SeaWorld Orlando officials announced the death Sunday of a 50-year-old killer whale named Katina. “Her health had begun to significantly decline as she entered her geriatric years,” the theme park posted on its social media. “Over the last several weeks, our animal care and medical teams have worked around the clock to closely monitor her declining health and as her condition worsened, the decision was made to prioritize her comfort and welfare.” The post stated Katina was known for a habit of sticking her tongue out and enjoyed the “speed swim” that created a cyclone of water. “Despite everyone’s extraordinary efforts, she passed away while surrounded by animal care and medical teams who have worked closely with her for nearly 40 years,” the post added. The orca whale gave birth to seven calves during her time at the theme park. PETA, which opposes the captivity of orcas by SeaWorld and similar attractions, stated Katina was the 46th orca to die while in the care of SeaWorld, including four of Katina’s offspring. PETA said Katina was originally removed from the wild in 1978 when only 2 years old off the coast of Iceland, and was one of only three remaining orcas that were captured in the wild still at one of SeaWorld’s parks. Katina was the only one of those at the Orlando location. “After being ripped away from her pod in the waters off Iceland in 1978, Katina was confined to small concrete cells for life,” said PETA President Tracy Reiman in an emailed statement. PETA states orcas can swim 150 miles in a day and live up to 80 years old in the wild. The organization states more than 500 dolphins and whales have died at SeaWorld. View the full article

The “Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade” will be televised Dec. 25, and it will feature performances from all four Walt Disney World theme parks and other attractions. Viewers will see Lady A sing “Winter Wonderland” from Epcot’s World Celebration Gardens, Bebe Rexha perform “Last Christmas” at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom, Coco Jones with “This Christmas” from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Mariah the Scientist with “Please Come Home for Christmas” at the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Lady A's performance from Epcot will be seen in the 'Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade' telecast on Dec. 25 on ABC. (Courtesy Omar Reyes/Walt Disney Co.) Other performers will include Nicole Scherzinger as well as Gwen Stefani from Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and Iam Tongi performing from Aulani, the Disney resort in Hawaii. The prerecorded broadcast is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro (“Dancing With the Stars”) and Ginnifer Goodwin (“Zootopia 2”). Maia Kealoha, the 9-year-old actress who plays Lilo in the 2025 live-action film “Lilo and Stitch,” serves as “parade correspondent,” Disney says. Gennifer Goodwin and Alfonso Ribeiro are the hosts for the 2025 edition of "Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade" on ABC. (Courtesy Omark Reyes/Walt Disney Co.) The production also includes parade footage from Magic Kingdom’s Main Street USA with floats and Disney characters. It airs on Disney-owned ABC at 10 a.m. on Christmas Day, then streams on Disney+, Hulu and the Disney YouTube channel at 11 a.m. The broadcast remains available for streaming through Jan. 4. Folks wanting a real-life parade experience at Magic Kingdom can see “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” at noon and 3 p.m. daily through Dec. 31 at the theme park. It is staged like it is during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The park is running its “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” parade, which debuted this year, at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Also still streaming is “The Wonderful World of Disney: Holiday Spectacular,” which originally aired Dec. 1. The show — also available on Disney+, Hulu and YouTube — features entertainers such as Trisha Yearwood, Good Charlotte and Aloe Blacc, plus appearances by Ke Huy Quan and Nate Torrence from “Zootopia 2.” The show is narrated by Goodwin and hosted by Derek Hough, who also dances in the program. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article

Five people have filed separate lawsuits against Universal Orlando Resort, claiming they suffered severe and permanent injuries — in some cases, bleeding of the brain, spinal cord damage and paralysis — after their heads slammed repeatedly against the seat in front of them while riding Stardust Racers at the new Epic Universe theme park. It’s the same intense roller coaster that 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala rode on the night of Sept. 17 and died shortly afterward. Filed Thursday in Orange County, the lawsuits come just days after the attorney for Zavala’s family announced a confidential settlement and “amicable resolution” with the theme park regarding his death. Witnesses said they saw Zavala’s head slam repeatedly against the seat in front of him during the ride, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s report released two days earlier. The lawsuits also name Mack Rides, a German-based company that designed and manufactured Stardust Racers, as a defendant. The riders all seek more than $50,000 in damages, primarily to help pay for ongoing medical costs. A spokeswoman for Universal Orlando Resort said the company does not comment on pending litigation. Representatives for Mack Rides did not answer a request for comment. In one of the lawsuits, Bonita Freeman of Appomattox, Va., said her head “was violently shaken, repeatedly” while riding Stardust Racers on Aug. 13. She has since suffered paralysis and now requires spinal surgery, according to the suit. Universal failed to warn her that her head, neck and spine could be shaken and slammed against the headrest or other hard surfaces during the ride, Orlando attorney Nick Spetsas, who filed Freeman’s and the other lawsuits, said Friday. “I think the ride is inherently dangerous,” he said. “If you’re going to let people on the ride, then you have to make it safe to ride. You can make a ride that’s thrilling, but that is also safe.” Spetsas added some of the injured riders had to be taken to an emergency room after getting off Stardust Racers and “everyone experienced pain.” Jason Rodriguez of Miami-Dade County and Brittany Smiley of Fairfield, Ohio, also claim they suffered permanent injuries after riding the roller coaster on Sept. 14. Although Epic Universe opened to the public on May 22, Breanna Bradford of Brevard County was invited by the theme park to preview the attraction on April 2. So was Debbie Reinelt, of Henderson, N.C., who attended on May 5. Both women in their lawsuits claimed they suffered permanent injuries. Spetsas said that the some of the most severe injuries involved bleeding of the brain and a spinal cord injury after riding Stardust Racers. But he did not specify which of the riders who filed the lawsuits suffered those injuries. Although the injuries occurred between April and September, Spetsas said his law firm had been trying for weeks to reach settlements with the theme park giant. “We tried to work with Universal to amicably resolve these cases without litigation,” he said. “Our efforts were unsuccessful.” The lawsuits also state that Mack Rides “failed to properly design and test Stardust Racers to ensure that riders would not sustain injuries in the normal course of its operation.” The suits point out that the ride lacks any sort of head restraints The Orange County Sheriff’s report released on Dec. 11 ruled Zavala’s death as accidental. Family members said he had a spinal condition since birth and used a wheelchair. The roller coaster reaches a speed of 62 mph and rises up to 133 feet. According to the Sheriff’s report, Zavala was flung forward and had lost consciousness by the time the ride ended. The report states that Zavala was covered with blood and one of his legs was broken. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Even though the Sheriff’s report said no criminal charges are warranted, Spetsas said Universal still could be negligent in Zavala’s death or injuries to other riders. “These are not frivolous lawsuits,” he said. “We haven’t even conducted our discovery yet. But we intend to do that to figure out exactly what happened.” Spetsas also represented Sandi Streets, a 49-year-old Sanford woman who sued Universal Orlando Resort last September, claiming she suffers from permanent injuries after riding Stardust Racers in April. She later settled the lawsuit privately with the theme park. Attorney Ben Crump represented Zavala’s family. View the full article

The festive season is in full swing, so you’ll likely find our Disney Parks Blog team stationed in front of the Favorites of Festivals Past Holiday Kitchen at EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays presented by AdventHealth. This has become one of our favorite stops, featuring popular dishes — like Reuben Croquettes, Brown Sugar and Mustard-glazed Ham Sliders, and a Panettone Holiday Trifle — inspired from previous EPCOT festivals. And this year, we were given the opportunity to try the beloved dishes and beverages, so I teamed up with Nicole from Disney Eats to sample the menu. I hope you ate before reading this story, because these descriptions are making me hungry as I’m writing it down. Here’s what you need to know on this foodie stop. Where to Find Favorites of Festivals Past (and What’s Nearby) Make your way to CommuniCore Hall to find Favorites of Festivals Past right at the heart of World Celebration. This holiday kitchen will be open for the rest of the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, until December 30, 2025. While you’re grabbing a bite, sit near the CommuniCore Plaza Stage to hear JOYFUL! A Celebration of the Season. There will likely be a few hits you recognize since the ensemble is performing Gospel, Rhythm, and Blues tunes that celebrate the spirit of Christmas and Kwanzaa. You can also travel inside the hall to meet Santa Claus or grab one of the delicious cookies that’s available this year as part of the Holiday Cookie Stroll. Reuben Croquettes If you take away one thing from this blog, I hope it’s this — the Reuben Croquettes are delightful and are now my go-to festival item. These five croquettes are filled with pastrami, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese and come with Thousand Island dipping sauce on the side. It’s a ton of flavor in a small bite. Plus, if you’re with a group, this delicious dish can easily be divided among the team. Brown Sugar and Mustard-glazed Ham Sliders Are you looking for a heartier option that has a little sweetness? Then, you’ll want to check out the fan-favorite slider. Packed with flavor, Nicole and I both enjoyed the depth that the cranberry and apple coleslaw added to each bite. Nestled in between a Hawaiian roll, the vibrant flavors added a punch to the holiday classic. Panettone Holiday Trifle Every dish from this marketplace included an ample serving, and this trifle is no exception. Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth, the Panettone Holiday Trifle is topped with an eggnog custard and includes a cranberry-cherry compote and sugared almonds. Grab your spoon and make sure you get every ingredient from this layered dessert. My favorite part was the burst of flavor from the tart cranberry-cherry compote, which was complemented by the creamy custard. There is no better way to enjoy the day than with a festive treat, and this trifle is perfect for the whole family to share. Festival of the Holidays Beverage Favorites The seasonal beers and wines at Favorites of Festivals Past have some of your favorites inspired by previous Holiday Kitchens all around EPCOT. Availability is subject to change. At time of publication, we spotted these brews: Keel Farms Pecan Pie Hard Cider Southern Tier Brewing Co. Tiramisu Imperial Stout Cigar City Brewing Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Brown Ale Beverage Flight also available Available wines include: Martin Ray Chardonnay Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet Sauvignon What’s Next? This Holiday Kitchen will be returning to every festival, and we can’t wait to see what the culinary team has in store for Opening Bites, coming to EPCOT International Festival of the Arts this January. So, when you make your way over to EPCOT, be sure to save some room for these delicious offerings and check out the entertainment and merchandise nearby in CommuniCore Hall and Plaza. I truly believe there’s nothing quite like New York during