I’m sure looking forward to the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the latest film that will let you journey into a galaxy far, far away. The film opens May 25, but today we’re happy to share that tickets are now on sale for the film! There’s no better way to celebrate than to follow up a screening of the film with attending the Star Wars: Galactic Nights special event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios held exclusively on May 27th. One highlight of this Star Wars: Galactic Nights celebration will be exclusive Solo: A Star Wars Story-inspired content – particularly the opportunity to participate in this year’s Stars of the Saga, an entertaining Star Wars-themed talk show with celebrity guest Joonas Suotamo who plays Chewbacca in the new film. He will be talking about his fascinating life and movie making adventures – audience members may also have the opportunity to ask Joonas their own questions. The event’s Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away presentation will debut some new video moments from Solo: A Star Wars Story. And the park’s nighttime projection show, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” will debut a new action sequence from the film. Plus, event attendees will receive a complimentary commemorative patch with proof of a movie ticket purchase. Just show an electronic or printed proof of purchase or ticket to a showing of Solo: A Star Wars Story dated between May 24-27 at the event to receive a free commemorative patch. (One gift per guest, while supplies list). View the full article

This Sunday we will celebrate Mom! The woman who has cooked for you, cleaned your room and reminded you to get enough rest. Yes, it’s only fitting that we celebrate this special woman for at least one day each year. This year Disney Parks Moms Panelist, Jerry, celebrates his wife and shares how he believes you can create magical memories for your mom at Walt Disney World Resort. Celebrating Mom With so many exciting choices across theme parks, attractions, parades, water parks, restaurants, shops and more, how do you best wrap your arms around all those options the way Mom wraps her arms around everything family? How do you say, “Can You Feel the Love Today, Mom?” First, it starts with borrowing some Mother’s intuition. A Mom has the secret sense to know every detail about everyone in her family. So, start with doing your best to channel her thoughts on the perfect day. Call your Fairy Godmother, text Tinker Bell, or wish upon a star, but do whatever is needed to put some thought into knowing what Mom loves. As a Disney Dad, married to an equally all-Disney wife and mom, I’ve enjoyed almost 18 years of my son and I trying to create Mother’s Day moments that show our love and appreciation. At Walt Disney World, I would start with breakfast reservations where she can enjoy something similar to what I might prepare at home. The house-made banana bread French toast with bananas foster sauce at Whispering Canyon Cafe is the perfect choice for my wife. After breakfast, we’d head over to her always favorite Magic Kingdom Park. For many of us, there’s a moment when you first step onto Main Street, U.S.A. that brings with it an overwhelming, shake-your-bum-happy-dance giddiness, and our Mother’s Day guest of honor is no different. The first stop will be Main Street Bakery, where they have perfected the 5-pump mocha that my wife says is a must. Like myself, my wife and son love Space Mountain, so we always make that attraction our first and last experience. Throughout the day, we’ll stop at several Disney PhotoPass Service photographers. What Mom doesn’t want to see their kiddos smiling at them in a photo they can cherish forever? Cinderella is my wife’s favorite Disney Princess, so a dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table will add to her royal treatment. Topping off the day? The only experience my wife loves more than walking though Magic Kingdom Park is watching fireworks, and so you can only imagine the sheer perfection that Happily Ever After puts in the air. So far, we have a day of magic ending with spectacular fireworks beneath the stars, above Cinderella Castle. Could we make this Mother’s Day any more perfect? Yes. Capture some of those sparkles in the sky. When my son and I celebrated his Mom’s first Mother’s Day at Walt Disney World, he picked out a pair of Mickey Mouse iconic earrings that she still cherishes all these years later. Ok, he was nine months old at the time, so he had some help. Finally, our family has a tradition for ending a day at Magic Kingdom Park. We stay as late as possible, hanging back a bit after The Kiss Goodnight as Main Street, U.S.A. empties and grows quiet. There is a feeling in the air of all that magic lingering around you. You can see it in the streetlamps and lights that string along the rooftops. As the Lion King ballad says, there’s a calm surrender to the rush of day, an enchanted moment when we let the love of our Mother’s Day know — It’s enough for us just to be with you. Sounds like a perfect Mother’s Day! If you need tips for planning the ultimate day for your mom at the Walt Disney World Resort or general Disney vacation planning ideas, be sure to visit the DisneyParksMomsPanel.com and ask one of our knowledge panelists for more great tips and recommendations. Our Disney Doodles series explores what a Disney character may do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney theme park. This week, artist Ashley Taylor drew on Stitch from “Lilo & Stitch” for inspiration. In the film, Stitch is introduced to music by Lilo, who shares her favorite 1950s tunes with him. So it’s likely Stitch would seek out an area of Magic Kingdom Park with music that is truly out of this world. “Sonny Eclipse is the best musician in the galaxy,” she said. “I could easily imagine Stitch spending his time listening to his music!” View the full article

