  1. If you regularly sing “Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me,” we might have a HUGE update for you. Pirates of the Caribbean Okay, so we’ve been trying to get more details from Disney about the Pirates of the Caribbean tavern in Magic Kingdom that was announced back in September 2023. All the information we got was that it would be a new bar themed around Pirates of the Caribbean that it would feature Barker Bird. But Disney’s been quiet on details ever since, so we’ve been looking for construction in Adventureland that could signal it’s coming soon. We recently turned up a new permit that could provide a hint, and now we’ve got actual signs of construction. Some people are speculating that the tavern will be where the Pirates League used to be located. The Pirates League has been closed since 2020. That location would be near the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean. The Pirates League used to be a salon similar to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, except kids could get pirate makeovers. Pirates League We also recently noticed that Tortuga Tavern was closed, although Cast Members told us it was a seasonal closure. That was interesting to hear because that restaurant is typically open during the busy summer season. We also noticed the menu was completely removed, which is something we often see when a spot permanently closes. Menu removed at Tortuga Tavern We’ll be keeping an eye out for construction around Pirates of the Caribbean and elsewhere in Magic Kingdom (there is a big expansion on the way, after all), so stay tuned to DFB for more. 2. We’re dreaming of sunny skies, blue waters, and sandy beaches. ©Disney Disney Cruise Line offers adventures, relaxation, delicious food, and fun experiences. We love to be in a Disney atmosphere while sailing on the high seas. Plus, the journey is just as great as the destinations. Speaking of cruise destinations, Disney’s brand-new cruise destination in the Bahamas, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, is now open for you to visit! We stopped by and checked out the “adults-only” areas of the spaces. We know it’s great to vacation with the whole family, but once in a while, we adults need some grown-up time. That’s why these “adults-only” locations at Lookout Cay are great. You get a little rest and relaxation — kid-free. Lookout Cay Here on Lookout Cay, there is an adults-only beach called Serenity Bay. It includes a dedicated dining area and six private cabanas available to reserve and is exclusive to guests 18 years of age and older. Once you make your way down the pathway, you’ll come across the cabanas which also have direct beach access. Serenity Bay Cabanas After you pass the cabanas, you’ll find Serenity Bay BBQ — the adults-only buffet that serves up island eats with a bit more peace and quiet than the other dining locations on the island. Serenity Bay BBQ You’ll find a good amount of seating in the shade here, but if your cruise happens to have more adults, you could have trouble grabbing a seat depending on how crowded your sailing is. As far as the menu goes here, it’s pretty similar to what you’ll find at True-True BBQ and True-True Too BBQ in the family areas. Seating at Serenity Bay BBQ Since this is an adults-only area, of course, there’s a bar at Serenity Bay, too! The Blue Hole Bar serves up island-inspired cocktails and mocktails, plus beer and wine. The Blue Hole Bar Of course, there is a family-friendly beach at Lookout Cay, as well. On the East side of the island, you’ll find a beach for everyone, and there’s an interactive water play area. But we are pretty excited about this adult-exclusive beach! We had fun checking out all that Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point had to offer during our trip and still have more to share, so stay tuned to Disney Food Blog! 3. If you’ve yet to visit the Disney World hotels you’re considering for your next trip, how do you know you’re making the right decision for you and your family? Think about it for a moment. Comparing hotels solely by a short online description and a few stock photos can make you feel like you’ve made the right choice based on a smidge of idyllic information provided, but that scenario has led to a disaster of a time over and over again. Plenty of our readers have written in to tell us that once they arrived for their vacation, it was NOTHING like what they expected and they wish they had more experience built into their decision. Wilderness Lodge Some folks were looking for a lively atmosphere with lots of activities around only to be met with the polar opposite of their expectations. Others walked into total chaos of loud transportation and ginormous crowds which was definitely not what they anticipated when they opted to spend thousands of dollars on their trip. That’s where we’re ready to step in and help — you see, we’ve actually stayed at ALL of the Disney World hotels, and let’s just say, we’ve got thoughts! Disney World takes pride in its extensive choices of deluxe category hotels which can include certain amenities like multiple transportation options to the Disney World parks and Disney Springs, table service dining options in addition to grab and go or quick service restaurants, spas, live entertainment, incredible pools, and even closer proximity to the theme parks. So it’s important to know where each of these Disney World deluxe hotels rank on a scale of totally chill vibes to absolute chaos depending on how you envision your vacation. Since we know them so well, we asked our team here at DFB to rank these hotels using the same criteria, and here’s what we decided! Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve We’re just going to come out and say what you’re thinking — yes, these hotels DO exist at Disney World; they’re not a myth. They’re kind of our favorite hidden gems of hotels and that helps aid in their totally chill vibes. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin You’ll find three different options between each of them and they’re the only hotels on Disney World property where you earn (or spend!) Marriott Bonvoy points with your stay (hidden perks all around)! Each of these hotels’ rooms is pretty swanky — they typically have a little more room, and have a more posh, luxurious feel to them. Swan Resort lobby It’s a true added bonus that they’re the first ones we’re ready to snatch up when we’re visiting for our favorite EPCOT festivals, AND they’re afforded lots of the same perks as the main Disney World deluxe hotels. They even have their own food and wine festival that happens in the fall each year — which tends to pack a lively crowd with their unlimited food and beverage tickets! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Our entire team jumped at the chance to rank this hotel as one of the MOST chill in all of Disney World’s deluxe hotels — Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Animal Kingdom Lodge Here it’s easy to get swept away in their easygoing pace, wake up to animals roaming the savanna, breeze by for a snack or meal at your leisure, and even jump into some fun activities where you might accidentally be learning about the animals who live at the hotel at the same time. It feels like no one is in a rush to be here and it’s easy to forget you’re actually at Disney World and NOT in an African hotel about to set out on a leisurely safari. (Bonus points to you if you’ve booked the Club Level rooms that include food and snacks for a more “all-inclusive” vibe). Kidani Village lobby Yep, the only thing we could find less chill about this hotel is that it’s so massive between its two buildings (Jambo House and Kidani Village) that there’s an internal shuttle bus running between the two intermittently. Between them, you’ll find different restaurants, more safari sights to behold, and even separate pools to explore! Disney’s Wilderness Lodge This next hotel is also one of the most chill, and it’s easy to see why. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is inspired by national parks and natural landmarks that can be experienced when you travel out west. Wilderness Lodge Here your main building is modeled after a log cabin exterior with incredibly detailed woodwork, vaulted ceilings, and hidden details in its corner fireplace. And, with a short walk over to the Boulder Ridge building, you can even catch a glimpse of some of Walt’s prized train sets from his personal collection. ©Disney When you’re here don’t miss your chance to see the geyser go off throughout the day, l0unge around the leisure pool, and take in a quick bite at some of our favorite restaurants. But even with as chill as it looks, we’ve got to warn you about one thing! This hotel loses chill points because it is home to Whispering Canyon Cafe which could be quite the rootin’ tootin’ time if you’re not familiar with their dry humor, and rowdy atmosphere (stick pony rides included). Disney’s Riviera Resort Take in all the Italian and French influence you could put into a creative mind, and Disney Imagineers turned out the stunning Disney’s Riviera Resort! As the newest Disney World hotel, it’s one that you’re probably scrambling to try out for yourself, and we can’t blame you. Riviera Resort It’s a smaller hotel with a variety of room sizes — making it an ideal option for truly anyone who’s looking for a relaxed, low-key vibe. The views from the tower are gorgeous, there are incredible restaurants right there on site, and you’ve got one of the quickest transportation options in the Disney Skyliner right at your door. Skyliner Here’s where chaos can take a turn — and it’s really got nothing to do with the hotel itself. This hotel is backed up to one of Disney World’s largest moderate hotels — Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Not only will you be banking to take the Disney Skyliner transportation in the morning and late evening when your feet are tired and achy, but so will hundreds of other folks too! Their hotel is knocking at your hotel’s doorstep when you stay here, so you’ll want to allow for plenty of travel time just in case. Disney’s Old Key West Resort Disney’s Old Key West Resort certainly fits the bill for a chill Disney World hotel. It’s a MASSIVE property and is the first of its kind designed to be a long-term stay for those visiting Disney World with Disney Vacation Club. Old Key West It’s also home to one of Disney World’s resident golf courses, boat transportation floating down the river to and from Disney Springs for added convenience, and almost feels like a little town of its own. A lot of the rooms here are built for groups including multigenerational stays which can add a lot of value for those who are ok with finding a healthy compromise for staying somewhere that will appeal to all ages. Old Key West Resort | Deluxe Studio Room. The only place you’re going to run into a bit of chaos is that transportation can be a bit frustrating. Since the hotel’s property is so large, there’s an internal shuttle that runs intermittently around sections of the hotel and to the front check-in building named Hospitality House. Additionally, the quick service restaurant here only provides for outdoor seating, otherwise, your dining option outside of cooking in your room’s kitchen is Olivia’s Cafe — also located at the front building. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort This next hotel is another large whopper that ranks in between chill and kinda chaos-y! Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort neighbors Disney’s Old Key West Resort and they both share a similar vibe. This hotel also is home to a huge Disney World golf course and is pretty expansive! It’s also themed like the Saratoga Springs horse race track in New York, so you’re bound to see some beautiful statues, portraits, motifs, and general nods throughout the entire hotel’s design and decor. Saratoga Springs But again, the chaos here starts with the same transportation woes just like at its neighboring hotel. The internal shuttle will bring you around the hotel sections and front building just like at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, but you’ll probably either end up cooking, headed to Disney Springs for dinner (depending on where your room is located to the main building), or eating meals in the theme parks. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort There’s also another piece of chaos to throw into the decision here and it’s that Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort is home to the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) preview center. This means folks will be stopping by from time to time to preview some of Disney World’s newest hotel room mock-ups, talk to guides about purchasing into the program or adding on to their existing memberships. Treehouse Villas If you’re not a fan of groups of people coming in and out around this area of the hotel throughout the day, then this might not be the hotel for you. Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts We’ve finally made it to the middle of the range in our chill to chaos ranking — are you still with us? GOOD! So, Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts are where you want to be if you’re someone who’s looking for a healthy mix of both! These sister hotels share a building with Disney’s Yacht Club toward the side outstretched by those chill Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve hotels and Disney’s Beach Club outstretched closest to the International Gateway of EPCOT. Disney’s Beach Club Resort This hotel gets major chill points for being able to share the arguably best pool on Disney World property, Stormalong Bay which is themed like a shipwrecked pirate ship complete with a mast slide, sand bottom pool, and beach area where you can make (and totally wreck) sandcastles AND a lazy river! Stormalong Bay If you like the inside theming and decor of the hotel’s lobby and halls, you’ll swoon over the stunning interior of the hotel rooms! ©Disney The food here is great too, with lots to choose from between grab and go, quick service, full table service restaurants, and (by far our favorite pick) LOUNGES! Full meal But where it gets a little chaotic is everyone wants to be here — seriously! The hotel takes this so seriously that you need to scan your Magicband or room key to verify you’re a hotel guest of these two hotels just to enter the gate and swim. The activities here can get a little louder in the day with a rockin’ pool party, and since it’s close to EPCOT, it’s going to offer a decent view of the nighttime spectacular, Luminous: The Symphony Of Us which could disrupt you if you’re an early sleeper. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Aloha, you’ve reached Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on our ranking! This hotel is heavily influenced by Polynesian architecture, culture, and food and ranks high on our list of favorite hotels pretty consistently. But, that’s because it knows how to have a relaxed time without taking itself so seriously. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort While there’s a true Hawaiian spirit that flows through the walls of this hotel and extends to its array of outdoor activities and beach areas, this hotel can get pretty chaotic because it’s easily crowded! Its proximity to Magic Kingdom, its tasty dishes at its various restaurants, and its rambunctious bar grotto make it an easy target for folks to swing by to explore the hotel. Polynesian Resort While the amenities of the hotel are just for hotel guests to enjoy, the beach area is typically inviting to anyone who wants to view Magic Kingdom’s fireworks from its shores (unless there’s a special event happening that prevents this). This can lead to some crowds if you’re not early to grab a spot and if you want to do dinner from its resident ‘Ohana restaurant, you’ll want to make sure to grab those reservations early because its two meals are typically harder to get into the later you wait. Beach This sometimes leads to folks stopping by to see about other people canceling on short notice for a chance to get themselves in or to see if there’s a waitlist option available. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa This next hotel really wants to be fancy and uptight, but we know it better than it does itself! Try as it might, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa might be our hidden party hotel at Disney World. If you’re finding yourself shocked at that statement, allow us to back up this argument a bit. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Sure, its incredible Victorian appeal has won over the hearts of many (including ours) over the decades of this proud hotel’s history, but she’s certainly no prude! That’s right — Disney’s Grand Floridian KNOWS how to party with flair and you’ll frequently catch live entertainment in its lobby, bustling interactive character meals at 1900 Park Fare, and stunning views of Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks! Mirabel! If you’re someone who needs a little bit of both worlds to have the best vacation ever, this hotel is begging you to call it home! Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort Maybe you’re not totally down for a party during the day, but what if the nighttime is a different story? Then, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort could be the best choice for you! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn This entire hotel is beautiful and inspired by the turn of the century look to the Atlantic Boardwalk but we mean this quite literally as you get a FULL boardwalk! This one kicks the chaos meter up a bit because it’s transformed at night from this quiet relaxed hotel to a romping party happening right outside your room! BoardWalk games Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort is a popular nighttime stop for those looking for something to see and do as they wind down their evening with midway games for prizes, and live performances, and is just steps away from a dueling piano bar AND dance hall! You won’t get more spirited than here! Disney’s Contemporary Resort If you’re shocked that Disney’s Contemporary Resort ranks the most chaotic on our list, you’ve probably never stayed here before. On paper, it’s an interesting concept for a contemporary-styled hotel complete with lots of amenities including a short walk over to Magic Kingdom or transportation by monorail. Its A-frame exterior and clean, sleek, design to its recently refurbished rooms give it an edgy and modern feel. Disney’s Contemporary Resort But, there’s chaos hidden within its walls and, according to our team here at DFB, the absolute highest of them all! The interesting design and wow factor of seeing the monorail quickly subsides once you’re in your room and trying to get some sleep before your next park day only to be met by the squeaks and squeals of the monorail as it pulls in and out of the hotel building. While this doesn’t happen completely through the night, it can be a nuisance if you’re someone who likes to go to bed early (as transportation runs about an hour after Magic Kingdom closes which can be super late sometimes) or likes to sleep in a bit on vacation (since the monorails start transporting about an hour before the park opens –especially since its character meal, Chef Mickey’s, is a popular spot for early risers to see some characters right away)! Monorail at the Contemporary Resort So there you have it — our complete list ranking Disney World’s deluxe hotels from totally chill to truly chaotic! We hope we were able to shed some light on a few of the factors you might not have considered about your upcoming stay just yet, and ultimately make you comfortable with your preferred hotel. 4. Y’all. It is HOT in Disney World right now — we are not even joking. Not only that, though, it’s also humid (we’re not joking when we say it’s not the heat; it’s the humidity that gets you). Caribbean Beach Anyway, you know what that means, right? It means we’re going to give you our Disney World summer advice, like telling you to stay hydrated, stay cool, take advantage of air conditioning throughout Disney World, and pace yourself. But one thing that’s really enjoyable on a hot day is a nice frozen drink, right? Well, if you’re enjoying some pool time at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, that could be a little tricky because one bar is not serving frozen drinks right now. Banana Cabana at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is not serving frozen drinks right now. We noticed that the frozen drinks machines were missing when we recently visited. Here’s what the bar looked like previously; you can see that the frozen drinks machines are under the green mantel. Frozen drink machines under green mantle Here’s what that looks like now. The frozen drinks machines are obviously gone. Drink machines are gone So, why are there no more frozen drinks at Banana Cabana? Well, a Cast Member confirmed that a lightning strike during a thunderstorm over the weekend somehow affected the machines, so they were taken out. However, the drinks have not been removed from the online menus, so we can assume that they will return once the machines are fixed or replaced. Let’s face it — Banana Cabana is THE spot to go for frozen drinks and we doubt they’re gone for good. Banana Cabana We were also told that the thunderstorm caused some power outages at the resort, so it must’ve been a doozy. So, if you want to treat yourself to a frozen drink, you’ll just have to go somewhere else. However, other drinks are still being served here, so you can still order something tropical and cold if that’s what you’re craving. You can get other drinks here, though If all else fails, you can always easily hop on the Skyliner to enjoy drinks at any of the other Skyliner Hotels, like Bar Riva at Disney’s Riviera Resort, any of the bars at the EPCOT area hotels, including Boardwalk Joe’s, or at the pool bars at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort or Disney’s Pop Century Resort. There are plenty of options! Bar Riva We’ll check back with Banana Cabana again and let you know when the frozen drinks return, so you’ll want to stay tuned to DFB for more information. 5. Back in 2021, Disney purchased land in the Lake Nona area of Orlando to build a campus that would relocate thousands of Disney employees to Central Florida. Lake Nona Town Center ©Lake Nona They later announced that this plan was delayed as of June 2022 and the move was again delayed for over 3 years — before the official announcement was made pulling the plug on the project in May 2023. But that wasn’t before some Disney employees uprooted their lives and families at the request of the House of Mouse, and now, they’ve filed a lawsuit against the company for just that. The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits, but this latest one comes from within the House of Mouse itself. According to the Los Angeles Times, a lawsuit was filed on Tuesday against Disney in the Los Angeles County Superior Court over the failed move. Obtained Via the Orlando Business Journal The suit alleges that numerous workers followed the company’s calls, sold their Los Angeles homes, and moved to Central Florida — only for the project to be canceled. Plaintiffs Maria De La Cruz and George Fong — who are both still employed by Disney — alleged they were “fraudulently induced” to relocate to Florida by being led to believe they would lose their jobs if they turned down the move. Cinderella Castle According to the suit, De La Cruz and Fong agreed to relocate in November 2021 after Disney told affected employees they had 90 days to “consider and make the decision that’s best for them.” De La Cruz, a vice president of product