the holidays, which is why I recently found myself braving the cold and crowds of Times Square on a brisk morning to take in the seasonal sights. At this time of year, the city feels even more electric than usual, the streets are overflowing with jolly decor, and many people (myself included) make the journey to the Big Apple with one goal in mind – shopping. Maybe you’re browsing the holiday markets, on a mission to check every item off your wish list, or are simply just admiring the stunning window displays, but regardless, there’s no shortage of spots to get your shopping fix. For me, a must-visit merchandise destination, especially during the holiday season, has always been Disney Store in Times Square. Tucked away from the bright lights and bustling streets of Broadway is Disney Store Times Square, a 20,000-square-foot slice of Disney magic containing two floors full of product, themed displays, photo ops, and holiday cheer. I have many memories of visiting during childhood trips to NYC and was a frequent shopper throughout the years I lived in the city. So now, I’m taking you along with me as I explore the store in all its festive glory. I arrived just in time for their magical opening ceremony, where cast members select one lucky shopper to unlock the store, and even take home a small key replica to commemorate the experience. It’s a super sweet sprinkle of pixie dust to start each day! With the store officially open, I set off on my shopping spree. Welcome to Your Winter Wonderland Upon entering the space, you are immediately immersed in a whimsical winter wonderland – who would believe that the chilly air and busy crowds were just steps away outside? The friendly faces of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and many other beloved Disney characters are there to greet you, along with larger-than-life decor and displays at every turn. The store is organized into different sections, such as home goods and toys, and the welcoming cast members are always there to lend a hand, answer any questions, and help you find the perfect souvenir. This is truly the Disney difference – the way our cast members go above and beyond at any Disney destination is something that always warms my heart. Only in The Big Apple The NYC-themed items immediately caught my eye, since select items are available only here in Disney Store Times Square. If you’re a loyal Loungefly mini backpack collector, in need of a new coffee mug or tumbler for your holiday beverage, looking for a cozy sweatshirt to bundle up with, or want a hat to top off your street style – Disney Store Times Square has it all. Classic symbols of NYC can be spotted across all these products, including taxis, soft pretzels, the city skyline, and of course, the Statue of Liberty. Speaking of the Statue of Liberty, the store cast members shared that the Minnie Mouse Lady Liberty Plush is one of their most popular items, and I can certainly see why! The combination of these two icons makes for a picture-perfect plush – it will be an amazing addition to my apartment decor since much of it is an ode to New York. I also got an up-close look at some other best-selling items, including the NYC-themed pins. For our passionate pin traders and collectors out there, you must make your way to Times Square and see these for yourself! Your Holiday Shopping Hub We’ve come to the right place for holiday apparel, accessories, and decor. The store has so many products to choose from, including sweaters and cardigans, pajama sets, hats and ear headbands, home decor, and toys – all with merry and bright patterns, colors, and accents. Maybe you want to deck the halls of your house with Disney delights, coordinate matching outfits for the family, or just add a little holiday sparkle and spirit to your life – all these things and more can be checked off your list here. There’s holiday decor to discover in every corner of the store, too. Glittering Mickey Mouse-shaped wreaths are sprinkled throughout the shelves, glistening ornaments hang from the ceiling, and other glimmering goodies like gift-wrapped presents, Santa’s sled, and bows are all around. You may even spot cutouts or snapshots of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and their friends dressed in their festive best. I couldn’t resist grabbing one of these Disney Store Mickey Mouse Reindeer Holiday Plush, available only on DisneyStore.com and at Disney Store locations – look at how cute and cuddly they are! With a soft reindeer suit, sparkly red bowtie, and “Disney Store 2025” embroidered on his foot, this is an adorable seasonal keepsake that has already found its place on my desk in California. This item and lots of other perfect plush are featured in our 2025 gift guide right here on the Disney Parks Blog. Float on Upstairs for More Magic A whole other world of wonder awaits when you venture up to the second floor, and the glowing lanterns from Tangled guide you on your journey up the escalator. It’s not just a simple staircase to help you get from point A to point B, it feels magical and transportive in a way that Disney does best. My shopping journey continued upstairs, where I was immediately greeted by a wall of even more plush – the possibilities are endless! Pick from different sizes (likely based on how much room you have left in your luggage) – whether you want a teeny tiny Urupocha-Chan from Disney Store Japan, or a large stuffed friend to snuggle up with. This space was filled with even more holiday details, NYC iconography, and products I’ve spotted at Disney Parks that have made their way to the concrete jungle. The Fantasia collection is one I was especially excited about – Sorcerer Mickey is my favorite! The centerpiece of the store is without a doubt the magnificent castle and Disney Princess displays. This was so satisfying for my inner child, seeing the sparkling Princess gowns, majestic castle, and more toys than I could even count. It’s not just the castle façade, you can step inside its walls to shop for a stunning selection of Disney Princess products – no wishing upon a star needed. The Tangled 15th anniversary collection seemed to be a fan-favorite, with items like a Loungefly bag, spirit jersey, ear headband, and a limited-edition Rapunzel doll to take home. I saw many shoppers make a beeline right for this display once the doors opened, and