Many people dream of living in a Disney World park someday, and with Disney’s Storyliving Communities on the rise, that could become somewhat of a reality! ©Disney The last we heard of the Disney Storyliving Community planned for North Carolina, called Asteria, it seemed that the company may have hit a snag in its building plans. However, now, just a few months later, there’s a new update that things are moving along once again! Asteria is the second Storyliving by Disney Community currently in the works — the first is Cotino, located in California. ©Disney Back in January 2024, it was reported that a local non-profit, The Haw River Assembly, was hoping that Disney and DMB Development would take environmental impacts into consideration when building the plans for the Asteria community. This included keeping the existing tree canopy, building larger stormwater basins than the current code requires, and working to protect Pittsboro residents (and future Asteria residents) from water pollution. ©Disney Now, WRAL News out of North Carolina has reported that developers of the Disney development in Chatham County have spent $23.3 million on the first piece of land for the residential community. This first piece spans 217 acres of the currently planned 1500 acre project. ©WRAL This is the first step in a nine step process to purchase the entire 1500 acres, and “DMB/SWVP Raleigh, an LLC tied to Scottsdale, Arizona-based real estate developer DMB Development, and Stanley Living at CP, an LLC tied to Disney, submitted preliminary plans of the layout to the town of Pittsboro.” These plans should become available to the public in May. ©WRAL This new community is planned to include 4,000 single-family and multi-family homes with home sales beginning by 2027. We’ll be keeping up with the latest news to see when those plans are released publicly so we can take a look, as well as when the next purchase may be made. ©WRAL As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news, both in the parks and hotels and beyond! Technology is constantly changing and updating. Disney World tested the technology in 2021 The latest technology craze seems to be facial recognition. Our phones use it to unlock and approve purchases, Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park uses it to get into the park and unlock lockers, and airports use it to verify your identity. Well, now, facial recognition could be replacing even more of your air travel experience. According to a report by The Times, facial recognition technology could eliminate both check-in and boarding passes for air travel. This process has started to be streamlined, as both check-in and your boarding pass can be obtained and done at home via your airline’s website or mobile app. However, facial recognition technology could eliminate this step in the travel process. Southwest Counter at MCO This has the potential to be the “biggest shake-up in 50 years.” Passengers will be able to upload their passports to their phones and pass through airports with just their faces! The technology is set to debut in two to three years. According to the report, “The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the UN body responsible for policy, is tearing up existing rules for airports and airlines and creating a new ‘digital travel credential’, allowing passport information stored on devices to be used for travel.” Orlando International Airport You can say goodbye to checking in at a check-in desk or on your phone as passengers will instead be able to download a “journey pass” to their phone when they book a flight, and changes will be automatically made if there are any updates made to the booking. Since there will be no check-in, airlines will know a passenger’s intention to fly once their face is scanned at the airport. Orlando International Airport This new update will require the “physical infrastructure at airports to be upgraded so they have facial recognition technology and the ability to read a passport from a mobile device. Crucially, the physical infrastructure will only verify the information — matching face to passport — and not store it, to remove the risk of data breaches.” Passenger details are wiped within 15 seconds of each contact with a ‘touchpoint.’ This new technology will allow passengers to move about the airport without needing to take their phone or passport out. Orlando International Airport So, how exactly does it work? ©The Times While this tech has not been announced for the States, we look forward to seeing how facial recognition could transform the airport experience. Universal has quietly announced a loophole to their hefty parking fees at one of their newest hotels! Universal Helios Grand Hotel Ever since we got to lay eyes inside Helios Grand Hotel we’ve been enamored by its charms and we can’t wait until we can step inside for our first stays inside their plush hotel rooms and enjoy their gorgeous amenities. But, if you’re familiar with Universal’s hotels you may remember even hotel guests are subject to paying overnight parking fees and we’ve discovered a way around one of the largest we’ve seen at a Universal Orlando hotel yet! There’s a lot to be excited about for Universal Orlando already this year with even more on the way. Soon, the closest Universal Orlando hotel to Epic Universe will finally be open welcoming its first visitors through its doors on to their hotel rooms, Epic Universe, and restaurants. Universal Helios Grand Hotel We’ve already had a chance to step inside for a bit and marvel at its wondrous design, but we’re most particularly interested in the unique restaurants and bars you’ll find here. Helios Grand Hotel is home to some up and coming restaurants meant to send our minds (and tastes buds) to a galaxy beyond our own. We’re itching for the chance to try it all once the hotel opens, and best of all, you can too even if you’re not a hotel guest! Bar Helios Reservations for several of Helios Grand Hotel’s restaurants and sought-after bars including Bar Helios and Flora Taverna are now available online through Resy, but no one seems to be talking about how much you can expect to pay to park at this hotel if you’re planning to come enjoy the dining experiences here. Welcome to Helios Grand Hotel Parking as a day visitor for Helios Grand Hotel is currently set at $125 plus tax, per vehicle, per day for self-parking, and $128 plus tax, per vehicle, per day for daily valet. OUCH! That’s a hefty parking fee to park at this hotel just to enjoy some eats, but there’s a secret way around this hefty parking price tag you’ll need to know about before you dine here. ©Loews Hotels Universal Orlando has a very active social media presence and is known to encourage their visitors and Annual Passholders to ask questions that can be answered by their team online. So when reservations for these restaurants became available