the Justice Department. Here’s a note: Warner Bros. Discovery is a member of ACA Connects. Walt Disney Company Headquarters ©LA Times In a statement, the ACA said: “The ‘house of cards’ in the video marketplace continues to wobble. Allowing the biggest media players to join forces—while locking out traditional linear cable providers from offering the same package at the same price—only gives even more power and leverage to the Goliaths to extract more money from customers of ACA Connects Members. This clearly isn’t a functioning free market. With customers facing higher prices and fewer affordable choices, there needs to be a level playing field.” ©ACA Connects The new sports streaming service is expected to launch this fall and will include a HUGE variety of professional and college sports. Subscribers can choose to subscribe directly or bundle the service with their existing Disney+, Hulu, or Max subscriptions. ©Disney ACA Connects asserts that the deal should receive an antitrust examination from the Justice Department because it believes the new service will pull customers away from cable services while increasing costs. Disney has not commented on the situation at this time. Disney+ We’ll keep an eye on the situation and keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 12. Are you ready to ride those epic rides at Disney World? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Since we’ve had the changes to the rules for park pass reservations, we wanted to see how they affect Virtual Queues, and if that means you’ll be facing problems when you come to Disney World. Let’s find out! As you know, there are two attractions at Disney World that you can’t just stand in line to ride — TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This is where Virtual Queues come into play. TRON Lightcycle / Run Virtual Queues are free reservations that allow you to join the standby line for those attractions without having to purchase an individual lightning lane to ride. There are certain times of day when the virtual queues open and you join them by using the My Disney Experience app. And then, you wait — without getting in line! You can be doing other things around the parks while you wait in line virtually. Once your turn to join the actual line is “called” you’ll be notified in the My Disney Experience app with a time window for arrival. Tap Point for Lightning Lane entrance for Cosmic Rewind Here was the problem you used to face: Before the changes on January 9th, if you wanted to ride EITHER of the attractions, you had to make a park pass reservation for the preferred attraction’s respective park for the morning and then attempt to secure a virtual queue to ride on the app starting at 7AM. For example, if you had a park reservation for EPCOT, you could ONLY try to get a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy — you couldn’t try to get a virtual queue for TRON in Magic Kingdom, and vice versa. This meant you had to vie against those who were signed up to visit the same park that morning. If you missed that time, you could make a second attempt in the park after you had scanned in to visit for the day at 1PM, but ONLY if you had already scanned into the park. TRON Lighting Lane But now, since the park hopping changes on the 9th, you can try for either ride’s virtual queue first thing in the morning! This means that if you’re planning to go to Magic Kingdom and you’re on your phone ready to snag that TRON virtual queue reservation right when they open up at 7AM but find that it’s sold out before you can grab one you can quickly change to the Guardians of the Galaxy screen and try for that virtual queue instead. Screenshot of My Disney Experience This is a game-changer. All you’ll need to do is just change your plan and go to EPCOT on that day if you get that virtual queue. So you no longer have to worry about having a park reservation for EPCOT. Essentially, you have TWO chances to get a morning virtual queue instead of one. Keep in mind that you can’t hold two virtual queues at once. If you get a TRON boarding group, you can’t go get a Guardians of the Galaxy one, too, or vice versa. Screenshot of My Disney Experience If you really want to grab a virtual queue for one of these two rides, make sure that you’re on the app early and ready to join the queue. The way they sell out depends on the day and the crowds. Honestly, this new process is so much better. You still have to act quickly to get a virtual queue, but now you can almost immediately switch to the attraction if the first one is sold out and then you can park hop to the other park after riding that ride! 14. Does anyone else just really LOVE spring? Well, despite the seasonal allergies and all that. Flower and Garden Festival (2023) Spring is one of our favorite seasons at Disney World in particular, because it brings one of our FAVORITE festivals in EPCOT, some fun snacks, and more. This week