that doll was flying off the shelves! There were plenty of other Disney Princess playsets, LEGOs, and dolls up here as well – if you’ve got a little one in your life that loves these characters, we may have just found your one-stop-shop to help you tackle their regal wish list. Add Disney Store Times Square to Your List Disney Store Times Square perfectly brings the joy of Disney straight to the heart of New York City, especially during the holidays. Whether it’s the select merchandise that you can’t find anywhere else, the craving for a distinctly Disney experience, or that unmatched Manhattan energy drawing you here, every visit feels special. It is the dream destination for fans to uniquely shop, be immersed in the magic, and make lasting memories – just like I did. A Flash Back to August 1955 – Disneyland and Beyond There are so many phenomenal places in the world to potentially travel on a honeymoon, but the couple had a key reason why they chose to visit sunny Southern California back in the summer of ‘55. Officially married on August 21, 1955, just over one month after Disneyland opened its gates to the world, and Cynthia Borrud set off on their honeymoon on a road trip from Mabel, Minnesota, to California in a 1950 Studebaker, towing a homemade tent camper trailer for their adventure across the nation. Fresh off their wedding and full of enthusiasm, they headed to Los Angeles so Cynthia could meet ’s family for the very first time, marking some of their first steps as lovely newlyweds ready to take on the world together. On their long, winding way to The Golden State, they journeyed through mountains, hills, and national parks, making stops at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, Estes Park and Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado, and finally Las Vegas in Nevada, before driving all night through the desert on the road to L.A. on August 26. After a few days of local fun with family, their honeymoon culminated with a perfect cherry on top with a stop at The Happiest Place on Earth. Arriving early in the morning that day, and Cynthia noticed just how big the parking lot in front of the park seemed. Before even entering the park, they could feel this brand-new destination was humming with magic, exuberance, and an overall sense of happiness. Once they stepped through the gates, and Cynthia recalled that all the guests in the park were dressed up for the occasion: men wearing slacks and women adorned in dresses and heels, with a sense of joyous bustle in the air. On their very first visit, the lovely dynamic duo boarded King Arthur Carrousel, Mark Twain Riverboat, Jungle Cruise, and the Disneyland Railroad. It was a pleasant day with warm weather and plenty of excitement among thousands of happy smiles. Accompanied by ’s grandmother, stepmom, and two younger brothers, the pair stayed late into the afternoon, even enjoying a nice lunch in the picnic area outside the park during the day — check out two photos from their very first visit above! This milestone moment made such a lasting impression that they ended up making it a tradition to return to Disneyland at least once a year when visiting family members in Southern California. Since that magical trip in August 1955, the couple has visited the resort every year (outside of 2020), eventually bringing their four children and two grandchildren along for the ride over the years. Travel Back in Time Through the Years with and Cynthia at Disneyland Since 1955, and Cynthia have been able to experience the Disneyland of past and present, documenting so many of these trips with their fair share of pictures and special memories. Have a favorite attraction from the past, a former beloved restaurant that you remember dining at, or a now-retired snack that is always in the back of your mind? There’s a good chance that this delightful duo knows what you’re referring to. Over the years, and Cynthia even became somewhat of familiar Disneyland “experts” within the park, learning to precisely plan out their day with the ticket books that they received on earlier visits to Disneyland (especially by making sure to plan out their visits to the E-Ticket attractions) and now using the Disneyland app with family members to stop by their favorite rides. While Disneyland has evolved over the past seven decades, it remains a place full of comfort, warmth, and a present sense of nostalgia for all. On this year’s trip, Cynthia mentioned just how beautiful and inviting the park remains 70 years later. As for , he mentioned how happy everyone always is when visiting the parks and enjoys connecting with cast members across the resort, sharing the couple’s happy history along the way. As time passed, new memories were created and added to the family’s cherished photo album. With children and eventually grandchildren entering the picture, new family members joined in on the fun over the years: meeting characters at a young age, boarding classic park attractions as they grew up, and certainly scooping up a fair share of goodies each and every visit no matter the age. Magic and Memories During the 70th Anniversary of Disneyland 92 and 93 years young respectively and now living in Ellensburg, Washington, and Cynthia remain young at heart with a dear connection to Disney. When visiting this year during the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Resort, the duo used this vacation as another opportunity to live in the moment and experience all that the resort has to offer, this time with their daughter, Julie, and their grandchildren, Anna and Lars Enger, at their side. and Cynthia noted that they especially enjoy boarding the Disneyland Railroad, “it’s a small world,” and Jungle Cruise on trips to the resort these days, three classic attractions that they’ve come to love over the years with each successive visit. In addition, they appreciate having a glass of wine at Mendocino Terrace at Disney California Adventure park, before venturing over to Cars Land to witness the neon lights in the area glow up at sunset. They also love ordering coffee and treats from the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe on Main Street, U.S.A., to enjoy on the restaurant’s patio, enjoying some quality time in Disneyland park that takes them back to the days of yesteryear. With 70 years of experience at