The Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Collection of Disney merchandise is so popular that people are standing in long lines for new collections at the parks! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Ears A new collection drops every month (although there was a slight hiatus this summer), and we’ve seen many of these collections sell out FAST at the parks. We’re talking like we blink and they’re GONE (although Disney does occasionally release more stock). However, Disney has released all of these collections online, too. And that’s the case with the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Collection. But recently, Disney has required guests to sign up for a MerchPass in order to get early access to the collection. But just because you sign up, does not mean that you’re guaranteed to take home these highly-anticipated items. Big Thunder Mountain Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction So what happens if you didn’t get a merch pass? Well, the good news is that Disney will soon release the Big Thunder Mountain Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction Series online to the general public! The collection will land on shopDisney on September 23rd at 7AM PST. Sir Mickey’s Line for Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction — Big Thunder Mountain Collection The collection includes a lot of adorable goodies, like this sweet Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Pin Set. There’s a pin dedicated to those adorable Minnie ears, Big Thunder Mountain, and Minnie in her cute BTM outfit! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Pin Set There’s also this Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction — Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Mug. We spy a lot of hidden Mickeys on it, and of course, the Big Thunder Mountain logo inside Minnie’s bow. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad MagicBand We just want to hug this Minnie Mouse Big Thunder Mountain Plush. Is it not the cutest thing ever? She’s wearing a woven print dress, simulated suede shoes, a satin bandana, and her signature bow! Minnie Mouse The Main Attraction Plush Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Limited Release ©Disney There’s even something for those who love collecting MagicBands! The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad MagicBand features Minnie! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad MagicBand You can’t have a merch collection without some kind of bag, and so, there is OBVIOUSLY a Big Thunder Mountain Loungefly Mini Backpack! Look at that cute BTM logo bow! And the Big Thunder Mountain landscape is on the front pocket. Minnie Mouse The Main Attraction Mini Backpack by Loungefly Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Limited Release ©Disney Last, but not least, WE ARE CRAZY ABOUT EARS! The ears themselves have the famous Big Thunder Mountain landscape on them IN SEQUINS. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Don’t forget to set your alarm early on September 23rd, because it’s highly likely that these items will sell out fast! 3. Pandora in Animal Kingdom is a surprising wealth of yummy meals and snacks. And Satu’li Canteen, the land’s quick-service dining location, is a total must-try dining spot! Satu’li Canteen From innovative combination bowls to our beloved Cheeseburger Steamed Pods, there’s something for almost everyone. Ahh, Cheeseburger Pods. We love this snack so much that we learned to make a copycat recipe at home! And now, we’re back in Animal Kingdom to snag a refreshed review! You’ll find Cheeseburger Steamed Pods on the kids’ menu for $7.99 AND (as of recently) back on the regular menu for $11.49. Kids get one pod, chips, an orange, and a drink, and grown-ups get two pods with vegetable slaw and chips. Cheeseburger Pods On this particular trip, we opted for the kids’ portion since we weren’t too hungry. Pro tip! Ordering from the kids’ menu at any quick-service spot in Disney World can make for the perfect snack or light meal option. Cheeseburger Pods As usual, the Cheeseburger Pods themselves were absolutely delicious. They’re stuffed with ground beef, ketchup, mustard, pickle, and cheddar cheese — everything you need to get those yummy cheeseburger flavors! The dough is soft and the bite stays together surprisingly well while you’re chowing down. We wish we could eat these every day; thank goodness we came up with that at-home recipe! Interior Kids’ Cheeseburger Pod And of course, whether you’re opting for the kids’ size or the adult size, you’ll need something to wash your delicious meal down with. Satu’li Canteen has some awesome options, but this time we opted for the Hawkes’ Grog Ale. You can snag this sip for $9.25 for 16oz or $10.50 for 22oz. Hawkes’ Grog Ale No, your eyes don’t deceive you. That really is GREEN beer! It’s like it’s St. Patrick’s Day EVERY day in Pandora. The Hawkes’ Grog Ale is exclusive to Pandora and we are big fans of this brew. It’s on the hoppy side with notes of apricot and peach — perfect to wash down your Cheeseburger Pods! Hawkes’ Grog Ale Overall, we tend to be happy on our trips to Satu’li Canteen and this latest one was no different. As a bonus, this dining spot has plenty of outdoor seating — a major plus from a health and safety standpoint in a reopened Disney World. Satu’li Canteen We hope this little review helps you out when it comes to picking a meal in Pandora! As always, keep an eye on DFB for more news and reviews! 