  7. Just one more day til Christmas, and it’s more holiday deliciousness today as we continue our stroll around World Showcase in Epcot! These are snacks that are just perfect for enjoying as we take in all the sights and sounds of Holidays Around the World. What’s your favorite performance? I can never make up my mind! Epcot Christmas tree ornaments On a recent visit, I decided to make it my mission to try as many holiday treats and snacks as possible. But what I found in the Canada Pavilion just may be my favorite sweet of the week. And to think I almost didn’t get it! Pecan Maple Bark in Epcot’s Canada PavilionEpcot’s Holidays Around the World offers performances and special foods in each World Showcase pavilion, celebrating holidays that take place this time of year. And you can even track your progress with a passport. Holidays Around the World at Epcot Passport And when you set your goal to eat your way around this enchanted holiday world, there’s no better place to start than the Canada Pavilion, where we found Pecan Maple Bark. Epcot’s Holidays Around the World — Pecan Maple Bark in the Canada Pavilion I’ll be honest — I didn’t buy this one last year. I figured, what’s the big deal about yet ANOTHER holiday-themed bark? Here’s a picture of the Pecan Maple Bark as you buy it, with the ingredients printed right on the bag. Pecan Maple Bark But this was Ah-MAZING!!!! I think the most interesting thing here is the name “bark”. Because I’m no candy expert, but this seems more like English toffee to me — a hard candy that’s rich with butter, coated in chocolate. It’s easy to break through, but it definitely has some crunch to it. But the taste isn’t just buttery rich; there’s a healthy dose of Maple Flavor here, too. And it’s so good. Pecan Maple Bark — Out of the Wrapper You can see that crunchy middle part here as well as the Chocolate Coating. Toasted, Chopped Pecans add some additional texture and flavor. But it’s the sprinkle of Sea Salt on the top that makes this truly out of this world. Pecan Maple Bark — Up Close That sweet, salty combo gets me every time, and the addition of maple flavor makes this one something really special. Honestly, of all the things I tried this year at Holidays Around the World, this is the one I would most recommend. Want to See Even More Disney Holiday Fun? 10. Our final mystery image of 2014 may be our most difficult. It’s a colorful frog resting on a lily pad that’s only visible this time of year – in a Christmas tree. 20. It’s time for another stop of the season on our Holidays Around the World Tour of Epcot! Learn About:Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie Epcot RestaurantsDisney World Restaurants This is such an exciting time of the year to visit Walt Disney World. With the beautiful decorations and incredible gingerbread displays, there’s so much to take in! But be sure to carve out some time in your busy holiday schedule for a day at Epcot during your trip. We recently enjoyed a few days in the midst of the magic, and today we’ve got a review of a classic holiday treat. Bûche de Noël from Epcot’s Les Halles Boulangerie PatisserieIt’s hard to resist Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion on any given day. But there’s no way I’m passing up this delicious spot when holiday treats are on the menu! Bûche de Noël at Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie — Part of Holidays Around the World The bakery pays homage to French Christmas tradition with the inclusion of a Bûche de Noël for a limited time. And this year’s version is completely different than last year’s — a great reason to try it in 2014! Bûche de Noël — In the Case If you’re familiar with the traditional dessert, then you know it’s usually a simple roulade, made with sponge cake spread with buttercream and frosted with more buttercream. The whole thing is decorated to look like a bûche de Noël, or Yule log. But of course, Les Halles had to take it to the next level. To begin, the Bûche de Noël you’ll find here is an individual portion — and I don’t mean a slab of cake. Individual Bûche de Noël Each little log is crafted and garnished in perfect, petite fashion. You won’t have to fight with anyone over who gets the Meringue Mushroom! The rich, Dark Chocolate Glaze makes for a stunning finish. And I like the combination of traditional trim (the mushroom) and the more modern flair of Chocolate Pearls and the simple White Chocolate Decoration. Look at the Cute Little Meringue Mushroom! Cut into it and you see that, rather than a combination of the rolled cake and frosting normally associated with this dessert, the Bûche de Noël is made up mostly of a light, airy Chocolate Mousse. Bûche de Noël — Cross Section And it’s built on a base of Cake and Crispy Chocolate. There’s a strong flavor of Orange; mixed with chocolate, it isn’t necessarily my favorite combo. Bûche de Noël — Close Up Still, it’s a great dessert, and a fun take on a traditional confection. I’m definitely glad that I gave it a try. This holiday season, VoluntEARS from our sites around the world brought holiday joy to young patients and orphans. Along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, VoluntEARS from Hong Kong Disneyland visited Siu Lam Hospital and sang and danced with the patients. They also celebrated the holidays with 300 cancer patients and their families at Maggie’s Cancer Caring Center in Tuen Mun Hospital. They enjoyed holiday treats and played musical games to brighten spirits. Tokyo Disney Resort’s VoluntEARS hosted a fundraiser and bake sale to raise money for a holiday gift for the Aiji-no-ie Orphanage. Mickey Mouse and his friends joined sixty VoluntEARS from Disneyland Resort and brought holiday cheer to nearly 400 children and their families at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). They enjoyed holiday cookie decorating, a 38-foot long CHOC-olate Yule Log, Olaf-shaped balloons, reindeer games and a giant gingerbread house. Before they even welcome their first guest, the Shanghai Disney Resort’s VoluntEARS are supporting their community by hosting weekly holiday activities at local children’s hospitals. They visited Shanghai Children’s Medical Center and decorated activity rooms and made Santa Claus hats with children. Aulani VoluntEARS joined in the festivities and brought the holiday spirit to children in local hospitals in Hawaii. 25. It sounds like the basis of a good fairytale, young women in despair when a knight rides in and saves the day. That’s exactly what happens in the video submitted by the University of Rutgers dance team for the Cheer On Your Disney Side competition sponsored by ESPN, in collaboration with Disney Destination and Varsity Spirit. Set to “it’s a small world” inspired music, Scarlet Knight, with the help of some of our beloved Disney Princesses, restores school spirit to a tired and dejected dance team. A story and production helping, the Rutgers dance team emerge as a finalist in the competition along with Auburn University, Louisiana State University and Santa Monica College. University cheer and dance squads from across the country were invited to choreograph routines to one of four Disney Parks inspired songs. The winning squad will earn a $100,000 grant for its college spirit program and a team trip to Walt Disney World Resort. Now it is your turn to vote! Guests are asked to go to Espn.com/CheerMagic and vote for their favorite video from the final four. The school with the most votes wins. Fans who vote are entered into an ESPN sweepstakes to win a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Rules may be found at Espn.com/CheerMagic. Online voting ends on January 6 and the winning squad will be announced on ESPN before the College Football National Championship Game on January 12 in Dallas. So what’s the ‘spirit’ behind the Rutgers video? Check out this behind the scenes look inside their world. This year, Disney Parks is encouraging people to show their Disney Side – their fun-loving adventurous side that laughs more, says “yes” more and just plain lives life to the fullest. The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort has been the home of Varsity Spirit’s College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, the premier athletic competition for these teams, for over 20 years. Varsity Spirit has been a driving force behind cheerleading’s dynamic transformation into the high-energy, athletic activity it is today. Focused on safety, entertainment and school leadership, Varsity Spirit conducts educational camps, administrates competitions and provides apparel for more than 350,000 cheerleaders and dancers.
