Fans of Disney and Pixar’s “Coco” rejoice! The tender story and vibrant music of one of my favorite movies returned to EPCOT as part of the entertainment offerings of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. Mariachi Cobre Presents…the Story of Coco is presented at the Mexico pavilion courtesy of course of the incomparable Mariachi Cobre. The beloved story of Disney Pixar’s “Coco” comes to life in the show where Mariachi Cobre, joined by Folklórico dancers, tell the story of Miguel and his love of music, and his journey to find what matters most – his familia. The dancers perform to the music of the film, pulling everyone into the celebration, and Miguel himself appears in the form of a whimsical, hand-crafted puppet. This joyous celebration is performed several times a day during the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival at the Mexico pavilion in World Showcase. We love sniffing out those secret menu items at Disney World because it makes us feel like some real old-timey detectives. Our latest pursuit lead us right to Barcelona Lounge at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort! Barcelona Lounge at Coronado Springs Resort We have tried their Cranberry and Blood Orange Sangria and Passion Fruit Sangria and we followed the clues to another secret menu drink at the lounge right now! Barcelona Lounge is switching things up on us by serving a Melon Margarita this time instead continuing the sangria train. Very crafty, but luckily — we’re big fans of margs, too! Melon Margarita Ingredients This drink is not for the feint of heart. You can definitely taste the tequila and the melon flavor was more subtle. We would have liked a little more of the Midori Melon Liquer to help balance out the tequila because it was strong! Melon Margarita Because it was more tart than sweet, we were so thankful for the sugar rim on this margarita instead of the traditional salt. It added a little extra sweetness that we felt helped round the drink out. Melon Margarita If you want to take on the Melon Margarita, you can find it at the Barcelona Lounge for $16. Hurry though, because if this drink is like the rest of the secret menu beverages, it may disappear without a trace at the end of the month! Go behind the scenes of the first-of-its-kind attraction with a two-part special event, brought to you exclusively by D23: The Official Disney Fan Club! At 9 a.m. PT, a special episode of D23 Inside Disney will be on site at the attraction’s grand opening, talking with the Imagineers and creative minds to bring you inside this wild ride for a spin into Mickey’s cartoon universe! Then, Walt Disney Imagineering will open up their doors for a special “From Sketch to Reality” program, in which Imagineers behind the ride, including Charita Carter and Kevin Rafferty, pull back the curtain during a fascinating chat that reveals some of the twists and turns of this wacky attraction. The brand new attraction Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has officially opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While we’ve already given you a FIRST LOOK at the attraction and the merch, it’s time to step inside. Runaway Railway We will also keep you up-to-date on opening day lines and the grand opening of the new Mickey Shorts Theater! Be sure to be on the lookout as we will be updating this post throughout the DAY so be sure to check back! We showed up around 6:10 this morning to find a pretty hefty crowd of people had already gathered. Opening day crowds Here’s a look behind us! While this hasn’t been totally unusual since the grand opening of Rise of the Resistance, it was still a larger group of people waiting to enter the park! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Crowds We were allowed into the park at 6:51 AM and were able to hop in line for the ride immediately. It was up and running for guests to ride before the official park opening at 8 AM. Runaway Railway We have seen the wait time fluctuate between 180 minutes and 300 minutes. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Crowds Currently, the wait time is 300 minutes…that’s 5 HOURS! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway wait time This new attraction allows guests to follow Mickey and Minnie into the zany cartoon world. Tonight, Disney’s Hollywood Studios threw a red-carpet premiere nearly a century in the making with a special dedication ceremony for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – opening to the public tomorrow, March 4, here at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a crowning achievement in the multiyear transformation of Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” said Walt Disney World Resort President Josh D’Amaro, who participated in the ceremony along with Mickey, Minnie and lots of other Disney pals. “What was once a theme park that took you behind the scenes, now puts you in the center of your favorite stories.” Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride-through attraction in Disney history starring Mickey and Minnie. You’re invited inside the park’s re-creation of the Chinese Theatre to see the premiere of “Perfect Picnic,” a new “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short written by Walt Disney Imagineering and produced by Disney Television Animation. With a little Disney magic, suddenly you’re taken through the movie screen and into the “Mickey Mouse” cartoon world, where “mouse rules apply” and anything can – and does! – happen. Engineer Goofy invites you aboard Runnamuck Railroad to join Mickey and Minnie on their search for the perfect picnic spot in Runnamuck Park. And with Goofy at the controls, what could possibly go wrong? Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a vibrant, joyous adventure the whole family will enjoy – from grandparents to grandchildren and everyone in between. The wait is almost over! Tomorrow, March 4th, is the official grand opening of the newest attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway sign Earlier today, we got to ride the attraction for the first time and we are thrilled for Mickey and Minnie to have their own ride in Disney World! As we count down the hours to the attractions official debut, we’re coming at you live from tonight’s dedication ceremony in Hollywood Studios! Disney World’s president, Josh D’Amaro, headed up the event with a heartfelt dedication speech thanking everyone who had dedicated their time and energy to bring this attraction to life. Runaway Railway Dedication Ceremony Mickey and Minnie made an appearance because they are the stars of the show, of course! And their friends Goofy Pluto, Donald, and Daisy wouldn’t miss celebrating such a special day either! It has been a loooong winter and we are already dreaming of warm spring days! Welcome to the Grand Floridian With the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival on the horizon, we aren’t the only ones with spring time on our minds! And today we spotted a new cupcake full of bright spring colors and flavors over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa that could put you in the spirit of spring too! We found the adorable Butterfly Cupcake at Gasparilla Island Grill in the Grand Floridian! Butterfly Cupcake It is made with an orange scented cake, filled with orange custard, and topped with vanilla frosting — and all we can say is WOW. Butterfly Cupcake It tasted just as wonderful as it looked! The cake was moist and had the perfect amount of orange flavor coming through. The cake paired well with the vanilla frosting and really let the orange flavor shine — but the filling MADE this cupcake. Butterfly Cupcake It was a true, creamy custard but the best part was how they blended actual oranges in so you get bursts of juice and a little texture with each bite. There was a great ratio of frosting to cake to custard and we only wish we would have ordered one for the road! Butterfly Cupcake You can grab your own citrusy treat for $5.99 at Gasparilla Island Grill! We hope the Butterfly Cupcake doesn’t fly away anytime soon, because we would happily come back for more! Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort has no shortage of great places to dine at! Sangria Flight & Mexican Street Corn Dip at Three Bridges And while we’ve enjoyed several meals at Gran Destino Tower and Three Bridges, today we’re checking out the new menu at Rix Sports Bar & Grill! Rix Sports Bar & Grill is centrally-located at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort El Centro building directly across from the El Mercado de Coronado food court, formerly known as the Pepper Market. Rix Sports Bar and Grill In fact, El Centro got a major facelift a few years ago, back when Rix Sports Bar and Grill went by the simpler name, Rix Lounge! Rix Sports Bar & Grill This upscale eatery has replaced its loungy furniture with tables and chairs. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of TVs to watch some of your favorite sports while you enjoy classic bar bites and beverages! They have recently been making a few changes to the menu, so let’s check it out. It looks like the Crispy Calamari, Sticky Ginger Ribs, and Corn Chowder have all gone away. In their place, there are some new offerings including Thai Shrimp, Fried Mozzarella, Lettuce Wraps, Caesar Salad, and Tomato Bisque soup! Luckily, it appears the WATCHOS have stayed untouched — these are waffle fries served with nacho-style toppings! Rix Sports Bar and Grill New Menu Read our full review of the WATCHOS here! We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if the Lemon Pepper Chicken was your favorite entrée to order at Rix, it’s no longer on the menu. There IS, however a new Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Turkey Burger, and Florida