4. We LOVE to find new ears in Disney World, and where better to look than World of Disney? Midnight Magic Ears! Honestly, Disney has been loading us up on new ears lately. With everything from Emerald Ears to upgraded Leopard Minnie Ears, it’s pretty hard to pick a favorite! Still, we might have a contender for the prettiest pair of ears EVER with the new ones we found today. Just LOOK at the new Midnight Magic Minnie Ears that we spotted in Disney Springs today! These immediately caught our eye (along with everyone else’s) and we rushed over to take a closer look. But see what we mean? They’re GORGEOUS. Midnight Magic Ears! The bow is a shiny plum fabric covered in little stars. It really matched the headband itself which is black on the outside with a plum fabric on the inside. Midnight Magic Ears! The ears are by far the best part though. They’re covered in super shimmery, SUPER colorful sparkles. We can’t even pick out all the colors we see in there! Seriously, we’re dazzled. Midnight Magic Ears! You can find these ears at World of Disney in Disney Springs RIGHT NOW for $29.99. You might want to hurry! Lots of folks were headed for these cuties while we were there. Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye out for theme elsewhere too, so stay tuned! Click here to see MORE new ears! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 5. Since Disney World reopened, we’ve noticed concentrated efforts on expanding the Mobile Dining features in the Disney World app. Sanaa Dining Room We’ve seen the new Walk-up Waitlist feature and more restaurants have received mobile capability. But perhaps the MOST exciting addition has come today. You can now Mobile Order from select table service restaurants in Disney World! We were checking out the options on Mobile Order today when we noticed an option was available to select Sanaa To Go. Whaaaat!? After all, Sanaa is a TABLE SERVICE restaurant in Animal Kingdom Lodge. Obvi, we HAD to know what that was about. We haven’t seen anything quite like this before. MDE Screenshot When we selected Sanaa To Go, a screen popped up introducing the new Table Service To Go feature. The new option works much the same as Mobile Order at a quick-service restaurant. The biggest difference is that these meals are made to order so the wait time could be a little longer. It’s probably a good idea to order before you’re ready to eat! MDE Screenshot We noted that most, if not all, of the Sanaa menu was available. Like with quick-service, you select an order window and arrive when the app lets you know that your order is ready. So don’t stray too far during your arrival window! MDE Screenshot Our biggest take-home (get it?) from this is that we can now get Sanaa Bread Service THROUGH MOBILE ORDER. We are thanking Disney World for this development in particular. MDE Screenshot Sanaa is the only table service spot that offers Mobile Order for now, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for other restaurants to pop up too! We’ll be giving this new feature a try later today so stay tuned to DFB to see how it works for us! Click here to learn more about new dining features in Disney World! 12. It’s been over six months since Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure closed due to the global health crisis. Disneyland Gate But fortunately, those who on the West Coast who need to get a lil’ Disney fix (uh, us!) can head to Downtown Disney, the resort’s shopping and dining district. And that’s exactly what we did this week to check out all the new construction, merch, and store updates! Come along with us as we see everything going on! Downtown Disney Construction Update Walkway California governor Gavin Newsom said in a recent news conference that there will be an update on the state’s theme parks “soon,” and it seems as though Disneyland is prepping for guests to come back! Roadway at Disneyland Resort We spotted benches and safety signage along the roadway that is typically used to transport guests from the Mickey & Friends and Pixar Pals Parking Structures to Downtown Disney, which may indicate that this roadway will instead be used as a pedestrian walkway when Disneyland reopens, though nothing has been confirmed about this by Disney. Roadway at Disneyland Resort We also spotted some signage saying that a reservation was required for park entry, presumably in a system similar to Walt Disney World’s Park Pass system. “Reservations Required for Entry to Theme Parks” It sure does seem like Disneyland is getting ready to reopen! However, no timeline for a reopening has been given, and reservations through October 3rd have been canceled. Read more about the potential walkway at Disneyland here! Disney California Adventure Peeking through the gates at Disney California Adventure, we spotted some social distancing markers outside Los Feliz Five & Dime. Enter Here The sign says “Enter Here,” indicating that there will be a one-way-in, one-way-out crowd flow, like we’ve seen at stores all over Walt Disney World. Disneyland Park In previous strolls around Disneyland, we noticed that there was scaffolding surrounding the Emporium on Main Street. This week, we saw that the scaffolding is starting to come down! Emporium scaffolding It’s now just around the bottom half of the building! Promenade The ticket booths in the promenade are coming to life again! We spotted that some of the screens were turned on, sitting on a static screen that says “Disneyland.” Disneyland ticketing booth Other screens are still off, including the screens that normally feature the pricing information. Disneyland ticketing booth Seeing this made us feel TOTALLY warm and fuzzy inside, just thinking about getting tickets to go to the theme parks! Downtown Disney Merchandise Updates World of Disney We LOVE a classy piece of Disneyland merchandise, and we think this purple marble phone case we spotted at World of Disney