You can almost smell the aroma of warmed baked treats in the air – it’s National Gingerbread Day! We’ve got gingerbread items galore this year on both coasts – from gingerbread apples and cookies to fantastical displays in our parks and resorts. No matter where you’re celebrating the holiday season, you’ll be able to find some delicious gingerbread offerings at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Be sure to try these tasty treats, available throughout the holiday season, before they’re gone! At Walt Disney World Resort, you’ll find some amazing gingerbread displays such as the annual gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This year marks the 19th anniversary of this life-size holiday house, located in the lobby of the resort. Here, you can even learn how to decorate a gingerbread house yourself with daily demos starting Dec. 1. You can also find freshly baked items such as gingerbread cookies, shingles, ornaments, cookie bags and more! In addition, you’ll find even more gingerbread displays at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Epcot and Disney Springs. For more details, take a look at my recent blog post where I tell you everything you need to know about this year’s holiday displays. During Flurry of Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can find gingerbread pops and a special “Prep and Landing”-themed gingerbread cupcake throughout the park. At the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, stop by the Yukon Holiday Kitchen in Canada to try the Maple Bûche de Nöel, a maple mousse rolled in gingerbread chiffon cake with cranberry sauce and pecan crumble. Or travel to France where you’ll find the Glace au Pain d’Epices at L’Artisan des Glaces – gingerbread ice cream with gingerbread pieces. For a traditional gingerbread cookie, you’ll find them at the new Cookie Nook Holiday Kitchen in the Odyssey building. And for a warm drink, why not get a gingerbread chai at Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company in Canada? This hot, creamy spiced chai tea is flavored with gingerbread syrup and Irish cream and comes topped with whipped cream. Over at Disneyland Resort, if you’re visiting Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, there will be a gingerbread replica of the resort located in the lobby, as well as a cart where you’ll find some tasty treats like gingerbread man cookies and peppermint hot chocolate. Another phenomenal display that can be found at Disneyland Park through early January 2018 is the Haunted Mansion Holiday gingerbread house. You can see this spooky display, inspired by “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” in the ballroom of the Haunted Mansion. This fanciful creation features Oogie Boogie and is over six feet tall! For more details and fun facts, read our recent blog post. If you’re looking for some tasty gingerbread treats at Disneyland Resort, then you won’t have to look far! At any candy location throughout the resort, you’ll find some yummy crispy treats and candy apples, all coated in gingerbread-flavored sugar and decorated with icing. You can also find gingerbread man cookies at Jolly Holiday Bakery Café, Market House, Red Rose Taverne, The Golden Horseshoe and Stage Door Café in Disneyland Park. Disney California Adventure park will have them at various carts throughout the park, Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café, Pacific Wharf Café and Pacific Wharf Coffee Cart. And at the Disneyland Resort Hotels, you’ll find them at The Coffee House, Hearthstone Lounge, and Surfside Lounge. View the full article

The SpectacuLAB, a brand-new exciting show that opened at Innoventions at Epcot this week, is bringing out the scientist in guests of all ages. Presented by worldwide technology company Murata, The SpectacuLAB features interactive experiments and fun ways to get guests intrigued about the exciting world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. Two actual scientists run each show, with commentary and fun provided by our “intern” Frankie who is learning about science on his first day of training. Young guests can volunteer to participate in different experiments which showcase the connection between science and technology – along with other STEM concepts. They learn about force while watching the scientists lay on a bed of nails, and about sound wave technology by testing the latest in ultrasonic drums – which can tell how far away Frankie is from them through ultrasonic sound waves. The real, live scientists are provided by Science from Scientists, a non-profit organization dedicated to exciting kids about the STEM fields through thrilling, informative and engaging training by practicing scientists. I got to watch a preview of the show this week and it was really fun! Frankie and team will be conducting their experiments multiple times throughout the day at Epcot Innoventions. Earlier this month, actor Jonathan Groff stopped by Walt Disney World Resort to share a visit – and a warm hug – with his pal, Olaf. Jonathan and the lovable snowman star in “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” a featurette that’s set to screen before Disney Pixar’s “Coco,” in theaters starting November 22. In this latest tale from Arendelle, royal sisters Anna and Elsa realize that unlike other families, they don’t have any holiday traditions. Olaf and Sven then embark on a hilarious journey throughout the town to find the perfect holiday traditions Anna and Elsa will love. Here at the Walt Disney World Resort, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” has already inspired the addition of a new finale for the existing “For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new finale, which will run throughout the holiday season, features Olaf and three songs from the new featurette. View the full article

Spring is still a ways off, but if you like to plan ahead for Major League Baseball spring training, I’ve got the Atlanta Braves 2018 spring training schedule that is being announced today and there are some marquee games you definitely don’t want to miss. For starters, the World Series champion Houston Astros will play the Braves this spring at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort on March 8. For some of the players it will be a return visit after celebrating their first-ever World Series title here with a parade at Magic Kingdom Park earlier this month. Other can’t-miss games include clashes with the New York Yankees (March 9 and 24), Washington Nationals (February 26 and March 1), which both reached the postseason this past season. In all, the Braves will play 18 home games at Disney, its spring training home since 1997. Disney character appearances and special moments such as kids running the bases after every game are just some of the many in-game entertainment opportunities that make Braves spring training at Disney a grand slam. Spring training game tickets go on sale Dec. 11 at www.espnwwos.com/braves, through Ticketmaster outlets 800-745-3000 and at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Box Office. For more information, please visit espnwwos.com/braves. View the full article

Raising your hand and waving at someone seems like such a simple gesture but it is having an immense impact on a group of young people in need in Iowa. The waving is part of a new tradition at the University of Iowa’s home football games that is inspiring the patients at a nearby hospital. Because of this simple but moving gesture, Disney Sports is proud to announce it is presenting the Iowa football program with its coveted Disney Sports Spirit Award, which annually goes to the sport’s most inspirational figure. Here’s how the Iowa football program is lifting the spirits of sick children every week this season. At the end of the first quarter of every home game, their Kinnick Stadium announcer urges all of the fans inside the stadium to turn and wave to the young patients at the children’s hospital that’s next door to the stadium. Even the visiting team and the referees join in on the wave. As a result of that simple gesture, the young patients, their little noses often pressed again the windows of the hospital overlooking the stadium, are reportedly more optimistic, more hopeful. Check out this ESPN feature story on the “Kinnick Wave” and how it is changing lives every Saturday afternoon this season. Be sure to watch The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 7 on ESPN when the Disney Sports Spirit Award gets presented to the Iowa football program. View the full article

In our Disney Doodles blog series, our team of Disney artists imagine what a character would do or see first if they had the chance to visit Walt Disney World Resort.
