The Tambu Lounge in Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort is a well-loved spot. Known for cocktails like the Lapu Lapu (served in a pineapple) and the Backscratcher as well as single servings of ‘Ohana’s famous Bread Pudding, it’s not a Disney vacation for many guests without a stop at this little cove. Tambu Lounge But change is coming to Tambu Lounge. According to Tikiman’s Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages on Facebook, Tambu will close after the 4th of July and will remain closed for about two months. This temporary closure will result in an expansion to the lounge to add another well for a barterer, and also add a side station for a cocktail server. Lapu Lapu at the Tambu Lounge During the closure, a temporary bar will be set up to serve ‘Ohana and walk-up guests, but no bar seating will be available. Other options for grabbing a drink at the Polynesian include the Barefoot Pool Bar, the Oasis Bar & Grill, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. Everyone I know – cast members, guests and, of course, Disney Parks Blog readers – are counting down the days until Toy Story Land opens at Walt Disney World Resort. We just can’t wait to #PlayBig in this exciting new area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios! And speaking of “playing big,” even the animal residents at Rafiki’s Planet Watch got in on the excitement earlier this week when the Pixar Ball stopped by the park for some enrichment playtime. Enrichment is just one of the tools used to provide excellent care for our animals. Animal care experts enrich animal habitats with the intention of encouraging behaviors like bat, chase, kick, nudge, paw, sniff and generally having a great time. Animal care experts also rely on positive training methods that encourage animals to participate in their daily health care and challenge them to stay mentally active. One thing I love about the musical talent found at the Disneyland Resort is that it’s always unique. The seven-piece band known as The Pixarmonic Orchestra is certainly no exception! Here to celebrate Pixar Fest, The Pixarmonic Orchestra (presented by TripleDent Gum from the Pixar film “Inside Out,” of course!) performs an array of musical styles in a fun and upbeat fashion that fits the Pixar tunes perfectly. The group performs its repertoire of songs using traditional instruments, as well as unconventional music makers such as cowbells, kazoos, duck calls, sirens and slide whistles. Even their costumes are zany! Bold plaid patterns are blended with a mid-century modern style, which suits their music style perfectly. Check out video below! Just like Dory in “Finding Nemo,” my memory is a bit challenged. In many ways, it is the bane of my existence and a blessing in others. For example, my sister Geri often asks if I remember details from our trip to Europe…”you know, that little café in Florence we loved” or “the time we saw the Champs-Élysées.” I go blank. Nope. Nothing in the memory banks. On the other hand, I can watch a movie a thousand times and never remember the ending. Does that sound like someone (or some fish) we know and love? Yes, it’s true, I’m Dory’s twin (minus the fins and blue scales). This month marks the 15th anniversary of meeting our favorite fish family in “Finding Nemo.” At the Walt Disney World Resort, we have a few guest offerings inspired by the film – including the wonderfully colorful “Finding Nemo – The Musical” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and The Seas With Nemo & Friends at Epcot. We’ve known for some time that the immersive Star Wars Resort is going to be — according to Disney — “seamlessly connected” to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios, which is slated to open in late fall 2019. DinoLand, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is playing host to Donald’s Dino-Bash!, a dinosaur-themed party that celebrates Donald Duck’s discovery that his bird ancestors were actually dinosaurs. As a part of the celebration, DinoLand, U.S.A. features colorful new décor and playful character greetings with rarely seen pals like Scrooge McDuck, Launchpad McQuack and more. If you’ve been to the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort recently, you may have noticed the Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria has been undergoing some exciting changes – and we’re happy to announce that the first phase of these renovations is complete! Located on the ground level, a new modern patio offers guests a place to sit back, relax, and enjoy a delicious dish or beverage on a warm summer day. The patio has a new outside bar, as well as additional seating for al fresco dining and is just steps away from the theme park esplanade. In addition, this classic Neapolitan eatery has also recently added some tasty new items to the menu just in time for summer! New additions include Trofie, Gnocchetti, Barramundi Alla Livornese, five new gourmet pizzas, and some new, delightfully refreshing mocktails. Joining an array of delicious pastas, the Trofie and Gnocchetti are dishes that will delight your taste buds. The Trofie comes with twisted pasta, shrimp, basil pesto, green beans, and fresh tomatoes; while the Gnoccheti consists of hand-made potato dumplings, fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, and Parmesan cheese. You can also enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean Sea with the Barramundi Alla Livornese. This sea bass dish comes with spinach, tomato, capers, olives, garlic, onions, and chili flakes. Using Caputo flour imported from Naples, you’ll find several new pizzas on the menu, all featuring gourmet toppings and authentic Italian flavors. If you’re looking for vegetarian options, the Marinara e Capperi or the Melanzane pizzas are the way to go. Both are made with tomato sauce and topped with fresh, vegetarian ingredients. The Marinara e Capperi is topped with capers, garlic, and oregano, and the Melanzane is topped with mozzarella, fried eggplant, and basil. For a little more protein, there are two pizzas made with tomato sauce and ham. The Porchetta pizza is made topped with Porchetta ham and mozzarella, and the Capricciosa is topped with mozzarella, roasted red peppers, Parma ham, and green olives. There’s also a Pesto e Gamberi pizza made with pesto sauce and topped with mozzarella, shrimp, and fresh tomatoes. Of course, a warm meal just isn’t complete without a refreshing beverage. Naples has a few new non-alcoholic mocktails to the menu like the The Lunch Punch consists of lemon juice, pomegranate juice, and apple juice; the Capri Holiday includes orange juice, lemonade, blood orange syrup and amaretto syrup, and the signature Naples Blush has pomegranate juice, blood orange juice, lemon juice, and sparkling soda. But that’s not all! There’s even more in store for this modern southern Italy-inspired eatery. Set to be completed later this year are renovations to the upstairs outdoor area and interior space. The restaurant will have a modern, European feel featuring clean lines and bold Italian-inspired patterns. This refurbishment is a part of the larger, promenade-wide transformation at Downtown Disney with multiple new venues and refurbishments other dining and retail locations. While these renovations are underway, Downtown Disney remains open to guests and a hot spot for hanging out with friends and family. Have you ever wanted to see how an Audio-Animatronics figure was created for a Disney Park? Well, today you’re in luck. We’re continuing to celebrate the first anniversary of Pandora – The World of Avatar by sharing an amazing behind-the-scenes look at how our Imagineers designed the most advanced Audio-Animatronics figure in Imagineering history – the Shaman of Songs. Guests can encounter the Shaman of Songs inside Na’vi River Journey, after they board a boat and are whisked away on an immersive journey deep into a bioluminescent rainforest on Pandora. There, the Shaman of Songs sits, sending positive energy out into the forest through the power of her movements and music. But bringing her to life required the Imagineering/LEI project team to not only apply the latest technologies in robotics, but also develop an estimated 20 new technologies to bring this figure to life. The goal was to make the figure’s tech as hidden as possible, to make the shaman as lifelike as possible. Go behind the scenes as the Shaman of Songs is created in the video above. Starting last week, Disneyland Annual Passholders were able to access Mobile Order at Counter Service locations all over Disneyland Resort. But now, all guests visiting Disneyland are able to utilize the service! Using Mobile Order at Award Wieners in Disney California Adventure As a refresher, Mobile Order is a process available via the Disneyland app which allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for their food at participating Counter Service restaurants, thereby avoiding time spent in line!
