As Disney resorts reopen around the world, there are a few that we still have to wait on. Aulani Resort Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawai’i is one of the resorts that’s still in a full closure. New reservations were previously being accepted for midsummer, but now reservations have been pushed back. Initially, Aulani was accepting new reservations and modifications for dates after July 1st, but now new bookings have been pushed another month to August 1st. This may be due to the fact that Hawai’i is still requiring a mandatory 2-week quarantine for out-of-state arrivals through July 31st, per Hawai’i Tourism Authority. Hawaiian Sunset from Aulani This change also affects the current cancellation policy. Aulani will now waive all Disney-imposed change and cancellation fees up to the date of check-in for arrivals through July 31st. Stay tuned to DFB for all of the latest updates on Aulani and more! The global health crisis has had a major economic effect across the board — especially on the tourism industry. Walt Disney World Resort entrance With such a major drop in revenue for the travel industry, the national government is reviewing ways to get the sector back on its feet. They’ve already employed a multi-billion-dollar stimulus for airlines, and now they may even incentivize travel with a tax break. Lobbyists are pushing to provide tax breaks for American travelers. According to the Orlando Sentinel, lobbyists are currently pushing for a plan that would provide up to $4,000 in tax breaks for those who begin traveling and spending money at hotels, theme parks, and more. Magic Kingdom One example that has been proposed is the Explore America tax credit. This would be an income tax credit worth up to 50% of a household’s expenditures on travel like airfare, hotel rooms, tickets, and meals. The cap would be at $4,000 per household and would apply through the end of next year. Interestingly, the tax break is modeled after a credit that was implemented for some homebuyers during the 2008 housing crisis. Walt Disney World A lobbyist for the Walt Disney Company, Tori Emerson Barnes, noted that the government will need to continue spending to revitalize the tourism industry. “Right now, our businesses need relief,” she said, “But ultimately, we’ll need recovery.” Unions have gotten involved as well noting that any aid to big travel should come with stipulations that improve conditions for frontline workers. A representative from the union that organizes several Disney World employees, UNITE HERE, noted, “I think we really need to move from incentives to requirements to get these companies to do the right thing.” Epcot Remember, none of this is set in stone, but it is something that lobbyists are pushing. Click here to see how the global health crisis has affected Florida’s economy. Why would we get a tax break for taking a vacation? Now we know what you’re thinking: Why would the government PAY US to go on VACATION!? Let’s break it down. As we mentioned, tourism is one of the industries that has been hit the hardest by the global health crisis and has already been a major beneficiary of economic relief. Beach Club Resort in Disney World People are especially wary about travel right now. A tax break like this could incentivize people to travel despite their unease about the economic downturn and health concerns. John Bortz, CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust explained, “I think there’s a recognition that travel overall is going to need to be stimulated, and that will take dollars.” We’ll see what comes of this plan in the coming days and months and keep you posted as we learn more. Back in March, Adventures by Disney cancelled all departures through July 31st and guests were eligible to receive a 100% cancellation credit towards a future adventure. ©Disney Earlier this month, the suspension of all Adventures by Disney departures was extended to the end of August, and just recently, it has been pushed back again. According to Adventures by Disney’s website, all of its previously scheduled departures through September 15th, 2020 are suspended. Adventures by Disney will reach out to all guests (most likely through e-mail) and impacted guests may receive the option of a full refund or a transfer of the cost of their trip. As we’ve previously seen before select Disney Springs dining locations and Disney World resort restaurants reopened, sweeping menu cuts are now occurring at several theme park restaurants. Tony’s Town Square Restaurant Just recently, Disney has shared with us which Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom restaurants will be reopening on July 11th as well as which dining locations will be available when Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot resume on July 15th. Disney is offering limited menus at many of the resorts and Disney