  1. We’re finally getting the opportunity to stay at the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, located INSIDE Epic Universe. We are staying in a How to Train Your Dragon-themed room! Universal Helios Grand Hotel The hotel officially opened on April 16th, and today, April 17th, marks the first day of ticketed previews for Epic Universe. We have our preview tickets in hand and a room booked at Helios Grand Hotel, so now it’s time to take a look at one of our FAVORITE features of this hotel — the exclusive entrance that hotel guests will have to get into Epic Universe! Staying at Universal’s Helios Grand Hotel has lots of perks, including getting some spectacular views of the park itself right from your room, but one of the biggest perks is that you have your OWN entrance to the park! Exclusive Entrance This entrance can only be used by guests staying at the Helios Grand Hotel and is perfect for when you’re using your early entry perk. This way, you’re further into the park than other guests coming through the front gate. The entrance lets you out into Celestial Park, but on the other side of the park than the actual entrance. The entrance from Helios Grand Hotel is nestled between Dark Universe and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. Entering into Epic Universe Early Entry began at 10 AM this morning, with security at the exclusive entrance beginning at about 9:10 AM this morning. People were lined up as early as 7 AM, and we got in line at about 8:30 AM. By 9:55 AM, we were in the park and ready to start our day! The exclusive entrance made getting into the park a breeze. Line for exclusive entrance Currently, only Stardust Racers and Super Nintendo World are open for Early Park Entry. However, that still includes four attractions available before the park opens for normal guests: Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, Mine-Cart Madness, and Stardust Racers. Epic Universe Entrance We’re checking out the WHOLE hotel and can’t wait to bring you all the latest news about what to expect, including FULL reviews of all the restaurants! Plus, we are inside Epic Universe for previews, and we are bringing you along with us. Stay tuned for lots of Epic Universe and Helios Grand Hotel coverage! More Recent Epic Universe News! 2. Something brand new is coming to Disney Springs in Disney World! Disney Springs Back in 2017, DisneyQuest closed down in Disney Springs, and its home on the West Side was vacant for two years before the NBA Experience replaced it in 2019. Unfortunately, the NBA Experience wasn’t as popular as Disney had hoped, and it never reopened after the 2020 pandemic. But now, LEVEL99 is moving into that same building, and we’ve got some new details about construction! A notice of commencement for construction has been filed with Orange County, FL, and the address matches the new location for LEVEL99, in the former NBA Experience building. The notice of commencement was filed on April 16th with an expiration date one year from that. Former NBA Experience LEVEL99 is an interactive, social entertainment experience. More specifically, it is a destination for “real-world, challenge-based, social entertainment” for adults featuring physical and mental challenges set in artistic environments. LEVEL99 in MA The space is kind of arcade-meets-entertainment center, and it’s designed for adults to get together and take on challenges with or against their friends and family. The Disney Springs location will be the fifth LEVEL99 spot, but the first one the company has established in Florida. ©LEVEL99 The Disney Springs location is also set to be the largest LEVEL99 so far, with over 60 challenge rooms and duels available. The space will be over 45,000 square feet across two stories and will feature dining with a chef-crafted menu, including LEVEL99’s award-winning, Detroit-style pizza. ©LEVEL99 We can’t wait to check out this new addition when it opens in Disney Springs, so we’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any news about its opening. And if you’re heading to Disney Springs this year, check out our full guide! Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on everything coming to Disney World! 3. Disney Cruise Line continues to implement new initiatives to support its ongoing efforts to minimize waste, including the elimination of single-use plastics, across its fleet. From its ships to island destinations, Disney is dedicated to exploring innovative ways to reduce its impact on the environment and support Disney’s environmental goals. Island Destinations in The Bahamas Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is Disney Cruise Line’s all-new island destination on the island of Eleuthera that celebrates the rich culture and natural beauty of The Bahamas. Disney Cruise Line took the opportunity to rethink its food and beverage services, resulting in the new island destination operating without any guest-facing single-use plastics. For example, all meals and drinks are served with reusable dishware, flatware and cups. Disney Cruise Line has also recently introduced redesigned trash cans at Disney Castaway Cay, its island destination in the Abaco chain of islands in The Bahamas. With separate receptacles for recycling and food scraps, these new bins allow waste to be properly sorted and recycled more effectively and efficiently. Costumes & Entertainment Many crew member costumes featured fleetwide are made from recycled plastics. For example, aboard the all-new Disney Treasure, nearly 90 percent of all guest-facing costumes include elements made from recycled plastic waste. Costumes featuring recycled plastics can also be seen onboard the Disney Wish in the Broadway-style show “Disney The Little Mermaid.” Ship Equipment & Operations Disney Cruise Line has recently recycled more than 20 miles of retired ship mooring lines, which are routinely replaced every seven to 10 years to comply with safety requirements. Minimizing waste sent to landfills, the initiative turned approximately 225,000 pounds of used plastic mooring lines into entirely new products like