Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is continuing with its multi-year refurbishment that has included updates for Victoria & Albert’s, Cítricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare. Next up on the list is the LOBBY! That’s right, the Grand Floridian lobby is getting a makeover. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort lobby Walking into the Grand Floridian’s lobby is a magical feeling. From the towering ceilings to the delicate accents throughout, and sometimes even some beautiful piano music, the lobby transports you with its Victorian charm. Disney Imagineers are approaching the updates carefully to maintain the “heart and story of the Grand Floridian, while adding fresh new life to the lobby for guests to enjoy,” and we just got a FIRST LOOK! Disney Imagineers will refresh the lobby, staircase, and front desk and introduce a brand-new lobby bar. The lobby will feature brand-new carpeting with Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork, “featuring hand-drawn florals inspired by turn-of-the-century botanical studies.” ©Disney The furnishings will also be updated to blend rich finishes with brass accents while still being cozy. The updates will also include botanical accents and inviting colors “to create an airy, garden-like atmosphere. ” While we love the current lobby, we are excited for it to get an update, and we can’t wait to see what the space looks like when it is finished. If you missed your chance to experience some of the BIGGEST names in Disney entertainment LIVE at Disney World, Disney’s bringing them right to your home! Cara Lindsey from “Newsies” at Disney On Broadway One of the biggest ways to kick off the new year at Disney World is by experiencing EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts, which highlights Disney On Broadway performers on select nights. While we love watching these talented folks perform live right in front of us, the festival is limited to running only a few short weeks. Luckily, if you missed them before or just want to re-live the fun, there’s a new way to help you catch it soon, and you won’t even have to leave your home! This past year marked a HUGE milestone for Disney On Broadway. While we’re used to seeing these shows live in New York during their runs and re-living the fun again and again through the Disney On Broadway performances during EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts, it seems like these performers, songs, and the joy they bring just don’t lose their charms. Aladdin on Broadway In fact, it was such a big celebration for Disney on Broadway this year that EPCOT decked out the entire inside of the ComuniCore Hall in its honor. Inside, several costumes, puppets, decorations, and dioramas were on display from some of the most notable Disney shows brought to life on Broadway, like The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Newsies, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, and more. This exhibit is amazing! BUT, if you happened to miss the celebration (or want to sing along again), Disney is bringing a brand new special to Disney+! Starting Saturday, April 12th, the official Disney on Broadway YouTube channel will debut 30 Years of Disney on Broadway Concert Celebration — LIVE from EPCOT beginning at 11 AM EST. This special is comprised of some of the biggest names in Broadway on stage at The American Gardens Theater to sing their iconic songs and reconnect with the Disney characters they brought to life. Disney On Broadway at EPCOT This is actually one of our favorite things to experience during EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts, and we can’t wait to be able to experience it in a new way from home very soon! The premiere link is already set up so check back in here on Saturday to watch. We’re constantly keeping an eye on the latest changes, updates, and more from Disney! Over the past several years, Disney World has made some major hotel changes. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort We’ve seen updated hotel rooms, refurbished lobbies, and even entirely new buildings added to some of the resorts. But one hotel that’s been getting perhaps the biggest and longest overhaul of all of them? The Grand Floridian Resort! This hotel refurbishment has been going on for YEARS now, and they’re culminating the changes with a big update to the lobby…which includes a new lobby bar. The Grand Floridian lobby refurbishment is perhaps the most highly anticipated part of the changes that were planned for the resort, and Disney has saved that big part for last. And now, as part of that construction, they’ve announced the NEW Grand Floridian Lobby Bar. ©Disney This lobby bar will be located across from the cage-style elevator, and will be inspired by the lobby’s iconic birdcage. Disney says, “The bar will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents.” Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Continuing the birdcage theme, you’ll spot colorful birds in the stained glass and murals throughout the atrium. You’ll be able to enjoy all these new touches with a delicious drink in hand — just imagine sitting in the lobby with your beverage while you take in the sounds of the Grand Floridian pianist! Lobby Based on the concept art, it appears as though the new lobby bar will be replacing the birdcage. The bar itself has an overall cage-like theme. (Are WE the birds in the cage now?!) The lobby itself will be getting new carpeting and updated furniture. The lobby currently We’ll keep you updated with more information on these changes as they’re announced. Just minutes away from the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has delighted guests with its Victorian charm and timeless atmosphere since 1988. A celebration of the golden age of travel and Florida’s lavish seaside hotels, the resort is known for its unique theming and Disney hospitality – two qualities we continue to honor during the renovation of the Grand Floridian lobby. The lobby’s renovation marks the culmination of the resort’s multi-year refurbishment, which has included enhanced guest rooms, refreshed dining experiences, including the Michelin star-awarded Victoria & Albert’s, Cítricos, Narcoossee’s and 1900 Park Fare, and more. Coming Soon: Grand Floridian Lobby Bar There’s something special about walking into the Grand Floridian—the soft piano music, glowing chandeliers, and aromatic floral arrangements create a luxurious, yet relaxing atmosphere. And soon, guests will be able to take in this ambiance with a refreshing beverage in hand, thanks to the new lobby bar! Inspired by the lobby’s iconic birdcage, the bar will pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents. You may even spot colorful birds in the stained glass and murals throughout the atrium! Opposite the bar, guests will still find the Victorian cage-style elevator that fans know and love. New Look, Same Grand Feel The surrounding lobby, staircase and front desk will be refreshed with a mix of botanical accents and inviting colors to create an airy, garden-like atmosphere. Disney Imagineers are approaching this refurbishment with great care and focus in maintaining the heart and story of the Grand Floridian, while adding fresh new life to the lobby for guests to enjoy. As shown in the new rendering, the lobby will feature beautiful new carpeting with Victorian-inspired borders and scrollwork featuring hand-drawn florals inspired by turn-of-the-century botanical studies. Updated furnishings will blend rich finishes and brass accents with cozy, welcoming fabrics–plus a few playful touches inspired by Florida’s natural beauty and Victorian decorating trends. The Magic of Staying at a Disney Resort Hotel Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is among the more than 25 Disney Resort hotels at The Most Magical Place on Earth – contributing to the nearly 29,000 guest rooms on Walt Disney World property. Guests at Disney Resort hotels like the Grand Floridian get a variety of special perks with an unbeatable location close to the magic. We are in the middle of EPCOT’s beautiful Flower and Garden Festival, and they have some amazing things to look at! Moana and Maui There are so many decorations to view that it’s easy to get lost in the beauty of it all. Because of this, you may not have noticed this subtle and SWEET new addition at the Germany Pavilion in World Showcase! World Showcase is home to 11 country pavilions — Italy, America, and Mexico to name a few. The Germany Pavilion is a fan-favorite spot for its pretty decor and, of course, its sweet treats. If you’re a caramel lover, you’ve definitely been to Karamell-Küche, which is home to all sorts of caramel treats like popcorn, candy apples, and more. Honestly, caramel lover or not, the smell is enough to draw people in! Karamell- Kuche Well, if you go in now, you’ll see that Disney Imagineers quietly threw in a special treat for National Caramel Day! Many Cast Members working at the World Showcase are from the respective countries they are working at (which is really cool), and the German Cast Members at the Germany Pavilion wanted a way to share where they’re from with guests. So Disney Imagineers created a map for the caramel shop, giving Cast Members the ability to interact with guests and share their stories from their home. @waltdisneyimagineering on Instagram Imagineers did what they do best: bringing dreams to life! They used a big printer to print out the map, and of course went the extra mile. Adding a gold foil detailing to the final print made the map look truly amazing! @waltdisneyimagineering on Instagram Once you get a close look at the map, you’ll see all the remarkable detail the Imagineers added to it. They drew inspiration from the Baroque style of the bakery building. This was more than just simply putting