to book, these steep parking prices made a few folks nervous to book their reservations to shell out money for a nice meal AND such a hefty parking fee, and that’s exactly the question one person posed to Universal online. Flora Taverna ©Universal In their post, the question asked on Universal Orlando’s Annual Passholder Facebook page was “Does anyone know if you have to pay for parking if you just want ot come to eat at Helios?” In response, Universal left a comment detailing how you could get parking fees waived when dining at Helios Grand Hotel. In their response, Universal stated, “Non-registered Guests who dine at Universal Helios Grand Hotel and spend a minimum amount at select venues can have their parking validated. To do this, a minimum of $50 must be spent at Bar Helios and $75 must be spent at Flora Taverna” ©Facebook Their response also outlines that parking for dining experiences is limited to 4 hours. and if your parking time exceeds that, the normal daily self-parking rate will apply (pricing subject to change). CityWalk This seems like a fair trade to us. With this hotel being mere steps away from Universal’s newest theme park, it certainly makes it a prime location for everyone to want to flock to and potentially dine at the hotel and linger for a bit. This validation is a trade off to ease the cost of parking to those looking to enjoy the hotel’s dining options while also keeping parking spaces open for hotel guests checking in for their stays and revolving the parking availability for diners. However, if you’re looking just to come over to the hotel and take a look around, your best bet to do this is to park at Universal’s parking garages for the theme parks, and take the hotel shuttle bus round trip to and from your car. Don’t go far because we’ll be trying out all of these new restaurants as soon as Helios Grand Hotel opens for the first time! Be sure to stay tuned with us right here at DFB. Spring has sprung along with some familiar faces who have stopped by to visit Disney Parks! From Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco enjoying a day at the Disneyland Resort, to Ke Huy Quan visiting Shanghai Disney Resort, the stars sure know how to celebrate this vibrant season. See how the stars kept the laughter and memories blooming as they spent time with their friends and family! Selena Gomez Alix Earle entered The Twilight Zone while riding The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror with her family during a recent trip to Walt Disney World. They even made time for matching ears and a Mickey shaped pretzel! And outside of Disney Parks, here’s where else you may have spotted familiar faces… SXSW At SXSW, Robert Downey Jr. crashed the Disney Experiences panel with Avengers Campus updates to share. During Robert’s surprise appearance at SXSW, he even called the Imagineers working on the new experiences, “the living embodiment of the Stark Enterprises mission statement.” Jonas Con At Jonas Con, the Jonas Brothers announced that they will participate in the Disneyland Resort 70th anniversary by singing the official celebration theme song “Celebrate Happy.” Beginning May 16, 2025, and running through summer 2026, the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration will honor seven decades of happiness and many moments of joy in the making. Whether you’re planning on taking your FIRST-EVER Disney World vacation, you’re planning on staying in a Disney World hotel for the first time, or you just want to collect as much hotel info as possible, you’ve come to the right place! Swan and Dolphin Hotels We often explore the Disney World hotels that WE think are the best for Disney World guests, new and returning. We consider theming, convenience, and recent renovations. However, some of our favorite Disney World hotels aren’t even owned by Disney! The Swan and Dolphin Resort hotels are Marriott-owned hotels that partner with Disney to give you many of those similar theme park perks that you’d also receive along with a Disney-owned resort stay. Swan and Dolphin Hotel Perks include: Early theme park entry and the deluxe resort-exclusive Extended Evening hours Free transportation to and from the parks The 7-day Lightning Lane booking window versus the 3-day one The Swan and Dolphin are also both within walking distance to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Granted, you’re still gonna be walking 15-25 minutes one way to reach these parks — BUT if the complimentary shuttle service isn’t something you want to wait on, this can be a solid plan B! View from the Swan Reserve So why would you choose Swan and Dolphin versus one of the Disney-owned resorts? We’ve got 3 key reasons. The first is that the Swan and Dolphin not only has nice standard rooms available, but it also has really nice, really spacious suites that you can book, as well — some with dining rooms, some with separate bedrooms, some with multiple bathrooms, some with INCREDIBLE views of EPCOT right outside your window. The presidential suites even have a piano in their main living space. A PIANO. The Dolphin The next reason is that the restaurants here should NOT be slept on. These are some high-profile joints with plenty of tasty eats. While we don’t always talk about them as much as other Disney World hotel restaurants, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily skippable — whether or not you’re staying there. Todd’s English bluezoo The biggest selling point for MANY is that you can use your past Marriott Bonvoy Points to help pay for your future Swan and Dolphin stay! So even if this is your first time going to Disney, if you’ve taken trips to other places and have racked up points with your FREE Marriott Bonvoy membership by staying at other Marriott Resorts, you can use these points toward a Swan and Dolphin room! Bonvoy The Swan and Dolphin is a solid option for those who want to pull themselves out of all the Disney-ness for a bit and stay at a place that’s sophisticated, food-driven, and possibly more affordable (ESPECIALLY if you’re part of the Marriott Loyalty Program). You can basically find Christmas ornaments anywhere around Disney World — including stores that specialize in Christmas! Lets take a look at the first page. ©Hallmark Hallmark is giving us a lot of classic Mickey and Minnie ornaments, for the kids and the kids at heart! Some of our favorites here are the Mickey and Minnie wearing one Christmas sweater, the Mickey in his office, or the old fashioned white and black Mickey walking with Pluto! It even lights up and plays music! ©Hallmark Welcome foolish mortals, to the part of the catalog featuring Haunted Mansion ornaments! These ornaments are going to be must-grabs for the Haunted Mansion fans. The collection has ornaments of both the Disneyland AND Disney World Haunted Mansion attraction buildings. You can see ornaments of iconic ghosts like the Hitchhiking Ghosts, singing busks, and the organ player. Madame Leota and the groundskeeper are also a part of the collection. We sure love this set! ©Hallmark The next page features some of our favorite Disney characters! Look at the Pooh Bear ornament of him dressed up as Tigger. Or the adorable Berlioz, Toulouse, and Marie Aristocat ornament. You’ll find characters like Kermit, Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, Alice, and more! Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District (say that fast!) is in the process of a total overhaul! Downtown Disney While many new stores and restaurants have already opened as part of this ongoing refurbishment, even more change is on the way as a new permit was filed to demolish a longstanding Downtown Disney building. Earl of Sandwich is a Downtown Disney favorite, and it is genuinely a cockroach as it has survived multiple closure attempts. But don’t worry—this sandwich shop will still be around when the Downtown Disney transformation is complete. Earl of Sandwich As a quick history lesson, Earl of Sandwich used to be located between the AMC and the Disneyland Hotel. The AMC, along with the strip of stores that Earl of Sandwich was in, no longer exists. This area is now home to Din Tai Fung, a food court, some Disney stores, and a stage and seating area. Parkside Market Earl of Sandwich then moved into the building that La Brea Bakery was once in. This location is still open and includes a sit-down restaurant. Earl of Sandwich knew that its days were numbered as Porto’s Bakery would eventually take over this coveted spot. In anticipation of this, Earl of Sandwich has a temporary mobile unit between the old ESPN Zone building at the Star Wars Trading Post. Both locations are currently open. Earl of Sandwich Tavern Well, it was recently announced that a construction permit for the demolition of the old La Brea Bakery building and two of the ticket booths near the entrance of Disney California Adventure has been officially filed. This building will soon be demolished Don’t worry; Earl of Sandwich will still be around at its temporary mobile location until the new two-story building is built. This new building will include a quick-service walk-up counter, a sit-down Earl of Sadwich Tavern, and an upstairs bar. It is scheduled to open later this year! Earl’s future home Even more new restaurants are coming to Disneyland’s shopping and dining district. Last year, Tortilla Joe’s closed to make way for two new restaurants: Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, which are currently under construction. Plus, even more work is being done as new stores like Lululemon are planned to occupy the former ESPN Zone. We’ve got not-so-great news coming out of Disneyland Resort. “it’s a small world” under refurbishment One of the most iconic attractions in the park, “it’s a small world” has been closed for refurbishment since the holiday edition of the ride was open for the holiday season at the end of 2024. Previously, the attraction was slated to reopen at the end of this month, but Disney has just announced that opening date has been pushed back. Now, instead of reopening on April 25th, ‘it’s a small world’ will reopen on May 9th. “it’s a small world” However, we are excited to see that the new Coco scene will still be added to the attraction when it reopens! This new scene will feature Miguel and his trusted alebrije, Dante, as they join the other kids in song. ©Disney Additionally, Disney announced a few months ago that a new verse of the beloved “it’s a small world” song would be added to the attraction on July 17th! This new, third verse was written by Richard M. Sherman “in his final Disney contribution” and goes like this: “Mother Earth unites us in heart and mind And the love we give makes us humankind Through our vast wondrous land When we stand hand in hand It’s a small world after all.” While we’re bummed we have to wait a few extra weeks for this attraction to open, we’re looking forward to seeing it when it’s complete! With the sauce Finding a snack that hits the spot when you’ve had so many sugary treats around Disney might feel like a challenge, especially when you need one quick. Disneyland’s hard at work preparing for the 70th anniversary and welcoming back entertainment, but one particular new eat really piqued our curiosities. We headed out in search of one of the newest savory snacks to try out at Disney and our search led us over to a popular spot at Downtown Disney! This shopping and dining district sits between Disneyland’s two parks and offers up some delicious treats and eats to snack on till your heart’s content and you find the strength to finish your shopping. It’s a great place to stop if you’re craving something Disney but not looking to head into the parks in search of your next snack or meal. Downtown Disney We made our way over to Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs to try out one of their latest creations. This cozy snack stand is just right to pick up some savory yet zany corn dogs meant to awaken your taste buds. This spot’s become so popular that Disney added another location over at Disney World right on the walkway at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort. Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs This visit we were in search of the Meatball-Sub Dog that’s made of meatballs and mozzarella cheese, all fried together in a corn dog batter. This new dog will cost you $15, comes served with a side of marinara sauce for dipping and a bag of Lay’s potato chips, and is only around for a limited time. Meatball-sub Dog Admittedly, we were a little unsure of how good this one would taste, but we’re happy to report that we were pleasantly surprised. We didn’t quite know how this one works, but it does!! This huge corn dog has chewy meatballs and TONS of ooey gooey cheese! Gooey cheese The meatballs were well flavored and the corn dog batter encasing it is crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside! It is served with a side of cold marinara sauce, too. Corn Dog selections The sauce is well seasoned and brings all the flavors together! If you ask nicely, you might be able to snag another side of sauce for this huge corn dog! We’ll leave you with a word of caution, though. Be sure to eat it fast, so the cheese doesn’t cool down — that makes it thicker and harder to appreciate its cheesiness! The side of potato chips and Parmesan cheese packets were a nice addition to the offering and went well with the corn dog. Overall, we’d recommend grabbing this as a meal or a snack if you’re open to sharing! We’re constantly reviewing the latest food updates and menu changes at Disney! Disney World can be an overwhelming place for introverts, with the resort’s theme parks and water parks often teeming with people in all corners. Which can make it even