We’ve learned a LOT about Disney World’s theme park reopenings this week. Buzz Lightyear Since Disney announced that many of our favorite entertainment options would be unavailable (shows, parades, and character meet and greets) we’ve been wondering how we’ll interact with characters and performers in the reopened parks. Yesterday, we learned that characters will be VERY present in the reopened parks, and today, we’ve got even MORE info! Yesterday’s news introduced the idea of special character cavalcades in Magic Kingdom, characters cruising through the waterways of Animal Kingdom, processions through Epcot, and motorcades through the streets of Hollywood Studios. “You never know when a party of your pals may come by, so be prepared for plenty of surprises!” Anna and Elsa at Epcot’s 2020 Flower and Garden Festival Now, Disney is getting even MORE specific about character interactions! You might have seen the way the Star Wars Stormtroopers are currently interacting with guests from a distance in Disney Springs; we’ll be seeing a lot more of that kind of encounter in the parks. Specific characters we might see include Buzz Lightyear after we rocket through space in Tomorrowland, a captive Jack Sparrow in Adventureland, Anna and Elsa venturing on a journey (“Into the Unknoooooown”) around World Showcase, and members of the Resistance hiding out in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge And music lovers, rejoice! Some classic musical acts will be returning, too. We already knew about the return of Mariachi Cobre and the JAMMitors in Epcot, but Disney also just announced that we’ll be seeing Main Street Philharmonic in Magic Kingdom too! We’re pretty excited about the return of some of our favorite characters and performers. It will be interesting to see how the modified experiences work in the park. We’re here to help you plan for a magical May vacation to Disney World! Epcot Flower and Garden We know from experience that there are LOTS of questions that come up when planning a Disney World vacation! And the time of year you choose to travel can have a big impact on what to expect on your trip! Here’s the important info you need to know to make the most out of your May Disney World vacation. Crowds at Disney World in May For most of the month, the crowds in Disney World will be fairly moderate. But that will all change towards the end of May! Memorial Day weekend usually brings heavy crowds to the parks — and since this is the unofficial kickoff of summer, attendance will typically stay pretty high for the next several months. Magic Kingdom So, if you have some flexibility in your travel dates, you’ll probably find shorter lines and more personal space if you visit in early or mid-May! Have no choice but to visit Disney World during the busy season? Check out our ultimate guide to surviving the busiest days in Disney World! Park Hours at Disney World in May On most days in May, the parks will open at 9AM. The parks also typically close at 9PM, with the exception of Magic Kingdom, which will frequently stay open until 10PM or 11PM, especially on the weekends. Cinderella Castle at Night While there can be some variations in the park schedules, guests can expect fairly consistent hours during the month of May! Looking for some late-night fun in the parks? Click here to check out our ultimate guide to the Villains After Hours events in Magic Kingdom! Weather at Disney World in May You’ll probably be greeted with some pretty warm weather if you visit Disney World this month! In May, the average high temperature is 88 degrees and the average low temperature is 69 degrees. Hollywood Studios May tends to be a relatively dry month, as far as Florida weather is concerned! There are an average of 6 rainy days in the month. Note that weather will likely become noticeably warmer toward the end of the month, which is another great reason to try to visit at the beginning of the month versus the end! Here are five hidden gems we bet you didn’t know you could do in Disney World — but you totally should! How to Pack for Disney World in May It usually starts to get pretty hot around this time of year, so don’t forget to pack your swimsuit if you plan to take advantage of the hotel pools! You might also want to bring some things to help you keep cool, like a personal fan, a cooling towel, or a shady hat! And it’s helpful to pack extra “basics” like t-shirts, underwear, and socks in case you sweat through them during the day. Riviera Resort Pool And if you prefer to wear sandals in the parks, opt for a quick-drying pair with a back strap. Trust us, it’s no fun trying to navigate the parks in a pair of wet, slippery flip-flops! Here are a few things you SHOULDN’T bring on your trip to Disney World! Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival runs during the whole month of May — so if your trip falls this month, you’ll have the chance to take it all in! Disney World Since the festival itself is named after the flowers, let’s start there! Guests will find over twenty topiary displays throughout the park, including some of their favorite characters all dressed up for the occasion (that is, in greenery!) Epcot Flower and Garden Topiaries But that’s not all! There are gorgeous displays around the park including a bamboo garden, butterfly garden, floating gardens, and more! Flower and Garden Festival Butterfly Haven And one of our favorite festival activities is eating and drinking our way around the Outdoor Kitchens, which are set up around the Promenade and World Showcase! While there are some fan-favorite menu items that we keep our fingers crossed will make their return every year, we also look forward to tasting the new additions too! A few highlights from previous years include the Crispy Citrus Chicken, Local Wildflower Honey-Mascarpone Cheesecake, and Grilled Street Corn on the Cob! Local Wildflower Honey Mascarpone Cheesecake And if you’re feeling even more inspired, you can check out one of the extra-cost special events or tours that are offered during the festival! In the past, we’ve seen options like the Royal Tea Garden Tour, Gardens of the World Tour, Egg-Stravaganza Scavenger Hunt, and more! Egg-Stravaganza Scavenger Hunt Or, if you’d prefer not to spend any extra cash on events, you can check out the Garden Rocks Concert Series! Hit musical acts from the 60s to today appear on stage in the America Adventure Pavilion. There are three nightly performances which are included in the cost of admission — just be sure to get there early because the concerts often fill up fast! On the other hand, if you’re in the mood for a meal and a show, you can opt for the Garden Rocks Dining Package, which includes dinner and guaranteed seating at the concert! Garden Rocks Concert So, whether you really want to work on your green thumb, prefer to just take in the gorgeous decor, or just really like to eat, there’s plenty to love about the Flower and Garden Festival. If you’re visiting Disney World in May, we’d say this festival is a must-do! Looking for more of our favorite festival foods? As we look forward to the reopening of Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in July, we’re excited to share a few details about the attractions and entertainment guests will be able to experience when they return. Though these may look a little different than in the past, there will be plenty of magic for everyone to enjoy when Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park open on July 11, and EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios open on July 15. Most attractions will be available at each park – for example, live your adventure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with attractions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. At Magic Kingdom Park, classics such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean are waiting to welcome guests with thrilling adventures for the whole family. Time travelers, take note that the iconic Spaceship Earth attraction at EPCOT will also continue to be available in its current state while we pause on its planned refurbishment, along with other favorite attractions like Soarin’ Around the World, Frozen Ever After and Test Track presented by Chevrolet. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the magic of nature awaits with Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain and Avatar Flight of Passage. If you’re hoping to see some familiar friends or take in the tunes of treasured performers, you’re in luck! Just as you may have seen recently at Disney Springs, our characters will appear in new and different ways that bring a smile to your face while also being mindful of physical distancing. From special cavalcades down the Magic Kingdom Park parade route and friends sailing the waterways of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, to processions along the World Showcase promenade at EPCOT and motorcades on Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Hollywood Boulevard, each area will come to life throughout the day. You never know when a party of your pals may come by, so be prepared for plenty of surprises! For example, after rocketing through space in Tomorrowland you might see that famous Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear; or discover a captive Captain Jack Sparrow as you traverse the Castillo del Morro on your way to Pirates of the Caribbean. You could cross paths with Queen Anna and Elsa as they venture “into the unknown” on a journey around World Showcase at EPCOT or spy members of the Resistance hiding out from the First Order throughout Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. Looking beyond our beloved characters, several musical groups will also return. You can look forward to seeing Main Street Philharmonic at Magic Kingdom Park, plus the Mariachi Cobre and everyone’s favorite funky drumming crew the JAMMitors at EPCOT, just to name a few. Read here for details on how to make a theme park reservation; and also check out important “Know Before You Go” information at DisneyWorld.com/Updates. We hope to see you back at the parks, making special memories in new ways. View the full article

There has been a LOT of Disney news on the docket from yesterday, but we just noticed something that Disney DIDN’T announce. 