design, sold her house in Altadena in May 2022. “Mr. Fong also sold his home, which was a particularly painful decision because it was the family home he had grown up in and inherited,” the suit alleges. Fong serves as a creative director of product design at Disney. His family home was in Los Angeles. But, one year after selling their homes and moving across the country, De La Cruz and Fong found out that Disney had canceled the Lake Nona project altogether. Spaceship Earth welcomes you to EPCOT… and to World Celebration! When the project was canceled, Disney gave a statement, saying: “Given the considerable changes that have occurred since the announcement of this project, including new leadership and changing business conditions, we have decided not to move forward with construction of the campus.” They did acknowledge that some employees had already moved and said they would be discussing the situation with individual employees, including making plans to move the employees back to California. However, the lawsuit alleges compensation packages offered to affected employees were inadequate and that several people refused to make the move, still remaining employed by Disney. Animal Kingdom Once Disney pulled the plug on the project, home prices in the Orlando area fell while Los Angeles home prices have climbed — along with interest rates. As for De La Cruz and Fong, they’ve made the move back to California anyway. Fong’s new South Pasadena home has “considerably less square footage than his previous Los Angeles home,” while De La Cruz is till in the process of moving back. The class-action lawsuit proposed would seek to represent “all current and former California Disney employees who relocated from California to Florida as a result of Disney’s announcement of the Lake Nona Project.” As for now, the damages being sought are unspecified and Disney has not yet responded to requests for comment. Hollywood Studios In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if Disney publicly responds to the suit or what ends up happening next. 7. It’s summer in Disney World, and you know what that means. It means a lot of heat and humidity with the occasional storm that will make it feel even hotter and more humid. Super Target If you’re visiting Disney World in the summer, you’ve probably seen us recommend some essentials like water bottles (because staying hydrated is even MORE important in the summer than at any other time of the year), cooling towels (these can be lifesavers), sunblock (you have to protect your skin), and more. One of the things we also often recommend are small portable fans that can create a little breeze for you when it just feels like the hot air outside is WAY too much. These are also small enough to keep in your park bag and just pull out whenever you need a cool spritz. The opening on these bottles are also large enough that you can add ice, which you’ll appreciate when it’s 100 degrees in Disney World. You can even get them in a variety of colors. And right now, you can save 20%, but honestly, these are a good bet even when they’re not on sale. Buy at Target Buy the JISULIFE Portable Neck Fan ©Target A neck fan is also a great portable way to stay cool in Disney World. Just having air blowing on your neck can make you feel a lot less miserable whether you’re waiting in line for a ride or just walking down Main Street, U.S.A. You can get from 4 to 16 hours with this baby, too (depending on what speed you set it for), plus it can be charged via USB. Buy at Target So be sure to grab some fans so you can stay comfortable if you’re planning on visiting Disney World (or anywhere else hot) this summer. 8. As soon as your feet hit that green floral carpet, you know you’ve made it. You’re home! And, in this case, home is actually Disney World. No matter how many times you’ve been to the parks and resorts, it never seems to get old. With new foods to try, new attractions to ride, and new nighttime shows to admire, every trip is different. Orlando International Airport But even a seasoned Disney professional runs into problems. Even a person who probably knows the parks better than their own hometown will make mistakes. So, what can go wrong on a simple Disney World vacation? What can go perfectly right? Time for a little trip report! Let’s start with a few of the issues I ran into on my trip. Now, I’m going to preface this by saying that this is not just a list of my complaints. This is not a long rant about everything wrong with Disney World. Sure, we all have our gripes with Disney, but I’m sharing my trip problems to help you avoid making the same mistakes. Do as I say; not as I do! Partner’s Statue The Case of the MISSING Umbrella I took a trip to Disney World in mid-June. If you know anything about Florida, you probably know that is a horrible, horrible idea. In my defense, I wouldn’t have chosen that date if it were up to me. But when you’re in Orlando, you go to Disney World — even in June. Predictably, the weather was mind-numbingly hot, humid, and rainy. Rain at EPCOT Now, as a Disney expert, I’m no dummy. I packed my favorite rain jacket AND a small, compact umbrella. It was actually my favorite umbrella. It had little smiley faces on it. My umbrella was carabiner-clipped inside the water bottle pocket of my travel backpack. It was securely fastened. Or so I thought. Stitch gets it My backpack (and my umbrella) made it safely through the airport and off the plane. But somewhere between the airport and my hotel room, my umbrella disappeared. Vanished. Was it a huge deal? No. But on day two of my trip, when there was a torrential downpour, even my trusty rain jacket couldn’t really protect me. I was bummed. And if you see a cute little pink smiley-face umbrella in Orlando, call me. 14 Amazon Essentials to Survive Rainy Days in Disney World RAIN This brings me to my next point. The rain. I planned my trip to give myself a few park days and a few “rest” days, where I was hoping to relax by the pool and read my book. Sounds nice, right? Well, of course, the day Mother Nature decided to bring excessive amounts of rain to Central Florida was the same day I was planning a relaxing pool day. Magic Kingdom My pool day turned into a resort day instead. Let this be a warning to you: even the best plans can go awry. Often, your day is controlled by things that are actually out of your control. You just gotta roll with it! Our Tips and Tricks for Conquering Rainy Days in Disney World The Long, Long Walk I paid for a standard room at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. My room was clean, the pillows were soft, and my neighbors were nice and quiet. Overall, I truly had no complaints about my stay. OK, that’s a lie. I did have one complaint. I ended up in one of the furthest hotel rooms from the lobby. I was staying in building four of the Rock section of the resort, and my room was right next to the parking lot. In fact, I was right next to Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort! All-Star Music Resort In normal conditions (a.k.a. not 100° weather), I would have no problem walking back to my room. But when meteorologists are literally warning people about “dangerous heat,” trust me when I say that walking to my room felt like walking through the inside of a giant oven. It was brutal. If you get bothered by heat like me, you might want to try and make a room request before your trip. EXTREME Heat Speaking of heat, I need to talk about it some more. According to the Weather Channel, the temperatures during the first part of my visit hit the high 90s. But that wasn’t the worst part. All-Star Music Resort The “RealFeel” temperatures estimated that some days actually felt like it was over 100 degrees outside. On one particularly brutal day, my phone informed me that the RealFeel was 109°. YIKES. WEATHER WARNING: Record Heat Predicted for Disney World OK, now, to be fair, let’s talk about some things that made me VERY happy