more important to have a peaceful hotel to return to after an overwhelming day. Crowds However, there are some Walt Disney World hotels that – – whether due to layout, popularity, or geographic location – – are better suited for introverted guests than others. Port Orleans Located near Disney Springs, the massive Port Orleans complex is made up of two resorts: Port Orleans Resort French Quarter and Port Orleans Resort Riverside (the backstory there is… complicated, but suffice to say it was formerly two hotels that were combined into one). Port Orleans — Riverside The resort’s large sprawling grounds give guests plenty of spaces to spend time on their own. Plus, the fact that it’s so (comparatively) far from Disney’s theme parks often make it feel “emptier” than many of the resort’s other hotels. Port Orleans French Quarter Caribbean Beach Resort As anyone who has stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort knows, the hotel has a massive footprint. The complex is actually made of several buildings and guest centers connected by long walking paths. Said paths provide several small nooks and crannies where introverted guests can stop and take a breather – – often looking out at the hotel’s central body of water – – without worrying about running into anyone else. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Animal Kingdom Lodge There are few more pleasant spots at a Walt Disney World hotel for an introvert than a cozy spot in front of Animal Kingdom Lodge’s windows. Here, you can look out onto the resort’s Savanah, observing many of the animals who call it home. Best of all, these areas are often not crowded during the afternoon hours, as many guests are at the parks. Animal Kingdom Lodge Fort Wilderness What’s more introvert-friendly than a private cabin? The Fort Wilderness campground, which opened just a month after Walt Disney World itself in November of 1971, provides these, plus a serene natural environment that feels well-removed from the resort’s hustle and bustle despite being located near the Magic Kingdom. Room inside The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Saratoga Springs Finally, let’s circle back to Saratoga Springs. This resort is located in the same area as Port Orleans, giving it many of the same advantages for introverts. In addition the fact that’s a Disney Vacation Club resort gives introverted guests even more space to be on their own in its Treehouse Villas. Treehouse Villas If you’re an introverted Disney World guest considering a trip, these are the resort hotels you need to check out! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney tips. Whether you’re Team Heroes or Team Villains, the Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, has epic magic in store. From a Cruella de Vil-inspired piano bar to a “Disney Hercules” stage show — and with oodles of fun in between — you’ll find all-new adventures at sea plus plenty of returning guest favorites. As part of the media preview (onboard the sister ship, Disney Wish), I had the opportunity to attend the Disney Destiny Showcase and peek behind the scenes at some of the experiences onboard — and trust me, you won’t want to miss them. Some are heroic, some are a little more nefarious…but all embrace the dynamic duality of every great Disney story. After all, as Yolanda Cade, Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs of Disney Signature Experiences, explains, “Here’s the beautiful thing about the Disney Destiny: Some of our favorite heroes and villains live in harmony on board the ship…and some in disharmony. Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering, they have from bow to stern…infused it with all of the great inspiration from our greatest heroes and our greatest villains.” Ready to explore? Follow along with my day and discover some Disney Destiny must-dos! Disney Destiny Shows Behind the Scenes of “Disney Hercules” My favorite part of the day by far was a sneak peek at the all-new “Disney Hercules” show coming to the Disney Destiny. In an incredible panel of spokespeople from the creative team, I got all the details on how this classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film is coming to life in the Walt Disney Theater. There are so many elements that make this show truly unique, but I loved hearing about the contemporary aesthetic the show will embody. Show Director Kevin Wilson explained that “Disney Hercules” will feature all the same music and characters, but that “the music, we were able to make it a little more pop, contemporary.” There will also be a new song, “Shooting Star,” featured in the show. This song was originally supposed to be in the film but never made the final cut – meaning it will debut for the first time in a live stage show! The set, too, will juxtapose between a modern aesthetic and a Grecian feel. Michael Serna, Executive Creative Director, points out that staircases coming from stage right and stage left will propel scene transitions, lending a more modern touch. Meanwhile, there will be a Grecian aesthetic with pillars and a gazebo. It’s a delicate balance; as Kevin shares, “We really want elements in the show to feel fresh and new but still have the heart and soul of the story.” As for the costumes? Think couture fashion. Show Director Marcel Wilson shares that the gods and goddesses have “beautiful, enormous headpieces that are ornate, and dramatic draping. Even our Grecian townspeople, it’s not couture fashion, but it still gives a runway vibe, so we still have the Grecian aesthetic.” And of course, expect the Disney Destiny theme of light vs. darkness to make an appearance here, too — some of the costumes will light up! If you’ve seen “Disney The Tale of Moana” onboard the Disney Treasure, you’ll be familiar with the show’s jaw dropping puppets. Creative Director Jeff Conover explains, “We love puppetry. We love to play with scale. It brings the emotions to another level.” He shared a peek at a brand-new rendering showcasing Hercules battling the hydra – featuring puppets! “The concept art here, for me, captures exactly what we’re trying to achieve,” gushes Jeff. “Definitely larger than life. We’re doing some really interesting stuff, not just with the hydra, but also with some of the titans from the film and utilizing some technology here at the Walt Disney Theater that has never been used before.” I, for one, can’t wait to see the final product! Lastly, the actor portraying Hercules himself, Corey J. Bradford, surprised us onstage for a rendition of “Go the Distance” — and he wowed me with his breathtaking voice. And Marcel left us with a little hint to mentally prepare ourselves to see Megara’s garden. “It’s going to be a spectacle,” he says. Sounds like it will be a show worthy of the gods! Disney Destiny Dining Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King I am bursting with anticipation