  2. While we already knew the Villaintine’s Day treats we narrowly escaped from last year would be returning to Disney’s Contemporary Resort for one day only — today’s the BIG DAY! Contempo Cafe in the Contemporary Resort In fact, while everything looked calm and quiet on the surface, Contempo Cafe was literally under siege with the special Disney Villains desserts we knew were being re-released for Villaintine’s Day! While last year we tried the Maleficent Flourless Cake and Cruella de Vil Cupcake (which you can read our reviews of here!) this time around we wanted to make the acquaintance of a few more foes — like the Captain Hook Cupcake for $5.49! This sinister goodie features a chocolate cake topped with a swirl of blue and white buttercream, gummy fish, a dark chocolate plank, and a white chocolate piece with the antagonist himself, Captain Hook! Captain Hook Cupcake While we thought the Captain Hook Cupcake was one of the cuter treats we sampled, it was pretty basic. Just good ol’ chocolate cake and dyed buttercream. We could tell it was super fresh because of how crumbly it was, so big props to the pirate for being nice and yummy! Captain Hook Cupcake We have quite the sweet spot for Belle’s unsuitable suitor and this Gaston Cupcake for $5.99 really commanded our attention! It’s a caramel cake with a dulce de leche filling, red and gold vanilla buttercream, a dark chocolate belt. Gaston Cupcake The Gaston Cupcake is roughly the size of a barge, so we were diggin’ it right away just for sheer manpower. The caramel cake and dulce de leche filling were amazing. The cake was super moist, soft and fresh. There was a lot of dulce de leche in the center and it was nice and sweet — not the qualities one would normally use to describe Gaston, but delicious nonetheless! Gaston Cupcake We’re not really sure why Hades gets such a bum rap for being a bad guy! He’s actually just a big softy! The Hades Cupcake for $5.99 was is a vanilla cupcake filled with pumpkin custard and topped with blue buttercream, silver sugar, and a white chocolate piece of Hades’ handsome mug! Hades Cupcake Just like Gaston, the Hades Cupcake was super moist and tasty. The pumpkin is VERY prominent. If you’re not a huge pumpkin fan, this could be a hard pass, but fans of the flavor should really enjoy this! Hades Cupcake Lastly, we sank our teeth into the Scar Peanut Butter Pie for $4.79. Long live the king!! The Scar Peanut Butter Pie is a peanut butter-flavored tart with a chocolate sprinkle rim and a white chocolate garnish of Simba’s evil Uncle! Scar Peanut Butter Pie And get a load of those cocoa powder claw scratches! Mee-youch! That looks like it’ll leave a MARK! Scar Peanut Butter Pie Despite his sourpuss exterior, the Scar Peanut Butter Pie is really really peanut buttery. The flavor is super strong and it even smells super very peanut buttery. It’s not very sweet and its texture is soft and smooth. We really loved it! Scar Peanut Butter Pie You can also get the Maleficient Flourless Cake… Maleficent Flourless Cake …the Ursula Cake… Ursula Cake …and the Cruella de Vil Cupcake. You can also snatch up the Evil Queen Fruit Tart and the Dr. Facilier Cookie Sandwich! Cruella de Vil Cupcake Take a closer look at more of the Villaintine’s Day treats here! These guys should only be hanging around at Disney’s Contemporary Resort today. There are also a few villainous drinks lurking around that you can check out here! And if you’re looking for even more evil treats, be sure to check out the wicked eats you can only get at Magic Kingdom during their Disney Villains After Hours parties here! 5. Disney Springs is our go-to spot, especially if we’re looking to continue the fun long after the parks close. Disney Springs at sunset ©Disney It also happens to be one of the only places on property that offers Happy Hour deals (we got your attention there, right?!). Stargazers Bar at the Planet Hollywood Observatory is hoping to extend the fun with additional Happy Hour deals and Karaoke. ©Disney They will now be offering karaoke not only on Fridays from 8:00 PM to Midnight, but also on Wednesdays. If you’re needing some liquid courage, you’re in luck. They will also be offering Happy Hour from 7:00 to 8:00 PM and again from 10:00 PM to Midnight. They proudly serve over 15 local Florida craft beers in addition to their signature cocktails and a selection of house wines. ©Disney If all that performing has worked up an appetite, feast on some apps and snacks to share with your crew. We’ve been known to dabble in Karaoke in our day and this sounds like an excellent way to end a day at Walt Disney World! Have you visited the Stargazers Bar at Planet Hollywood in Disney Springs? 