up a map, as it took set decoration, art decoration, and graphic design! They all had to come together to design and frame it, all while staying true to the Germany Pavilion. They even added a small Werther’s confectionary to the map — it just made sense! @waltdisneyimagineering on Instagram That’s not all that has come to the Germany Pavilion for National Caramel Day. What really is National Caramel Day without caramel treats, right?! There are now new caramel treats at both Karamell-Küche at the Germany Pavilion and Goofy’s Candy Company located at Disney Springs. @disneyeats on Instagram We’re going to need to try the new Cinnamon Whiskey-Flavored Caramel Apple! So if you don’t hear from us for a while, you know why! @disneyeats on Instagram Make sure to stop by Karamell-Küche during your next EPCOT visit. You’ll get a visual treat and one for your stomach. Throughout the year, Disneyland Resort hosts multiple Disneyland After Dark events, and they can be AWESOME if you’re a die-hard Disney fan. Let’s go! These after hours, hard-ticketed offerings have different themes depending on the season. From Sweethearts’ Nite to Grad Nite to 90s Nite, we’ve seen all kinds of fun options. But one of the most popular choices the past few years? Star Wars Nite! And we got to check it out. This year, Star Wars Nite is happening on select dates from April 8th through May 6th, and we were there on the first night of the season. Tickets start at $169 per person, and at the time of publishing, there are still some dates available! The map! The event goes from 9PM to 1AM at Disneyland Park, but those with event tickets can get inside as early as 6PM. One of the big draws for many fans is that you can dress up in costume, and there’s even a special cavalcade for those wearing Star Wars gear. But what else is available? And is it worth the cost? Let’s break it down. Entertainment There are LOTS of entertainment options available during Star Wars Nite. Make sure to bring your lightsaber along with you so you can show up at the Millennium Falcon for A Gathering of the Resistance with Rey. Disney describes it as a “powerful show of unity.” A Gathering of the Resistance with Rey If you want to learn how to wield that lightsaber like a Jedi, then head to Fantasyland Theater for the Lightsaber Instructional. This one was popular with kids and adults alike! Lightsaber Instructional Throughout the night on the Rivers of America, we spotted the iconic band Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes playing their best cantina music. They float by to add to the ambiance. Our favorite cantina band! Remember that costume cavalcade we mentioned? That’s the Fans of the Force Costume Cavalcade. Anyone dressed in Star Wars costumes or cosplay can join — you just need to meet in Town Square 10 minutes prior to the show. Fans of the Force The cavalcade marches down Main Street, U.S.A. and ends in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, where everyone takes a picture with Mickey and Minnie. How fun! The finale picture! Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga is a projection show in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that lights up the spires of Batuu. Shadows of Memory And of course, it wouldn’t be a Disney nighttime event without a DJ! You can find the Galactic DJ Party Zone on Main Street, U.S.A. Galactic DJ Party Zone Choose Your Path is an interactive duel of the fates-type show on Main Street, U.S.A. You get to watch a battle with the light and the dark! Choose Your Path Ahead of the show, make sure to find the signs around the park that let you actually CHOOSE your path. Scan the QR code for whichever side of the Force you want to represent. Choose Your Path sign And finally, you can wrap up the night with the Fond Farewell, featuring Mickey and Minnie in their Star Wars-inspired gear on the train station. Fond Farewell Seriously, there’s SO much entertainment during this event! Characters Another big draw for Star Wars Nite is the character experiences. We didn’t get the chance to see everyone, but we spotted Luke Skywalker in Galaxy’s Edge and stopped to chat. Luke Skywalker in Galaxy’s Edge In other various places around the park (check the event map for specific locations), we saw Anakin Skywalker… It’s Anakin! …Padme Amidala… Padme in her queen outfit! …an Ewok… Ewok …various droids like R2-D2… Hey R2! …and BB-8… BB-8 …and even a Jawa! Jawa Other characters you may spot include Emperor Palpatine, Boba Fett, The Mandalorian with Grogu, Ahsoka Tano, and many others. Food Offerings We tried out two different food options during our visit. First was the Wookiee Whoopie Pie at Alien Pizza Planet. This one’s inspired by Chewbacca and even has crunchy pearls lining the sides for a little extra texture. Wookiee Whoopie Pie If you’re in the mood for something more savory, we also stopped by Hungry Bear Jamboree to get the Porg Belly Sandwich. This