flowerpots and buckets. Disney Cruise Line also continues to encourage its vendors to develop innovative solutions that reduce waste from packaging, shipping and more. For example, the cruise line purchases guest room towels in bulk, helping reduce excess single-use plastic wrap. Dining & Merchandise Many single-use plastics have already been removed or replaced onboard Disney ships, including items like plastic merchandise bags and straws. In fact, Disney Cruise Line has eliminated the use of nearly 1 million plastic merchandise bags annually by switching to reusable bags onboard. When Disney Cruise Line stopped using plastic straws across its fleet 2018, it eliminated more than 14 million plastic straws it typically gave out each year. More recently, flavored straws that guests enjoy with their drinks are now offered at select locations at island destinations and onboard ships. Likewise, onboard lounges, like Cove Café, now serve specialty coffees in plastic-free, all paper cups. Plastic water bottles have also been replaced with recyclable aluminum options that can be refilled at water stations across each ship in both guest and crew member areas. Guest Staterooms Guests who have previously sailed with Disney receive amenities and lanyards in their staterooms as part of the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club loyalty program. Instead of traditional single-use plastic sleeves, these items are now packaged with paper-based materials. Since making this transition in 2024, Disney has removed over 3 million plastic sleeves from its onboard operations. Guests will also notice refillable bath product dispensers in bathrooms, replacing plastic amenity containers. By switching to refillable dispensers in all guest staterooms in 2019, Disney Cruise Line removed an annual distribution of more than 2.2 million plastic amenity containers across its fleet — a total of 18 tons of plastic waste. Disney Cruise Line remains committed to taking action to support a healthier planet for people and wildlife — collective efforts the company calls Disney Planet Possible. 5. Sometimes, skipping the line just isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Lightning Lane Multi Pass pamphlet Lightning Lanes might sound like a no-brainer for a Disney World trip, but according to several former Cast Members, that premium perk can end up being more trouble (and cost) than it’s worth. These are folks who’ve spent a lot of time in the parks and know the ins and outs better than most. So if you’ve been debating whether to buy Lightning Lane access for your upcoming trip, here are 4 reasons former Cast Members say you might want to skip it. You Lose the Magic of Going With the Flow One of the biggest gripes is that Lightning Lanes lock you into a schedule. A former Cast Member put it simply: “I don’t like to have my day planned out — I prefer to go with the flow, and if a ride has a low wait, I’ll ride it.” And honestly, that vibe makes a lot of sense, especially for people who visit often, like Annual Passholders or locals. Having to be at a specific place at a specific time can turn your chill day at Magic Kingdom into a stress-fueled march across the park. “it’s a small world” Disney is magical, but it’s also exhausting. Sometimes the best strategy is just winging it and hitting whatever ride has the shortest wait instead of rushing to your next Lightning Lane window. Early Birds Still Get the Rides (For Free) Another ex-CM mentioned that if you’re willing to wake up early and actually rope drop the parks, you can knock out a ton of big rides without paying for anything extra. Early entry sign! While everyone else is still in their hotel rooms hitting snooze, the early risers are already riding Space Mountain or snagging a spot in line for Flight of Passage. It’s a solid strategy that doesn’t cost a dime, and for a lot of Cast Members, this was their go-to. If you can beat the crowds, there’s really no need to pay for Lightning Lanes at all. It’s Only Worth It When You’re Playing Tour Guide Another former CM said they only ever pay for Lightning Lanes when they’ve got guests in town. And yeah, that makes sense. If you’ve only got one or two days in the parks and want to maximize every minute, it might be worth the splurge to skip the lines and guarantee a few headliners. Lightning Lane But if you’re a frequent visitor or just doing a chill trip, you’re probably not going to get your money’s worth. For locals and people who’ve already been on all the rides dozens of times, Lightning Lane feels more like a backup plan than a must-have. Animal Kingdom? Not Worth It Here’s one that might surprise some people: multiple Cast Members said Lightning Lanes are just not worth it at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Unless you’re dying to ride Flight of Passage without a long wait, most of the other attractions don’t get bad enough lines to justify the extra cost. Everest, Dinosaur, Safari—they’re all pretty manageable if you plan your day right. That means if you’re park hopping or trying to budget your Lightning Lane purchases, Animal Kingdom is probably the one park where you can skip it altogether. Lightning Lane for Flight of Passage The bottom line is that Lightning Lanes definitely can be useful, but they’re not always the park-saving magic wand Disney makes them out to be. For many former Cast Members who know the parks like the back of their hand, they’re more of a “sometimes” thing than a “must-have.” Winnie the Pooh Lightning Lane So before you buy, think about how you want your day to feel. Do you want to be on a tight schedule chasing down every ride reservation, or are you cool just vibing and riding what’s available? Either way, we’re here to help you make the most of your trip—Lightning Lane or not. