As sea turtles are often regarded as sentinels of the ocean, it is only fitting that World Oceans Day is followed by World Sea Turtle Day. Sea turtles captivate us and spark our sense of discovery for the ocean wonders beyond the waves. From the way they gracefully glide through the water – or in Crush’s case, cruise along the EAC- to how they suddenly appear on land after 30 years at sea to lay their eggs and renew the sea turtle life cycle, sea turtles symbolize harmony and serenity in an increasingly chaotic world. While all seven species of sea turtles are either threatened or endangered, there is much we all can do- and are doing- to save them. Disney Conservation Team Wildlife starts by helping the sea turtles in our own backyard – the beautiful east coast of Florida near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. Our sea turtle field conservation program, begun in 2003, has grown significantly over the years. More than 50 cast members contribute their time and expertise annually, providing meaningful experiences for more than 40,000 Disney Vacation Club Members and guests. Since our program’s inception, we have documented nearly 17,000 nests from three sea turtle species and recently celebrated the millionth baby sea turtle hatched on our five-mile stretch of beach. As I write this post, sea turtle nesting season is in full swing here in Florida and the ladies have been busy! We are thrilled to see an increase in both leatherback, our rarest species, and loggerhead sea turtle nests. Check out our current nest numbers below! In these challenging times, Team Wildlife remains committed to our critical conservation work. Our small, but mighty team of scientists has been on the beach every day this summer conducting sea turtle nest surveys and marking nests to help protect them. .Based on the number of loggerhead nests we find in Florida, one might think that loggerheads are common. In fact, loggerheads are rapidly declining in many other critical habitats worldwide. We are fortunate that so many turtles nest on beaches near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and we take our responsibility for conserving them very seriously. Part of our work is evaluating the many potential threats they face – like disturbance during nesting, coastal armoring such as seawalls, artificial light pollution on nesting beaches, plastic pollution, and bycatch and entanglement from fisheries gear. We even monitor our own sea turtle walk program to ensure that it doesn’t negatively impact our turtles. We are proud of our work on the threats to sea turtles, but know that we can contribute even more. We must take action individually, in our communities, and worldwide. And Disney is doing just that. We have outfitted Disney’s Vero Beach Resort with sea turtle-friendly lighting to ensure nesting females and hatchlings do not become disoriented on their way back to sea. Additionally, the Disney Conservation Fund has helped protect six species of sea turtles by providing nearly $4 million to support community conservation programs around the world including the TREE Foundation’s sea turtle conservation program in India, the Sea Turtle Conservancy’s Tortuguero program – longest running sea turtle research program in the world, and the Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research at the University of Florida, which is working to reverse the decline of Florida’s sea turtles. (Credit from left to right: TREE Foundation, Sea Turtle Conservancy, and Alan Bolten) What can you do to protect sea turtles on this World Sea Turtle Day and beyond? Here are some ideas to get you started: Minimize your use of single use plastic, and dispose properly of all trash. All waterways lead to the ocean, and plastic floating in city canals eventually ends up in the sea. Turn your lights off at night. Even if you don’t live near the beach, many wildlife species like birds and bats rely on dark skies to navigate safely. Choose sustainably sourced seafood. If you’re not sure how to do this, download the Seafood Watch Guide app created by our friends at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.Share your love for sea turtles with others! Passion for nature is contagious. Learn more about sea turtles by visiting Disney Animals, checking out @DrMarkAtDisney for all things animals, science and environment, and following @DisneyConservation’s #BigBlueWorld series on Instagram to learn more about the conservation work we do and support in the big ol’ blue!View the full article

Our thirst is about to be quenched thanks to these two fruity beers we discovered at Morimoto Asia Street Food at The Landing of Disney Springs! Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to Morimoto we go! Say it with us…POG JUICE! That’s right – that undeniable mix of passion fruit, orange, and guava juices we’ve talked about before is available in a boozy form thanks to the Tiki Gods over at Kona Brewing Co! We’ve been lucky enough to see spiked versions of POG Juice at Dawa Bar in Animal Kingdom and as a Frozen Slushie at Kona Island in Disney’s Polynesian Resort, but it’s always exciting when we see one of our favorite citrusy flavors in beer form at Disney Springs. Oh, my POG! The Hanalei Island IPA is a refreshing, fruit-forward IPA created in honor of the lush Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Fun fact: Hanapepe in Kauai was also the inspiration for the setting in Lilo & Stitch! Speaking of Stitch…This Might Be The Funniest Merch We’ve Spotted At Disney Springs! We also spotted the Yuzu Lager, which is a classic lager with a Japanese citrus twist. Who, me? No, Yuzu! This beer from Kiuchi Brewery gives notes of grapefruit and mandarin orange, mixed with a traditional crisp lager to keep that deep flavor present. Check out some of our FAVORITE Morimoto Street Food Menu Items here! These sure do sound tasty, even