Have you ever wanted to see how an Audio-Animatronics figure was created for a Disney Park? Well, today you’re in luck. We’re continuing to celebrate the first anniversary of Pandora – The World of Avatar by sharing an amazing behind-the-scenes look at how our Imagineers designed the most advanced Audio-Animatronics figure in Imagineering history – the Shaman of Songs. Guests can encounter the Shaman of Songs inside Na’vi River Journey, after they board a boat and are whisked away on an immersive journey deep into a bioluminescent rainforest on Pandora. There, the Shaman of Songs sits, sending positive energy out into the forest through the power of her movements and music. But bringing her to life required the Imagineering/LEI project team to not only apply the latest technologies in robotics, but also develop an estimated 20 new technologies to bring this figure to life. The goal was to make the figure’s tech as hidden as possible, to make the shaman as lifelike as possible. Go behind the scenes as the Shaman of Songs is created in the video above. Don’t forget to visit the Disney Parks Blog each day this week for another look at Pandora – The World of Avatar. View the full article

Welcome to the “new” Rix Sports Bar & Grill in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort! Learn About: Rix Sports Bar & Grill Disney World Restaurants So, why is the “new” in quotes, you may ask? Well, that’s because for a long time, this particular space in Coronado Springs operated as Rix Lounge, providing guests and convention attendees at the Resort a place to drink and… well, lounge. The name changed to Rix Sports Bar & Grill a few months ago. However, it’s only recently that the location has transitioned to a full Table Service Restaurant serving both lunch and dinner, as well as serving up a place to catch a game or two. And it makes sense. You see, Coronado Springs Resort is in the midst of a pretty major transition which — among other changes — will ultimately add 500 rooms to the Resort by way of a brand new tower (which will also feature rooftop dining). And with room for MANY more guests on the way, more dining options will be required, too. So we’re here to check out the changes while trying out lunch at Rix Sports Bar & Grill! Atmosphere If you’ve ever visited Rix Lounge, you’ll recognize the unique entrance, which remains the same tall structure, but with a change. Rix Sports Bar & Grill It now says Rix Sports Bar & Grill, of course! Rix Sports Bar & Grill The spot’s former couches and chairs have almost entirely been replaced by simple tables and chairs. Rix Sports Bar & Grill Rix Sports Bar & Grill Seating has even been expanded beyond the bar into an area that previously provided a few tables for Cafe Rix, the Resort’s grab-and-go location. And while the seats may look pretty empty now, I’m guessing this will change when those 500 new rooms open up next year (or when football season starts this fall). Rix Sports Bar & Grill expanded seating And you’ve probably noticed the primary additions in the photos above: TELEVISIONS. Large television at the bar Televisions in the corner Lots and lots and lots of them! So you know there will be plenty of opportunities to catch whatever game — or games! — you’re hoping to! Television right behind you if you’re seated at the bar Aside from the bar and the entryway, elements of the ol’ lounge can still be spotted in the cool light fixtures. Rix lighting Rix lighting Otherwise, though, the focus is really on your choices for sports watching. The other focus, of course, is food! Eats What types of food spring to mind when you hear the words “sports bar and grill”? Probably things like wings, nachos, sliders, burgers and such, right? Appetizer Menu Yep, they’re all here. But there’s a bit more in store with a closer look. Items like Ale-battered Shrimp and Veggie Lettuce Wraps also show up under the Appetizers on the menu picture above. The rest of the menu is a blend of Sandwiches, Soups, and Salads featuring Turkey and Brie, Rix Mahi Reuben, and a Queso Fundido Burger. Salads and Sandwich menu Short Rib Chili makes an appearance in the Soups (with more sandwiches listed besides). Soup and Sandwiches menu Full Entrees are served during both lunch and dinner. Entree Menu And as for the “bar” in Rix Sports Bar & Grill… Beer and Cider Menu Cocktail Menu Cocktail Menu Wine Menu We chose to try the Beer Flight. While it’s not listed on the menu above, we learned about it from a tabletop sign. Beer Flight sign Our Flight included 3 Daughters Floating Dock IPA, Big Top Conch Republic Key Lime, Dukes Cold Nose Brown Ale, and Caribe Blood Orange Cider by Florida Beer Co. Beer Flight Though offerings may certainly change, I would assume that Florida-brewed beverages will continue to be featured in the Flight just as they are in the bar’s Draft Selections. Beer Flight But you need a little something to go with your brew, naturally. And you’ve probably guessed that I couldn’t resist those Watchos. Watchos and Beer Flight These waffle-fry-nachos are topped with queso blanco, bacon, and scallions… and it’s a pretty heaping helping! Watchos Sure, it’s your typical sports bar grub, but that’s why we’re here, right? Plus the game is upped (pun totally intended) by the tasty seasoning