one was a bit more satisfying for a meal. Porg Belly Sandwich There are several other specialty snacks available during the event — just check out that map to find the guide to the eats. The full food guide If you’re in the mood for a sit-down meal, you can also find specialty dining at Cafe Orleans and Oga’s Cantina during Star Wars Nite. Reservations are available on the Disneyland website or app. Click Here to Check Out Our Snack Reviews from Star Wars Nite! Merchandise They even have exclusive merchandise for Star Wars Nite! You’ll find this collection available at a few stores around the park during the event. There’s apparel, Minnie ears, pins, cups, and other exclusive collectibles. Merchandise There’s also a special Tauntaun popcorn bucket! Find this at popcorn stands during Star Wars Nite. The popcorn bucket! You’re definitely going to want to bring some bonus cash for souvenirs. Atmosphere In general, this park is a lot less crowded during Star Wars Nite than it is during the day. They sell a limited number of tickets to keep the crowds to a minimum. Crowds Walkways were pretty open throughout the night, and wait times were quite reasonable. Main Street, U.S.A. The Star Wars rides are likely going to be the most popular attractions throughout the night — Star Tours, Rise of the Resistance, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We definitely found that Galaxy’s Edge was one of the more popular places to be. Crowds in Galaxy’s Edge Ultimately, this is a great way to experience Disneyland with fewer people! Is It Worth the Cost? This event is designed specifically with Star Wars fans in mind, and if you’re a die-hard fan, then this could totally be worth the cost for you! Having the chance to dress up in costumes and cosplays in the park is a big deal, and the characters available during this event are pretty rare. Star Wars Nite Add all those things in with the awesome entertainment offerings, and this is basically a Star Wars fan’s dream come true. It celebrates all eras of the franchise, so whether you love the new movies or the OG trilogy, you’ll find something to do here. The castle all lit up. However, you ARE paying a fair amount to be in the park for a limited number of hours, so we recommend scheduling your evening out ahead of time. Make sure that you have a priority list going in of what you want to do, because it’ll be nearly impossible to accomplish everything. Tomorrowland If you’re not a Star Wars fan, you probably won’t enjoy this very much, except for the lower wait times on rides and attractions. It’s ultimately up to you whether the cost is worth it for your trip! Star Wars Nite Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on special events in Disneyland Resort. May the Force Be With You, DFB Friends! Star Wars Nite guide and Badge It is officially Season of the Force in Disneyland, and we’ve been enjoying all kinds of special entertainment, activities, and — more importantly — food. Well, we’ve also now been to the first EVER Star Wars Nite of the year, and that means we also got to try out some food EXCLUSIVE to that party. So let’s chat about it! Star Wars Nite is a special ticketed after hours event in Disneyland that goes even further to celebrate all things Star Wars. That means there are also a few exclusive food items that you can only get at the event, so YOU KNOW we had to try them out. We started with the “Porg” Belly Sandwich from Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree — and don’t worry, no Porgs were harmed to create this snack. It’s actually pork belly on a bun with Arugula Salad, Heirloom Tomato, and Honey Sambal Sauce for $15.99. “Porg” Belly Sandwich This must be one of the best quick service sandwiches we’ve had! There are so many flavors here from the smoked pork belly to the spicy honey sambal sauce. It’s not super spicy, but we will warn you it has a little kick. The tomato and arugula offers a nice cold bite with the hot pork. The only thing we could complain about is that the arugula was soggy. The French fries are beer battered and our favorite in the park. This also makes a good sized meal. All these flavors Next up was the Wookiee Whoopie Pie for $7.99 at Galactic Grill. This is a Chocolate Whoopie Pie filled with Caramel Mousse, rolled in White, Dark, and Silver Crunch Pearls with Chocolate Belt Decoration. We’ll have to say…this was a very enjoyable treat. We were a little worried at first that the outsides would be dense, but it was nice and light. Wookiee Whoopie Pie The consistency is sort of like an ice cream sandwich, and we liked the crunch the pearls added. It’s also a nice lightly sweet snack — not overpoweringly sweet. It could also be shareable, but only if you want to. We wanted to eat the whole thing ALL BY OURSELVES. A lovely treat! So overall, both snacks we tried at Star Wars Nite were hits with us, so you’ll want to make time to eat during all that extra fun you can have at the party. Stay tuned to DFB for more. You could spend SO much time at Universal’s brand-new theme park, Epic Universe. With five themed lands, there is no shortage of attractions, shops, and restaurants to discover — and we’ve started exploring it all! Isle of Berk We’ve had the chance to experience Epic Universe ahead of its official opening on May 22nd, 2025 a few times now and we still haven’t even seen all that this new park has to offer. Over in the Isle of Berk, the How To Train Your Dragon-themed land at Epic Universe, they’re serving up mac and cheese cones — and we’re bringing you along to try one! Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel is a small snack stand located in the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe — but don’t let it fool you! Hiding here are some snacks that pack a punch. Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel At Hooligan’s, you can stop by for a thirst-quenching soda, water, or beer — including a cider straight from Sweden! Drinks But, this is where you will also find mac and cheese cones! If you’ve ever tried the mac and cheese cones at the Cozy Cone Motel in Disneyland, these are kind of like that (or like a Handwich for all you elder Disney fans out there!). There are a few on the menu — the Goldfish Mac & Cheese Cone, and PB&J Cone made with Pork, Bacon, and Jam, and a Dragon Fire Chicken Spire cone that’s full of spicy elements. Snacks We picked up the Goldfish Mac & Cheese Cone for $11.99. It’s made with creamy mac and cheese with Goldfish crackers served in a crunchy cone. Sounds like a DREAM — but how did it taste? This cone is the perfect portion for one (but we wouldn’t judge you for grabbing two). The mac and cheese is creamy and flavorful—tastes like a white cheddar blend—with each bite evenly coated, not drowning in sauce. Just enough to satisfy without being overly heavy. Now here’s the fun part: there are Goldfish crackers sprinkled on top and hidden at the bottom! It adds a playful crunch that balances so well with the smooth pasta. Mac and Cheese Cone Texture game: on point. But the cone itself? Absolute star. Think of the best parts of an Olive Garden breadstick—soft, buttery, slightly garlicky—and then add the perfect crunch on the outside. We could eat the bread cone on its own and be happy. They had other mac and cheese cone flavors, and you can bet we’ll be back to try the rest. This one definitely earned a spot on our “must-eat” list at Epic Universe! Look at those Goldfish! We can’t WAIT to bring you more inside looks at Epic Universe and will be doing so after the park opens! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest Epic Universe and Disney World news. Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> Will you be heading to Epic Universe when it opens at Universal Orlando Resort? Tell us in the comments. Disney World is known for a lot of things, but one of the primary ones is its incredible shows and fireworks displays. Happily Ever After Specifically, Happily Ever After in Magic Kingdom causes many people to cry nostalgic tears, especially when Tinker Bell flies, and Luminous in EPCOT has a large group of fans, too. However, sometimes being in the massive crowds to see these shows isn’t ideal, especially if you don’t do well with crowds. It’s also a bummer if you have to leave the parks to make your flight home in time…or is it? We just found out something that is a MAJOR game changer at Orlando International Airport (MCO) that you 100% may want to take advantage of before/after your next flight! We just found out that there’s a very easy way for you to see the fireworks across essentially all of Orlando’s theme parks from MCO Airport, and it doesn’t even cost anything extra! Listed on their website, MCO Airport says, “The Terminal Top Parking garage is also one of the highest points around, and provides excellent views of the airfield, downtown Orlando, and the attractions, including the nightly fireworks displays.” ©MCO Now, you won’t be able to hear the music from these shows, of course, but if you’ve got a later night flight and want to ensure you’re there in plenty of time, this is a great way to get one last dose of the magic in before you head home. Parking Garage There are many different ways to see Disney World fireworks without having to be in the midst of the largest crowds. In Magic Kingdom, watching the show from behind the castle can also be a great choice, or from the very beginning of Main Street, U.S.A., so you can see all the projections. In EPCOT, you can see the show as you walk around World Showcase and can find a less crowded spot as you walk, or just continue a loop and watch it as you move around. Okay, Star Wars fans, we hope you’re sitting down, because April and May are the two months out of the year that are now dedicated to all things from the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Not only has