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 6. We are at Universal Orlando’s newest hotel, Universal Helios Grand Hotel! Universal Helios Grand Hotel This new resort, along with Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort, was specially built and designed for the opening of Epic Universe. While Helios Grand was planned to open on May 22nd, 2025, alongside Epic Universe, the hotel ended up opening early on April 16th, and we are taking you along for a trip to the hotel’s rooftop bar, Bar Helios! There is no shortage of dining options at this Mediterranean-inspired hotel, which offers stunning views of Epic Universe. If you are looking to grab a drink, you can head up to Bar Helios, a “comfortable and stylish” bar with three distinct areas: a circular bar with 360-degree views, a dining area, and an al fresco area with views of Epic Universe. Bar Helios Atmosphere As we mentioned, this bar offers impressive views of Epic Universe; however, the outdoor terrace is not covered, so it’s essential to consider the weather conditions before dining outside. Views Unfortunately, since we ate outside, we were getting bitten by no-see-ums. Nonetheless, the atmosphere is breathtaking, especially as the sun starts to set. The bar Menu The menu here offers a variety of tapas, as well as desserts and a full-service bar. The Menu You will find shareables that pair great with their specialty cocktails. The Menu Drinks Of course, we had to start our meal off with some drinks! We ordered the Athenian Milk Punch for $26. This drink is mixed with Angel’s Envy Helios Barrel Selection, Metaxa Ouzo, mint tea, lemon juice, cane syrup, and Greek yogurt syrup. Athenian Milk Cocktail This is the most expensive cocktail on the menu, as it is time-intensive and a bit laborious. It included a special barrel that they chode at the Angel’s Envy Bourbon Distillery in Louisville that was bottle just for the resort! Made just for Helios Grand! This drink was really well balanced and reminded us of mint ice cream, but not as sweet. Athenian Milk Cocktail Next up, we tried the Greek God, which was $22. This drink featured dill and olive oil-infused Grey Goose, as well as caper-infused dry vermouth. Greek God Cocktail This is essentially a vodka martini with infused flavors. It comes with Greek olives on top, and the taste was very caper-forward. If you prefer less vermouth and more vodka, this might not be for you. This drink was unlike anything we had ever experienced before, thanks to the infusion of flavors. Greek God Cocktail Lastly, we ordered the Mount Olympus at $19. In this drink, you’ll find Hendrick’s Gin, St-German, lemon and lavender cordial, lime juice, mint, and Ferrari Brut. Mount Olympus Cocktail Our server recommended this drink, which had a strong lemon flavor while maintaining a floral profile. This was the sweetest of the three cocktails we tried; it wasn’t overly sweet, but still well-balanced with plenty of acidity. We wish it were a bit bigger, but out of the cocktails we tried, we would come back here for the Mount Olympus! We loved this! Overall, we were extremely impressed with the cocktail menu here, and it’s clear that a great deal of work went into its creation. Many of the syrups are made in-house, like their cinnamon and cherry syrup, honey syrup, and fig syrup. Everyone should be able to find a drink that they like, as there are a lot of flavor profiles, and honestly, whatever cocktail you order just might turn out to be one of the most creative cocktails that you’ve ever had! Eats To pair with our drinks, we ordered the Spreads and Mezze, which was $23. This dish came with marinated Mediterranean olives, Taramosalata, Za’atar, Labneh, hummus, and grilled pita. Spread and Mezze This was shareable and super unique. Our reporters agreed that they had never tasted anything like this dish before. It has a bit of a fishy taste, but not in a negative way, just more of a seafood-forward taste. We liked that we could use the grilled pita to enjoy the spreads on. We also really liked the marinated olives, and the yogurt dip was delicious, with a tart and creamy bite. If you’re looking to grab a cocktail and a bite to eat, this is a great dish to order and share. This makes for a great shareable! We also got the Farmer’s Cheese, which came with whipped farmer’s cheese, honeycomb, citrus, local seasonal fruit, pistachio, and grilled focaccia for $25. Farmer’s Cheese This is just a cheese plate, but it’s far from average, as it’s the prettiest dish on the menu, which enticed us to order it. It is one of those dishes that if you were to see it on another table, you would be asking your server, “What is that?” and “We would like to order one.” We used the grilled focaccia to scoop the cheese, which was creamy and rich. We also appreciated the acidity from the citrus, which gave it a nice balance. Our favorite part was the honeycomb. The Farmer’s Cheese is a must-order when visiting Bar Helios. SO Pretty! Next up is the Confit Pork Belly, priced at $22. This dish consisted of pork belly, corn puree, finger lime, and chili. Pork Belly This was the meatiest of the dishes that we ordered. It came with three pieces of pork belly, but each piece was a few bites. It was served over corn puree. The corn puree had a lime taste and was nice and sweet. The pork needed just a bit more seasoning, like salt. We could tell the pork was seasoned, but once we cut it, it felt like it had lost its seasoning. Nonetheless, this did not stop us from enjoying the pork belly! Pork Belly Finally, we tried the Ora King Salmon priced at $27. The salmon was paired with a serrano citrus sauce and crispy leek. This dish is gluten-free. Ora King Salmon This was yet another standout dish, as it was beautifully presented. We found the sauce to be heavy on basil, and it was bright green, really packing a punch with flavor. We kept sticking our forks in it to steal another taste. Even if you’re not a salmon fan, you won’t regret ordering this, as the sauce really makes this dish stand out. Such bright colors! We could not end a review without dessert! To end our meal, we ordered The Shattered Rose for $32. This is an interactive dessert experience that came with Babka bread pudding and Cardamom gelato. The Shattered Rose This dessert is all about the show, and our server at Flora Taverna was the one who told us that we just had to try it! It arrives on a cart with a liquid