on the fries, the substantial amount of thick-cut bacon chunks, and, of course, the RIVER of queso blanco both on top of and under the fries. Queso Blanco River And I do mean river, because these fries are swimming in it!! Considering we’re at a sports bar, this dish is exactly what it needs to be — tasty, messy, shareable, and totally addictive. But if that’s just not enough cheese for ya… check out the Queso Fundido Burger. Queso Fundido Burger More of that tasty queso is poured on top of a burger patty, which is also topped with chunks of mildly spicy chorizo sausage, caramelized onions and peppers, and even more cheese (Monterey Jack). Queso Fundido Burger It’s typically served with waffle fries, but since we’d had those with the Watchos, we went with the one of the other options: Sweet Potato Fries. (You may also choose a Green Apple Cabbage Slaw or Beet and Goat Cheese Salad.) Queso Fundido Burger with Sweet Potato Fries Forgive me, but I just couldn’t stop taking pictures of ALL. THE. CHEESE. Queso Fundido Burger toppings But what I also liked about it was the way the savory cheese and chorizo was given a hint of sweetness from the caramelized onions. (Those Sweet Potato Fries were an enjoyable complement, too.) The juicy toppings made up for some of the flavor which was lacking in the patty itself, which was overdone compared with our medium request. Queso Fundido Burger This might be as good a time as any to add a note about service. Though our server was very friendly and kind, our meal took a little longer than we anticipated due to a rather relaxed pace. On the other hand, it’s somewhat nice to know that lingering is welcome in a sports bar, since I’m sure many guests will want to stay for full games. Back to that burger, though… it was totally tasty, and I would get it again. For one last item, we also tried the Short Rib Chili. Short Rib Chili Now, I know we’re not entering what you might think of as chili-eating season, with temps beginning to soar in Central Florida as of late. Short Rib Chili But this is one tasty bowl. Completely packed with shredded beef, it also has a decent kick of spice to it. Here’s just a few bites on the plate so you can get an idea of the rich consistency. Short Rib Chili If your visit to Coronado Springs Resort is in the cooler months, this is the dish to get if you have plans to kick back and watch a football game at Rix. Speaking of… it really is nice to have another sports-watching location in Disney World. The BoardWalk’s ESPN Club is lots of fun. But it also gets completely packed — especially for big game weekends. Coronado Springs may not be the most accessible place in Disney World depending on where you’re staying, but I’m all for more options for the sports fan in Disney World. Which leads me to my final thoughts… Nosh or Not? You may want to stop by Rix Sports Bar & Grill if: You want to do some serious game viewing accompanied by some tasty grub or drinks. You’re a guest at Coronado Springs Resort and want to take advantage of the fact that there’s now more Table Service options available. You LOOOOVE some queso blanco (like me!) . You may want to pass on Rix Sports Bar & Grill if: You’d prefer a larger menu of offerings. You’d rather not be surrounded by TVs if they don’t serve a purpose in your visit. Coronado Springs Resort is simply too far out of your way to make sense in your vacation plans. Overall Hooray!! The conversion of Rix to a full Table Service location is a pretty smart move when you consider all the changes coming to Coronado Springs Resort. But not only because the Resort will simply require more Table Service options upon the expansion; it’s also a pretty nice boon for guests visiting the Resort in the here and now. Sure, it’s not serving the fanciest food on property, but it doesn’t need to be. The menu totally fits the bill for the intended new vibe for Rix — the food is fun and tasty, and a great companion for game day viewing (or if you’re just taking a break from the parks). LOTS of changes are in store (and some are already in progress) at Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort. If you tuned into the DFB last week, you may have seen the in-progress pics of the construction of the tower that will add 500 rooms to the already expansive Resort. Artist’s Rendering of the New Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort © Disney We know that the addition of the tower will also deliver a rooftop dining experience to the Resort, complete with fireworks viewing! And we’re also intrigued by the waterfront (or perhaps better said as on-the-water) dining option on the way, though less is known about it. Coronado Springs “A Resort Re-Imagined” So when we were checking out the updated Rix Sports Bar & Grill (which has recently transitioned into a full Table Service option for the Resort), we also took another peek at a poster displaying what the dining spot — slated to open in Summer 2019 — will look like in the day… Coronado Springs Waterfront Restaurant … and by night! Coronado Springs Waterfront Restaurant Though at the moment, its future home — smack dab on Lago Dorado — simply looks like this. Construction on Lago Dorado Construction on Lago Dorado Construction on Lago Dorado But it’s just one more step along