Disneyland, these two have plenty of favorite choices and tips up their sleeves – read on to check out some of their top picks below! A Few of and Cynthia's Top Picks Over the Years Favorite Treats: Churros and Frozen Bananas Favorite Restaurant: Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante Favorite All-Time Entertainment: The Golden Horseshoe Revue Entertainment So, all these years later, what still makes their yearly trip to Disneyland so special? The couple says that these visits give them time to reflect on all the happy memories made over the years, looking back on that inaugural visit in 1955 and all the incredible family moments made in the decades since. Yet, as time goes by, two constant forces remain the same for this perfect pair – a true, compassionate love for one another and an authentic, everlasting connection to The Happiest Place on Earth, 70 years in the making. It’s the holidays in Disneyland, and we’ve been enjoying everything the holiday season brings to the parks. We’ve also enjoyed seeing the parks all decorated for the holiday season, the snow on Sleeping Beauty Castle, and eating our way through the Festival of Holidays. Write a letter to Santa Car But there’s one holiday activity you might not know about in Disney California Adventure that we wanted to make you aware of. Did you know you can send a letter to Santa in Cars Land? Well, you can! If you visit Sarge’s Surplus Hut in Cars Land, you’ll spot a little display with a red mailbox next to a little Christmas tree where you can write and send letters to Santa Car. Here’s your chance to get that wishlist to the big guy before Christmas! Letters to Santa Car There are even little postcards that you can write your letter on, so Santa Car knows they came straight from Cars Land (maybe that gives your letter some priority, right?). Write your letter on this This is Disney, though, so there’s a whole story: the town’s postal trucks can’t deliver Christmas letters to Santa Car because they ran out of fuel! Oh no! But Mater is taking it upon himself to get everyone’s letter to Santa Car, so he’s set up this little spot so he can collect everyone’s letters, and he plans to take them to the North Pole with Lightning McQueen to Santa Car in person. The story So when you’ve finished writing your letter, put it in the mailbox so Mater can collect it to take it to Santa Car. Put in the mailbox This is a super cute fun activity for kids, but we think adults should totally write letters, too. So be sure to stop by Sarge’s Surplus Hut to get that letter to Santa Car. Disney Springs has a way of making you feel like you need everything, and I’ve spent way too many dollars proving it. Disney Springs Disney Springs is one of the most dangerous places (for your wallet). It’s packed with delicious food, sparkling merch, and limited-edition goodies practically begging you to impulse buy them. Between the smells drifting from every direction, the massive stores filled with “must-have” souvenirs, and the snacks that photograph a little too well — believe us, we know, it can feel impossible to walk out without something you didn’t plan on buying. And while some of those surprises end up being winners, others… well, let’s just say we’ve learned the hard way what’s worth the splurge and what we definitely regret tossing into our bags. Let’s talk about the things we wish we’d skipped, so you don’t make the same mistakes on your next Disney Springs visit! The Giant Popcorn Buckets Disney popcorn buckets are iconic and make for a fun souvenir, but if you aren’t a huge popcorn fan, they can quickly turn into a burden. Those oversized character-themed buckets are heavier than you expect, and suddenly, you’re carrying around a bulky snack while trying to enjoy the parks or Disney Springs. It might seem worth it in the moment, but by the time you’re leaving, you’ll be juggling it with shopping bags, strollers, or backpacks. Mummy Mickey Popcorn Bucket at Disney Springs On top of that, getting it home safely can be a challenge. You might think, “I’ll just pop it in the car!” but inevitably, a lid pops off, or the popcorn goes stale by the next day. If you want the fun of the bucket without the hassle, consider smaller souvenir options or simply enjoying a single serving of popcorn in the park. Disney Springs popcorn Too Many Sweets Gideon’s Bakehouse is a treat lover’s dream, and it’s easy to get carried away. Every time I step in, my eyes are bigger than my stomach, and I leave with a bag full of cookies and giant slices of cake… most of which I don’t even finish by the end of the trip. It’s tempting to try everything, but the reality is you’ll enjoy them more if you pick a few standout items. Gideon’s Bakehouse Here’s a quick guide to help you narrow it down: our top picks are the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie or Peanut Butter Cookie. But, the highlight here is going for Hot Cookie Hour, which is between 2-3 and 7-8 each day of the week. This is when you can get a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of a warm cookie — it’s basically our favorite time of the day! Hot Cookie Hour! Wetzel’s Pretzels Wetzel’s Pretzels might smell irresistible as you walk by, but when it comes to value and flavor, there are better snack options at Disney Springs. While a pretzel is always a fun comfort snack, Wetzel’s can be found at most of your local malls — it might be good, but nothing you can’t get closer to home. Wetzel’s Pretzels If you’re looking for something that feels more Disney and unique, try a Dole Whip Flight at Swirls on the Water or The Daily Poutine for something savory. These options give you that Disney Springs vibe without feeling like an overpriced mall treat, and they often have flavors or quality you won’t find anywhere else. Dole Whip Flight at Swirls on the Water Overpriced Specialty Drinks Those sparkling drinks, enormous slushies, and color-changing beverages look incredible on Instagram, but many end up being way too sweet or artificially flavored. You might be tempted to splurge for the photo-op, only to realize halfway through that plain water or lemonade would’ve been just as satisfying, and a lot less expensive. Coca Cola Rooftop That said, there are a few specialty drinks that are worth the hype. Grab a drink at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar. These