Springs restaurants for the time being. And, now it looks like the parks are following suit. Here are a few of the biggest menu changes that you can anticipate to see when the parks reopen. Magic Kingdom Tony’s Town Square Restaurant First up, Town’s Town Square Restaurant — one of the very first restaurants we’ll see as soon as we step foot inside the Magic Kingdom for the first time since mid-March! Can you believe Disney World is reopening next month? Welcome Home!! Disney has been preparing throughout the closures for its re-opening. Even though Disney World has already seen changes like face mask requirements and distancing measures, a few of the updates might actually become a part of everyday park life. Despite the fact that many guests miss the way Disney was before the closures, these modifications to Disney World’s guidelines could be helpful alternatives going forward in the parks! QR Menus As Disney World has started to re-open, the parks have introduced multiple contactless measures. One of these is the QR code menus throughout Disney World that help reduce contact points for guests and Cast Members. While health and safety standards may change slightly in restaurants after things start to return to “normal,” the QR menus could stick around so there are fewer high-touch points at locations across the parks. Wine Bar George QR Code for Digital Menus Although we’ve also seen paper menus, restaurants might lean towards the QR option more often for reasons BEYOND health and safety. Disney has also been increasing its conservation efforts across the board for a while in the parks already, by moving toward eliminating plastic straws and mini toiletry bottles. So if guests get used to the digital menus, Disney could reduce the amount of paper menus in the restaurants long-term in an effort to go greener! Raglan Road Paper Menu However, since some guests don’t have smartphones, Disney would also have to make a few handheld menus available as needed. Additionally, moving toward digital menus could also allow restaurants to update menus quickly and easily online without having to print excessive amounts of paper when a menu item changes. Think more market-inspired seasonal or even daily specialties, farm to table fare, faster updates when items sell out, and more customization altogether for Disney World menus! That would be pretty cool. Click here to see these QR Codes in Action in Disney Springs! Hand-Sanitizer and Hand-Washing Stations Since Disney World is upholding strict health and safety regulations when the parks re-open, hand-sanitizing and hand-washing stations have started to be placed around the parks. While they were available right before Disney World closed, Disney Springs has also placed them throughout the shopping and dining district. Hand Sanitizer Station The readily available stations are actually a great way to encourage guests as well as Cast Members to keep up with sanitary efforts. If they are placed around the parks, people wouldn’t have to go find a restroom just to wash their hands (Liberty Square is already grateful since it has no restrooms anyways!). We’ve been to Disney World with kids MANY times and can tell you there’s practically always a reason to wash their hands! Hand-washing Station We’ve also seen Universal Orlando’s inclusion of hand-sanitizing stations before boarding attractions, which would be beneficial in eliminating some of the germs passed through contact on rides. Sanitizer Disney Springs has also provided hand-sanitizer and access to restrooms in restaurants so guests can wash their hands before and after they eat, in an effort to promote cleanliness. All of these efforts to reduce the spread of germs could be beneficial beyond the current crisis. How many people have visited Disney World only to get sick as soon as you get home (we’re raising all our hands)? This could help reduce that overall. We really hope that Disney World does this in their restrooms when the parks re-open! Increased Sanitation Efforts As the parks re-open, Disney will most likely be following similar procedures in restaurants, using distancing stickers and signs, and implementing more protocol we’ve already seen in Disney Springs. While Disney has already increased its cleaning efforts, the parks are going to be a completely different ball game. Protect the Magic Signs However, Universal Orlando has already shown a few measures that Disney should probably take notes on. While there is already frequent cleaning of high-touch spaces, Universal has also created sanitation measures specific to attractions. Men in Black Alien Attack On top of guests using hand-sanitizer before many attractions, Team Members also wipe down the seats, and even hand out 3D goggles themselves so multiple guests aren’t handling them. No-Touch Goggles Universal has also implemented the use of a barcode or scannable