  1. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a norovirus outbreak on the Rotterdam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, resulted in 81 passengers and 8 crew members becoming ill during the voyage. The cruise ship had a total of 2,593 passengers and 1,005 crew members on board. ©Holland America The outbreak occurred on the sailing from December 28th, 2025, through January 9th, 2026. Holland America reported the outbreak on January 8th, 2026. In total, about 3.1% of the passengers were ill during the voyage, and 0.8% of the crew were ill during the voyage. In response to the outbreak, Holland America Line increased cleaning and disinfection procedures, collected stool specimens from gastrointestinal illness cases, isolated those infected, and consulted with the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) about sanitation cleaning procedures. VSP is remotely monitoring the situation, including the ship’s response and sanitation procedures. ©Holland America According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, norovirus is highly contagious and causes vomiting and diarrhea. Some people may also experience a fever, headache, and body aches. It is often called the “stomach flu” or “stomach bug.” Usually, someone infected with norovirus gets better in 1-3 days, but they can still spread the virus for 2 weeks or more after feeling better. Norovirus spreads through direct contact with someone with norovirus, eating or drinking contaminated food or liquids, or touching contaminated objects or surfaces, and then putting your fingers in your mouth. The most common settings for norovirus outbreaks include: healthcare facilities, restaurants, schools/childcare centers, and cruise ships. ©CDC Even though cruise ships account for only 1% of all reported norovirus outbreaks, they often receive media attention. Outbreaks are also harder to control on cruise ships due to the close quarters, shared dining areas, and rapid passenger turnover. There were 23 reported norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships in VSP’s jurisdiction in 2025. If you are heading out on a cruise and worried about norovirus, there are a few precautions you can take. Wash your hands often and well with soap and water. Using hand sanitizer alone will not be effective against norovirus. Be careful not to put your hands on your face or in your mouth after touching surfaces. Raw or undercooked shellfish can contain norovirus. ©CDC We are always on the lookout for the latest travel news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 2. Ride share services, like Uber and Lyft, have become a huge part of Disney World vacations for many guests, but there are a few things you should know before opening the app. Rideshare sign at EPCOT You might be heading to the parks at rope drop, bouncing between resorts, or trying to make a dining reservation on time, and ride shares can feel like the fastest and most convenient option on property. But navigating Disney World by car isn’t always as straightforward as it seems, and your Uber driver probably knows a few things that could make your trip smoother, but they might be too polite to say them out loud. Here are four things your Disney World Uber driver wants you to know and why keeping them in mind can save you time, money, and a little stress. 1. There Are Several Pick-Ups At Disney Springs, there isn’t just one universal ride share pickup location; there are several. Some are incredibly easy for drivers to access, while others require navigating tight turns, heavy traffic, or long waits just to get in and out. A pickup spot that seems closest on the map might actually be the slowest option. In some cases, it’s worth walking a little farther to a less congested area if it means your driver can reach you faster and leave more easily. And then there’s the surface parking lot near Cirque du Soleil, which many drivers think is the best option. It works, but it can be slower, harder to access, and less ideal during peak times. Choosing the right pickup spot can make a surprising difference in how long you wait and how smooth your ride is. Ride Share at Disney Springs 2. You’re Not Being Dropped Off At Magic Kingdom This one catches a lot of guests off guard. If you take an Uber or Lyft to Magic Kingdom, you are not being dropped off at the park entrance. Instead, you’ll be dropped off at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), which means there’s still another step or two between you and the gates. From the TTC, you’ll need to choose how to get to Magic Kingdom itself, either by monorail or ferryboat. Your driver is aware of this, but they may not want to break the news, so it’s best to plan ahead and factor in the extra travel time into your day. TTC Ride Share 3. Tipping Really Matters While tipping is always optional, it’s worth knowing that tips make up a significant portion of many ride share drivers’ income. Over the years, the base pay drivers receive from Uber and Lyft has steadily decreased, even as gas prices, insurance, and vehicle maintenance costs have increased. A tip, even a modest one, can go a long way, especially for drivers navigating Disney World traffic, dealing with confusing pickup points, and helping guests get where they need to go on time. If your driver was friendly, helpful, or patient, a tip is a simple way to show appreciation. Ride Share at EPCOT 4. No, They Can’t Drop You Off at Resorts Without a Reservation While you might have seen this “hack” floating around on the internet, ride shares likely cannot drop you off at a Disney hotel without a reservation. They still will have to go through the hotel security, who will likely ask you why you are there at the resort. It is likely your drive will be unable to drop you off here without you having a dining reservation. So before you book that Uber to Disney’s Contemporary Resort to walk over to Magic Kingdom to beat the crowds at the TTC, think again. While there might be a few cases where it works, is it really worth trying just to be turned away and waste even more time? 5. Staying at a Disney World hotel has always come with some major perks like Early Theme Park Entry, immersive theming, close proximity to the parks, and (for many guests) the convenience of Disney transportation. Disney’s Pop Century Boats, buses, Monorails, and the Skyliner are often a huge reason guests choose one resort over another. But lately, transportation changes are creating a new headache for Disney World hotel guests