  1. Every week, we report the average Disney World wait times in every park so that you can be prepared for your next trip to Orlando! Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime parade 2025 Disney World wait times have a reputation for being, well, unpredictable. Sure, we can look at past data to get an estimate of the crowd levels in Disney World, but you never know what may happen from year to year. This year, Christmas featured a JUMP in wait times, with nearly every ride on property increasing. Take a look at this week’s average wait times for proof! This is everything you need to know about the average wait times in Disney World over the past seven days. There are very few waits over an hour, which is incredible. As December turns into January, is this one of the best times to visit the parks? It just might be — but we’ll let you decide! Magic Kingdom Wait Times Doesn’t it look so cool? 2. There is a lot going on in Disney’s Hollywood Studios right now. Muppets Courtyard closed to make way for a brand new Monsters, Inc. land. Animation Courtyard is being reimaged as Walt Disney Studios. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is kicking Aerosmith out so the Muppets can move in. Mickey Shorts Theater In October 2025, Vacation Fun at the Mickey Shorts Theater closed for a refurbishment. Now, two months later, that attraction has reopened with one big change…something has returned to the experience. Vacation Fun is an original animated short film that takes place in the Mickey Shorts Theater. It celebrates some of Mickey and Minnie’s favorite vacation memories and features new animation mixed with clips from other shorts like Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg, and Outback at Ya! Vacation Fun is back! The theater reopened today, and we decided to step inside. This is also a great spot to grab some a/c relief and rest your feet while visiting Hollywood Studios. Let’s go inside The first thing we noticed when we stepped into the theater was that the Potatoland photo op is back. It’s been missing for a hot minute, and the last time we saw it, the space was being used for merchandise during Jollywood Nights. But it’s BACK, baby! Potatoland is a fake theme park Mickey and Minnie built for Goofy because he said he wanted to go there…but it didn’t exist. We wished we had the kind of friends that would build us a theme park! Potatoland! You’ll find other photo ops throughout the theater’s entrance, too, based on animated Mickey Mouse shorts. Yodelberg Then it was time to head on into the theater and watch Vacation Fun! The short runs about 11 minutes, in case you were curious. It’s back! Be sure to check out Vacation Fun the next time you visit Hollywood Studios. It really is…well…fun! We’ll keep an eye out for more closures and reopenings in Disney World, so be sure to follow us to stay up to date. 4 Game-Changing Updates Announced for Hollywood Studios in 2026 Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 3. It is hard to believe it is almost 2026! It is a busy time at Disney World, and we are here to make sure you make the most of your vacation! You may be looking forward to escaping the cold and spending some time at your Disney World hotel’s pool. Cooler weather (highs in the 60s) is coming to Disney World next week, but a trip to the pool may still be on your must-dos. However, we have a heads up! Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort A popular Disney World hotel will be closing for maintenance, and we don’t want you to be caught by surprise. We are also rounding up everything that is closed in Disney World this week, so you can be prepared! From January 2026 through April 2026, the Surfboard Bay Pool and Kiddie Pool at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort will be closed for maintenance. Don’t worry, though, if you are in the swimming mood, you will still have plenty of options for pools. You may just need to travel a bit farther. All-Star Sports Pool At Disney’s All-Star Sports, the Grand Slam Leisure Pool will still be open. As well, you can also use any of the pools at the other All-Star Resorts. You can use the Calypso Pool and Piano Pool and kiddie pool at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort or the Fantasia Pool and Duck Pond Pool and kiddie pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. Let’s take a look at the other attractions and locations that will be closed this week, from December 27th through January 3rd, at Disney World. Magic Kingdom Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin A popular Tomorrowland attraction is closed! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed for refurbishment since August 4th, 2025, and isn’t expected to reopen until spring 2026. While the ride is closed, it will be getting some upgrades! It’s closed! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will be getting a new ride scene, new ride vehicles, a new character, and enhanced gameplay elements. Some of those gameplay elements include handheld blasters (soon you can shoot whenever you want!) and reactive targets. We got the chance to take a look at the new ride vehicle and test out the new blasters, and we have to say we were impressed! Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island An iconic part of the Magic Kingdom is now permanently closed. As of July 7th, the Rivers of America, including the Liberty Square River Boat and Tom Sawyer Island, are permanently closed to make way for the new Cars area, Piston Peak National Park. There are lots of construction walls up in the area now, and the structures on Tom Sawyer Island have been demolished. The river has also been drained! Construction progress Piston Peak National Park will be replacing this area of Magic Kingdom. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for the new Cars area, but we do know it will feature two brand-new attractions and be themed to look like a National Park. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad On January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in spring 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Disney announced some of the new magic! Riders will see “spectacular natural caverns full of phosphorescent pools, shimmering and illuminating iridescent stalagmites (the ones on the floor) and stalactites (the ones on the ceiling)” — the Rainbow Caverns! We can’t wait to see what other changes might be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! We have spotted some ride testing happening, which was very exciting. REVIEW: This Magic Kingdom Restaurant ISN’T Terrible Anymore, and We Have Proof Disney’s Animal Kingdom Harambe Market — Disney’s Animal Kingdom Harambe Market, a quick-service dining location in Animal Kingdom, has temporarily closed as of October 20th, 2025. It will be closed for a few months, and it is currently expected to reopen in early 2026. While we are sad to see the dining options decrease in Animal Kingdom, there are still lots of delicious options! Harambe Market You can stop by Flame Tree Barbecue or Satu’li Canteen for a tasty, quick-service meal. We aren’t expecting huge changes at Harambe Market during the refurbishment, but we will keep you updated as we learn more! TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, Fossil Fun Games, The Boneyard, Dino Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The Boneyard has permanently closed as of September 2nd. Dino Bite Snacks and Trilo-Bites are also permanently closed as of October 20th, 2025. Pueblo Esperanza Construction It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus are still open, but Disney has announced the rest of DinoLand, U.S.A. will be closing for good on February 2nd, 2026. These Animal Kingdom Changes Are Starting To Worry Us Disney’s Hollywood Studios Animation Courtyard Animation Courtyard closed on September 25th, 2025, to make way for Walt Disney Studios. This new area is expected to open in summer 2026 and will be a special nod to the Walt Disney Studios lot. Star Wars Launch Bay will be turned into The Magic of Disney Animation. This attraction will have you interacting and exploring with this fun take on Disney Animation headquarters. Construction walls around Animation Courtyard This area will also feature a new Drawn to Wonderland indoor play area and the current Disney Jr. Play and Dance! show will be getting a makeover. During the transformation, you will still be able to visit “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” and Walt Disney Presents. Muppets Courtyard, including Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano Muppet*Vision 3D AND PizzeRizzo closed on June 8th, and Muppets Courtyard has been walled off so construction can begin on the new Monsters, Inc. land. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano has been closed since May 11th. Recently, the Muppet*Vision 3D sign was officially taken down! Farewell Muppet*Vision Sign Don’t worry, the Muppets won’t be missing from Disney’s Hollywood Studios forever. The Muppets will eventually be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026. We Stayed In Hollywood Studios ALL NIGHT — Legally! We’re Spilling the Details Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach has been closed since September 8th, 2025! While it has been wonderful having BOTH Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon open at the same time this summer (which was the first time this has happened in YEARS), that has now come to an end. Blizzard Beach is now closed for refurbishment. Blizzard Beach Have no fear, though, if you are looking for somewhere to cool off and enjoy some fun in the water, Typhoon Lagoon will still be open! Keep an eye on the weather, as Typhoon Lagoon will close when temperatures drop. Beginning February 15th, 2026, Blizzard Beach will be reopening, and Typhoon Lagoon will close for refurbishment. REVIEWS: What to Eat (And What to AVOID) at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park Disney World Hotels Promenade Fine Art Gallery — Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Resort The Promenade Fine Art Gallery will be closing its Disney’s BoardWalk location on October 20th, 2025. However, the Promenade Fine Art Gallery isn’t closing for good, and it will just be moving to a new location. Promenade Fine Art Gallery The gallery hasn’t announced yet where that new location will be, but we will keep you updated as we learn more! Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. Jellyrolls However, this isn’t the end for Jellyrolls, as the bar has said they are “making a move.” We don’t know many details about that move yet, but we will keep you updated. 