We’re not saying Pixar Fest at Disneyland Resort should be called Churro Fest — but with the sheer number of these cinnamon sugared fried dough sticks bouncing around like a Luxo Ball, it certainly could be. Today we’re heading to Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland where the churro cart across from Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is serving up Lemon Churros. But there’s more to this sweet treat than some lemon sugar. Lemon Churro on Main Street, U.S.A.! That’s right — the Fruity Pebbles we found on the Funnel Cake Fries at Award Wieners have been pulverized and used to dust the Lemon Churros! So in addition to some sweet Lemon Sugar, these churros offer up some fruity, colorful fun! Lemon Churro We love the rainbow speckles — and the sweet-but-not-too-sweet flavors of this churro. We think kids of all ages will enjoy the Lemon Churro! Lemon Churro So if you’re working through your Pixar Fest Food Checklist, don’t miss this one! Checklist! Earlier this week, we shared several amazing new images with you straight from Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including pics of many of “Toy Story” characters you may see or encounter on your visit when the land opens on June 30. First up, we shared that guests enjoying Slinky Dog Dash will encounter Wheezy during their ride. At the end of the attraction, Wheezy will sing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” assisted by Mike (the tape recorder), and Mr. Spell, who “texts” funny commentary. He’ll be the first and only Wheezy Audio-Animatronics figure in a Disney theme park. (Check out the video of our Imagineers installing Wheezy here). We shared a look at Sarge and the Green Army Man Drum Corps, who will march through the land several times a day and play “Sarge Says” with guests. Guests will also have the option to join in on their interactive boot camp to see if they have what it takes to become an official recruit in Andy’s Backyard. We also shared this (adorable!) first image of one of the ride vehicles from the highly-anticipated Alien Swirling Saucers attraction. Our third story showcasing the legendary women who have helped shape the Disneyland Resort is focused on Alice Davis. Originally published in the Disneyland Resort Line, a magazine published exclusively for Disneyland Resort cast members, below is an excerpt of Alice’s extraordinary story. Walt Disney recruited Alice Davis to work on “it’s a small world,” where the talented designer would create more than 150 intricate Audio-Animatronics costumes in less than a year’s time. Alice researched the 26 countries and crafted designs that represented each, while reflecting the animation sketches drawn by her husband and fellow Imagineer, Marc Davis, and the palette developed by art designer Mary Blair. Alice and Marc worked together again as Alice took his designs from sketch to show with the costumes she created for Pirates of the Caribbean. Her designs in both attractions remain to this day, contributing to the staying power of these two legendary Disneyland attractions. For these and many other contributions, Alice’s legacy was cemented with a window dedication on Main Street, U.S.A., in 2012. Alice was in attendance during the dedication ceremony –– as was current Cast Member Maureen Townsend, whose team maintains the Audio-Animatronics costumes that Alice designed. In fact, Maureen helped choose the purple Balkan dress from “it’s a small world” that was painted on Alice’s window. “All of us in Costuming adore Alice. She was a pioneer, an inspiration and a mentor. It’s breathtaking when you look at the scope and the detail of her work,” said Maureen, whose team carefully preserves Alice’s original swatch books as a way to “archive history” and maintain the integrity of the costumes. “With other attractions, you ride for the thrills, the movement. But with ‘it’s a small world,’ people go to see the costumes and the sets, the beauty and history and how their own heritage is represented,” Maureen said. “It’s our job to pass the beauty and history, which Alice so beautifully brought to life, on to future generations — and we take that responsibility very seriously.” View the full article

Today we have an exciting update to share with you from Future World at Epcot. Earlier this week, 960 trucks’ worth of concrete was poured to create the foundation of what will soon take shape as Epcot’s mammoth “Guardians of the Galaxy”-themed attraction. The attraction is on track to become one of the world’s longest enclosed coasters, and to house it, a new facility is being built adjacent to the existing Universe of Energy building. Inspired by the films, the “Guardians of the Galaxy”-themed attraction will expand on the original vision of Epcot’s Future World, with an epic storyline being developed by Walt Disney Imagineering in close collaboration with the original filmmakers. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the construction progress! While the “Guardians of the Galaxy”-themed attraction is currently set to debut at Epcot just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, guests don’t have to wait too long to get a “Guardians” fix at Epcot. As a part of Walt Disney World’s “Incredible Summer,” Star-Lord and Gamora from “Guardians of the Galaxy” will take guests on a musical journey through the cosmos in “Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!” at the America Gardens Theatre at Epcot. Guests can catch “Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!” five times a day from June 9 through August 19. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for future updates. View the full article

