I just stopped into Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room on a recent visit to Magic Kingdom Park. This classic attraction comes to life when José wakes up the rest of the flock to give a performance that’s positively “enchanted.” This moment in the attraction was the inspiration for today’s Disney Doodle. In it, artist Ashley Taylor envisions a young Anna (from “Frozen”) excitedly waking up the birdies just as she tried to wake her sister, Elsa, in the middle of the night to have fun. “I love when young Anna tries to wake up her sister, Elsa in ‘Frozen’!” she said. “Since José is always snoozing in the Enchanted Tiki Room, I thought Anna would be the perfect character to try to wake him up!” View the full article

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite holiday-themed products created this year for Disney Parks. You may recall seeing a handful of items in a recent Disney Park Blog Unboxed video. Select locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts currently carry many of the items I’ve selected for this article. Guests may also find select products on the Shop Disney Parks app or the Disney Parks online store. Disney Parks Christmas Train Set – All aboard for holiday fun with this 30-piece train set. The set includes a locomotive and 4 train cars; a remote control; 12 curved tracks and 10 straight tracks; and 2 lamp posts. Make the Holidays Bright – An easy way to light up the holidays is with a variety of glow items. In just a few hours, the race to find Santa will begin in the brand-new nighttime holiday spectacular, “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” It’s a full on “Cranberry Red!” situation for elves Wayne and Lanny from “Prep & Landing,” who go on a wild chase to find Santa and return him to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve. On their journey, they race through memorable holiday moments from Disney films like “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Pluto’s Christmas Tree,” Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and more. The show will come to life on, above and around the park’s Chinese Theater with state-of-the-art projections, special effects, fireworks, music and even snow! Guests who want to make the most of their experience may want to consider booking seats in the “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” Holiday Dessert Party, which includes reserved viewing, desserts and specialty beverages. Dessert party attendees will also receive a pair of 3D HoloSpex glasses that create spectacular holographic illusions of gingerbread men, candy canes, snowflakes and ornaments on any bright point of light. We are heading to one of Walt Disney World’s busiest park counter service locations to see what’s new for lunch — Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Learn About: Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants Located on the edge of Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland near where it transitions to Fantasyland (it’s just to the right of the castle), Cosmic Ray’s is an excellent bet for finding something to please everyone, especially if your party includes members who are less adventurous in their tastes. But if you do like more interesting fare, don’t be afraid of this intergalactic hotspot! In addition to tried and true favorites like Chicken Nuggets and Bacon Cheeseburgers, you’ll usually find some outta this world (see what I did there?) options as well. Besides, Cosmic Ray’s is home to one of Disney’s legendary toppings bars. And you KNOW how much I love a good toppings bar. Wanna see what I’m talking about? Let’s head in. Atmosphere Much like the rest of Tomorrowland, Cosmic Ray’s is at once retro and futuristic — although the retro vibe is more 1980s than anything. Purple, teal, and silver will send you searching for your Swatch Watch. Cosmic Ray’s Sign We’ll get to the ordering set up in just a sec, but first, let’s check out the seating. There’s a reason I want you to see this area first — one of the galaxy’s most famous acts takes center stage while you enjoy your meal. Take in the Musical Stylings of Sonny Eclipse Be sure to stick around and check out Sonny Eclipse while you dine! Sonny Eclipse Entertains at Cosmic Ray’s In addition to this seating area, you’ll find more indoor seating away from the action. More Inside Seating at Cosmic Ray’s But sitting outside has its charms, too. The covered patio is nicely protected from the hot sun, and ceiling fans keep the air moving. Outside Seating But besides all of that you’ll have a view of the castle! When it comes to ordering, you’ll find the basic Disney set up here. Give your order to a cashier, and then move forward and pick it up at the counter. One thing to note: Cosmic Rays is kinda huge, and there are three different ordering areas, or Bays. And note that there CAN BE variation in the menu at the three separate bays, so be prepared to wait in two separate lines if necessary to get your family’s whole meal. Ordering Area at Cosmic Rays Eats This isn’t our only visit to Cosmic Ray’s recently. (I’ve kinda got a thing for Sonny.) We checked out some of their new offerings just a few months back. And it looks like things haven’t changed much since the last time. But we did note one missing item. The Half Rotisserie Chicken and Rib Combo is no longer available (this one transitions on and off the menu, in our experience). But you can’t go wrong with options like the Bacon Cheddar Hot Dog or the lighter Greek Salad with Chicken. And I should mention that a recent look at the menu (like, today) shows that now there IS a Half Rotisserie Chicken and Pulled Pork Combo available, and at around $16, it’s a great deal if you’re using Quick Service Credits on the Disney Dining Plan. Menu — Click to Enlarge Menu — Click to Enlarge I made my selections and then headed to the Toppings Bar to check out the lay of the land. Don’t miss the chance to dress up…well, whatever you decide to order. There’s plenty of Shredded Lettuce, Sliced Tomato, and Pickles to top your sandwiches and such. Toppings and Condiments There are also Peppers and other goodies. More Toppings and Condiments But you’ll find more than just cold toppings. Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions are available too! Toppings — Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions Sadly, my most favorite thing ever on the Toppings Bar — the Plastic Cheese Dispenser — is still nowhere to be found. However, you can purchase Cheese Dip — for a $1 a cup. “Add Cheese Dip” Sign at Cosmic Ray’s Note that they’ve now switched up to Gehl’s sharp cheddar sauce, which is a huge step up from the pre-packaged option they used to have. And FYI, it IS served warm, so even though it’s not true plastic cheese (and it’s NOT free), it’s a good substitute. Container of Nacho Cheese Dip I still haven’t quite gotten over the fact that you used to get unlimited amounts of this wonderfulness for the price of your meal. But if you are desperate for cheese sauce, well… at least you have options. Nacho Cheese Dip — Inside You aren’t without interesting dips, though. I found a brand new Sriracha Spicy Aioli. So I’m pretty pumped about that. Pump for Sriracha Spicy Aioli It’s pretty much amazing for Burgers, Chicken, Fries, or just about anything you order. (Well. Maybe not dessert.) And the heat level isn’t overwhelming. Sriracha Spicy Aioli On this visit, I didn’t really have anything to put the aioli on, so I just used it (and the cheese) as dips for my fries :-D. So on to entrees! I had to revisit the Barbecued Pork Bacon Cheeseburger. Barbecued Pork Bacon Cheeseburger It’s basically two sandwiches in one. You have a heaping helping of shredded Pork Barbecue topping a Bacon Cheese Burger. Barbecued Pork Bacon Cheeseburger — Another Angle Now, despite the nearly well-done burger patty (just so you know, you’ll rarely find a decent pink burger patty at a Disney quick-service location — though I can highly recommend the medium-to-medium-rare standard that’s been set at D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs), the flavors were fantastic here. Barbecue pork? Gooooood. Bacon? Gooooood. Cheese? Gooooooood! So while I can’t forgive the burger patty, I’m pretty much resigned to this fact of life by now at Disney restaurants and can appreciate the burgers for their added accessories. Check out all of this pork!! Crazy! Barbecued Pork Bacon Cheeseburger — Cross Section The sandwich is normally served with French Fries, which I totally got. But I really, really love Green Beans. Especially Cosmic Ray’s green beans. So I grabbed a cup of those as an extra side. No joke, you guys, these are SO GOOD! Yes, I’m sure there’s plenty of butter (or “butter product”) and salt on them, but they are one of my favorite snacks in the park. Side of Green Beans Now, dessert! I’ve had the Triple Chocolate Cake, and I really don’t consider Greek Yogurt to be a dessert, so it seemed like the perfect time to try something new to Cosmic Ray’s — S’mores. The dessert is basically a Graham Cracker Cookie studded with Chocolate on the outside. S’mores Tucked inside is where you’ll find the Marshmallow as well as more chocolate. We had previously tried this treat at Herbie’s Drive-In over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and reviews were mixed. And these were actually better than I thought. S’mores — Cross Section Overall, we like them, but I agree — I love the caramelized marshmallow part of the s’more, and you don’t get that here. Overall I can’t help it — Cosmic Ray’s is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I know that a lot of people write it off. Sure, there’s more history at Casey’s, and there are beloved specialties at Columbia Harbour House. And of course, the food quality is better at Be Our Guest. But I just love Cosmic Ray’s. Maybe it’s the campy, slightly dated decor and floor show. But they totally own it! Or maybe it’s the fact that I can always rely on it for a good, solid, generous meal (GREEN BEANS!!). For real, this place saved my rear end when I was starving, my kid hadn’t eaten all day, and we just need a ton of food. Cosmic Ray’s to the rescue!!! Whatever it is, I’ll keep stopping by Cosmic Ray’s to get my Sonny fix whenever I’m in town. Now, I’d love to hear from you! College basketball players from Stanford University and Harvard University took a time-out this week before competing in the 2016 PAC-12 China Game in Shanghai to visit Shanghai Disneyland alongside student athletes from Yao Foundation Hope Primary Schools for a day of fun off the court. During their visit, the students shared a moment in front of the Enchanted Storybook Castle with Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, and snapped a few photos with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. They also had the chance to greet cheering crowds on Mickey Avenue during a special parade. Thanks