8. It’s time to get our quack on in Disneyland’s Toontown and order up a Daisy’s Diner specialty: Pepperoni Pizza! Daisy’s Diner in ToonTown Now, Daisy’s Diner isn’t exactly haute cuisine, but it does have something special going for it. Get ready for a slice of fun! For starters, when you order an individual-size Pepperoni Pizza from Daisy, she packages it up right: in a pizza box with a quote from Uncle Walt! “We have the courage to pursue” this pizza, so let’s dig in! Pizza Box at Daisy’s Diner Inside is the standard Disney Parks pizza (you’ll find the same over at Alien Pizza Planet in Tomorrowland!). But: make it MICKEY! Mickey Pepperoni Pizza The trio of pepperoni slices is enough to cover most of the pizza. And though the pizza is not large by any means, the dough, cheese, and pepperoni combination is definitely filling. Mickey Pepperoni Pizza Yep, it’s that puffy-crusted, quick-service Disney pizza…but we give props for including two sizes of pepperoni so we get that li’l Mickey head! Mickey Pepperoni Pizza The crust gets a little crispness from cheese that toasts as the pizza cooks. Those are some fun nibbles. Mickey Pepperoni Pizza Overall: you’re full. You can make it through to the next meal or snack. You might even be happy if you were craving a theme park pizza made with standard ingredients and no surprises! We love anything Mickey-fied, so we count this pizza as a win despite the fact that is is, indeed, puffy Disney parks quick-service pizza. Still craving pizza, but with a more creative twist? 10. Today is the day before Valentine’s Day… which means it’s Villaintine’s Day (February 13th) at Disney World’s Contemporary Resort! Cruella de Vil Cupcake And Outer Rim — the lounge featuring views of Bay Lake which you’ll find right by Chef Mickey’s and Contempo Café — is celebrating in wicked fashion once again this year with an array of specialty cocktails fit for an Evil Queen! With many thanks to our friend Glenn (@cuse2188 on Instagram), we’re bringing you a look at these drinks custom-made for the occasion! Villaintine’s Day Cocktails Each of the three cocktails is inspired by a Disney Villain. Villaintine’s Day Cocktails The Antagonist (which we enjoyed last year) is inspired by Jafar from Aladdin, and combines Tanqeray Gin with Monin Watermelon, Sprite, and pomegranate juice for a sweet and fruity sip. The finishing touches are a chocolate rim and a gummy worm. The Antagonist Oh, and a souvenir glow cube, of course! The Poison Apple is inspired by the Evil Queen, and presents Captain Morgan rum and Amaretto with apple juice (naturally) and a splash of pomegranate. A sugar rim adds another hint of sweetness to balance out the strong flavors. The Poison Apple And finally, we arrive at The Dark Forest (which Glenn shares is the favorite)! The Dark Forest Inspired by Maleficent, this mix of Ketel One and blue curacao also gets splashes of cranberry juice, sweet & sour, and grenadine for a tart taste sweetened by the sugar rim. The Dark Forest Can’t get enough of Villaintine’s Day at the Contemporary? Well, there’s more where this came from… Check out the Villaintine’s Day Treats at Contempo Café here! Here’s to an absolutely evil Villaintine’s Day today… and a completely lovely Valentine’s Day tomorrow! Which Villains-inspired drink would you most like to try? Please let us know with a comment! 11. Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Resort is one of our favorite places to enjoy one of Disney World’s finest frozen treats — DOLE WHIP! Pineapple Lanai sign But every now and then the skies part over this little slice of paradise and something truly heavenly descends from the clouds! Today was one of those days! You see, they’re now serving a special float called the Polynesian Lava You! While this sounds a lot like the I Lava You Float from Sunshine Tree Terrace, we promise they’re different! Polynesian Lava You The Polynesian Lava You is a pineapple Dole Whip soft-serve float with passion fruit, orange, and guava juice — that’s right, friends! This thing is loaded with POG Juice, a.k.a the nectar of the tiki gods which you’ll find at a few other spots around Disney World including ‘Ohana and Tusker House in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Polynesian Lava You The non-alcoholic version costs $5.99, but you can also get it served with a shot of coconut rum for $15.25! We’re not really sure why it comes on the side, but we like that it gives us some options! You can either swig it back or pour it over the top of your Polynesian Lava You — it’s your island oasis! Coconut Rum The Polynesian Lava You also comes topped with popping candy! We thought the Polynesian Lava You was truly delicious! It’s very tart and fruity but not too sweet. Just as we suspected, when the POG Juice mixed with pineapple Dole Whip it was a symphony of flavors almost as enchanting as the Tiki Room itself! Polynesian Lava You We gotta say, we LAVA this one even more than the I Lava You Float from Sunshine Terrace in Magic Kingdom! We’re not sure if the Polynesian Lava You will be sticking around for very long, so if you’re a dreamer like us and have always fantasized about a concoction such as this, hurry down to Disney’s Polynesian Resort pronto! Are you excited about trying the Polynesian Lava You? Let us know in the comments below if you’ll be getting it! Related posts: Review! We Just Ate the INSANE Turtle Cinnamon Roll in Disney World! 12. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the classic film Cinderella, Disney World hasn’t held back when it comes to specialty treats. Early Morning at Cinderella Castle We’ve spotted a ton of sweet desserts celebrating this big birthday like the Glass Slipper Cupcake at Port Orleans Riverside or the Cinderella Cupcake at The Polynesian for example. Many of which these adorable treats have been topped with a chocolate glass slipper! We stopped by Everything POP Food Court at Pop Century Resort and we found yet ANOTHER Glass Slipper Cupcake! Glass Slipper Cupcake It instantly caught our attention and we knew we had to try it for ourselves! Glass Slipper Cupcake We appreciate the fact that many of the Cinderella cupcakes look so much alike, but each one brings something different to the table in terms of flavor. Glass Slipper Cupcake While we could say the decorative Glass Slipper is too sparkly and beautiful to eat, it’s made of white chocolate, so eat it we shall! As for the cupcake itself, it is a vanilla cupcake with lemon filling! Glass Slipper Cupcake The cake itself was moist and the vanilla and lemon gave a nice mixture of sweet and tart! The icing, however, was on the sweeter side, but hey, it’s a cupcake, so we weren’t too surprised! We also enjoyed the sugar crystals around the edges because they gave the cupcake a nice crunch. Glass Slipper Cupcake Overall, we can’t complain about the abundance of Cinderella sweet treats slowly but surely taking over Disney World! The Glass Slipper Cupcake can be yours at Pop Century Resort for $5.99, or with a Disney Dining Plan snack credit! See our Cinderella treat ranking here! Have you tried any of the new Cinderella treats? Which one has been your favorite so far? Let us know in the comments! 19. We’re over in Epcot with an exciting food update, and it isn’t about the Epcot International Festival of the Arts! Epcot’s Spaceship Earth If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen the many changes and construction updates as part of Epcot’s exciting transformation. Guests have been able to feast their eyes on these highly anticipated updates at The Epcot Experience, an Imagineering Exhibit in the Odyssey Events Pavilion. Epcot Experience Read More About The Epcot Experience HERE! And while previously, The Epcot Experience offered a few nibbles, its menu was limited to some standard snacks like Mickey Bars, Chips, and Mickey Pretzels. But due to The Electric Umbrella’s looming closure, the Eats at the Epcot Experience quick-service counter has introduced a few new eats! The Epcot Experience at the Odyssey Center Let’s take a peek at some of the new options you’ll now find at Eats at the Epcot Experience! Eats at the Epcot Experience Menu As you can see, Eats at the Epcot Experience’s menu has received a big upgrade in the way of Flatbreads, Salads, and Chicken Nuggets! We had worked up quite the appetite while exploring the park today, so we placed an order for a Pepperoni Flatbread, Sliced Turkey and Mozzarella Sandwich, a Chopped Salad with Chicken, and a Cookie Crunch Brownie for dessert! Our order was ready quickly since most of the Eats at the Epcot Experience food is pre-packaged and ready to go. Eats at the Epcot Experience For Flatbreads, you can choose from Cheese for $11.25 or Pepperoni for $11.75. We’re pepperoni peeps, so you know which one we went with! Unfortunately, our Pepperoni Flatbread was a little cold and kinda on the chewy side. The flavors were a little bland. While this would be a convenient way to satisfy a pizza craving, we’d probably go with a different option to get our pizza fix. You can find pizza at Sunshine Seasons and Via Napoli. Pepperoni Flatbread Next, we tried the Sliced Turkey and Mozzarella Sandwich for $11. It’s pre-made and served on a brioche roll with sundried tomato aioli and chips. This is very similar to the Chicken Prosciutto Mozzarella Sandwich that’s sold at Electric Umbrella. Sliced Turkey and Mozzarella Sandwich The sundried tomato aioli was zippy and sweet. The tanginess of it reminded us a little of pizza sauce, which we didn’t mind. While we enjoyed the toppings on the sandwich, it really could have used more of them. The sandwich is $11 and should be a quick and easy bite if you’re in a hurry! Sliced Turkey and Mozzarella Sandwich We also ordered the Chopped Salad with Chicken for $11.75, which very similar to the Energy Salad with Roasted Chicken at Electric Umbrella. It includes mixed greens, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, cranberries, and agave lime vinaigrette. You can also order this without chicken for $9.50. The chicken tasted really good but the dressing was a little sweet for our liking and we actually when back and got a second dressing since our salad was a little dry with just one. The cranberries and apples were really yummy too. They were fresh and worked well with the dressing. Chopped Salad with Chicken Lastly, we chowed down on the Cookie Crunch Brownie for $5. This is also served at Electric Umbrella, but it costs $4.79. It’s a chocolate brownie with crushed pieces of Oreos and white chocolate drizzle on top. Cookie Crunch Brownie If you like rich, chocolatey desserts that aren’t too sweet we think you might enjoy the Cookie Crunch Brownie. But just to warn you, it does have a really fudgy texture. It was sticking to the roof of our mouths and teeth! Our Oreos were a little soft, but the white chocolate