Things are about to get a little wicked when the Villain Kids (aka VKs) from the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants 2” visit the Disneyland Resort. Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Carlos (Cameron Boyce), Jay (Booboo Stewart) and Uma (China Anne McClain), along with Emmy Award-winning director Kenny Ortega will be the Mickey’s Soundsational Parade Grand Marshals on Thursday, July 13, at 4 p.m. PST (7 p.m. EST) at Disneyland park. If you can’t make it in person, don’t worry! Check back here at 4 p.m. PST (7 p.m. EST), as we will be live-streaming the Pre-Parade moment here on the Disney Parks Blog. The live stream will be hosted by Radio Disney’s Morgan Tompkins and YouTube sensation Charisma Star. Don’t forget to tune into “Descendants 2” when it simultaneously premieres Friday, July 21 (8 p.m. EST/PST) across six networks within the Disney|ABC Television Group, including Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform, Lifetime and Lifetime Movies. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas — yes, already — at Disney Springs. The Marketplace side of the shopping and entertainment compound is planning a limited-time promotion based on the winter holiday season. Its midyear celebration will be held July 15-30, which means that in August we... View the full article

It was a warm summer day, and we had been on the boat for about an hour; a group of conservationists and some local experts, all intent on getting a glimpse of the largest fish in the ocean. When all you can see is horizon and ocean, it’s difficult to imagine that there is a specific destination in mind, but our local guides clearly knew the way. The boat stopped and just like that, I was plunging into the Atlantic ocean, no sandy bottom in sight, and swimming quickly toward a large dark shadow easily three times my size. When the whale shark appeared, it was breathtaking. I was mesmerized and so grateful that such gentle giants exist on our planet. That experience was a meaningful reminder that, more than ever, we need to work together to reverse the decline of the more than 1,000 species of sharks and rays and protect their ocean homes. The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) is working with the Wildlife Conservation Society and other collaborating organizations on a global initiative to reverse the decline of sharks and rays by supporting the scientific management of fisheries, reducing the demand for shark and ray products and advancing research to secure protected status for threatened species. In addition, since 1995, the DCF has provided more than 40 grants to projects in 10 countries (and growing!) to aid sharks and their ocean habitats. Here are just a few of the ways organizations we supported last year are helping. The Manta Trust & The Gulf of California Marine Program are building local research and conservation capacity in Pacific Mexico to improve the understanding and management of artisanal fisheries to better protect shark and ray species. University of Miami is studying shark behavior and physiology along the South Florida coastline to provide insights on how species react to coastal urbanization and inspire the next generation of ocean conservationists. The Zoological Society of London, in partnership with the University of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and the “Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig,” is protecting habitat for the critically endangered angel shark in the Canary Islands, engaging citizen scientists to help monitor the animals, sharing best practices with communities related to tourism that affects angel sharks and identifying possible breeding areas in the region. You can learn more about sharks, rays and other animals at the Walt Disney World Resort by visiting DisneyAnimals.com. And when you visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, be sure to take part in “Connect to Protect,” a mobile adventure that invites guests to participate in conservation “missions” with a digital scientist while exploring Pandora and helping protect the habits of at-risk wildlife, even sharks and rays, right here on Earth. For the first year, the holidays will begin a bit early at Disney Springs with the celebration of Christmas in July. Beginning July 15 through July 30, 2017, you can start searching for the perfect Holiday gift throughout the Disney Springs Marketplace while experiencing special holiday-themed treats, merchandise and