the way as Coronado Springs becomes — as the sign says — “A Resort Re-Imagined”! We’re all aware that today is Memorial Day, but did you know that it’s also National Hamburger Day? As the unofficial start of summer is upon us, it feels like the right time to put one of the season’s most popular indulgences in the spotlight. With countless burger options available throughout Walt Disney World Resort, I wanted to share a trio of my favorites. In my humble culinary opinion, below are three of the most incredible burgers available at Disney Springs: The BBQ Bacon Burger, available at House of Blues Restaurant & Bar – Served with fries, this standout burger is topped with cheddar cheese, apple-wood smoked bacon, crispy jalapenos, sautéed bourbon onions and Memphis BBQ sauce. My friend Maggie, the Marketing and Promotions Manager for House of Blues, summed it up by sharing, “It’s soooooo good.” She’s right – the mix of flavors blends together seamlessly and every bite is as tasty as the one before. The Edison Burger, available at The Edison – This was the very first item I tried at The Edison and it set the stage for the rest of the menu. A signature dish for the venue, this 10-ounce beef patty blends sirloin, short rib and brisket and is topped with sharp cheddar, crispy onion rings and a layer of smoked bacon. Garnished with house-made pickles, in-season tomatoes fresh from local Florida farmers, and a special sauce, this one is packed full of flavor. Plus, it comes with a side of hand-cut Electri-fries. Pro Tip: Ask for extra napkins; chances are you’ll need them! The Southern Burger, available at D-Luxe Burger – It’s so hard to pick at #1 favorite, but if I had to, this burger would be it. As a Georgia girl, anything that features a perfectly cooked fried green tomato and Pimento cheese gets my vote. Add lettuce, onion and bacon to the signature blend beef patty and it’s easy to see how this continues to be one of the location’s best sellers. Feeling ambitious? Pair it with the Smoked Bourbon Gelato Shake, always on the menu but currently being featured as part of Discover Bourbon at Disney Springs, taking place through Father’s Day. Which Disney Springs burger do you wish you were enjoying today? Share in the comments below – I’d love to know! View the full article

Let’s be honest, it has been an extremely rainy May across the country. However, a little rain cannot stop the magic of a Disney vacation. With helpful tips from the Disney Parks Moms Panelists and a poncho of your liking, even the rainiest of days at Walt Disney World Resort can be the best days ever. Tabitha will tell you, some of her family’s best Disney days have been spent in the rain. “The crowds are sometimes lower because of the weather, but we just bring our ponchos (these are also available for purchase in the theme parks) and continue enjoying our adventure. And I’m happy to report that the rain doesn’t limit much activity at ‘The Most Magical Place on Earth.’” Panelists also like to remind Guests that all four theme parks do have indoor attractions. When asked about the weather and its effect on the parks, Lindsey P. gave a great list of attractions you can enjoy inside at Magic Kingdom Park. A few of her favorites include “it’s a small world,” Peter Pan’s Flight and Haunted Mansion. While guests can enjoy many indoor attractions, a little one’s stroller must stay outside. For this reason, Missy recommends packing a rain cover for your stroller, or at least covering it with a poncho. “I will never forget the time we came out of our dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table to find that our two double strollers were completely soaked. Oops!” That is one mistake she has never made again. A day filled with showers is also a great time to try a new experience, like taking your princess to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Ashley P. recommends either location at Disney Springs or Magic Kingdom Park. This magical transformation is one your princess, and you, will never forget. For more helpful tips like making the most of a rainy day at the Walt Disney World Resort, be sure to visit DisneyParksMomsPanel.com for a personalized response from our knowledgeable panel. My mom’s all-time favorite Disney attraction is The Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom Park. She’s loved this jolly bunch of bears and their knee-slapping country music show for years. So it was my great pleasure to open today’s Disney Doodle, which focuses on our family’s favorite bunch of bears. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what the Country Bears would do here at the Walt Disney World Resort on their day off. In the design, she envisions them cooling off at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. “The Country Bears are always looking for new ways to relax and have a good time,” she said. “So it’s easy to imagine them spending a lazy afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon!” View the full article

When Walt Disney World visitors go to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next year, they’ll be able to visit the village of Black Spire Outpost via Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. That’s the latest incremental news about the under-construction land. Last week, Walt Disney Co. announced that the Star... View the full article