drizzle complimented the flavors of the brownie nicely. Cookie Crunch Brownie As we pointed out, many of these options are very similar or the same as menu items being served at Electric Umbrella. It is important to remember that Electric Umbrella is set to close sometime soon, so Eats at the Epcot Experience is kind of stepping up to make sure guests have quick and easy eats. Taste Track Burgers and Fries is also should also be opening soon so guests have more dining options. Overall With so many other quick-service options and Festival food booths throughout Epcot’s World Showcase, there’s a lot of options to choose from that we’d probably pick over Eats at Epcot Experience, like Sunshine Seasons or one of the many places in the World Showcase for example. But if you’re short on time and need to grab a quick bite, Eats at the Epcot Experience could be an ace up your sleeve! What do you think of the new menu at the Eats at the Epcot Experience? 25. What happens when the 50th anniversary of Earth Day AND the 25th anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund converge on the same day? Of course – we throw a party! And you’re invited! From April 18-22, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will host special entertainment and activities throughout the park – culminating in an all-day extravaganza on Earth Day (April 22). Each day of festivities includes a stellar lineup of expert speakers and entertainment; behind-the-scenes tours; specialty food and beverage; limited-edition merchandise signings; character greetings; photo opportunities; special Wilderness Explorers activities for kids – and MORE! Throughout the week, in the Wild by Nature Speaker Series, you will get to hear from some of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s animal experts, educators and conservation “Heroes” at the park’s Theater in the Wild – learning about the ways Disney’s own conservation experts are working to save the planet and its wildlife. And if that weren’t big enough, we’ve invited our new Disney colleagues at National Geographic to join in the fun. Nat Geo Explorers and Photographers will share their stories from the front lines of their explorations as well as wildlife photography and video techniques – showcasing what it takes to get all those stunning “never-before-seen” images and footage. They will join the outstanding roster of the Wild by Nature Speaker Series, and we will debut National Geographic merchandise at Disney Parks that week as well. Get an insider’s view from our own Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde – one of the driving forces behind the past, present and future of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Joe will delight guests again this year with his Tiffins Talks featuring a spectacular four-course meal and lively discussion on Joe’s research trips and personal exhibitions from a life dedicated to exploration. [Note: Registration for this dining experience will begin February 18.] You can get a unique look at this year’s Disneynature films debuting on Disney+ in April, Elephantand Dolphin Reef, including discussions with Roy Conli, award-winning producer of the films. Earth Day 2020 just happens to be the 25th Anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund. As Disney Parks Blog readers know, The Walt Disney Company is committed to ensuring a world where wildlife thrives and nature is treasured, and the Disney Conservation Fund has been a huge part of that effort, especially at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As part of the celebration, the Disney Conservation Fund will showcase 25 global wildlife heroes, many of whom will present Stories from the Field and recount incredible moments in their work – saving at-risk wildlife around the world – from elephants and rhinos in Africa, to tamarins and anteaters in South America. Many of these stories will be featured in “Disney Conservation Legacy,” a new special edition 25th anniversary book, available for purchase in the park during the Earth Day celebration. At the Animation Experience at Conservation Station, you will uncover the secret of how Disney animators bring your favorite characters to life – using real life animals as inspiration; and there will be special Disney characters featured for the Earth Day Celebration! On Earth Day, if you can’t make it out to the park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom also will be one of the places featured in the global live television event “BORN WILD: EARTH DAY LIVE,” simulcast on National Geographic and Nat Geo WILD on April 22, at 8/7c. Produced along with ABC News, the special features revered National Geographic Explorers and leading ABC News anchors and correspondents who will take viewers on a journey into the most fascinating, breathtaking environments around the world to witness and celebrate the diversity and splendor of charismatic baby animals, their families and habitats. These are just a few of the festivities we have in store for Earth Day 2020. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more information about the Earth Day celebrations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