to a partnership between Shanghai Disney Resort, PAC-12 and Yao Foundation, the students were able to celebrate the start of the NCAA basketball season and make unforgettable memories along the way. Even though Morimoto Asia has only been open for just over a year, in that time it has already debuted a few new offerings. Learn About: Morimoto Asia Downtown Disney Disney World Restaurants Since we first took in dinner at this signature restaurant located in The Landing of Disney Springs it has added Morimoto Asia Street Food, a Counter Service spot for casual and quick dining featuring more of Chef Morimoto’s Pan-Asian cuisine. And over the summer we tried the new Late Night menu, which is available starting at 10PM Sundays through Thursdays, and 11PM Fridays and Saturdays. Now we’re back to check out yet another Morimoto Asia dining opportunity: the new Dim Sum Brunch! Dim Sum is a type of meal very popular in Asian cuisine featuring smaller plates so everyone can enjoy various items in one seating. Before we dive into what’s on the menu, let’s go over some logistics: the Dim Sum Brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30AM to 3:00PM, and the cost is $27.00 per guest. All brunch seating is upstairs at Morimoto Asia (including the 2nd floor outdoor area). Outdoor Patio on the Second Floor Guests ordering Brunch may also order off the regular menu. Also, guests dining at tables downstairs can order off the Brunch menu (though in an a la carte fashion). Outdoor Tables Place setting Included in the price of the Dim Sum Brunch is one item from the First Course offerings on the menu, and three items from the Second Course. Beverages are a separate cost. @morimotoasia Facebook For the First Course, you receive your choice of the Soup of the Day or House Greens. We were able to try the Hot & Sour Soup, which is basically the House Soup of Morimoto Asia. It’s chock full of lots of egg and tofu along with vegetables including tomatoes, scallions and mushrooms in a spicy broth. Hot and Sour Soup It’s simply delicious, with intense flavor — and it does not shy away from the spice. A really nice option for a cooler Florida morning on the outdoor seating area! Hot and Sour Soup Again, the Second Course includes your choice of three items (though you are welcome to add any additional choices for $6.00). You’ll notice in the pictures to come that we were primarily served pork options at the Brunch preview that we attended, but the menu also includes variations on several items to include shrimp, chicken, and vegetable options. Let’s start with the Pork Ribs! They are steamed in a black bean sauce and topped off with scallions and red pepper strings. Pork Ribs The steamed ribs were tender without being too heavy. Pork Ribs The bean flavor was definitely prominent in the black bean sauce, and there were pieces of bean mixed in with the pork, too. The Chasu Pork is strips of roasted pork with a light soy glaze. Chasu Pork It carried a really nice, slight hint of smokiness, and this pork was also incredibly tender. The soy glaze added some sweetness to the pork. Chasu Pork Xiaolong Boa is a dish of four pork soup dumplings served in a steaming basket with a side of red chili sauce for dipping. Xiaolong Bao Each small bun was soft and doughy, and filled with minced pork. Xiaolong Bao While I really enjoyed the texture, I would’ve preferred more meat inside the actual bun. Personally, I’d choose one of the other pork options over this one. And speaking of more pork options , the Fried Spicy Pork Dumplings also included four dumplings, this time served with a side of spicy soy sauce. Fried Spicy Pork Dumplings The dumplings are filled with minced pork, red peppers, and chiles. Fried Spicy Pork Dumplings Again, the texture was spot on. The outer layer of the dumplings was crunchy while the inside maintained its chewy dumpling texture, giving it a good crunchy-soft texture. These are definitely on the spicy side, and the accompanying soy sauce also had plenty of hot red pepper. You’ll find the Morimoto Spicy Chow Fun Noodles listed on the menu as a suggested add-on course for an additional $8.00. Morimoto Spicy Chow Fun Noodles It’s a plate of wide rice noodles with egg, spicy basil sauce, and vegetables including tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms. Morimoto Spicy Chow Fun Noodles This may have been my favorite dish of the morning (with the Fried Spicy Pork Dumplings being a close second). The sauce on these terrific noodles had just the right amount of flavor and spice. I’d definitely suggest this as a shareable plate for the table. We’re back to the regular second course options for our final Brunch item: the Sesame Balls. Sesame Balls These four sesame balls are filled with a sweet azuki bean sauce that make this the closest item on the menu to a dessert; so if you prefer to end your brunch with something sweet, then these are the best choice to end your meal. Sesame Balls Again, beverages are available at an additional cost. But we did have a chance to enjoy a few cocktails while we were there. And since these seasonal drinks are available all day — as opposed to being exclusive to the Brunch — we want to show you these, too! Seasonal cocktails are part of the regular rotation at Morimoto Asia, so while these particular drinks may not be available on your visit, they’ll give you an idea of some of the fun and creativity behind the seasonal concoctions. The Autumn Pumpkin Martini