  3. We are eagerly awaiting the opening this winter season of Jaleo by Chef José Andrés in Disney Springs! To further whet our appetites, today José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup, in collaboration with renowned Spanish design firm Capella Garcia Arquitectura, has provided new artwork for the 22 thousand square foot restaurant which will serve the Chef’s authentic Spanish cuisine. ©José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup They shared that “the architectural form of the building is inspired by an artichoke, a vegetable native to José’s homeland. The artichoke structure opens up, inviting guests to enter and experience the very best of Spanish cuisine.” Color choices will present citrus-inspired hues of orange and lemon, with wood and ceramic materials also setting the scene. ©José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup Interestingly, the two-story building is without solid walls, making it completely open to the outside! The space will offer guests lake views while protecting them from the Florida sun. Among the featured artwork will be “the ‘Suit of Lights,’ an iconic photo of a bullfighter’s suit from Spanish photographer Rafael Vargas, as well a collage of San Sebastian’s popular Concha beach by photographer Ciuco Gutiérrez, bringing the Spanish landscape closer to Walt Disney World Resort.” “The idea of Jaleo, the Spanish word for “revelry,” inspires the large, family-style gathering space, inviting guests to share tapas and sangria, gather with family at the foosball tables, or enjoy the more elegant central seating for paellas and grilled meats, anchored by the restaurant’s open kitchen and wood fire grill.” Private dining will also be offered on two terraces presenting promenade or lake views. Jaleo sign in Disney Springs Jaleo will also offer a quick service option in the building’s front corner! Spanish street-food-inspired sandwiches and salads will be on offer for guests on the main promenade of Disney Springs. We look forward to welcoming Jaleo soon!! How about you? 8. Every day dreams come true for guests at Disney Parks around the world. Now, with the new Disney Aspire education program, Disney is helping make some extra magic for cast members, too. As part of this 100 percent tuition-paid education program, U.S.-based hourly full-time and part-time cast members can now pursue their dreams – and the program has already helped hundreds of cast members take the next step toward their college or professional dreams! Today, we’re proud to kick off our new “Dreams Within Reach” series by introducing you to the first Disney Aspire graduate, Anthony Payne, a Custodial Cast Member at the Walt Disney World Resort. At Epcot, Anthony works through the night to make sure the park is looking great and ready for guests each morning. With support from Disney, Anthony has now completed his HVAC Technician course work at Penn Foster as part of his dream to work on the Disney Cruise Line. A surprise visit from Mickey Mouse helped commemorate his achievement, which Anthony says was inspired by his wife and three children. “They have always been my biggest motivation,” he says. “I’ve wanted to go back to school for about 15 years now, and I haven’t heard of too many companies offering something as generous as this.” “I really feel like Disney is investing in our futures, and they’re helping us to grow and follow our dreams. I can’t wait to use my skills, and advance as far as I can here.” Disney Aspire launched this year to help more than 85,000 hourly cast members reach their goals by equipping them with education programs, coaching and job skills so that they may learn and grow. The $150 million program gives cast members the opportunity to enroll in online courses across a network of schools, with the cost of tuition and books covered by Disney. From pursuing professional skills like Anthony, to a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts like J’Amy Pacheco, a Guest Relations Hostess at the Disneyland Resort, Disney Aspire allows cast members to truly take steps towards their future, no matter the subject. From application to graduation, and every step along the way, Disney Aspire continues The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to supporting the long-term goals of cast members and helps put those dreams within reach. Learn more about the program and apply by visiting aspire.disney.com. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories of how cast members are achieving their goals and making dreams come true with Disney Aspire, as we continue our #DreamsWithinReach series over the coming months. 