fits the bill! Like, can we get this same design on our kitchen counter?! This case is $49.99 Disneyland purple marble phone case SPEAKING of phone cases, we spotted this totally wacky Monsters Inc scream canister phone case, which cost $29.99! It reminds us of riding Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue over and over and over again. Scream canister phone case And you know we’ve TOTALLY fallen in love with Disney’s shoulder plushes. Why wouldn’t you want a lil’ pal with you while you ride It’s a Small World?! And we spotted THREE new-to-Disneyland shoulder plushes at World of Disney! First, we found the Pascal Shoulder Plush, you know Rapunzel’s buddy from Tangled?! Pascal Shoulder Plush Planning on dressing up as Elsa for Halloween? If so, you absolutely have to have this Bruni shoulder plush, the fire spirit from Frozen 2! Bruni Shoulder Plush WE MEAN, LOOK AT DAT FACE! Bruni Shoulder Plush And if you want to be Linguine from Ratatouille for Halloween or just want your own rat cooking companion, this Remy shoulder plush is for you! Chef Remy Shoulder Plush Each of these plushes were $19.99! Read more about these adorable finds at Disneyland here! Ever have trouble figuring out which water bottle is yours?! Well, this new Finding Nemo seagulls tumbler just screams that it’s MINE! MINE! MINE! This quirky sipper is $19.99. This tumbler is MINE! MINE! MINE! Feeling un poco loco? It just might be because you sensed a new Coco Loungefly backpack at World of Disney! Featuring Miguel’s sugar skull, this stunning bad is perfect for the Day of the Dead season! Coco Loungefly And we LOVE this $80 backpack’s quote on the back, “One cannot deny who one is meant to be.” It’s one of our favorite sentiments from this Pixar film! So sweet! It’s been a BIG year for Hercules fans and new merch! And the love for this ’90s classic keeps on coming with the new Hades Disneyland spirit jersey. Hades Disneyland spirit jersey We’ve previously spotted this devilishly wicked jersey in Walt Disney World, but now Disneyland has its own Hades spirit jersey Disneyland Not devilish enough? Pair this spirit jersey with these Villains socks set of five featuring the Evil Queen, Hades, Maleficent, Dr. Facilier and Ursula. These cost $24.99! EVIL SOCKS! 16. The 2020 Taste of Epcot International Food and Wine Festival began this year in July with the reopening of the parks, and is scheduled to run through the fall! But this year, we noticed there were fewer booths than what we’ve seen during past festivals. 2020 Taste of EPCOT But, to help take the sting off the lower number of booths, we learned that some of our favorite booths would soon return! And one of those booths, The Alps Booth, already returned in August. Now, one of our OTHER favorites, Flavors From Fire, is set to return. AND IT SHOULD BE OPEN TOMORROW! This is not a drill, y’all! It’s back, baby! We spoke to a chef at the booth today and he let us know they should be open tomorrow and plan to stay open for the remainder of the festival. Here’s how the booth looked while wandering around World Showcase today: Flavors From Fire Booth at EPCOT We also noticed that social distancing markers and a hand sanitizing station were already in place. Flavors From Fire Booth at EPCOT This booth originally opened in 2017 and is home to some of our favorite Food and Wine Festival eats! The Smoked Corned Beef with Warm Crispy Potatoes, Pickled Onions, and Blonde Ale Beer Fondue is consistently one of our top picks at the WHOLE festival. We can’t resist all those flavors together, and we even tell people who don’t like corned beef to get it anyway because BEER CHEESE and thick crunchy chips! This is one of those foods we not-so-secretly wish was available in a straight up BUCKET. It’s…that…good. 2017 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Flavors from Fire Smoked Corn Beef We’re also big fans of the Charred Chimichurri Skirt Steak on a Smoked Corn Cake with Pickled Vegetable Slaw and Cilantro Aïoli. Every component of this dish works so well together, from the steak’s char and marinade to the smoky sweet corn cake, crispy slaw, and creamy cilantro aïoli! Charred Chimichurri Skirt Steak No menu is posted yet, but you know we’ll share it as soon as we can! This year’s booth is sponsored by The NFL on ESPN. Flavors From Fire Booth This is such a great booth, and we can’t wait to order up some of our fave dishes there! BRING ON THE FIYAH!!! 17. When will Disneyland reopen? It’s a BIG question we’ve yet to get the answer to. Disneyland Main Entrance Recently, we’ve seen some signs that could show Disneyland is getting prepared for its reopening, whenever that comes. But, what will Disneyland look like when it does reopen? How many guests can we expect to see walking through those gates? Some new data analysis is starting to give us a better idea. Earlier today, we shared some news about Disneyland Resort Hotel availability. If you’re looking to make a new reservation at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, reservations are only available beginning mid-October, and reservations through October 3rd are being canceled. Disneyland Hotel In terms of the Disneyland Resort theme parks themselves, we still don’t have an official reopening date. The theme parks are still waiting on guidance from the State of California to be able to reopen. One trade association representing Disneyland and other parks has called on California’s Governor Newsom to reopen theme parks ©Disney What will park capacity look like when Disneyland does reopen? According to the Orange County Register, a new data analysis suggests that “Disneyland could theoretically let in 25,000 to 30,000 visitors per day and still allow