Season of the Force started in Disneyland (with some amazing food and merchandise), but Star Wars Nite has also started and May the 4th is just around the corner. However, another BIG Star Wars event is happening from April 18th through April 20th…and we’re expecting some pretty big Star Wars reveals and news. Star Wars Celebration Japan is happening from April 18th through April 20th. If you’re not familiar with Star Wars Celebration, it’s a HUGE event attended by Star Wars fans from around the world and features panels, LOADS of Star Wars celebrities, activities, shopping, and more. It’s like a Comic Con…but it’s ALL Star Wars. ©Disney However, there are also a TON of panels, with many revealing huge Star Wars announcements. That means we’re probably about to get a lot of new details about that Rey-focused movie that was announced a while back PLUS more details about Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie potentially starring Ryan Gosling. ©Disney That’s not all, though. We could learn more about Star Wars in Disney Parks around the world, and maybe even get more details about The Mandalorian and Grogu joining Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Maybe Disney will also drop a date on when the BDX droids will make appearances in Disney World, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland. Of course, we’re sure there will also be some big surprise announcements made, too! ©SXSW We’ll be keeping an eye out for ALL the big announcements, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Disney is in the business of pumping out cruise ships these days! The Disney Fantasy The Disney Treasure set sail for the first time last year, and we’re expecting both the Disney Destiny and the Disney Adventure later in 2025. But if you’re a devoted fan of some of the older ships, then you’ll be happy to know that the Disney Fantasy is getting some updates! Disney Cruise Line announced that the Disney Fantasy is updating some of the spaces onboard this fall. First, you’ll now be able to get poolside tacos and bowls at Ramone’s Cantina, inspired by the character from Cars. ©Disney The new dining location is decked out in Ramone’s iconic purple and fits right in next to Tow Mater Grill. How charming! This offering already exists on the Disney Dream, so we’re excited to see it on the Fantasy as well. ©Disney Those who take a cruise for relaxation will also be glad to know that Senses Spa is getting some “updated spaces.” ©Disney This is a great place to unwind during your trip and get treatments like massages, steam rooms, aroma stone therapy, facials, and more. ©Disney Also, the Disney Fantasy is getting a brand-new funnel suite inspired by none other than Sorcerer Mickey! They shared a peek at the statue of the iconic character. ©Disney The space will be decorated in rich blues and golds, and the living area provides excellent views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Now THAT’S a suite! ©Disney Outside of these updates, Disney Cruise Line has also announced that the Fantasy will get an “ethereal” concierge lounge update inspired by Hercules, and that Edge will be relocating to Deck 5 with new features and fun additions. ©Disney Cruise Line So if you’re sailing on the Disney Fantasy later this year, be on the lookout for these changes. Disney World is undergoing some pretty intense refurbishments and adding some massive construction projects over the next few years. Animal Kingdom construction Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for refurbishment through at least the beginning of 2026, Dinoland U.S.A. has begun its transition into Pueblo Esperanza, It’s Tough to Be A Bug just closed to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Disney more recently announced another massive closure that will take at least a year. Disney announced that beginning in August 2025, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom would be undergoing a pretty intense refurbishment. When it reopens, we’ll see a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements, and more! The only problem? Yeah, this refurbishment will also take AT LEAST a year. ©Disney Why the long wait? Well, Disney isn’t just smoothing out the track. There are a few big reasons why this project is going to take many months to complete. It’s Getting All New Ride Vehicles We’ve heard some Disney World guests over the years say that they wish the ride vehicles on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin were a little more themed to him/the franchise, and it looks like those dreams may finally be coming true! ©Disney The new vehicles will have a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, but it’s more than just a paint job being done. From what Disney has said, we’re getting ENTIRELY new ride vehicles, and that means testing them out time and time again to ensure they’re working to full capacity. That doesn’t just happen