It’s time again for the largest and most unique pediatric 5K walk in the nation – CHOC “Walk in the Park,” presented by Disneyland Resort. On October 30, participants will walk approximately three miles through Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park, raising funds one step at a time for CHOC Children’s programs and services in greatest need — from mental health services to an expanded neonatal intensive care unit. Last year’s walk raised more than $2.5 million for the hospital’s KidsCARE Fund, bringing the quarter-century total to more than $26 million. Walkers from around the world participate, including Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan. Many Disneyland Resort cast members also participate through the Disney VoluntEARS walk team and several pre-event fundraising efforts, such as a silent auction with gift baskets creatively wrapped by cast members, all to make a difference in the lives of children and families. In this video, Ian McQuire, an attractions host in Tomorrowland, who has walked with his family since 2009, shares how CHOC Children’s Hospital positively impacted his family. Remember when the popular little Margarita Stand in the Mexico Pavilion closed early this summer to make way for the Frozen attraction construction in Norway? Former Mexico Margarita Stand Plenty of us were sad to see it go. Even though our top prize for Margaritas goes to La Cava del Tequila (which is tucked inside the Mexico Pavilion’s pyramid), many of us carry a soft spot for the home to those layered Fiesta Margaritas that were a go-to Mexico stop during an attempt at Drinking Around the World! Layered Margarita Well, it seems bigger and better things may be on the way to Epcot’s Mexico… . Check out the construction walls in the Pavilion. These are situated to the left of the Mexico pyramid. A few weeks ago, we shared some welcome news — Sanaa is testing a quickservice breakfast offering! We had so many comments and questions that we decided to head back there to get a few more details. First up, we have to caution you: we could not get a definite answer about how long breakfast at Sanaa will stick around. For now, Cast Members continue to tell us that it’s in a “testing phase.” We did note, however, that breakfast had not been added to the Sanaa signs outside of the restaurant. Sign — Still Not Updated with Breakfast Service Basically, this is a makeshift breakfast situation. Nothing points to this being a permanent offering. But for now, here are your options for Grab and Go and Quick Service. And yes — they are accepting the Disney Dining Plan. A meal here will set you back one quick service meal credit. In addition to the normal Disney breakfast fare, we definitely spotted some notables, like African Breakfast Cereal, Banana Bread with African Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, and Boerewors Sausage and Egg Bobotie Pie. Menu — Click to Enlarge Our intrepid DFB reporter had this to share: They essentially just set up a couple of the dining room tables with grab and go items, and have warming plates with Bobotie and Cinnamon Rolls. You can order hot breakfast at the register. Breakfast hours are 7-10. The Cast Member couldn’t give me any details on how long they will be serving breakfast here, but it is definitely still in a testing period. The Set Up There are Bottled Drinks on ice and Cereal for guests in a hurry. Grab and Go Station Grab and Go — Up Close Cereals and Jelly A Pasty Case holds an assortment of Bagels, Muffins, and Croissants. Pastries We LOVE the idea of fresh Banana Bread slathered with African Chocolate Hazelnut Spread! Banana Bread with African Chocolate Hazelnut Spread It’s also pretty awesome that you have another spot to get your on-the-go Bobotie fix, besides The Mara. (You’ll also find the quiche-like dish at Tusker House and Boma.) Hot Station with Bobotie Kidani Village has needed more food options for, well, basically forever. You can never have too many Disney mugs. If your kitchen cabinet looks anything like mine, it’s full of mugs and you’re still excited to find more that you “need.” And, I think you’re gonna need one of these new mugs from the Magic Kingdom’s Confectionery on Main Street, U.S.A. Main Street Confectionery entrance There are four new mugs featuring a few of our favorites: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy! These are the perfect mugs to bring a little Disney into your day at home. Each mug is 5 inches tall and features designs with different characters and sayings related to your work life! Mickey Working Day Mug Mickey’s has a sleepy Mickey on one side with happy Mickey on the other. It has a bright red color inside (to wake you up, I guess!) and says “Mickey makes Monday feel like Friday.” Each mug also has the little Mickey heads in the background in a matching color — I think they’re adorable, and they remind me a little of Spaceship Earth in Epcot. Goofy Working Day Mug Goofy’s mug is perfect for all you night owls. One side has a sleepy Goofy on a pillow and the other says, “There are three types of mornings: early, too early and WAY too early,” and the inside is a pea-green color like Goofy’s hat. Donald Working Day Mug If you’ve got a little bit of an attitude like our favorite angry bird, Donald, you’ll want this mug with Donald at a computer on one side and “Go ahead, it’s friday, Reply All…” on the other side! The inside of this one is a signature Donald blue. Minnie and Daisy Working Day Mug And no mug collection would be complete without including the ladies of the fab five! Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck share a mug that has the two chatting over coffee on one side and “We’re not gossiping, we’re… Networking” on the other. Tennis superstar Serena Williams took a break from her tennis training and popped by Walt Disney World Resort this past weekend. And fittingly Williams spent a lot of time with Princess Merida. Having beat the odds in conquering the world of professional tennis, Williams has a lot in common with Princess Merida’s character in the Disney•Pixar movie “Brave.” In fact, Williams said Merida is one of her favorite Disney characters because she identifies with the strength and courage that Merida exhibited in the movie. While at Magic Kingdom Park, Princess Merida gave Williams some tips on archery and Williams even took a few turns at it herself. And, not surprisingly, she actually hit the center of the target! I recently shared details about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story merchandise now available at Disney Parks. Today, I have a look at other Star Wars-themed products coming to Disney Parks this fall. One of the coolest items I found was the Imperial Comlink Bluetooth Communicator. A comlink is a standard handheld communication device used by the Empire. You might recall seeing it used in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope when Luke Skywalker communicates from the trash compactor with C-3PO. This Bluetooth enabled device allows you to take calls and play music when connected to your smart device. It’s rechargeable and comes with a belt clip. Just to give you a sense of the comlink in action, I borrowed a replica Stormtrooper costume offered for sale at Star Wars Launch Bay to create the lead image in this article. Being a long time Star Wars fan, it made for an incredibly fun afternoon at the office. Arriving in mid-December, guests will find a new remote controlled Mouse Droid. You may also recall seeing this droid in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope when Chewbacca roars at one while on the Death Star. This remote control droid makes sounds and includes rechargeable batteries. On October 17, we will release three new Dooney & Bourke handbags inspired by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Look for these handbags in The Star Trader at Disneyland park in California or Legends of Hollywood at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Fans of Star Wars Droid Factory at Disney Parks will find two new carded Astromech droid action figures this fall. The R2-B00 figure is currently available, while the R2-H16 droid will be released during the upcoming holiday season. Speaking of droids, guests can keep warm this fall with new blankets inspired by BB-8 and R2-D2. Coming soon to the Disney Parks online store, we will release the second collection of Ewok plush. This collection of six plush includes a variant Wicket, Tokkat, Latara, Widdle, Shodu and Winda. The basket will also have Kaink who will also be released individually at Disney Parks in December. Finally, the Starspeeder 1000 playset will returns this holiday season. You may recall we first introduced this playset in 2011. This playset has been updated with a new interchangeable destination disk featuring Jakku from Star Wars The Force Awakens. When placed in the front screen of the toy vehicle, you can hear dialogue from the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue attraction. With Halloween only a few short weeks away, I went searching for #WonderFALLDisney treats from Disney Parks. These items are different from the Halloween goodies shared by my fellow author Rachel Bshero as seen in her pumpkin-themed Disney Parks Best Bites story. The items below were developed by the Disney Parks Merchandise team, and may be found in a variety of merchandise locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Disney Parks offers a variety of pre-packaged and freshly made items. I found pumpkin-shaped cookies, candy corn cupcakes, and festive Rice Krispies treats. At Beverly Sunset on Sunset Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will find a delicious Orange Cream Whoopie Pie. As part of the Halloween collection this year, we released three decorative goodie bags that contain candy corn or pumpkin-shaped gummy treats. A bundle of Mickey Mouse shaped lollipops is one of our more popular items. Guests may also find pumpkin spice pretzels, or fun cauldrons containing hot chocolate mixes with marshmallows. Finally, locations with show kitchens offer decorative candy apples in the shape of pumpkins, ghosts, or witches. A true taste of fall is sweet apple butter, made with slow-cooked apples, sugar and a dash of lemon juice and vinegar to add tartness. Narcoossee’s serves their version at Sunday brunch with the crispy chicken and waffles, but it’s a tasty condiment for almost any meal – and delicious all by itself on a slice of warm buttered toast. Narcoossee’s leisurely brunch kicks off with a glass of Champagne, a mimosa or Bloody Mary each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu includes everything from just-caught fish to brioche French toast and lobster eggs Benedict. And, of course, the stack of waffles and fried chicken with a dollop of apple butter. (For reservations, 407-WDW-DINE, or Disneyworld.com/dining.) If you can’t join us for brunch, the chefs happily share their recipe for you to make at home. Narcoossee’s Apple Butter Makes 1 Pint 6 cups Fuji apples, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes 1 cup apple juice 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon ice wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 vanilla bean Place apples, juice, brown sugar and salt in a large saucepan. Bring to simmer over medium heat. Cover and reduce heat to low. Continue simmering for 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Remove from heat. Stir in lemon juice, vinegar, cinnamon and cloves. Split vanilla bean in half, lengthwise and scrape out seeds with a knife. Add to pan and puree with an immersion blender until smooth. Return saucepan to stove and simmer over low heat, stirring every 5 minutes, for 30 minutes, until mixture is a deep amber color and apple butter reaches desired thickness. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove any excess liquid. Store in refrigerator for up to 7 days. View the full article