at Disney World gave us just a glimpse of spring, and it just wasn’t enough. Now, we’re hoping that spring will arrive FASTER. (Thank goodness Punxsutawney Phil says it will be an early spring this year.) Anyway, let’s talk about those things that happened at Disney World this week that made us feel like spring was in full bloom. We’ll start over in EPCOT. The FIRST Flower and Garden topiary of the year arrived! The International Flower and Garden Festival will begin on February 28th, and EPCOT is already preparing, of course!. One of the best parts about the festival is the opportunity to check out all the topiaries. Flower and Garden Festival 2023 EPCOT’s horticulture team designs and builds these topiaries that look like Disney characters ENTIRELY out of plants. It’s incredible, and we love spotting all the new and returning ones each year. Well, the very first topiary of 2024 has officially arrived to the park. Flower and Garden Festival 2023 It’s Tinker Bell! Hi Tink! We think she looks absolutely adorable, and we can’t wait to watch the rest of the topiaries show up over time. See what else is new at EPCOT! Let’s head to Disney Springs! Blue skies and sunshine showed up in Disney Springs! All sorts of treats have been popping up this month at Disney World in honor of Black History Month. Celebrate Soulfully is Disney’s Black History Month celebration, and it never fails to bring us snacks that we wish could stick around all year long. One fun snack AND activity you can grab is COFFEE ART in Disney Springs! Joffrey’s in Disney Springs Joffrey’s in The Landing at Disney Springs is now offering limited-time coffee art and flavorsas part of Celebrate Soulfully. This month only, you can get Princess Tiana art on top of your coffee! This location is also offering Jazzy Java flavored coffee for a limited time. IT’S SO CUTE! For our last stop, let’s head to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. 1900 Park Fare is COMIN’ BACK. 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will reopen for the FIRST time since before the pandemic on April 10th, 2024. This is exciting news, as the buffet dining experience allowed guests to indulge for breakfast and dinner in an atmosphere that truly feels like it’s straight out of Mary Poppins. As a matter of fact, visitors could partake in a character breakfast here — Supercalifraglistic Breakfast. This experience allowed folks to dine and eat characters like Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Prince Charming, and Winnie the Pooh. 1900 Park Fare Now, you can expect to see Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Cinderella, Mirabel, and Tiana, who will be in her new look for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! They’ll be there to celebrate the power of a wish, Disney said. ©Disney Oh, and guess what else?! STRAWBERRY SOUP IS COMING BACK, TOO! It’s a cold, sweet soup that’s so incredibly refreshing on a hot day in the parks. We are so stoked, y’all. You can make your reservations as early as March 5th. 15. This weekend is about to get really…interesting. Disney World is going to get busy this weekend Why? Well, earlier this year, we warned you that Disney World might see some BIG crowds one random weekend in February thanks to a cheer competition, and now, the crowds have arrived. Yesterday, February 9th, we saw the highest Genie+ price we’ve seen in over a month, suggesting Disney expected more demand for the service that day. Plus, Super Bowl Sunday could bring in some folks. Today, we’re seeing another sign that things are going to be super busy — Park Pass reservations are completely GONE for all four parks today. Disney’s Park Pass reservation system was put in place in 2020 after the park reopened following the COVID-19 pandemic. The system required visitors to make a reservation to one of Disney World’s theme parks ahead of time. That requirement was recently loosened for visitors with date-based theme park tickets (which is MOST visitors to Disney World), but some visitors still have to make those Park Pass reservations. Entering a Park The following tickets still require a park pass reservation: student group tickets, sports and convention tickets, Florida Resident Disney Thrills tickets, Disney Military Salute Tickets, and some other ticket types. Well, if you fall into any of those ticket groups and have not made a park pass reservation for today, February 19th, you may notice that you are unable to make one. Park Pass reservations are completely sold out for all four parks. ©Disney Annual Passholders also need to make Park Pass reservations, except on those days deemed as “good-to-go” by Disney. However, today is NOT a “good-to-go” date, and Park Pass reservations are completely gone for Annual Passholders, too. ©Disney So what can you do if you can’t enter the parks today? Well, you can always visit Disney Springs, which offers plenty of shopping and dining