who may not realize what they’re losing until they arrive. If you’re planning an upcoming Disney World trip, here are two significant transportation disruptions you’ll want to know about before you book. Temporary Boat Closure at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge If you’re hoping to stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge on or after January 12th, 2026, you may need to rethink how you’ll get around, especially if you rely on boats. From January 12th, 2026, through April 2026, the boat dock at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will close for routine refurbishment. During this time, guests will need to rely on bus transportation to get to the parks. The biggest impact? Transportation to Magic Kingdom. Boat at Wilderness Lodge The good news is that the boat route to Magic Kingdom won’t be unavailable for the entire refurbishment period. That specific boat service will be closed from January 12th through January 30th, 2026. If your stay falls within those dates, you’ll need to take a bus instead of the popular and scenic boat ride many guests book at Wilderness Lodge specifically to enjoy. Disney bus Skyliner Closure Another major transportation perk that many guests plan their trips around is the Disney Skyliner, but it will also be temporarily unavailable during select dates. If you’re traveling between January 25th, 2026, and January 31st, 2026, the Disney Skyliner will be closed for regular maintenance and refurbishment. During these closures, complimentary bus transportation will be provided. However, if you chose your resort specifically for Skyliner access, this closure could significantly change your experience. The resorts impacted include: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Disney’s Pop Century Resort Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Disney’s Riviera Resort Disney Skyliner Station between Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts We’re not saying you shouldn’t book a Skyliner resort during these dates because many guests love these hotels for their theming, dining, room layouts, and amenities. That said, if quick and direct Skyliner access to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a major priority for you, you may want to consider alternative resorts during these time frames to avoid disappointment. It’s also worth noting that this refurbishment isn’t unusual. The Skyliner typically closes once at the beginning of each year to ensure the system continues operating properly and safely, but it can still catch unprepared guests off guard. The Skyliner will also close in 2027 from January 24th through January 30th. Skyliner What This Means for Disney Hotel Guests Transportation is one of the biggest reasons Disney hotel guests pay a premium to stay on property. When boats or the Skyliner are unexpectedly unavailable, it can impact travel times, park plans, and even overall satisfaction with a resort stay. Knowing about these closures in advance can help you choose the right hotel or at least adjust expectations before you arrive. 6. It was an extra meaningful Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for Disney cast member and blood cancer survivor Nikki as she cheered on her mom who ran her first-ever runDisney 10K in support of Nikki and Blood Cancer United, the race weekend’s celebrated charity. Nikki’s Journey “It all started with just a few bruises I couldn’t explain,” Nikki shared. “Within 24 hours of hearing the word ‘leukemia,’ I was on a flight to Seattle to start treatment.” Nikki was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and underwent intensive chemotherapy followed by a full stem cell transplant, a process she describes as “rebuilding your immune system from scratch.” Nikki’s donor was a young man across the country whose selfless choice saved her life. “His generosity literally gave me a second chance,” she said. Reaching remission brought overwhelming relief and a new way of seeing the world. Throughout her journey, Nikki’s mother was a constant support system. “She was with me 24/7,” Nikki said. “I don’t think there was a single moment she wasn’t right by my side.” Nikki and her mom, Sharon Disney’s Commitment to Cast and Workplace Wellness Now two years in remission, Nikki is living her dream: creating magic as a Walt Disney World cast member. As a leader in workplace wellness, Disney’s committed to supporting cast members like Nikki by providing a variety of resources to help with well-being and growth. Working at Creature Comforts in Animal Kingdom, Nikki finds joy in small moments with guests. “I try to put a lot of care into every interaction,” she said. “A kind word or a small moment can change someone’s day. You never know what someone else might be going through.” How runDisney Supports Blood Cancer United Blood Cancer United has been a celebrated charity of Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for more than 30 years, raising more than $96 million to support research and patients over that time. “That fundraising leads to new treatments and options for people like me,” Nikki said. “Runners supporting this cause are giving people hope and second chances.” “Being able to support and honor my daughter by running the Walt Disney World 10K meant everything to me,” said Sharon, Nikki’s mom. “It was a way to thank everyone who helped get us here and to carry those families with us every step of the way.” Sharon, Nikki’s mom, crossing the finish line Filled with gratitude and excitement for her future full-time role at Disney, Nikki hopes her story inspires others to stay aware, stay kind, and never ignore the little signs. “A few bruises saved my life,” she said. “And now I get to be here, making magic every day.” The post Hope, Healing, and Disney Magic in Every Mile appeared first on Disney Experiences. 