nitrogen-infused red rose, which our server invites us to crumble and let it shatter over our dessert. This dessert was decadent and had a distinctive Mediterranean flavor. We initially thought our scoop of gelato was a bit small for a bread pudding dessert, but then we learned that you want to drag a bite of the pudding through the gelato rather than eating bites of it. Shattering the rose Now you may be wondering what ‘chocolate soil’ is. It is essentially a crumbled cookie cake that resembles dirt, and it was delicious! This dessert might be a one-and-done, but you won’t regret experiencing it! It is a fun experience! Lastly, we tried the Under Smoke, which consists of chocolate mousse, chocolate soil, and caramel, for $17. Under Smoke Now this is a dessert that you might regret trying. This has a very neat presentation as it comes under a cloche, and once our server lifted it, smoke poured out. This dessert reminded us of many desserts you might find at Animal Kingdom, such as a chocolate mousse with a cake or cookie topped with ganache. That is essentially what this was: a dome with shortbread cookie, chocolate mousse, and dark chocolate on top. This dessert also came with chocolate soil. Under Smoke If you like smoke and we mean A LOT of smoke, then you will love this dessert, but it was a bit too much smoke for us. The chocolate soil absorbed a significant amount of the smoke, and for this reason, we do not recommend it. We probably would not order this again Overall We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bar Helios and think it’s the perfect way to end your day. While the main draw is the rooftop views of Epic Universe, the limited coverage and bugs added a bit of stress and worry to our time here. Regardless, the food and drinks were unique, and we are looking forward to the next time we can visit! Full Spread Nosh or Not Head to Bar Helios if… You want spectacular views of Epic Universe. The rooftop views offer a completely new perspective on the park, and it was great to enjoy a drink while taking in the scenery of Celestial Park. You want a cocktail with light appetizers. A majority of the menu features light bites, such as tapas, which pair perfectly with the cocktails. Maybe pick another restaurant if… You want a larger meal. If you are looking for less of a lounge-like meal, try Flora Taverna instead! The weather is bad. The main draw is the views of Epic Universe, and while you can see them from inside, the best view is on the terrace. 7. Who’s ready to feel villainous? ©Disney Not only is a brand new Villains land coming to Magic Kingdom at some point, but the villains are about to get represeted in a brand new way in Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, a new show coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 27th. Now, we’ve seen some teasers about which villains could be seen during the show (as well as those who are starring in it), but now Disney has shared a first look at the show, including a very catchy little song number. It’s giving us Halloween vibes and we are here for it. It’s definitely a banger and we’ll be singing these lines on repeat for a few days, at least. You’ll also hear other iconic Disney villains songs during the performance. The musical stage show is said to be immersive, as well, as villains break through the Magic Mirror bringing “theatrical magic, witty humor, and plenty of mischievous charm.” Would we expect anything else from Disney’s baddies? ©Disney Disney also shared a behind-the-scenes video of the live musicians who brought the music for the show to life. Okay, we are SO in. This show, along with the new Little Mermaid show, will both premiere in Hollywood Studios on May 27th. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 9. Oh, the times, they are a-changin’ at the Disneyland Resort! Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Whether we want it to or not, time does not stand still at Disneyland. In fact, the resort is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year! As time changes at “The Happiest Place on Earth”, so too do the rules and regulations. If it’s been a minute since your last Disneyland visit, there are 3 rules you need to be ready for before your next trip. Disneyland DAS Misuse Can Lead to Bans In June 2024, changes came to Disneyland’s Disability Access Service (DAS). This service accommodates visitors and their families who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a traditional queue (or line) environment for an attraction due to a disability. ©Disney Guests enrolled in the program can go to an attraction and request a return time. To enroll, guests have to do a virtual video meeting with a trained Cast Member who will then determine the appropriate service. The Disney Parks made restrictions to limit how many guests can take advantage of the program, and additionally threatened severe action should the service be misused. ©Disney While not necessarily new, the fine print reads that falsifying information in order to qualify DAS can lead to lifetime bans and forfeiture of tickets and Magic Key passes. Pin Trading Restrictions Back in the day, you could trade pins all over the Disneyland Resort. That is no longer the case. Star Wars Pins The Disneyland Guest Pin Trading Etiquette policy has limited pin trading to a dedicated location near Westward Ho Trading Company in Disneyland Park from park opening to 3 PM daily. Westward Ho Trading Co. According to the rules, pin traders can only bring one pin trading bag measuring 14 by 12 by 6 inches, cannot use lights or signs, cannot use park benches to display pins (tables have been provided), and cannot trade pins for money, gifts, or vouchers. Pin trading via lanyards is still permitted throughout the parks. No Consistent Virtual Queues Since the pandemic, guests have gotten pretty used to virtual queues. The Disneyland Resort, however, seems to be moving away from them (for the time being). Virtual Queue Return In 2024, we saw heavy virtual queue use for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Haunted Mansion, but both attractions now offer regular Lightning Lane access as well as standby options. Virtual queues are still popular shows like World of Color. Haunted Mansion Disneyland seems to want to only use virtual queues for a short period of time (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure did not have a virtual queue for very long, for example), especially when an attraction’s demand is at an all-time high. As of this writing, all of the rides at the resort can be accessed via a standby line. However, keep in mind that this is all subject to change. 