Grouper Sandwich, along with a new Black & Bleu Burger (featuring bleu cheese crumbles!) as well as a vegetarian-friendly Beyond Burger! Rix has also rolled out a new Soup and Half Sandwich combo for folks who want the best of both worlds! Rix Sports Bar and Grill New Menu Our ears perked up though when we heard our server say the words Rix Rueben! It’s the signature sandwich of the updated Rix menu, and we suddenly knew EXACTLY what we’d be enjoying for lunch! Rix Rueben The new Rix Rueben costs $17.50 and it might be one of the tastiest sandwiches we’ve ever tried at Rix! We gotta warn ya though, our meat was pretty fatty, but the gristle was easy enough to remove if you’re not a fan. The sauerkraut, dressing and rye bread were also super yummy! Plus, there was a PILE of cheesy goodness on this thing! We wish you could have seen the cheese-PULL! It was THAT cinematic! Rix Rueben The waffle fries were really tasty and well seasoned as well — and SUPER crispy — verging on too crunchy. And in all, we walked away from Rix Sports Bar and Grill today feeling VERY satisfied! We love stopping by Craftsman Grill in the Grand Californian Hotel in Disneyland Resort to check out the spot’s Hot Dog of the Month. And while there is always some element of surprise, we must admit that the new March Hot Dog of the Month is truly unexpected. Craftsman Grill Sign Get ready for Le Waf Dog… which is a hot dog tucked inside a Belgian Waffle. Yep. Come see what we’re talking about… Hot Dog of the Month sign The sign claims that this dog is “good at any time of the day,” featuring ingredients known for breakfast AND for lunch or dinner. The Most Important Meal of the Day is represented by the Belgian Waffle (providing the “bun”), along with bacon dust, maple raspberry sauce, and a lemon cream dollop. Le Waf Dog Lunch and dinner, on the other hand, is represented by the HOT DOG baked within the aforementioned Belgian Waffle. Le Waf Dog Okay, so here’s the thing: it’s not like somewhat similar combos haven’t met with great success, like the always-awesome chicken and waffles, or the terrific pairing of pancakes with maple syrup and sausage. Le Waf Dog And, honestly, once you get past the surprise factor here, Le Waf Dog isn’t that bad. The waffle itself? It’s solid. But does is make the best bun for the dog? I don’t know… this one might just be a little too much of a stretch. Plus, have you ever thought to yourself, “I wonder if hot dogs with lemon cream is a winning combination?” Le Waf Dog Well, wonder no more. Because, as it turns out… not so much! But we’ll give it this: Le Waf Dog is actually a perfect reminder of why Craftsman Grill keeps us coming again and again to see — and taste! — their latest Hot Dog of the Month creations. Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel has really been knocking it out of the park lately! Craftsman Bar and Grill Souvenir Mug Not only can you score the new Craftsman Bar and Grill Souvenir Mug (which totally reminds us so much of this fine dining establishment!) but now it’s also the home of a returning treat! In fact, Craftsman Bar and Grill are no strangers when it comes to celebrating St Patrick’s Day! Last year, they were serving a lucky St. Paddy’s Day Cupcake which featured a GREEN colored cake and topped with marshmallow fluff! We ventured back to the Craftsman Grill today to see if this seasonal treat had returned… and we were in LUCK because it had! St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake But even though the St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake has decided to make a comeback, (and looks very similar to the 2019 version), this year it’s VERY different! St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake You’ll notice to sugar decorations including the lucky horseshoe and jaunty little hat are the same, along with the two chocolate coins that comprise Mickey’s ears! St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake But this year the St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake is a vanilla cupcake (which is NOT dyed green this year — which we happen to prefer!) along with a lemon-flavored frosting (which replaced the marshmallow fluff from last year)! St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake What’s even more shocking is when we cut into the new St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake, we revealed its secret surprise — a POT ‘O GOLD! Or maybe we should say a pot ‘o green? We asked a Cast Member why there were little grayish-green pebbles inside and were told they were supposed to resemble gold. They DID have a slight golden shimmer thanks to some edible glitter, but it seemed like a stretch to say we’d struck it rich! The “gold” also had a light lemony taste and the flavors of the St. Patrick’s Day Cupcake blended together quite well. All in all, we think it’s a tasty, enjoyable treat