  2. Okay, hear us out, but have you ever thought about visiting Disney World and staying off-property? Have you ever thought about staying off-property? Yeah, we know, a lot of us just want to live in the Disney bubble on our vacation, but at the same time, there are some REALLY nice hotels in the area that might be a better value than a Disney World hotel. There are some great hotels in the Disney Springs area, plus there’s the incredibly luxurious Four Season Orlando. Well, a NEW billion-dollar resort will be opening near Disney World soon, and when you see it, you’ll want to book a stay there. The new resort is called Evermore Orlando Resort (yes, we LOVE the name — so fantasy-like) and you’ll be able to book a stay there as early as January 1st, 2024. Yep, this hotel is opening SOON. The idea is that the hotel will focus on “combining the comforts of home with the amenities of a premium resort.” Sounds nice, right? Well, we also now have a first look at the new hotel, too. ©Evermore Orlando Resort Even better is that Evermore is close to Disney World — it’s only about a 15-minute drive from Disney World’s Ticket and Transportation Center. You’ll be able to book a variety of rooms, including flats, villas, and even houses with up to 11 bedrooms. Now THAT’s a vacation home, right? According to the recent announcement, “The resort will open with 2,013 bedrooms throughout 69 houses ranging in size from five to eleven bedrooms; 206 four-bedroom flats; and 41 two- and four-bedroom villas.” ©Evermore Orlando Resort Hilton’s luxury Conrad Orlando will also be part of the resort, featuring 433 rooms, including suites and family suites. There’s also a spa and outdoor water garden. You like golf? Well, you’ll find “visually captivating Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses.” There’s also a 20-acre tropical beach complex around an 8-acre bay called Evermore Bay. This place is niiiiiicccce, y’all. ©Evermore Orlando Resort If you’re ready to book with Evermore, reservations are open now for bookings starting on January 1st, 2024. Reservations are also open for Conrad Orlando, which will open on January 9th, 2024. ©Evermore Orlando Resort Stay tuned to DFB for more. 3. We only have half a year until the opening of the NEW massive expansion in Tokyo Disney Sea! ©Disney Disney announced back in October that Fantasy Springs would be opening on June 6th, 2024. So today, December 6th, 2023 marks the 6 month mark until it officially opens! And now Disney has shared a little peek (or perhaps peak) at the progress of one of its lands. Fantasy Springs will be a massive new theme port at Tokyo Disney Springs. It’s the biggest expansion of the park since its opening in 2001! It will bring three new lands to explore– Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel’s Forest, and Peter Pan’s Neverland. ©Disney And now Tokyo Disney, along with Jennifer Lee, Disney’s chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios and writer and director of Frozen, have brought us an update on the construction in Frozen Kingdom! We got a view of the mountaintop where Anna’s ice castle is and other elements in the new Frozen-themed land. In the video, Lee describes what our experience will be like in this new land, stating, “It’s like you’re stepping right into the movie, into breathtaking Arendelle and immersing yourself and your favorite Frozen moments.” If it’s going to be anything like World of Frozen in Hong Kong, we’re sure it will be amazing! ©Disney We’re excited to see and experience this new port at Tokyo Disney Sea. Until then, check out World of Frozen with us below, so you can find out what to expect in Tokyo! Keep following DFB for more exciting Disney news! 4. We’ve had LOTS of exciting things happen in EPCOT lately, and now EPCOT’s new nighttime show is finally HERE! Luminous: The Symphony of US In between more of the construction walls coming down, seeing Walt’s statue gazing out into the park, and an all-new light experience that you just have to see to believe, it’s hard to believe that EPCOT dropped yet another big change on us. The NEW fireworks show has officially arrived, but its debut performance has critics talking. There has been lots of hype and mystery surrounding EPCOT’s newest nighttime spectacular and the day has finally come to see it in person. The new fireworks show is called Luminous: The Symphony of Us and pulls off an impressive display of spouting water fountains, fireworks in the sky, and beautiful music to tell the story of, well, us! The new show When we sat down with a few of the show’s creators to learn more about what we could expect before seeing the show on its debut run, they told us that the music is really the driving force of this experience. They wanted the music to carry the storyline of people as they’re born, grow, fall in love, experience loss, and showcase the beautiful harmony of what can be achieved when people come together. Luminous: The Symphony of US and Sheléa Melody McDonald You may be thinking, “Ok, enough with the tearjerker stuff,” but we found all of this to be true. The music woven together in this performance was incredible. In fact, it seems like the showrunners achieved what they set out to do, and the musical score was the one resounding piece of the show that everyone we spoke to and overheard just couldn’t stop talking about. The show is bookended by two new songs (one at the opening and the other at the closing) while also creating space to showcase familiar tunes from Disney films