A recent theme park incident is making headlines. In Portland, Oregon, a group of guests at a local theme park called Oaks Park were trapped on a ride for approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Credit: KGW/KTVZ When the incident occurred on June 14th, 2024, Portland firefighters responded to the scene and helped dozens of people trapped upside down on a ride called AtmosFEAR. According to local Oregon news affiliate KTVZ, 28 riders were stuck upside down on AtmosFEAR for about 25–30 minutes. Theme park employees reportedly were quick to initiate the emergency procedures and immediately called 911. The ride is described on the Oaks Park website as a “showstopping extreme attraction” and is one of its most popular rides. The attraction is two rides in one, and riders can choose between the “over-the-top thrill of the 360° ride or choose the 180° ride for a pendulum experience.” ©Oaks Park KTVZ reported that Portland Fire and Rescue manually lowered the ride. Everyone on the attraction was evacuated and medically evaluated. Additionally, Oaks Park explained that “One rider with pre-existing medical conditions was transported to the hospital for further evaluation, out of an abundance of caution.” You can read the park’s full statement below. Two riders, Daniel Allen and Jordan Harding, told KTVZ that they visited Oaks Park that day to celebrate their high school graduation. Harding said that people were crying and panicked, adding, “I’m not even religious, and I said a prayer. I didn’t think I was going to live to see right now,” per KTVZ. ©Oaks Park According to the Oaks Park statement, the ride will remain closed until further notice. The company is in contact with the manufacturer and state inspectors to identify the issue. ©Oaks Park In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so stay tuned for more. Disney World’s character meals are some of our favorite dining experiences! Hollywood & Vine There are lots of restaurants for adults to enjoy by themselves like California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Narcoosee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and many more. But character meals offer a special kid-approved dining option that we adults love just as much. They are great places to interact with the characters one-on-one and get some special entertainment, too, while enjoying your meal. We recently headed over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to enjoy a special a character breakfast at Hollywood and Vine! Hollywood and Vine offers not one, but TWO different character meal options! For breakfast, you can dine with Disney Jr. characters while Minnie and her friends are waiting to hang out with you for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located next to Echo Lake and 50’s Prime Time Café. We stopped by for breakfast at this restaurant and had SO much fun! Atmosphere As we mentioned above, Hollywood & Vine is located in the Echo Lake section of the park, right next door to the 50s Prime Time Cafe. This is currently the only restaurant in Disney World where you meet different characters depending on which meal you attend. Let’s go to breakfast! Inside the restaurant, you’ll find a mix of tables and booths throughout. There’s enough space in the floor area for the characters to move around and meet people. Inside the dining room There are also some different decorations up on the posts throughout the restaurant. This meal is known officially as the “Disney Junior Play ‘n’ Dine” breakfast. Decorations around the restaurant And of course, there are four characters you traditionally meet during your meal! Doc McStuffins is here to fix any ouches… Doc McStuffins …Fancy Nancy is ready to entertain us with her spectacular dance moves… Fancy Nancy! …and Vampirina always likes to make us laugh! You can also meet Goofy during this meal. Vampirina Now that we’ve toured the restaurant, let’s talk about the menu! Menu Hollywood & Vine is a buffet meal all day long, and they’ve got quite the spread for breakfast. Pastries First, there’s a large display of breads and pastries, as well as butter and jam. Anyone want a bagel? Bagels Some of the pastry selection includes cinnamon rolls, muffins, and danishes. More pastries After that, you’ll come across the bowl foods, AKA grits and oatmeal! You can top these dishes however you’d like. Want to fill up a bowl? And of course, they have a selection of fruits and salads for those who want something a little bit healthier. Fruit This is also the spot where you’ll find granola, guacamole, and hard-boiled eggs. Cold bar Making our way over to the hot foods, we’ve got Disney’s iconic cheesy breakfast potatoes. We LOVE getting these at breakfast buffets! Cheesy Potatoes And we can’t skip on the sausage or scrambled eggs! Eggs and sausage One item that was popular during our visit was the Egg White Frittata, and it’s sandwiched in the line next to a heaping platter of bacon. Egg White Frittata and Bacon For you plant-based eaters out there, try the Plant-Based Frittata with Tomato Jam. This is a bit of a lighter option. Plant-Based Frittata with Tomato Jam Or if you’ve got a sweet tooth, scoop up a healthy portion of French toast with banana topping! French toast The buffet was also home to eggs benedict… Eggs Benedict …Salmon and Bagel Casserole… Salmon and Bagel Casserole …and these tiny Spicy Chicken & Doughnut skewers. They look delicious! Spicy Chicken & Doughnut It wouldn’t be a Disney breakfast without a bit of corned beef hash… Corned Beef Hash …or a platter of biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and Gravy And last but not least was the smoked sausage, peppers, and onion skillet. Smoked Sausage, Peppers, and Onions There’s also a small kids’ buffet that really anyone can snag eats from. They had Mickey waffles, tater tots, and pancakes. Kids Buffet Did you think we forgot about dessert? No siree! They served both a seasonal bread pudding… Seasonal Bread Pudding …as well as an apple crisp! How do we choose just one?! Good thing we don’t have to! Apple Crisp For anyone who wants the basics, they’ve got a cereal bar with three different choices. Cereal And to top off your meal, there’s an ice cream machine! Ice Cream! You can top your ice cream with sprinkles, chocolate syrup, or caramel syrup. Toppings! Now let’s make a plate and dig in! Eats Our plate! Of course, one of the first things we tried was the Bananas Foster French Toast, which was shockingly good for a buffet option. The brioche French toast was nice and soft and had a great amount of cinnamon and powdered sugar and the bananas foster sauce reminded us of the center of a cinnamon roll — gooey and sweet. The one complaint is that we wish the edges of the French toast were cooked a little bit longer. So many yummy eats! The Spicy Chicken & Doughtnut Skewer was one of our favorite parts of the meal! The doughnut was sweet and soft but nothing overly special. The chicken was fresh and juicy and truly was slightly spicy! We would say even a bit more than the traditional “Disney spice.” This was one of the only items we went back for to get seconds. Had to get the chicken and doughnut! The other items were pretty standard Disney breakfast buffet fare, from Mickey waffles to traditional pastries. The meats (bacon and sausage) were also delicious, and pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a buffet. One thing that’s nice about the buffet at Hollywood & Vine is that they have an omelet bar with plenty of customizable selections. We felt like the buffet here trended towards more “healthy” options than other Disney breakfast buffets, with tons of fruit, egg white frittatas, chicken patties, and more. YUM And of course, we can’t forget the ice cream machine! Who doesn’t want to finish their breakfast with a sundae?! It’s pretty basic Disney ice cream but it’s fun because you have the option for unlimited servings. Dessert! So how did we feel about this meal overall? Overall All in all, we were pleasantly surprised by this meal! We didn’t have the highest of expectations because breakfast buffets are often fairly basic, but we enjoyed nearly everything we ate, with some standouts like the French toast and the Spicy Chicken & Doughnut skewer. Autograph Card If you’ve got any Disney Junior fans in your family, this is a MUST. The characters were a lot of fun, even when visiting as an adult who doesn’t watch their TV shows, so we can only imagine what it must be like with kiddos who love them! Nosh or Not? Make a breakfast ressie for Hollywood & Vine if… You have a Disney Junior fan. This meal is PRICELESS for fans of Vampirina, Fancy Nancy, or Doc McStuffins. You can currently only meet those characters in Hollywood Studios at Animation Courtyard, so having a meal with them as well will be extra special. The other dining options in Hollywood Studios don’t sound appealing. We’ll level with you — Hollywood Studios doesn’t have the besssst dining in Disney World. We’re fans of 50s Prime Time Cafe and The Hollywood Brown Derby, but if neither of those sound good to you, this is a great third spot for a sit-down meal. You want to eat a LOT. Buffets, man. BUFFETS. Skip this spot and grab breakfast on the go if… You’re on a tight budget. This isn’t a cheap meal ($47 per adult and $30 per child) so if you’re wanting something budget-friendly, we suggest looking elsewhere. You don’t have a connection with the characters. If you don’t want Disney Junior shows, it’s a little harder to connect with the characters. Instead, maybe try coming here for lunch or dinner to meet Minnie Mouse and friends! It’s no secret that Cast Members are the heart and soul of Disney World, and it takes a lot of Cast Members to keep Disney World running. Bartenders at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto We’ve seen The Walt Disney Company and unions representing Cast Members have heated negotiations before, although all parties involved generally do come to agreements at some point. This is why many Cast Member groups end up voting to unionize to get unions to make demands for better pay and working conditions. Now, a union representing tipped workers at Disney World is making new demands on those workers’ behalf. The Tipped Committee at Unite Here 737 union is demanding changes for servers, bartenders, and other tipped workers employed at Disney World. A demand letter was issued that stated that tipped workers are “dedicated professionals with decades of experience” and that they spend more time with guests than any other Cast Members in Disney World. The letter also mentioned how the career has taken a toll on their bodies and how “tipped jobs should provide a stable career that can support a family.” 