9. In this week’s “Disney Parks in Silhouette,” silhouette designer Keith Lapinig took his creative talents to Epcot. Keith first looked to the park’s signature Spaceship Earth attraction to serve as his creative canvas. “I thought it would be hilarious if Genie transformed into Spaceship Earth like how he becomes the moon at the end of Aladdin, so I put this scene together!” Keith said. He then stopped in to Coral Reef restaurant, where the restaurant’s aquarium wall became the perfect place for Lilo and Pudge from “Lilo and Stitch.” “I figured Pudge the fish would have a blast in the Coral Reef restaurant in Epcot, and Lilo would make sure Pudge isn’t envious of all the dinner-goers by still bringing its peanut butter sandwich every Thursday,” Keith said. Further into the park, Keith found the ideal location to place pals, Perdita and Anita, on a walk. “The residential area in the back of the UK pavilion served as the perfect spot for Perdita and Anita to take a stroll one morning,” Keith said. “Maybe they’ll run into Pongo and Roger soon!” To view more of Keith’s silhouettes, check out the list of related posts below. 18. Welcome back to Backlot Express! Learn About: Backlot Express Disney's Hollywood Studios Disney World Restaurants This counter service option is quite possibly the most popular in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (with the exception of the relatively new Woody’s Lunch Box). Known for its highly detailed movie warehouse setting and classic dishes like chicken nuggets, burgers, and salads, it’s a spot which appeals to many guests. The past couple of years, Backlot Express has also been known as the spot to find some Star Wars themed eats among the offerings. The Royal Guard Burger and Dark Side Chicken and Waffles (with said waffles emblazoned with Darth Vader) were found as entrees in front of Star Wars cupcakes for dessert options featuring an array of characters ranging over the years from Darth Vader and Yoda to Chewbacca and BB-8 and beyond. Backlot Express We’re here today, though, to check out the newly revamped menu and to discover what’s changed and what’s remained the same on the menu at Backlot Express! Backlot Express Menu The main thing you’ll notice when checking out the entrée menu is that the Star Wars themed offerings have been removed… somewhat. You see, technically you’ll still find the Royal Guard Burger (1/3 lb angus beef burger topped with BBQ brisket, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles), only now it’s called the Backlot Burger. Backlot Express Menu Ditto for the Galactic Salad, which is now the Southwest Salad served with or without chicken. New offerings include a Cuban Sandwich. Four piece Chicken Tenders have replaced the more standard Chicken Nuggets, and the Dark Side Chicken and Waffles have been entirely switched out for a new Chicken and Biscuits entrée. You can still grab a Caprese Sandwich or the California Chicken Club. And for dessert? A new Key Lime Verrine and Peanut Butter Brownie are available. As for drinks, current Backlot Specialty cocktails include a Strawberry Daquiri, Frozen Golden Margarita, and Vodka Lemonade. And your little Padawan may be glad to know that they can still get a BB-8 Souvenir Sipper with their soda or drink if they’re still really hoping for a Star Wars touch here. Backlot Express Menu Let’s dig in! New Backlot Menu Items The Chicken and Biscuits takes homestyle buttermilk biscuits and chicken tenders and tops them with country gravy, a spicy strawberry glaze, and bacon crumbles. Chicken and Biscuits Three nice-sized tenders offer more meat and less breading than the standard Nuggets. Chicken and Biscuits The biscuits themselves are nice and buttery, and not dry at all. Chicken and Biscuits There is nothing remarkable about the gravy, which is fine. But it is outshone by the yummy spicy strawberry glaze which has a surprising amount of kick to it along with its tang. Hooray! Chicken and Biscuits The Cuban Sandwich features roasted pulled pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles and mustard. Cuban Sandwich It comes with French Fries. Cuban Sandwich The pressed sandwich gives the bread some great texture. Cuban Sandwich And when they say that it comes with pickles and mustard, they mean business! There is a lot more applied here than your standard condiments. Cuban Sandwich We really enjoyed how much flavor this lends to the sandwich, but if you’re not a fan of those strong tastes you may want to ask for your sandwich to be made without or to have those on the side. As for the meats, the pork is just okay, and the ham lends a lot more flavor. Cuban Sandwich But overall it’s a really nice change of pace for a counter service sandwich, and it was enjoyed! The Peanut Butter Brownie is, first of all, pretty darn big! Peanut Butter Brownie But it’s obviously different than the Peanut Butter Brownie we’re used to over at