while telling the story of a human’s journey. WOW! However, that seemed to be the only thing everyone could agree on. The fireworks were dazzling (but it’s also hard not to be impressed with massive fireworks displays), and while there were no visuals on the sides of the barges, we felt like they played more of a part in this story than we originally expected. Water barges The new barges have been revamped, possibly in response to critical remarks of how huge and distracting the previous versions of them were when they were used and displayed in the HarmonioUS nighttime show. Now, it appears their only function is to spout water when the show calls for it. While the fountains are magnificent and the barges are used throughout the show to continue to move things along, some people were disappointed to find they were such an instrumental piece once again. So many effects! We have been told repeatedly that as long as you had a view of the World Showcase Lagoon, there really wasn’t a bad place to watch the show; however, from our experience, if you really wanted to get the full display of the power packed into Luminous, you’d really want to make sure you’ve got a good vantage point of everything that’s offered — including the water barges. Toy Story section of Luminous: The Symphony of US Another critique that we kept hearing after the show had wound down is that people missed the visuals on the huge Harmonious barges (ironic, huh?) The previous barges had displays of digital imagery and projections that went along with the show’s storyline to soften the transition and add another element to the display; however, that wasn’t the case for EPCOT’s new show. We’re interested to see if this is just because the use of the barges throughout the show is similar and since HarmonioUS did run for 18 months maybe we’re just relating this new show a bit too much to what was offered in the past. Beautiful display of fireworks Overall though, the show is truly a wonder and it well exceeds expectations from what we thought we would be getting out of it. If you were a fan of the aesthetic of Illuminations, loved the music from HarmonioUS, and enjoyed a few extra flashes of colorful lights like the ones that are featured throughout Happily Ever After, this is a show you won’t want to sleep on! 5. The past few days have been a wild time for EPCOT! Luminous The park’s lengthy transformation is coming to a close, and some of the construction walls came down to reveal EPCOT’s all-new World Celebration Gardens as well as the Walt the Dreamer statue. Oh, and did we mention that Luminous, The Symphony of Us debuted on December 5th as well? With all these fun things happening, we did start to feel a bit greedy and anticipate the opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza — which was set to debut in late 2023 — or so we thought. The new area will serve as a central location for EPCOT’s rotating festivals throughout the year, providing a communal space to celebrate rather than having to trek around the whole park. While CommuniCore was previously set to open in late 2023, Disney has now confirmed that it will open in 2024. ©Disney Disney said in a press release regarding the official opening of the new EPCOT additions, “The beautiful greenspaces throughout the World Celebration Gardens will feature ample seating and shade, as well as a central planter based on the five-rings of the iconic EPCOT logo. Guests will be invited to connect with one another and the nature around them in this lush new area. Each of the garden spaces will have their own identities and change with the EPCOT festivals throughout the year. CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will make their debut in 2024.“ CommuniCore Plaza ©Disney While this is disappointing news, we’re holding on to the fact that 2024 is just around the corner. Although Disney hasn’t confirmed WHEN in 2024 the festival area will open, our fingers are crossed that there’s a chance CommuniCore will debut in time for the 2024 International Festival of the Arts, which is set to start on January 12th. CommuniCore Hall What do you think? Are we too hopeful?! We’ll continue to keep you all up to date with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you’re always in the loop. 6. Even though we would like to experience EVERYTHING Disney World has to offer every trip, it’s a nearly impossible feat. Cinderella Castle From its sheer size to limited seasonal offerings, Disney World challenges its guests with too much of a good time. For most, it takes MULTIPLE long trips to Disney World to experience everything the resort has to offer. Unfortunately, the challenge becomes even greater when you factor in closures. Even when you plan that perfect Disney World trip, you are always susceptible to an ambush by closures and refurbishments. That’s where we can help! While closure dates aren’t always made available well in advance, here are a few ride and attraction closures you should be prepared for in 2024. Splash Mountain Tiana’s Bayou Adventure This one is kind of a given, taking into account that Splash Mountain is permanently closed. With that said, the mountain has undergone retheming changes and will reopen next year as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The new attraction is slated to open in late 2024 at Magic Kingdom, but so far that’s all we know regarding its opening date. If you have a trip planned before the fall and winter of 2024, you should still expect this brand-new ride to be