Today we’re trying out a couple of drinks and a seasonal cupcake at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Learn About: Trout Pass Bar Polynesian Resort Disney World Restaurants When we’re imbibing at this beautiful resort, we’re usually paying a visit to one of our favorite bars in Disney World, Territory Lounge. Today, though, we’re stepping outside to enjoy some drinks at Trout Pass Pool Bar. Even if you aren’t going for a dip in Silver Creek Springs Pool, you can still stop by Trout Pass if you’re checking out Fire Rock Geyser or just exploring the grounds. At Trout Pass, you’ll certainly find plenty of the pool bar drinks that are standards on the Disney Pool Bar Menu, like the Captain’s Mai Tai, the Banana Cabana, and the Pina CoLAVA. But, Trout Pass has also started following the fun trend at spots like the Polynesian Village Resort’s Barefoot Pool Bar, Pop Century’s Petals Pool Bar, and Muddy Rivers at Port Orleans Riverside, where specialty drinks themed to the Resort are available at the pool bars as well. This used to be the norm at the pool bars, but then things got all homogenous. I’m glad to see they’re coming back! Only at Trout Pass, things work a bit differently. Trout Pass Pool Bar Daily Drinks The specialty offerings rotate as part of the Daily Drink Specials, featuring a different specialty cocktail for each day of the week. You’ll find a nice variety of both iced and frozen drinks for a warm Florida day by the pool! The Northwest theme of the resort is echoed in the names of the beverages like the Lumberjack, Ponderosa Pine, and Silver Creek Peach. Daily Drink Menu Our visit was on a Monday, so the Mt. Rainier, it was! Two types of rum — Don Q Cristal Rum and Myers’s Original Dark Rum — are layered with frozen piña colada mix and garnished with two cherries and a pineapple wedge. (I always love seeing that Wilderness Lodge swizzle stick! I remember my first stay here so many years ago and feeling so awesome to finally get one of these. I still feel awesome when I get them!) Mt. Rainier In terms of creativity this is one of the simpler drinks on the menu. The Mt. Rainier is, in essence, your basic piña colada, but the two rums gives it some extra flavor and definitely aid in strengthening the drink (the rum was very pronounced). Mt. Rainier Both the Don Q Cristal Rum and Myers’s Original Dark Rum are on the sweeter and smoother side, so they blend well with the sweet taste of the pina colada mix. Still, we’ve got one more drink to try… Witch’s Brew and Mt. Rainier Seasonal Specialties Here’s another fun find at Trout Pass: they are trying to bring back some of their seasonal drinks, which are typically available for one month. (Thanks to our friend Daniel Staten for the heads up!) October’s seasonal beverage is the Halloween-themed Witch’s Brew made with Skyy Vodka, Bols Blackberry Brandy, Bols Blue Curacao, grenadine, Sprite, and sweet-and-sour mix. Witch’s Brew sign Unlike the Daily Drinks (and any drink on the regular menu), this one is served in a hard plastic glass that is yours to keep if you’d like (that and the inclusion of three different liquors are likely what add up to the $12.00 price tag). Witch’s Brew You’ve likely noticed it comes complete with a glow cube that changes colors to give the “brew” alternating purple, red and blue tones to complement its dark, creepy color . Witch’s Brew I’m not usually a fan of brandy so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this drink! You can certainly taste the warmth of the brandy, but its blackberry flavor combined with the tart from the other ingredients makes it quite smooth, even though the alcohol flavor is strong with this drink, too. Pumpkin Cupcake at Roaring Fork Okay, we’ve got one more treat for you from Wilderness Lodge, because we couldn’t resist stepping back inside to check out the cupcake selection at Roaring Fork, which is a must-do with any visit. Even though pumpkin treats aren’t difficult to find anywhere in Disney World during September and October, Roaring Fork’s version of the Pumpkin Cupcake is worth seeking out. Pumpkin Cupcake The pumpkin cake base is topped with yellow and orange swirled cinnamon buttercream icing. (Hubba hubba!!) But the pièce de résistance is the cutest little pumpkin-flavored macaron that sits on top of the whole thing! Mini Pumpkin Macaron I thought the balance of cake to the pumpkin filling tucked inside was just right with this one, and I loved the change-up with the choice of cinnamon buttercream over cream cheese. Inside the Pumpkin Cupcake Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the combo of pumpkin and cream cheese, but because it’s in such abundance this time of year, I really appreciated the generous cinnamon flavor here. Cinnamon Buttercream Icing Roaring Fork’s Pumpkin Cupcake is $5.59 and snack credit eligible on the Disney Dining Plan, and it just might be my favorite pumpkin flavored Disney treat I’ve tried this season. The only not-so-unfortunate side effect was a craving for a FULL SIZE of that awesome mini pumpkin macaron! There’s my suggestion to the Wilderness Lodge chefs for next year! The Cast Member we spoke with thinks the Pumpkin Cupcake has a shot at possibly staying through the beginning of November, but the Witch’s Brew will likely only be available at Trout Pass Pool Bar through the end of the month. But we’ll have fun searching out the next Seasonal Specialty… and if that means stopping by and sampling a few more of those Daily Drinks, then so be it .