overnight. New Game Playing Enhancements! Even more exciting than the new paint job, and the main reason why Disney can’t just slap paint on the existing vehicles and call it a day, is that there are NEW additions being added to each ride ride vehicle. ©Disney No longer will you struggle to get that blaster stuck to the vehicle to move at the perfect angle, because new handheld shooters are coming to this ride! Additionally, Disney has confirmed that video monitors providing real-time scoring updates and other exciting features will also be added. With all that technology, it means that LOTS of testing will need to take place to ensure the new shooters are properly lined up and interacting with each target throughout the ride, which are ALSO getting a facelift with new technology. A NEW Scene and A NEW Character As if that wasn’t enough, Disney also confirmed that a friendly robot named “Buddy” will be added to the attraction to make sure you’re prepared for your mission. It’s sounding like Buddy will be in the last part of the queue, or at the beginning of the attraction before you make it to the targets, because Buddy will also be able to show you what some of the new, interactive target features can do before you blast off. ©Disney Yes, that means that there will be an entirely NEW scene in the ride! We’re expecting this means that a current scene towards the beginning of the experience is being completely revamped. Again, this can’t happen overnight — they’ve got to test and install what we assume will be a new animatronic, record its lines and match it up, then build the rest of the scene around it. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin We’re so excited for all of these changes, but can’t help but recognize that this closure will come as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is still closed, Villains Land is being heavily worked on behind Big Thunder, and while we’re still awaiting the official closing date of Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat, we’re heavily speculating it will be before the end of 2025. This means that there will be multiple major attractions/areas closed at once, and we’re not looking forward to seeing what that will do for crowds! We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest Disney World construction news, so stay tuned to DFB! Experts Predict When Disney World Will Announce a Fifth Park Planning a Trip to Disney World? A couple of my professional colleagues teased me because I used a pen and a tiny notebook during a recent media tour of Epic Universe. For me, it’s faster that way, keeps me organized and doesn’t drain any batteries. My little notebook slipped into a back pocket and was acceptable for most rides. It has seen things. That notebook is the source for these quick and sweaty odds and ends that didn’t fit into my first impressions story. The usual disclaimers: The park is still in “technical rehearsal,” so hiccups and mysteries may continue. Remember the official opening day of Epic Universe is May 22. Oh, and there shall be (mild) spoilers in the paragraphs that follow. Super Nintendo World is not only bright, you can dance to it. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)• Mercy, there’s a lot going on in Super Nintendo World. Not only is it extremely visual, the soundtrack is relentless, but in a way that has everyone bobbing their heads, about to start a videogame dance party. It’s a bop, as the kids used to say. On an earlier visit to Epic, a man who eventually found the bathroom exclaimed, “I feel like the victory music should be playing.” • The crowds are limited during Epic previews, so the queues are nowhere near capacity, and the empty long and winding ways are a sobering indication of expected demand. This is especially true for Mine-Cart Madness in Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. (I came away a little worried about the black chains that are practically invisible in the ministry queue, but maybe having people there will make the conga line clearer.) • Another good but dark queue is for Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment in Dark Universe. There’s good reading and the blue light through-line carries onto the actual ride. • Directional signs in Darkmoor, the setting for Dark U., point toward a handful of cities. My favorite: Duskborough. • The bell that tolls occasionally in Darkmoor is a shout-out to Quasimodo. The on-ground characters in the neighborhood were strong, including the bandaged-up Invisible Man, who may be using Halloween Horror Nights lurking methods. An actor playing Hiccup poses for photos with Toothless the dragon and guests in the How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)• A favorite effect involves faux fire in “The Untrainable Dragon” show in How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk. Of course, it’s no flying dragon, a big crowd-pleaser. The buzziest part of Berk is probably the Toothless meet and greet. • New park, new names to learn. That cold-blasting animatronic in Berk is the snow wraith; Apollo and Luna are the gods at opposite ends of Celestial Park (they have day and night shifts, respectively); the tracks for Stardust Racers coaster are called Pulsar (the green one) and Photon (yellow). The queue for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry features Dolores Umbridge, whose trial is the focal point of the ride. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)• It might be a little lazy to compare new rides with known attractions, but here’s my description of Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. It’s Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride plus Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Islands of Adventure) with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) stirred in. • Tip for coping with Epic waits: Look up. There are interesting design touches all over the ceilings, including the Constellation Carousel, Oak & Star Tavern and the queue to Curse of the Werewolf, among others. • Most murmured at Epic Universe media event: What about fireworks? Disneyland is almost ready to celebrate its 70th anniversary, and we can’t to experience all the offerings — new and returning! ©Disney To enhance this milestone anniversary — which will be celebrated May 16th, 2025 and wrap up in the summer of 2026 — Disneyland is introducing some new show and character experiences in addition to bringing back some fan-favorite experiences that have since left the resort over the years. Speaking of returning goodies, there are some now-defunct Disney snacks we hope make their return as part of the celebrations. The Disneyland Resort is teasing some surprises for the 70th anniversary celebration, which will likely include snacks! While we wait to see what exactly will be offered, there are three snacks we sorely miss and hope return during the festivities. ©Disney Fudge Easter Eggs The Easter season is here at Disneyland, and we already confirmed that the famous Fudge Easter eggs won’t be returning in 2025. Fudge Easter Egg HOWEVER, as we previously mentioned, the 70th anniversary will be celebrated well into 2026, meaning this special treat could return in the spring of 2026. The iconic treat WON’T be returning this year These eggs were so popular that — last year — they could only be ordered via Mobile Order on the Disneyland app. Last year, the eggs were only available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Fudge Easter Egg In years past, we’ve seen this delicious egg feature flavors like Chocolate Nut, Vanilla Nut, Chocolate Cream, Black Walnut, and Peanut Butter Fudge. The eggs were eight ounces in size, making this treat worth the trek to “The Happiest Place on Earth”. We miss this delicious treat and hope it returns in 2026. Caramel Apple Funnel Cake Once served at the Hungry Bear Restaurant (now known as the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree), the Caramel Apple Funnel Cake has been missing — and has been missed — for years now. If Disneyland is trying to bring back fan-favorites as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations, this is a prime candidate. Caramel Apple Funnel Cake from Hungry Bear Debuting in 2014 for Halloween Time, this phenomenal dessert was made fresh to order and was enormous. Topped with powdered sugar and caramel drizzle, a generous scoop of perfectly cubed and fresh granny smith apples really elevated this treat into something truly unforgettable. Caramel Apple Funnel Cake Close Up Tasting like a freshly dipped warm gooey caramel apple mixed with homemade whipped cream, this funnel cake was light and fluffy and featured that famous Mickey shape. We miss this so much, Disney — please bring it back! The Previous Version of the Monte Cristo Sandwich The Monte Cristo Sandwich at Cafe Orleans is still popular to this day — for good reason — but it used to be even better. Classic Monte Cristo….yum. Back in 2021, Cafe Orleans changed how it served the Monte Cristo, switching to half-sized portions. Before the pandemic in 2020, Disneyland served this sandwich in four hefty slices — enough to share with a few folks. Now it’s served in just two. Monte Cristo The original also used to come with a handful of grapes, as well. You can now get the Battered & Fried Triple Cheese Monte Cristo Sandwich (brie, swiss, and mozzarella with seasonal preserves and choice of pommes frites or petite salad) or the Battered & Fried Monte Cristo Sandwich (sliced turkey, ham, and swiss with seasonal preserves and choice of pommes frites or petite salad) for $25 each. They’re both still worth getting, but we’d love to see Disneyland embrace tradition with this one and go back to the OG for the 70th anniversary. There used to be 4 wedges here We’re excited to see what Disneyland has in store for this massive celebration!