park ticket instead of its regular finger scanner. Since Disney World also uses finger scanners along with MagicBands, it would make sense for the parks to switch things up when they re-open to reduce high-contact touchpoints. (Note that Disney World has announced that it will be discontinuing complimentary MagicBands in 2021, so perhaps that is a step toward using contactless ticket media.) Islands of Adventure Main Entrance Although we don’t have much information (yet), the new Park Pass reservation system may incorporate new virtual ticketing elements to use in order to cut down on high-touch areas as well. These BIG changes in the parks aren’t nearly as bad as we thought they would be! Temperature Checks Although many guests wondered what the temperature checks would be like when they entered theme parks again, we have to say that our experience so far has been pretty good! While Disney Springs already uses contactless thermometers to make sure guests and employees entering the shopping and dining district are below the 100.4 temperature limit, mandatory temperature checks will be instated in Disney World parks as well. Temperature Screening Though we already have an idea of how temperature checks may work in the Disney Parks, Universal has also made it even simpler to get a temperature check when staying on-site. Temp Checks at Universal After a guest receives a temperature check at one of the resorts, they receive a wristband to show that they have already been screened for the day. Instead of re-checking guests over and over again, Team Members will let these guests skip another round of screenings. Temp Check Wristband While it hasn’t been stated if Disney World will be doing the same thing, the wristbands after temperature checks would reduce the time spent by hotel guests going through park temperature checks, and may reduce overall wait times to enter the parks. This is what we’ve learned from experiencing a VERY different Disney World! Changes in the Mobile Order System Mobile Order has been a game-changer for us when it comes to planning our days in the parks. Instead of waiting in long lines for your food, you can schedule a time to pick it up so you aren’t wasting that precious time that could be spent riding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Mobile Order Sign While the parks have been closed, though, there has been an increase in Mobile Order locations in Disney Springs that we expect to see mirrored in the parks. My Disney Experience has also updated payment information with more accepted contactless methods of payment, as well as implemented windows of time for Mobile Order pick-ups. Previously, these time windows were only seen in Disneyland. Mobile Order Payment Options If Disney restricts the window of time to pick up your orders, it potentially spaces out crowds so you’d be able to create more distance between guests. Select a Participating Restaurant Also, if more locations accept Mobile Order, it would be easier than ever to grab and go so you can get on with your day. Here are the ways buffets may be changing in Disney World when the parks re-open! Although these big changes might seem different and possibly scary in such a well-known environment, the new updates are necessary to keep guests and Cast Members safe. Some of these changes could possibly be for the better in the long run. If we approach them with an open mind, we might all be surprised how quickly we adapt to the changes in Disney World and beyond. Here’s why you need to skip sleeping in and go to Disney World in the morning! What changes are you looking forward to seeing in the parks? Let us know in the comments below! We’ve seen some wild things over the years in Disney World (remember when Cinderella Castle was turned into a giant pink birthday cake for the 25th anniversary?). Disney’s Hollywood Studios Although there have been so many sights that we will never forget in the parks, there’s Disney entertainment that has been lost to time. With all the new lands and the giant Epcot Transformation, many guests don’t realize that Disney has hosted some delightfully strange shows and attractions over the years. And, we’re taking you back through time to look at the greatest things you could do in Disney World that people have forgotten about! Build Your Own Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Space Mountain are great and all, but wouldn’t it be WAY cooler to build your own Disney coaster?? Well, you actually could in Epcot! Innoventions didn’t just house the Character Spot, but it was also a dwelling place for the Sum of All Thrills. ©Disney The roller coaster simulator attraction was the first ride at Innoventions and ran from 2009 to 2016. Guests could use a computer program to make the drops, loops, curves, and turns of a coaster track. Once you completed building your roller coaster, you