50s Prime Time Cafe Servers The letter, which was signed by servers for Disney World restaurants like Be Our Guest, Nomad Lounge, Tony’s Town Square, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and many more, states that the future of tipped careers for both full-time and part-time Cats Members “is threatened by the Company’s decision to move in the direction of an over-staffed, Part-Time workforce.” The letter also states that they won’t wait until 2027 contract negotiations to make these demands. Tony’s Town Square Restaurant The letter consists of many demands, including a guaranteed 20% gratuity on every guest check for all tipped workers, regardless of party size, with an additional tip line for customers who want to tip more. The letter also points out that Disney’s allergy process puts too much time, work, and risk on tipped workers and demands a clear and fair allergy process across all locations and zero reprimands for Cast Members when it’s out of their control. Specifically, the demand letter addressed the problem by calling Disney’s allergy process “Out of control. It puts too much time, work, and risk on tipped workers.” Be Our Guest The union also demands that part-time Cast members receive health insurance. There are also demands involving scheduling, suspensions and reinstatements, server assistants, and outsourcing food and beverage locations to third parties. There’s also a specific demand for bartenders to “negotiate a well-defined ratio of bartenders to available bar stools, ” as well as raising bartenders’ hourly pay to $19 per hour for all hours. La Cava Bartenders hard at work Other demands involve cocktail servers, while there’s a lengthy section about how Disney has shifted to having a majority of a part-time tipped workforce. According to the letter, 45% of tipped jobs were full-time in 2011, with 55% being part-time. In 2024, there are 34% full-time tipped workers vs. 63% part-time. The demands include keeping positions full-time when a full-time employee leaves that position, creating 300 more full-time tipped positions, guaranteeing at least three shifts per week for part-time workers, and implementing the “Schedule by Seniority” pilot in all locations. Disney World is known for being the most magical place on earth. But…did you know it could also be the most chaotic? So Magical! Yup, even good ‘ol Disney World suffers from chaos and mayhem. From souvenir throw-downs to toe-crushing strollers (ouch!), we had our readers tell us all about their most chaotic moments at the parks, and here’s what they said. The TTC when one park closes early and everyone is trying to get to the other park I think everyone can agree that the TTC (Transportation & Ticket Center) is chaotic in general. Whether it’s at park opening or park close, it can be overwhelming with the amount of people trying to shuffle into into line for a monorail. But what’s a little worse? The TTC when one of the parks is closing early and EVERYONE is trying to get to another park. Disney’s Transportation & Ticket Center Parks can close for a number of reasons, like exclusive events such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, or for Cast Member events. Whatever the reason, you can expect a massive crowd, maybe even more than the ones at the park opening or closing, since people enter and leave the parks at different times. But if the park closes early, then you can expect a flock of people to be herded out all at once. To avoid this, we suggest checking to see when a park will close earlier than usual and perhaps choosing to go to another park that day instead to avoid the chaos. Three words… New Year’s Eve Holidays are a BIG DEAL at Disney World, but arguably one of the biggest is New Year’s Eve. And understandably so, because who wouldn’t want to ring in the new year at the most magical place on earth? And that’s exactly where the issues lie, according to some of our readers. Silent Disco New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest days at the parks, especially at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. From Silent discos to fireworks over Cinderella Castle, there are so many spectacular things going on (and so many people don’t want to risk the FOMO!). So of course, crowds are going to be HUGE, causing the parks to reach capacity quickly. You can expect to wait in long lines for attractions, Genie+ can sell out in an instant, and some people stake out spots for parades and fireworks hours in advance. New Year’s is not for the faint of heart, especially if you’re a first-time parkgoer. But if you really want to participate in the New Year festivities at Disney World (we get it, the heart wants what it wants), then we suggest you make a game plan: Get to the parks early, purchase Genie+ at midnight, and make a list of all the things you want to prioritize most. If you go in with a plan, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and like you’ve been thrown to the New-Year-Party wolves. October 1st, 2021. Emporium at Magic Kingdom You’re probably thinking “Well that’s really specific”, but one of our readers, Chris from South Carolina, details the day to a T. “It was like a sliding puzzle of 50th-anniversary merchandise. Items breaking as they got bumped off shelves. I finally got out and just gave up on finding a souvenir.” 50th Anniversary Merch at Magic Kingdom Well, Chris, we’re sorry you didn’t get to take a 50th-anniversary souvenir home, but we truly felt your pain. When Disney released the 50th-anniversary collection at their parks, it was like PANDEMONIUM (I specifically remember witnessing people clawing over one another for the collection’s Starbucks tumbler). Disney merch is beloved by many, and if it’s a part of a one-of-a-kind collection, you can expect chaos when going through the shelves. Our way of avoiding this? The Disney Store‘s official website typically releases many park exclusive merch items online (and sometimes, even with a discount!). So, to avoid any potential scuffles for a t-shirt, we recommend purchasing online for a smoother experience, and a guarantee of getting that item you were eyeing. A stroller unsupervised with a baby sleeping in it When we read what our reader, Jerie, commented, we. were. SHOCKED.“A stroller with a sleeping baby in it while parents were on Splash Mountain. The stroller was left along the stroller area with only rope net separating you from the river water.” Umm…WHAT?We think it should go without saying that small children should never be left unsupervised at the parks. There are a lot of potentially dangerous situations that can occur if an adult isn’t supervising the child. We do recognize that in some cultures, children are left unsupervised in situations that aren’t deemed acceptable in the United States and that can sometimes cause confusion. But know that your young children should always be supervised in Disney World. The rules are that children under 14 should not be unaccompanied in the parks — and children under 7 are not allowed to ride attractions alone. Splash Mountain is now Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom If you’re at Disney World and want to ride an attraction that your child can’t ride yet, we heavily suggest trying Rider Switch. With this option, one adult can stay with the child while the rest of the group enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can take over supervising the child, allowing the waiting adult to ride the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again. This is available at all 4 parks, just make sure to let a Cast Member know before entering the queue so they can confirm if the option is available at that specific attraction. Strollers. AHHHHHHH. The amount of comments we got about strollers running people over was astronomical. And although we got a good chuckle out of them, we do, in fact, have a new fear of strollers. Watch those strollers! Strollers can easily go from being an aid to becoming a menace. We recommend always keeping an eye on where you’re leading your stroller and never walking with it mindlessly. You can end up being in very crowded areas and your stroller can easily hit someone’s ankles or crush a toe or two, so just be mindful of where you’re strolling, and the same applies if you’re walking and see a stroller by you. That way everyone can live happily ever after with no stroller incidents. And there you go, some of the most chaotic things our readers have ever seen at Disney World! A BIG thanks to all our readers for letting us know their thoughts and personal stories, you definitely made our day. Yes, we’re sweating bullets here in Florida right now because it’s summer, so, of COURSE, we’re dreaming of the holidays, when things are a little cooler and there’s holiday magic in the air. ©Disney That means we’re thinking ahead to things like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom, but we’re also looking forward to Jollywood Nights, a holiday event in Disney’s Hollywood Studios that premiered last year. We had the opportunity to attend Jollywood Nights in 2023, and we think the party has a LOT of potential. The entertainment was top-notch, and now we have a clue as to what kind of entertainment to expect in 2024. We often check the Disney auditions notices because they usually offer a good clue as to what kind of entertainment we’ll be seeing in the future in Disney Parks. A NEW audition notice was posted recently for Seasonal Dancers for Jollywood Nights. ©Disney Here’s what makes this notice so exciting, though: the audition notice is about an “all-new stage show rooted in the glitz and glamor of vintage Hollywood television specials, with a contemporary twist of Disney holiday magic.” It’s set to take place at Theatre of the Stars. Special guests will include Kermit and Miss Piggy, but there will also be appearances by Tiana, Belle, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey Mouse. They’ll be joined by a cast of singers, dancers, and live jazz musicians. Jollywood Nights So we’re not sure this show is all-new because we watched a show fitting this description at Jollywood Nights last year (and it was the BEST SHOW EVER). So we’re not sure if the show from last year got re-tooled, but we DO know a show will be happening at Theatre of the Stars again during the party. It’s Kermit and Miss Piggy! Disney has not yet revealed any other details about holiday happenings this year, including Jollywood Nights, but it looks like Disney World is already preparing for the holiday season. We’re looking forward to seeing what Disney World has in store for the holiday season of 2024, which also includes EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays. EPCOT underwent a major transformation, ending with the grand opening of CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza. It was a pretty big deal — these final stages of the project signaled the end of a years-long undertaking. But wait — just when we thought the construction walls were gone for good, Disney went and did, well, this. EPCOT The time has come. Test Track, a super popular EPCOT attraction featuring fast cars and unique designs, is closing for refurbishment. But this isn’t any regular old refurbishment. No, Test Track could look VERY different the next time it opens. Let’s talk about it. It’s no secret that EPCOT has received a MASSIVE overhaul over the last few years. Some projects, like the Mary Poppins ride and the Play Pavilion, quietly died. But many others, including things like Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana, the World Celebration Gardens, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, are still SUPER popular! Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure And, of course, most recently, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza opened on June 10th. But, alas. After all that construction, EPCOT will be wall-less for only about one week. CommuniCore Hall opened June 10th Get ready for more CHANGES! Test Track is closing TOMORROW — June 17th! What for? A major renovation is coming! Test Track will get a NEW (third) iteration, complete with some nods to the old ride! Reimagining concept art ©Disney The ride will be sponsored by Chevrolet. General Motors, the parent company of Chevrolet, has been a long-time sponsor of this pavilion — ever since the attraction was called World of Motion! Disney announced that both Disney Imagineers and teams from Chevrolet will be working together to reach back into history to reimagine this ride. ©Disney In fact, the new reimagining will be inspired by the ORIGINAL attraction that came BEFORE Test Track called World of Motion. This old attraction took you on a “time travel journey through the history of transportation.” 4 BIG CLUES About the Test Track OVERHAUL in EPCOT The ride system was different than Test Track’s current coaster-like system. In fact, World of Motion was an Omnimover system, like Haunted Mansion. Test Track We can’t wait to see what Imagineers create this time! Could we see some of those iconic crash-test characters return? Maybe a new ride system? We’ll have to wait and see! Test Track If you want to say one final goodbye to Test Track, go visit EPCOT before the attraction closes on June 17th! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Disney Fans’ Expectations for the New Test Track! Magic Kingdom is going through a LOT of change: not only is there a big Magic Kingdom expansion in the works, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens on June 28th and Country Bear Jamboree reopens with a brand new show on July 17th. But that’s not all — another big change is coming to Magic Kingdom soon. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade We’re just going to warn you now: you’ll want to be saying goodbye to the Shootin’ Arcade soon. Why? Because we have confirmed it will be closing sometime later this year. For good. As in permanently. Yep, Disney is closing the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade to make room for something new: a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member lounge. No more shootin’ Now, this is probably great news for DVC members who would love to have a nice place to relax and enjoy some complimentary drinks and snacks in the middle of the chaos that is Magic Kingdom. And that’s great! But many folks will be a little sad that an opening day attraction is being shuttered. Still, change is very much a part of the original concept of Disney parks — so we’ll adapt! And we have to admit that a Frontierland-themed DVC lounge could be a lot of fun! DVC Member Lounge at EPCOT Click here to find out more details about being a DVC member! The Walt Disney Company is certainly no stranger to lawsuits. ©Disney Recently the company has faced lawsuits from Cast Members and Disney Parks visitors, as well as a lawsuit concerning the company’s new sports streaming service. Disney was also recently sued by Disneyland Magic Key holders, which ended in Disney agreeing to settle. A judge ordered a settlement in that lawsuit and details were finalized. Now, those details have been released about when Magic Key holders can get their payout from that settlement. To backtrack, a $9.5 million class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of Disneyland Magic Key holders claiming that Disneyland misled those who purchased the Dream Key pass by limiting capacity and restricting reservations to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, although that pass offered the promise of “no blockout dates.” Disneyland A final judgment was ordered on March 4th, and as a result, 103,431 Dream Key holders will get about $67 each. Those Magic Key holders should have received a notice from a settlement administrator via email or regular mail. According to The New York Times, those payments will begin going out this month. ©D23 Dream Key pass holders should receive a payment of around $67.41 by either email or electronically starting in mid-June (aka, as in SOON). Those receiving payments should have already chosen their preferred payment type. The lawsuit’s plaintiff, who paid $1,300 for the pass, will receive a $5,000 payment. Magic Key Popcorn Bucket The Dream Key pass has since been discontinued and is no longer available. In addition to theme park admission, the pass also offered up to 15% discounts on select Disneyland Resort restaurants and 20% off select Disneyland merchandise. Magic Key Holder Hat In the meantime, sales are paused for all Magic Key passes, although renewals are still being allowed. Passes are limited, so sales won’t reopen again until there’s more availability. If you were hoping to get a Magic Key pass, you’ll just have to wait. We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. We’ve gotta hurry since your Disney World trip is almost here and, we’ve got a bunch to talk about! Cinderella Castle For our conversation today, we need to talk about the essentials you’re going to pack for the trip. We have been going to and reporting on Disney World for over 15 years and we have been in the parks every. single. day. for over 5 years. We polled our team to see what they always pack when going to Disney World. Here is that list of essentials! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Remember, you can get free, fast shipping with an Amazon Prime membership, so sign up for a FREE trial below. Shop this Disney Mickey Mouse Washed Baseball Cap ©Amazon First up, if you didn’t know Florida is a bright and sunny place, and Disney World is doubly so since there is a clear lack of shading around the parks. So one of the things we always recommend is that you protect yourself from all that sun exposure and one of the easiest ways to do that is by popping on a hat! If you’re going to wear one, you should choose one that’s comfortable and rocking your favorite Disney character like this one! View on Amazon Shop this Disney Winnie The Pooh Bucket Hat ©Amazon Now, a bucket hat is going to give you even more sun protection than a baseball cap due to its wide brim, so you may want to pick up one of these! That’s especially true if you love Pooh (I mean who doesn’t?). View on Amazon Rain Ponchos 2-Pack Clear Rain Jacket Next, since we’ve been talking about Florida, let’s talk about how Florida has this habit of dumping rain on you every single afternoon. If you’re going to be outside and don’t want to get soaked, you should definitely invest in a quality pair of reusable ponchos. Since they fold down so small and tight, they’re a perfect fit for even the smallest belt bags. We love ponchos like this one because you don’t have to pull it over your head and it’s made with a sturdy material. It also comes in a pack of 2, which is really nice! View on Amazon Shop this Sound Machine ©Amazon One of the things we use constantly at night in our hotel rooms is a sound machine. A lot of us just sleep better when we can have some white noise in the background and a machine like this one doubles as a sound machine and night light (which will keep you from stubbing your toes at night). The Disney World walls can be pretty thin, so this can really help with that! View on Amazon Shop this Loop Quiet Ear Plugs ©Amazon If white noise, or any noise for that matter, keeps you wide awake at night, what you’d want to look into is a quality set of earplugs. These ones are reusable, soft, and comfortable which is music to our ears. View on Amazon Shop these FuelRods FuelRods Just put it in your mind that you’re going to go through a LOT of power when you’re at Disney World and it’s because you have to do everything with your phone. If you don’t come prepared with a portable charger (or two) there’s a chance you might run out of juice before the end of your day. Save yourself all kinds of headaches and make sure you’re prepared with portable chargers like these Fuel Rods which you can swap out at a TON of locations throughout the parks for freshly topped off ones. We like to buy ours on Amazon because you basically get two for the price you’d pay for one in the parks! View on Amazon Shop this Portable Neck Fan Portable Neck Fan In addition to protecting yourself from the sun, you’re going to need to keep yourself cool (again Florida gets hot!). We love our portable neck fans as they give you hands-free cooling and depending on your setting, you can get up to 16 hours of use per charge. View on Amazon Shop these Disney x Kitsch Heatless Hair Curlers for Overnight Curls ©Amazon What do you do if you want to multitask while you sleep? If that’s you and you’d like to work on getting some curls in your hair while you sleep, you need to check out these heatless curlers by Kitsch. They’ll give you the curls you’re looking for all while you sleep. Also, these are wrapped in satin so you can be sure they won’t cause unnecessary damage to your hair. View on Amazon Shop this Supergoop! (Re)setting 100% Mineral Powder, Makeup Setting Powder + Broad Spectrum SPF ©Amazon When it comes to protecting our skin, we try not to play any games (as you can tell by how much we talk about it!). This SPF powder from Supergoop! is perfect for setting your makeup and giving you that SPF protection you need. It’s also really handy for reapplying SPF to your face when you’ve got a full face of makeup. View on Amazon Shop this Mickey Mouse Ear Headband for Adults ©Disney Last up, there’s just something iconic about making sure to pack at least one pair of Mickey ears for the trip. Ones like this one are just straight to the point and a perfect fit with most of your outfits for the park. There are a lot of things popular tourist destinations have to do to manage the number of visitors they see each day. Cinderella Castle For many sites, including Disney parks, this includes things like continuously building new attractions, making sure existing ones are staying updated and relevant, making sure there are enough dining locations and seating areas to accommodate guests, and especially, making sure there are plenty of bathrooms to go around. Well, one popular tourist destination has just done something controversial with their bathrooms — they’ve added timers. Yungang Buddhist Grottoes in China is a wondrous spectacle, featuring 51,000 statues carved into 252 caves and niches that are around 1,500 years old. Its incredible sights make it a massively popular tourist attraction that continues to grow. They just had their highest attendance ever in 2023 at 3 million visitors, which means that some changes are to make sure the site is ready for that many guests, according to CNN. ©Getty Images In recent years, the site has added new