7. We have sad poutine news from EPCOT. While we were expecting the closure, the Refreshment Port in EPCOT is officially temporarily closed. This snack stand, located near the Port of Entry and near the Canada pavilion, is closed for refurbishment. Refreshment Port is known for its poutine (and usually offers a special poutine during the festivals). The Refreshment Port Disney hasn’t announced when the Refreshment Port will reopen yet, and the Disney World website still shows no hours for the snack stand through March 13th (which is how far the calendar is currently available). That doesn’t necessarily mean it couldn’t open before March 13th, but as of right now, we don’t know when it will reopen. When we stopped by The Refreshment Port this morning, a line of greenery blocked the entrance. While it is definitely closed, there wasn’t anything currently happening that we could see. Although they could also be working on the inside of the stand. The menu boards were still the same as before. The Refreshment Port is closed! The Refreshment Port wasn’t listed on this year’s Festival of the Arts menus, either, so it looks like we won’t be getting a special poutine. There will still be plenty of food options, though (just no festival poutine). The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts will feature 18 Food Studios, along with special offerings at other locations throughout EPCOT. The festival kicks off this Friday, January 16th, and runs through February 23rd, 2026. It’s almost time for the Festival of the Arts! If you are looking to get your poutine fix while the Refreshment Port is closed, there are still a few spots around Disney World! If you are in EPCOT, you can grab the Signature Poutine from Le Cellier Steakhouse. It costs $19 and features hand-cut pomme frites, cheese curds, cheddar, and cabernet demi. Keep in mind that Le Cellier is a table-service restaurant, so you won’t be able to just grab your poutine and go. Signature Poutine from Le Cellier If you are looking for a grab-and-go option, head over to The Daily Poutine at Disney Springs! The Daily Poutine offers a variety of poutine options, plus you can also grab a classic poutine with gravy and cheese curds. Or, you could try Buffalo Chicken Poutine, Butter Chicken Poutine, and more. If you are looking for more adventurous poutine options, eet by Maneet Chauhan at Disney Springs also offers a Tandoori Chicken Poutine. For $15.95, the Tandoori Chicken Poutine comes with chaat masala fries, tandoori chicken, white cheddar curds, and rich tomato butter sauce. Poutines from The Daily Poutine! 8. There’s no denying that a Disney World trip can get pricey Whether it’s tickets and hotels, food, or souvenirs, a trip to the “Most Magical Place on Earth” can easily break the bank, even with discounts in place. The Monorail INSIDE Contemporary Resort While it’s tempting to pinch pennies wherever you can, there are certain splurges that make your trip smoother, more memorable, and, let’s be honest, way more magical. Whether you’re a seasoned Disney pro or planning your first trip, these five splurges are worth every single penny, according to Disney pros. Lightning Lane for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind At EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of the hottest attractions, and for good reason. This indoor roller coaster combines next-level storytelling, mind-blowing visuals, and a killer soundtrack. But here’s the catch: the virtual queue can be tricky to snag, and the standby line can be LONG. Cosmic Rewind This is where purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane comes in. Yes, it’s an extra cost, but skipping the line for this top-tier attraction potentially lets you reclaim hours of your day, and trust us, this ride is worth it. Plus, who wants to spend their EPCOT day glued to the My Disney Experience app or stuck waiting in line? Preferred Rooms at Value Resorts If you’re staying at a Disney Value Resort like Pop Century or Disney’s All-Star Resorts, upgrading to a Preferred Room might seem unnecessary, but it can make a huge difference. These rooms are closer to the main lobby, dining areas, and transportation, which means less walking after long park days. Disney’s Pop Century Resort Imagine you’ve been exploring Magic Kingdom for hours, your feet are screaming, and you’re carrying bags of souvenirs. Would you rather trudge all the way to the farthest building on the property or take a quick stroll back to your room? That extra convenience is worth the splurge, especially if you’re traveling with kids or planning rope-drop mornings. A Fireworks Cruise If you’re looking for an unforgettable Disney memory, a fireworks cruise is where it’s at. ©Disney These private boat tours give you a VIP view of either Happily Ever After at Magic Kingdom or Luminous: The Symphony of Us at EPCOT. You’ll set sail on a chartered boat, complete with snacks and drinks, and enjoy a serene ride before stopping in the perfect spot to watch the show. ©Disney The best part? You avoid the massive crowds that gather in the parks. Instead of fighting for a good spot hours in advance, you can kick back, relax, and soak in the magic from the water. It’s a splurge that feels like a true luxury, and it’s perfect for special occasions or just treating yourself. Dinner at California Grill or Topolino’s Terrace During Fireworks When it comes to combining fine dining with Disney magic, California Grill and Topolino’s Terrace are in a league of their own. These restaurants offer stunning views of Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, making them ideal spots for catching the fireworks without the hustle and bustle of the parks. View of the Magic Kingdom fireworks from California Grill California Grill, located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, serves up elevated dishes like oak-fired filet of beef and sushi while offering floor-to-ceiling views of Happily Ever After. Over at Disney’s Riviera Resort, Topolino’s Terrace pairs Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with a breathtaking view of EPCOT’s nighttime spectacular. EPCOT Fireworks Views from Topolino’s Terrace You’ll want to plan your reservation for about an hour before the fireworks start. You’ll have time to enjoy a leisurely meal and then step out to the viewing area (or enjoy the view from your table) when the show begins. Rideshares When the Lines Are Wild Disney’s free transportation system is a great perk, but it’s not always the most convenient – especially at peak times. If you’ve ever faced a massive line for buses, the Skyliner, or monorails at park closing, you know what we’re talking about. Bus Line at Magic Kingdom Here’s a solution you might want to consider: Take a rideshare like Uber or Lyft. Yes, it’s an added expense, but it can save you so much time and stress, especially if you have tired kids (or adults!) in tow. Rideshare at EPCOT For example, instead of waiting an hour for a bus back to your resort, you can hop into a rideshare and be back in your room in minutes. It’s also a lifesaver if you’re trying to make it to a dining reservation or park opening without cutting it close. Rideshare sign in Disney World While it’s easy to get swept up in budgeting every penny of your Disney trip, these splurges can elevate your vacation from good to unforgettable. Whether it’s skipping a long line, enjoying a stress-free ride back to your hotel, or watching fireworks in style, these are the moments you’ll look back on and smile. 