4. Magic Kingdom has TONS of construction going on, between Villains Land and Piston Peak underway, not to mention Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin reopening in 2026 after their lengthy refurbishments. The Astounding Donaldo! That’s far from all, though, because we’ve just gotten confirmation that another attraction will be briefly closing for a refurbishment slightly earlier than expected, and it could mess up your vacation plans. Disney has announced on their website that, beginning January 4th, 2026, half of Pete’s Silly Sideshow will not be open to guests to experience. Previously, this closure was planned to start January 5th, but now it’s been moved up. Goofy! Specifically, you won’t be able to experience the Meet Daring Disney Pals as Circus Stars at Pete’s Silly Sideshow, which is Goofy and Donald’s side of the meet and greet. It seems that the girls’ side, with Minnie and Daisy, is unaffected at this time (other than the fact that lines could be longer!). Pete’s Silly Sideshow Currently, the Disney World calendar for attractions goes out to February 25th, 2026, and there are no times showing for this attraction throughout that whole time. This could mean that it will reopen after this date, or there isn’t a reopening date set at all yet. Don’t worry, you can still meet Donald and Goofy during this closure, but they’ll just be located elsewhere in Storybook Circus! 6. It’s no secret that the holiday season is a great time to visit Disney World, if you don’t mind crowds. The parks are decorated for the season, the snacks are THE BEST, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays is happening, and there’s so much to see and do during this time of year. Rideshare sign at EPCOT But as we mentioned, crowds can be an issue this time of the year. Even Disney World transportation can get pretty full during the holidays, which means you may consider using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft during your trip. If you do plan on getting Uber or Lyft in Disney World, though, we’ve got to offer a word of warning. Even if you bring your own vehicle to Disney World, you may not want to drive around the resort because parking can be tricky when things are so busy. This is particularly true in Disney Springs, where it’s recommended that you arrive at least an hour before any reservation you might have there. You’ll also have to keep an eye on the digital signs on Buena Vista Drive, alerting you about which lots still have spaces. Sometimes it gets so busy that Disney Springs has to pause parking and pedestrian entry into the shopping and dining area. Driving in Disney World So you might want to consider a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft, but that, too, comes with a problem. You may find yourself waiting for a while to get a car to go to wherever you’re going, and you may have to wait a while to get picked up later. You’ll find that a lot of people had the same idea, and again, this is especially true in Disney Springs, which is packed this time of year. Disney Springs crowds So if you are using an Uber or Lyft, consider reserving your pick-up times in advance so that a car will be waiting for you when you need it to be. This will make your life a lot easier during the busiest time of the year in Disney World. It might mean you’ll have to plan your trips in advance, but it will save you a lot of waiting in the long run. 3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Paying $65 for an Uber Ride to Disney’s Pop Century Resort Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 9. If you’re paying for Lightning Lane access in Disney World, you want to spend your money wisely! Let’s talk Lightning Lanes It’s common knowledge that some Lightning Lanes are more “worth” your money than others. It makes sense to book and prioritize the rides that have the longest wait times or are the most popular — you know, the ones that sell out completely early in the day. But there are some Lightning Lanes that hardly ever sell out, or if they do, they’re available nearly all day long. Wondering which those are? Throughout 2025, we’ve been tracking the times that each Lightning Lane Multi Pass option “sells out” for the day (meaning, there are no more times available to book). Averaging those times year-to-date, we’ve been able to find which Lightning Lanes are more likely to last all day. So let’s take a look at the data by park! NOTE: This data does not include Lightning Lanes for live entertainment shows, as those are typically only available for part of the day. Magic Kingdom Starting out at Magic Kingdom, the ride that sells out the latest on average is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin…but just barely! Its average “sell out” time is 8:31PM, while Dumbo the Flying Elephant comes in at 8:21PM. Right behind that is Mad Tea Party at 8:21PM and “it’s a small world” at 8:19PM. Mad Tea Party It’s important to note that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is currently closed to get some major updates to the ride vehicles, scoring system, and blasters. When it reopens with these changes, the Lightning Lane will likely be more popular…at least for a while. That means this list could shift slightly in 2026. ©Disney There are a few other rides that have average Lightning Lane book-up times in the 7PM hour. Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid is the latest of those at 7:53PM, followed by Tomorrowland Speedway at 7:51PM, The Barnstormer at 7:44PM, and Pirates of the Caribbean at 7:42PM. There she is! Also in the 7 o’clock hour are Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, and Magic Carpets of Aladdin. 1 Minute and 7 Seconds to Guarantee the Perfect Day in Magic Kingdom EPCOT Since EPCOT most frequently closes at 9PM, the average “sell-out” times for Lightning Lanes are a little bit earlier. All the least popular options fall in the 7PM hour. The last one to book up for the day is Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival, with an average time of 7:48PM. Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival Several other attractions are close to that time, though. Living With the Land’s time is 7:41PM, Journey Into Imagination with Figment is 7:40PM, Spaceship Earth is 7:39PM, and Soarin’ Around the World is 7:38PM. Those are all VERY close! Soarin’ Lightning Lane In fact, only 3 rides in this park tend to book up completely before 5PM. That just goes to show that if you’re not visiting on a holiday or during a typically busy travel time, you can probably get by without using Lightning Lane Multi Pass in EPCOT. I Tried the $66 Lightning Lane Hack That Disney Experts Swear By Hollywood Studios Heading over to Hollywood Studios, Lightning Lane Multi Pass looks to be much more useful than it is at EPCOT. Even though the two parks have similar hours of operation, Hollywood Studios’ Lightning Lanes book up much quicker on average. The ONLY option that typically remains open until the 7 o’clock hour is Star Tours, which has an average “sell-out” time of 7:52PM. Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is the next least popular with a time of 6:59PM, followed by Alien Swirling Saucers at 6:27PM. Besides that, all the other rides tend to book up completely before mid-afternoon. This park is also home to the ride that books up the fastest on average — Slinky Dog Dash, with a time of 8:23AM (that’s often before the park even opens!). The Lightning Lane Rules Are CHANGING in 2026 Animal Kingdom Finally, we’re finishing up at Animal Kingdom, which is more similar to EPCOT in that it’s not exactly a necessity to buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass here. This park closes the earliest of all four (usually 6 or 7PM), so its latest available Lightning Lane on average is Expedition Everest at 4:19PM. Expedition Everest DINOSAUR and Kilimanjaro Safaris are next, with times of 4:02PM and 4:01PM, respectively. We imagine DINOSAUR is going to increase in popularity a bit before its closure at the beginning of February, though. Dinosaur Keep this data in mind when booking your Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections, but also remember that more than anything, you need to book what’s most important to YOUR group! 11. We’ll admit that we spend a lot of time traveling to Disney Parks, but we also encourage you to get out there and see other parts of the world, too, if you’re able. However, if you’re making plans for international travel, you often need to be aware of locations that could be deemed dangerous. ©Disney Recently, the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Petra, aka “Rose City,” which was most famously seen in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Petra (known as “Rose City” because of the pink color of the cliffs it’s carved out of) is in the country of Jordan. A level 2 advisory has been issued for Jordan, which means that if you’re visiting the film location you should exercise increased caution. The advisory was issue due to a risk of terrorism. ©Disney According to the advisory, terrorists may attack without warning at transportation hubs, markets and shopping malls, local government buildings, and tourist locations, including Petra. According to the U.S. Department of State, “Jordan is relatively stable but due to high tensions in the region, the security environment remains complex and can change quickly.” ©Disney Petra, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ancient city that was carved from sandstone over 2,000 years ago and once served as the center of an Arab Kingdom. This, along with the fame it garnered from being featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, makes it a heavily sought-after tourist spot. However, if you do have plans to travel there, be sure to take the U.S. State Department’s advisory seriously. 12. If you’re heading to Disney World for New Year’s Eve, not only do you have special entertainment to look forward to, but Disney also just announced that there are special snacks and dining options coming to the resort to celebrate the new year! Who’s ready for 2026? This isn’t just for the parks either (although lots of them are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so that’s a park you’ll definitely want to check out!), as there are additional offerings in Disney Springs and even one of the hotels — here’s a full list of all the treats you won’t want to miss out on! Disney’s Hollywood Studios Most of these snacks are over in Hollywood Studios, so if you’re a big fan of special snacks and treat offerings, this is 100% the park to visit. Available on New Year’s Eve ONLY (December 31st), you’ll want to head to the Outdoor Bars near Hyperion Theater & in the Courtyard of The Hollywood Tower Hotel to grab the following snacks: Red Velvet Cake Pop dipped in milk chocolate and topped with sprinkles ©Disney Midnight Royale: Orange liqueur, cranberry juice, simple syrup, and Prosecco garnished with cranberries ©Disney Dark Chocolate-Almond Bark: Dark chocolate with almonds and dried cherries topped with sprinkles ©Disney Countdown Cider: Sparkling apple cider with strawberry syrup and SKITTLES POP’d Original Freeze-Dried Candy (non-alcoholic) ©Disney Sparkling Mimosa: White cranberry juice, guava syrup, blue curaçao syrup, lime juice, and sparkling wine with a rosemary sprig ©Disney Truffle Trio: Salted caramel, raspberry, and praline ©Disney That’s certainly not all, though — other treats are also available in other parts of the resort. Magic Kingdom Available from December 22nd to January 3rd, you can snag the Happy “Root Beer” Float from Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies. This is Root beer with vanilla soft-serve, chocolate cookie biscuit “sparkler,” and shimmery sprinkles. ©Disney This is the only special offering in this park, but you can still grab many of the special holiday/Christmas treats available as well! Disney Springs Available from December 26th to