to dine at Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King aboard the Disney Destiny, and luckily, this evening provided a taste of what’s in store! I was immersed in the restaurant’s atmosphere, from windows overlooking different times of day on the savanna to tranquil instrumental music playing in the background. Show Director Paul Bryant shared, “When you step into this space, you’re transformed into the Pride Lands. Can you guys hear the soundscape? We really wanted to live into the authenticity of the musicians and their instruments.” From earthly drums to lilting flutes, I was truly transported. We also got a peek at cast costumes, place settings, and even an adorable hyena sipper featuring Ed, and Timon popcorn bucket! As for eats and sips, I sampled two drinks coming to Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King — Can You Feel the Rum Tonight? (a marvelously mango concoction) and Smily Yet Satisfying (a sweet, gummy-inspired beverage perfect for the kids and the kids at heart). The evening’s eats were inspired by the Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King menu, and everything was wildly delicious. For a closer look at the restaurant’s menu, check out our Disney Eats first look. And don’t forget to bring your lion’s appetite! When you visit the restaurant onboard the Disney Destiny, you’ll want to keep an eye out for some special, hidden details specially for fans of “The Lion King.” Principal Production Designer Jay Abruzzese shared, “There are things you’re going to discover as you walk down the hallway, as you’re entering the savanna. You may see a character in a carving on a wall, you may see a silhouette light up at different times in the show…” There’s no end to the fun you may spot. The night ended with a breathtaking performance of classic “The Lion King” songs, including “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata.” It made me even more excited to board the Disney Destiny for this exceptional dining experience! De Vil’s Piano Lounge No evening is complete without a devilish drink or two with Cruella De Vil herself. Luckily, the fiery fashionista made an appearance! Our preview of De Vil’s lounge featured the Hollywood Regency architecture, glamorous cocktails, and spotted piano we’ll see onboard the Disney Destiny. And just like at the lounge itself, this evening’s guests were recruited for a little musical mischief! I had the chance to sample the strawberry shortcake popcorn and two specialty cocktails coming to the lounge, and my darlings, you’re in for a treat. My favorite was the Fashionista, which consists of strawberry and banana infused tequila and was surprisingly fruity! However, the zero-proof Fearless Sir Galahad held its own with its syrupy sweet scent and spicy flavor profile. I’m so excited to experience De Vil’s onboard the Disney Destiny – and you should be too! Get more of the dreadful details on this paws-itively delightful space on the Disney Parks Blog. The Sanctum Venture into a world of powerful sorcerers inside The Sanctum, a lounge inspired by Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange.” I got to immerse myself in this experience with a first look at a new rendering of the space! Designers were inspired by the New York Sanctum, and you’ll recognize some details from the film’s Chamber of Relics, plus suspended spell books and other enchanting Easter eggs. I also tried some of the sips that will be up for grabs including the Vapors of Valtorr, which was divine. But while the drinks themselves are impressive, even more breathtaking are the interactive elements that give this space an otherworldly feel. Sophie Leroux, Assistant Cruise Director, laughs, “The first time I saw this [Circle of the Cosmos], I thought, ‘Is that glass supposed to be upside down?’ It absolutely is. That’s one of the coolest parts!” Edna Á La Mode Sweets For my last bites, I ventured to Edna Mode’s lab to try some of the sweet treats you’ll be able to savor at Edna Á La Mode Sweets. While Mr. Incredible’s Cupcake – a concoction of double chocolate fudge cake, chocolate truffle mousse, and a dark chocolate gold finish – was my favorite, every choice is super in its own way. For a more in-depth look at the food and beverage offerings on the Disney Destiny, check out our Disney Eats first look! Heroes on the Disney Destiny Heroic Characters Onboard To see what super adventures the Disney Destiny has in store, I visited the Hero Zone: a one-stop-shop for the heroic entertainment, where I was able to eat some exciting eats and see some of the legendary characters that will be on board. The day included a visit with our favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man, and Black Panther himself. As an epic surprise, Hero Minnie even made an appearance, rocking her all-new look! You won’t want to miss the chance to meet these three heroes on your own Disney Destiny adventure. Disney Destiny Stern Character You may have seen that Spider-Man is the stern character on the Disney Destiny, and he’s the first Marvel character to be a part of this Disney Cruise Line tradition! After giving us a behind-the-scenes peek at their creation, Principal Interior Designer Beth Burkhardt shared that both Spidey and his Spider-Bots are “packed up and making their way to Germany now to be installed on the ship.” When you see them in person, keep your eyes peeled for whimsical twists: some Spider-Bots have donned nautical gear like a snorkel mask or life ring! Disney Destiny Grand Hall Another Marvel Super Hero makes an appearance in the Grand Hall: T’Challa, aka Black Panther! While the Grand Hall statue is the bronze sculpture typical of all Disney Cruise Line Grand Halls, this is the first time the team is bringing in silver accents, reminiscent of the Black Panther’s suit. You can also see purple accents in the video below — that’s the vibranium activating in the Black Panther’s suit, powering him up for an adventure. Beth says of the Grand Hall, “This is a whole new look and feel. Lighting is used in a new way, so we can completely transform the space.” Sophie adds, “That’s one of my favorite parts about this: the 360 lighting. It’s going to be changing to each hero or, very possibly, some villains making their way to the Grand Hall.” Expect epic shifts in lighting for our heroes and a more eerie transformation for certain villains…plus, a breathtaking chandelier inspired by the meteorite that brought vibranium to Wakanda. This is a Grand Hall you won’t want to miss! Disney Destiny Staterooms After a grand day of adventures at sea, you’ll retire to your stateroom — where you’ll find even more hero-inspired design elements! The oversized custom art pieces mounted in place of headboards depict the epic duality of famous Disney and Pixar legends. Beth shares that “they all have some kind of play on light and dark.” From the