9. Can you believe it? Festival of the Arts is right around the corner; we’re only a few days away! Festival of the Arts We can’t wait to try the different food items at the food stations, check out all the incredible festival entertainment, and see Figment in the Brush With The Masters Scavenger Hunt (aka we get to wander around EPCOT looking for the purple dragon hidden in famous paintings). However, if you’re planning to head to opening weekend of the festival, you’ll want to pack those jackets, because it’s going to be COLD! You heard us right, we indeed said cold, because believe it or not, it does still get chilly in Orlando during the winter months (though during the heat of summer, you’d never think it was possible). According to News 6, temperatures are going to fall below average beginning around today, Monday. You may have noticed the wind was a little more intense than normal yesterday, which was to kick out the fog that was lingering. ©News 6 Now, fortunately, temperatures aren’t going to drop too horribly, but Saturday was a high of 85 degrees, Sunday was 79 degrees, today will be 69 degrees, and by the time we get to Friday, we’re looking at 69-degree weather. This colder weather, though? It’s going to stick around for a little while, as meteorologists aren’t expecting to see 70 and 80-degree temperatures for a little while. ©News 6 This Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll be seeing some much-needed rain, so if you’re heading down this week, be sure to pack those umbrellas and ponchos in your bag. Trust us, the last thing you want is to be stuck in a rainstorm in the middle of the park, where you have to be tucked under cover or inside a store instead of moving to your next experience. 11. Is there anything better than some exciting Disney news? From theme parks to entertainment, the Walt Disney Company tends to cover it all. Monorail at EPCOT This year, the company is going through a major state of change. Bob Iger’s term as CEO is coming to an end, and the parks are expanding in ways we haven’t seen in years. They’re also continuing with celebrations and daily fun, so it can be a lot to keep up with. That’s why each week we like to do a weekly wrap-up of the biggest Disney news from the week, so you don’t miss a thing. From Anaheim to Orlando, Disney has kept the people busy this week! We’ve got some exciting changes coming up soon and some news that no one was expecting. Starting off over at Disneyland, not even Disney could have predicted this news. Monorail Evacuation In case you missed this week’s biggest news, it was reported that a power outage caused crews to help evacuate people off the Monorail in Disneyland. According to CBS, the Anaheim Police Department said about 60 people were trapped on the Monorail attraction for almost 4 hours on January 8th. ©CBS The power outage stalled the attraction near Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. Disneyland said the outage happened in the late afternoon and impacted two trains. Passengers were removed via the fire truck ladder. Disneyland Monorail This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Disney transportation suffer an outage that caused stops, but it certainly doesn’t happen often. No one was injured during the power outage, and Disney reported availability for the monorail the following day. NEWS: 60 People Evacuate Monorail After Power Failure in Disneyland Festival of the Arts Menus Over in Orlando, this week also included full menus for EPCOT’s upcoming Festival of the Arts! The festival that focuses on culinary, visual, and performing arts runs from January 16th to February 23rd, and we couldn’t be MORE excited. 12. One of our favorite things about new months in Disney Springs is that there are NEW items at select locations that you can only grab during that month! Time for new treats! Even though it’s chilly in January in Orlando, we’re not opposed to grabbing some sweet treats at Swirls on the Water, which is one of our favorite spots to grab frozen treats and Dole Whip in the shopping and dining district. There are TWO new treats to snag this month, and we’ve gotta say, they’re all pretty refreshing! First on our list was the Black Vanilla Cone for $6.29, which was full of mango and strawberry flavor that blended perfectly together. It’s a light and refreshing treat perfect for spring, even though we’re still a few months away. The vanilla coating on the waffle cone is somewhat thick when eaten on its own (as it’s the white chocolate coating, not the waffle cone itself), but it was balanced out when eaten with the Dole whip. We highly recommend! Black Vanilla Cone Next up was the Dole Whip Sampler for $8.99, which comes with three flavors: DOLE Whip® Pineapple with Vanilla Soft-serve and Pineapple Wedge, DOLE Whip® Cherry with Chocolate Soft-serve and Morello Cherry Sauce, and DOLE Whip® Strawberry, DOLE Whip® Mango, and Diced Strawberries and Mangoes. Dole Whip Sampler The new flavor here in this sampler is the DOLE Whip® Cherry with Chocolate Soft-serve, and we loved how pleasantly tart the cherry flavor was and how it blends perfectly with the sweetness of the chocolate. It is the perfect Valentine’s treat with that classic flavor pairing, and we couldn’t ask for anything more. If you’re a fan of chocolate and cherries, this is 100% for you! 13. Major changes are coming to Southwest Airlines soon — and fans are NOT happy about the change. ©Southwest Airlines Starting on January 27th, Southwest will require travelers to choose a seat assignment, or one will be assigned for them. This is a stark difference from the airlines’ long-standing “open seating” policy, which essentially allowed anyone to sit in any seat on the plane when boarding. We asked you for your thoughts on the changes, and you did not hold back! What’s Changing? Starting on January 27th, when you fly with Southwest, you need to pick your seat, or it will be assigned for you. If you don’t want to pay anything extra, you’ll find yourself sitting in a Standard Seat. These are standard legroom seats located in the back of the cabin, mostly all behind the emergency exit rows. ©Southwest If you’ve flown with Southwest before, these are likely the most