entertainment offerings. In July, The Art of Disney is featuring holiday inspired art with artist meet and greets, Dockside Margaritas is pouring the Snowflake Margarita, and Disney’s Days of Christmas is hosting a special meet and greet with Santa – dressed for the Florida heat. “Summer Santa” will be on hand for photographs 1:00pm to 10:00pm. For this limited-time Disney Springs celebration, a DJ will be spinning Christmas-beats and Enjoy Your Face will be celebrating with holiday face painting designs. Even the Disney Springs fountains will be decked for the season. Also, Starbucks in the Marketplace is offering their holiday themed drinks and you can stock up on sweets at Goofy’s Candy Company or Disney’s Candy Cauldron, featuring peppermint bark and gingerbread cookies. You’ll also find a few holiday-themed treats, including Santa Mickey and Minnie specialty apples and krispy treats, to delight children of all ages. Head over to AristoCrepes to indulge in a gingerbread crepe or a uniquely-shaped gingerbread cookie at Amorette’s Patisserie. The special events continue in July with UNIQLO celebrating their 1-year anniversary with a Japanese Night Market inspired celebration. Now through July 30, 2017, guests can experience a taste of a traditional Japanese night market, complete with prize-winning games, special photo opportunities, origami and calligraphy classes, and more. This event is a first of its kind at UNIQLO, and special activities run from 7:00pm to 11:00pm daily. Visit UNIQLO’s event page event page for more information. And, if you’re looking for a spot to relax before checking out our nighttime entertainment, multiple venues have enhanced their daily drink special offerings. Throughout the month of July, the bar located inside the House of Blues Restaurant & Bar will offer drink specials daily, from 11:30am to 5:00pm. We shared last week that STK Orlando had rolled out daily drink specials, and now Joffrey’s Tea Traders has also joined in on the fun. Stop by Tea Traders Café by Joffrey’s in the Landing between 4:00pm and 7:00pm daily to try discounted “spiked specialties,” including the Kahlua-Tini and Frozen Cappuccino with Bailey’s. Our Marvel Day at Sea sailings are fast approaching and ready to deliver action-packed heroics on the high seas. To help you invent your own thrilling storyline, we collaborated with Disney fashion expert Leslie Kay – creator of the DisneyBound blog – to share inspiration and tips for transforming into a modern-day knight in advanced armor. There’s a whole new master of magnetism in town when your fashion is filled with the personality of Iron Man. Technically speaking, the high-tech suit of armor is not made of iron, but rather a gold titanium. You’ll be invincible in your own version, showing everyone that you always have a plan to make the world a better place. Styling tips from Leslie: The Iron Man suit is a lot of red with gold. To break up the solid wall of red, choose a dress or use a variety gold accents. Include a circular necklace or accessory to mimic his electromagnet. For more ideas to express your Super Hero “character”istics and to get a glimpse at what you can expect during this epic event, keep following along on the Disney Parks Blog as we reveal more Marvel Day at Sea fun in store. One of my favorite parts of KA WA‘A lu‘au at Aulani Resort actually happens before the show. When guests arrive, they will be greeted by our hosts and hostesses with a special lei. Then, guests will be encouraged to mingle around the resort’s Halawai Lawn as live music and performers set the tone for the evening. Also available during this time are various traditional arts and crafts for guests to not only observe, but also participate. Be sure to check out the following: Na Pua U‘i (The Pretty Flowers): You’ll learn the traditional art of stringing lei (or flower garlands) together, creating your very own to adorn your neck or wrist. In late April, Portobello Country Italian Trattoria in Disney Springs closed its doors. And today, we’ve received news of what’s going to come of the space! Terralina Crafted Italian will continue the Italian cuisine tradition when it opens this fall! ©Disney Chef Tony Mantuano — James Beard Award Winner — will return from Portobello to create Terralina’s menu, and will be joined once more by Chef Justin Plank who will run the kitchen. But there is plenty of change in store, too, for this all-new restaurant, which is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar refurbishment. The result in the atmosphere will be “reminiscent of an Italian home” inspired by Italy’s Lake District, featuring an open kitchen and dining rooms as well as an outdoor veranda bar. ©Disney The wood-burning oven will be used to create artisanal pizzas along with fresh vegetable dishes. Mussels and a Grilled Pork Chop will be among the Signature Items, and a few familiar favorites from Portobello will return (including the antipasti platter and signature pastas). Tuscan Salumi Pizza from Portbello Terralina Crafted Italian will serve both lunch and dinner. Refurbishment Signs outside Portobello Andy Lansing — President and CEO of Levy Restaurants — states: “We are excited to have created Terralina Crafted Italian with a vision to deliver authentic food, hospitality and every last detail as part of a memorable guest experience.” So will Terralina be…well…basically Portobello with a new name? Or will it be a new concept altogether? We shall see. Disney Food Blog Fans, be sure to check out our DFB Disney World Dining Guide e-Books! Find great deals at DFBStore.com! Terralina Crafted Italian Opens This Fall at Disney Springs
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
The much-anticipated Terralina Crafted Italian is anticipated to open this fall at Disney Springs in the space of the former Portobello Country Italian Trattoria. Good news, James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano returns from Portobello to curate the new menu, and Chef Justin Plank will be back to run the kitchen. A multi-million- dollar makeover is transforming the space in The Landing on the shores of Lake Buena Vista. Inspired by the design and lifestyle of Italy’s Lake District, the new restaurant will be reminiscent of an Italian home, with an open kitchen, dining rooms with eclectic décor and a new veranda bar outside the main entrance. Chef Mantuano’s authentic Italian cuisine (much of it infused with his signature olive oil imported directly from Italy) will include artisanal pizzas and fresh vegetable dishes fired up in a wood-burning oven. Two new signatures – mussels and a grilled pork chop – will be on the menu, along with favorites from Portobello such as the antipasti platter and signature pastas. “Focusing on the hearth of the kitchen dishes will embody the passion and flare of the flames,” said Mantuano. “We are excited to have created Terralina Crafted Italian with a vision to deliver authentic food, hospitality and every last detail as part of a memorable guest experience,” said Andy Lansing, president and CEO of Levy Restaurants, who owns the restaurant. Terralina will be open for lunch and dinner – check back for opening dates. View the full article -

Sure, there’s plenty of new stuff to check out at Animal Kingdom these days, what with Pandora — The World of AVATAR still less than two months old. Welcome to Animal Kingdom! But we’re starting our tour around the Park with the return of an old favorite… Ice Cold Treats (and Not-So-Much) The Jungle Juice Slushy has returned to Mahindi! Jungle Juice Slushy Returning as mysteriously as it vanished a few months ago, we were pumped to see this freezy version of POG Juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava) back in Africa’s Harambe Village. As before, you’ll only see it listed on the main menu with the inclusion of the Musical Tumbler. Mahindi Menu But if you read the very small print on the Musical Tumbler sign, you’ll see you can still get the Slushsy on its own for $5.29. Musical Tumbler sign Just down the way, Harambe Fruit Market has some new treats up its sleeve. Harambe Fruit Market You can now grab some Flame-Grilled, Butter-Dipped, and Berbere-Spiced Corn on the Cob! Corn on the Cob sign Can’t you just smell it? Grill at Harambe Fruit Market Still, if you find it a little too warm for anything “Flame-Grilled,” you might opt for some Shaved Ice instead, available in Watermelon, Mango-Passion Fruit, or Pina Colada. Shaved Ice at Harambe Check out those spiked options on the menu, too! Shaved Ice Pandora’s Pongu Lumpia We’ve already got a small change to the menu at Pongu Pongu — Pandora’s drink station — to report. Pongu Pongu Pongu Lumpia, the station’s signature snack of pineapple and cream cheese filled spring rolls — has changed in serving size. Pongu Pongu Menu Now you receive one Pongu Lumpia for $2.99 (as opposed to 2 for $4.50 as previously served). Blergh. New Breakfast Options And Pandora’s Satu’li Canteen isn’t the only place serving