we are having a hard time deciding which to go with. I guess we just have to order both! Actually, throw some Morimoto Baby Ribs in there too, please! Have you tried either of these beers yet? Let us know what you thought in the comments below! At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, it is my privilege to work with an incredible team of cast members to help share the magic with our guests. Over the past few months, we’ve been moved by your understanding and patience as we navigated an unprecedented closure. During this time, we took measured steps to maintain guest offerings at our hotels, with adjusted levels of service, and in May we reopened additional dining experiences. Today, as our surrounding community takes steps towards recovery, I’m thrilled to announce that Hong Kong Disneyland will also reopen to the public on June 18. We are proud to be part of the Hong Kong community, which has worked hard and shown fortitude in how it has handled the pandemic. As we carefully welcome guests back to our park, we will draw on the learnings from the recent reopening of Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World. Similarly, we will also implement new and enhanced health and safety measures following the guidance of our local government and health care officials. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to read the recent blog post from the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel to learn more about our approach. While some things will look and feel different than before, the magic continues and we’re excited to once again share our park with you because the magic begins with you. During this initial reopening phase, the park will open with limited attendance. The park will implement social distancing requirements in queues, restaurants, attraction vehicles and at other facilities throughout the park, and will increase the frequency of sanitization and disinfection in high-guest contact areas. As Hong Kong becomes the second Disney park to reopen, the rest of the Disney Parks family around the world continues to believe in magic and prepare for their own reopening moments. Like us they’re eager to welcome guests back to reunite with family and friends – to imagine all that is possible regardless of the situation, to celebrate postponed milestones and to make magical, new memories. We’re also thrilled to share a sneak peek of magic in the making as we enter into the final stage of our Castle of Magical Dreams transformation, which will be a magnificent centerpiece of the park. Stay tuned for more Disney Parks news and stories from Hong Kong Disneyland on reopening day! And remember, you can always experience the magic of Disney from anywhere you are on DisneyMagicMoments.com and share your stories with #DisneyMagicMoments on social media. See you real soon! There are a LOT of ways that dining is going to look different when Disney World resort hotels reopen on June 22nd. Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast a la Art Characters In addition to required face coverings, reduced contact menus, and cashless payments, guests are going to see different menu items, and one of the FIRST Disney World restaurants to reopen is already showing trimmed-down offerings. Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera at Disney’s Riviera Resort is showing a smaller menu on Disney World’s website. The menu at Topolino’s Terrace One of the biggest changes comes at breakfast. The shared pastries (Chocolate-Chip Muffin, Epi Bread, Croissant, Seasonal Danish, House-made Jam, Honey Butter, Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread) are no longer featured on the menu. Breakfast a la Art Pastries For breakfast entrees, the menu has been reduced from nine items to six, with the Croissant au Jambon, Spiced Sausage Hash, and Wood-fired Butchers Steak gone. Meanwhile, the Quiche Gruyere, Two Eggs Any-Style, Wild Mushroom Scramble, Sour Cream Waffle, Smoked Salmon, and Fruit Plate remain. ©Disney This is a BIG deal, because the menu offerings and an entire course have been eliminated, but the price of a breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace has actually gone up, changing from $41 to $42 per adult, and from $24 to $27 for children aged 3 to 9. Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast a la Art Menu But, guests may be willing to pay the price. After all, we previously reported that Topolino’s Terrace breakfast will be the ONLY character dining experience at Walt Disney World when it reopens, making it a likely hot ticket. Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast a la Art Characters The dinner menu also looks quite reduced. Previously, there were 11 antipasto and starter dishes offered, but now just four remain: Olives Marinees, Ricotta, Beets Barigoule, and Romaine Insalata. ©Disney As for entrees, the menu shows just six options: Rigatoni, Linguine Scampi, Classic Sole Meuniere, Braised Lamb Shank, Filet Mignon, and Tarbais Bean Cassoulet. Menu items such as the Bouillabaisse, Herb Fettucine, Tomahawk Veal Chop and others are gone. ©Disney Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake, Pistachio Mousse, and Fruits of the Forest are still available for dessert. However, the Apple Tarte Tatin, Profiteroles, and the House Fromage Board are gone. ©Disney It’s important to note, that while the menu is looking very different, it could change again prior to reopening! This is the first menu change we’ve seen at the Walt Disney World Resorts ahead of select hotels reopening on June 22nd, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom’s reopening on July 11th, and EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopening on July 15th. If more menus are slimmed down, you know we’ll fill you in on all the details! For ALL of the changes coming to Disney dining this summer, click here.