similar to the seats you’re familiar with. But depending on what fare level you choose, it will affect which seat is chosen for you, or what seats you can choose. If you don’t need any extra legroom but you don’t want to be at the back of the aircraft, you’ll want to book a Preferred Seat. These seats will be located in front of the emergency exit rows, aside from the first few rows of seats at the very front of the plane. ©Southwest The final and most expensive option is the Extra Legroom Seat. These seats offer “A roomier experience with more legroom to stretch out, at the front of the cabin and near the exit rows, with up to five additional inches of extra legroom compared to Standard and Preferred seats,” according to Southwest. ©Southwest Southwest has also introduced new fare bundles: Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred, and Choice Extra. You can read more about each of these bundles below. With Basic, you will get the following: A Standard seat (all other seat types cost extra) You will board last, unless you’d like to pay extra for Priority Boarding A Checked bag will cost extra You will get 2X fare on Rapid Rewards points Your flight credits will expire after 6 months (they are non-tranferrable) If you need a refund, you will get a Non-transferable Flight Credit You can change your flight if you pay extra for a fare upgrade There are no fees to cancel Free in-flight entertainment A premium drink and wifi will cost extra ©Southwest With Choice, you will get the following: A Standard seat you select at booking (all other seat types cost extra) General boarding, unless you’d like to pay extra for Priority Boarding A Checked bag will cost extra You will get 6X fare on Rapid Rewards points Your flight credits will expire after 12 months that is transferable Changes to your flight are available, but a fee may apply There are no fees to cancel Free Same-day standby Free Same-day change Free in-flight entertainment A premium drink and wifi will cost extra ©Southwest With Choice Preferred, you will get the following: A Preferred or Standard seat you select at booking (an Extra Legroom seat will cost extra) Early General boarding, unless you’d like to pay extra for Priority Boarding A Checked bag will cost extra You will get 10X fare on Rapid Rewards points Your flight credits will expire after 12 months that is transferable Your flight is refundable Changes to your flight are available, but a fee may apply There are no fees to cancel Free Same-day standby Free Same-day change EarlyBird Check-in is available Free in-flight entertainment Priority Lane and Express Lane A premium drink and wifi will cost extra ©Southwest With Choice Extra, you will get the following: Any seat you’d like on board, booked ahead of your flight Early boarding, but Priority Boarding will cost extra 2 free checked bags You will get 14X fare on Rapid Rewards points Your flight credits will expire after 12 months that is transferable Your flight is refundable Changes to your flight are available, but a fee may apply There are no fees to cancel Free Same-day standby Free Same-day change Priority Boarding, A1-A15 Free in-flight entertainment Priority Lane and Express Lane Premium Drink Wifi will cost extra ©Southwest What People Are Saying We headed over to our Facebook page to find out how people were feeling about these changes, and boy, did our readers have some thoughts. Some people are definitely not fans of the changes, while others find them to be welcome updates. Big Fans Reader Mike said that the changes were a “Long time overdue,” and that there would be “No more families of 20 taking up and reserving large numbers of seats on flights to/from Orlando because one or two in the family get early boarding.” We can get behind that! Southwest Airlines at John Wayne International Airport Valerie said the changes were not “a lot different than most other airlines,” adding that sometimes seating was “chaos” because people were so anxious to get the seating they wanted. With the new changes, hopefully the boarding process will be a bit more organized and won’t leave people trying to rush to find their desired seats on board. Big Haters Overwhelmingly, though, our readers are not big fans of the Southwest changes. Terry said, “Not a fan of all their changes. I loved the seating the way it was and the 2 free checked bags,” adding that their new go-to airline is Breeze Airways, following the announcement from Southwest. Southwest at MCO Harold shared that these policy changes “makes them just like all the rest on baggage fees,” and added, “So why…should Southwest be a favorite airline?” Reader Melissa also had something to say, adding that they “hate the new changes” from the “reasonably priced airline for a quick trip to Disney.” Now, they will “need to plan a little better.” Flying to our next adventure! Whether you’re ready or not, these new Southwest seating changes go into effect on January 27th, so if you’re planning on flying with the airline anytime after that — you’ll want to make sure you plan accordingly. ©Southwest Airlines We’ll be on the lookout for more Southwest Airlines changes you need to know about. 17. We see amazing Disney merchandise practically every day, and that means our wallets are basically always struggling. SO many designs We’re particularly suckers for Loungefly bags, but here’s the thing — they’re not the best for organization. There’s usually only 1-2 zippered pockets, and you just throw everything you need in those and hope for the best. We’ve seen a Loungefly backpack organizer online that we’ve found we really liked, but if we’re being honest…it’s not the cutest. However, our ENTIRE world just changed when we spotted this on the BoxLunch website, because not only is it practical, but it’s also ADORABLE! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Organize Your Backpack The CUTE Way! ©BoxLunch BoxLunch just released something many people on our team will be buying immediately for their Loungefly bags, and therefore never losing their keys, medication, or earbuds in their park bag again — the Disney Princess Icons Patchwork Mini Backpack Organizer is online now, and we couldn’t be more obsessed! ©BoxLunch This has tons of pockets, including a zippered pocket, to fit all your essentials easily, but allows you to keep track of them all at the same time. The patchwork design practically caused hearts to form in our eyes, because…well, just look at it! You’ll have to look closely to find which flowers and patterns are themed to which Disney Princess, which we love. If you don’t mind, we’re heading to buy it ASAP! Grab it right here! We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on BoxLunch’s website, because if they’ve released one pattern, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more patterns released online soon. Stay tuned to DFB! 19. Planning a Walt Disney World vacation in 2026? Where you stay can have a huge impact on how your trip feels, and that’s where Disney World’s Deluxe Resorts come in. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort I have stayed at every resort category level at Disney World, and I’m an avid lover of Disney Deluxe Resorts. Deluxe Resorts are Disney’s highest-tier hotels, offering prime locations, elevated amenities, and exclusive perks you simply can’t get at Value or Moderate resorts. While they come with a higher price tag, they also deliver a more relaxed, flexible, and immersive vacation experience, and for many guests, that difference is worth it. Let’s break down why you should consider staying at a Deluxe resort in 2026! Extended Evening Hours One of the biggest reasons to consider a Deluxe Resort in 2026 is Extended Evening Hours, a perk reserved exclusively for Deluxe Resort guests and select partner hotels. On certain nights, guests can stay in the parks after they officially close, with dramatically lower wait times and far fewer crowds. This perk can be a game-changer, especially at parks like Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, where popular attractions often have long waits during the day. Extended Evening Hours allow you to experience more attractions, soak in the nighttime atmosphere, and get extra value from your park tickets without so much chaos. Animal Kingdom During Extended Evening Hours Deluxe Resorts Feel Like a Vacation, Not Just a Place to Sleep Deluxe Resorts stand out because they truly feel like part of the vacation, not just somewhere to crash after a long park day. From beautifully designed lobbies and themed grounds to quiet lounges and relaxing common areas, these resorts are designed to help you unwind. Instead of rushing back to your room and calling it a night, you can grab a drink, take a peaceful walk, or simply enjoy being in a space that feels calm and immersive. When you are lounging by the pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, it feels like you are transported to a tropical island — not just in Disney World. Polynesian Village Resort pool Pools That Are Destinations At Deluxe Resorts, pools aren’t just places to cool off. Instead, they are huge draws in their own right. Many feature elaborate theming, water slides, hot tubs, and nearby pool bars and dining options. Whether you’re planning a midday break or a full non-park day, Deluxe pools offer a fun, relaxing experience. For example, Stormalong Bay, the pool at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club, is a 3-acre pool with a massive water slide. Slide Location Another major advantage of Deluxe Resorts is their prime location. Many are within walking distance of the parks or offer convenient transportation options like boats or the Skyliner. Being close means less time waiting for buses and more flexibility throughout your day. You can rope drop by taking a walk, take midday breaks without a long commute, and stay late for Extended Evening Hours without dreading the trip back to your hotel. In a busy theme park environment, that convenience can make a world of difference. Walking path from Beach Club to EPCOT Deluxe Food Options You already know this, but here at DFB, we appreciate a good restaurant. Dining is a huge part of the Disney experience, and Deluxe Resorts deliver in a big way. Many are surrounded by multiple dining options, including signature restaurants, lounges, and quick service restaurants. For example, at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you have access to two pool bars, a quick service restaurant, a coffee stand, 3 table service restaurants, and a few lounges. This makes it convenient to grab breakfast before hitting the parks or stopping by the pool bar for a drink. This is different than a value resort, which will just have one quick service cafeteria-style restaurant and a pool bar. ‘Ohana Swan and Dolphin: Deluxe Perks With a Lower Price Point If you want Deluxe perks without paying Disney Deluxe prices, Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resorts deserve a closer look. These resorts are eligible for both Extended Evening Hours and Early Theme Park Entry and are within walking distance of EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They’re often significantly less expensive than Disney-owned Deluxe Resorts, and they offer more on-site restaurants than almost any Disney hotel. Add in the ability to earn and use Marriott Bonvoy points, and Swan and Dolphin become one of the best values on Disney property! The Weirdly Specific but Very Important Reason To Stay at the Swan and Dolphin Hotels in Disney World Swan and Dolphin On-Site Amenities That Make Your Trip Easier Deluxe Resorts offer more than just a place to sleep. They provide a wide range of on-site amenities that help balance out your vacation. There are fitness centers, walking paths, recreation options, and additional places to relax. These resorts offer more to enjoy beyond the parks. That balance can be especially valuable in 2026, when long park days and busy crowds make downtime more important than ever. The beach areas at resorts like Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort are two of my favorite places on property. Fitness Center at Old Key West Is a Deluxe Resort Worth It in 2026? Staying at a Disney World Deluxe Resort in 2026 isn’t just about luxury. Instead, it’s about making your vacation easier, more flexible, and more enjoyable. Between exclusive perks like Extended Evening Hours, unbeatable locations, destination-worthy pools, and standout dining, Deluxe Resorts offer experiences that can elevate your entire trip, making it worth considering for your family this year. 20. We love hearing about new restaurants opening up around the Orlando area, because, hey, while we are DISNEY Food Blog, we also love exploring options outside the park and around the city, so you know where to eat if you’re exploring! Time to try a new spot! We were invited to check out a new spot that just opened up about half an hour from Disney Springs, and when we heard it had a focus on chicken and sauces, we said YES, PLEASE! Saucy! by KFC