January 1st, you’ll also be able to head to Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs to snag the Countdown to Midnight Cake Bar. This is Chocolate chiffon with chocolate mousse and mini chocolate chips! ©Disney We’re really curious about this one, because we’ve often found that black food coloring not only stains your mouth, but also has a strange flavor to it, so we’ll be sure to give it a try and give you our thoughts! Disney Hotels The final offering for New Year’s Eve is located over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You can experience The Magic of New Year’s Eve at California Grill on December 30th and 31st, which will include a 4-course meal and exclusive fireworks viewing, complete with a live band. For reservations, you’ll want to call (407) 824-2284 sooner rather than later, because we have a feeling they’ll sell out fast! ©Disney Be sure to stay tuned to DFB, because we’ll be IN the parks on New Year’s Eve AND New Year’s Day to bring you all the latest news and updates! 13. If you’re planning on going to Disneyland in 2026, you’re going to want to make note of these dates! Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland We know Disneyland will be seeing a lot of temporary ride closures at the beginning of 2026. However, we’re happy to say that Disney has just updated us on when the rides are expected to reopen — and some of them are sooner than you may think! Let’s take a look at the dates to be aware of. Mark Twain Riverboat The Mark Twain Riverboat is closing for a refurb on January 12th. However, the refurb is going to be a short one, as it’s reopening just a few days later on January 16th! Given the short timeline, it seems like the work being done on the attraction is just regular maintenance to keep the ride running smoothly. Mark Twain Riverboat Haunted Mansion We’re saying bye to Halloween Town as Haunted Mansion transitions back to its non-holiday self at the beginning of January. Haunted Mansion Holiday will close on January 11th and then reopen on January 23rd as the regular Haunted Mansion. We see this every single year, so it doesn’t come as a surprise. We’ll just be missing our happy haunts in what will feel like a long 12 days while the ride is down. Haunted Mansion in Disneyland Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind It’s time to make our way over to Disney California Adventure, because Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will be closing on January 5th for its refurbishment. This refurbishment is longer than the other two, as it’s scheduled to reopen on January 23rd. There hasn’t been any notice of ride updates, so it’s most likely just regular maintenance work. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind Incredicoaster Lastly, the Incredicoaster will be closing on January 5th and having the longest refurbishment out of the four attractions. The attraction will reopen on February 6th. So, it’ll be a tad over a month of closure for one of the park’s most popular rides! We’ll be eagerly waiting for the ride during this time, but it’s good that Disney is working on it to make sure it continues to run properly. Incredicoaster The agents at Small World Vacations know how to save money on your Disney Vacation! 16. The holiday travel season usually peaks right before Christmas, and there’s generally a little bit of a slowdown right after, but this year, things are different. Orlando International Airport We previously reported that 122.4 million Americans will be traveling for the holiday season this year, so it’s no secret that airports are going to be crowded. Well, you might think that the days after the official holiday season would be a little slower, but according to CBS News, they are not. Plus, winter weather could make things even more chaotic. In Dallas, American Airlines is expecting its busiest day at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to be on January 2nd with 890 flights on its schedule. However, the weather could make things even more hectic over the next week or so, so there could also be significant travel delays. American Airlines Although you can expect airports to be busy from now through January 2nd, the second busiest day for air travel will be on January 4th, with American Airlines having over 600 flights scheduled for that day. So if you’re flying between now and then, you’ll want to be prepared. First, you’ll want to arrive at the airport early to give yourself plenty of time to check bags, get through security, and get to your gate. Security at MCO You will also want to use TSA PreCheck if you have it, and if you don’t, you might want to consider signing up for $85 per person. At the moment, if you enroll with a family member, that second person can get $15 off the enrollment fee. If your airport has something like MCO Reserve, which is available at Orlando International Airport, you may want to take advantage of that. ©Orlando International Airport You have far less control, though, over the weather. As of Saturday, December 27th, over 300 flights are currently delayed at Orlando International Airport, with over 3,000 delays happening across the U.S. You’ll want to make sure you have a way for your airline to notify you of delays, so be sure to turn on notifications in the airline’s app and sign up for text messages with updates. 