2020 Annual Passholder Magnet We’ve been fielding all sorts of Annual Pass news — options for the reopening phase, theme park reservation limits, Passholder preview days, and more. Now, though, we’re having some trouble accessing the purchase page for Annual Passes. Has Disney paused Annual Pass sales? Here’s what we’re seeing. We were on the Disney website last night checking out the latest updates when we went to check in on the Annual Pass page. Interestingly enough, we had some trouble. When we selected “Annual Passes” from the Disney World website menu… Disney World Website Menu …the page redirected us to the Experience Updates page! Um…WEIRD! The Experience Updates page has all the latest announcements from Disney about reopening procedures, but it doesn’t mention anything about Annual Passes being unavailable. Just a few days ago, the purchase portal was still open for Annual Passes, so it looks like something may have changed. Disney World Experience Updates Page We tried to get to the Annual Pass page from a few different links but to no avail. We always ended up right back on the good ol’ Experience Updates page. Could this mean that Disney has paused Annual Pass sales? We’re not sure. It very well could be one of those pesky Disney site glitches. Annual Passholder Chef Minnie Coaster We tried again this morning just to see if this was still the case. And we’re still being redirected from the Annual Pass page. Do keep in mind, Disney has paused other ticket sales as they roll out the new reservation system, which you can read more about here. Whatever the case, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Annual Pass news from Disney and you can bet we’ll keep trying to get to that purchase page. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more. Keep an eye on DFB for all the latest reopening updates! Click here to learn more about the options for Annual Passholders during Disney World’s reopening. Have you ever dreamed about bringing your ENTIRE family to Disney World? Pluto at Epcot’s 2020 Flower and Garden Festival You know, your grandparents, your spouse, the kiddos, and even the furriest members of your family? That’s right — we’re talking about not just the human members of your family, but ALSO man’s best friend! Did you even know bringing your pet to Disney World was possible!? Well, IT TOTALLY IS! Disney World Monorail Let’s explore all the options you have for bringing your pets along on your next trip to Disney World — we can just see their little furry faces right now lighting up with the thought of coming on your next trip with you instead of waiting back at home! Ever wanted to wear a matching Spirit Jersey with your pet? Now you CAN! Some Disney World Resorts Allow Dogs! Currently, there are four pet-friendly resorts at Disney World that permit guests to room and board with their doggos only (sorry, no cats, reptiles, or other pocket pets are permitted at this time). They are: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Campsites or The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort These resorts have special floors, sections, and blocks of rooms that are pre-assigned for guests staying with pets. Port Orleans — Riverside You’ll find they’re located with easy access to the outdoor pet relief areas and designated walking trails! If you’re a Disney dog-lover, you gotta see this Dooney and Bourke collection! Pet Cleaning Fee Each Disney World Resort that allows pets charges a nightly fee. If you are staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, or The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, it’s a charge of $50 per night plus tax. If you’re staying at Fort Wilderness Resort’s Campsites, it’s only $5 per night (it IS a campsite in the woods, after all). Welcome to Fort Wilderness! Guests with dogs staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will be charged $75 per night plus tax. Check out these adorable Disney snack-themed accessories for your pet here! What Rules Do We Need to Obey? Now that you know which Disney World resorts you and your dog are welcome to book, there are some rules for pet owners to know before they go! Must Provide Up-To-Date Vaccine Records Your dog must be current on its shots in order to stay at Disney World. Make sure you bring all the necessary health records and documentation from your vet with you in case Disney needs to see it. Hey There, Pluto! You’ll also be required to sign a “Pet Agreement” stating you’ll follow the hotel’s pet policies. Check out some of our favorite Nightmare Before Christmas-themed dog toys here! Bring Your Own Dog Food While dog-friendly Disney World Resorts will provide guests and their furry companions with Pluto’s Welcome Kit at check-in (which includes a feeding mat, bowls, plastic disposable bags, ID tag, puppy pads, dog walking mat, and a Pluto “Do Not Disturb” door hanger — contents may vary), pet owners are responsible for bringing their own dog food and treats. DogEatz Treatz Check out Disney’s newest line of dog and cat treats now available at the parks here! We’ve seen a few places around Disney World where dog collars, accessories, toys, and treats are sold, but a Cast Member confirmed for us dog food isn’t available for sale on the property, to their knowledge. If you don’t want to pack your dog’s kibble in your suitcase, you can always have some delivered to your resort ahead of time instead! Lady and the Tramp Dog Bowl You can have packages delivered to your resort up to a week before you arrive. Many popular dog food brands are available on Amazon, or you can order them from any major pet supply retailer. If you want, you can also choose to have them brought to you using a delivery service such as Instacart. Learn more about sending a package to your Disney World resort here! Other Doggy Rules Only two dogs are permitted per room, so if you’re rollin’ with more than that, some of your poochies might need to stay back at home. Another thing to keep in mind is that the majority of common areas at the resorts (even at the pet-friendly resorts we mentioned above) are off-limits to dogs except for service animals. Art of Animation Lobby Only service animals are allowed through lobbies, pool areas, restaurants, or