10. A NEW Disney movie recently dropped in theaters. ©Disney The somewhat controversial live-action Snow White hit movie theaters after months of previews and news stories, and it didn’t perform particularly well at the box office. But if you’ve been waiting for the movie to hit streaming to watch, when can you expect it on Disney+? We’re looking at the data. Disney hasn’t yet announced a date for when Snow White will be available to stream, but we can somewhat extrapolate based on data from the last 7 Disney movies released in theaters. Let’s take a look at those dates. ©Disney Mufasa — In theaters on December 20th, 2024; On Disney+ March 26th, 2025 Moana 2 — In theaters on November 27th, 2024; On Disney+ March 12th, 2025 Inside Out 2 — In theaters on June 14th, 2024; On Disney+ September 25th, 2024 Wish — In theaters on November 22nd, 2023; On Disney+ April 3rd, 2024 The Marvels — In theaters on November 10th, 2023; On Disney+ February 7th, 2024 Haunted Mansion — In theaters on July 28th, 2023; On Disney+ October 4th, 2023 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny — In theaters on June 30th, 2023; On Disney+ December 1st, 2023 ©Disney There’s a little bit of a trend here. Most of the films hit Disney+ about 3 months after their release, with the exception of three: Moana 2, Wish, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The first two in that list were likely movies that Disney was hoping would perform well at the box office, with Moana 2 being a sequel to an incredibly popular princess movie, and with Wish as an original animated film released for the company’s 100th anniversary. That’s likely why they were given an extra month’s delay. ©Disney But with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Disney waited five months to stream the film. It’s possible that they were expecting big box office numbers since the movie was joining a major franchise, or perhaps the later release was before Disney+ got its formula down pat. Either way, that one seems to be an outlier in our data. ©Lucasfilm Ultimately, it looks like we’ll be waiting 3-4 months before Snow White comes to Disney+. The movie was released on March 21st, 2025, in theaters, so we can probably expect it to stream sometime in June or July. The real question is — will it be at the end of that window because Disney expected it to perform well, or will the studio have predicted it to be a box office “flop?” ©Disney We’ll make sure to keep you updated when an actual Disney+ release date is announced, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates. 11. Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor hasn’t bought Six Flags, but it sure feels like it… ©Six Flags Last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced that the iconic, once record-breaking shuttle coaster Superman: Escape from Krypton – – has been permanently closed. According to the Park’s president Jeff Harris, the decision to close the attraction — which had been down for refurbishment since September — came down to an inability to repair the attraction. According to Harris, “Some of the parts are obsolete. It’s really tough to even get parts to keep it alive.” He continued, “Just like other roller coasters within the theme park industry, there’s a life cycle with these coasters. It’s just reached a point in time where we need to make a wise decision on where we really should reinvest funds that improve the guest experience the most. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense from a business perspective to put it back into Superman” according to the O.C. Register. The once-revolutionary Intamin Reverse Freefall Coaster opened as Superman: The Escape in 1997. The shuttle coaster featured a pair of side-by-side 1,235-foot-long L-shaped tracks that each curved toward the sky, and was powered by an ”electro-magnetic propulsion launch system” that launched riders from zero to 100 mph in about 7 seconds, allowing riders to experience 6.5 seconds of weightlessness on the vertical section of track before dropping backward toward the launch station. At the time of its opening, the 415-foot-tall coaster held the title of the world’s tallest coaster, remaining so until Cedar Point opened Top Thrill Dragster in 2003. The ride’s name was changed in 2011, which coincided with the ride vehicles being turned backward. Over the years, the coaster had also become well-known to coaster enthusiasts and amusement park fans thanks to being extensively featured on Travel Channel documentaries, especially in the late 1990s and early 2000s. ©Six Flags As far as the future of the ride’s station, vehicles, and etc. Harris would not elaborate, saying “It’s too early to disclose what we’re going to do with the actual track, cars, queue, building structure and everything else that comes with the attraction. That’s yet to be determined, but we’re working through what that potentially could look like for the future.” He further said, “We are still the Thrill Capital of the World for guests of all ages,” Harris said. “We’re still the reigning park when it comes to the quantity and variety of roller coasters.” Interestingly, the Lex Luther: Drop of Doom attraction that was affixed to the Superman track in 2012 will remain open for the foreseeable future. Maybe Lex did buy the park after all.. ©Six Flags Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced that the well-known Superman: Escape from Krypton roller coaster is closing permanently. 