has just opened in Orlando, and if you like bold flavors, you’ve gotta give it a try. To begin, let’s take a look at the menu here — you’ll find a few different Tendie Combos, some Saucy! Flavor Combos, as well as a Rice Bowl Combo, a Salad Combo, an option to feed a group of four for one price, a Kids Meal, and a dessert called Puffies. The menu! On the backside of the menu, you’ll find their TWELVE different sauces listed, additional Bites and Loaded Bites they have, Drinks, Sandwiches (that are only $3.99!), Late Night snacks, and Party Boxes to feed large groups. The back So, yeah, we were VERY excited! We got to try a little bit of everything on the menu, but our personal favorite was the Saucy Loaded Fries. These are their crinkle cut fries loaded with queso and bits of chicken tenders. This is considered a side, but could definitely be an entree considering how filling it was! The queso was perfectly rich and creamy with great flavor, and while it isn’t overseasoned, it is more like restaurant-style. It paired really well with the chicken and fries, and we’d 100% get it again. Saucy Loaded Fries Here are our quick notes on the other options we got to try as well: Saucy Ranchero Sammie: This was too soggy and fell apart almost immediately, making it very hard to eat. We wouldn’t get it again Saucy Ranchero Sammie Chicken Tendies: These are the standard chicken tenders available, and while they weren’t anything crazy special, pairing them with sauces took them to the next level Chicken Tendies Puffies: These are smaller versions of beignets with three sauces. The powdered sugar didn’t stick super well, which was a bummer since the sweetness was needed. They weren’t the best, but they were a good attempt at beignets! Puffies We also got a chance to try a large majority of the sauces available, but our absolute favorite was the Creole Honey Mustard, thanks to its incredible seasoning that fit the chicken perfectly. It was just sweet enough to bring out the spices in the sauce, which made it a real winner. The other sauces available are as follows: Saucy’s Sauce Chimichurri Ranch Saucy Ranch Smokey Bacon Ranch Salsa Ranchero Caesar Jalapeno Pesto Ranch Thai Sweet ‘n Spicy Korean Sweet Heat Sweet ‘n Saucy BBQ Creole Honey Mustard Sweet Teriyaki Inside the store We look forward to returning and trying more of the sauces and menu offerings as it continues to operate, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all our latest reviews! 21. Have you ever tried to register for one of runDisney’s 5K races, only to find that all the spots fill up faster than you can register? We’ve been there — it’s not fun! runDisney These races are the most accessible for people, as they’re the shortest distance, and allow people just getting into running to enter the races gradually. This also means that they’re some of the most popular, and registration fills up even faster for these than for other races. To work on fixing this issue, Disney has just announced something very exciting — there will now be more race availability for the 5Ks! On the official runDisney Instagram, it was announced that “there will be more registration availability for 5K races across all four Walt Disney World race weekends, beginning with the 2026 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend!” ©runDisney While this is great news for runners looking to get into the racers, a lot of Disney fans in the comments brought up some very valid concerns. User @vrycdngrrl commented, “Although this would be amazing for more runners to experience. It is already very congested, very difficult to keep pace when you’re running, and the 5-10K races and the balloon ladies are right on your heel, which makes it even more difficult with the congestion/safety time to stop from. No time to stop for meet and greets which is supposed to be half the experience and overall maybe there needs to [be] more race days to allow more time on course for those who want it.” Mickey at the post-race photo spot Other users were asking Disney if there would be an increased field size to help with the addition of more people, while others were asking if a POT would be required, which is “proof of time.” This basically would give Disney a way to ensure the people signing up for these races can make it in the time Disney allows. User @_jackiemh_ commented, “Can we also require course etiquette be taken or something? The courses are becoming unsafe with increased uneducated runners.” runDisney For those who may not know, when running in any race, walkers are supposed to stay to the right to allow those running the race to stay on the left. The faster you’re going, the more to the left you can inch. If inexperienced runners are walking on the left side of the course, this causes safety issues and can really mess up people’s times and pace. ©runDisney Many people in the comments love the idea of making it more accessible, but the races are already packed, meaning that character lines are increasingly long (and some have mentioned that they’re noticing fewer characters overall, which also increases lines), and adding hundreds more racers will only make this worse. We’re really hoping Disney will announce additional details to explain how they’re going to keep people safe while running the race. More Recent runDisney News! 22. Updates all around Disney World have begun. Disney is bringing us new lands, new attractions, new themes at existing attractions, and so much more. We’re so excited for what the upcoming years have in store for us at the Disney World parks! Over the past couple of years, Disney has made so many announcements regarding these changes, but there was one that we were particularly happy to hear. Frozen Ever After While the bulk of the changes are happening at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios, EPCOT cannot be left out. We haven’t forgotten about the exciting announcement regarding problem-solving changes headed to an EPCOT ride that is in dire need of them. The EPCOT Frozen Ever After ride will close on January 26th, so the original animatronics can get these updates. Luckily, it’s expected to be a relatively short closure since this is a really popular ride! When it’s over, there will no longer be scary animatronic faces, and we’re VERY excited about that. It will be great to have a bit of the technology from Hong Kong here at EPCOT. In the meantime, we’re keeping a close eye on all the other changes and updates happening at Disney World, so keep following DFB for all the latest