Just last week, the opening seasons were officially confirmed for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (Summer 2019) and Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World (late Fall 2019). Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge And tonight in Hollywood Studios, guests at the Star Wars: Galactic Nights event were treated to a panel discussion featuring Walt Disney Imagineers who are working hard behind the scenes (down to visiting film sets for inspiration) to make the planet of Batuu a reality for all of us traveling to Disney World’s Star Wars Land — Galaxy’s Edge — starting next year! Entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (and a busy construction scene behind) The excitement poured out over Twitter and over on Disney Parks Blog, with attendees sharing a few details about what we can expect in the new Land on both coasts. For instance, life-sized AT-ATs (along with life sized ships) will be found on Black Spire Outpost. AT-AT What, exactly is Black Spire Outpost? THAT’S the village that we will all be able to set foot on in Batuu! “This is the location where your adventure will begin…” Black Spire Outpost on Batuu ©Disney/Lucasfilm Disney has also shared that Black Spire Outpost is the largest settlement on Batuu, and is an “infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space.” What were once towering trees now stand as spires comprised of the petrified remains… hence, the Black Spire Outpost. Galaxy’s Edge Concept Art ©Disney/Lucasfilm At the event, Imagineers also promised the presence of Nien Nunb to feature in Galaxy’s Edge. And if YOU have a certain favorite creature from the Star Wars universe, you might be able to purchase one to take home with you from the Creature Stall… where Star Wars creatures come to life! This will be in addition to the Toydarian we learned about previously, who will sell handcrafted toys made by local artisans in the village. Toydarian Wares ©Disney Of course, you can pick up plenty of Galaxy’s Edge merch in Hollywood Studios right now (see more of it here!)… Galaxy’s Edge Tee Shirt Galaxy’s Edge Print Galaxy’s Edge Tumblers Every detail we’re seeing and learning makes Batuu seem all the more real right now. And even though we won’t be able to set foot on this new planet in the Star Wars universe until next year, I’m pretty pumped by all the fun things we’re learning along the way! And if you are, too, you’ll want to stick with us to hear all the details as we get closer and closer to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Find out all there is to know so far about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge right here! Want to stay informed of ALL the Disney News?? Sign Up for the Disney Food Blog Newsletter and don’t miss a thing! For those of you who attended one of tonight’s panel discussions at Star Wars: Galactic Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you were among the first to hear some exciting news about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Our story editor, Margaret Kerrison, shared for the first time that the name of the village is called Black Spire Outpost. She also shared some of the history behind the name and how this village is closely associated with the geological formations that surround it. The largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself. I look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming months and cannot wait for you to live YOUR own Star Wars story once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland Resort in summer 2019 or at Walt Disney World Resort in late fall 2019. Disneyland Resort has always been the place to get a classic dipped corn dog — and during Pixar Fest, guests can get their corn dog a little on the spicy side! Nope, we’re not talking about the regular hot link corn dog. Nope — storm Corn Dog Castle in Disney California Adventure Park and seize a Spicy Corn Dog! This is a hot link corn dog times a thousand! Spicy Corn Dog at Corn Dog Castle This savory snack is comprised of Hot Link Sausage, Pepper Jack Cheese, and even spicier Cajun Chicken Sausage! And it’s gargantuan! Spicy Corn Dog The construction of the dog is in three parts: two small links of sausage with pepper jack cheese in the middle. So when you cut it right down the center, you get a great shot of the melty cheese. Pepper Jack Cheese — so much cheese! The Spicy Corn Dog is served with a thoughtfully-composed Sweet-and-Spicy Blackberry-Serrano Chile Sauce. The combo of heat and sweet is awesome! Sweet-and-Spicy Blackberry-Serrano Chile Sauce Seriously, pour it on or dunk it — just get them together because the Spicy Corn Dog is terrific with the sauce. Saucy Spicy Corn Dog The sausages are also super flavorful. The Cajun Chicken Sausage was particularly good — tons of flavor and good heat! Spicy Corn Dog — Sausage! This is one super corn dog, Disney food friends. Run! Get it! Dunk it! Eat it! (Chase it down with a Berry Funnel Cake or a Cocoa Churro!) And don’t forget to download and print your very own Pixar Fest Food Checklist so you don’t miss an eat! Click here to read all about Pixar Fest and print your own Pixar Fest Food Checklist!