14. Walt Disney World has released more details about the new villains show slotted to arrive at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next month, including a new song performed by the Magic Mirror, the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” character that served as the “fairest of them all” barometer. “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” debuts May 27 at the theme park. “This show is ground-breaking in that the Magic Mirror does more than just talk. He’s actually going to have a song of his very own,” Doug Morris, music producer, said during a promotional video posted on the official Disney Parks Blog on Thursday morning. The footage includes studios musicians in a recording session and sample, reflective lyric of “what you see is what you get.” “It’s a little bit rock and roll. a little bit of orchestra and classic gothic score. It is just fun from start to finish,” said conductor Roger Butterley. Disney shows three on-stage characters who are backlit amid color-coordinated fog effects: Captain Hook, Cruella De Vil and Maleficent. There will be glimpses of other infamous characters, Disney has said. “We wanted to tell a story that’s a little bit different than what’s been told before. Which one of them has been treated the most unfairly ever after,” show director Mark Renfrow said. The new villains show will be staged at Sunset Showcase, the building near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster that housed “Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy” until October 2024. The space has a new stage and theater seating, replacing the benches used for the Lightning McQueen show, which featured animatronics and video. The debut of “Unfairly Ever After” coincides with the first showings of “The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure” near Hollywood Studios’ Animation Courtyard. The show is part of a villains wave for the company. The Disney Destiny cruise ship, which debuts in November, carries a heroes and villains theme, and a complete villains land has been announced for Magic Kingdom theme park. 15. We are seeing Disney World undergo some major construction over the next few years, including updated rides and new lands. Cinderella’s Castle In 2025, there will be several rides that are seeing a refurbishment this year at Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently receiving an overhaul and is scheduled to reopen in 2026. Astro Orbiter also closed earlier this year and is set to reopen this summer. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has recently been added to that list as well so here is what we know about this ride update. 1. New Ride Vehicles The ride vehicles on Space Ranger Spin are getting an upgrade with a new design. This new design is inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear himself. Each vehicle will also have video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features. Galactic Heroes, get ready to score those points! ©Disney 2. New Scene and New Character We will also be introduced to an all-new character. “Buddy” is a friendly robot, and he will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. During this new scene, you will be able to see some of the new, interactive target features before starting your mission. ©Disney 3. New Technology If you’ve gone on this ride before, you’ll remember the Z targets throughout the attraction. The static targets found in the attraction today will be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit. No more guessing if you hit the target you are aiming for! ©Disney 4. New Blasters The ride vehicles will also have new blasters. These will be handheld, meaning that you’ll be able to aim and shoot easily. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors, one for each guest in the vehicle. ©Disney To prepare for these changes, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close in August and reopen sometime in 2026. We are excited to see these changes come to life when Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin reopens. 20. Either before you run into Epic Universe to meet your favorite Nintendo characters or need a relaxing end to your day after flying with a dragon, enjoying a relaxing sit-down meal is a great addition to your Universal Orlando trip. Universal Helios Grand Hotel We visited Flora Taverna at the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, where we got amazing views of Epic Universe and an incredible meal. This is one of the three hotels built for Epic, and it overlooks Celestial Park. Let’s dive in! Atmosphere Flora Taverna offers “a full breakfast buffet and Mediterranean comfort foods” as well as “an open kitchen, live cooking, pizza oven, open grills, and a gyros station.” It has a “light and airy atmosphere” and stunning views of Epic Universe. Outdoor Patio It has a very laid-back and chill vibe. Flora Taverna We dined during lunch and were seated on the patio overlooking the park, but there is also an indoor dining room and a bar area that serves lighter food and drinks. Our table Menu The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with breakfast being a full buffet. There’s also a full bar! The Menu On the lunch menu, you will find salads, skewers, pizzas, handhelds, and more! The Menu For dinner, the menu includes seafood, pizzas, steak, pasta, and more! The Dinner Menu There is also a full-service bar that serves up beer, wine, and a variety of cocktails. Drink Menu Drinks We grabbed a few drinks. The first one was the Spicy Melone, which cost $19. This drink features Patron Reposado, cantaloupe, hot honey syrup, lemon juice, and Grand Marnier. Spicy Melone We loved this drink and could honestly give it the title of our favorite drink ever. It is pretty much a spicy cantaloupe margarita. It may sound like a weird combo, but it is very well balanced, and it’s not super spicy. It is a perfect drink for the summer, especially while you sit outside and enjoy the views of Epic Universe. Spicy Melone Next, we tried the Flora Southside for $16. This drink had Ketel One, Tanqueray, strawberries, mint, strawberry and rose syrup, and lemon juice. This drink is so pretty! Our