up new breakfast options for Animal Kingdom guests nowadays. Local Food Cafes sign Local Foods Cafe (a/k/a Yak & Yeti Counter Service) is now serving a full breakfast menu through 10:30 am, including English Muffin Sandwiches, Breakfast Burritos and Tacos, and Hash Brown Bites. Breakfast Menu The regular Lunch and Dinner menu has seen some changes as well. Say “So long” to the Roasted Vegetable Cous Cous Wrap, and “Hello” to Vegetable Tikka Masala. Lunch and Dinner Menu Dinoland Switcheroo HEY-OOOHHH from Dinoland, U.S.A.! Pluto and Goofy in Dinoland, USA Heads up that you won’t find Churros (or the Bugs Sundae, now that we mention it) anymore at Dino-Bite Snacks. Dino-Bite Snacks The Churros have been relocated to Dino Diner, where they’ve taken the place of Cinnamon-Glazed Almonds and Pecans on the menu. Dino Diner Dino Diner Menu Discoveries in Discovery Island We found a price DROP in Discovery Island (perhaps that should’ve been the headline for this post )! The Feeding Ground Menu The Lotus Popcorn Bucket can now be found at The Feeding Ground popcorn-and-more stand for $11.29 (as opposed to the previous $15.99 price tag). Lotus Blossom Popcorn Bucket AND it’s still refillable! And we wrap with a very little something, but we know some of you may be quite excited to hear it… out first Pumpkin Sighting of 2017 has already taken place . Creature Comforts Find Pumpkin Bread back again at Creature Comforts (and perhaps your local Starbucks, too?). (And FYI, we found pumpkin and pecan tarts later in the day at one of the Disney resorts…so if you’re longing for Fall temperatures and flavors, they’re on their way!) Guests attending the D23 Expo 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center from July 14-16 this year can visit a pop-up shop from Mickey’s of Glendale, the merchandise location that is typically only open to Disney Imagineers and cast members. Located in the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts pavilion, this shop will provide the only opportunity for Expo guests to purchase a unique assortment of Disney Parks-inspired merchandise. I recently caught up with the Mickey’s of Glendale team who provided me a first look at some of the items guests will find. Mickey’s of Glendale team partnered with Imagineers to design merchandise using their original artwork. Among the Imagineering Exclusive items debuting at the Expo are camp shirts featuring artwork and patterns compiled from iconic symbols from Adventureland and Pirates of the Caribbean. Other apparel items will include a salute to Star Tours which is celebrating three decades at Disney Parks this year. For the first time ever, Mickey’s of Glendale will feature bronze collectibles celebrating Walt Disney Imagineering’s heritage. With only 25 pieces of each figure available at the Expo, this extremely limited-edition collection commemorates the art of the Imagineering design process. Finally, in celebration of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts: A Galaxy of Stories pavilion, Mickey’s of Glendale will also offer unique merchandise featuring designs inspired by the stories being shared at this year’s Expo. Pandora – The World of Avatar offers many ways for guests to connect with nature, animals and the overall living, breathing planet of Pandora. Whether it’s experiencing riding on a banshee or tasting Na’vi-inspired dishes at Satu’li Canteen, guests can truly immerse themselves in the wonder and culture of Pandora. Today we’re happy to share another unique way guests can connect with this amazing land – through music. Swotu Wayä (“sacred place of song”), is located in the heart of Mo’ara Valley, and is where guests can interact with a collection of instruments fashioned by the Na’vi that are connected into the moon’s root system. As guests play instruments, they connect to a living memory of song that responds to fill the space around them with music and light. At various times throughout the day and into the evening, a group of musicians gather at Swotu Wayä to perform a traditional Na’vi Drum Ceremony. Led by a musicologist who has studied Na’vi musical culture, the group also includes an expatriate from Earth and a native Pandoran who is among the first generation of humans born on Pandora. Check out the video above to experience the emotional power of the group’s performance. To see them yourselves on your trip to Pandora – The World of Avatar, be sure to check the park’s Times Guide on the day of your visit. View the full article