17. We’ve got some more big news coming out of Magic Kingdom, because it includes some work being done on an attraction that we didn’t realize had any construction planned. Haunted Mansion Piston Peak is currently under construction, as is Villains Land, not to mention that we’re eagerly awaiting Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin to reopen in 2026 with their refurbishments. Now it looks like there could be some more work being done on another popular attraction in the park, but it’s unclear if it’ll have to close for the changes to be made. Disney just recently filed a new permit for the building located at 1600 Magic Kingdom Dr., which just so happens to be Haunted Mansion! A new permit! According to the full permit filed on December 26th, the permit is to “install set elements,” and the company contracted to do the work is Mecca Productions, Inc., which is a full-service design, fabrication, and installation firm located in Central Florida. They create props and scenery for theme parks and attractions, museums, and corporate events. In fact, they’re so experienced with haunted houses and designs of that nature that it’s made them the country’s leading Halloween fabricator. The full permit The permit will expire a year from the file date, which will make that December 26th, 2026. We’re curious to see when this work may take place. The ride may have to close to install the new set elements, or they may be able to be installed overnight when the park is closed to guests. We’ll be sure to keep our eyes peeled! 18. If you have ever strategically checked in exactly 24 hours before a Southwest flight, this is something you need to know. Southwest at MCO Southwest Airlines is about to make a pretty big change, and it matters if you’re already thinking ahead to trips in 2026, including that Disney World vacation you swear you are just “casually” planning. The airline is officially moving away from its famous open seating policy, and that shift starts January 27th, 2026. We’re not here to panic you, just to make sure this does not catch you off guard later. If you missed the announcement, you’re not alone. Southwest has been rolling out updates left and right, but the end of open seating is the one that is going to affect the most people. Especially the folks who have been loyal to Southwest for years because it felt easy, predictable, and budget-friendly. Flying with Southwest I usually love flying with Southwest. The vibes are familiar, the process feels simple once you know the system, and open seating made the whole experience feel low-pressure. You boarded, grabbed a seat, and moved on. For a lot of travelers trying to get to Disney World without overthinking every detail, that was part of the appeal. Southwest Planes at Orlando International Airport Starting January 27th, 2026, Southwest is switching to assigned seating. That means the days of scanning the cabin for the best open row are coming to an end. This is a big shift for an airline that built its identity around doing things differently, and it’s something you’ll want to factor in when planning future trips. ©Southwest Airlines If you fly often, this probably sounds manageable. Assigned seating is nothing new in the airline world. But for people who fly Southwest specifically because it feels different and flexible, this is definitely an adjustment. Boarding will look more familiar, and the overall experience will feel a bit more like what you are used to on other airlines. Premium Seating on ©Southwest Airlines Southwest has also mentioned that planes will eventually include more Extra Legroom seats. That could be a nice option if you value the space, but it will come at an additional cost. Again, not shocking, just something to be aware of when comparing prices and planning your budget. A Southwest airplane’s interior. Now, as a quick reminder, there have been a few other updates recently, too. Southwest ended its bags fly free policy earlier this year, and there have been some tweaks to how Rapid Rewards points are earned depending on which fare you book. Business Select earns more, while Wanna Get Away options earn a little less. These aren’t deal breakers for everyone, but they do mean you’ll want to double-check the details instead of assuming everything works the way it used to. Airport The biggest takeaway here isn’t that Southwest is suddenly a bad airline. It’s just different. And different is totally fine as long as you know what you are walking into. The real stress comes when people show up at the airport expecting the old system and realize things have changed. Southwest Airplanes If you’re planning a Disney World trip in 2026 and Southwest is on your list, just keep this in the back of your mind. Assigned seating will be the norm, pricing may look a little different, and planning ahead will matter a bit more than it used to. Traveling soon? Think of this as that friendly heads-up from someone who wants your travel day to go smoothly. A little extra awareness now can save you a lot of confusion later. 19. Starbucks fans, we’re warning you now that you may want to throw your wallet FAR away from you before you see this! An adorable new duo is available now! We got word that there was a new Starbucks collection in the parks, and while it took some hunting, we finally found it in EPCOT, and boy, was it worth it! Over at Creations Shop, there’s a new Starbucks tumbler and cup duo, and we’ve got a feeling it’ll sell out QUICK! When you head into Creations Shop, you’ll want to head straight to the area that close to the entrance you’ll take if you’ve come from Test Track, or nearby the area — it’s where all the mugs and cups are! This is where we found not only the new Blue Ribbon Castle Tumbler for $49.99, but also its matching mug! Blue Ribbon Castle Tumbler The tumbler is white all over, except for the blue handle and lid. On the main part of the tumbler, the body, if you will, you’ll find blue ribbons all over, with Cinderella Castle and the