shows and mini attractions inside the area to boost appeal (and it’s seemed to work very well), but now they’ve added something we’ve never seen before and don’t know how we feel about — toilet timers. ©Getty Images Yes, since May 1st, there are digital timers above each stall in the women’s restroom that count how long the guest has been in there in minutes and seconds. If the stall is free, it says the word “EMPTY” in green. The visitor who originally took the video and sent it into a local newspaper, the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, said that they “found it quite advanced technologically so you don’t have to queue outside or knock on a bathroom door” but that they also “found it a little bit embarrassing. It felt like I was being monitored.” ©Weibo A staff member at the attraction told the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald that the timers were installed to help cope with the increase in visitors, and assured readers that no one is going to be kicked out of the bathroom at any time. There is no time limit on the bathrooms, and no one is controlling how long you’re in a stall for. They also were quoted saying the timers are a safety measure, “ensuring the well-being of all guests, in case some guests use the toilet for an extended period and an emergency occurs.” ©Getty Images The change has been met with differing opinions, some saying they think it’ll discourage visitors from sitting in a stall and scrolling on their phones, while others have asked why the attraction doesn’t just spend money to build more washrooms. ©Getty Images While we mostly update you on Disney news, we also do our best to keep you updated on various interesting news from around the world, such as this, so stay tuned to DFB! It’s no secret that celebrities love Disney World as much as we do. Partner’s Statue Now, maybe they’re not just like us because they usually get to do cool things like get their own tables at their favorite bar (Neil Patrick Harris, we’re looking at you), get escorted around the park by VIP tour guides, and have probably never had to wait in a long line for a ride in their lives. But they still love Disney, so at least that’s relatable, right? We’ve seen a few celebrities recently having fun at The Most Magical Place on Earth, including Sydney Sweeney and Charlize Theron, but now ANOTHER celebrity has posted photos from a recent Disney World trip. Okay, Gleeks, this one is for you, because you’ll remember Harry Shum, Jr. from his stint on Glee. Of course, he’s also on Grey’s Anatomy and was in the award-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once, as well as Crazy Rich Asians and the Shadowhunters TV series (which is currently on Hulu if you want to check it out). Shum recently visited Disney World and shared photos with him having some magical fun with friends! ©Harry Shum, Jr. Shum noted that he hadn’t visited Disney World since he was five years old, but that his recent trip made him feel five years old all over again and that Disney World “still has it.” (We know!) ©Harry Shum, Jr. One of the photos shows Shum frolicking with his friends beside Cinderella Castle (it makes us feel like frolicking, too — we get it!). ©Harry Shum, Jr. Another photo was taken in front of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT‘s France Pavilion. We like the addition of the Remy shoulder plush here. ©Harry Shum, Jr. Along with a photo of the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom, Shum also posted a photo of him getting ready to board Flight of Passage. ©Harry Shum, Jr. He also posted a photo of something we’re always obsessed with: Disney ducks! ©Harry Shum, Jr. It certainly looks like Shum had a great time, but who wouldn’t, right? We always enjoy seeing celebrities in Disney World having the time of their lives and rediscovering that magic that we always see when we’re there, too. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Disney World is filled with so much magic, it’s called the Most Magical Place on Earth for a reason! Welcome to the Most Magical Place on Earth! Getting to finally ride a new attraction like TRON Lightcycle / Run in the Magic Kingdom or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT can be so exciting, but we also like the little things around the parks. We asked our Disney World-loving team here at DFB what odd things in Disney World boost their serotonin, and some of these answers you might even relate to! Our team is in the parks every day, so we tend to notice all the little things. When we see them, it reminds us of why we love Disney World so much and the happiness it can bring to people! We compiled a list of eight odd but instant serotonin boosts around the parks. Cinderella Castle Getting Pixie-Dusted Getting pixie dusted is not just for young princesses and princes but also for kids at heart too! Did you know that you could get pixie-dusted for FREE? Sir Mickey’s Gift Shop Right behind the castle in Fantasyland, you will find Sir Mickey’s, here, you can ask a Cast Member if they could pixie dust you. Sometimes you might already see a Cast Member pixie-dusting another person, and you can politely wait behind them and ask to be pixie-dusted as well! Sir Mickey’s Gift Shop We know that it is just getting glitter sprinkled on your head, but it is also more than that. Seeing the smiles of someone getting pixie-dusted is priceless, and it is also a free memory to make! All it takes is faith, trust, and pixie dust! Seeing Our Favorite Wonky-Eyed Hippo We love classic rides like “it’s a small world!” so much that we have our favorite friends inside! “it’s a small world!” One of our favorites is the big purple hippo! We look forward to when we finally see her, and she winks at us! There she is! The next time you are in Magic Kingdom, make sure to go and see her! Our favorite Hippo! Passing by Attractions with History Magic Kingdom is home to many classic attractions, two of which actually used to exist in Disneyland, but they are now defunct. PeopleMover When we are walking through Tomorrowland and passing by the PeopleMover or the Carousel of Progress, we feel a sense of relief that they still exist in Disney World, and we are grateful that they are still here. Fall on Carousel of Progress Even if we don’t ride them, we are just glad to still see that these two amazing and history filled rides are still running at Disney World. This is our formal petition to Disney to never close these two attractions. Carousel of Progress The Smell of Pirates of the Caribbean Water We love that feeling when you get in the queue of Pirates of the Caribbean, and the air starts to feel more humid, and you can smell the wonderful scent of the attraction’s water. Pirates of the Caribbean That scent that you smell is actually Bromine, which Disney uses to keep the water clean on its water attractions. Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney World This is because bromine is not as harsh on your skin or clothing as chlorine is. Just like chlorine, it has a distinct scent that Disney lovers have come to associate with Disney World. Sometimes, we will be out in a mall, and we are drawn to the scent of a fountain because it reminds us of Disney World! People Watching on Main Street We go to Disney World every day, and people often ask us how we keep the magic alive. Sometimes, our answer is because we get to see Disney World through others’ eyes! Main Street When we visit the Magic Kingdom in our free time, we like to take a moment on Main Street and look around and take it all in. Taking in the sights! It is so special to see a family walk in and see the castle for the first time. Or to see a couple split a Mickey Bar. Or see a child’s face light up when they get to pick out a Mickey Balloon. Main Street Railroad Station Little moments like these are what make Disney World such a special place. Disney World Balloons Watching the Spaceship Earth Light Shows For Disney World’s 50th birthday, each of the four park icons got an upgrade to be “Beacons of Magic” at night. The 50th anniversary has come and gone, but one thing that stayed was the “Beacon of Magic,” at EPCOT and we are so glad it did! Cinderella Castle’s “Beacon of Magic” Spaceship Earth arguably got one of the biggest upgrades. Lights were installed all around the attraction, and with this addition came new light shows. Spaceship Earth at night No matter how many times we have seen them, we love to stop for a moment and admire them. With the music playing and the beautiful light displays, you can’t help but pause to take it all in. Spaceship Earth While we love each of the shows, we especially love the Muppets Rainbow Connection show during the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts! The Lovers, the Dreamers, and Me! The Tomorrowland Music Loop There is something about the Tomorrowland music loop that just makes us so happy! Especially the music that plays in Space Mountain’s Star Tunnel. It just tickles our brains in all the right ways! Space Mountain Even when we are not at Disney World, we are either writing about Disney World or even just thinking about Disney World. When we need background music to help us work, we like to play the Tomorrowland music loop in the background! Tomorrowland! Kind Words of Cast Members at the Animation Experience at Conservation Station Did you know that Magic Kingdom is not the only park with a train? You can actually take a train in Animal Kingdom to the Conservation Station. At the Conservation Station, you can partake in the Animation Experience and learn how to draw some of your favorite Disney characters! The Animation Experience One of our favorite parts of this experience is at the end when the Cast Member tells everyone that they did a great job on their first sketches. It may just be a simple compliment, but we can’t help but get all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that someone will always remember those kind words! The Animation Experience Even though we are always going to Disney World, there is still magic in the odd and little things around the resort, and they all give us a boost of serotonin! Are you thinking about planning a trip to Disney World? Magic Kingdom You have come to the right place! Here at DFB we know a thing or two about Disney World and we always want to share our knowledge with you! There is so much that goes into planning a trip to Disney World like travel, park tickets, hotel reservations, dining reservations, and transportation. We know it is a lot to think about, but we don’t want you to miss out on all the tips and tricks that can make your vacation even easier! We compiled a list of 50 things you need to know before you visit Disney World! Recently, we’ve been seeing a lot of guests get turned away when trying to use these Multi-experience Redemption Passes at rides that use the Individual Lightning Lane system. And that’s because those specific rides do not apply to the Multi-experience Redemption Pass, since they’re a separate cost that’s NOT included in your Genie+ purchase. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Also keep in mind that with Multi-experience Redemption Passes, you can only use them in the park where your original Lightning Lane was booked. For example, if you book a Lightning Lane for The Haunted Mansion and it closes down during your return window, you’ll have to select another ride at Magic Kingdom to use the multi-experience redemption pass for, even if you’re planning to hop to another park later on in the day. The Haunted Mansion 17. You Can Bring Luggage To The Parks If you don’t want to wait ONE SECOND getting to the Disney Parks once you touch down in Orlando, this new Disney World rule is going to make you VERY happy! You can go to the parks right away! You planned your trip and finally GOT here — either by plane, car, submarine, whatever — and now you’re here. FINALLY here. But if you wanna hit the ground RUNNING and head IMMEDIATELY to the parks once you arrive, then heading to your hotel to drop off your stuff might feel like you’re taking a huge chunk of time out of your day. Bell Services at Disney’s Polynesian Resort But guess what?? You don’t HAVE to do that. During a recent park visit, one of our reporters did some extra digging and discovered the process of checking luggage at — legit — the Disney Parks! You can bring your luggage to the Disney Parks! So if you’d like to grab an early morning flight and head straight to a park, here’s what you can expect: When you bring luggage to the Parks, you will get flagged over to a search area. We talked to security and sometimes the search will be done by security staff, and other times it will be conducted by a specially trained search dog. If the bags are small enough, you can head over to the locker rentals and rent a small locker (12″ x 10″ x 17″) for $10 per day, a large locker (15.5″ x 13″ x 17″) for $12 per day, or a jumbo locker (these fit bags under 17″ x 22″ x 26″ and are ONLY available at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT for $15 per day). EPCOT lockers For especially large luggage, Guest Relations told us that sometimes the Electric Conveyance Vehicles (EVC) rentals will hold larger items for guests but for a fee. Unlike the lockers, at the EVC rentals, you’re charged $10 per item, regardless of size. EVC and stroller rentals Each item then receives a special yellow tag. If you’re looking to save money but want to take this route, you can store your large suitcases at the ECV and stroller rental for $10 each and then consolidate your backpacks into a $15 large locker, which holds between three and four backpacks depending on size and how tightly you squeeze them in. 18. There Are HUNDREDS Of Places To Eat! AHHHHHH!!! Want a BIG comprehensive guide to all things Disney FOOD related? Well, lucky you — because that’s EXACTLY what the team and I have created to make sure YOU have the best time dining around the parks EVER. DFB Guide The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining is a 3 part digital book that’s split up to cover EVERYTHING you need to know before you head out for vacation: You’ve got the 101 Plan that covers the basics for an AMAZING Disney trip You’ve got the Printables & Resources — where you can find all the planning sheets, top lists, and guidance to tailor your vacation towards your specific wants and desires And you’ve got the Reference Guide — which is all the nitty gritty details that’ll give you more of a deep dive into Disney vacation planning. DFB Guide and Snacks Bundle 19. You May Want… Post-It Notes? There are a lot of benefits to self-flushing toilets. (The main one? Not having to touch the handle to flush. Hurray! Less germs) But some of these self-flushing toilets will sense any tiny movement and flush before you’ve even had a chance to stand up. And getting sprayed with toilet water did not make my list of must-dos in Disney World. Restrooms All jokes aside, this can be tough for parents who are still in the process of potty training their kiddos. That sudden loud “flush” is like a jumpscare even for me! If your kiddo is nervous when it comes to those self-flushing toilets, it’s not a bad idea to invest in some post-it notes. That way, you can cover the sensor without having to directly touch the sensor yourself. (Just don’t FLUSH the post-it note after. Make sure you’re throwing it away in the trash. Otherwise, you might wind up accidentally clogging a Disney toilet.) Post-It Note Typewriter And don’t forget — Practice makes perfect! It might be a good idea to track down a self-flushing toilet at your local mall or other local area and take it for a spin ahead of time! That way, you can get some self-flushing potty training practice in a low-stakes environment before your trip! Post-It Note Set 20. An EPCOT Dining Hack Let’s face it. When it’s hot in Disney World, the last thing you want to do is eat outside. But sometimes, it can’t be helped — especially at a lot of Disney World counter service locations that only offer outdoor seating. But believe it or not, ONE EPCOT counter service restaurant has SECRET indoor seating (as in AIR CONDITIONING) La Cantina de San Angel La Cantina de San Angel, over in the Mexico Pavilion, is pretty much the fastest way to get tacos and margaritas in this area of the park. Upon first glance, it appears like the only available seating at La Cantina de San Angel is outside. You’d mostly be right in assuming that, but — as it turns out — you can actually pick up your food at La Cantina de San Angel and sit INSIDE the nearby table service restaurant called La Hacienda de San Angel. La Hacienda de San Angel How?? Well, sometimes, La Cantina opens up a section of seating inside La Hacienda before the restaurant opens up so that there’s more seating available for everyone who dines there (freeing up the outdoor seating). So, if you get to La Cantina de San Angel early enough, you might be able to place your order and then grab your food and sit INSIDE this section of La Hacienda de San Angel. La Hacienda de San Angel 21. Take That Vital Extra Step With Your Good Neighbor Hotel MANY Good Neighbor Hotels are less expensive and still have the same hotel perks as Disney-owned resorts. But in order to ACCESS those hotel perks, you’re gonna need to make sure Disney associates your Good Neighbor Hotel booking with your My Disney Experience account. Drury Plaza Hotel near Disney Springs Simply, go to the Disney World website, click on the My Disney Experience tab, select the “My Plans” option from the drop-down menu, and log into your account. Click on the Resort Hotel and then choose to Link a Reservation. You’ll be asked to type in your last name and your hotel confirmation number. © DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando – Disney Springs Area 22. Don’t Fall For The “Fake” Lines Disney World hotels have a lot of perks that, for many people, ease the pain of that hefty price tag. Not only are you immersed in the Disney magic, but you can also use complimentary Disney transportation to get wherever you need to go. Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter With that being said, we have a MASSIVE gripe with some of those bus stops at select Disney World hotels. Because at some Disney World hotels, there really isn’t a physical LINE at the bus stops. What do we mean by that? Port Orleans Bus stop Let’s set the scene — you’re at Port Orleans Riverside waiting for the bus to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Your bus is arriving in about ten minutes, and everyone else around you is waiting for the same bus. Some people are sitting, some are standing. A loose “line” is starting to take shape near the road, but the bus hasn’t arrived yet. You’ve been waiting at the bus stop for about fifteen minutes, but out of the corner of your eye, a large group is approaching the bus stop. Uh oh. Bus Stop Finally, the bus arrives. Predictably, everyone swarms for the bus, and the next thing you know, you’ve ended up at the back of the line. YUUUUUCK. Fortunately, at Disney World’s value hotels, there seem to be clear lines for each bus — meaning you’ll never be worried about accidentally cutting in front of someone else or feeling frustrated that someone has cut in front of you. Bus Station at Port Orleans Riverside But if you find yourself waiting at a bus stop with no distinct line, here are some tips to help you get through this situation: FIRST: Make sure your stroller is folded up BEFORE the bus arrives. This will save you time when it’s time to board the bus. SECOND: Be prepared. Don’t waffle around once the bus shows up! Once you’re near that bus and in that semblance of a line, the only way to move is FORWARD. And THIRD: Pay close attention to the screens at the bus station, which will tell you what bus is arriving and update in REAL TIME. So if your bus is suddenly arriving 5 minutes early, you’ll know! Bus stop 23. Visit EPCOT Mid-Fest Season EPCOT has four seasonal Festivals throughout the year: The Festival of the Arts, the Flower and Garden Festival, the Food and Wine Festival, and the Festival of the Holidays. 2024 EPCOT Festival of the Arts If you’re looking for the least-crowded time to attend one of these specialty events (to experience all the new shows, merch, and — of course — FOOD), consider visiting AFTER the Festival has kicked off, as opposed to the very busy Opening Day and following weekend when the crowds are at their highest. 2023 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival Likewise, Festivals can also be ultra-busy towards their end date, too, with everyone trying to get those last Best of the Fest bites and sips in! You’ll likely find that a mid-season Festival visit (even better if it’s on a weekday) tends to be a more relaxing experience overall. Food + Wine + Disney = Heaven! 