options. You can also just plan a resort day if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel. If you’re at Disney World for the whole weekend, you might also want to make sure you’ve made Park Pass reservations for the rest of your trip if they’re required for your ticket type. EPCOT For those of you who don’t require Park Pass reservations to enter the park, we’ll just warn you now that the parks might be busy, so expect crowds and long lines for everything from attractions to food. Pro tip: Mobile Order your counter service food early and set the time for when you actually want to eat. Trust us, this will save you a lot of time. You also might want to consider purchasing Genie+ to skip long ride lines and access rides’ Lightning Lanes (note that some rides are not included with Genie+, and you may need to pay for the Individual Lightning Lane option for those). We’ll continue to keep an eye on the park pass reservation situation, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 6 Tees You Need For Your 2024 Disney World Vacation Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 16. We love eating at the Disney World hotel restaurants! Don’t you? Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Since the pandemic, Disney World hotels and restaurants have reopened one by one. Recently, we finally got word that one holdout is finally reopening, so we wanted to find out what your thoughts were about the changes that are coming to that restaurant when it returns. We asked and boy, did you deliver! We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “What do you think of the new characters coming to 1900 Park Fare?” The results were pretty varied. We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments! What do you think? Now, let’s dive into the results! 1. Against the change It looks like we have a winner! Almost half of you expressed disappointment or sadness about the change in characters and preferred the old lineup (About 47% of you based on the responses). You feel that the new characters don’t fit the theme/atmosphere of the restaurant. Mary Poppins These two responses sum up those feelings best: “I prefer the characters that used to be there. More fitting with the theme than the new ones” and “Horrible. The room and remodel of the Grand Floridian is Mary Poppins theme. How could you not have Mary Poppins?” 2. Supportive of the the change In second place, we found out that about a third of you are excited about the change, either because you see potential in the new lineup or because are are simply happy that the restaurant is reopening (About 33% of you based on the responses). ©Disney These two responses sum up those feelings perfectly: “I’m so excited it’s finally re-opening” and “Nice add, I’m on board.” 3. Undecided In last place, we found that some of you expressed a mix of emotions or confusion about the change (About 20% of you based on the responses). Dining Room at 1900 Park Fare (2019) I think this comment sums it up best: “I feel like I’m confused. What do these characters have to do with each other & how do they fit into one theme?” Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Those were just some of your thoughts on the new characters coming to 1900 Park Fare and we’d love to find out more from you! 17. Most parts of your Disney vacation are within your control. Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland You can plan where you’re going to sleep, as well as what you’re going to do. You can plan where you’re going to eat and book dining reservations. You can’t plan for weather events and, well…earthquakes. This week, earthquakes shook three separate tourist destinations over the course of just 48 hours. According to NBC News, at around 1:47PM local time on February 9th, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 struck the Los Angeles area, centered around 7 miles northwest of Malibu. Malibu is around 50 miles from Disneyland, which means it was felt there, too. According to CBS 8, several Disneyland rides closed for about 30 minutes as a safety precaution. No significant damage or injuries have been reported due to the quake. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System also commented that there was no likely wave threat. Disneyland This comes after torrential rain has been pouring over the region, causing severe weather and flooding. At the moment, the county that Disneyland resides in, Orange County, is in a state of emergency due to the rain. Mickey’s ToonTown On the East Coast, Fox35 reported a rare earthquake off the coast of Florida. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 4.0, struck about 101 miles off the coast of Cape Canaveral at 10:48PM on February 7th. People on the nearby coast reported feeling the earthquake, although no damage or injuries were reported. Cape Canaveral is about 60 minutes away from Disney World, although there aren’t any major reports that the quake was felt there. However, Disney Cruise Line sails out of Port Canaveral. There were no reports from Disney World that the earthquake was felt The third earthquake was reported in Hawaii. According to NBC News, a magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck just south of the Big Island of Hawaii at around 10AM local time. The earthquake was centered 11 miles south of Naalehu, Hawaii. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center stated no tsunami was expected. Shaking was felt as far as Honolulu on the island of Oahu, about 200 miles away. Disney’s Aulani Resort is located about 20 miles from Oahu, so it may have been felt there. @DisneyAulani So, if you happen to find yourself on vacation in these areas, what can you do when there’s an earthquake? Well, there isn’t a way to predict an earthquake. They happen suddenly, and you’ll need to react quickly. According to Ready.gov, If you’re in bed, turn over and cover your head with a pillow. If you’re outdoors, try to stay away from buildings. If you’re inside, stay in place and take cover under take cover under a sturdy desk or table, covering your head and neck with your arms. You’ll also want to expect aftershocks, so be prepared for those. ©Ready.gov After, watch out for falling debris. If you’re in a damaged building, leave if you can. If you’re trapped, send a text or bang on a wall or pipe. If you’re somewhere where tsunamis could happen, immediately seek higher ground or go further inland. Once you are safe, pay attention to local news sources to see what you should do next. 18. When it comes to traveling, it’s important to stay safe! Grand Floridian Resort Here at DFB, we have people at the Disney Parks every. single. day. We travel to parks around the world, to cruises, and we have one team member who traveled full-time as a digital nomad for the past two years! That means we know a thing or two about traveling — since we all do it SO often! We always want to prioritize our safety, and we have come up with some things that we ALWAYS do when we get to our hotel room to make sure all is well before settling in and getting rest for the big day ahead of us. Whether or not you’re traveling for work or taking your annual trip to Disney World — take these tips, use what you’d like, and most importantly — stay safe! To start, we want to talk about things that will help ensure your safety as much as possible throughout your hotel stay. Let people know you’re traveling. This is IMPORTANT. Letting people know that you’re going out of town, telling them where you’re going, and giving them the address to your hotel can add another level of safety before you even get to your destination. Let’s fly! Make sure you tell someone you trust, and who you check in with often. If you’re comfortable doing so, you could even share your location with a close family member or friend so that someone is aware of where you are at all times. That varies from person to person, and you should only do what you’re comfortable with — but at least let someone know you’re heading out of town and update them regularly. Locate your nearest set of stairs. In case of an emergency happening at the hotel, it’s important that you know where the nearest set of stairs is in relation to your room. Shades of Green During some emergencies, the elevators are shut down so EVERYONE will be directed towards the stairs. To avoid any confusion and (hopefully) a crowd all trying to go down the stairs at once, locate them before you even get to your room so that you’re prepared if an emergency happens — it is better to be safe than sorry, y’all! Check different areas of your room for intruders. What is the likelihood of you finding an intruder in your hotel room? Well, the odds of it are pretty slim but it isn’t unheard of. To practice safety, take a few seconds when you walk into your room to check areas like closets and showers. It’s even easier to check showers that have glass doors! If you have a suite with multiple rooms, make sure you take a peek in all of the rooms as well as whatever hidey holes (is that a word? it is now) it could have. The main goal with this is to avoid Freddy Krueger lurking in your room — and it only takes a few seconds to do! Do ALL the things to keep your door shut. We know that all hotel room doors lock automatically when you shut them, but we like to use some other methods of ensuring your door stays shut overnight. Lock it! Make sure you use the swinging bar lock to add that extra layer of security. Along with that, we also like to bring rubber stoppers to put under the door so that the only way you can get the door open is from inside. Don’t let strangers inside. One of the first lessons we learn as a child is “stranger danger” — and that lesson is VERY important if you’re traveling. If someone is knocking on your door, make sure you verify who they are before opening it. If they say they’re an employee