Fantasia-inspired artwork in the concierge suite to the Hercules, Mulan, and Merida art in the staterooms, each piece will take your breath away. Plus, keep an eye out for character-inspired number placards identifying your stateroom door. Disney Destiny Heroes Merch If you want to take home a souvenir of your favorite hero, don’t forget to shop around for some hero-inspired (and Disney Destiny themed) merch! I got a peek at several different collections, and from the Spider Man-inspired ship collection to the fun, playful artwork in the Super Character collection, there’s something for everyone. I can’t wait to snag that spirit jersey from the inaugural collection! Check out a more in-depth look at the Disney Destiny merch on the Disney Parks Blog. Villains on the Disney Destiny I already mentioned the Grand Hall will transform based on which characters make an appearance…and that’s also because you’ll spot some villains on board! In addition to the delightfully evil De Vil’s lounge, there are a few other nefarious personalities to encounter. Loki, the god of mischief himself, and Dr. Facilier will make their way around the ship…plus, you’ll be able to see Maleficent in one of the ship’s entertainment lounges. But it would be wicked of me to spoil all the fun. For all the diabolical details, check out more villainous experiences onboard! Don your capes and pack your potions, because the Disney Destiny is an adventure you won’t want to miss. We’ll be sharing more details and behind-the-scenes moments on the Disney Parks Blog ahead of the ship’s maiden voyage on November 20, so stay tuned! You can also check out more experiences coming to the Disney Destiny, or visit DisneyCruiseLine.com to book your sailing now. The latest telling of “Hercules” will feature high fashion, Hydra puppetry, on-the-move scaffolding and a new song when it’s staged aboard the new Disney Destiny cruise ship later this year. “We’re going to be able to bring this show into the 21st century in a way we’ve never seen before,” creative director Michael Serna said during a showcase to spotlight elements of the vessel A panel about “Hercules” also included co-directors Kevin Wilson and Marcel Wilson as well as Jeff Conover, creative director with puppetry and articulation for Walt Disney Imagineering. “We really wanted to think about set design. We really wanted to be contemporary. We thought about the costuming. We wanted to be extravagant, and then we want to do current choreography,” Kevin Wilson said. “So we really wanted to make sure that those elements in the show, they felt fresh, new, but it still had the heart and soul of the show that everyone knows,” he said. The Wilsons, who are brothers, wanted to bring realism to the show, Marcel Wilson said. “When our show opens, we are in a museum, and we have Grecian artifacts and gods and goddesses on statues,” he said. “I wanted to feel like a Hercules exhibit that people from all around the world come to visit and view.” The sets will include moving scaffolding and staircases, Kevin Wilson said. “They can move, make transitions on the stage, change to different scenes within the set, and that’s for our modern aesthetic. We also bring a Grecian aesthetic with pillars, with a gazebo,” Marcel Wilson said. “We like the juxtaposition between having a modern aesthetic and the Grecian feel.” Costuming goes Grecian, as well. “For the costume development, we really wanted to go more couture fashion, especially for our gods and goddesses. So they have beautiful, enormous headpieces that are ornate and dramatic draping,” Marcel Wilson said. “Even our Grecian townspeople … it’s not couture fashion, but it still gives a runway vibe,” he said. The show is based on the 1997 Disney animated film “Hercules.” It will include familiar songs such as “Zero to Hero,” “Go the Distance” and “I Won’t Say I’m in Love.” It will also feature “Shooting Star,” a song that was written for the movie but not used, Kevin Wilson said. Also look for baddies such as Hades and the multiheaded Hydra, presented via enormous puppetry. “There’s something compelling about puppetry and playing with the scale, just being able to present that in a theatrical environment just brings the emotion to another level,” Conover said. “We’re doing some really interesting stuff, not just with the Hydra, but also with some of the titans from the film,” he said. “We’re utilizing some technology here at the Walt Disney Theater that has never been used before to bring these titans to life, live on stage — and not anywhere else in any of our parks either — in our theatrical setting.” The mix of new and nostalgic pays off, Serna told the Wilsons. “What you’re done with the finale is completely fresh, new,” he said. “It’s so exciting to make sure you stand up and cheer and dance and say hallelujah all the same time, which I love.” “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” and “Disney Seas the Adventure” will also be staged on Disney Destiny, which begins sailing out of Fort Lauderdale in November. The ship will have a “villains and heroes” theme in shows, restaurants and other interactions. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. Few things are as daunting as staring down EPCOT’s World Showcase and deciding where to go. EPCOT If you plan to make your way around the 11 pavilions, you’ll find yourself visiting Canada and taking in everything this country’s pavilion has to offer. One of the quieter and less-talked-about pavilions, Canada is still very charming and is packed with things to do. While you can read all about those activities and offerings via our guide and the Disney World website, we’re letting you in on a few tips that could really elevate your visit. Whether or not its your first time making a stop in the Canada Pavilion, these tips could help you make the most out of the themed area while adjusting your itinerary accordingly. So, without further ado, let’s hum “O Canada” and explore some fun features this pavilion has to offer! EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion When it comes to delicacies, Canada is certainly known for its poutine and beer. You’ll find plenty of both at the Canada Pavilion in EPCOT. A popular spot for poutine is over at Refreshment Port, which is right near the pavilion. Whether you’re browsing for snacks and beer during a festival or on non-festival days, you’ll find plenty of Canadian offerings. Many folks start Drinking Around the World in the Mexico Pavilion, but beer enthusiasts and Disney experts know that if the goal is try great brews, the best place to start is actually in Canada. 