guest hallways. Instead, each hotel has several designated areas for pets such as walking trails as well as green spaces for “pet relief.” These will be designated on your resort’s map. Cars Building at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Check out these adorable leggings for Disney dog and cat lovers here! And with the exception of service animals, dogs aren’t allowed in any of the Disney theme parks, water parks, or Disney Springs. While pet dogs are allowed to use some Disney transportation services such as air-conditioned motorcoaches, only service animals are permitted to use Disney World’s monorails, and watercraft like the friendship boats. Friendship Boat Learn more about Disney World’s transportation systems here! We inquired about Disney’s Skyliner and were told there isn’t an official policy on whether or not dogs are permitted onboard. If allowed, the Cast Member we spoke with thought only service animals may be able to ride. Disney Skyliner S0…what should you do with your Pluto while you’re out-and-about? See how to spoil your fur babies with Monsters, Inc. accessories here! Keep Your Dog at Your Resort You know your dog’s temperament better than anyone so if you know your dog will be happiest (and quiet) back at the room while you’re out exploring the parks, this solution could work for you. Fort Wilderness But…if your dog can’t handle long stretches of being left alone (especially in an unfamiliar environment) you might receive a call from your hotel asking you to return to your room and calm your doggo down if he’s barking a lot. You’ll have 30 minutes to return to your room and quiet your dog down. Disney also recommends not leaving your dog unattended for more than seven hours at a time. Mickey dog harness Housekeeping will not come by while you’re away (you must schedule them to come when you’re back at your room and can manage your dog while they work). Don’t worry — there’s another option if you need your dog watched while you’re having fun! Doggy Day Camp If you don’t want to leave your dog back at the resort all day, you can choose to board him or her for the day at Best Friends Pet Care, a full-service animal care facility at Disney World. They also allow cats and other small animals to stay there, too! ©Best Friends Pet Hotel Their services include everything from playtime for a couple of hours while you’re out at the parks to full overnight retreats with LOTS of Disney-style pampering! Doggie Daycare starts at $30 per day and gets slightly cheaper the longer you book. Boarding starts at $47 per night and goes up to $109. For more information about Best Friends Pet Care including, prices, call (877) 4 WDW-PETS or (877) 493-9738 or visit their website here to take a virtual tour! Should I Bring My Dog to Disney World? Even though bringing Fido to Disney World sounds like a really neat idea, it will present some new challenges. We think it would certainly make for a memorable trip if your dog is well-behaved — and the worst part of going to Disney World for you is leaving your furry friend behind each day! Disney Dogs Loungefly backpack You will, however, have to factor in how you’ll get them there (which might change whether you’ll be flying or driving to Disney World) as well as how much it will cost you to bring them along since you might incur additional costs than if you’d boarded them back home. Check out the deets onTHIS adorable new Disney Dog Loungefly Backpack (there’s one for Cat peeps too!) Either way, it IS possible to have your Disney World vacation AND have your dog, too! We hope we’ve given you and your best pal something to chew on for your next trip to Florida! Have you ever traveled to Disney World with your dog before? We all know about Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. But did you know that there are some Disney characters whose popularity RIVALS that of the Mouse himself? Mickey Mouse We’re going to chat about eight popular characters you might have never even heard of! Duffy the Disney Bear We’re going to start off with an easy one. MOST Disney fans should know about this cute little bear, or at least they have probably seen him in passing! Duffy Bear Duffy started out as simply “The Disney Bear” when he made his debut in 2002 at Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs, then called Downtown Disney. Folks quickly fell in love with Mickey’s teddy bear (given to him by Minnie according to the story), and he was ‘adopted’ by the Oriental Land Company, who own the Tokyo Disney Resort. They gave him the name Duffy, as well as an entire backstory. Duffy! Duffy was HEAVILY marketed and his popularity soared with Japanese Disney fans. He made his first appearance as a walk-around character in 2005 at the Tokyo Disney Resort. Since then, he has made appearances in Disney World, where he had a longterm residency in Epcot. You can find a small amount of Duffy merchandise in the domestic parks, but he is EVERYWHERE in the Asian parks. Duffy and ShellieMay Dim Sum from Crystal Lotus at Hong Kong Disneyland He even appears as some popular food dishes at the international parks! While Duffy still makes an appearance from time to time in Disney World, typically in merchandise form, he has a STRONG claim at the Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland, and even over at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa in Hawaii! See where we recently spotted Duffy in Disney World here! All of Duffy’s Friends! Lots of Disney fans may know about