We often hear from readers who want to know if DFB’s favorites of yore have still got IT. Learn About: San Angel Inn Restaurante Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants You know what we mean: do they still have the mojo that keeps guests coming back year after year. For some restaurants at Walt Disney World, it’s killer food and a seasonal, ever-changing menu that draws in a crowd. For others, it’s an atmosphere that can’t be beat — like ‘Ohana‘s warm family feel or Sanaa‘s animal friends right outside the window. For Beaches & Cream, it’s a sense of nostalgia paired with comforting eats that have been consistently good since the soda shop opened its doors almost thirty years ago. (Let’s just table that thirty years ago bit because there’s no way we’re that old…) Beaches & Cream is tucked in between the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts on an outdoor walkway adjacent to Stormalong Bay — the fabulous pool shared by the resorts. That means Beaches and Cream is in the Epcot Resort Area (and just a stone’s throw from the International Gateway that serves as an entrance to Epcot’s World Showcase). This convenient location means that even guests not staying at the Resorts will make the short trip to this casual table service location for a bite to eat. But you (and I!) wanted to know: does Beaches & Cream still have IT? Beaches and Cream Atmosphere From the colorful sign over the entrance to Beaches & Cream to the pastels and patterns inside the restaurant, this spot has seaside soda shop written all over it. And we love that throwback feeling. The tin ceilings, heavy turquoise moldings, and big glass pendant lights help us feel like we’ve gone back in time. Seating at Beaches and Cream Seating at Beaches & Cream is limited — which accounts for the almost-necessity of making an ADR nowadays. The restaurant is very popular, and the supply of available seats just can’t keep up with the demand. Seating (when you’ve scored some!) is mostly at tables with retro padded chairs. There’s also seating at the bar — the ice cream bar, that is! This is a fun place to sit if you want to have a front row view of the dessert action! Seating at the bar at Beaches and Cream Along the mirrored wall are a few booths, which can accommodate up to six (if you’re willing to bump elbows the whole time). Colorful beach balls and sconces in the shape of ice cream cones contribute to the beachy vibe. Booth seating at Beaches and Cream At the booths, diners find retro details like a table-top juke box, a tall straw dispenser, and squirt bottles of mustard and ketchup. Booth seating at Beaches and Cream If you want to check out a full-sized, full-neon jukebox, there’s one of those, too. (Just tell the kids it’s a tween-sized iPod.) Jukebox So what kind of throwback eats can we find in this colorful joint? Eats Beaches & Cream features a small menu of appealing, Grandma-approved entrees like a Patty Melt, Tuna Salad, and a Turkey Club. There’s also a decent Veggie Burger on the menu for those who prefer it. The Angus Beef Burger is a big hit with diners. You’ll also find Today’s Specials (which are actually everyday’s specials), which include Sock Hop Fries — the restaurant’s version of poutine. We love the Sock Hop Fries, with their gravy and cheddar cheese — so much so that we included it on our Poutine Crawl! Beaches and Cream Menu Of course, no trip to Beaches & Cream is complete without a good, long look at the Ice Cream Menu, which includes Shakes & Sodas, Sundaes on the Beach, and Desserts. Beaches and Cream Ice Cream Menu On this visit I dug back into those Cheese and Bacon Fries. (Yeah, you saw that comin’…) These golden thick-cut fries are topped with Cheese Sauce, Crispy Bacon, Red Onions, and Garlic Peppercorn Ranch Dressing. Bacon and Cheese Fries These are as amazing as they sound, with the right balance of creamy, crunchy, and crisp toppings. Definitely get a plate of these (but prepare to share because who can resist?). Bacon and Cheese Fries The Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque is one of my favorites — and by favorites I mean anywhere on Walt Disney World property. There’s something about this grilled cheese and its accompanying soup that I can not resist. Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup The cheese is crazy gooey, and the bisque is a great, savory soup that’s a step above traditional tomato. Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup New to me on this visit was Country-Fried Steak. This down-home meal might be a bit heavy for a hot summer day in the World, but we bet if you chase it down with a sundae, you’ll manage. Country-Fried Steak There is literally a waterfall of White Gravy to accompany that crunchy fried steak, and you can’t go wrong with the fries (dunked in the gravy — yum!). Country-Fried Steak And surprisingly, this steak was tender! Look, it’s no Wagyu Beef from Morimoto, but that’s not what you’re after at Beaches & Cream anyway. This is a hearty piece of meat cooked well in a tasty crust. Win! I was super impressed. Interior of Country-Fried Steak And since I was in the World with my preschooler, I got to supplement my grilled cheese with more cheese — Kids’ Mac and Cheese. This was great — creamy, cheesy, and a decent portion for a child (or a picky adult who needs stomach space for ice cream…). Kids’ Macaroni and Cheese Any meal at Beaches & Cream comes with a side