could choose to make it a bobsled, jet aircraft, or coaster experience for “riders.” ©Disney After you’ve named your creation (please share what you named your coasters in the comments!) and were given the green light from “coaster safety professionals,” you were able to climb into a robotic arm that simulated your roller coaster! That means you were able to feel all the twists, turns, and upside-down parks that you built into your track. ©Disney If you were lucky enough to experience the Sum of All Thrills during its seven-year run, we absolutely think you deserve to use those bragging rights to say you created your own roller coaster in Epcot. What’s going to happen to Disney World’s 50th anniversary with all the closures? This is what we think! Pose with a Ninja Turtle Disney’s Hollywood Studios wasn’t always the name of this theme park (and it definitely didn’t feature so much Disney IP). Previously, Hollywood Studios was called Disney MGM Studios, where the attractions and entertainment were all based on the most popular aspects of the film industry. Disney Studio Backlot Tour Since the parks paid homage to the best and the brightest in Hollywood at the time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were brought in as one of the BIGGEST cartoons in the 1980s and 1990s. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made an entrance all crammed on top of a car (still a bit confused on how they all fit), they would perform a show with April O’Neill on vocals. The amped-up 80s style music gave the Turtles a chance to show off their ninjitsu moves and they WORKED that stage. ©All Ears Guests could meet all four of them afterward, so it was a pretty cool photo-op. Although we’re sure that there must have been some little kids who probably weren’t big fans of how massive they must have been in person! We bet you didn’t know these things about Hollywood Studios! Ace Ventura: Hollywood Detective Oh, you thought the unique shows in Hollywood Studios stopped there? Nope, there’s more, folks. Disney MGM Studios also had an Ace Ventura: Pet Detective show and meet-and-greet. While this might seem just as random as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ace Ventura was a big pop culture icon at the time because of Jim Carrey’s omnipresence in film. ©Warner Bros After a very dramatic climb from the roof down to the stage, Ace would be interviewed about his detective work, time in Africa, and more as he gave hilarious answers. But, the best part was the actor who played him. While following the footsteps of Jim Carrey seems like a very difficult task, the actors did a phenomenal job channeling Carrey’s energy into the character (and even made you believe he was Carrey at a few points of the show!). ©Disney However, the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective show didn’t last very long — it only ran a few months over the span of 1995 to 1996. All we can hope for is that for Hollywood Studios’ next big anniversary, we could maybe see some of these old characters make their way back into the parks to celebrate! Take a look at Hollywood Studios over the years with us here! Dinosaurs Roamed Animal Kingdom Wait, we’re talking about Disney World, right? Even though Universal Orlando has just re-opened and you can meet Blue the Velociraptor again in Jurassic Park, Disney used to have its own raptor named Val! ©Attractions Magazine A character named Professor Parker Woodson would lead a brightly colored raptor around Animal Kingdom back in 2014! While Professor Woodson was a real person, an actor would operate Val in an all-black bodysuit. ©Attractions Magazine If you looked at it from the best angles, the puppet looked pretty awesome. But, if you looked at it straight on or too far to the side, you could see the person underneath A LOT more. The dinosaur quickly turned from scary and impressive to pretty cheesy once you found the “soft spot” of Val’s costume. ©Attractions Magazine Although Professor Parker Woodson and Val left soon after they debuted, this wasn’t the first time we’ve seen a dinosaur in the Disney Parks. Back in 2003, Lucky the Dinosaur appeared in Disney California Adventure before moving to Animal Kingdom and Hong Kong Disneyland. ©Disney Lucky was the first free-roaming audio-animatronic in the parks who was extremely life-like with the ability to walk, move his head and tail, blink, and have “conversations” with guests. Lucky was SO cool that he could even sign autographs! Dr. Woodson also accompanied Lucky in Animal Kingdom and Hong Kong Disneyland. However, Lucky would frequently break down since he was only a prototype. Disney moved him back to have a permanent home at Walt Disney Imagineering in California, where he’ll still make appearances from time to time. Since dinosaurs are “extinct” in the parks, we’ll just have to settle for riding the Dinosaur