during my trip. Hotel Groceries! I placed an Amazon Fresh order and had a case of water bottles, a pack of Coca-Cola, some granola bars, and a bunch of bananas delivered to my hotel. This made it nice and easy to enjoy a quick breakfast in the morning and have something to drink both in my room and in the parks. Get snacks and drinks delivered! We LOVE to recommend some kind of grocery delivery service if you’re planning a trip to Disney World. It can save you some money AND a walk down to the food court. Step-by-Step Guide to Ordering Instacart Grocery Delivery to Disney World I was SO EXCITED to try the new Espresso Croissant at my hotel food court. Espresso Croissant Good news — I loved it! It’s VERY sweet, but you can check out our full review below. Random new treats and limited-time desserts are so fun to discover. I keep a running list of some of my favorites and things I want to try, and it’s SO satisfying to check new items off my list. REVIEW: I Cannot Emphasize This Enough. Please Go to Disney World And Get This AS SOON AS YOU CAN. DUH — The Pool! Finally, I had a lovely time at the pool. The pool was never very crowded, so I had plenty of chairs to choose from, and it was so nice to sit and RELAX after a busy day in the parks. Pool The pool is typically open until around 11PM, so it’s nice to come back to your resort pool after spending the day in the parks. Plus, it’s a GREAT way to keep cool in the hot hot summer. Phew! Hope you enjoyed my little trip report. It’s always fun to take a quick trip down to Disney World, and I hope my fails (and favs) inspired you! 9. There are SO many snacks in Disney World these days, how do you choose which ones to buy?! Cinderella Castle The options vary from park to park and meal to meal, so it’s a challenge to know how to build your must-buy list. But in the summertime, that challenge gets a liiiittle bit easier — all we want is to have something cold and refreshing! And if you’re in the mood for a chilly treat on a hot day, there’s a new snack you need to try. A few days ago, the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor introduced the new S’mores Shake! New shake! This sweet treat is $8.99 and made with chocolate ice cream blended with marshmallows and graham cracker crumbles, topped with whipped cream, graham cracker crumbles, mini marshmallows, and hot fudge. It’s like a campfire snack in a cup! The new shake! Immediately, my first thought was that this is a LOT of chocolate! The chocolate ice cream is rich and smooth and very delicious, but if you’re not a chocolate fan, you’ll want to skip this one. There’s also a decent amount of hot fudge inside that adds a richer chocolate flavor. It’s quite chocolatey! The marshmallows help tone down the chocolate just a little bit, and they add a nice variety to the texture. There are marshmallow chunks and chocolate chips throughout the shake and I really liked those flavors and textures, but they kept getting stuck in my milkshake straw, which made it a challenge to drink. I would probably recommend getting a spoon to help you with those chunks. The chunks get stuck in the straw! The other flavors overshadow the graham cracker a little bit, but I’m a huge chocoholic, so I didn’t mind. Ultimately, I thought this was super delicious, just challenging to drink! And it’s quite rich, so you might want to split this with someone else. It’s always a good time for a milkshake. I definitely recommend Plaza Ice Cream Parlor as a great spot to grab a snack in Magic Kingdom. It’s the one spot there where you can get hard-packed ice cream, and if you get scoops, they’ll often put little chocolate Mickey ears on top! Plus, they offer a variety of sauces and toppings to make your own special creation. (My personal favorite is a scoop of chocolate with peanut butter sauce on top — YUM!) 11. Atlantic Hurricane season is upon us. Magic Kingdom during Hurricane Idalia 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season began on June 1st and will run through the end of November. While most years typically see major storm development during the later summer and early fall months, that’s not a guarantee. In fact, the first tropical storm of 2024 has been named — and could make a massive impact — this week. In addition to the potential Alberto storm, the National Hurricane Center is also monitoring a potential storm system off Florida’s Atlantic coast. According to the NHC’s Atlantic 7-Day Graphical Tropical Weather Outlook, “an area of showers and thunderstorms located several hundred miles east of the Bahamas is associated with a surface trough of low pressure.” The system could form over the next few days as it moves westward or west-northwestward, and the storm system is forecast to reach the coast of the southeastern United States by the end of the week (around June 20th–22nd). National Hurricane Center These are just the first two potential storms of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which appears like it ’s going to be an eventful one. If you’re in the path of either of these potential weather events, please stay safe and stay tuned to DFB for further updates. 3 Earthquakes Have Hit Disneyland in the Last Year. 12. Disney World goes through changes what feels like every day — you take a trip and then a month later, things are different! Magic Kingdom Attractions close for refurbishment or reimagining, new rides are opening, and we know there are some pretty big expansion plans and blue sky projects in the works for 2 of the 4 theme parks. If you’re heading to Disney World and trying to do everything you can, you may be choosing to buy Genie+ — Disney’s paid skip-the-line service. We have some important news though — CHANGES are coming to the system later this year that you need to know about. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Coming up very soon is the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom! (It’s already open for previews and opens to the public on June 28th!) This is a retheme of Splash Mountain, taking place in the same ride building and with the same ride system, just with a new story that occurs a year after the events of The Princess and The Frog film. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Disney has confirmed that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be part of Magic Kingdom’s regular Genie+ lineup, instead of being an Individual Lightning Lane selection (which is a separate, additional fee). This means you can pay for the Magic Kingdom (or multiple parks) Genie+ service and be quick requesting a return time for sometime during the day. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure We suggest being fast — they likely will sell out for at least the first few weeks the ride is open. You can also ride this ride at no additional cost by using the Virtual Queue that will open at 7AM and 1PM each day. Learn all about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure here! The System is Changing! Now, we’ll admit, it’s been a hot second since we’ve heard any update on this, but Disney did previously announce that they plan to simplify the Genie+ experience this year. Genie+ Disney specifically said, “We have heard from guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit, and we want you to know we are working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024.” This means that, similar to FastPass, guests may be able to choose a few attractions to experience at select times of the day before their visit begins. ©Disney As it currently stands, you can buy Genie+ beginning at Midnight on the day you want to use it, and you can book your first Lightning Lane as early as 7AM. But being able to book a few ahead of time will take MASSIVE amounts of stress off the shoulders of many families. MORE Simplification In addition to the quote above, Disney also mentioned that their plan is to “give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family.” Genie+ This means that, beyond the plan to pre-choose some rides ahead of your visit, Disney is also working on additional ways to simplify Genie+. What other options could there be? What would they look like? Fantastic questions…and no one has the answer to them yet. Screenshot My Disney Experience App We’re still waiting for Disney to tell us more about their Genie+ simplification plans, but be sure to stay tuned to DFB — we’ll tell you about the updates as soon as we hear them! 13. As the Disney Food Blog, it should come as no surprise that we take great interest in the dining options in and around Disney World. So when a Disney World restaurant is recognized by a major food magazine, you know we’ll be covering it! Waldorf Astoria Orlando Some of the best dining options at Disney World aren’t found at the parks, but instead at the hotels. Such is the case with the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. The first Waldorf Astoria to open outside of New York, this Disney World resort is home to a steakhouse that was just recognized as one of Florida’s BEST. Bull & Bear Restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando has earned accolades and recognition nationally, and now it can add another accolade to its accomplishments — one of the most legendary restaurants in Florida. Bull & Bear Recently, lifestyle magazine Southern Living named Bull & Bear one of Florida’s 17 Most Legendary Restaurants. Lauded for its intimate setting and lavished decor, Southern Living was also impressed by a menu that serves “innovative dishes that are unique to the Orlando location, and so fabled they’re known simply by a mononym: ‘the Lemon,’ a dessert that’s as delicious as it is deceptive. Tableside theatre using facilities like liquid nitrogen, gold leaf, and smoke infusion make for an evening that will go down as a family legend.” Bull & Bear Short Rib Wellington Bull & Bear was one of two Orlando restaurants selected by Southern Living — the other being Lee & Rick’s Oyster Bar. La Fraise Bull & Bear has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Restaurants in the United States by Open Table and serves steakhouse classics and other fare such as fried chicken, Pasta Explosion, and a Chateaubriand For Two. The restaurant also boasts high levels of personalized service, elite tableside preparation, a team of experienced sommeliers, exquisite views, and much more. Bull & Bear Last December, we visited the restaurant to try the $300(!!!) Bull and Bear Carving Board, which comes with Tomahawk Steak, Fried Chicken, Maine Lobster Tail, and a Choice of Two Sides. Surprisingly, we felt the price was worth it and, overall, the meal quality and passionate staff justified the hype around this acclaimed restaurant. To read our full review, click the link below! 15. Some Disney souvenirs are only useful at certain times. If you get a Disney-themed Halloween costume, you really can only use that during spooky season (unless you have a Disney costume party at another time of the year, which we think should totally happen). If you get a Christmas tree ornament, that’s pretty much just coming out for the holidays. Those Disney flip-flops are probably limited to the summer season. But there’s one souvenir that’s 100% useful ALL YEAR ROUND! Cinderella Castle You can grab this handy item on Amazon, which makes it all the more convenient. Get the Interchangeable Disney Door Sign Welcome to Our Home sign If you love Disney-themed home decor, this front door sign is for you! The sign says “Welcome To Our Home” and the “o” in “home” is Mickey-shaped. That shape is interchangeable, and the sign comes with a BUNCH of different seasonal Mickey designs. All the different Mickeys In fact, there are seventeen different seasonal Mickeys: a traditional Mickey with his red shorts and yellow buttons, an Easter Mickey with a decorated eggshell and bunny ears, a party Mickey with confetti and a hat (for birthdays or other celebrations), a snowy Mickey for winter, a fall Mickey with a leaf and acorns, a football-themed Mickey, a Mickey glove hand, a Mickey jack-o-lantern, a Santa Mickey, a “love” Mickey for Valentine’s Day, a lemon Mickey for summer, a Donald Duck-themed Mickey, a green and pastel floral Mickey for spring, Minnie, a turkey Mickey for Thanksgiving, a St. Patrick’s Day Mickey, and a Fourth of July American flag Mickey. You’ll never have to put this sign in storage! Instead, you can just swap out the Mickey for the next upcoming holiday or event (though in my house, I’ll have trouble convincing my husband to switch it off of the football Mickey, as he celebrates and anticipates that season pretty much all year round). The sign hanging on the door At just $23, this item is a great deal for a home decor piece that you can use throughout the seasons. You’re not likely to find home decor in the parks for that cheap! The sign is made of MDF wood and painted to look vintage. The diameter of the full sign is about 10.2″, and the Mickey shapes are about 2.3″ wide. Out of almost 500 reviews on Amazon, about 76% of those are 5-star reviews. Customers said they like how easy it is to change the theming of the sign, and many noted that it makes a great housewarming gift, too! Shop this item on Amazon here! 16. Is there anything better than…FRIED DOUGH? Funnel Cake Funnel cake, churros, beignets…you can find them all in Disney World, and they are a few of my favorite things. But today, I come to you with some sad news, because one of my favorite forms of fried dough is GONE. GONE, I tell you. Here at Disney Food Blog, we take a meander through Disney World’s menus every single day. And today we noticed something that gave us a JOLT. Hushpuppies are GONE from the menu at Columbia Harbour House. Columbia Harbour House Columbia Harbour House is a fan-favorite quick-service restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It serves up fried fish, chicken tenders, and more…along with sides like french fries and hushpuppies. Well, it DID serve hushpuppies… Hushpuppies Surely they weren’t GONE?! It had to be a mistake. So one of our reporters hustled on over to Liberty Square today to check. And guys, it wasn’t a mistake. They’re off the menu. Cast Members said they didn’t think they are coming back — and that they don’t understand the change either, because hushpuppies were a very popular side here. Hushpuppies RIP, delicious balls of fried cornbread goodness. And that’s not all, here are the other menu changes we spotted at Columbia Harbour House today: The New England Shrimp Boil, Grilled Shrimp Skewer, Sea Captains Fish Sandwich, Mixed Greens Salad, Chicken Strips, and Plant-Based Crab Cake Sandwich have all been removed from the menu. Some new things have been added to the menu, as well, including Shrimp Skewer Platter, Fried Shrimp Platter, Shrimp Salad, Fish Platter, and Chicken Platter. And there’s a new vegan item, as well — the Crispy Mushroom Roll. And we’ve gotta say, it looks great! New vegan sandwich at Columbia Harbour House Now it does look like some of these menu changes are tweaks, rather than whole new items. For example, we noticed that the items on the Trio Platter at the restaurant used to be described like this: “Combination of Fried Shrimp, Chicken Strips, and Battered Fish served with Hushpuppies and choice of Side.” And the Trio Platter description now reads like this: “Combination of Beer-battered Shrimp, Chicken, and Beer-Battered Fish served with French Fries.” (We highly recommend this Trio Platter by the way — it’s a great value, and a great meal to split if you’re into that kind of thing!) Trio Platter at Columbia Harbour House (the “old” version) We didn’t get a chance to stop and try these new items today, but rest assured we’ll be back SOON with a review of what’s new at Columbia Harbour House. 