for six feet of social distancing per person” when the park is able to reopen with appropriate health and safety protocols. According to estimates by the Thinkwell Group, Disneyland could accommodate 50% of its “theoretical pre-COVID-19 capacity.” Mickey Float in Magic Happens Parade The Thinkwell Group recently published a new white paper that calculates the physical-distancing needs in terms of personal space, retail facilities, food and beverage facilities, and more of a theoretical future theme park. The Orange County Register, citing to Themed Entertainment Association/AECOM, notes that Disneyland drew “an estimated 51,140 visitors per day in 2019.” According to Thinkwell, on a normal weekend day during the summer, a large theme park in the United States, like Disneyland, “attracts approximately 60,000 visitors.” ©Disney Pre-COVID-19, Thinkwell estimates that theme park density ranged from 500 to 650 people per acre. But, the OCR notes, in a “COVID-19 era, those numbers will need to be cut in half…to accommodate appropriate social distancing.” Thinkwell has estimated that “Post-COVID-19 protocols mandating six feet of social distancing will require theme parks to allow 140 square feet per person and 200 square feet for groups of three,” according to the Orange County Register. Peter Pan’s Flight in Disneyland Using the estimates from Thinkwell, the Orange County Register notes that “Disneyland accommodated approximately 545 people per acre in the pre-COVID-19 era and would need to cut those numbers in half to allow for appropriate social distancing.” The OCR indicates that this results in a range of about 25,000 to 30,000 visitors per day. Storybook Canal Boats According to the OCR, Bob Chapek — CEO of the Disney Company — noted in May that “Disney reopened Shanghai Disneyland ‘far below’ the 30% attendance cap to avoid backups in the park and to allow visitors and employees to adjust to the new COVID-19 health and safety protocols.” It’s very possible that Disneyland in California will similarly open at a lower capacity than what is ultimately recommended or required by the California government. But, as the OCR notes, Disney rarely discusses exact capacity figures for its theme parks, so we may not get to see an exact number. New Mural We’re on the lookout for more news about a potential reopening date for Disneyland, so be sure to come back for all the latest updates. 21. It’s Halloween time in Disney World! And that means you can find all kinds of Halloween snacks and drinks around the parks and hotels. The Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Now we already got shared details about the three new spooky drinks that recently turned up at The Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. And we recently tried out two of those drinks! Those drinks were the Harvest Punch and Witch’s Brew. But that still left one drink we hadn’t tried yet! The Wave Halloween Drinks Menu That drink is the Wild Apple Mule! Now we love apple-flavored things and we’ve tried a lot out recently (like the colorful fall drinks from Gasparilla Island Lounge!). The Wild Apple Mule is made with Crown Royal Apple, sparkling apple cider, and ginger beer. It’s topped with a candied dehydrated apple. So yeah, we tried it! Wild Apple Mule from The Wave We thought it mostly tasted like a regular Moscow Mule, and there wasn’t much of an apple flavor. We kind of expected more from a drink with “apple” in its title. Wild Apple Mule from The Wave But the ginger beer was the most prominent flavor. We also really liked the candied dehydrated apple slice on top! Wild Apple Mule from The Wave The Wild Apple Mule for $15 is probably a good drink for those who like Moscow Mules, and we think those people will enjoy it. For those who prefer more apple flavor, though, we might recommend something like the Frozen Apple Cider from Disney’s Hollywood Studios instead. We’re always trying new drinks that we find around the parks, so we’ll be sure to let you know what new ones we’ve discovered and tasted! 22. The Disney World water parks closed alongside most of the resort back in March. Until today, they remain closed with no news of reopening. Typhoon Lagoon Now, Disney has announced that Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will not reopen until at least March 7th — almost a full year of closure. Due to this fact, some Disney World Annual Passholders will be receiving partial refunds. Today, Disney sent out an email to Passholders that notes, “…due to the current closure of Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, we will be automatically issuing Platinum Plus Annual Passholders with water park access a partial refund.” Email Screenshot Per the email, the individual refund amount is calculated based on the price difference between what you paid for your Platinum Plus Pass and the price of a Platinum Annual Pass prorated by the number of days left on your pass prior to the reopening of the water parks. The refunds will be processed to the original form of payment (or via check if the original form of payment is unavailable) in late October through early November. All refunds will be paid in a lump sum, even for those on the monthly payment program. Blizzard Beach Your pass still includes all of its benefits including admission to Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course. If the water parks or ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex reopens before your pass expires, your admission will still be valid. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex For any questions or concerns, you can always call V.I.PASSHOLDER Support at (407) 939-7277. As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates.