to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day with! We’re grabbing our trademark fedora and setting out to find the ANOTHER treasure at The Tropical Hideaway! Tropical Hideaway at Disneyland To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Indiana Jones Adventure, we’ve been unearthing all of the special treats (like the Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl we discovered earlier!) And now we’re onto the archaeological find of the century — and this one’s got to be shaken, not stirred (wait a minute — that’s the wrong movie franchise…). X never, ever marks the spot (or so we’re told) but today we’ve followed the map to the Noodle Shaker Salad, another Indiana Jones-inspired snack! It’s made with cold vermicelli noodles, chopped pieces of carrot, bits of kelp (which is a type of seaweed), beets, ginger, scallions, and wontons. This salad is served up in a shaker-style cup for maximum dressing coverage! Noodle Shaker Salad Speaking of dressing, you can top off your chilled noodles with the vinaigrette provided which includes a tasty mix of soy and yuzu flavors. Noodle Shaker Salad Not being the hugest fans of chilled noodles, we still thought all the components had great flavor when they all blended together. The vinaigrette was super mild without being too salty and the Noodle Shaker Salad made for a nice, light refreshing snack! D-Luxe Burger We’ve got some food and merch updates from Disney Springs, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian Village, and Grand Floridian here, so we better get moving! Lots of random places….but hey, there were lots of new goodies! Disney Springs Food Update D-Luxe Burger St. Patrick’s Day is almost here and D-Luxe Burger is getting into the Irish spirit with two new food items. They have a Dubliner Burger for $13.49 that is THICK. I mean just look at this baby! Dubliner Burger You can wash the burger down with their Irish Cream Shake for $7.50. Indiana Jones Adventure We’ve already seen a new Dole Whip Float drift onto the menu at The Tropical Hideaway along with a new PB & J Mochi, Sweet Lumpia, and Loco Moco Bao, and today we’re here to excavate all the newly released Indy-treats that are now at Disneyland honoring the 25th anniversary of Indiana Jones Adventure! No need to crack the whip! We’re already hustlin’ ourselves over to The Tropical Hideaway to try the new Indiana Jones Adventure-inspired Specialty Loaded Whip! Indiana Jones Adventure Specialty Loaded Whip And when they say “loaded,” they mean LOADED. For $7.99, this Pineapple-Raspberry Dole Whip treat comes topped with chocolate sauce, Oreo crumbles, gummy worms — err, gummy snakes (“Why’d it have to be snakes?”)… Indiana Jones Adventure Specialty Loaded Whip … chocolate-dipped cookie sticks, AND a mango-strawberry fruit blend. Whew! Indiana Jones Adventure Specialty Loaded Whip Oh! And the entire thing comes complete with a chocolate cake pop, too! Sounds like a lot going on, huh? That’s because it totally is. But the chocolate and fruit flavors work surprisingly well together! And the textures from the many toppings lend a whole lot of fun variety. (Plus, there are fruit bits for vitamins to fuel you on your upcoming Indy-inspired adventures .) Indiana Jones Adventure Specialty Loaded Whip The addition of the cake pop, by the way, was truly inspired, because what better way to “top” off a treat-topped-treat than with yet another treat? Chocolate Cake Pop The chocolate cake pop is really dense and fudgy, with the expected fun crunch that comes from the chocolate shell. Though the Specialty Rib Bowl at Bengal Barbecue is one of the Indiana Jones-themed treats that didn’t meet our expectations, the Specialty Loaded Whip surpassed them! But take heed, Adventurers… this treat along with the other exclusive Indiana Jones goodies are only available from March 3rd through March 8th, so don’t delay! In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Indiana Jones Adventure, Disneyland is currently under siege with several super-limited time only Indy-inspired menu items! Indiana Jones Adventure These offerings are only available starting today until March 8th, so you’ll need Short Round to really step on it to get you here in time to try them! And while we’re also on the search for the the Indiana Jones Dole Whip (in fair trade for one cursed idol) we’re starting with the specialty rib bowl! The new Indiana Jones Adventure specialty Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl is said to be lurking at Bengal Barbecue, an Adventureland hotbed of delicious skewered meat-activity! Bengal Barbecue sign The new bowl features ribs glazed with a Cantonese barbecue sauce, served on a bed of steamed rice and costs $16.99. (By the way, during our visit, a sign wasn’t out for this offering; however, we did find it listed on Mobile Order on the Disneyland app.) Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl And it looks like “fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and GLORY! This belongs in a MUSEUM!” Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl But the taste? Weeelllll…. the dish is nicely seasoned, but the dial could still be turned up on the flavor. The barbecue sauce selected to baste the ribs is even a little bit bland. And the fact that the accompaniment is simply steamed white rice doesn’t add much in the flavor department. If you do choose this dish during your own Indiana-inspired adventure, we’d highly recommended grabbing some of the available packets of soy sauce to go with it. Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl And the ribs themselves weren’t of the fall-off-the-bone variety. On the upside, the portion is decent, considering that Bengal Barbecue specializes primarily in skewer snacks. But altogether, the Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl is… underwhelming. BUT! There are two things more to mention: first, see the Official Alphabet of Mara Decoder card next to our dish? Char Siu Pork Rib Rice Bowl Though you may have luck in additional locations, we’ve seen them being handed out here at Bengal Barbecue and also Adventureland Bazaar! And second, there are more Indiana Jones Adventure treats in store to check out, and we’ll have them coming for you soon to see if things turn around, taste-wise, during today’s epic adventure… so stay tuned! We marked our calendars and have been getting pumped for opening day of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios — which btw, is TOMORROW! Vacation Fun Sign But we recently found out that there is more than one reason to celebrate because March 4th is ALSO opening day of the Mickey Shorts Theater! Today we’re are taking you with us to get a sneak peek of this new experience at Disney World, along with a new Mickey Mouse cartoon — Vacation Fun! The new Mickey Shorts Theater is housed in the building formerly occupied by Star Wars: Path of the Jedi. It’s got a cute new sign out front and its the only place to catch the exclusive new animated short film, Vacation Fun! Mickey Shorts Theater Stepping inside the freshly reimagined space, we really adore what they’ve done with the place! The room isn’t overly massive, and it’s got a distinctly cozy charm to it! We chalk some of that Disney charisma up to the new theater seats which look like they’re wearing Mickey’s pants! So adorable! Mickey Shorts Theater As for the new short itself, the plot of Vacation Fun follows the musing of Mickey Mouse as he packs for a trip and reminisces about past vacations he’s been on. We weren’t really big fans of Vacation Fun. The humor felt a little off for us — it’s very slapstick and the content has a much more modern feel to it than the retro, classic Mickey cartoons, but definitely check it out for yourself at least once and see what you think! Mickey Shorts Theater Afterward, you’ll head out of the theater and be met with several photo ops based on some of the other Mickey shorts! We gotta say, Potatoland’s photo opp really stood out to us! I mean, you can get your photo taken with THE Potato! Potatoland Photo Opp There’s also this cute setup taken from the Mickey short Panda-monium! We promise the cute little panda will let you capture a picture of him this time — unlike in the cartoon! Pandamonium Photo Opp We also love this Yodelburg set-up with Minnie’s mountain top chalet visible off in the distance! Yodelburg Photo Opp Of course, there’s also a little shop where you can find some Mickey and Minnie merch available for purchase, ya know, just in case you need a pair of Classic Minnie Ears or plush toy to pose with! Holy moly!! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway officially opens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios TOMORROW. Can you believe it?! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway While we have already shown you a glimpse into what to expect from the attraction, it’s now time to talk all things merch! A while back we gave you a sneak peek at some of the merchandise that would be released for the new ride. And today, we’ve had the opportunity to check out even more! So, let’s get this merch party started. Runaway Railway Toys Remember the Wooden Whistle that popped up at a few locations around the World a while back? Well, you should expect to see it popping up at many more locations starting tomorrow. Wooden Whistle The whistle re-creates the sound made by the attractions’ Runnamuck Railroad locomotive and comes with a strap so you can wear it around your neck! Whistle There’s also a Pull-Back Toy of the Runnamuck Railroad locomotive which doubles as the attraction’s ride vehicle! Pull Back Toy You can also find a Light-Up Glow Spinner that plays the rides theme song — “Nothing Can Stop Us Now.” It’s swirling, cyclonic activity is also something you might see on the new ride — just sayin’!