17. I’m here to tell you about my FAVORITE character meal, and my favorite character meal HACK in Magic Kingdom! Let’s go! Yep, I’m talking about Crystal Palace! This Magic Kingdom restaurant is home to a delightful character buffet during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But if you can’t decide between breakfast or lunch? You don’t have to! I recently made a trip to Crystal Palace where I got to experience TWO meals. And today, I’m bringing my full review of the experience and telling you how I did it! Atmosphere Crystal Palace is located on the corner of Main Street, U.S.A., and Adventureland in Magic Kingdom, and you can see the influences from both lands in its exterior architecture. On the left side, the decor is influenced by the turn of the century styles… The check-in kiosk …while on the right side, you’ll find a much more Adventureland-inspired jungly environment. This half is complete with green awnings and lots of foliage to help complete the transition between the two lands! The other side of Crystal Palace However, once you step inside, it’s all bright and welcoming! Here, Winnie the Pooh and friends are celebrating their Friendship Day, and you’re invited. The entrance Disney even has little topiaries of the characters you’ll meet in the restaurant! Tigger and Piglet Seating around the restaurant is a mix of tables, booths, and banquettes. You might find yourself seated fairly close to another party, simply so that there’s a bit more floor space for the characters to move around between tables. Seating Once I was seated, my server gave me the autograph card for the meal, with everyone’s signatures on it! This is a great keepsake to remember your time at Crystal Palace. All the autographs! And during my meal, I got to see an adorably friendly Piglet… Piglet …a very bouncy, flouncy Tigger… Tigger …Eeyore — complete with his tail… Eeyore …and of course, Winnie the Pooh! Sometimes, if the character rotation is moving slow, you may have to meet one of the characters in the middle of the restaurant instead of having them come to your table. That’s what happened with Pooh during my visit. Winnie the Pooh Now that we’ve seen the characters, it’s time to check out the eats! Menu The TRICK to getting to enjoy both breakfast and lunch at Crystal Palace is to make your dining reservation between 10:30AM and 11AM. When I arrived at 11AM, the buffet area was split half with breakfast items and half with lunch! Breakfast Buffet Kicking off things with the breakfast buffet, we have the dessert area, which is home to those iconic churro Mickey waffles. BREAKFAST When you get around to the regular buffet, you’ll find classics like scrambled eggs, pancakes, and regular Mickey waffles. The classics Of course, there’s a pastry section… Pastries …with plenty of jams, butters, and sauces to choose from. Toppings And for those who want something healthy, you’ll want to check out the fruit and veggie bar! Fruit For some slightly fancier options, you could try the Traditional Roast Beef Hash, the Kenlan Tofu Curry, the Denver Frittata, or the Mediterranean Frittata. Breakfast buffet They also had Disney’s iconic Cheesy Breakfast Potatoes — these things are a hit at any breakfast buffet. Must have potatoes! For savory eats, you can make your own chicken and waffles with the Crispy Fried Chicken and Mickey Waffles or put together your own shrimp and grits. More basics Like usual, they also had sausage and bacon on the buffet. Waffles and bacon That’s everything from breakfast, but let’s take a look at lunch! Lunch Buffet When things swapped over for lunchtime, Disney rolled out an entirely new buffet! Starting things off with the kids’ section, we’ve got chicken tenders, mac and cheese, mini beef quesadillas, and cheesy pizza bread. Kids buffet From there, you come to the bread section…which is PLENTIFUL. So many different carbs to choose from! Bread There’s also a salad bar with different kinds of lettuce… Salad bar …as well as salad toppings and fruit. Salad bar On the main buffet, we’ve got Country Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. Chicken There’s also a selection of roasted veggies and a bowl of smoked cheddar grits. Lunch buffet You can either eat your Shrimp Creole on top of those grits, or you might prefer it on the basmati rice instead. Lunch buffet And then to round out the list, we’ve got Vegetable Chana Masala, Honey-glazed Salmon, and four-cheese macaroni and cheese. YUM! Lunch buffet Now it’s time to make those plates and DIG IN. Eats To start, I kicked my meal off with a breakfast plate! I grabbed some samples of a few items from the buffet, including the delicious cheesy potato casserole, which was fantastic as usual. The potatoes were soft with a little bit of chew with the right amount of saltiness. Breakfast plate Another item I had to try was the churro Mickey waffle! This was spectacular with cinnamon sugar coating on the outside. It was soft in the middle and a little crispy on the edges, but still delicious even after it cooled off. Churro waffle! To round out my breakfast eats, I made a bowl of shrimp and grits. The grits were fairly gritty and needed a little more butter, but were mildly cheesy. The shrimp had a nice kick to them, but this definitely wasn’t the best shrimp and grits I’ve had in Disney World. Shrimp and Grits After I sampled the breakfast buffet, it was time for lunch! I started out with some steamed broccoli, which was nicely salted and had a hint of spice from red pepper flakes. Lunch plate After that, it was time for the four-cheese macaroni and cheese, which was cheesy and creamy with a hint of garlic. It had some tang from the green onions and a savory flavor from the bacon bits. Macaroni and cheese For protein, I snagged the Country Fried Chicken which was nice and peppery. It was a little bit dry but crispy on the outside. Honestly, it was a smidge on the gristly side and hard to cut into. Overall overcooked and probably not the best cut of chicken. Chicken On the other hand, the Miso-glazed Salmon was moist and tender and melted in my mouth. It was a little sweet from the glaze with saltiness at the end. I would definitely get this again! Salmon So what did I think of the meal overall? Overall It’s important to note that I was charged for lunch, which is $61 per adult, whereas breakfast is $48 per adult. This is likely because my reservation time was 11AM, which is when the meal officially switches over (though the breakfast food stays on the buffet a bit longer). My meal Even with a meal that costs over $60 per person, I felt like this was a GREAT deal. Not only did I get a character experience, but I also got to eat off two different buffets. Overall, the food was pretty delicious, and the character interactions were fun! Nosh or Not? Visit Winnie the Pooh and friends if… You’re a fan of characters from the Hundred Acre Wood. The only other place you can meet these characters is over in Fantasyland, and this is a great alternative if you don’t want to wait in line. You have a big appetite! This is a great option to eat a lot of food for one set price, and they’ve got a variety of eats for different tastes. You want to get breakfast AND lunch! If you want to use my hack to get both breakfast and lunch at this restaurant by scheduling a mid-morning reservation, I would definitely recommend it. Skip past this spot and dine elsewhere if… You’re on a budget. This meal isn’t exactly cheap, especially if you have a large group. So if you’d like to save some dough, this may not be for you. You have small appetites. To get your money’s worth, you’ll want to be able to eat a decent amount during this meal. You don’t enjoy character meals. Not everyone loves character meals, so if you fall into that camp, then this might not be the restaurant for you. Character Autograph Card That’s a wrap on my visit to Crystal Palace — thanks for coming along! Stay tuned to DFB for more restaurant reviews and food updates from Disney World. 