closed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid Not only should you expect Voyage of the Little Mermaid in Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be closed in 2024, but you may want to prepare yourself for it never reopening. While nothing official has been announced, this The Little Mermaid stage show has been closed since 2020 with minimal hints of reopening. Making Voyage of the Little Mermaid’s future even murkier is the absence of an official attraction page on Disney World’s website. We’re betting we’ll have just as much difficulty experiencing this attraction in 2024 as we did in years prior. Country Bears Jamboree Country Bears in Frontierland It was announced at this year’s Destination D23 that Country Bears Jamboree in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be getting a makeover in 2024. The new act will include the bears singing their usual songs in new country, rockabilly, and bluegrass styles with some Nashville inspiration. The new show also promises a rockabilly style of “Bare Necessities”. While we know the change is set for 2024, we don’t know when just yet. We’ll be sure to keep you updated when the closing and reopening dates are released! Water Park Rides Summit Plummet The Disney World water parks have been operating as a one-on, one-off package for a while now and that is expected to continue into 2024. Right now, Blizzard Beach is open but will likely close next year to give way to Typhoon Lagoon. It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that when one water park is closed, those rides and attractions will be completely inaccessible during your trip. When we have concrete closing and opening dates for each water park in 2024, we will be sure to relay those dates. Outdoor Rides During Inclement Weather Rainy Day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Bad weather doesn’t always ruin a Disney World Trip. After all, storms in Central Florida are fairly commonplace. However, sometimes it can get so bad that Disney has to take action and close outdoor attractions. If you find yourself at Disney World during hurricane season or in the middle of a lightning storm, you should expect ride complications during your trip. This is not only a 2024 tip, but a general rule of thumb for years to come. Other Possible Closures Dinosaur This year’s Destination D23 announced A TON of potential upcoming changes, and while we don’t have official dates for any of the following attractions, you should know it is possible that the refurbishments and closures of these attractions could begin in 2024. One of these rides includes DINOSAUR over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. DinoLand U.S.A. is already being phased out and Disney hinted that an all-new Indiana Jones attraction could arrive in Animal Kingdom, possibly replacing DINOSAUR. Is this goodbye to It’s Tough To Be A Bug? This Animal Kingdom attraction change is certain to happen, it’s just a matter of when. It’s Tough to be a Bug! is getting replaced with a NEW Zootopia show at some point, and that could be as early as 2024. The new show is expected to be filled with humor and action while taking the audience through the different biomes from the movie. ©Disney Test Track at EPCOT is also scheduled to get a retheming. Like the other possible closures we’ve mentioned, there is no set timeline to Test Track’s retheme so it’s very possible it remains open all year in 2024 without any refurbishment or closures. With that said, the chance that Test Track — along with DINOSAUR and It’s Tough to be a Bug! — closes temporarily in 2024 is always a possibility. We will be sure to bring you all the latest Disney World attraction closing and opening dates as they are made available and you can CLICK HERE to view Disney World’s comprehensive refurbishment and closure schedule. 9. Heads up everyone: McDonald’s is creating a spin-off restaurant chain! We love the McDonald’s near Disney World Oh yes! We often report to you on the latest Disney Happy Meal toy news, as well as other important news that comes out of the popular restaurant chain. If you’ve been hearing whispers about the company’s spin-off restaurant chain, we now have our first look at the menu! This new spin-off restaurant is called CosMc’s, and thanks to a gentleman named Iman Jalali who was driving by the location in Illinois and Business Insider, we have photos of what to expect from this new restaurant’s menu. ©Business Insider The menu is filled with adventurous drinks, including plenty of coffee drinks and other caffeinated beverages, along with lots of different breakfast items. The photos of the menu include items such as “teas, lemonades, slushies, frappes, coffees, and a section called ‘signature galactic boosts.'” A few of the drinks include a Sour Cherry Energy Burst, Iced and Sweet Tea, Lemonade, a Churro Frappe, Berry Hibiscus Sour-Ade, and a Popping Pear Slush. Some of the sandwiches that we can see include a Spicy Queso Sandwich, an Egg McMuffin, and a Sausage McMuffin with Egg. There’s also a section for McFlurries and baked goods, and there are sides like Pretzel Bites and Hashbrowns. ©Business Insider Some of the items are very similar to the ones on the McDonald’s menu, while others look brand-new. Jalali noticed there was a drone flying around the location, and when he asked a person nearby if the restaurant was open, he was told that they were just filming something. ©Business Insider Jalali told Business Insider, “It’s surprising. You