ride instead! These are 12 things you probably didn’t know about Animal Kingdom! Ride the Back of a Giant Ant You might think that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land are big deals, but the Honey I Shrunk the Kids franchise was where it’s at, friends. Whenever you visited Hollywood Studios, you could go on an adventure in the interactive Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Play Set (before jetting over to Epcot to see the Honey I Shrunk the Audience film). The Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Play Set that was built to seem like Wayne Szalinski had shrunk everyone down to a minuscule size (like smaller than a fly kind of tiny!). You’d be able to explore giant grass, climb through leaves, and even slide down an oversized film canister. (Kids, “film” is what we used in cameras before they became digital. …And “cameras” were…oh never mind.) Film Canister There were also multiple bugs placed around the area to show exactly how tiny you were supposed to be. You could even climb on the backs of giant ants for an iconic photo-op (thank goodness it wasn’t a fire ant or that could have been a disaster!). Giant Ant While kids absolutely LOVED the playset, it ran for 26 years from 1990 until 2016 and was dismantled to make space for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Although we love Batuu, we miss being able to explore the wild world like we never have before at a teensy tiny size. You might not be a Disney fan if you haven’t seen these 10 movies! Disney World showcases some wacky entertainment every once in a while, and that’s one of the reasons we love the parks. The totally weird things end up becoming some of the most memorable experiences in the parks that amuse us (and now you, too) for years to come. Since next year is Disney World’s 50th anniversary, we are so excited to see what strange things the big 5-0 brings us too! We’re totally okay with these outdated things in Disney World! Disney has certainly dumped a LOT of information on us in the past few days. Walt Disney World And with information comes questions! We’re looking for clarification on everything from the new Disney Park Pass reservation system to what is and isn’t still an option during our upcoming resort stays. If you’re like us, this can mean you’ve been trying (possibly unsuccessfully!) to contact Disney! While it can be ESPECIALLY hard to get a hold of Disney during big news-times like this, we’re compiling a list of ALL the ways YOU can try to get those questions answered. Phone Numbers In general, calling Disney is a good way to get an answer to your questions. However, it is not foolproof. For one, Disney’s call center can be overwhelmed with high demand which can make for multi-hour holds. When the Park Pass system opened, we weren’t even been able to access a hold, just a busy dial tone — yikes. Even when you DO get through, the Cast Member you’re talking to may not have all the answers you need. Ink & Paint Phone Cases Still, Guest Services Cast Members will do their best to help you, so a phone call is a good bet for getting the answers you need. Remember to be patient with the wait and with the Cast Members who are trying to help you. For which number to call, check out the following list of Disney World phone numbers: Reservations and Tickets Disney World Vacation Assistance (407) 939-5277 Disney Resort Hotel Reservations (407) 939-1936 Website Support (407) 939-4357 New Tickets (407) 939-7679 Existing Tickets (407) 566-4985 Tours, Recreation (407) 939-1929 Group Reservations (10 Rooms or More) (407) 939-1942 My Disney Experience, MagicBands and FastPass+ (407) 939-4357 Annual Passholders (407) 560-7277 Disney PhotoPass (407) 560-4300 Other Information For a Specific Resort’s Phone (407) 939-3476 Non-Reservation Questions (407) 939-2273 My Past Walt Disney World Visit (407) 939-6104 Disability Services (407) 560-2547 Chat Feature If you have a quick question or want another option besides the phone lines, you can use the chat feature on the Disney World website. Typically, you can access this feature through a link on the “Contact Us” page. However, the chat is ALSO not foolproof. With high demand, the chat link HAS been deactivated on many occasions. Disney World’s Website However, even with the “Contact Us” link deactivated, we were able to access the chat feature through the Walt Disney World home page. Keep in mind, also, that chat can come with some pretty long waits if demand is high. Still, it’s a great option if you can’t wait it out on the phone for so long. Email Another option is to email Disney. Of course, you may not get the most prompt response in doing this, but if you’re not on a schedule for getting an answer back, this is definitely an option! All you do is head on over to the Email page on the Disney website. There’s a simple form to fill out