Walt Disney World logo in the middle. You’ll also find the Starbucks logo vertically closer to the handle. It’s SUPER cute, and it’s no wonder it’s been hard to find! Starbucks logo If that wasn’t cute enough, there’s also a matching Blue Ribbon Castle Mug for $29.99. Blue Ribbon Castle Mug The mug itself has the same design — white with blue ribbons and a blue Cinderella Castle and Walt Disney World logo in the middle, but there’s something extra special we really love about this version. On top of the handle, you’ll find a white bow, and the handle itself looks like it’s the ribbons from the bow, which is super creative. If you’re someone who isn’t a fan of the texture, though, it’s something you’ll want to try out ahead of time. The bow! Finally, you’ll find the white Starbucks logo inside the mug itself. The logo inside the mug Again, we can’t stress this enough — we have a feeling these will sell WILDLY fast, so be sure to grab them ASAP if you come across them and you know you’re interested. At this time, we haven’t spotted them anywhere else in Disney World, but it’s possible that could change! More Recent EPCOT News! HURRY! 20. Have you ever heard of Dapper Day? It’s a day for Disney fans to enjoy a day at Disney World or Disneyland, all dressed up. Dapper Dans There are many Dapper Day events happening at Disney World and Disneyland in 2026, so you’ll have many chances to join in the fun. However, if you were planning to go for the holiday outing in Disneyland next year, we need to let you know that the date has CHANGED! Originally, the Holiday 2026 Dapper Day outing was supposed to be on November 15th, 2026. However, we just found out the date has been pushed back! Now, the Holiday 2026 Day event will be held on November 22nd, 2026. Dapper Day Expo The reason for the date change is quite simple — how could you do a holiday Dapper Day with no holiday decorations up? Disneyland released the information that the holiday decor won’t be up in Disneyland until a few days after the event. So, they decided to change the date of the event — which is a rare change for them to make. Christmas at Disneyland So, now guests can dress up in their best dapper holiday outfit AND get to take photos in front of all the stunning Christmas decorations. It’s a nice change considering the park will be in its holiday glory and that the date is being moved by only a few days. Also, it’s good that they notified us of the change almost a year in advance! Christmas at Disneyland 2025 Dapper Day has more to offer than just dressing up. There’s talk of a Pop-Up Holiday Boutique at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel. It’s just in the talking stage right now, and nothing has been guaranteed. In-park meetups will also be posted closer to the date of the event. Grand California Hotel If you need a little bit more of a reason to go, you can get special hotel rates at Disney Grand Californian, Pixar Place Hotel, and the Disneyland Hotel. That’s right, you can save up to 36% off — a great deal to add as the cherry on top for a special event. 23. One of the most challenging questions to answer during your Disney World vacation: Where should we eat in Magic Kingdom? Time to eat at Tony’s Town Square! This park is known for having “not as exciting” food options, especially when it comes to table service dining. One spot that has been hated by fans in the past is Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, but in recent years, it has made a MAJOR comeback. Recently, I stopped by to see if it’s still on the up and up…so come along with me! Atmosphere Tony’s Town Square Restaurant is located in the Town Square area of Magic Kingdom, and it’s themed to Lady and the Tramp. Yep, it’s inspired by that iconic spaghetti scene! Tony’s Town Square In fact, there are several nods to the film inside and outside the restaurant, starting with these concrete pawprints out front near stroller parking. So cute! To enter the restaurant, you’ll go into the Town Square Theater and turn left before you hit the Mickey Mouse meet and greet. They’ve got a small host’s stand and waiting area in here. Inside the waiting area There are two main sections to this restaurant. The main dining room has a darker and cozier atmosphere… The darker, cozier atmosphere …while the porch is bright and sunny with a great view of the park. If you can dine here during the parade and get seated in the sunroom, it’s like a fun secret hack! The porch! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Tony’s Town Square Restaurant serves Italian fare, mostly focusing on pasta dishes. For Antipasti (appetizers), you’ll find Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table, Fried Mozzarella, Caesar Salad, Insalata Caprese, House Salad, and Seasonal Soup. For your main course, or Secondi Piatti, you’ll find Chicken Parmigiana, Fettuccine Alfredo, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salmon Piccata, Spaghetti and Impossible® Meatballs, Braised Beef Giardiniera, Rigatoni alla Vodka, and Oven-roasted Shrimp Scampi. The menu There’s also Dolci, or dessert, on the menu as well! You can grab Classic Cannoli, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Gelato, Seasonal Cannoli, Tiramisù, and Plant-based Affogato. You’ll also find kids’ options available here as well. And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First on the buy list, I snagged two appetizers to start my meal. These are some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, and the menu items that really made us feel like Tony’s was finally taking a step in a positive direction a few years ago. Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table is $14 and made with Toasted Ciabatta with Roasted Garlic Butter and Parmesan Fonduta. Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table This is more like garlic toast, because the bottom of each piece is toasted and crunchy, which I couldn’t get enough of! The top of each piece is extremely fluffy and airy, making for a fantastic combination. The Parmesan fondue on the side is the best part, especially since you can control how much you put on, but I also loved the garlic content in this dish. I could also taste the oil and vinegar they use to season the bread as well, in the best way, so consider me a BIG fan! Delicious! The other famous appetizer is the Fried Mozzarella for $16. This is a FOOT LONG mozzarella stick served with Spicy Creamy Tomato Sauce. Fried Mozzarella You’ll want to eat this one pretty fast, because while that cheese pull is fantastic, the moment the outside air can hit it, it’ll start to cool off, and it’ll become more of a mozzarella cheese stick consistency. The breading around it was crispy, but not necessarily crunchy, which I didn’t mind, but it’s important to note that the mozzarella on the side is spicy, so if you’re spice-adverse, you may want to stay away. You can also ask to substitute it for regular marinara, though! It is a little messy with the marinara on the plate as well, so be sure you’ve got your napkin nearby. Lots of cheese! For my entrée, I snagged the Rigatoni alla Vodka for $26. It’s Rigatoni tossed in a Classic Tomato-Vodka Sauce topped with Citrus-Herb Breadcrumbs. Rigatoni alla Vodka I decided to add chicken to this, and it was shockingly good! The chicken was lightly seasoned, more shredded, and was very juicy with a pretty good consistency. The pasta wasn’t perfectly al dente, but I wasn’t mad about that, so the dish overall was more on the soft side. I loved the finely shaved Parmesan on top that seemed to be mixed with breadcrumbs, and the pasta had a very well-rounded flavor that wasn’t too heavy on the tomato. I think it’s a great crowd pleaser, especially since I didn’t find any part of the dish to be overly salted (a common complaint at this spot). I loved it! Then, to wrap it all up with something sweet, I chose the Flourless Chocolate Cake for $9. It’s served with Pistachio Cream, Cherries, and Cocoa Nibs. Flourless Chocolate Cake This was incredibly rich in the absolute best way. It had a smooth and thick texture with a deep, dark chocolate flavor — it was like eating the inside of a truffle. The topping was pistachio cream with little pistachio bits that added a crunchy texture, and there were some cherries on the side (like the sweet ones you get from a jar). The pistachio-cherry balanced well with the chocolate while still allowing it to be the main flavor. It’s a very rich dessert to eat on your own after a full meal, so I recommend sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though, and was super impressed with it as compared to some other sit-down desserts I’ve had. I’d totally get it again! So how did Tony’s fare this time? Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re not afraid to load up on appetizers. This restaurant started to gain popularity when it debuted two AMAZING appetizers: Tony’s Garlic Bread and giant Fried Mozzarella. These two things alone make this spot worth a visit in our book! When you pour that rich, creamy Garlic Butter and Parmesan Fonduta over your garlic bread, it will all make sense. Trust us. You’re searching for a last-minute reservation. This restaurant has a pretty big dining room and plenty of reservations. Even if you’re scrambling for a last-minute reservation, you’ll probably have luck finding a table. You love dining al fresco. There aren’t many table service restaurants that offer outdoor seating in Disney World. Plus, if you time it right, you might even be able to watch a parade from your seat! We’ve been lucky enough to watch the Disney Starlight parade during our meal, and it made the experience 10X better. You should skip this Disney World spot if… The entrees aren’t anything to write home about. Listen, we’re not in Italy. The food here is good, don’t get us wrong, but it’s not like a real Italian nonna is back in the kitchen preparing your meal. We’d compare this to your local Olive Garden. Great if you’re craving Italian food, but not the “real deal” for pasta snobs. Patio seating has its pros and cons… Yes, it was fun to see the parade during our meal, but we noticed two things about the outdoor tables: 1) It’s HOT outside, and they don’t do anything to cool it down. 2) Be warned that the indoor diners may try to come outside during a parade. A manager should tell them to go back inside, but note that you cannot come out to the patio if you’re seated inside. You plan to snack on DOLE Whip, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, Giant Cinnamon Rolls, and Mickey Bars. One word: CARBOHYDRATES. You’re eating bread. You’re eating cheese. You’re eating pasta. That’s a lot of filling, heavy food! Magic Kingdom is a great place to snack your way around the park, but that’s hard to do when you’ve got a belly full of pasta. If you prefer to grab snacky food in Magic Kingdom, you might not need to book a sit-down reservation. There’s plenty to eat around the park! Overall I think this restaurant has gotten a bad rep for a long time, and that was because it was ROUGH. However, it’s really improved in recent years, and that’s a big deal to me. I think it’s definitely worth checking out this restaurant if you’re a fan of Italian food, and you want a last-minute reservation for a solid meal in Magic Kingdom. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