get a Dutch Bros kind of feeling here. They look to be combining the all-day breakfast demand with the Starbucks caffeine demand and mixing drinks that are more kid-friendly than Starbucks.” We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this new endeavor as we hear more, so stay tuned to DFB! 11. A NEW fireworks show is now in EPCOT! EPCOT Disney announced that the new nighttime spectacular Luminous, which was created to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary, would debut on December 5th, 2023, and we’ve got a FIRST LOOK at the show! Luminous — The Symphony of Us is the new nighttime spectacular in EPCOT. Luminous The show features fireworks, fountains, lasers, lighting effects, and lots of Disney music. Let’s take a look! So many effects! The show starts with voices around World Showcase welcoming you to the event. The first song that plays is “You’ll Be In My Heart” from Tarzan. One of our favorite things about the new show is that you can get a good view from pretty much any of the World Showcase pavilions. With Harmonious, it was a little bit tricky to get the best view, as the animations projected on the water were only visible from certain angles. That wasn’t an issue with this new show, although you’ll still want to find a spot where you can get a clear view of the center of World Showcase Lagoon for the parts of the show that just feature lasers and water features. People missed the visuals We LOVED the music during the show and thought it was a cool mix of the aesthetic of Illuminations with the musicality of Harmonious and the fun laser light effects of Happily Ever After. Fireworks Lots of the people around us enjoyed the show as well, although we heard several people comment that they missed the visual storytelling element of Harmonious. Although many people said they didn’t love having the barges in the middle of the Lagoon all the time, the barges provided a space for more projections and animation, whereas this show does not have that. Fireworks Currently, Luminous begins each night at 9:30PM. Starting on January 1st, the showtime will change to 9PM nightly. Luminous Luminous isn’t the only new thing in EPCOT — the World Celebration Gardens also opened on December 5th… World Celebration Gardens …and the “Walt the Dreamer” statue was unveiled the same day. 12. It’s TIME! One of our favorite things about EPCOT is finally BACK! EPCOT Does anyone else miss those fun lights that were embedded in the ground back when Future World was a thing in EPCOT? Well, we have good news for you! The glowing sidewalks are officially BACK in EPCOT! Glowing sidewalks The new version is a little bit different than the lights you remember from several years ago. Previously, they were little sparks like this… Lights | 2019 …but now they’re more like glowing lines on the ground! Glowing sidewalks We first heard that these glowing sidewalks would be appearing in World Celebration over a year ago, and we couldn’t wait to check them out. Now that the World Celebration Gardens are finally open and it’s gotten dark enough outside, we can see them! EPCOT’s NEW Glowing Sidwalks When it was first announced that the glowing sidewalks would return, an EPCOT Imagineer shared that the lighting fixtures would incorporate updated technology and “controllability to deliver some fun new lighting capabilities.” Cool new lights Part of those new “capabilities” is that the lights coordinate with the lights on Spaceship Earth! 13. If you’ve ever been to Disney World, then you know that there are LOTS of places to shop! EPCOT It’s a common joke that theme park rides typically end in a gift shop, and because of that, you’ll find stores ALL OVER the parks with merchandise themed to rides, characters, movies, hotels, and more. But if you’re looking for merchandise for one specific character, we’ve got a great recommendation for you! Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a new walkthrough attraction that opened in EPCOT’s World Nature in mid-October. It’s entirely outdoors, so it doesn’t really get its own gift shop…but Disney came up with a solution! Journey of Water Instead of a full-blown store, there’s a Moana-themed merchandise kiosk near the attraction! You’ll find this kiosk to the right of Spaceship Earth as you’re walking back toward Journey of Water. The kiosk The kiosk was completed around the same time that Journey of Water was, but its hours have been completely unpredictable since. We’ve been trying to catch it operating for weeks now! Today, when World Celebration opened, we FINALLY noticed the kiosk open during the daytime and selling plenty of themed merch. Moana merchandise! The stand is covered in Moana dolls, plushes, clothing, towels, toys, and more. There’s a wide selection of movie-inspired merch. And then one side of the kiosk even has a few Minnie ears! This is a quick stop if you’re looking for a new pair. You can even get Minnie ears! If you’re hoping to snag some Moana souvenirs on your next trip, look out for this kiosk! We’ll keep an eye on any other additions in EPCOT, so stay tuned to DFB. Click Here to Do a Full Walkthrough of Journey of Water! 15. 