Duffy, but they may not know about all of his friends! As Duffy’s popularity skyrocketed, an arsenal of friends joined ranks and were also immensely popular abroad. ©Disney Three friends joined Duffy in 2011 at the Tokyo Disney Resort: ShellieMay, StellaLou, and Gelatoni! Like Duffy, these three pals totally infiltrated the theme parks and appear everywhere. From merchandise to snacks, there’s no escaping these cuties! StellaLou Dessert in Shanghai Disneyland Some of Duffy’s pals have started to make appearances in the states in recent years. We’ve spotted Gelatoni in Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa. Gelatoni Speaking of Aulani, Duffy has a friend who debuted in Hawaii in 2018: Olu the Turtle! Olu There’s plenty of Olu to go around when you visit Aulani! He even recently made his way to Shanghai Disneyland. Look at ALL the Olu! Also in 2018, CookieAnn the Dog debuted in Hong Kong Disneyland! CookieAnn Plush CookieAnn has recently joined Olu as a resident ‘mascot’ of sorts at Aulani! Check out some of the ADORABLE CookieAnn merchandise you can find at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa here! Chandu the Tiger Our next popular character has no formal relation to Duffy, but in some communities, he’s just as popular! We’re heading to Tokyo DisneySea to climb aboard Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage! Chandu gets into mischief on Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage! On this attraction, we meet the ADORABLE Tiger named Chandu. Chandu was added six years after the attraction first opened due to its dark theming that would often frighten children. So, in 2007 Chandu was introduced, as well as an original song by Beauty and the Beast composer Alan Menken to lighten up the attraction! Chandu But we have all come to know and love Chandu for an entirely different reason: Chandu Tails! Chandu Tails Chandu Tails are tasty treats you can only find at Tokyo DisneySea. These change up, but they’re always steamed buns filled with yummy goodies! (This one is chicken and corn!) Chandu Tail Between the cuteness and the snacks, Chandu holds a special place in our hearts (and, apparently, our wallets)! Chandu! You can ONLY find Chandu at Tokyo DisneySea, which is why some folks may have never heard of him! Read our full review of the tasty Chandu Tails here! Albert the Monkey For our final popular Disney character you may have never heard of, we’re traveling to Hong Kong Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland One of the most popular attractions in the park is Mystic Manor, their version of Haunted Mansion! Mystic Manor The story behind Mystic Manor is COMPLETELY different than that of the Haunted Mansion here in the states! Mystic Manor has a much more lighthearted, fantasy-based theme with no “grim grinning ghosts” to be found! And one of the main characters of Mystic Manor is Albert the Monkey! Albert in Mystic Manor Like Chandu, Albert can only be found in his home park, which in this case is Hong Kong Disneyland. HOWEVER, those with a keen eye may be able to spot this adorable sidekick at the Disneyland Resort! Next time you visit Bengal Barbecue, head into the seating area, and see if you can find a print of a Jungle Cruise boat with a familiar monkey on board! If you weren’t aware, Albert is a member of the fictitious Society of Explorers and Adventurers (or S.E.A., as it’s more commonly called). One of the secret meeting spots for S.E.A. members can be found at Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd Skipper Canteen in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. In the S.E.A. meeting room, you’ll find Albert’s fez on the wall. So while you may not have heard of all of these super cuties, they have gained an immense amount of popularity at Disney Parks around the world! Want to visit ALL of the Disney Parks so you can meet these characters? Here’s what it will cost you! How many of these characters did you already know about? Let us know in the comments! Walt Disney World is gearing up to reopen in just a few weeks! Entering Walt Disney World Resort But just because guests can start staying at select resort hotels and enjoy the theme parks doesn’t mean EVERY Disney travel experience is going to reopen soon. Earlier today, we learned the Cruise Lines International Association, of which Disney Cruise Line is a part of, will have its ocean-going cruise line members voluntarily extend their suspensions of cruise operations from U.S. ports until September 15th, 2020. ©Disney And it seems as though Disney Cruise Line IS, in fact, following those guidelines despite offering deals for mid-summer earlier this week. Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Dream In a new announcement, Disney Cruise Line revealed the suspension of departures for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy through September 15th, 2020. Disney Fantasy This announcement follows the cancellation of the Disney Wonder sailings through September 14th and Disney Magic sailings through October 2nd. Disney Wonder ©Disney Guests booked on affected sailings who have paid their reservation in full will be offered the choice of a 125% cruise credit to be used for a future sailing before March 31, 2022, or or a full refund. Guests who have not paid their reservations in full will automatically receive a refund. ©Disney It’s yet to be announced WHEN Disney Cruise Line will officially sail again, but as soon as anything is announced, you know we’ll keep you informed.