24. Some Restaurants Are Not Great For “Supersensors” We might love dining at the Disney World restaurants, but those immersive atmospheres for some dining experiences are VERY high-energy (and a whole lot “louder”) than others. So if you or one of your loved ones struggles with anxiety or perhaps has any sort of auditory sensory issues, then select table services might be more stressful than enjoyable. Take the character dining experiences, for example: Chef Mickey’s Chef Mickey’s at Contemporary Resort is a hustlin’-bustlin’ good time, but one of the LOUDEST character dining experiences just because there’s a LOT going on. You’ve got all five characters to meet, you’ve got kiddos getting up and dancing, you might be encouraged to join a napkin-twirling parade, and then there’s the monorail which is traveling above you all the while. Fancy Nancy! The Disney Junior Play and Dine breakfast at Hollywood and Vine in Hollywood Studios ALSO gets pretty rambunctious — since it’s tailored to a much much younger crowd (meaning squeals and crying galore). For a more calm character dining experience, we tend to book reservations at restaurants like: Garden Grill Restaurant at EPCOT Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends at Disney’s Riviera Resort Story Book Dining at Artist Point at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge And Cape May Cafe Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast at Disney’s Beach Club Resort Garden Grill 25. Don’t Rely On The Buses When You’re Running Late It’s easy to get caught up in your room (or oversleep!) and forget you have a dining reservation starting in 30 minutes. And if that DOES happen, you might be tempted to just hop on a Disney bus with the hopes that you’ll make it there in time. Disney bus But remember — buses only run every 10 or 20 minutes or so from the resorts to the parks at the busiest times of day (morning and evenings). Around midday, you might be waiting even longer! And THAT means if you just missed the last bus, you could be in for a long wait and miss your reservation ENTIRELY. All-Star Movies Hotel Bus Stop That’s why we recommend using a rideshare service instead — like Uber, Lyft, or one of Disney’s Minnie Vans (which you can book through Lyft). You WILL have to pay out of pocket for these options, but you won’t have to worry about waiting for a bus and you’ll probably get to your destination a lot more quickly. Rideshare sign in Disney World Just don’t forget — if you’re trying to take a rideshare to quickly get over to Magic Kingdom, you’re still gonna have to manage the whole “Transportation and Ticket Center” middle-man — which will STILL require you to get on a monorail or ferry to carry you the rest of the way to the park. Your best bet in this case is to go on the Lyft app and book one of Disney’s Minnie Vans instead, which will skip over the TTC entirely and take you up to the front gates. Minnie Van And for the chronically running late, Disney typically offers a grace period (usually about 15-20 minutes for dining reservations) — but, still, I wouldn’t try pressing your luck if I were you! 26. Guarantee The BEST Seats For The Shows If watching the Disney shows is your number one priority, then THIS next tip may lead to one of your best investments YET. Disney’s Dining Packages allow guests to reserve a meal at one of the select park restaurants to be paired with guaranteed reserved seating for a show. Regal Eagle Candlelight Processional Dining Package Options include — but aren’t limited to — Fantasmic! Dining Packages in Hollywood Studios, the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Parties in Magic Kingdom, and the Concert Series (or Candlelight Processional for the holiday season) that take place during EPCOT’s Festivals. Eat to the Beat Same Day Dining Package sign 27. Opt For Fantasmic’s SECOND Showing (When Available) Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios is a fan-favorite performance for a reason. You’ve got the fireworks, the water effects, the lasers, the projections, the live characters, and LOTS of classic Disney songs! I mean, what more could you ask for, right? Fantasmic! Fantasmic is typically performed only once per night. However, during Disney World’s busier seasons, TWO showings are often offered. And we’ve found that it’s WAY easier to get a seat (and is generally less crowded overall) during the second, later showtime. If that works well with your group’s schedule (and you think you can stay awake late enough to actually enjoy the second showing), we highly recommend it! Fantasmic! 28. Keep Tabs On Construction When you go to Disney World, you expect to be TRANSPORTED to “a whole new world.” But nothing pulls you out of that immersive atmosphere faster than construction. So. Much. Construction. While construction around the Disney bubble DOES mean we can expect new additions and refreshed experiences, it also means closed attractions and lots of “pardon our pixie dust walls.” Chicken Guy expansion construction walls Make sure to check the Disney World website for construction updates on each attraction and hotel’s main page. Construction notices will be listed toward the top of the page in orange text to let you know what you need to be aware of BEFORE you go. But… then again… you don’t HAVE to do all that extra work if you don’t WANT to. ©Disney We send out these construction updates through our FREE DFB newsletter just as soon as we hear about them. That way, you can always stay in the know (without having to lift a FINGER). 29. You Can Talk To A DOG “Oh, HI THERE!” Everyone… meet Dug. He loves squirrels, toys, shaking hands (or paws), smelling birds, and — oh yeah — he TALKS, TOO! Recently, Dug’s hi-tech collar was upgraded to help him TALK to his friends in Animal Kingdom. Dug Now keep in mind that this NEW character interaction is a little different than the traditional character meet-and-greets we’ve seen with Dug before. Dug can be spotted roaming around Discovery Island, but his Character Attendants confirmed there is currently no set schedule for his appearances. Dug That means you won’t find him on the My Disney Experience app at this time, but keep your eyes out for changes! 30. A WEIRD Parking Rule We love stopping by the Disney World hotels to check out all the latest happenings, but we especially love stopping by for a meal! We’re stuffed When you book an Advance Dining Reservation (a sit-down meal booked in advance) at one of the hotels, parking is free — meaning you don’t have to pay to park just to eat your meal. Instead, you just pull up to the gate and let the guard know you have a reservation, and they’ll direct you where to go from there. Grand Floridian Parking But sometimes, there’s an extra step in the process — which includes a parking pass. When we recently stopped by the Grand Floridian hotel to check out the reopened 1900 Park Fare for breakfast, the guard out front gave us this Resort Dining paper parking pass — which included the date as well as a three-hour time limit notice. We were instructed to display it on our windshield. Parking pass Now, Disney hotels don’t always do this with dining reservations. But since 1900 Park Fare is at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, which puts it on the monorail loop and close to Magic Kingdom, Disney could be hoping to discourage folks from parking here and then hopping on the monorail to get over to the park and taking away parking spaces from other guests. Monorail at the Grand Floridian Also, keep in mind that Grand Floridian parking as a non-hotel guest might also still be pretty far away from the hotel itself — all the way out in cast member parking, at times. So if you’re coming here for a dining reservation and planning on parking, give yourself plenty of time to make that extra trek. 31. Ride Seats DO Matter Alright, adrenaline-seeking enthusiasts — this one’s for YOU! If you’re seeking “maximum thrills,” ask the boarding Cast Member if you can sit in the very last row of coaster-type rides such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom or Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios. You’ll get whipped around like a ragdoll — which makes an otherwise more tame family coaster a LOT more intense. Slinky Dog Dash Orrrr, on the flip opposite side of things, try sitting toward the front of the coaster to make your ride experience a WHOLE lot more smooth-sailing. Big Thunder Mountain 32. ECVs Can Sell Out Perhaps a member of your group has mobility issues, and you plan to rent a wheelchair or electric conveyance vehicle (or ECV). If that’s the case, then lemme warn ya: ECVs can sell out on busy park days. Be Prepared for This So, we recommend arriving at your chosen park as EARLY AS POSSIBLE to minimize the risk of not getting an ECV. If you are a Disney Resort hotel guest with the benefit of Early Theme Park Entry, take full advantage of that extra 30 minutes, since it can make all the difference. EVC and stroller rentals If ECVs are sold out once you arrive, you can be placed on a Wait List for one. But, as with the Waitlist feature for dining we chatted about earlier, those wait times can vary widely. And if you can’t go without an ECV, you may find some peace of mind by renting from an outside company (many of which can deliver an ECV to your Resort). 33. These Hotels Are The BEST Disney Resort Dupes Of ALL The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels aren’t owned by Disney, which can confuse some people because they’re literally right in the heart of Disney World. But, as it turns out, these hotels are actually owned by Marriott properties. This can play in your favor in many, many ways. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin In terms of the downside, you won’t really find Disney theming here since they are NOT Disney hotels. But you can use Marriott points here, which can make these hotels an awesome pick if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy member and have the points to spend. (A loyalty program that’s FREE to join, might I add.) Swan & Dolphin Plus, these hotels are within walking distance to EPCOT, Disney’s BoardWalk, Yacht and Beach Club, the Skyliner, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s a beautiful resort! They also qualify for some great perks like Early Theme Park Entry, and Extended Evening Hours (which is a more exclusive perk generally only open to Disney World Deluxe Hotel and Deluxe Villa guests — along with select other hotel guests). And they’re also home to a multitude of unique restaurants! bluezoo restaurant So if you want to get great perks, use your Marriott points, and have access to a bunch of awesome eats, don’t ignore the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin (OR their newer Swan Reserve hotel, either!). 34. Bring A Sewing Kit Several Disney resorts used to provide rooms with little sewing kits back in the day and while you can still sometimes request one at the front desk, the safest bet is to bring your own. ©Amazon Mini sewing kits usually come equipped with a small pair of scissors, a needle, thread, safety pins, and sometimes a spare button or two. These kits can really save the day if you have a sudden wardrobe catastrophe and can be found on Amazon for as little as $5. ©Amazon 35. Don’t Pay Rack Rate For Your Hotel Room This might be the MOST IMPORTANT money-saving tip! Disney regularly releases hotel and ticket discounts throughout the year. Now, if you’ve already booked your hotel room and THEN find out that a super awesome hotel discount is going on, DON’T PANIC! You might still be able to apply that discount through the My Disney Experience app. All-Star Music Resort Go to the “My Plans, Reservation and Tickets” section and look for the option “Change/Modify Reservation”. From there, find the exact date and times of your vacation, select your room, and check the top options listed. One will be for “Room-only,” but if there’s a discount that you can still apply to your room, there should be another option listed as “Special Offers.” Select that, follow the prompts, and get your trip rebooked with the special offer. Contemporary Resort When in doubt, you can always talk to a Disney representative by calling 407-939-1936 or work with a travel agent like our friends over at Small World Vacations. 