2024 is quickly approaching, and that means a LOT is about to change in Disney World. Magic Kingdom Park Passes are going away for date-based tickets, all-day park hopping is returning as well as the Disney Dining Plan, and those are just in the month of January. If you’re staying at a Disney World Hotel in the first month of 2024, here’s a mistake you’ll want to try your hardest to avoid making. In January, Disney World’s Skyliner will be closed temporarily from January 16th through 21st in 2024. This means that if you’re staying at a Skyliner hotel, one of the biggest transportation draws will be unavailable during this time. Disney Skyliner It also means that to get to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios from a Skyliner resort, you’ll need to take a Disney bus instead, which is most people’s least favorite mode of transportation (and is often a lot more crowded). Skyliner station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Not only will it be harder to get to these parks, but if you’re looking to resort hop, or book a reservation at a Skyliner hotel, it’ll take a lot longer to get there. You’ll want to either take a Disney bus from your hotel to a park, and THEN to another hotel, or just take a rideshare to the hotel, which costs extra. Skyliner at Riviera Overall, the Skyliner closure will affect some travel time and plans around Disney World, but there are ways to get around it. You just need to know about it ahead of time so you can have those plans in place before your trip begins! We’re always here to bring you the latest Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB! 16. A lot is happening in Disney World. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort We’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of not one, but TWO, new restaurants at Disney Springs. The EPCOT transformation is scheduled to be over soon. A NEW ride is being constructed in Magic Kingdom. PLUS Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is getting a brand new structure for new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas. So let’s take a look at what those villas look like now. Now, the main construction of the DVC building doesn’t look a lot different from the last time we checked in. We can say, though, we’re still surprised at how this building continues to expand — it’s way bigger than we initially imagined. It just keeps expanding These rooms are also super close to Seven Seas Lagoon, so we’re assuming they’re going to have some AMAZING views, including views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. Views are going to be great We did notice that most of the rooms are now completely enclosed and now have sliding glass doors that have been installed. Rooms are mostly enclosed We also noticed that work seems to be starting on enclosing rooms on the first level of the building. Work starting on bottom level Overall, the building is really starting to take shape and look like something now. We remember when this was just a site filled with dirt. Work on the new building The structure has a total of 10 floors that we can see so far. DVC building Disney has not yet started putting some of the cosmetic touches on the building, but we expect we might start seeing that soon. As a refresher, here’s what it’s supposed to look like when it’s complete. It’s inspired by what early concepts of the Polynesian Village Resort looked like. ©Disney The new villas won’t just have new rooms, though: it will also feature new recreation and dining options (okay, we’re SO curious about the dining). We’ll be keeping an eye on the site and keep you updated on how it’s going. The new DVC villas are expected to open some time in 2024. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 22. World Celebration Gardens have officially opened in EPCOT! World Celebration Gardens Here you can step into a serene city park-like area with beautiful green spaces and detailed planters. There are park benches, tables, and most importantly LOTS of charging stations. It nearly feels like you have left a theme park and entered a relaxing garden– which is very close to Walt’s original dream for EPCOT. But there are a few big hints that remind you that you are, in fact, still in a Disney park. The new gardens are separated into different sections or areas, each with a different theme. One area is Dreamers Point, where you will find the statue of Walt, ‘Walt the Dreamer’. The new gardens and statue debuted on Walt’s birthday and we noticed that it was a VERY popular attraction (though not the only one in the gardens– keep reading to see more!). It’s no surprise to us that people were lined up, waiting, to see and visit this new tribute. ‘Walt the Dreamer’ On opening day, we saw the line for the new statue (which you can sit by to get memorable pictures with) reach up to 45-50 minutes! There were tons of people waiting for their chance with Walt. Line for ‘Walt the Dreamer’ But the new statue wasn’t the only thing you could wait in line to visit in the new gardens. Two characters were spotted there, too! Daisy and Pluto were hanging out there with people and doing meet-and-greets. Hi, Pluto! Daisy had a traditional meet and greet in the gardens, while Pluto could also be seen roaming around when there wasn’t a line. It’s Daisy! There are different parts of the gardens that we had thought would be perfect to meet characters at, and it turns out Disney was a step ahead of us! It’s cool seeing them here, where you might normally go to take a break and charge your phone. Pluto was out roaming! According to the Disney World app, Daisy could be seen there many times throughout the day. So you have a really good chance of meeting her and Pluto! ©Disney Even though the gardens are a place to find peace and feel like you’ve left the park, there is still Disney magic present with these fun additions.