are not only delicious, but it’s extra fun if you visit around the holiday season for their specialty menu. Focusing on the truly exceptional drinks ensures you get a treat without wasting money on something overly sweet. Holiday Drinks at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Clothing You’ll Never Actually Wear Disney-themed clothing is incredibly tempting, especially when it’s styled on a mannequin with perfect Minnie ears or a sparkling jacket. But let’s be honest, most of us don’t have many occasions to wear those shirts, dresses, or sequin-covered hoodies back home. What looks adorable in the store often ends up folded in a drawer, never seeing the light of day again. World of Disney To avoid this, stick to practical souvenirs or clothing you’ll realistically wear. Simple graphic tees, comfy hoodies, or even themed socks make great mementos without becoming closet clutter. If you really want something unique, consider items like Disney-themed pins, jewelry, or a hat. They can capture the Disney vibe without creating regret later. World of Disney Disney World can be pricey, so it’s great to think about what is actually worth your money! For more tips for your day at Disney Springs, follow us at DFB! Hey, we’re no strangers to lines. If we added up how long each team member of DFB waited in line this year at Disney World, we would all be appalled by the number. That being said, while wandering EPCOT today, we saw something totally bonkers. Crowds for Candlelight Processional for EPCOT Festival of the Holidays I can personally say that I have never seen a line for this EPCOT spot as long as it was. No, we’re not talking about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on September 21st, or Frozen Ever After, literally any day, we’re talking about a line that, if you see how long it is, you need to LEAVE. Have you been to the Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe? You might not know it by its official name, but it’s the bakery in Norway that has popular snacks like School Bread, which we’ve raved about for years. Well, we guess everyone needed a snack today because the line was out the door. Uh hello? Like, way out the door. People, people, people There were SWITCHBACKS! For the bakery. In EPCOT. Hey, we like the snacks and coffee, too, but if the line is this long, we promise you can find another snack that you’ll like in EPCOT. EPCOT is literally a mecca of food, and if the line is this long, go ahead and go to the next stop (or even country). Pretty please, do not wait in this line. Don’t get us wrong, we love School Bread for the thick, creamy vanilla cream, and the shredded coconut on the outside, but there are tons of other snacks we love, too. School Bread Right now, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays is happening until December 30th, which means there’s even MORE food than normal EPCOT. There are food booths in almost every country, and some at the front of the park with holiday-themed treats and snacks. 2025 Shi Wasu Holiday Kitchen Spread YOU CAN CHECK OUT OUR FULL REVIEW OF FESTIVAL OF THE HOLIDAYS HERE! Beyond festival booths, which you should totally check out if you’re visiting during a festival, which is almost all the time, there are also lots of restaurants in the different country pavilions and closer to the front of the park. Some of my personal favorites that I won’t shut up about include the Pretzel Nuggets with Beer Cheese at Block & Hans in the American Adventure Pavilion… Pretzel bites …the Pretzel Bread Pudding from Sommerfest in the Germany Pavilion (okay, maybe I just really like pretzels)… Look at this bite! …and literally anything Karamell-Küche because I love caramel and could eat it by the spoonful. This place smells SO good when you walk by it Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog so you know which lines are worth it on your next Disney World trip! Two viral water bottles. One brutally hot theme park. Only one will make it to fireworks. ©Disney If you’ve ever spent a full day in Disney World’s sun, you already know hydration isn’t optional — it’s a survival strategy. With the Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 2.0 and the Owala FreeSip dominating social feeds and stroller cupholders alike, we put both to the ultimate test: Which one actually stays cold, leak-free, and easy to use from rope drop to the last parade? Let the showdown begin. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Your water bottle at Disney World is basically a survival tool — and in the Florida sun, not all bottles are created equally. For this showdown, we’re looking at two of the most hyped options out there: the Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 2.0 and the Owala FreeSip. Both are insulated, both are viral, and both promise cold water all day long. But which one actually wins in the parks? Owala Water Bottle On a normal day at home, you might care about color and vibes. At Disney World, the priorities change fast, like staying cold in brutal heat, not leaking in your park bag or stroller, easy to drink from while walking or standing in line, a hygienic mouthpiece (because…everything is sticky), and even weight and bulk when you’re already hauling kids, snacks, and ponchos. With that in mind, we’re going to get into how Stanley and Owala stack up comparably, but first, you’ve got to meet each of the contenders! Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 2.0 The Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 2.0 is basically built for cold-drink people. It’s a double-walled, vacuum-insulated stainless-steel tumbler that keeps drinks cold for up to 12 hours and ice frozen for up to two days, depending on size. In other words: if you fill this with ice and water in the morning, it’s still going to be frosty long after the 3 p.m. parade. Stanley IceFlow The newer 2.0 versions use AeroLight spun-steel insulation, which makes them up to 33% lighter than standard stainless bottles, and they come with a big, sturdy handle that makes them easy to grab from a stroller basket or carry in your hand. The Flip Straw 2.0 lid has a built-in straw and a wider opening so you can sip quickly; when you snap it shut, it’s designed to be leak-resistant. View on Amazon In the parks, that translates to stats like excellent ice retention — great for all-day heat, fast sipping through the straw while walking or waiting in line, and a comfy handle that makes it feel less awkward to carry. The lid and sipper The tradeoffs? The 30 oz and 36 oz sizes are BIG. They fit in most stroller and car cupholders, but in a crossbody bag or small backpack, they can feel bulky and a bit heavy once they’re full. And while the lid is “leak-resistant,” it’s not totally foolproof if the straw isn’t fully closed or if it gets tossed around. If your top priority is ice-cold water all day and a big capacity, this Stanley is a strong contender. View on Amazon Owala FreeSip The Owala FreeSip is a Disney-fan favorite for a reason. It’s a stainless steel, triple-insulated bottle with a leak-proof lid, and the star of the show is its patented FreeSip spout: you can sip upright through the built-in straw or tilt it back and chug through the wide-mouth opening. We love our Owala water bottle! The lid pops open with a button and covers the entire mouthpiece when closed, which is a big deal in the parks (no exposed straw while you’re sitting in line for Pirates of the Caribbean). In fact, we’ve been known to call out its covered mouthpiece feature as a game-changer for theme park use. View on Amazon In the real world of spending an entire day (or full vacation) at Disney, that means you can sip while walking or chug after a long ride without switching bottles, your mouthpiece isn’t touching every germy surface known to man, and you can stow it inside your bag instead of always needing a cupholder. The inside! The downside? If you’re used to 30–40 oz Stanleys, the 24 oz Owala might feel a bit small. You’ll be refilling more often at water fountains or quick-service spots. On the flip side, refills are pretty easy in the parks, and a lighter bottle can feel like a blessing by hour eight. View on Amazon So, Which Survives The Disney Heat Better? When it comes to cold retention, both bottles are vacuum-insulated and keep water cold for hours, even in the Florida heat. Stanley advertises up to 12 hours cold and two days of ice in the IceFlow 2.0 line, while Owala’s triple insulation keeps drinks chilled all day as well. In a typical Disney day (rope drop to fireworks), you’re not going to lose your ice with either one if you start with plenty. Plainly put, they’re tied on this point, thus far. ©Disney So let’s talk portability and bulkiness. Stanley’s handle is fantastic, but the overall footprint is wider and heavier once full. It’s happiest in a stroller cupholder or being carried by hand. You might find that Owala is more bag-friendly. The slimmer sizes fit more easily into backpack side pockets, and the carry loop makes it easy to hook onto a strap. This gives the Owala another point in its favor. The locking lid Thinking through each bottle’s mouthpiece and hygiene, Stanley’s flip straw pops up from the lid, and when it’s folded down, it’s somewhat exposed. Great for fast sipping, less great when you think about park surfaces and sticky fingers. Whereas, with Owala, it’s completely covered and you push a button to open it, drink, then snap it cleanly shut again. If you’re worried about germs and gross things on your mouthpiece, Owala may be more favorable on this point. Top close lid and mouthpiece Leak protection is key when you want to stay on the go. The Stanley IceFlow 2.0 is leak-resistant, not fully leak-proof, especially if the straw is open or it gets tossed around. This means the Owala is safer for backpacks and quick tosses into park bags due to its leak-proof, push-button lid with locking carry loop, which helps keep accidental pops to a minimum. Carrying Handle So… Which Should You Bring to Disney World? If you’re looking for the short answer, bringing a Stanley IceFlow Flip Straw 2.0 is ideal for those who want maximum ice retention and a huge amount of water, will mostly keep it in a stroller or cupholder, and who love the big-handle “tumbler” style and don’t mind some bulk. Stanley IceFlow However, the Owala FreeSip is key if you care a lot about hygiene and a covered mouthpiece, your bottle needs to live in a backpack or sling bag, and you want a leak-proof, slimmer bottle that’s easy to carry and drink from on the go. Rapunzel Owala Both bottles absolutely can survive the Disney heat — but if I had to crown one as the better overall Disney World park bottle, it’s the Owala FreeSip. The covered spout, slim profile, and leak-proof lid just make more sense in a theme park environment, especially with kids, bags, and sticky everything. That said, if you’re a heavy water drinker, towing a stroller, or obsessed with keeping a ton of ice all day, your Stanley IceFlow 2.0 will still serve you really, really well. We think we found the cutest version of Mickey Mouse, and we have photo evidence. Mickey! We recently visited Disneyland Paris, and while doing many things felt familiar with some of our favorite attractions and snacks, there was a magical twist that made Disneyland Paris so special. We found the main mouse himself over in Paris, but this is an outfit we’ve never seen before. Disneyland Paris’s version of the Haunted Mansion is the Phantom Manor, which is located in Frontierland. Because of that, there’s a Western twist where there’s a part where you roll through an old town with saloons and plenty of ghosts. Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris ©Disney There’s a fairly similar storyline in this version of the Haunted Mansion: a doomed wedding and a menacing evil spirit. There’s an evil bride, too. ©Disney But the best part? Probably, we’ll get to meet Mickey Mouse in a Phantom Manor outfit. Seriously, look at him! SO CUTE The hat, the best, THE PANTS. It’s all too good. This meet and greet is right by the Phantom Manor, so you can ride the attraction and then go say hi to Mickey Mouse in Paris. PLEASE LET ME HUG HIM When visiting international Disney Parks, we recommend prioritizing attractions that are unique to that park that you can’t find in the States, and then take on the attractions that are similar with a twist. For example, we had a great time on “it’s a small world” which is pretty similar but has a whole section to America which we had never seen before. It’s super interesting to see how they represented it. That’s a lot going on We’re missing Mickey, so while we’re staring at our photos, make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more! Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a lot going on, that’s for sure, and that’s not going to be changing any time soon! Vacation Fun Two entire new lands are under construction (Muppets Courtyard is becoming Monsters, Inc. Land, and Animation Courtyard is transforming into The Walt Disney Studios), Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closing on March 2nd, 2026 to become a Muppets version of the ride, not to mention the smaller projects going on around the park as well. However, one of those small refurbishments is coming to a close, it seems, because we now have a reopening date for Vacation Fun! Vacation Fun closed on October 20th for a refurbishment, though Disney hasn’t really told us what has changed inside during this time. It’s possible something could have been updated, either in the theater itself, or with the screen/film, but regardless, it’s now showing times again starting December 27th! ©Disney The full name of this attraction is Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie, and it’s exactly what it sounds like — it’s a short film that celebrates Mickey and Minnie’s favorite vacation memories! You’ll see completely new animation mixed with clips from favorites like Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg, and Outback at Ya!. Vacation Fun Not to mention that everything in the theater is also themed to Mickey and Minnie! The seats, the floor, the gold and red screen and decor — we absolutely love it! Vacation Fun seating The fun doesn’t end after the film is over, though, because as you exit, you’ll see life-sized recreations of the various spots seen in the film (such as Potato Land!), and can take photos with them. You can also step into this room without seeing the film, so if you just need an air-conditioned spot to sit down, or you just would like to take photos with the decor, you can. Who’s ready for a TON of Disneyland Paris news? And when we say “a ton,” we really mean it — there’s so much to cover! How we feel about all these announcements! We’ve known for months now that Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park, soon to be Disney Adventure World, would be undergoing a series of refurbishments, changes, and additions, but as we get closer to them, we’re getting to hear more and more details on what to expect. Strap in, friends, because there are lots of updates to cover! It was previously announced that World of Frozen and Adventure Way are set to open on March 29th, 2026, but many other projects are underway that we have new details for. Frontierland By the end of Summer 2026, you’ll be able to see more magic at the Rivers of the Far West attraction in Frontierland! Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing will have new scenes that are inspired by the original drawings of Imagineer and Disney Legend Marc Davis. ©Disney The new figures in the scenes, a buffalo on a prairie and raccoons and a skunk on a floating log, were created by the Disneyland Paris Imagineering team. You’ll be able to see the new scenes as you sail on the Molly Brown boat, which has recently been entirely renovated. ©Disney But what’s happening in Walt Disney Studios Park (soon to be Disney Adventure World)? As it turns out, a LOT! Tower of Terror In Spring 2026, a new covered outdoor waiting area will be available as part of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror queue! The new area really enhances the story of the hotel, as it represents the remnants of the Patio, which was once a relaxing courtyard with an outdoor pool, enjoyed by the business elite, but now it’s fallen into disrepair. ©Disney The details also match the Pueblo Deco architecture of the rest of the premises, and the props and elements of decor in the queue will give guests more clues as to what happened at The Hollywood Tower Hotel, so you’ll want to pay very close attention! ©Disney Right next to the attraction, a new merchandise location will be opening that is inspired by 1930s flower shops in early 2026! The existing structure has been entirely redesigned and rethemed so it will blend in seamlessly with World Premiere Plaza and its Art Deco-inspired theatre district area. ©Disney Be sure to look closely at all the period-specific details, like the flower bouquets, pictures celebrating historical milestones, and a fridge similar to those used by Californian florists in the 1930s! Minnie’s Dream Factory Also in Walt Disney Studios Park, Minnie’s Dream Factory is back after being closed for a short time. It’ll reopen on February 7th, 2026 with an all-new story that celebrates teamwork and creativity. ©Disney Minnie Mouse will take center stage as the factory’s caring director, and is joined by Chip ‘n Dale as the comedic duo they are, Donald Duck managing the technical needs, and Daisy Duck there to keep it all running. The reimagined theatre has a new appearance, including playful nods to Minnie and a vibrant new lighting atmosphere, as well as gorgeous new costumes and other surprises. An All-New Nighttime Show “Disney Cascade of Lights,” a new nighttime spectacular, will come to Disney Adventure World on March 29th, 2026, and it’ll be unlike anything else Disney guests have ever seen! The new show will feature aquatic drones gliding across Adventure Bay, will have a 360° design that will ensure incredible views from every angle, and the heart of the show will be an emotional score recorded at Abbey Road Studios by a 90-piece orchestra, featuring the original anthem “We Can Be Heroes.” ©Disney It certainly sounds incredible, and we can’t wait to see how these enhanced drones look! Disney Village Another announcement was made that will affect Disney Village, the shopping and dining district nearby to the parks. Annette’s Diner will close on January 5th, 2026, for multiple months to undergo a refurbishment that will include enlarging the kitchens and completely refurbishing the dining room, including floors and furniture. Don’t worry, though, the same charm and retro atmosphere that’s been around since 1992 will be preserved! ©Disney The bar will sport a new design to match the distinctive chrome look of classic diners, and the booths will be reminiscent of 1950s car seats in colors like pink, blue, and vanilla yellow. We can’t wait to see what it looks like when it reopens!