36. Our Weird Tip About Deodorant Stay with me, y’all. This stuff’s important. If you’re not a fan of stick deodorant, we totally get it. Getting a spray deodorant in an aerosol can be a great alternative, but there is a time when we do NOT recommend bringing this type — and that’s when you’re planning on flying. ©Amazon When you fly, the pressure in the cabin is regulated, but not necessarily the pressure in the belly of the plane where the luggage is being kept. Even so, in either location, the pressure can cause your aerosol can to malfunction, meaning your deodorant could get all over the contents of your bag. Degree deodorant If you do want to bring an aerosol deodorant, we recommend having it in a ziploc bag to ensure it won’t get over all your stuff, just to be safe! But honestly? Maybe you should stick with the stick deo… just this once? Or purchase an aerosol version AFTER you’ve landed in Florida. 37. There’s SO MUCH TO DO In Disney Springs! There’s always TONS to do in Disney Springs — from shopping, to dining, to watching live entertainment, to NOW watching the NEW drone show spectacular towards the end of the night (AKA: Disney Dreams That Soar). View of the drone show from the Coca-Cola rooftop But can you REALLY fill a whole day just exploring Disney Springs alone? ABSOLUTELY you can! (And best of all — you DON’T even need a park ticket to pull it off!) Disney Springs If you wanna learn about ALL the AMAZING things you can do in this shopping district area (besides shop, of course), check out our “50 Amazing Things You Never Knew Were In Disney Springs” video when you get the chance! 38. Split Your Stay Have you ever thought about doing a split-stay at 2 different resorts, but didn’t want to move your bags from one resort to the next? Call Bell Services and they’ll do it for you! Bell Services at Disney’s Polynesian Resort All of the Disney World resorts (including Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort) work together and they can save you the hassle of getting an Uber or Minnie Van to shuttle your stuff over to your other hotel. That way, if you want to, you can get a taste of multiple resorts on the same stay! Bell Services So consider picking a Value resort — like Art of Animation — for the first half of your trip and end with a splurge at a Deluxe… like the Polynesian! It can take a few hours to have your luggage brought over, so make sure you have any personal items you might need with you before you hand over your bags! 39. Disney WiFi Can Be Spotty Disney World’s Wi-Fi can be a little unreliable. (Ok, A LOT unreliable.) In fact, you might find that your own phone’s service is WAY more reliable than connecting to Disney’s free wifi — which could seriously mean the difference between getting a boarding group for the NEW Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride in Magic Kingdom… or NOT. ©Android Authority Recently many buses at Disney World have been Wi-Fi enabled as well — which is super nice to use while you’re on the way to the park (but again, not always the most reliable)! So when the situation isn’t dire, you can try switching over to Disney’s Wifi. But if you’re doing something super time-sensitive on your phone (like grabbing a virtual queue), you’re probably better off relying on your 5G, if you have it. ©Apple Insider 40. What To Do When Your Flight Gets Canceled Being trapped at the Most Magical Place on Earth doesn’t sound that bad… until it happens to you! Then suddenly you find yourself saying, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home…” Orlando International Airport If your flight gets canceled due to bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, you’re gonna want to know about it JUST as soon as it happens. So make sure to set up your phone to receive flight alerts and keep tabs on the weather, both back at home as well as at Disney World. Some airlines might let you switch your flights in advance if bad weather is expected. Storm at Orlando International MCO Airport — photo courtest of @cc.eastwood The more advance notice you have, the better — because if you know before you head to the airport that you might need to plan on staying at Disney World for another day, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and aggravation. Your Disney World hotel will be happy to arrange for you to stay another night — or if there isn’t a room, they’ll help find you a different resort with availability and get you moved over quickly and safely. ©Reddit If you need to leave Disney World early because a hurricane is coming, ask the front desk about refund policies (or check the Disney World website so you know exactly what hurricane policies you need to ask about). 41. STAY SO HYDRATED Y’ALL The Florida heat and humidity is WILD, y’all. And it impacts you even WORSE after you’ve been out in it all day walking for MILES on end. The most important thing you can do for yourself is to — repeat after me — stay hydrated. Don’t forget your water bottle! To keep from having to spend a bunch of money on water bottles all trip long, bring a reusable water bottle and fill it at those water bottle refill stations throughout Disney World. (You can find them listed on your MDE app!) Water fountain and refill station You can also get free cups of water at most quick-service restaurants. And don’t forget to order water at table service restaurants too! Even if you’re planning on drinking a soda or cocktail, you’re STILL gonna need the H20 on the side to keep you going for a good ol’ hydration replenishment once you’re back in the park again. Casey’s Corner water station 42. Book Dining During The Hottest Parts Of The Day And since we’re already talking about Florida heat, lemme hit you with ANOTHER important tip to help you stay cool: We highly recommend booking table service meals during the hottest part of the day (which is typically around lunchtime). Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant Not only is it usually smack dab in the middle of your park day (A.K.A. the perfect mid-day break time) but it also allows you to get in the shade and air conditioning while you grab some grub! Liberty Tree Tavern 43. Baby Care Centers Each Disney World park has a baby care center. And if you’re someone traveling with a little one, you’re gonna want to use this place every chance you get. Baby Care Center and First Aid sign at EPCOT Baby Care Centers are fully staffed with Cast Members ready and willing to assist Disney World guests with infants. You’ll find private nursing rooms, changing rooms, feeding areas with highchairs, KID-SIZED potties (for the potty-training littles!), and a shop with essential baby supplies like diapers, baby food, wipes, clothing, and more. Baby Care Center and First Aid sign at Animal Kingdom And best of all? These centers are FREE for guests to use! 44. Pack Cards And Small Games Sure, Disney World is the land of entertainment, but what about when the unexpected happens like a downpour or power outage? Rainy day We learned that packing a small deck of cards or other small games can be a lifesaver if you’re stuck indoors when one of those unexpected challenges happens. Deck of cards Also, if you make sure the games are small and portable enough, they’re not going to take up much room in that suitcase of yours. 45. Download THIS App For Major Flight Savings We’re always on the hunt for the latest ways to save on tickets, flights, and hotel accommodations. And one of our favorite tricks is using the Hopper app — which can save you a lot of money when all is said and done. ©Hopper Hopper is an app for Apple and Android users that searches for the cheapest flights and hotels. The price prediction ability allows you to know when booking your flight or hotel will be the cheapest. All you need to do is select your desired route (one-way or roundtrip) or hotel stay, and Hopper will show you a color-coded calendar. Green days are the cheapest, yellow and orange days are mid-range, and red days are the most expensive. The app also tells you the average price for each color to help you plan your trip for when it’s cheapest. ©Hopper Once you choose your dates from the calendar, Hopper will provide suggestions for your next steps. If the fare or stay is at its cheapest (per the price prediction tool), Hopper will recommend you book now! 46. Know How To Talk To The Characters If you’re like me, then you might wait in line to see a character, get up to them, and then completely BLANK. Like, what am I supposed to SAY to these guys whom I’ve never met? Rafiki While the characters will be more than happy to lead the conversation, it’s not a bad idea to come up with a few solid questions while you’re waiting in line that you can ask them yourself. Minnie at the “Mickey & Friends” Meet and Greet Here — you can borrow a few of OUR go-tos if you’d like! For Goofy, ask him about his favorite hot dog toppings! (Or maybe pizza toppings… or burger toppings?) Meeting Princess Aurora? She might have a few tips for a good night’s sleep. (Minus the whole “prick your finger on the spinning wheel” trick — though I heard that works every time.) Ask Minnie about her favorite bow in her entire collection (which could be quite difficult to narrow down — I hear she has HUNDREDS) And for Belle? Ask for book recommendations, of course! Hey Goofy! 47. Wear Socks At The Airport Apologies beforehand, since this one might be a bit triggering to all my germaphobes out there — but this tip is an absolute MUST. You’ll not just need — but WANT — to wear socks at the airport, especially since you’ll be asked to remove your shoes during those security checks. Security Lines at MCO Socks will keep your feet clean and comfortable, and you’ll be able to avoid the unpleasantness of walking barefoot on the airport floor. 