Animal Kingdom Lodge. The emphasis remains on the chocolate here with the peanut butter coming from the generous amount of Reese’s Pieces-style candies over top of a layer of fudgy chocolate… at least at first glance. You see, even more peanut butter is tucked inside the brownie itself. Peanut Butter Brownie The whole thing is SUPER dense, rich, and filling with the candy pieces adding a fun and tasty crunch. And did we mention… it’s HUGE?! Peanut Butter Brownie The Key Lime Verrine (Verrines are taking over Hollywood Studios counter service spots, BTW) is a parfait-style dessert layering light and airy key lime custard with graham crumbs topped with a dollop of whipped cream and a white chocolate ring. Key Lime Verrine Even though it was good overall, I was wanting more of a flavor punch from the lime. It was even overpowered just by the dollop of vanilla bean cream (which is delicious, I must say). Key Lime Verrine Key Lime Verrine The new offerings here are solid, and a reminder of why we enjoy Backlot Express as a go-to within the realm of counter service in Hollywood Studios. But the removal of most Star Wars elements from the menu here is a bit of a surprising decision, as Hollywood Studios continues to readily promote Star Wars elements within the park such as the Star Wars Launch Bay and the nighttime production of Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular in anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening in the park this fall. Then again, it’s hardly a complete shock. After all, Star Wars themed food won’t be quite so necessary when we’re able to grab a drink or maybe even some Blue Milk in an actual Cantina on the Planet Batuu… so there’s that! Check out ALL of the restaurants in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in our DFB YouTube Video! Is Backlot Express one of your favorites? Please let us know with a comment! 21. When my teammates and I learned that this year’s Epcot International Festival of the Arts would find four Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise veterans performing together on stage to conclude the festival’s Disney on Broadway Concert Series, we immediately started making plans to reunite with our old friends. And because these reunions are always more fun with Members in attendance, we decided to turn our little gathering into what promises to be another memorable Membership Magic event. As you may have heard, the stars performing together at Epcot on Feb. 25 include Ashley Brown (Broadway’s original Mary Poppins), Josh Strickland (Broadway’s original Tarzan), Alton Fitzgerald White (Broadway’s record-breaking Lion King, with 4,308 performances as Mufasa) and Kissy Simmons (known to many Disney fans for her standout performances as Nala in “The Lion King”). All four of these performers have gained a friendly following around the Disney Vacation Club neighborhood, with numerous Member Cruise credits on their resumes. (If business trips counted as Castaway Club voyages, this group could be Platinum on Member Cruise voyages alone.) To bring the Epcot International Festival of the Arts to a close in distinctive fashion on Feb. 25, Disney Vacation Club has created a Disney on Broadway Dessert Party for Members and their guests. Attendees will enjoy guaranteed seating at one of the evening’s Disney on Broadway concerts at the America Gardens Theatre and an 8:30-9:30 p.m. fireworks dessert party in the United Kingdom Pavilion before mingling with the Disney on Broadway stars during a casual cocktail hour (9:30-10:30 p.m.) in the Member Lounge atop the Imagination! Pavilion. The cost per person is $77 (plus tax and gratuity) for adults and $52 (plus tax and gratuity) for children. Please note that paid Epcot admission also is required. Call Member Services beginning Jan. 8 at (800) 800-9800 for details and reservations, and get ready to celebrate with the stars! As a part of Membership Extras, an incidental benefit, these member benefits are subject to change, availability or termination and may require a fee. Membership Extras are available with eligible ownership interests. Visit http://disneyvacationclub.com/memextraspolicy for more information. View the full article

  24. In our Disney Doodle series, our Disney artists take turns imagining what different Disney characters would do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor envisions what Ariel and her pal, Scuttle, would do first at Magic Kingdom Park. According to Ashley, Ariel’s curiosity may compel her to check out the latest souvenirs at the Emporium. “Ariel is always distracted by human objects,” Ashley said. “It’s easy to imagine Scuttle wanting to introduce her to the latest fashions at the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A.!” View the full article