is made of Tito’s Vodka, pumpkin spice syrup, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and almond milk. It is dusted with some cinnamon to give it some spice and has a crushed graham cracker-like rim. Autumn Pumpkin Martini If you’re a fan of pumpkin (like me!), you will totally dig this! It’s on the sweet side but the pumpkin flavor is subtle, so it’s not overly so. Autumn Pumpkin Martini It’s definitely more of a dessert drink with the heavy creaminess of the Bailey’s, but the smooth Tito’s Vodka helps it go down easily. The Nashi Pear Margarita is a unique choice made of Maestro Dobel Tequila, pear puree, lime juice and Cointreau. I really enjoy pear flavors in the winter time so I loved how this drink was a Winter-meets-Florida beverage! Nashi Pear Margarita The Nashi pear puree was fresh and tasted fantastic with the orange flavor of the Cointreau and orange garnish. It’s very refreshing, and REALLY delicious. The Lychee Lemon Soda is a non-alcoholic drink with fresh mint leaves, lemon juice, lychee puree and soda water. Lychee Lemon Soda This drink was nice and light with its pleasant lychee flavor, along with the cool combo of lemon and mint. Admittedly, it wasn’t the most autumnal of drinks we tried , but still a keeper! It’s fun to have a new brunch option in Disney Springs (after all, we lost one when Fulton’s Crab House closed; perhaps we will gain it back when Paddlefish opens?). And the fact that it’s a unique choice featuring Chef Morimoto’s Pan-Asian cuisine makes it even more welcome. For $27.00 per person, Dim Sum offers a fun chance to taste some new items that range from meat and vegetables to steamed and fried options to customize your meal, along with an opportunity to enjoy the uniquely beautiful setting of Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs. We have some exciting news to share about Hong Kong Disneyland’s very first Marvel-themed ride coming soon. On January 11, 2017, Iron Man Experience will officially open to guests around the world. Iron Man Experience – Presented by AIA will allow you to soar over the skies of Hong Kong alongside Iron Man in an epic battle against the evil forces of Hydra for a multi-sensory, immersive experience that’s sure to leave you breathless. “Hong Kong Disneyland is excited to bring its first-ever Marvel-themed ride to Hong Kong,” said Samuel Lau, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. “We are proud to give local and overseas guests a different perspective and experience of Hong Kong while promoting our vibrant city to the world at the same time.” But the world of Iron Man doesn’t disappear when you land. Step outside and you’ll find the Expo Shop with hundreds of Iron Man and Marvel-themed merchandise items and memorabilia in reach, plus the chance to try on Iron Man’s own suit of armor in the interactive game called Become Iron Man at The Stark Expo. Earlier this week, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party returned to Magic Kingdom Park – and with it, the brand-new stage show “Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration.” In this show, which guests can catch only during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party events, Mickey and friends have invited some of their pals over for an unforgettable Christmas party. With every ring of the doorbell, more special guests drop by to join the fun, each bringing a song or two in their own unique style. Who’s on the guest list? Clarabelle Cow, Woody and Jessie, Jose and Panchito from “The Three Caballeros,” Snow White, Peter Pan and many more. It all builds up to feature a special holiday finale from hosts Mickey and Minnie. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is offered on select nights through December 22. Walter Beckman from Pensacola, Fla., knows a lot about conquering challenges. Suddenly blind in his early 20s, Beckman overcame many obstacles as he adjusted to a new way of life. This past weekend, Beckman took on a challenge of a different kind, completing the Lumiere’s Two Course Challenge – running the 10K on Saturday and half marathon on Sunday, during the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend presented by MISFIT. Nearly five years ago, Beckman woke up unable to see anything. He soon learned that an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in his brain ruptured and damaged his optic nerve, leaving him blind. The shocking ordeal was difficult for him to accept, especially because at the time he was serving in the US Army Reserves. Used to living an active lifestyle and maintaining a rigorous fitness regimen, Beckman now had to re-learn the simplest of activities without his sense of sight. Adapting to being blind was a day-to-day battle, an arduous process that led to significant weight gain and, at his highest, Beckman weighed 360 pounds. After two years, he got back into running and he lost more than 70 pounds but regained his confidence, inspiring him to tackle a long distance race. Beckman smashed his goal – and more – by completing the 19.3-mile challenge at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. With the assistance of his guide, Michael Irene, Beckman crossed the finish line on Sunday, overcoming all expectations and his own self-doubt of what he could accomplish blind. Standing at the finish with his fists held high and his three race medals around his neck, Beckman was an inspiring sight to the crowd and the thousands of other runners.