with your information, your question, and your contact info. Once you have sent your message, a Cast Member will get back to you, but again, this is not a time-sensitive method. Social Media There is actually one other way that you can talk to Disney World Guest Services. Disney has one guest request-based social media with the @WDWGuestService Twitter account. Now, this account is currently marked as closed with the park closures and hasn’t had any new tweets since March, however it is typically an awesome way to get a response. Guest Relations Direct messaging or tweeting at @WDWGuestServices will usually get you a response pretty quickly. Bonus: This is the best way to give a Cast Compliment when you have a really good experience with a Cast Member in Disney World. With all of these methods, it can still be hard to reach Disney if there is really high demand. Remember to be patient and prepared to wait, just in case. Disney will try to answer your questions as soon as they can. Click here to learn more about the Disney Park Pass! Have any questions about contacting Disney? The Disney Park Pass reservation system — Disney’s new way to book a reservation for theme parks while Disney maintains limited capacity in the parks — went live on June 22nd for guests who currently have hotel reservations and park tickets. 2020 Annual Passholder Magnet While guests with upcoming resort stays and valid ticket media were able to book their park passes yesterday, Annual Passholders without a hotel reservation will be able to take advantage of their booking window starting June 26th. Since this is a turbulent time with IT glitches and changing information, a lot of our DFB readers have had questions about their Annual Passes. And we are here to give you all the details you need to know before using your Annual Pass to book your next visit to the parks with the Disney Park Pass system! Will you be able to make another reservation after the first day using your Annual Pass? Or, will you have to wait until after the initial three days are entirely used up? Since the Disney Park Passes are an entirely new ballgame, the Annual Passes are going to have to be used in a different way. Now, Annual Passholders will only be able to book 3 park reservations at a time without a resort stay. Annual Passholder Information However, Passholders don’t have to wait until the end of the three initial days to book another reservation. The three day limit kind of works like the FastPass system! Guests can book an additional reservation for another day after using up one of their three allotted reservations. Annual Passholder Information So, as an Annual Passholder, you can hold three park pass reservations at a time, but as soon as you use one up, you can book another. Let’s say you booked July 11th, 12th, and 13th. Once you use your park pass on the 11th, you can then log into My Disney Experience and book a park pass for another date. After you use your park pass for the 12th, you can book another date. And so on, and so forth! Read a FULL tutorial on how to use the Disney Park Pass system here! Are Annual Passholders and regular ticket holders able to make reservations together? Disney has stated that all guests must have valid park tickets when they are booking reservations through the Disney Park Pass system. However, different admission types have different block-out dates and limitations, so if the people in your travel party don’t have the same type of admission, you may need to make separate park pass reservations. Passholder Magnet For example, you may need to make two different park reservations if you have both Annual Passholders and regular ticket holders in your party. Disney’s Beach Club Resort This means that, even if your group is synced in My Disney Experience, members of your party may need to book their reservations separately. Here are all the details on booking reservations for your entire party! Can you book a Disney Park Pass reservation past your original expiration date? Since Disney is offering Annual Passholders the ability to have their passes extended or refunded, the original expiration dates on many guests’ passes are receiving extra days that correlate to the number of days the parks were closed. Although the passes may receive a new expiration date, Disney has stated that you can only book reservations through the Disney Park Pass system if you have an active ticket, or a voucher for a new annual pass or renewed annual pass. Annual Passholder Information Even if an Annual Passholder chooses to update their passes with extended dates, the system requires that the reservations are made with a purchased and unexpired Annual Pass. If your pass expires before your booking window and your expiration dates aren’t updated on your pass, booking will not be available through Disney Park Pass. Annual Passholder Information