81Bay Apricot Maple Beer Speaking of eats, the Canada Pavilion is also home to one of the premier EPCOT restaurants — Le Cellier. Le Cellier Steakhouse is a cellar that you’ll have to keep a special eye out for, as it’s tucked away in the pavilion. The dining room is quite small and themed after a Canadian wine cellar, not too dissimilar to Le Château Frontenac and Fairmont Château Laurier. Le Cellier The food is VERY good at this Signature restaurant, offering delicious steaks, appetizers (like the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup), poutine, and other innovative and hearty items. We recommend making dining reservations here 60 days in advance. ©Disney Another thing to know is that this pavilion isn’t one you can just simply pass through — it requires some time to marvel at. The Canada Pavilion is really gorgeous, with an earthy/countryside aesthetic and some hidden quiet spots. Canada Pavilion in EPCOT If you want a moment to yourself or some peace in a scenic environment, it’s super tough to beat the Canada Pavilion. Admire the totem poles or stroll through the gorgeous gardens. Really take in all the beauty this pavilion has on full display. World Showcase is BEAUTIFUL We previously mentioned how most folks start in Mexico. When you do this, you typically end your day in Canada. Mexico Pavilion Therefore, if you want to avoid huge crowds earlier in the day, start in Canada instead. While everyone is rushing to grab margaritas and head clockwise, you can do the exact opposite and deal with a lot less foot traffic while you sip on a beer or chow down on some tasty Canadian grub. This spot is owned by renowned Chef Michael Mina and will soon find its home at Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort. To make way for this new spot, Shula’s Steakhouse is closing, so we’ve decided to put it to the test before it even gets to Orlando. Atmosphere The Bourbon Steak we stopped by is located inside the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Dana Point, CA. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a hostess, and as they walked us to our table, we passed through huge glass cases of wine and spirits! The wine! We were given a beautiful table front and center to a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, and even got to watch a beautiful sunset! The entire restaurant was sophisticated thanks to its simple and classic design. The bar! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu To start us off, we did a full scan of the menu! There were sections for Shellfish Platters, Petrossian Mina Reserve Caviar, as well as appetizers and salads. The menu! We also noted several options from the Wood-Fire Grill, signature entrees, and accompaniments. With so many options, it was hard to pick (but luckily we did!) And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we started with an amuse-bouche of their famous Duck Fat Fries Trio! The trio consisted of 3 different seasoned fries, fried in duck fat and served with a dipping sauce that complemented each type of fries. There were Pastrami Fries with Ketchup, which had almost a tart vinegar taste and weren’t overly tart. The Pastrami spiced fries had a perfect amount of salt and seasonings that paired well with the ketchup. Second was the Garlic Herb Fries with a Black Truffle Aioli. They were creamy with the perfect amount of tart and garlic. Paired with the garlic herb seasoning, this combo went so well together. The fries! Finally, we had the Dill Fries with Onion Crema. These were our favorites as they were tart, rich, and thick. It honestly tasted like a high-end tartar sauce! The dill seasoning complemented the tartness from the crema. Shortly after the fries, we were each given a Truffle-Infused Brioche Roll with truffle butter and sea salt on top. The roll! This might be one of the best dinner rolls we’ve ever had! It was steaming hot with the perfect amount of truffle butter inside. The outer crust had a nice bite, and the inside was fluffy and soft. The inside! For our first appetizer, we grabbed the Michael’s Ahi Tuna Tartare for $34. This is made with pear, pine nut, garlic, mint, and habanero sesame oil. The Tuna Tartare This guy did not disappoint! It was tossed together at our table side, which allowed the waiter to go into detail about what was in the dish. The quality of the fish was amazing, and it melted in our mouths. It was a great balance of sweet and spicy. The bread was also toasted to perfection, making this one of the highlights of our meal. Next, we moved on to our entrées and sides. A glance at everything! We grabbed the 8-oz Filet for $78. The filet was accompanied by a roasted tomato, and the steak itself was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a warm pink center. The filet! To add to our steak, we grabbed the Trio of Sauces for $12. You can get them individually for $5 each. Of the options, we tried the Creamy Horseradish, Red Wine Jus, and the Au Poivre. Out of the 3, the Red Wine Jus was our favorite! It was thick and hearty, and had such an incredible red wine taste that complemented the filet beautifully. The sauce trio! The Creamy Horseradish was a little too bland for our tastes. The Au Poivre was a peppercorn sauce, which was very tasty and had a great pepper aftertaste! Overall, the filet could stand alone, without the sauces, as it was seasoned very well and super juicy, but they were a fun addition. The cut of the steak! For our sides, we tried the Black Truffle Mac & Cheese for $21! This dish lacked that strong truffle flavor, making it a bit of a disappointment. The truffle mac! It was creamy, and the noodles were cooked well, slightly past al dente, making the noodles nice and soft. A scoop of the macaroni Our second side was the Crispy Brussels Sprouts with a Soy Lime Caramel for $17! This dish was the star of the show! The Brussels! The Brussels sprouts were roasted perfectly. They had a great crunch and were soft on the inside. The sauce smothered the vegetables, and we need a bottle of it sent to our homes ASAP! A bit of everything! For a little something sweet, we’ve got three options! First was the OC Candy Bar for $19! This was probably our favorite of the three desserts. The Candy Bar! It was decorated beautifully with 24k Gold. Inside was a peanut butter crunch, and outside was the most decadent Valrhona Chocolate Brownie. It tasted like an elevated Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup! Next, we tried the Wam Spiced Beignets for $18. The warm beignets These featured Macallan 12, which was poured over a butterscotch custard. The waitress shared with us that during their cooking process, the Macallan alcohol content is not cooked out, and it remains its full proof, so this is definitely not a treat for kids. They were soft, fluffy, and a wonderful addition to the meal. Finally, we tried the Basque Cheesecake for $17. The cheesecake! The cheesecake was unlike anything we have ever tried before! The baking process allows for the outer layer of the cheesecake to be crystallized. Which gave a nice crack, almost reminiscent of a crème brûlée. The roasted strawberries were perfectly