19. I travel A LOT, and I’m always looking for ways to save a bit of money — so that I can fund more travel! Southwest plane I use Costco Travel to rent cars at the cheapest rates, I house sit and pet sit in exchange for lodging sometimes, and of course, I shop for bargains on items I might need in my travels. Now since I work here at DFB, I obviously spend a whole lot of time in Florida — and that means I use a whole lot of sunscreen! I recommend getting your sunscreen at discount retailers like TJ Maxx and Marshall’s — which is where I usually find my favorite brand, Coola. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. I love Coola sunscreen because it feels hydrating — more like a lotion than the gluey feeling of some sunscreens — and it comes in delicious scents. It’s also vegan and organic. Yes, it’s bougie — which is why I like to buy it at the discount stores where I can usually find it for 50-70% off regular retail. ©Amazon But what does all of this have to do with trips to NINE Dollar Trees? OK, OK, I’m getting to that! So, I was recently in Savannah, Georgia, and I went into a Dollar Tree there for a bar of soap. And I spotted some sunscreen. $1.25 for sunscreen? Could it possibly be good? I didn’t buy it, and BOY do I wish right now I would have. Because as I drove to Orlando the next day, I started thinking, Hey! I should test that in Disney World and talk about it on DFB. No problem, right? I’ll just run to the Dollar Tree nearest where I stay in Orlando and grab some. I did just that — but the shelf was empty. There are tons of Dollar Trees, though, right? So, I went to another — also sold out. And another… Dollar Tree And that brings us to now. All in all, I have visited NINE Dollar Trees in Orlando in a week — and all of them are sold out of this sunscreen. I talked to employees in a couple of stores who said that it sells out very quickly anytime it comes in. So, I have no test to report on right now, but I’ll keep trying! Dollar Tree Was this a waste of time? Nope. In fact, now that I know how quickly this sunscreen sells out, I’m convinced it must be pretty good. And if it can save you (and me!) some money, I’ll be glad to find it and give you my full review. Keep following DFB, and I’ll keep bringing you more money-saving travel hacks! I Travel Full-Time. 21. McDonald’s NEW ice cream is getting rave reviews. McDonald’s McDonald’s has a LONG history of ice cream treats, including the requisite cones, sundaes and shakes, as well many, many McFlurry variants. In that tradition, the chain recently launched a new vegan ice cream option for those who don’t or can’t eat dairy. However, there’s just one catch: If you live in the U.S., for now you’ll have to cross the Atlantic to try it. At their U.K. locations, McDonald’s has introduced two new vegan ice cream options: Choco Scoop and Strawberry Scoop. The two new ice creams are offered in containers as opposed to soft serve – – certainly a relief to anyone who’s ever dealt with the seemingly inevitable issue of a broken McDonald’s ice cream machine – – and have been getting some rave reviews on Reddit since they were introduced. In particular, many users specifically praised the chocolate flavor, with one writing that it tasted like “a cold chocolate mousse but was very tasty.” McDonald’s Vegan ice cream As of now, the test run for the two vegan ice cream flavors is scheduled to run through September 3rd. Currently, theres no announced plan to test Choco Scoop or Strawberry Scoop in the chain’s United States locations. However, given their seeming success in the U.K., we would think it’s only a matter of time before they make it over to McDonald’s land of origin. Vegan ice cream isn’t the only plant-based item McDonald’s is currently testing. The chain is currently offering the McPlant – – a “a juicy burger made with a plant-based patty, co-developed with Beyond Meat” at a limited number of locations in Texas and California. According to the chain, the burger is “sizzled on a flat iron grill, then topped with slivered onions, tangy pickles, crisp shredded lettuce, Roma tomato slices, ketchup, mustard, mayo and a slice of melty American cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun.” McDonald’s specifies that there’s a chance the item may expand to further locations, writing “While it’s only available in a very limited number of restaurants* right now, we’ll be sure to let you know if the McPlant becomes more available.” The McPlant McDonald’s new vegan ice cream options – – currently only available in U.K. – – are another tantalizing step toward the iconic fast food chain offering a full range of plant-based products on their menu. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates on McDonald’s new menu options. Ultimate Guide to Vegan Food in Magic Kingdom Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 23. During summer, many families do lots of traveling, which often means flying. American Airlines Of course, you know to prepare for potential delays and cancelations, but there’s another storm brewing that could potentially affect flights coming up, and that’s a strike. American Airlines flight attendants could be striking — what does that mean for your summer travel? According to CNBC, the labor union that represents American Airlines flight attendants rejected a deal on Wednesday that offered flight attendants an immediate 17% pay increase and a new formula that would increase profit sharing. ©American Airlines The airline and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (the union) have struggled to reach an agreement, disagreeing on many major points, one of which is pay. Talks have been continuing without a deal, bringing the possibility of a strike closer. Reportedly, the union has warned flight attendants to prepare for a strike. ©American Airlines Both sides are scheduled to meet with federal mediators next week as a last-ditch effort to come to an agreement. Strikes among of flight attendants are quite rare, with the last one happening back in 2010 with Spirit Airlines pilots. If they can’t come to an agreement, however, a strike will occur. American Airlines So why did the union reject the deal? Well, Julie Hedrick, the union’s national president said in a statement that “the airline’s focus should be on preparing a longer-term deal with the flight attendants” and that the deal they were offered was not that. In short, a quick pay increase did not address all the issues they were bringing to the table, including the ones that require longer-term solutions. ©Nick Oxford/Reuters But what does this mean for your summer travel? The “good” news is that if a strike is called, the federal mediators would send out an official release, which would take several weeks. This means it would potentially hit toward the end of summer travel, which still isn’t ideal, but would buy travelers a little bit of time. Looking for more recent travel news? 25. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure officially opens in the Magic Kingdom on June 28th. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure For the past couple of weeks, Disney has been holding previews for Cast Members, the media, Disney Vacation Club members, and Annual Passholders. Today, June 18th, is an Annual Passholder preview day in Magic Kingdom. But things have hit a major snag. Disney World Annual Passholders received push notifications in the Disney World App at about 12:45PM saying that today’s 1PM Virtual Queue enrollment will not be available. Disney World Push Notification Annual Passholders who had a park reservation for today but had not joined the 7AM queue, were greeted with this information in the app, saying that virtual queues are “closed” at this time. The ride is not running at the time of the writing of this post. Message in My Disney Experience Disney World has not announced a cause for the cancelation today, so we don’t know if the ride is expected to be down for a lengthy amount of time and therefore the 7AM virtual queue boarding groups might take all day to work through.