Want to go to Passholder Previews? This is when you can get a first look at a newly re-opened Disney World! Will you be able to use the Disney Park Pass even if you haven’t activated your Annual Pass? We’re glad to say that, YES, you’ll be able to use your unactivated Annual Pass to make reservations! Animal Kingdom Entrance If you have a hotel reservation, you’ll can use your annual pass voucher to make reservations now. And if you are just visiting with your pass and do not have a hotel reservation, you’ll be able to make reservations for the parks on June 26th. Read everything you need to know about unactivated Annual Passes and the Disney Park Pass here! Does this mean it’s the end of spontaneous trips to Disney? We know that things can be really confusing since Disney World vacations will be changing as we know them. Disney has put its guidelines in place currently as a way to limit the amount of guests in the parks as a health and safety precaution. Since there is a reduced amount of people able to enter Disney World, that means there will be less availability to visit. Walt Disney World’s Epcot While this will require everyone to plan their trips in a new way, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end to your spontaneous trips. Annual Passholders can still take a quick trip to Disney World if they’re able to snag reservations on the Disney Park Pass system. Rise of the Resistance However, it is important to note that Annual Passholders who live out of state will probably need to change their idea of a “spontaneous trip” when they come to the parks. Since there is a limit of three reservations at a time, guests won’t be able to book an extended vacation unless they are staying in a Disney World resort. (Annual Passholders who have a hotel reservation are able to book park passes for their “length of stay.”) Cars Building at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Still, Annual Passholders can have a great time with all the new entertainment (Character Cavalcades galore) that will be featured in Disney World when it re-opens! Check out the full list of CONFIRMED Disney Resort re-opening dates! Since this is an ever-changing situation, we will continue to update you as things evolve! Although this is the most up-to-date information, Disney has been adding more details and news to their re-opening plans that we will continue to add. Universal Orlando just reopened its doors to guests weeks ago. Universal Orlando Resort Even though Universal’s hotels are open, CityWalk locations are reopening, and the theme parks are resuming operations, it appears the company has taken steps to let go a number of employees even after operations have resumed. According to Spectrum News 13, Universal Orlando just announced they’re laying off an unknown number of Team Members across their Parks and Resorts divisions. Universal Orlando According to Universal spokesman Tom Schroder, “We have made the difficult decision to reduce our Parks & Resorts workforce across multiple locations and business units…this decision was not made lightly, but was necessary to prepare us for the future.” Universal Universal announced back in April they would be furloughing most full-time theme park employees and it seems after many had returned to work, the company still was left with laying off employees. Universal will support laid-off employees with severance pay, reemployment assistance, and subsidized health benefits. We’ll keep you posted with any new information or developments as more is revealed. What do you think of Universal letting go of so many employees? Let us know in the comments. Select Disney World restaurants have now reopened, and we’re checking them out! So far, we’ve swung by Captain Cook’s to try the gorgeous Welcome Back Cupcake and gotten a quick Dole Whip fix at Pineapple Lanai! Kona Cafe Now, we’re headed to Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to scope it out — let’s take a look! Check-In Kona Cafe is utilizing the new Mobile Dine Check-In feature that’s just been added to the My Disney Experience app! Instead of going up to the host stand, you can virtually let the restaurant know you’ve arrived for your reservation! Host Stand Once you’ve completed the contactless check-in, you’ll receive a separate notification when your table is ready — it’s that easy! See how Disney’s Mobile Dine Check-In works step-by-step here! Seating Kona Cafe tables and chairs have been spread apart. Kona Cafe Some of the booths have been closed off to allow for optimal social distancing. Signs on the tables designated which tables were closed. Closed Table We also noticed the barstools around the sushi bar were present, but no longer a seating option for guests. Sushi Bar That covers the turf, so let’s check out the FOOD! Menu While some Disney World restaurants have a disposable paper menu available