server told us that this cocktail is the prettiest drink on the menu, and we agree! It has a nice rose color with a dried miniature rose garnish. Since vodka and gin are used in this drink, it was not too sweet, and the flavor was good and not too syrupy. There was a lovely fresh strawberry finish, and the rose flavor was very prominent. Flora Southside We rounded out our drink order with a $16 Mykonos Spritz, which included Campari, The Botanist Gin, lemon juice, cane syrup, and Lunetta Prosecco. Mykonos Spritz This drink was our least favorite, although it was good; the balance felt off. It was made with Campari, which is a bitters, and our reporter, who tried it, likes bitters, but something felt off. We think it could have used more Prosecco, as the lemon was too prominent and did not mix well with the bitters. The drink is beautiful, but it is tart and may make you pucker. Mykonos Spritz Eats We started with the bread service, which is not free. It is minimal at $3. If you like to start your meal with bread, then by all means get it, but it is not something that we think is important to this meal. Bread Service It is a rosemary focaccia, and while this bread was good, it was not legendary. It is also paired with olive oil and balsamic. We could tell it was good quality oil and vinegar, and it had the perfect ratio for dipping. Bread is not free We also ordered the Fritto Misto for $23, which came with calamari, local Florida shrimp, local water fish, lemon, Calabrian chili, and gremolata aioli. Fritto Misto This just might be the best calamari we have ever had. It was not chewy, but instead, it melted in our mouths. The batter was incredible and so buttery. We think the housemade tartar sauce added the perfect amount of tanginess, and it was just incredible. We can’t wait to order this again, and even if you are not crazy about calamari, we think this dish is worth a try. This was SO good! For our last starter, we tried the Saganaki. This was $17 and had pan-seared Halloumi cheese, honey, lemon peel, and toasted sesame. Saganaki The cheese has a bread-like texture and is grilled and served warm. This traditional Mediterranean dish came to us in a pan. It came with three pieces of cheese, which we found to be the perfect portion. We really enjoyed this dish, as the honey added a nice sweetness, and the sesame seeds added a bit of crunch for the texture. Saganaki Now it is time for our main courses! We ordered the Colorado Lamb Burger for $28, which was served with a mint yogurt sauce, organic Feta cheese, and wilted spinach, sandwiched together on artisanal brioche. Colorado Lamb Burger This was not our favorite. Our reporter, who tried this dish, is not even the biggest spinach fan but found it to be very mild, so if you are not a spinach fan, it should not bother you too much, and it is easy to pick off. The Feta was nice and creamy, and the mint yogurt only had a very light mint taste. The meat patty was crisp on the edges but still juicy and soft on the inside. The bun was just your standard brioche bun and nothing really special. The cheese and the mint created a weird consistency that kind of reminded us of horseradish sauce. It came with a side of seasoned steak fries. We are glad we tried this, but we would prefer all of our appetizers and drinks over the burger. Colorado Lamb Burger We also had to try the Chicken Gyro, which cost $22. This gyro was served on fresh pita with cucumber, tomato, shaved red onion, and tzatziki. Chicken Gyro It was a standard gyro, with a lot of meat, fillings, and tzatziki. Not only was it fresh, but it was also warm; it reminded us of comfort food, yet it was packaged like a wrap, which is a little different. We did not mind because it made it easier to eat. It was also served with fries, which were just your typical seasoned steak fries. Chicken Gyro The Hummus Bowl costs $22 and includes fresh pita, charred cauliflower, onions, jubilee tomato, Greek olive, Persian cucumber, and lemon oregano vinaigrette. Hummus Bowl This dish was beautiful, and we would come back to get this again! It is a significant portion and could be shared between two people if you are not super hungry. This is precisely what you want hummus to be like; it was not chunky or thick, and was so easy to scoop. Plus, it came with a number of fresh veggies like bell pepper, red onion, cucumber, and olives! If you are looking for a lighter lunch, we can’t recommend this enough! We will be dreaming of this Hummus Bowl! We also tried one of the Woodstone Oven Pizzas, and we went classic with the Margherita Pizza for $20. This pizza is topped with Flor di Latte Mozzarella, San Marzano tomato, and crushed basil. Margherita Woodstone Oven Pizza We hate to say it, but this is the only dish that we thought was just “eh”. Now, picky eaters will like this, and young kids could probably split it as it is cut into six pieces. You can tell that it is wood-fired, and the crust was crispy but not super thin and had a nice char at the bottom. The tomato sauce was plain, and we wish it had more seasoning. It also seemed to be lacking in fresh mozzarella. It was the same story with the basil leaves; there needed to be more. Overall, the bites were just dry and could really use more of everything. Margherita Pizza Overall We really enjoyed our first experience at Flora Taverna. If it is a nice day, we highly suggest sitting outside as the views of Epic Universe are breathtaking. We mean, who doesn’t want to enjoy a nice cocktail while taking in all the sights and sounds of this new park!? There are some dishes on the lunch menu that are worth returning for, and we look forward to our next visit! Flora Taverna Nosh or Not? Head to Flora Taverna if… You want to enjoy a relaxed meal. The vibes were great, and we felt like we could sit back and take everything in. You are looking to enjoy a meal with a view. Sitting outside was a highlight, and we loved that we could see Epic Universe from a whole new perspective. You want a menu on which everyone can find something they like. This menu should have options for both picky and adventurous eaters. Maybe pick another restaurant if… You are looking for a fancy meal. While this restaurant is beautiful, if you are looking for something more upscale, you may want to dine elsewhere. You want to be where the action is. While Flora Tavern overlooks Epic Universe, if you don’t want to waste park time, we suggest staying in Epic Universe to eat. We’re so glad we could try out Flora Taverna at Universal Helios Grand Hotel! Here at DFB, we are the food experts, so stay tuned to learn the best meals for your next Orlando vacation. It is “inspired by the majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists.” ©Disney Right now, in terms of construction, we see lots of equipment and cranes in the area. Lots of cranes It looks like the exterior of one building is tall, with a second one being partly built. Two buildings You can see all five floors pretty clearly right now! Looking good! 23. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor in Magic Kingdom‘s Tomorrowland requires quite a bit of audience participation. Laugh Floor You are invited into the Laugh Floor to help fill up a canister with laughs. As monsters tell their jokes, they rely on audience members to help with the bit and generate more laughs. One of the biggest (or worst) honors, depending on who you ask, is to be “That Guy” during a show. If you have ever wanted to be “That Guy” or maybe have wanted to avoid the distinction, we are sharing our best tips to get picked! The “That Guy” bit occurs throughout the entire show. The audience member who gets picked with this distinction pretty much becomes the punchline for the show and typically generates a lot of audience laughs. This means that if you are picked, it is best to be a good sport and go along with it, as you will be shown on screen multiple times. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor While getting picked is not an exact science, the following tips usually help you increase your chances of becoming “That Guy.” See How the Rides Change for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Wear Something Bright or Silly If you wear something that makes you stand out from the crowd, there is a chance that the person in the camera room who picks who is “That Guy” may be able to spot you more easily. For example, around the holiday season, people who wear Santa Claus hats to the park tend to have a greater chance of being called on. We have also seen people get picked who are sitting next to someone wearing something different, like a child in a princess dress. Laugh Floor Act Like You Don’t Want to Be There If you act embarrassed to be at the show or even shy, you can draw a lot of laughs, which could result in you becoming “That Guy.” While napping on attractions like the Carousel of Progress or the American Adventure have become popular as they offer a dark and air-conditioned place to rest, Laugh Floor is a live show, which means if you accidently doze off, there is a good chance you can get called out for it! Laugh Floor Get There Early and Sit Towards the Front If you want to be selected as “That Guy,” it can help you to sit closer to the front and near the end of a row so the camera can easily pan to you. You don’t get assigned a row, so simply make your way toward the rows near the front of the screen. This is easier to do if you get to the theater early and are toward the front before the doors to the theater open. The doors nearest the right-hand side will be the doors that lead you closest to the front. Stick to the right to be in the front While this might not guarantee that you will be selected, it can really help your chances! 24. When you’re ballin’ on a budget, it can be difficult to find cheap, FILLING meals around Disney World. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Sometimes, you have to get creative. Just because something isn’t listed as such doesn’t mean you can’t have it as a meal around the parks — including snacks, sides, and kids meals too. Animal Kingdom is full of hidden gems that are perfect for a quick, cheap meal and we’re heading to one of our favorite spots to check one out! We stopped by Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes at Animal Kingdom to check out an old favorite of ours — the Chicken Fried Rice for $7.99. Chicken Fried Rice What can we say about this fried rice? It’s seriously delicious and something we order time and time again at Animal Kingdom — whether we’re at the park for work or for fun! It’s savory and tender — the rice is well-cooked without being too hard or too mushy. The veggies mixed in with the rice — like the carrots and the peas — along with the savory seasonings give the dish such a familiar and warm flavor. There’s some saltiness from what tastes like soy sauce along with a sweeter, teriyaki flavor to balance things out. Chicken Fried Rice You can definitely tell it is a fried rice concoction and those little savory bits of chicken are just flavored enough to know that they’re there — but we do wish there was more of it, with larger pieces. It’s technically listed as a side on the menu, but we find it plenty filling for a meal or something to share between kiddos or a couple looking for a lighter meal. For the price, you really can’t beat it! YUM We’ll be on the lookout for more Disney World snacks to review for you — whether they’re brand-new or classic favorites! 25. Have you ever craved a nice, cold soda to quench your thirst during a long, hot day at Disney World? Coca-Cola store in Disney Springs Disney World is notorious for only selling Coca-Cola products, and if you are a fan of Pepsi’s Dr. Pepper, your best bet would be to order a Mr. Pibb, which is now known as Pibb Xtra. So we made sure to compile a running list of everywhere you can get your hands on this drink, but believe it or not, there are also a few sacred locations that serve Dr. Pepper! It is well known that Disney and Coca-Cola have a longstanding partnership and that it was agreed that only Coca-Cola products could be sold on the property, but it seems that some third-party companies have been able to sneak around this rule!