news! 24. We’ve got some REALLY sad news out of Disneyland Resort, especially for those who are really big fans of a certain menu item available at Award Wieners! Film Strip Fries with Beer Cheese Award Wieners is 100% the place to go in Disney California Adventure if you’re looking for a hot dog, or the iconic Filmstrip Fries. These are basically regular fries, but they’re in a very unique shape — they’re thick and curled a bit, hence the name “film strip.” We’ve got horrible news, though — filmstrip fries are currently OFF the menu and not being served! When we took a look at the Award Wieners menu recently, we noticed that the iconic Filmstrip Fries were no longer listed. Below is a photo of the menu previously… Award Wieners Menu …and here’s what’s currently listed online — no Filmstrip Fries, only regular fries! What is happening?! ©Disney We headed straight to Award Wieners when we stepped into the park and asked a Cast Member if they were really gone, to see if we could get more information. To our dismay, we were told that yes, the Filmstrip Fries are currently off the menu, and they weren’t sure if or when they’d be back. It seems this change was made pretty suddenly, and there wasn’t much fanfare about it. But it’s a big deal to us! Award Wieners Filmstrip Fries Disney, listen to us right now — we are BEGGING for you to bring these back. To some people, the type of fry may not be important, but these are ICONIC. They’re delicious, unique, and regular fries just don’t give us the same Award Wieners feeling. We’re crossing our fingers that the change is only temporary and may be due to an issue with stock, but if these don’t come back, we’ll be devastated. 25. Theme parks are constantly changing, but some updates still hit a little harder than others. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith Several major attractions and even an entire park have now confirmed permanent closures in 2026, and some of them are absolute icons. Whether you are planning one last farewell visit or just trying to stay ahead of the changes, here is what you need to know before these experiences are gone for good. DINOSAUR Permanently Closes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom DINOSAUR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom officially closes on February 2nd, 2026, which means February 1st, 2026, will be your final chance to ride. This is a big one for longtime Disney fans who grew up braving the dark, chaotic journey back to the age of dinosaurs. Dinosaur This closure is part of Disney’s massive transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into a brand new area themed to Tropical Americas, also known as Pueblo Esperanza. Several parts of DinoLand are already gone, including TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, The Boneyard, and the area’s snack stands. DINOSAUR has been the final holdout, and once it closes, DinoLand as we know it will officially be history. DINOSAUR If you want one last encounter with an asteroid and a very angry Carnotaurus, now is the time to plan that ride. Read all about the new Tropical Americas: Pueblo Esperanza land here! Restaurantosaurus Also Closes in 2026 Restaurantosaurus will also permanently close on February 2nd, 2026, with its final day of operation landing on February 1st, 2026. This quirky quick-service restaurant has been a go-to for families looking for air conditioning, burgers, and dinosaur themed jokes hidden throughout the space. Restaurantosaurus Much like DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus is closing to make way for the Tropical Americas expansion. While it may not be the most talked-about restaurant at Disney World, it has been a reliable stop for refueling in Animal Kingdom for years. If this has been one of your regular lunch spots, you may want to rustle up one final meal before construction fully takes over the area. Restaurantosaurus Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Closes for Retheme Disney has also confirmed that Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith in Disney’s Hollywood Studios will permanently close on March 2nd, 2026. The final day to ride will be March 1st, 2026. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster The good news is that this attraction is not disappearing forever. Instead, Disney is transforming it into a brand new Muppets-themed roller coaster that is set to open in summer 2026. The storyline will center on the Electric Mayhem band headlining their biggest concert ever, with riders helping them make it to the show on time. ©Disney The retheme will include updates to G Force Records, a revamped exterior featuring Electric Mayhem inspired details, and a brand new Muppet animatronic that Disney says will be a first of its kind. While it is still sad to say goodbye to the Aerosmith version, we are very curious to see how the Muppets shake things up. Looking for details on the new Muppets ride? We have them all here! Wild Waves Theme and Water Park Announces Final Season Outside of Disney, Wild Waves Theme and Water Park in Washington has announced that its 2026 season will be its last. The park, which has been operating since 1977, will open for the season on May 23rd, 2026, and close permanently on November 1st, 2026. @wildwavespark on Instagram According to park leadership, financial challenges following the pandemic made it impossible to continue operations long-term. Guests who visit in 2026 will still get the full experience, including summer water attractions, thrill rides, and Fright Fest in October. The park also plans to celebrate its final year with special events and promotions focused on nostalgia and family memories. @wildwavespark on Instagram While plans for the land are still in early stages, the owners have shared that future development aims to benefit the surrounding community while respecting the emotional connection many locals have with the park. @wildwavespark on Instagram Change is part of what keeps theme parks evolving, but that doesn’t mean saying goodbye is ever easy. These confirmed closures in 2026 mark the end of some truly memorable experiences, whether that means one last race through the past with DINOSAUR, a final rock out on Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, or a farewell season at a hometown park that’s meant so much to local families. If any of these spots are on your must-do list, now’s the time to start planning those final visits and soaking up every last moment before the gates close for good.