upon request, Kona Cafe only has a digital QR menu at this time. Kona Cafe Along with many other restaurants that have recently reopened, Kona Cafe’s menu has been reduced a great deal, but there are still plenty of offerings including sushi, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and most importantly for some, DRINKS! See what didn’t make the cut on Kona Cafe’s new limited menu here! Food and Beverages It wouldn’t be a trip to Disney’s Polynesian Resort without something tropical to sip on! Kona Cafe doesn’t staff a bartender during lunch hours, but they DO have one ready to go for dinner service. Luckily, a manager was able to sub in and mix up a delicious Lapu Lapu for $18! Lapu Lapu Now that we’ve been instantly transported to paradise (with a little help from the rum and fruit juices served in a blessed PINEAPPLE!) it’s time to order some FOOD! We’re going with the Crispy Pork and Vegetable Potstickers, Pork Belly Noodle Bowl, and Steak Salad! Kona Cafe Meal We should mention our meal came with complimentary bread, too! Kona Cafe used to serve an amazing macadamia nut butter with their rolls, but as of today, it’s still just the regular old-fashioned butter they switched over to not to a while back. Nothing fancy, but still delicious! Bread Service The Crispy Pork and Vegetable Potstickers were served with a soy vinaigrette dressing and cost $10. The had a really nice sear to them while the filling was nice and tender. Crispy Pork and Vegetable Potstickers The Pork Belly Noodle Bowl for $24 was GREAT! The bowl includes rice noodles mixed with egg, mushrooms, bok choy, and other vegetables served in delicious broth! The star of the show is the pork belly though, and the hot sesame oil really adds a nice extra layer of depth to the dish. Pork Belly Bowl The last entrée we enjoyed was the Steak Salad for $23. It was served with an incredible sunny-side-up egg for those of you who enjoy a little runny yolk in yo’ life (which we happen to be big fans of!). When the yolk mixed with the Kona house vinaigrette dressing, it really made the flavors POP! Steak Salad We would have liked to end our meal with a Hawaiian Pressed Coffee or Banana Trifle, but they were out of a few menu items when we stopped by today. We’re guessing once things get up and runnin’ again, they’ll know how much product to stock and might make a few more menu adjustments when they do! Overall, they have spaced out the restaurant and limited the menu like the rest of the restaurants we’ve eaten at lately, but of course, Kona Cafe has that signature Polynesian flair! We’ll be back soon with more Disney World eats (that’s right — we’ve miraculously saved some room) so stay tuned! Here are the Disney World dining changes guests will experience this summer! Are you surprised by any of the changes at Kona Cafe? Let us know in the comments! Related posts: Review and Food Photos: Dinner at Polynesian Village Resort’s Kona Cafe in Disney World FIRST LOOK! Well, the much-awaited Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system went live yesterday — and it had some issues. We’re Working On It As Disney World resort guests with existing reservations became the first to access the Disney Park Pass system, there were apparently some serious glitches to deal with. Reports flooded in of lengthy wait times, inaccurate reservation limits, and falsely unavailable park days. Let’s take a look at some of the glitches that guests encountered — and how to handle them for the next big Disney Park Pass day on June 26th (for Passholders without Resort reservations) or June 28th (for guests with just tickets). Wait Times First off, let’s talk about wait times to get into the site. According to the Tampa Bay Times, many people reported super lengthy wait times. We here at DFB were even stuck with some long waits! Our readers experienced this as well. We had commenters explain that they had spent HOURS waiting to get to the Disney Park Pass page by midday yesterday. According to theme parks reporter Scott Gustin, Disney is aware of this issue and is working on a fix. You may also be able to repeatedly select the desired date until the available parks show up as they should. If they STILL won’t show, clear cookies or use an incognito browser and try again. Click here to see what parks and days ARE booked up! Disney has reportedly received contact about these glitches and is currently working through them. Some folks have seen success later in the day after running into glitches so don’t be afraid to give your theme park reservations another go. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments and we’ll do our best to help out with your situation! Disney Park Pass Screenshot Hopefully, the Disney Park Pass system will be running smoothly soon. We guess we’ll get an idea of how stable the system is with Friday’s Annual Passholder opening!