of the hotel but you didn’t make any calls about anything to the hotel, call the front desk and ask them about why that person is there and if they’re legit. If they are really a hotel employee, they’ll get it. Don’t be afraid to call! Another person who may come up to your hotel room is a food delivery driver. If you order from Doordash, GrubHub, or any other food delivery service — make sure you select the option that has them leave it at the door. Before opening the door to retrieve your food, check the peephole to make sure they’re gone before opening the door to grab your meal. The front desk can help We know traveling is fun and exciting, but it is also important to stay safe while doing so — ESPECIALLY if you’re traveling alone. Hopefully, these tips help you feel more prepared. Now, go enjoy your trip — but remember to stay safe! 20. Southwest Airlines announced that they have new seats coming to their planes! ©Southwest As exciting as that sounds, the internet HATED them! The roasting commenced on TikTok over the new seats that were being designed by RECARO, a company that specializes in motorsport racing and gaming seats. Well, now another airline has brought some refreshing to its plane’s cabins and we have to tell ya, these updates seem much more well received. Delta just announced an improved First Class seat that will be brought to select Boeing 737-800 aircraft starting this month. Unlike the new Southwest seats, these new Delta seats look fancy! These seats have technically been around since 2022 on the airline’s A321neo aircraft, but will now be debuted on the Boeing 737-800 as well. The seats offer more privacy, more storage space, and a sturdier tray table. Plus, they’re just all around more comfortable. ©Delta First Class isn’t the only part of the cabin receiving an upgrade. Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin seating on some Boeing 737-800 aircraft will also have upgrades. New 10-in Panasonic screens will be added to the seat backs and the lavatories will be upgraded to add touchless features. ©Delta If you plan to take a long flight, you’ll be happy to learn that the Airbus A350-900s will be adding eight more lie-flat suites! This will bring the aircraft up to 40 Delta One Suites, 40 Delta Premium Select cabin seats, 36 extra legroom seats in Delta Comfort+, and 159 Main Cabin seats. These upgraded A350-900s will enter the fleet for service in Summer 2024. ©Delta Delta is excited to bring us these new upgrades, and we’re excited that the internet isn’t outraged over them because these seats sure look comfy! 25. Y’all, we just heard about something and we don’t know how to feel… so we need opinions. In recent years, the average person’s preferences have been leaning away from cola-based products and more toward water, sports drinks, seltzers, and flavored sodas. This is a problem for Coca-Cola, as their sales have been declining with this shift. To combat this, they just announced a NEW FLAVOR of coke — and it’s spiced. We think this warrants a discussion. So sit back, relax, and let’s talk about this. According to CNN, sales of Coca-Cola have been declining. They have spent some time over the last few years playing with different flavors and selling them for a limited time — but nothing has ever been permanently added to the lineup… until now. ©Coca-Cola On February 19th, they are officially releasing Coca-Cola Spiced for everyone to try. One of the biggest questions we had was “What does that even mean?!”, because — let’s be real, spiced could mean a lot of different things. Thermal Detonator Coke Well, according to Coca-Cola, this new addition will have the flavor profile of raspberry combined with other spiced flavors. We’re not quite sure what “spiced flavors” means, but we’re excited to try it regardless. Coke Freestyle Machines This flavor was created to hop on the trend that big soda companies are noticing about consumers — that they’re looking for bolder, and punchier flavors. They decided to stick with raspberry because that was the flavor addition that was selected over 5 million times on their Freestyle drink machines. ©Coca-Cola When this flavor releases, it’ll be joining the ranks of Cherry Coke, Coke Vanilla, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, and — of course, original Coca-Cola. They will be selling it in cans and bottles of various sizes. So, if you’re looking to give this creation a try, head to your local grocery store on February 19th and pick up a bottle. Don’t forget to let us know what you think of it! We need ALL of the opinions on this new flavor. Coca-Cola We aren’t sure what this new flavor will taste like, but we’re excited to give it a try regardless. This sounds like a bold new flavor — and we’re so ready for it. We’ll be keeping an eye on this new flavor and seeing what people think of it, so keep checking in with us to see what we find next! 5 Disney World Snack HACKS $5 Or Less!