48. Modify Your Quick Service Meals Using Mobile Order makes it SO much easier to modify your meal choices. Let’s say you’re Mobile Ordering a burger on the MDE app (just press the “+” button on the bottom of the screen to order food!) — but you don’t want a certain topping on it. ©Disney — Modify options under item PRESTO! You can modify the ingredients and choices on the app and kick that topping to the curb! (Buh bye, tomato! I hardly knew thee.) Options for Side Item and Customization ©Disney Modifications can be made at the register too, but it can be much easier for you to pick your modifications directly in the app just to make sure you’re getting exactly what you want with your food. 49. STACK Your Lightning Lanes It feels illegal, but I promise you it isn’t. If you purchased Genie+ for your park day — to help you bypass those thick ride and attraction lines — then you’ll want to really milk this service for what it’s worth. Meaning you NEED to know how to stack Lightning Lane reservations. ©Disney Here’s the thing: You can make your next Lightning Lane selection after you’ve used the first one you booked, once your return time window has ended, OR if 120 minutes have passed since you booked your last one. ©Disney So… what does that latter point mean? It means that you can book another Lightning Lane two hours after reserving your previous one, essentially allowing you to have TWO (or more) Lightning Lane return times at a time. 50. Do NOT Skip Breakfast Please, we’re begging you — get something in your tummy in the morning before you start the day. Even if you’re not a breakfast person, just a little hit of protein can do WONDERS for ya before you start to conquer the parks! Our plate! There are Starbucks locations and Joffrey’s Coffee kiosks in all four Disney World parks, and every Disney World hotel has some variation of a food court with grab-and-go breakfast foods. Joffrey’s Near Canada Or you can grab a box of protein bars from the grocery store ahead of time and snack on those each morning of your trip. TOTALLY up to you. Just don’t start your day off on an empty stomach. Because you’ll QUICKLY regret it. You can order off-menu items! We’ve got TONS of experience with the restaurants around Disney World. But even though we know our way around Disney dining like the back of our hand, there’s a spot in EPCOT that leaves even us with some serious questions. EPCOT Between the many restaurants of the World Showcase, newer dining options, and festival food booths available throughout much of the year, there’s no shortage of great food in EPCOT. But even so, we can’t help but wonder about the fate of one mysterious EPCOT restaurant that has been in limbo for years! Located in the back of the Morocco Pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, Restaurant Marrakesh is a table service restaurant featuring a menu of authentic Moroccan food. Restaurant Marrakesh On top of the food, the restaurant was also known for its elaborate decor and live entertainment, provided by belly dancers and live musicians. Belly Dancer Despite the restaurant’s unique decor, entertainment, and menu options, it’s been years since we’ve eaten there — but not by choice! Restaurant Marrakesh has remained closed for years, as it never reopened following the 2020 park closures. Restaurant Marrakesh While the restaurant itself has been closed since 2020, the space has been used for several different purposes since then. In recent years, the Restaurant Marrakesh dining room has served as indoor seating for EPCOT festivals and an exclusive lounge for Annual Passholders. Annual Passholder Lounge refreshments in EPCOT The Annual Passholder-exclusive lounge that is currently set up inside Restaurant Marrakesh will be open through June 18th. With this perk set to end in just a few days, it has us wondering — what’s next for Restaurant Marrakesh? Restaurant Marrakesh The 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is scheduled to begin on August 29th, so it’s possible that it could be used as a lounge and seating area for the festival again. Florida Blue Medicare Lounge in Restaurant Marrakesh But since Disney hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the restaurant’s future, we’re left wondering, will it continue to serve as a flexible space for various purposes? Will the space be transformed into something completely new? Will Restaurant Marrakesh itself ever reopen? Restaurant Marrakesh For now, it seems like Disney is leaving us with more questions than answers on this one! We loved the unique menu and entertainment at Restaurant Marrakesh, so we’ll continue to keep a close eye out for any hints at what the restaurant’s future might be. Of course, if we spot any updates you’ll be the first to know, so stay tuned to DFB to keep in the loop! I know. I’m kind of intrigued to find out what this article is going to be about, too. What writer narrows down their audience to just one-twelfth of the potential readership? Welcome to Disney World Well, I guess I’m just pretty sure that all you other zodiac signs are going to think we Virgos are crazy when you read these tips. So I’m trying to save face in addition to our reputation. (But…I already know that all the Scorpios are reading this because y’all don’t really recognize the concept of boundaries. And the Leos are here because they don’t ever like when they’re not included in something…even if they don’t actually want to be.) Disney World Festival of Fantasy Parade So I’ll just get on with it and assume that if you’re reading this, you either ARE a Virgo or you know a Virgo…so you won’t really be surprised. Here we gooooo… . 1. Disney World is GROSS. Virgos…let’s be honest with ourselves. We like things clean. Orderly and organized are our calling cards. But Disney World? It can be pure chaos for someone with our sensibilities. Lots of folks ready to go at rope drop! Kids are licking the mashed potato serving spoon at the buffet restaurant. There are unidentifiable substances on your seat in Dumbo the Flying Elephant. I promise you that about 99.9% of the hotel rooms and restaurant tables you’re assigned will have flaws. (Holes in the towels and cockroaches in the bathrooms at Disney resorts? It happens, my friends. It’s happened to me.) Hollywood Studios So we are going to have to arm ourselves with a healthy dose of zen when it comes to various surfaces around Walt Disney World, and lots and lots of wet wipes! My MO in the parks is ziploc bags to keep things clean and separated in my park bag (especially sticky left-over lollipops, half-eaten granola bars, wet socks after that pop-up rain shower, etc), packs of wet wipes stored in multiple places like emergency cash when you’re on vacation, so many travel kleenex packs (anyone else have a kid who’s constantly allergic to…like…air?), and deep breathing techniques. Ziploc Bags — A Must-Have In the resorts, I legit check for bed bugs and always keep my suitcases off the floor and closed. Have I ever seen bed bugs in Disney hotels? Nope. Am I willing to risk it? Nope. 2. Your Meticulous Analysis and PRE-Preparation Will Shine Here. YES!!!! That special part of you that borders on obsessive? Disney World is the perfect place to flex those muscles! All the stuff We Virgos love to pre-plan. We prepare to prepare. We have spreadsheets and color-coded documents. Post-it notes of ALL sizes. And more so than ever before, this hobby of ours is super useful when it comes to Disney World. An old trip spreadsheet of mine when I had a toddler With additions like the pre-paid, skip-the-line service Genie+, Early Entry that gets you into the park 30 minutes before everyone else, After Hours events, dining reservations you can book 60 days out, Virtual Queues for the most popular rides, and plenty of special events, meticulous planning is really the only way to get the most out of your vacation days and get the biggest bang for your very substantial buck here. So revel in it, Virgos! Get out your highlighters, because THIS IS YOUR ROMAN EMPIRE! 3. That Perfectionism Will Be The End Of You. Buuuut, there IS a villainous side to that “we do everything right and are perfect all the time” trait, Virgos. Our perfectionism can, unfortunately, make us into SUUUPER Debbie Downers in Disney World. We work hard, but we analyze harder. And even though you put in all of that pre-planning, have a whole infographic on your phone of parade step-offs and Fantasmic showtimes, and booked the exact hotel you want along with five phone calls confirming they have your request of a corner room in the hallway that’s by the door that’s closest to EPCOT…something, my dear friends, will go wrong. Probably lots of things. CLOSED See point number one above. Disney World is gross. And chaotic. And there are SO many things out of your control. So even though you did everything right (and you DID do everything right…I promise you), not everything will end up as you expected. ©NOAA So this is where that zen comes in again, friends. Build that flexibility into your trip for things to go wrong. My parents always used to laugh at me when I would literally schedule “spontaneous time” into my day when I was 16. But we Virgos…well, we need to schedule the time for things to go wrong the same way that we carefully plan for things to go right. Rainstorms in EPCOT Build those rest days into your schedule. Know the cancellation policies for hotels, restaurants, and events that you book just in case someone gets sick, burnt out, or throws a tantrum. Have a bonus day worked into the trip in case something in the plan gets rained out or your favorite ride breaks down on the day you’re supposed to ride it. Contingency plans are your friend here, Virgos. And we both know you’re good at building them. We don’t know what’s going on, but, y’all, Disney World breakfasts are just getting better and better, particularly at hotel quick service locations. Contempo Cafe First, the whole croissant trend is LIFE, and we’ll be eating over-the-top croissants for LIFE (especially those with espresso in them). Then there’s the Loaded Totcho Bowl that’s turned up on breakfast menus at many of Disney World’s hotel quick service spots — we can’t get enough! Now, though, we’ve found two more new delicious breakfast items that are sure to help you fuel up before a day in the parks. Let’s hop on the Monorail and take a quick trip over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort to visit Contempo Cafe. Two brand new breakfast items have appeared on the menu here, and we have to try them. First up is the Breakfast Burrito, which is a burrito made with Scrambled Egg, Bacon, Sausage, Cheesy Potato, and Chipotle Aïoli for $9.49. It’s breakfast wrapped in a tortilla, and we are here for it. This also comes served with Potato Barrels (aka tater tots), and they’re just you’re usual Disney tots: crispy and salty. Breakfast burrito The burrito tastes just like a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, but without the biscuit. That tortilla, though, is fried and does a good job of keeping spillage to a minimum — it’s also tasty. We also like that the burrito is served already cut in half, making it easier to eat when you’re on the go. The egg is fluffy and moist. We also appreciate the good amount of bacon chunks we got in our burrito. Holds well together The star of this baby, though, is the CHEESE (something you know we love). The blend of melted cheeses is so creamy and delicious. However, we didn’t taste much of the chipotle aïoli, so it didn’t have a noticeable kick if you’re worried about spiciness. So cheesy! We also tried a new breakfast side, Biscuits and Gravy. It’s made with Buttermilk Biscuits, House-made Gravy, and Chives for $4.49. Okay, so don’t expect this to taste like your Grandma’s gravy. With that being said, though, this is still a nice homemade blend of creamy gravy and bits of spicy sausage — by spicy, we mean it reminded us of something like Italian sausage. Biscuits and Gravy The chives give the overall flavor a bit of zing. The biscuits are soft and pillowy, as biscuits should be. It is a smaller portion size, so if you’re just looking for a lighter breakfast, this could be a great option for under $5. We would get this again! Overall, we’d say that these are two more quick, solid breakfast options in Disney World, which seems to be something we’re seeing a lot more of at the hotels. Let us tell you now, Disney, we appreciate it! So keep up the good work. Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. With DOZENS of places to eat at Disney World, we know it can be tough to plan your meals.