of condiments. Helpful and convenient. Condiments on the Side But who cares about relish when there’s ice cream to be eaten?! Say hello to José — No Way José. And yes, that’s Hot Fudge and Peanut Butter Sauce cascading down the side of his massive sundae bowl. No Way Jose Sundae The base of this sundae is Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream. It’s topped with copious sauces (hallelujah!), Whipped Cream, Chocolate and Peanut Butter Morsels, Peanuts, and a Cherry. José never disappoints. Ever. He’s always there for you, overfilling his sundae bowl and just generally being amazing. We love No Way José. No Way Jose Close Up We also love the new-ish Snickers Sundae here. It consists of three scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream and a torrential amount of Hot Fudge and Marshmallow toppings, as well as Snickers pieces (naturally!), chopped Peanuts, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry. Snickers Sundae Did we mention there’s a lot of sauce on there? Hot. Fudge. Waterfall. Yeeeeesssss. Hot fudge waterfall on the Snickers Sundae You can’t go wrong with any of the sundaes or shakes at Beaches & Cream. And who can forget The Kitchen Sink?! This massive concoction is a combo of multiple ice cream flavors, a bunch of toppings, and a can of whipped cream. (There are three versions: original, Neopolitan, and Chocolate Lovers!) Wanna see The Kitchen Sink in all of her glory? Check out our DFB Video where we take a long, hungry look at this ice cream insanity! Nosh or Not? Roll in with the tide to Beaches & Cream if: You crave an old-fashioned soda shop experience. A meal just isn’t a meal without a massive ice cream sundae at the end. You want consistent eats in a casual atmosphere that’s Epcot-adjacent. Build your sand castle elsewhere if: Soda shop style grub isn’t your thing. You prefer one of the more upscale table service restaurants in the Epcot resort area. You want the option to select more creative (and potentially healthier) dishes. You don’t have a reservation and aren’t prepared to wait a while. Overall Yup, Beaches & Cream has still got IT, and I’m so glad. There’s something about simple food done well that is comforting — whether it’s upscale dining or something more casual, like Beaches & Cream. And it doesn’t hurt that their ice cream game is on point, either! Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! The 2018 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, is now available! Arriving soon at Disneyland park is a fierce and independent pirate known as Redd. A bit mysterious by nature, Redd travels to various ports throughout the Caribbean—selling rum and collecting coin, and will soon be taking a journey to visit with guests in New Orleans Square. We caught up with this seemingly familiar redhead and asked her a few questions. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Well, if I needed friends, they’d call me Redd. Pirates call me ‘Rrr’ for short. I been ‘round the world, but the sea is always home. Do you know Captain Jack Sparrow? That Sparrow owes me a new ship. Wouldn’t be surprised if he found himself in irons once more. If you see Mister Sparrow, I’m lookin’ for ‘em! Some pirates think it’s bad luck to have a woman aboard a pirate ship. What do you think? T’is far worse luck not to. What is treasure to you? Coin o’course! I accept it all—Spanish doubloons, English farthings, French livre, Dutch lion dollars and Portuguese moidore. Are you looking forward to meeting guests in New Orleans Square? I s’pose. I be searching for brave sorts of recruits for a few little ventures. Are you anyone’s bride? M’ only love is profits, dear. Keep an eye out for Redd this summer strolling around New Orleans Square! View the full article

The newly reopened Blue Sky Cellar in Disney California Adventure is giving us glimpses into the future of Pixar Pier. Pixar Pier Marquee Concept Art ©Disney The Cellar features concept art, sketches, models, and even videos of the upcoming land, which opens on June 23rd, and includes some new concept art of Lamplight Lounge! As Heather Sievers (@diningindisney) was busy noshing on all the eats at Pixar Fest, she stopped by Blue Sky Cellar and shared photos of the concept art with us. This new lounge will replace the Cove Bar. The story behind the space is that it’s renovated from an old warehouse factory, with the wooden floor made from refinished wood boards from the factory (you’ll spot them on the ceiling, too). Lamplight Lounge Concept Art It seems to have kind of an artists’ studio vibe in keeping with the theme of the creative process behind the films of Pixar, celebrating “the creativity, inspirations and personalities of the artists and storytellers who have brought Pixar stories to life.” You can already spy bits of whimsy that will be tucked into the space if you look on the left wall in the rendering above, as the space will be dotted with knick knacks and even collectable toys of Pixar characters. You’ll also want to keep your eyes peeled for concept art, sketches on napkins, and the like. The “picturesque waterfront views” referred to on the bulletin board will feature Pixar Pier and views of the World of Color spectacular in the evenings. Lamplight Lounge Concept Art While the menu has yet to be revealed, you can rest assured that the Cove Bar’s beloved Lobster Nachos will be on the menu at the reimagined spot! Remember, the opening date for Lamplight Lounge is June 23rd, when it opens with the rest of Pixar Pier. Find out all the details on Pixar Pier on our Pixar Pier page! The park’s celebration will run through March 25, 2019. Will you visit this year? View the full article -