sweet and not too soggy. The three desserts! They were the perfect end to a truly wonderful meal, but let’s talk drinks! Drinks To drink, we picked up the Smoked Old Fashioned for $64. This is made with your choice of Angles Envy Mina Private Barrel Bourbon or Whistlepig 10-year Single Barrel Rye. The old-fashioned! It’s mixed with sugar, Orinoco Bitters, and an orange peel used to generously spritz into the glass and placed into the glass as a garnish. The bartender even stamps their logo of Bessy the Cow into the ice block, giving that little extra charm. It was made tableside. The drink was smoky until the final sip ,which we loved. A glance at the bourbons. We also tried the Espresso Martini. It had a beautiful fragrance, and the espresso was incredible!! Disney follows us everywhere, so of course, we were convinced we were served this incredible martini with a hidden Mickey from the espresso beans! Our Espresso Martini! It was the perfect balance of alcohol and espresso. Nosh or Not Once it opens, this Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a more adult meal You’re willing to spend the money for quality and you want to try a new spot once it opens! You should skip this spot if… You are looking for a more relaxed atmosphere You aren’t a big fan of steak or you don’t want to go out of your way to dine at a resort. Overall Overall, this is the epitome of “you get what you pay for”! While the meal was pricy, the experience and quality of the food justified the price in our opinion. We can’t wait to see how this spot turns out once it opens in Disney World later in 2025 at Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort. The full spread! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! There are literally HUNDREDS of things to do in just Magic Kingdom alone…But what do YOU need to prioritize at this popular Disney World park during your next trip? Fireworks Ah, Magic Kingdom — a place where there are no ugly pictures of Cinderella Castle, where the amount of rides for all ages is good ‘n’ plentiful, and where you can eat your weight in Mickey premium bars while lying on the hub grass and no one’s gonna think less of you. It’s also home to magnificent fireworks shows, and we’re bringing you the skinny on some of the BEST viewing spots! If you’ve never watched Magic Kingdom’s nighttime spectacular — Happily Ever After — from the middle of Main Street, U.S.A. before, we still recommend watching the fireworks from there for your first-ever experience of them. That way, you get the WHOLE projection show along with all the high-in-the-sky razzamatazz. Happily Ever After However, if this is your second, third, or umpteenth time watching the show — or you simply CAN’T STAND the thought of being in such a tightly-packed crowd for 30-60 minutes at a time — then you might want to try watching the fireworks from somewhere COMPLETELY new instead for a unique Happily Ever experience (with WAY fewer people). We LOVE Happily Ever After! In front of Cinderella Castle, the crowds can get really intense and keep you gridlocked. But behind Cinderella Castle? You might not only have fewer people to worry about, but you could also stumble upon the most MAGICAL experience of the day. Every now and then, Disney princesses — like Belle, or Rapunzel, or even Cinderella herself — will come out and watch the fireworks with kiddos. This isn’t a guaranteed happenstance, but — if it does happen — you’ll usually find these princesses hanging out around Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, close to the entrance of the New Fantasyland area. The crowds are HERE for Happily Ever After Magic Kingdom’s Swiss Family Treehouse over in Adventureland isn’t an attraction you hear much about, but if you’re willing to log in the extra steps (on top of the tens of thousands of steps you’re already taking during the day), you’ll be able to scale a rather grandiose tree while also viewing the Magic Kingdom park from a whole new perspective. And that perspective will ALSO give you a unique perspective of the fireworks above (and around) the treetops. View from Swiss Family Treehouse Welcome back to the unofficial Peoplemover fan club. Today’s order of business: riding Peoplemover AND watching Happily Ever After at the same time. While some rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and TRON: Lightycycle/Run have some super sweet views of the fireworks that you can make into a core memory for your whole family, it’s a lot more difficult to time your visit and align your ridethrough on these attractions right when the middle of the show is taking place. PeopleMover However — thanks to Peoplemover’s lower wait times and high capacity — it’s a lot EASIER to align your Peoplemover ridethrough with the Happily Ever After fireworks. Not to mention, since the PeopleMover passes right by the castle, you can get an up-close view of the fireworks, as well as some of the projections, too! PLUS, if you’re passing the castle toward the end of the show and you hear those ever-so-melodious words, “You can fly!”, you just might get an AWESOME POV of Tinker Bell as she soars over Tomorrowland! View from the PeopleMover If you’re looking for a stationary fireworks spot that’s less unpredictable than a ride, just head on over to Frontierland and aim for the bridge by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom This bridge goes over part of the water for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and is located near the Frontierland popcorn cart. Sure, you may not be able to see the castle projections from this far back, but this is DEFINITELY a calmer and less crowded place to enjoy the colorful “crash boom BANG” happening up in the sky. The internet is losing its mind over the possibility of this next theme park. Magic Kingdom MrBeast is looking to create the next Disney — here’s what we know. According to Business Insider, YouTuber MrBeast and his company, Beast Industries, want to become the next Walt Disney Company. ©AdSense When pitching to investors, Beast Industries compared their company to Disney, building an empire with intellectual properties. They said, “Beast Industries is the next generation diversified media, consumer product goods, and services conglomerate.” World of Disney The company is looking at different ways to “diversify away from MrBeast being on camera.” They plan to do this with a new IP within the Beast Universe and create toys, games, animation, comics, and merchandise. Beast Industries already has multiple products, including its chocolate brand, Feastables, which generated $215 million in net revenue in 2024. ©Business Insider While MrBeast hasn’t pitched a theme park yet, can it really be far behind if the company is comparing itself to Disney? We’re not sure what MrBeast has planned, but we see the comparisons between Walt Disney as a businessman and MrBeast.
